People don’t understand drug addictions and mental afflictions until they undergo them themselves. A strong person can be brought to their knees by either of those things. A drug addiction is a lifetime addiction, depression is not something you CHOOSE in any form, and being in a horrific plane crash is something nobody would wish on another.

If he did indeed die as a result of his addiction, or state of mind, how in the world is that cause to ridicule him? I don’t defend drug usage at all, but I can only imagine the stress he has had in his life and how the last year affected him.

I wish, if he indeed turned back to drugs in the end, that someone had been able to reach out to him. He seemed like a nice person, just trying to do what he loved. I greatly hope that he is now at peace.

I was an amateur DJ for about six years till that monday night i went to see grand master am @ club sutra. The next day i bought myself two turntables & discovered my true passion in life. Thank you Grand Master AM for everything that you did for me. RIP

I’m SURE it was opiates, not crack. In my educated opinion, painkillers and heroin were his addiction from the get-go; and I’m sure that he had to be on plenty of them (prescribed by Dr.’s) after that plane crash…just to help him recover. It was a astronomically horrific crash for him (OR ANYONE!)to live through, and the strong pain meds would not be out of the norm as far as effective treatment and healing go. What I think is that he couldn’t handle it, and when the time came for them to try and cut back or ween him off those drugs…it was too late. He was most likely already re-hooked and maybe even shooting heroin to compensate. I do not know how this could be gotten around in this circumstance; how the Dr.s treatig him for his crash injuries could have effectively treated him without using the opiates…and I’m sure his addiction was not their primary concern anyway. It’s just really sad…and the fact of the matter is that when I read the People magazine article at the beginning of the year..you know..bout how well he was doing after the accident…I did think to myself “I’m sure he’s taking an awful lot of painkillers, and that could be Kryptonite to a former addict.” I just feel for is friends and family so much. This is horrible!

As an example he is one person, but closer to home we’ve all lost someone and some of us get mad when we do. Others morn and move on, a few change their lives, but we’re all affected by death. Our reaction is varied. I think for the most part people here acknowledge his death, but we tend to relate it to something more personal in our lives. Losing someone to drugs pisses us all off, cause it’s a life wasted as we see it. Be better to get high off love, but that takes forgiveness-not much here even less in the world.

all i really knew of him was what i read in the glamour article and it had a great impact on me. he’s not a hypocrite, someone whose been through it would know most how bad it is. his relapse may have only been just one time for all anybody knows. i feel bad about his death he seemed like a decent guy trying to fight addiction and trying to help other people fight too. my sympathies to those who knew him. it’s a shame.

I had never heard of DJ AM until his death, but he was a human being, and deserves respect no matter what the circumstances were surrounding his death. None of us are perfect, we are all addicted to something; drugs, cigarettes, food, being in shape, etc. which all causes dyer effects on our physical and psychological well being. I am not condoning drug use, but everyone make mistakes and everyone has different coping skills. For all of you saying that he was given a second chance and surviving death the first time should have deterred drug use; You are very wrong! You see I am a psychology student, and there is this thing called adaptation in which we learn to deal, or destress, life events and challenges, good and bad. Now imagine waking up every night watching people dying around you and thinking to yourself why am I here? and carrying that guilt on a daily basis. DJ am inspired many with is talent/music. He was amazing!! It is so sad to see the end of his chapter, but that is the reality- He struggled daily with something that a lot of people have no idea about. He reached a low point in his life and dealt with it the only way he felt he knew how. Don’t be quick to judge- you’ve never walked a day in his shoes. I was heartbroken last night while watching Gone Too Far and heartbroken again after reading some of the ignorant, hateful comments on this sight. I’ve had many friends and family members succumb to addiction – alcohol, drugs, etc. Addiction has nothing to do with willpower – it is a disease. My prayers and sympathy go out to Adam’s family and friends. He has kept me sober another day. Thank you.

I never knew him until I watched the program the other night on tv. He helped the girl with her addiction. May he rest in peace. My prayers are with his family. He was truly a hero. It is very unfortunate that he died. But this too should be a lesson to all of us that we need to daily work on those things that caused us to become addicted in the first place. I truly am inspired by his life and the difference he made and i will never forget him nor the lesson in this situation.

honestly i have never heard his music or anything before. i just got introduced to that tv show on mtv. this is a good show to watch. i had a friend who was addicted to drugs and my family and everyone tried to help him. unfortunetly he ended up getting in trouble while using and lost alot of his friends in the act, my blessings and prayers go out dj am. i wouldnt know how to deal with a death like that. how terrible and sad.. im so sad this happened. i do agree that there is a majior drug problem in some of these big busy cities. so sad…

On September 29, 2009, the New York medical examiner determined that Goldstein’s death was an accident caused by “acute intoxication” from a combination of cocaine and prescription drugs. He died from a combination of cocaine, Oxycodone, Vicodin, Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, Benadryl and Levamisole (a drug used to cut cocaine). Who needs all that?

