Red Hot Chili Peppers Feel “Major Enthusiasm” Heading Into Studio

8/21/09, 2:23 pm EST

While the Red Hot Chili Peppers slumbered, the band’s members have been keeping busy these last couple of years, what with drummer Chad Smith joining all-star group Chickenfoot, frontman Anthony Kiedis developing a series for HBO and bassist Flea enrolling at USC to study music theory. But things are about to change in Pepperland. Smith recently told Billboard the band would reconvene in the studio this fall, and Keidis and Flea confirm to Rolling Stone they are indeed ready to rock again.

“We’ve decided to write some songs,” Kiedis told us at a benefit for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, the Los Angeles school Flea founded. “We imposed a two-year hiatus, which we felt we needed, then we went back to the roundtable and the decision was, ‘Let’s do this.’ “

There’s no timetable yet on a new album, their first since 2006’s double-platinum Stadium Arcadium, but Flea, for one, is anxious to get going. “After being kind of burnt at the end of our last tour, I feel major enthusiasm and vigor,” he said. “Not like a restlessness, but a really healthy excitement. I’m just into it and ready to go forward.” Offers Kiedis: “The seeds are being planted.”

Smith told Billboard that he and his bandmates “haven’t talked about” a potential producer, but joked that Rick Rubin, the guiding force behind the Chili’s last five albums, “always ends up being the guy.” Sure enough, Rubin made his presence known as a benefactor of the Conservatory and a guest at the August 15th fundraiser by wearing his trademark white T-shirt and jeans to the formal affair.

Will be nice to have the Peppers back again.

Who Cares | 8/21/2009, 2:44 pm EST

These guys haven’t made an album worth listening to since One Hot Minute…yea I said it. Sorry, but Stadium Arcadium was 2 cds of garbage that could have been reduced 1 disk. By The Way and Californication = meh. I wanna hear Kiedis rap! I wanna hear Flea slap the bass! I wanna hear the funk that was so prevalent on their earlier work. There pop sound of recent years is just awful!

Anonymous | 8/21/2009, 3:00 pm EST

Californication wasn’t bad.

By The Way kinda sucked.

Stadium Arcadium was too much, and would have been better as a focused single album, instead of a sprawling double album. But the good parts were good.

RHCP! | 8/21/2009, 3:26 pm EST

One Hot Minute was made while Kiedis was off on his drug binge, leaving it almost exclusively to Flea to write the album. If you want old-school One Hot Minute check out flea’s side work or solo stuff.

I can’t wait IMHO

Matt | 8/21/2009, 3:34 pm EST

Interesting there is no mention of John Frusciante in the recent articles.

Maybe I missed it.

rockdiva | 8/21/2009, 3:54 pm EST

i’ve sent ‘messages’ for BSSM2!

rockdiva | 8/21/2009, 3:55 pm EST

i’ve sent ‘vibes’ for BSSM2 !

“I wanna hear Kiedis rap! I wanna hear Flea slap the bass! I wanna hear the funk that was so prevalent on their earlier work. There pop sound of recent years is just awful!”

You obviously didnt pay attention to stadium aracadium then when you listened to it.

loutre | 8/21/2009, 4:19 pm EST

stadium arcadium was awesome, a masterpiece!!!!!! I can’t wait to hear new stuff

fixtheglitch | 8/21/2009, 4:20 pm EST

Kinda bummed that this probably means the end of Chad Smith’s involvement in Chickenfoot!

Bell | 8/21/2009, 4:46 pm EST

Chickenfoot is awesome. Rock like it’s supposed to be.

Chad should stay with a great band and leave a bumbling one behind.

Erik | 8/21/2009, 5:11 pm EST

CHICKENFOOT sucks. Sammy Hagar (as he always has) brings down the talents of others with mediocre lyrics and vocals. Why Chad played with him in the first place is a mystery…and hopefully he’ll be back playing with musicians that deserve him.

Gnarbys | 8/21/2009, 5:13 pm EST

Consistantly an amazing band that keeps getting better and better with age. No question, so happy to hear they are getting back to it. If you have not seen them live, you need to this tour.

One Good Disc | 8/21/2009, 5:14 pm EST

Here’s hoping that the Chilis avoid getting caught up in their press and album sales and make one, that is ONE, disc of good funky, rocking tunes.

Stadium Arcadium was too long, had too much filler, and was too clean and poppy sounding. The Chilis need to dirty up their production and songwriting a bit and get back to rocking out. Chilis made their cash, filled their arenas, sold a crap ton of albums – get back to making music that’s funky and rocking.

And whoever posted that Stadium Arcadium rocks as much as their earlier stuff is just a blind Chilis fan. Go back and listen to Mothers Milk and Blood Sugar, hell even Get On Top and I Like Dirt from Californication. Those kind of tunes are the very rare exception on Chilis’ albums now. Sadly.

