Lambert Adds Hitmaker Max Martin to List of Collaborators

8/17/09, 2:28 pm EST

Adam Lambert delivered some news about his November debut album via a giddy tweet this morning: “In NYC to record song with MAX MARTIN!!! Soo excited. This album is getting so great!!” Martin is the Swedish wunderkind responsible for Kelly Clarkson’s mammoth “Since U Been Gone,” Britney Spears’ “… Baby One More Time,” Pink’s “So What” and “I Kissed a Girl” by Lambert’s cape-wearing pal Katy Perry.

As Rolling Stone reported earlier this month, the American Idol runner-up has also locked down writing and/or recording sessions with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder (Kelly Clarkson, Beyoncé), Lady Gaga producer RedOne, Linda Perry, Greg Wells and Sam Sparro.

Go behind the scenes of Lambert’s RS cover shoot in exclusive photos.

Lambert told RS he completed a bunch of sessions before the American Idols Live tour launched in July, but the weeks following the tour’s end — it wraps mid-September — will be packed with work on his as-yet-untitled debut. “I got a lot of co-writing done, some great initial vocal material recorded, and just general collaborations with different producers.”

Check out photos of Lambert and the rest of Season Eight’s Top 10 on tour.

A “male” Kelly Clarkson!

I’m so bored already.

wow | 8/17/2009, 4:34 pm EST

I wonder if Max Martin wanted to work with Adam specifically, like RedOne did, or if this was something Adam’s people pursued. I don’t know how that stuff works.

In any case, this is awesome news! I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

sadiesam | 8/17/2009, 4:56 pm EST

YAY! | 8/17/2009, 6:40 pm EST

I didn’t say male, I said “male”. They are different indeed, which is why Adam should be using different producers and collaborators instead of the usual retreads that clog the Top 40.

Vicki | 8/17/2009, 6:51 pm EST

Thanks for continuing to report on this shooting star. Adam is going to be HUGE. Anybody think not? Just listen to his VOICE

tabitha | 8/17/2009, 7:27 pm EST

Angel | 8/17/2009, 8:38 pm EST

“YAY” What the f**** is wrong with you? Only someone with mental issues waste their time and energy seeking out articles about someone and then posting hateful comments. Get a life loser!

At least Adam is doing something positive with his life. His incredible talent is becoming known worldwide. His cd will be awesome, I can’t wait!

LizMarie | 8/17/2009, 8:49 pm EST

After seeing Adam’s mesmerizing performance in Tampa a few weeks ago (his improv during the Bowie set with the red whip and handcuffs thrown on stage was priceless–but still suitable given the number of tweens present), I can’t wait to hear his own lyrical artistry to complement his vocals. Note to fans-Aside from the excellent coverage in Rolling Stone, die-hard Adam Lambert followers should read the recent four part interview done by the LA times on line entitled “The Ultimate Interview”.

Punky | 8/17/2009, 9:19 pm EST

First off where is Allen’s coverage RS! Secondly, Max Martin produced N’SYNC’s worst songs so I can already see where this is going.

Anonymous | 8/17/2009, 9:31 pm EST

Adam seems to do and say all the right things so if Adam says the album will be “sick” I gonna believe the dude. Adam won’t let us down! Bring it on Adam!!!

susana | 8/17/2009, 9:53 pm EST

I’m so excited, can’t wait for the album coming out

jolie | 8/17/2009, 9:58 pm EST

Punky… when Kris Allen has major producers and writers knocking on his door, RS will feature him too.

tj | 8/17/2009, 9:59 pm EST

Adam is going Iconic. No one can sing like him, NO ONE. He is one of a kind and a really great human being to boot.

Thanks for the report RS – Wow!!! Can’t wait for the album.

sugarland02 | 8/18/2009, 12:42 am EST

This is one of the greatest part of being a Lambert fan … I don’t know who MAX MARTIN is — but I’m about to Google him.

sugarland02 | 8/18/2009, 12:45 am EST

via Wikipedia — Adam ROCKS!