MTV needs to stop airing, “Gone Too Far”. It’s now the epitome of hypocrisy. The show has lost all credibility, which unfortunately includes DJ AM’s credibility. Worst of all, it portrays addiction as an impossible recovery. It would have been different if DJ AM humbled himself enough to disclose his current struggles on the show, but he portrayed himself as a recovered addict, who has BTDT, and has learned how deadly a continued addiction could have on his life. Get the show off the air.

Its a terrible thing that happened to Dj A.M. Regaurdless of the reasoning behind his death he is still a person just like you and me. People will bash him by saying he had another chance at life and still chose to go back to drugs. If those people knew anything about drugs and the addictions formed when using them, they would know.. he didnt Choose to go back to them. I think the show Gone To Far is proof of that. By trying to keep people away from that life style Adam was a gaurdian angel to many people. He was their back bone and life support that so many of them needed. But while hes out helping other people, who, and were the people helping him? Please dont sit there and talk about something you know nothing about. If you knew, youd understand that the last choices he made in his life were choices forced on him by a heartless addiction that takes away any sense of right and wrong. The only hope I have is that hes in a place where he can escape all the hardships and pressures he faced in everyday life. I hope hes happy and can finally go on free of the devil that is narcotics. You know to be honest. I heard about the plane crash incident but I never really knew or have heard of him before. What I will say that anything that is addicting is a problem that from drugs to porn. We all have an addiction to something. Whether it is Drugs , Food, too much TV, Clubbin or Porn! Some may consider your habits to be less addictive than drugs but in reality too much of anything is lethal or bad your your health!

I am not going to curse the ones that curse him because everyone has their day to state their purpose in life in front of God! That’s if you believe in God!

I have heard of this TV show called Gone Too Far. In watching it he made a difference in someones life. So probably after he had escape death maybe once or twice he realized that he must make a difference in this world like all of us should and will one day before it all ends.

With all that being said I can admire a man of his caliber and passion for another persons life. Whether he was an addict or not. That is not for me to say because I know that I am not perfect with all my being. I truly would hate for me to be judged by no one other than my creator!

How many of us with just a little bit of money can make a difference in 1 person life a day or maybe even in a lifetime?

Anyone that can make a difference in someones life can be considered a hero.

drug addiction isn’t a joke and often not a choice…I’ve had everything in the world… am a beautiful girl…very popular.. determined…college student at a top university…and decided to try drugs…hard drugs at that trying to live this amazing glamorous life of clubbing..and addiction took over my life. It wasn’t planned or something I wanted…don’t judge addicts if you aren’t one…bc you will never understand…i use to make fun of them too and thought they were wastes of space…now I know I don’t deserve too.

First off, Shamil, you don’t know sh!t about me…FAAAAR from right wing…FAAAAR from being some type of conservative psychotherapist. I’ve just been through a lot of shit and I tend to respect all life. People make choices and mistakes.I’m young and free, and love my freedom of speech too.But i can point out that people mightgrow up one day and decide that talking shit about someone who died (no matter what the cause of death might’ve been)just might be kind of screwed up.Funny thing is being that AM was trying to get kids off drugs so apparently he didn’t think drugs was the best thing ever, he himself was just an addict who couldn’t stay away either. He might of gotten a kick out of getting high (because it feels like a relief to addicts), but the after effects was obviously hard to deal with
(he himself has said that). And you definitely can’t tell me sh!t about addiction bc I have a father who has been addicted to every fuck!n thing you can name, he’s been recovering for the past few years, and my boyfriends a chronic alchoholic. I’ve dealth with this sh!t my whole life.

It’s a sad thing when anyone dies and he deserves some respect. he was a talented young man who had everything in front of him. I watched gone too far 11-12 and didnt even know who dj was but at the end when it said he had died i got online too see how and why… then i see all these bad comments and ppl talking shit. i was a meth addict for 5 years and then got off of it. have been clean for 4 years now and it is hard.. i hurt my arm 3 years ago and got prescribed pain pills.. it is another addiction all over again.. if you have never walked in this mans shoes you should not talk shit about him… RIP DJ. God bless you wherever you may be and your family i know they are hurting