KB | 8/21/2009, 5:40 pm EST

” “I wanna hear Kiedis rap! I wanna hear Flea slap the bass! I wanna hear the funk that was so prevalent on their earlier work. There pop sound of recent years is just awful!”

hang on. someone here claimed that AK did rap and Flea slapped the bass on Stadium… huh? what album were you listening to? the only thing that got slapped was their credibility as serious musicians on that rubbish double-disc-of-pop album

Mike Roffman | 8/21/2009, 5:44 pm EST

Sorry, but I’ll pass on more “funk”-ified stuff, guys. I want them to continue evolving and not treading back, like every fanatic wants them to do. We already had Freaky Styley, we don’t need another one.

I’m down for whatever, really. These guys are too solid to ever quit. Love ‘em.

Slappy McGee | 8/21/2009, 6:11 pm EST

I love all you people who constantly whine that RHCP have mellowed out too much and need to go back to the crazy ways of the early records. Do you really want guys in their 40s to try to sound like guys in their 20s? Really? Follow the Aerosmith/Rolling Stones model? That would be awesome!

The fact (sad for those that are stuck in the past) is that they’ve grown up, and their music has evolved as they have. Look at the great lyrics on the past few records. Sure, I love “Sex Rap” and “Love Trilogy” and “Sexy Mexican Maid” as much as the next guy, but I love “Road Trippin” and “Don’t Forget Me” and “Desecration Smile” as much, if not more, since I’ve grown up with the band and am where they are now more than where I was when I was 16.

Now, if you’re young and you really like the old records and wish they’d do more like that, I can understand, since that’s where you are and you haven’t lived yet. But if you’re 30+ and are sitting around crying and listening to Freakey Styley, then you need to move on and find another band that “rawks.”

I hear Limp Bizket have gotten back together…enjoy…

RWT | 8/21/2009, 6:27 pm EST

Peppers are awesome.
Chicken is great and obviously Chad agrees.
Chad will find a way to do both.

OSM | 8/21/2009, 7:01 pm EST

What’s with all the people who obsess over the past. Artists grow and are supposed to make music that doesn’t sound identical from song to song. If you want every song to be “Fight Like A Brave,” then why don’t you just put that song on repeat for the rest of your life and go live in a cave as a so-called “real RHCP fan.” If you really like a band, you should be willing to be open whatever direction they move in, not “anything new immediately =crap.” Also the latest album is not an artists “new sound” unless the follow-up is exactly like it, it’s just how those 10-30 songs sound in totality. Just saying, RHCP can’t make rock-equivolant James Brown songs forever (I’m sure twenty + years would certainly get boring enough without trying other things).

Anonymous | 8/21/2009, 7:11 pm EST

I love when bands go pop, everyone hates em just cause it’s pop…times are changing.

Plus RHCP will be getting inducted into the rock hall next year, so they should put out a great album like Metallica did last year.

BK | 8/21/2009, 7:52 pm EST

The only thing that really matters here is that John Fruciante has not quit the band.

Anonymous | 8/21/2009, 8:28 pm EST

why is Flea going to USC for Music Theory? Are you kidding me???

youknowho | 8/21/2009, 9:48 pm EST

To all of you who are delusional.
Go back and listen to Fruciante’s Guitar. Listen to the lyrics.
Stadium Arcadium was there there best album since Blood Sugar!
And even Red Hot Minute wasn’t even close to as bad as people make it.
You want bad music listen to 95% of Hip/Hop today. Rock is back in a big way! And Chili Peppers know how to rock!

Margaret Smith | 8/21/2009, 11:54 pm EST

Wow – people are soooo damn critical. How about just being happy that the Chilis are coming back. Of course they’re going to change; how boring if they didn’t. Go find another band if you’re not happy – what a bunch of miserable people!!!

the truth | 8/22/2009, 12:18 am EST

the chili peppers are the best band in the world. nothing more needs to be said.

mofo party | 8/22/2009, 12:24 am EST

AK should rap, he isn’t that great of a singer. Every band has one truly great cd–RHCP’s was Blood Sugar, anything else will be second best

Ms. V | 8/22/2009, 2:55 am EST

their funk rock is awesome, but their newer stuff is also awesome in a different way. it’s all amazing. I’m SO excited they’re back together doing what they (and we) love! quit yer bitching and go do something productive.

Nick | 8/22/2009, 3:06 am EST

After the release of Stadium Arcadium, Flea said “If you don’t like this album, you don’t like the chili peppers.”
I have to agree with him.
Songs like Storm in a Teacup, She’s Only 18, So Much I, Readymade all have that old chili peppers sound.
They’re still rad & I can’t wait for new stuff!

