Neil Young Announces “Dreamin’ Man” Live LP Due in November

9/1/09, 4:51 pm EST

Three months after the quiet release of Archives Volume One Neil Young has announced his next archival release: Dreamin’ Man, a complete live performance of Harvest Moon drawn from various solo acoustic gigs in 1992. The disc is labeled Neil Young Archive Performance Series #12 and is due in stores November 2nd. Before the release of the first box set Young released three late 1960s/early 1970s concert discs that later appeared in the package. It’s unclear why he’s jumping forward to number twelve for the next release. Might box set three or four be the next set slated for release? Young never explicitly said the box sets would come out in sequential order, though that would be an odd move – even for him.

Besides Dreamin’ Man, Young’s schedule is pretty open. On September 12th he’s playing a benefit concert for the Sarah McLachlan foundation in Vancouver with Sheryl Crow and McLachlan. Two days later Neil Young Trunk Show – a Jonathan Demme directed documentary of a 2007 Philadelphia concert – premiers at the Toronto Film Festival. In October he’s performing at the annual Farm Aid and Bridge School Benefit concerts, but beyond that his plans are unknown. He hasn’t played a single gig with Crazy Horse since March of 2004 – the longest break he’s ever had from the garage band since they teamed up in 1968. Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina’s unexplained departure midway through Young’s 2008 tour may not bode well for future projects, but hopefully Neil’s going to let the horse out of the barn again soon. The world needs it.

Time Fades Away is great, Rob you’re a damn fool. Yonder Stands the Sinner is brilliant.

Angus rohan | 9/4/2009, 5:29 am EST

I love Neil, but I think we may be in danger of Neil Young overload. Doesn’t the guy ever take a break? Perhaps after his aneuryism scare his fear of death has escalated and he may think he has to get everything out before it’s too late. Still, too much Neil young is far better than none.

??? | 9/4/2009, 8:17 am EST

crap cover art

Bomber | 9/4/2009, 8:22 am EST

is there really any need to worry about OVERLOAD at this point?
It’s like having all 15 seasons of the Simpsons on DVD.
Watch and listen at your liesure.
(and go for walks)

Thierry | 9/4/2009, 1:20 pm EST

An hello from FRANCE.

Downhill | 9/4/2009, 2:18 pm EST

Well, you got it Rolling Stone, the world needs the Horse. tHE Horse is old but still able to cross the Death Valley.

Jess Hansen. | 9/4/2009, 2:46 pm EST

We ***NEED** the Horse – Crazy, sane, or anywhere in between !

gerardo erak | 9/4/2009, 8:54 pm EST

Neil Young is along with Bob Dylan one of the best individual songwriters of the world.

Deb | 9/5/2009, 12:11 am EST

I wonderful way to remember that beautiful night at the Greek Theater with Ernesto.

mikey | 9/5/2009, 3:12 am EST

Harvest Moon is arguably Neil’s most underrated album, and the title song is one of his best since the 70’s.

Tim | 9/5/2009, 7:11 am EST

The Horse rules, best Neil’s band so far. I pray for a comeback.

I'm Gandhi Dammit | 9/5/2009, 5:33 pm EST

Neil and Crazy Horse make for one of the best live acts of all time, something magical happens when those fat old men get on stage

leo | 9/6/2009, 5:36 am EST

Neil please ride the horse again!!

Doug | 9/7/2009, 4:18 am EST

Yeahh we want to smell the HORSE !

PJD | 9/7/2009, 6:14 am EST

Neil..how about a live “On The Beach”!! Now THAT is an overlooked classic!

Bobby Badboy | 9/7/2009, 3:04 pm EST

I hope he comes to his senses and rediscovers the Force of the Horse. I hate hearing his current band – all great players, acknowledged – stumble their way through NY&CH classics. Reminds me of when I saw John Fogarty with a slick LA studio-whiz band that just pummeled their way thru all those CCR classics; Kenny Aronof’s power-drumming was especially obnoxious.

Frank from MusicNerdClub.com | 9/7/2009, 10:27 pm EST

Don’t get me wrong, I love Neil Young playing acoustic – that’s how I first got interested in his music. But if every album of his going forward would be with Crazy Horse and until the end simply recorded variations of “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” and “Ragged Glory”, the world would truly be a better place.

imatiger3511 | 9/8/2009, 10:48 am EST

Neil is the greatest! W/ the horse or the stray gators would be lovely. Maybe all the walkers get in the way.

Mojoryder | 9/8/2009, 11:26 am EST

SPOOK THE HORSE!!!

Boyda | 9/8/2009, 5:21 pm EST

I love Neil. His music and the fact that after 40+ years making music, he still keeps us guessing not only what he will do next but what the significance (if any) of the strange numbering of his releases is.

John | 9/9/2009, 1:48 am EST

I can’t help feeling like Neil is milking the cash cow, at least on his web site, pushing all the BLUE RAY product, auspiciously posing as ‘archive’ “select” material. Seems to me, if I were as rich as he were, I’d put all the extra kitch into his web site for free, or at least send PC/MAC equivalents for those who are die hard enough to get the cash to buy his growing CD “package”. One day, we’re going to see all this in re-mastered form, along with video games…he never said “Don’t milk the hor$e!!!”

davy mac | 9/10/2009, 5:24 am EST

come on neil ride the horse

ColonelBlood | 9/10/2009, 10:53 pm EST

Don’t be so dismissive. As many people saw at Glastonbury – Neil is not, by any stretch of the imagination, ‘on his way out’. I think Neil realises that his releases such as this are marketed at more devoted fans, rather than the mass-market.

Bomber | 9/11/2009, 8:44 am EST

Time to let the Horse out of the barn!

Shahrukh | 9/13/2009, 3:25 pm EST

A live ‘On the beach’…it’s neil’s best album..and he’s hardly ever played any of the songs off it live…

art cover lover | 9/22/2009, 7:36 pm EST

this cover is awful….where’s Mazzeo when we need him ??? Nobody visulizes Neil like Mazzeo….nobody even comes close! Zuma is one of the ten best album art of all time!!

mazz spazz | 9/22/2009, 7:42 pm EST

yer right mazzeo’s art ROCKS! He paints better music than most musician’s play! mazzeo never turns it down…his colors can wake the neighbors and scare the cat!

winterlong | 9/28/2009, 10:46 pm EST

I have all Neil’s albums on vinyl and can say with confidence that “Harvest Moon” is probably the best love song ever written. A “live” album of Hammersmith Apollo 2008.Now, that would be something!

evening_coconut | 10/15/2009, 5:21 pm EST

the harvest moon album was
disappointing in my eyes.
great songwriting bad production
even neil himself said he spent too
much time in the studio on it.
but i’ve the tour stuff.
the soundstage clips on youtube
the indelible solo acoustic
performance on snl.
it’s really intense stuff.
i look forward to it.

Jon H., Bozeman, Mt. | 10/15/2009, 10:21 pm EST

Every song is my favorite. Almost every song I’ve ever heard and I’ve heard it all.

Tom H | 10/22/2009, 11:45 pm EST

davesgarage | 11/6/2009, 8:30 pm EST
