In just a few weeks, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Alison Iraheta will jam in final sessions for their fall debuts. But before the American Idol Season Eight greats hit the studio, they’re still rocking fans on the American Idols Live tour. Rolling Stone brought you a report from the show’s opening night and onstage photos — and in our new issue, Nicole Frehsée goes backstage for an intimate look at the Idols’ life on the road. Grab the issue for her full report, and check out exclusive behind-the-scenes shots of Lambert primping for his set and grabbing a van nap, plus Allen kicking back and prepping for his headlining slot. And after the jump, Allen shows off exactly what happens when he chugs energy drinks pre-show in a backstage video.

I am not a fan of this artist, but what a great shot by the photographer. Made me actually stop and read the article.

Appreciate RS’s continued support of Mr. Lambert and his rise to stardom. Can’t wait until his debut album in November.

Oh, and as “Nice Work” noted, Crothers photo of Adam looking in the mirror is, subject aside, an iconic shot. A great capture, leaving you to wonder if it was posed or candid. Either way, impressive photo!

Schultz | 8/21/2009, 2:13 pm EST

Are there any pictures of this guy when he is NOT looking in a mirror? I know musicians are narcissistic by nature, but this guy takes it to a whole new level!

db | 8/21/2009, 2:39 pm EST

Schultz, did you somehow miss ALL the other Adam photos?
Jellus.

The only thing more obnoxious than Adam Lambert, would be his fans.

Vicky | 8/21/2009, 3:34 pm EST

I couldn’t stop smiling when I watch Adam…so irresistable!!!

Trish | 8/21/2009, 3:39 pm EST

ADAM, stop touring & starting making music…I’m about to lose my mind waiting for your album!

Anonymous | 8/21/2009, 3:45 pm EST

Trish, it appears you’ve already lost your ability to think and construct grammar coherently.

@ Schultz: “Are there any pictures of this guy when he is NOT looking in a mirror? I know musicians are narcissistic by nature, but this guy takes it to a whole new level!”

Yeah, Kazillions! And BTW, Adam will be in front of the mirror at least 1 night per show for the remainder of the tour as he does his own hair and makeup. So, if the photographer and reporter choose to publish the pic of him while he’s preparing for the show, then I guess that’s the pic we will see.

Thank you RS for the great photo of Adam. He always looks so amazing. I took several pictures when he was performing -some of them came out so nice I framed them. My friend said it looked like someone painted him I agreed. Also, thanks for making his RS cover available as a poster. I just ordered it!!

Thank You RS for all the coverage on Adam Lambert. Lambert truly is a remarkable talent. His upcoming solo album is the talk of the music industry. I for one can’t wait to buy it. RS is so savy in their support for this gifted young man. Keep those articles and pics coming.

Lauren | 8/22/2009, 10:08 am EST

Never seen anyone has this type of hype & expectation as ADAM receives…you better bring it, boy!!!

JR Wolfe | 8/22/2009, 10:55 am EST

what ever happened to the pre-Idol recordings of Adam Lambert entitled “The Show Must Go On “? Ok,so thats a bit off topic ,but it was part of the ongoing press/hype Rolling Stone has given Lambert.

Kieran | 8/22/2009, 6:16 pm EST

Adam Lambert is a damn good live performer. I hope his energy translates onto his recordings. I look forward to hearing his new tracks. I’m sick of all whining that passes for rock these days (yeah, I’m talking about Daughtry and Nickelback).