Anonymous | 8/22/2009, 6:35 am EST

Everything the Chili Pepper’s do is golden. Anyone who thinks different should give up the feeble criticism because it sounds ignorant.

Anonymous | 8/22/2009, 10:13 am EST

I can’t wait for their new album. There the most innovative group of our time.

Anonymous | 8/22/2009, 11:51 am EST

Obviously all of you haters have not heard some of the songs left off of Stadium Arcadium. If you want funk guitar, slap bass, and Kiedis rapping I would recommend listening to the I’ll be Your Domino. Funky as hell. I love all of their albums. Would you really want every album to sound the same. No. They are constantly evolving which is what a great rock band should do. They are our generations Rolling Stones. They will be around forever making great music.

Right Here!!! | 8/22/2009, 12:51 pm EST

RHCP can feel THIS as they head into the studio.

Mariah Linnemeyer | 8/22/2009, 2:49 pm EST

Um….all the music they do is awesome, whether funk or pop….obviously none of you guys are musicians, otherwise you’d be appreciating everything they do…

killtheindustry | 8/22/2009, 3:42 pm EST

These guys shoulda quit after Hillel died…. it’s never been the same… mostly just radio friendly slop… at least dump Frusciante and get a player who is not so brain damaged by drugs that he can actually play the old songs.

Flush | 8/22/2009, 5:29 pm EST

With them having major enthusiam, for sure we’ll get a classic record. If anyone can do that, it’s RHCP.

CJ | 8/22/2009, 6:27 pm EST

I Cannot wait until they lay somethin new down, they always deliver, whether you are a Hillel or Frusciante styled RHCP era listener, they both deliver something special, and I think Johnny is pickin up where Hillel left off. Honestly the 2 year hiatus may have been the best thing for the band because seeing them on tour, even though they were energized when they went out, people could kind of tell they were burnt out and needed a break (what band wouldn’t after a double disc lp and a world tour.) Can’t wait to hear what you guys have in store for your fans!

HuckleberySlim | 8/22/2009, 7:02 pm EST

Can’t wait for the new album! I hope they can get an album that sounds somewhere between californication and BSSM.

btw, anyone else notice that all the bad comments below were made by the same guy under different name? XD

Anonymous | 8/22/2009, 9:21 pm EST

Man, when SA was in the works, i was thinking “what more can they do?” then i heard it and was astonished. I can’t wait to hear what they have in stores for this round.

Buckleberry Ferry | 8/22/2009, 9:50 pm EST

Chili Peppers peaked with Blood Sugar Sex Magic and have been on the steady decline ever since.

Anonymous | 8/22/2009, 10:01 pm EST

Hey killtheindustry: Fruciante is the only reason the peppers are anything and still around. Any RHCP fan knows this.

whateveaaaaa | 8/22/2009, 11:46 pm EST

I need a RHCP concert fix..Need to know guys born in 1962 can still rock

nm1000 | 8/23/2009, 12:10 am EST

After all the work this band has done, it’s tough to say how their sound is going to come together. Growing up, in the age of the Uplift Mofo Party Plan, this band was built around an innovative approach to music. An approach similar to bands such as Rage Against the Machine or Sublime. Hopefully after two years, these guys can find themselves in their music, again.

redwings | 8/23/2009, 2:56 am EST

Saw these guys in vegas pre-SArcadium. They were amazing all of their stuff was amazing they were so alive it was the summer 05 show or whatever. Saw them in san diego right after SA and it was one of the worst shows I have ever been to, they just can’t rock it anymore. I honestly wish i would never have to say this, but they just aren’t the same anymore.

ScottCulverCity | 8/23/2009, 6:38 am EST

“redwings”, I was actually at that same Vegas summer 2005 concert, and I agree, it was as close to perfect as you can get. And I was also at that same San Diego 2006 show, and I agree, it was so bad I almost wish I wasn’t there. But the SD Sports Arena is universally known as one of the arenas with the worst sound anywere, so I’m am going to credit about 75% of the awfulness to the venue’s sound system. BUT…but, I saw them again at Coachella 2007, and they more than redeemed themselves with a near perfect and mesmorizing performance!! So don’t count them out yet, definitely see them live again and give them another shot. But DON’T EVER see another show at SD Sports Arena…or Irvine Amphitheatre!! I’ve seen hundreds of shows at every venue on the west coast with no problem, but those two venues are so bad they almost made me lose faith in live music. But I have a feeling the Chili Peppers aren’t leaving the game anytime soon!

. | 8/23/2009, 6:45 am EST

it’s just good to hear that guys are back. can’t wait for new stuffs. they’re always special. it’s something different about them, they’re not like the others, and that’s way i adore them.
GO chili!