MAX MARTIN’S trademark during the second half of the 1990s and early 2000s was a danceable, piano/synth-laden pop sound that blended music styles such as funk, heavy metal and europop. However, with Kelly Clarkson’s hits “Since U Been Gone” and “Behind These Hazel Eyes”, which propelled Max back into the spotlight in 2004, he reinvented himself with a new pop rock sound. Since 2008, he has written and co-written four #1 hits including “So What” by Pink, “Hot N Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry, and Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You”.

concerned | 8/18/2009, 12:56 am EST

Expectations are really high right now for Adam. Two outcomes are the possible result: 1. He dosen’t live up to the hype. 2. People jump on the bandwagon and love ANYTHING he does. I just don’t “get” him and his woman voice. In the words of the wise Mugatu, “I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!”

honowoowoo | 8/18/2009, 1:20 am EST

RS Thank you for following this young man’s rise to superstardom! Such an amazing young man with charisma and talent … the world is his for the taking and what an incredible human being! (and oh so easy on the eyes!)

Thanks for reporting on this. I am so incredibly curious how this album will turn out – hoping for incredible Adam vocals, ballads and sensitive stuff, not interested in any of these awful Lady Gaga type gimmicks.

Kate | 8/18/2009, 5:30 am EST

Adam has got some chops! His CD will be fabulous. But one can only hope for more video’s of him performing. He needs to be seen as well as heard.

I am back reading/buying RS mag. again thanks to RS’s coverage and support of Adam Lambert.

Thanks RS. That cover was just beautiful.

ADAM is The PEOPLE”S IDOL.

I’m ADAM’s Angel because there’s another Angel blogger.

Bee | 8/18/2009, 6:00 am EST

Thank you, RS, for the article.

Man Club CEO: You’re paying attention. While your sorry neanderthal asses were hunting, fishing and stroking one another’s napoleon-complexed egos, the brilliant and insanely talented Adam Lambert truly did gently and provocatively, boldly and brazenly, seduce your daughters, wives and mothers into unshakable loyalty and surrender to his command. Try it sometime, hot guy, and see how far YOU get.

Then there is the “silent” group, the vast number of evolved males outside your group, who recognize and appreciate Adam’s talent, who have developed respect for him as a person. They don’t tweet, blog, or post in RS article comment sections. Most don’t attend American Idol tour concerts. But they’ll lay out the cash when the time comes.

That puts you in quite a minority; so insignificant that you become immaterial and irrelevant. Round up your beer-drinking buddies and watch big-wheeled trucks pulverize cars. Or, come on over to my house, meet my husband, the true Man Club CEO you are impersonating. Push his buttons about Adam, and he will leave the intellectual equivalent of a gapping hole where your front teeth now reside.

tina | 8/18/2009, 6:29 am EST

@Bee, love your post.
Im from Hong Kong and It’s true with my CEO husband as well who is on transatlantic trips all the time. We exchange news about ADAM wherever he is. And I’m meeting him in NY this September to catch AI tour in Connecticut just to experience ADAM’s journey into SUPERSTARDOM. My husband upon seeing ADAM when I showed him on my laptop gushed the first time: That boy is the next ELVIS!

Dany681 | 8/18/2009, 10:40 am EST

Adam has affected 3 generations in my home. My tween daughter, my teen son, my husband, myselt and my mother. We are crazed over-the-top GLAMBERTS and worship the airspace that Adam takes up! we had the fortune meet and speak to him in the Idol Meet & Greet in NJ back in Aug 8– and we have never been the same. Adam you have affected our lives in the most positive and artistic way. Your presence just transmits an energy that just cannot be described in words. CANT WAIT FOR YOUR NEW WORK AND UNTIL YOUR SOLO TOUR!! I JUST HOPE WE WILL BE ABLE TO GET TICKETS TO HEAR YOUR ANGELIC SOARING VOCALS ONCE AGAIN IN PERSON!! NYC LOVES YOUUUUU!!!

Shina | 8/18/2009, 11:41 am EST

If this guy butchers one more of my songs i’m sickin’ Iggy on him !

Kirsten | 8/18/2009, 6:02 pm EST

Dear concerned,
You’re right in saying that expectations are really high right now for Adam. There is a slim possibility he doesn’t live up to the hype or that people jump on the bandwagon and love ANYTHING he does. First of all it’s okay to love everything he does because everything he does is perfect! Secondly even if for some reason, and(I seriously doubt this)he doesn’t amaze the world with his first album his true fans are devoted and will love what he creates no matter what the main stream thinks!! You just don’t “get” him and that’s okay. It takes a lot of different people to make a world. If we all liked the same thing life would be predictable and boring. I disagree with your opinion that he has a woman’s voice, but I do agree with Mugatu when he says, “I feel like I’m taking crazy pills”! But not because of the popularity of his “Royal Hotness”, but more how I felt towards America the night they crowned Kris over Adam!!
(No offense Kris fans, he’s a nice enough guy but…)
Well we may not agree in terms of music but at least you have good taste in movies!!

