No, none of us knew Kurt Cobain, but given what he purported to stand for, this is simply disgusting. I am not sure he would have even signed off on something that was as reverent as Rock Band was to the Beatles (i.e. having Kurt play only Nirvana songs in the manner he performed them), let alone allow for this mockery, but at least they could’ve been a bit more respectful about it all.

Kurt is not unique in this respect, any playable avatar in the game can be used to perform songs that their real-life counterparts wouldn’t even be caught dead humming. Guitar Hero just thinks it’s funny to turn rock stars into monkeys.

You know when you see something that is so horrifying it defies description? This is one of those things. I’ve always hated these games. Rock Band, Guitar Hero, whatever you want to call them. I will say this only once, MUSIC IS NOT A GAME! Music is an artform! And should be respected as one. I understand that some of these musicians are just trying to make a living because no one plays videos anymore and radio is particularly awful these days. I was a huge fan of Nirvana in the past and still listen to all of their albums today. Half of my ipod is full of bands from Seattle. I know exactly where I was when the news broke that he killed himself and remember how it felt to hear that news

What people seem to forget is that In Utero was not well received and Kurt Cobain’s first drug OD was barely a blip on the radar at that point. When I saw the initial video of him in the game my first thought was “That’s pretty accurate”. While I wouldn’t want to put thoughts in the mans head (nor would I want his thoughts to be my own) having read his notebooks, I think he might get the joke. And besideds, why is this any bigger deal than Jimi Hendrix appearing in a previous version of a game? Is it because none of you were alive when Jimi died and you are all making a mountain out of a molehill or because anything that Courtney Love does to make money is going to elicit this kind of (highly warranted) response.

I just died a little inside. And for those of you who don’t understand irony and sarcasm, you didn’t truly understand Nirvana.

Rock and roll has always been about selling out. The Beatles sold out from day 1! I wish I had a KC lunchbox!

While killing yourself is no reason to dodge the future – the one reason I believe Cobain did so was he knew he couldn’t keep up the quality of his work or stay on top w/o selling out. In Utero was delayed for over a year because it didn’t have a ‘commercial’ sound and he made a point of never selling out by doing unknown covers of bands that never got enough credit during Unplugged. I don’t know who owns the pin to Cobains’ likeness or who allowed this but it truly was spitting in Kurt’s face. This was one of his biggest fears and it’s come true. Making musing and selling it to fans isn’t ’selling out’ – Selling Out is when you do whatever goes against your grain to make a dollar or appease someone. Kurt never did that and this is just unreal – I’m glad I never bought any of these games.

In part, I’m a huge Doors fan and they made a pact to never sell their songs and they’ve held strong to that even when they could’ve made MILLIONS – nor have they sold Jim’s likeness in a cheesy manner.

It’s pretty obvious to fans and the other two band members that Nirvana and Kurt Cobain would not participate in something like this. Yes, the 90’s are over…and this is just one more example of the hell that the future has in store. I’m so glad I grew up in the ’90s and at least I can say at I had good music.