ByTheWay | 8/23/2009, 11:37 am EST

I love these guys, probably my favorite band of all time. They’ve been making musical gold for 20+ years. Here’s to finally getting to see them on tour!

sdsd | 8/24/2009, 12:32 am EST

Man these guys are my fav have been for years i love them, they are one of the only remaining decent bands left and still making records from 20yrs ago…

Az | 8/24/2009, 9:19 am EST

Woo so excited to hear from you guys

E Diddy | 8/24/2009, 9:33 am EST

Pumped here. Just started listening to them a few years ago.

Rtunes | 8/24/2009, 9:45 am EST

This late into their career, these guys have made their three BEST albums – consecutively! I sure hope they make it four!

adam | 8/24/2009, 10:35 am EST

you can’t deny that rick rubin has really helped these guys develope into a timeless group. hopefully they work together again!

Fact | 8/24/2009, 11:09 am EST

Anon | 8/24/2009, 12:00 pm EST

“Since 1985, there has been no more overrated band than RHCP”

Are you kidding me? This is one of the most genuinely talented groups out there. Maybe have your ears checked

Growth | 8/24/2009, 12:05 pm EST

To all the people who grasp to the cliched “the band has grown and you haven’t,” eat shit. I’ve grown up with the Chili Peppers too. But not liking what they’ve “grown” into doesn’t mean I live in the past. Enjoy the “sprawling, epic” watered-down pop of Stadium Arcadium.

kwijibo | 8/24/2009, 12:12 pm EST

fact: you are an idiot.

Return of the Peppers | 8/24/2009, 12:41 pm EST

I can’t wait to here what they come up with! I just love how they dive into their work deeper every time and release some of the most spiritual, heartfelt music to the masses. Thank you RHCP! You’re the best!

misspink13 | 8/24/2009, 2:42 pm EST

I can’t wait for the return of the chili’s. Have spent the last 3 years waiting. Noone else compares !!!!!

Kliff | 8/24/2009, 5:30 pm EST

yea, i was pretty disappointed in SA but there were a few good songs on there. Frusciante is an over-indulgant hippy now. Hope they visit their Ramones influence for the next release.

artificialred | 8/24/2009, 5:32 pm EST

Stadium Arcadium was a very good album all the way around. Get off of their nuts.

Anonymous | 8/25/2009, 1:31 pm EST

hopefully the album will be better than stadium arcadium. The hope the album will incorporate alot more funk like in blood sugar sex magik.

Johnny | 8/25/2009, 3:54 pm EST

We want,new BSSM

Johnny | 8/25/2009, 3:56 pm EST

TWO HOT MINUTES-name of album :) ,with BSSM guitar, and lyric from Stadium Arcadium with chili stuf….

Johnny | 8/25/2009, 5:52 pm EST

Dirty guitar,slappppyyy bass,hard drums,chili lyric and great rap! :P .

leakeg | 8/25/2009, 9:10 pm EST

You fucking idiots are getting the FUNK confused with the PUNK. There were plenty of FUNK songs on SA, just as much as there was on BSSM, but they don’t have much PUNK influence these days like they did on the earlier records.

Troof | 8/25/2009, 10:37 pm EST

RHCP crossed the douche line ages ago.

Jess | 8/25/2009, 11:23 pm EST

Ok I don’t know what some of you people are talking about when you say the red hots aren’t good or are overrated and that john is the only one keeping them alive. have you ever actually listened to their music. their amazing. Every member of that band collaborates so well together in. chad’s drumming manages to keep up with fleas ridiculously amazing bass lines and john’s hendrix inspired guitar matches with anthony’s lyrics. even individually these guys are so unique there will never be another band out there like them. i can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Stadium Arcadium was awesome even though blood sugar will always be my favorite. Red Hot Chili Peppers, I love you guys, keep up the incredible work i’m sure i won’t be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!

Jess | 8/25/2009, 11:29 pm EST

p.s all of their albums are great….one hot minute was ok… but i might only be a sixteen year old girl but i have heard all of their albums since the time they started in 1983 with Out In La and yes they should bring back some of that hard core funk that they do but give them a break their gettin older, have families…. they matured, maybe some of you should too.

jayvin | 8/26/2009, 1:48 am EST

rhcp fucking wait to see you again!!!

matias | 8/27/2009, 4:26 pm EST

will be nice to have the BEST BAND EVER back again!

RHCP | 8/27/2009, 9:20 pm EST

Could not be more stoked for these guys to get back to doing what they do best! I’ll be looking forward to the new album/tour for sure!

as for all the negative douchebags out there…if you want BSSM…then listen to BSSM dumbass! If you dont like SA then dont listen to it…but you sure as shit should stop wasting ur time whining about how you want more blood sugar, cuz real chili peppers fans dont care (and i guarantee that the chili peppers dont either!)

OTOOLE31 | 8/28/2009, 12:34 am EST

cant wait have the best band in the world, back on the instruments, and jammin there cocks off, pumped to see what new things they come up with.

