A day after 36-year-old Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM, was found dead in his New York apartment, frequent collaborator Travis Barker of Blink-182 paid tribute to his fallen friend on Twitter and onstage. The pair performed together as TRV$DJAM and survived a Learjet crash last September that killed the flight’s four other passengers.

“Don’t know how i am gonna play 2night but i am for AM,” Barker tweeted this afternoon. “My brother is gone.i love u and miss u, i’ll never forget all the good times we had.” He later added, “I’ll never forget everything we’ve been thru and every time i play the drums i’ll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being” and “Rest In Peace my brother, this really fucks me up.”

At Blink’s Hartford, Connecticut concert tonight, Barker skipped his usual levitated drum solo during the encore, and the band hosted an onstage vigil for AM. “We lost a really dear friend yesterday,” a tearful Mark Hoppus said from the stage. “He was an innovator and he was a genius and he loved music more than any other person on this planet, and above all, he was an amazing friend. We’re doing the best we can to get through tonight, but right now I’d like to take down the lights and have a moment of silence for our friend Adam.” (See a clip from the show, below.)

As Rolling Stone reported, DJ AM was found face down and shirtless on the bed in his lower Manhattan apartment yesterday afternoon when friends called authorities because they hadn’t heard from him in several days. There was no sign of foul play, but a crack pipe and prescription drugs were found in the apartment. An initial autopsy has proved inconclusive, the AP reports, and law enforcement sources say it will take weeks for toxicology reports to determine Goldstein’s cause of death.

Look back at more musicians lost before their time.

In addition to Barker’s heartfelt notes, stars including Diddy, John Mayer, ?uestlove and Paris Hilton headed to Twitter to remember AM, who was well known for handling the turntables at celebrity hotspots and high-profile events. Mandy Moore, who dated Goldstein several years ago, released a statement Sunday that reads, “I am absolutely heartbroken. For those of us lucky enough to have known him, Adam radiated a contagious exuberance for life and also personified the very definition of a true friend. To say that he will be missed beyond words is an understatement. My heart goes out to his loved ones.”

I was at the show (Hartford) I couldnt believe just how amazing Travis is as a drummer – Ive seen _many_ shows and many artists but he blew me away – if it was for DJ AM – he is right by him.

This made me cry, something I hardly ever do. Although I was never blessed enough to know him.I hurt for Travis BAD I have been there, but don’t talk about it. My heart breaks for his famuly, he left such a legacy for being so young. Your at peace now…just too soon.

i was at the show and it was the first serious blink moment i’ve ever seen on stage. I’ve been a huge travis fan since 1999 and i can’t believe all he’s been through. His mom died when he was a kid, he’s been divorced twice, he was in a plane crash and his best friend died, now this… hes so strong. just shows you how one person’s life affects so many others.

I’m going to their show wednesday in Ohio. Looking forward to a tribute for AM. Oh, and WEEZER!!

I understand a friend died, but why does rolling stone link this story to other musicians that died young? A dj isn’t a musician.
