Best song to come out in years

Those clips on Amazon UK basically tell me this album is going to be epic!

The show last night was so hot! Much more like the old days. Come on Sept 20 get here so I can buy this album.

Based on the sound clips, I think I’m most excited for “Amongst the Waves”, “Gonna See My Friend” and “Force of Nature”.

agreed, show last night was sweet! they put together a great set. i wish the encores had been a little different but overall a good show. looking forward to getting my hands on ‘Backspacer’.

This album is gonna be too pop friendly to be the real pearl jam. It will be a lot worse than their last for sure!

what’s with the shit quality?

Not sure what it was, but Ed’s voice seemed off in Chicago last night. His rasp is becoming piercing. And this new video makes me queasy. I like it better when they wouldn’t do videos.

Dear Pearl Jam,

Where the hell was this album when you were signed to us? We thought we were very nice to you, and helped make you very rich men.

Now, as soon as you are free of us, you make a really accessible album full of solid rockers,hit single pop songs and strong ballads. Oh yeah, I almost forgot; the new video of yours that looks like the old Evenflo and Alive videos. Come on!!!!

yeah, Sony Music’s got to be doing really well for themselves, considering they’re whoring out rough clips of a dead guy practicing a performance like it’s their best new artist.

And during Pearl Jam’s tenure there, how many fads were pushed on as the next big rock thing (O.C. Ska, Rap Rock, Nu Metal) and how many of those gimmick acts are still around?

Oh I love this…. oh my goodness. played several times in a row, this stuff gets inside you. oh man i didn’t get tickets. it doesn’t seem as if there’s a bad song on the record.

The band is amazing and hasn’t put out a bad album yet…but this one seems to be their strongest effort this decade…can’t wait to see this video on VH1 jump start in the mornings!

I was excited about this album until I heard some of the music from it… Now I am no longer interested. I thought they were really making something memorable, but instead it just sounds like what they would have sounded like if they missed out on the whole “grunge” era. Who wants to hear Eddie channel his inner pop-star? Not this guy! I can’t wait for the new Alice in Chains record!!!

You did not make Pearl Jam rich men their music did that. There music also made you a lot of money (and with a complete catalogue re-issue in the pipeline not to mention a possible Pearl Jam Rock Band game their music is still making you money). Also Pearl Jam never made a bad record while they were on your label so what are you complaining about?

You guys are Dicks. I hope PJ record fantastic albums that get the recognition they deserve.

Not a fan of the Fixer but I do like the other stuff I’ve heard from this record. Particularly looking forward to Just Breathe.

I have been a fan of pearl jam almost half my life, but I am not digging this song. Eddie’s not the same, I can’t take any more of his political bullshit. I’m selling my LA tickets.

‘the fixer’ is simply one of the best pearl jam songs i’ve ever heard.

From what I’ve heard of the album so far, it’s pretty solid. I’ve got all their other studio work, and I know that I’ll most likely pick this one up as well, in due time.

To all you dickheads hating on Pearl Jam for making there music available to the masses again……grow the fuck up. And to those wishing they would make another 10……grow the fuck up. Have you been listening to rock radio since 1998? Its been shit bands trying to sound like Mr. Vedder circa 91-94. I’m a fan of all of PJ’s music. Some albums are better than others………..but from what ive heard from backspacer is better than anything they have done in a few albums time. Strongest record since Yield in my honest opinion.

Was disappointed with “Got Some”. But this song is the best rock song to come out in the last 4 years after The Killer’s “Somebody Told Me”. Easily my new fave PJ song right now. I’ll be blasting this in the gym!

I think it will be a good album but not great. It just sounds too middle of the road for me, after YIELD they kinda lost my attention. I am also looking forward to the new AIC, everything I heard from it is badass.

I thought PJ had always made music for the masses, I don’t think they have an indy bone in their bodies. Sure they have shunned labels and talked up the DIY ethics but every time they release an album it is always a major label deal with distribution.

PJ have changed, so have we. They still make not so good, good and great songs. Pj have been going on for quite some time now. Only bad bands try to make a new Ten. Why? It’s impossible. I saw PJ LIVE in Berlin august 15. It was awesome. They kick like hell! The new songs, the fixer and got some, worked GREAT (live)! I think the new record will be great. For those who are going to sell their tickets or don’t like this record, I couldn’t care less. For all the others; ENJOY!

The Fixer and Got Some are the best songs on this album.

If you were making an all-star album of greatest songs from each and every Pearl Jam album, those two songs would be the obvious representatives from Backspacer.

man they should just pack it in, they aren’t relevant anymore it’s sad. stone gossard wrote there hit album, all of a sudden eddie vedder has songwriting credits on there follow up, vs. too many egos, they should just let stone gossard write there next album and quit trying to be what they aren’t accomplished songwriters.

The rest of the songs were taken down off Amazon. Likely at the band’s request… looks like Amazon jumped the gun on putting them up.

Pearl Jam’s management pulled the plug on that. Then it started popping up like mushrooms in Youtube. Then they put the kabosh on those. I guess it was like the Northern Lights. If you were there when it was there….

Vocal melody is tight. Cool guitar part too, considerably more pop elements in their sound in this one…I like it though.

Part of being a great band is evolving, changing your sound, not being afraid to try something new. This is why Pearl Jam has endured the better part of 2 decades and will continue to endure. There is a brilliance in everyone of their albums. Cant wait for Backspacer.

The song is great, but am I the only person with 20/20 vision?

There is green-screen spill in almost every scene; the band members are perma-haloed by the lack of precision video work; and, various body parts are close to being amputated by sloppy matte cutting.

I’m hoping Cameron Crowe’s 8-yr old niece did this in iMovie one afternoon when Uncle Cam left his dailies lying around?

More likely, they sense potential looming backlash from their ’selling-out’ to Target, and this helps paint them as still the rebel, sticking it to the man?

Best…band….ever

I don’t own any Pearl Jam disks. I see them every chance I get. Why is this… urgency. This band is the realization of “urgency” live.

Wow.

I love how you lap dogs think that this song rocks. The truth that each of you know deep down in your deprived musical souls, is that PJ has been re-recording the same song in each album since “No Code” made the world yawn.

No more true words has been spoken since a reviewer lamented that Eddie never should’ve been given the gig for “Dead Man Walking.” While most who pursue side projects leave that style to that project, Eddie must’ve insisted that PJ was also going to be as mellow as a San Diego summer day.

As a result, and for well over a decade now, PJ has become an adult rock band –a slightly edgier version of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. The memories of when PJ used to really hum and were THE BAND of the 90’s are fading into the ether.

Pearl Jam sounds great!

If your a true PJ fan you cant judge studio work until they play it live.The best live band out there.Ive seen Springsteen and The Who at least 15 times each. The End is the best song ever written by eddy.Cant wait for Philly.