Dork Snort | 8/30/2009, 12:01 am EST

love the rhcp, but why is anthony always flat live?

* AngeL * | 8/30/2009, 3:55 pm EST

i’ve been waiting for this post for months. God bless the Chili’s-i cant wait for their new album- XD

Iam sick of reading all this comments that say ‘Stadium Arcadium is so boring.wtf?’,'Frusciante is no longer in the band.’and stuff.

Calm down people!the chilis are the chilis, they know what they are doing and if you dont like St.Arc.or By the way then dont listen to them!
And Flea said it you know!”if you dont like stadium arcadium then you are not a real fan.”So stop arguing about the past and the present-i repeat THE CHILI’S ARE THE CHILI’S.The EnD.

ps.I agree with ‘the truth’,Nick and ‘margaret smith’

thanx for reading!

readme | 9/5/2009, 6:56 pm EST

In time, all doubters will be silenced..

LaFlav | 9/6/2009, 11:41 pm EST

I hope they don’t incorporate lots of funk in their new album alternative is more their style now, plus they became famous without their funk

Yaz | 9/7/2009, 11:24 pm EST

I don’t see why everyone wants them to be restricted to one style of music- they can do some badass funk, alternative, pop, whatever they want and they own it. Frusciante’s creative abilities and embellishments are unprecedented by anyone! His love and passion for music is truly inspiring and exemplary.

SA was a fantastic album, I feel more and more in love with the combination of solos, rhythms, lyrics, and overall amazing harmonies.I personally loved Slow Cheetah, Strip My Mind, C’mon Girl, and a number of other songs from SA. I really don’t know how John makes that guitar sing, scream, bellow, cry, shout, and yell..its nothing short of fascinating every time he picks up the guitar. This is the best news I’ve heard since I was born!!

Gianco | 9/9/2009, 12:43 am EST

Great news…Los latinos esperamos con ansias su nuevo disco y una gira por aquí!!

M@r!a | 9/10/2009, 7:50 am EST

God, I’ve been waiting ages for this!!!
Finally, a new album!!!!
That’s the most awesome thing!
The CHILI’S are back!!!!
I totally agree with “AngeL” that whoever doesn’t like “By The Way” and “Stadium Arcadium” is not a real fan!!!
I adore them-all their albums,too- and I believe that the Chili’s are going to rock, once again!!!!!!

Didoniac | 9/10/2009, 12:01 pm EST

I have to agree with those people here saying the old funk-rocking albums like Blood Sugar Sex Magik or Mother’s Milk were better than their new albums… Still, we don’t know what they will come up with this time, so just let them create whatever music they feel like. Besides, Stadium Arcadium actually felt like a little step back to their old style, in comparison to By The Way or Californication, which were mostly pop and ballads.

I guess I’ll be happy with their next album anyway, regardless to what genre it is. It’s still the Peppers, one of the best rock bands of the last two-three decades, and as long as they sound good, I’d be happy to see them as the best band in the next decade too. (and they just can’t make bad music!)

Núria | 9/10/2009, 3:25 pm EST

Los esperamos con ansias en
Barcelona!
I need more chili peppers!
they are the best !
doesn’t matter that the songs
are funk or not they are great!

anonymous | 9/15/2009, 2:02 pm EST

so i say instead they have this thing coproduced by rick rubin and justice….justice is really liveing things up around the music industry these days

Clark | 9/16/2009, 6:00 am EST

As a long time fan (since i was 13, im 19 now) the chilis have never ceased to amaze me. Californication and By the Way singlehandly put a guitar in my hands and started my passion for music. I started with these two albums and went backwards and found out that each album is beautifully done and unique in its own way, which is a sign of a truly great band. Seen them live twice and both times were unreal. This band can literally do no wrong.

I have a feeling that this is going to be their best yet.

Thomas | 9/16/2009, 6:04 am EST

When my band writes, sometimes we draw our inspiration from “what the next chili album might sound like”

Heres hoping that they blow my ass away

rhcp fan | 9/20/2009, 12:36 am EST

YES! i have been waiting for years now for them to get back

C'mon | 9/20/2009, 2:12 am EST

The people here who diss the RHCPs for growing out of their funk style aren’t what I’d call “enlightened.” Besides, a band that sticks with just one style and one genre is better known as a “one trick dog,” which I don’t think the Peppers want to be labelled as. F*** the arseholes who are so narrow-minded that they’d rather have a one-trick-dog than a talented, flexible band.

RHCP aren’t afraid to branch out. Can’t wait for their next album!

Jenny | 9/21/2009, 8:41 pm EST

For Christ’s sake, STOP WHINING. Artists grow and mature. If you don’t like the music they’re making now, then GTFO and go find a different band to listen to.

AndriusLithuania | 9/22/2009, 1:42 pm EST

I am so fucking exited i am going to crash my room ;D Been waiting 2 years for this great new. This band inspired me to play. Even if their new album will be entirely electronic music ;D I will still apreciate it since they do it out of their harts. And I love their style anyway. Good Luck with new album!

tonehound | 9/22/2009, 4:49 pm EST

yes, chili’s rock. they branch out, they take chances, they play because they love it and all four musicians dominate the industry in their own unique way. what more could you ask for in a band? if they copied their old stuff they wouldn’t be the chili peppers. can’t wait to hear their new stuff even if the whole world hates it.

Anny | 9/22/2009, 5:49 pm EST

I LOVE By The Way! One of my aa time favourite albums. Also love John’s solo work, hope he will be on new album?

readme | 9/22/2009, 6:37 pm EST

Why do people use this page to say such negative things about a great band? Sure, your entitled to an opinion, but come on! The Chili’s have evolved in a way so unique. SA is a masterpiece, like all they’re other work… End of

righteouslywicked | 9/24/2009, 6:48 pm EST

I’m juiced! As long as they’re all passionate about what they do, good vibes are produced. Just like michael jordan won three championships, took a 2 year break, then won three more championships, so too will the chili peppers (californication, by the way, stadium arcaidium). of course, to say nothing of their earlier funkiness and well-rooted backgrounds that were present in their earlier albums and are still present in a more evolved energy in their recent work.

JimmyJazz | 9/24/2009, 9:23 pm EST

“CHICKENFOOT sucks. Sammy Hagar (as he always has) brings down the talents of others with mediocre lyrics and vocals. Why Chad played with him in the first place is a mystery…and hopefully he’ll be back playing with musicians that deserve him.”

I’d like to see you front a million dollar rock band.

you care? | 9/25/2009, 12:35 am EST

let the chili peppers do their thing. everybodys begging them to do something they’ve already done, yet what this band prides themselves on is constantly changing and producing new things…face it. they were younger in the bloodsugar days. they were under an ENTIRELY different set of circumstances. each of their albums have had a different energy behind it. some more subdued, some funky, some fun, some weird, some in between. I agree that the pop stuff needs to be toned down, but let’s be honest. 90% of their songs – from bloodsugar to now – can be “released” as singles and would probably do very well. sometimes pop can also be synonymous with the fact that its such a good song that it appeals to an enormous range of people. I think what we need to hope for is for them not to get generic, which I think is pretty easy math that they won’t be. they’re coming off of 2 years of rest after some exhausting shit, and they’re all enthusiastic to produce new music. reminds me a little of californication’s background, except without the drama of john’s return.

A Fan | 9/25/2009, 3:54 pm EST

I’m excited for the guys to get back together. I’ve been a fan since Uplift came out when I was 13. Since then I’ve always anticipated and waited for new stuff from them. I love the way they’ve evolved and I love where they came from. Hopefully they’ll continue to make music as long as they like.

A Fan | 9/25/2009, 3:57 pm EST

If good music becomes popular people don’t like it. I like it when good music becomes popular, it changes what ‘Pop’ music is. There’s nothing wrong with people making orginal music that becomes popular. These guys aren’t Britney Spears, they’re true to their craft.

Rob | 9/27/2009, 1:31 pm EST

Bring the fucking funk!

Pantomine | 9/29/2009, 8:00 pm EST

something has to change so that everything remains exactly as it was before: this is exactly what I expect of RHCP. On my iPhone or at home, on the way to the beach or going for a late dinner with friends, always have their tunes playing. But I find myself listening to One Hot Minute and beyond rather than the older stuff. OK, getting old, but wiser…and most new bands out there can´t do much better than copying Black Sabbath, Talking Heads, RHCP and Faith No More/Mr. Bungle, or even Butthole Surfers. Let´s hope for inspiration and raw sounds…

zook | 10/1/2009, 2:48 pm EST

where is john in all of this,,,?

Jaquelyn.:) | 10/4/2009, 8:21 pm EST

Okay really. Stop crying and be happy that there making new music and that there still inspired to make music for us to listen to..

I’m only 15 and I understand that there music has had a huge impact on musical history.

So all you complainers just shut it and get pumped for there next album!

Omar | 10/6/2009, 11:40 pm EST

I’ve been listening to them since 84 and One Hot Minute should have been called one hot turd…Dave N is great for Janes, dont work for the Peppers…now, fuck tards they’ve grown and their music has changed.. it isnt all the flea beating the shit out his base anymore, One Hot Minute, you have to fucking be kidding me… anyway you no like get the fuck out…

samuel | 10/7/2009, 4:28 pm EST

screw whoever says rhcp aren’t a good band their one of the best bands in the world and every single has been amazing.cant wait for October 12 when they go back to the studio

gillian | 10/12/2009, 6:10 am EST

the chili peppers get more incredible and more passionate about music with every album that they make. i have been waiting two years for their comeback and i know that these boys will do their next album like they have done all of their albums… even better than the last.
i feel like anyone who wants more of the old stuff… go get their old records and rock out to that… people change.. and grow up.. and the peppers’ music is growing with them in a wicked awesome way!

joe | 10/13/2009, 7:55 am EST

i love how people go all stroppy when someone says SA was a good album.

i for one thought it was quality, whoever thinks that makes me ‘less’ of a fan can fuck right off because i have worshipped their music for years.

theyve grown older, dont know if you realise but its been 18 years since Blood Sugar. hearing AK sing a modern day sir psycho sexy would just be fucking creepy.

jonny | 10/13/2009, 9:03 am EST

so say that one hot minute is the best rhcp album is to mark your forehead with a large “L sticker”. no JF = loss of soul , SA was a crap album and i think they know it themselves and makin videos with chris rock ..that just made me so sad..

Nostalgic Morons | 10/13/2009, 4:23 pm EST

You people obviously arent artists, because if you were you would know that over time, art grows and changes, just like the chili’s have. If you dont like the new stuff, dont listen, and dont expect them to do the same ol, same ol for you clowns either. And P.S.: John Frusciante is one of the best musicians on the planet! Who else do you know that put out 6 records in 6 months? You undeserving bastards!

REALLY?! | 10/13/2009, 6:29 pm EST

Stadium Arcadium has lots of funk-rock in it! Tell Me Baby, I’ll Be Your Domino (b-side) and Storm In A Teacup. ALL GREAT FUNKY/ROCKY TUNES! 99% of the bands that do not evolve their style get really, REALLY boring and end up just burning out because they turn into old men who can’t let go of their breakthrough album. RHCP would be doing exactly that if they made BSSM2. Sure, I’d love to see elements of BSSM in their new album as much of the next guy, but I want to see something I’ve never seen before from them!

Stroma | 10/18/2009, 5:14 am EST

To “who cares”: What the F*** do you know about the peppers. They have gotten better and better from one hot min. to now. If you are really a Peppers fan then you wouldnt talk negatively about how they sound now. Their as you call it “Pop” sound has always been there it was just covered up by everything else. And that Bull Sh** about the 2 CDs of garbage… I wouldnt call you a RHCP fan if my life depended on it. All I can say to a low life like you is screw off.

Stroma | 10/18/2009, 5:16 am EST

I fully agree with you people that love the RHCPs! One of the best bands in the history of the world!!!
Period.

Clownbaby | 10/18/2009, 5:00 pm EST

I totally agree. I hate most pop music these days with a passion but if the chilis have moved into the realm of pop, then that’s just one band bringing actual music to a world full of dumb fucks who think t-pain and boys like girls are he greatest thing in the world.

I absolutely love the old school with hillel and Jack irons, and I don’t really like by the way and californication that much, but stadium arcadium blows my mind every time I listen to it. Modern rock at it’s finest. I’m sure hillel would be proud. And for all the people who say they want flea to start slapping and Anthony to start rapping again, and want another bssm, flea had basically stopped slapping completely by that album and AK wasn’t rapping near as much as previous albums. And if they had tried to keep regurgitating the same sounds every time they wrote new songs, blood sugar probably wouldn’t even exist as we know and love it.

The Dude Who listens to music | 10/19/2009, 12:20 am EST

okay guys, lets face it. We’ve all listened to their discography. We all love their music. Can’t we just trust them to make a great album?

now grant you they have had their slip ups (I really did not care for much of their debut album or “Pea”), but they are easily one of the greatest bands of today

Just have faith that they will produce a great album. wether its funky as “Stretch” or as mellow as “animal bar”, its all good.

Peppers fan | 10/19/2009, 6:45 pm EST

I can understand some fans wanting them to do music like they used too. However you need to be a little more open minded about their change of style. I only recently became a fan of them when I listened to stadium arcadium so maybe it could be said that I am biased in syaing that. However one thing I do know for sure is that Stadium Arcadium is not like any other type of music I have listened to. The album itself has a variety of different tunes ranging from `funky styled` instrumentals to some more lighter but stronger lyrical tunes. To me they are a genre all of their own and if what they wanted to do with their last album was to apeal to a larger population instead of just making music for the hard core rockers who like dirty and profane lyrics(which in listening to some earlier tunes they dont), than all the power to them.

RHCP FAN | 10/20/2009, 3:25 am EST

F*** you all, who say one of their albums suck…best band ever

what's important | 10/21/2009, 4:33 pm EST

i agree with BK the dude from the beginning. the only thing that is important is that frusciante is coming back

that and the chilis are going to be sweet lyrical sex to my ears agan

A Real RHCP fan | 10/21/2009, 7:02 pm EST

The RHCP have evolved from their young days and will hopefully continue to do so. They have been cranking out either good or great albums for two decades now. Let the run continue I say. Glad theyre bringing out a new one, god bless´em.

Anonymous | 10/21/2009, 10:08 pm EST

Rhcp as a band have been though alot and have lived and learn. Its only natural that Anthony writes on things reflecting his life in the current. It takes a wise ear and truly good taste to enjoy their new material. Their ability to write music that has a certain vibrant uniqueness to them in amazing.

toucan | 10/22/2009, 5:55 pm EST

what about john frusciante? anybody know the status on him rejoining the band?

Chicklettes | 10/23/2009, 12:18 am EST

Please let Frusciante be on this album!!!

Jackie Wragg | 10/23/2009, 5:35 am EST

Sounds to me like some people can’t accept than sometimes bands grow and devlop with age into something differant to what they were, the new music is different yes, but if you like the members of the band why not just appreciate that the new stuff isn’t for you… personally I think the more mature sound is far superior but i would never insult the band by saying they’re other stuff sucks!!! The lyrics to the new stuff are amazing … stadium arcadium had a very high proportion if songs i loved and i can’t wait till the Chili Peppers grace us with some more insightful lyrics and soulful guitar riffs from Mr Frusciante :o )

DONUTS | 10/26/2009, 8:26 pm EST

Best band ive eva seen pumped 4 there new album in 2010 so is ma m8 stefan

lloyd Wellington | 11/1/2009, 11:41 am EST

“Chickenfoot is awesome. Rock like it’s supposed to be.

Chad should stay with a great band and leave a bumbling one behind.”

RHCP bumbling?? wtf?? even though they sell out stadium after stadium.

cant wait for the new album

joanna | 11/1/2009, 6:29 pm EST

the red hot chili peppers are influental to most/all of the bands that came after them. They are the best without a doubt. No one can top them, seriously.

i cant wait for the new album! [:

B | 11/3/2009, 7:53 am EST

One Hot Minute is the worst RHCP album…ever. Keidis maybe was on a drug binge, but so was frusciante…and he did a properly.
This is why that album sucked – no frusciante. No Slovac, no frusiante – no chili peppers, IMO.
Lookin’ forward to hearing what come out this time – agree that Stadium was too much tho. By The Way was awesome, what are you…12?

Anonymous | 11/3/2009, 9:37 pm EST

all their albums are awesome, they have the best songs and their songs have real life meanings.
Red Hot Chili Peppers are an awesome band, no one can top them cause their too good. :)

Matt | 11/5/2009, 1:50 pm EST

I can’t wait to hear another masterpiece of an album by one of the most talented sets of musicians of our era.

Brittany | 11/6/2009, 12:21 am EST

I dont know what you guys are talking about.. Each and every CD may have been different but they were for a reason.. They cant make their shit sound the same on every cd. They have beautiful music and each word of every song they have ever made is crazed yet awesome. They have got funk and rock like no one around. They are definitely my favorite band and I cant wait to see what the hell they have come up with now

Brittany | 11/6/2009, 12:39 am EST

Plus why are you haters on this website any way? Do you seriously have nothing better to do than look at websites of bands you don’t even like?? Leave this page for the fucking fans!!!

Anonymous | 11/8/2009, 7:31 pm EST

no one cares what any of you think about the peppers.

Go do something to better yourself.

FUAT | 11/10/2009, 2:57 am EST

Stadium Arcadium was amazing, as was By The Way and Californication… I dont what that guy who said they sucked is on, but join rehab buddy cause you obviously dont have the best taste in music

Fenton | 11/13/2009, 6:39 pm EST

Jesus ???? Am i reading this right ?? One Hot Minute…NO-ONE can call that a chili pepper album. By The Way was a great album – SA not so great. Here’s hoping the chili’s produce the 11 track rock funk classic they set out to do last time. One Hot Minute??? give me a break.

braly | 11/17/2009, 11:40 am EST

WHOEVER knows nothing of the red hot chili peppers apparently. I guarantee they’re going to blow everyone outa of tha water soon.

braly | 11/17/2009, 11:43 am EST

Stadium Arcadium was sick just like all the other albums they produced. You guys dont know how to move on, cuz they cant make every album sound the same…

SMASH! | 11/18/2009, 5:05 pm EST

Okay, Stadium Rocked. Listen to “She’s Only 18″ and tell me it sucked? You can’t. And how about “Hump De Bump”? That song was awesome. Sure there isn’t as much rapping as the older stuff, and it’s not as fast, but to be fair, the Peppers are getting on in years. Just enjoy them while they’re here.

Also Chickenfoot… SUCKS.