Jonsie | 8/18/2009, 7:31 pm EST

Rolling Stone—you picked a winner this time. For the first time in a very long time, I’m looking to RS to read about an artist–and not just picking the magazine up to read the fantastic (but non-music) articles. Keep it up! I’m 30 yrs. old and for the first time in my life I feel I am witnessing something special in the world of music. I’ve never been in love with a voice before, but now I am. I had been disgusted with the music coverage in RS for a long time (rap crap & tween, anyone??) but if the love affair with Lambert continues….well it just may melt my cold, dark heart.

JLM | 8/18/2009, 8:04 pm EST

Adam can pretty much sing it all and bring it up 100 notches. His album will match up to the hype no doubt and I can’t wait!!! So many men are starting to get him now. He just gets to you and you can’t get over him. He will be the Legendary Idol and so much more.

prgemgirl | 8/18/2009, 11:24 pm EST

Adam Lambert is awesome and I’m sooo sure he will rock the songs Martin will produce!!! What a combination. Love love love them!!! Don’t overproduce though to make sure his incredible vocals still soar and mesmerize us!!!!

mam | 8/18/2009, 11:37 pm EST

Can’t fall come now??????????

RaneAnn | 8/18/2009, 11:57 pm EST

Adam is the most tallented, tintillateing, and gorgeous man I have seen in my lifetime. His vocals while singing “Feeling Good” were totally ADAMAZING!!!Thanks to him I spend most of my free time on my computer watching ADAM Videos on U Tube. I have an account with I Tunes so i can get His Music(they don’t have enough!!)You can pre-order Adam’s CD on Amazon.com. No one has mentioned hearing Adam’s beautiful voice singing Mad World for the Trailer of NBC’s fall TV shows–can’t remember the name–has one of the Fiennes brothers in it…Fox needs to get Adam to guest star on Glee so we could see him–we need to see him!!

Elaine Glambert | 8/19/2009, 12:50 am EST

So excited. Can’t wait for the album. RS, another cover with Adam…Please

Starlight | 8/19/2009, 1:52 am EST

marisa | 8/19/2009, 9:20 pm EST

Realmente espero que su cd sea editado en mi pais ( Argentina),Adam es patrimonio del MUNDO!.

Ping ! | 8/19/2009, 11:05 pm EST

Hordes of SUV Mom’s lusting for this er “guy” seems to mean there’s Alot of newly gay women out there who are just recognizing what their true feelings are ;)

Donna | 8/20/2009, 12:11 pm EST

This is in response to Man Club CEO, are you Gay and just can’t get out of the closet. Why are you such a hater? I realize Adam is one sexy man and that it’s hard for you to accept that you are attracted to this young man. Hell all of us are attracted to Adam he is BEAUTIFUL and he appeals to both sexes! But that is just about his looks, now let’s talk talent. He will be Iconic…have you been watching, listening, reading the world can’t wait for Adam’s CD to drop. I was at the AI concert in Phoenix and believe me everyone there was there to see ADAM. He rocked the stage with his soaring voice and awesome stage presence. I finally figured out why we had never heard of Adam until AI … he was not on TV, face it the camera has a love affair going with Adam, I’ve never seen a bad picture of him and the cover of RS outstanding if you ask me the real winner was Drake and the Snake. So go bash someone else and leave Adam alone, and oh by the way I’m sure Adam would not talk Sh** about you. He’s to much of a gentleman. SO PISS OFF!!!

TheFeyNan | 8/20/2009, 9:14 pm EST

I was a subscriber to Rolling Stone for years, then gave it up when all the Rap & Tween stuff took over. There were some great rock bands(seemed they were UK based) out there but seemed we heard little of them….Now we have Adam, and all the coverage you are giving him, well, let’s just say the check is in the mail…I want my subscription back….like the rest of you, I wait with baited breath for the new CD…I also heard he might release a single as early as October, gawd, I hope that is true. I saw it in an interview he was giving….I keep wondering if it will be from the movie “2012″….another one of those, we will just have to wait and see teases….”The People’s Idol”…I luv that….

John | 8/21/2009, 5:43 am EST

Are you a professional journalist? You write very well.

rach | 8/21/2009, 11:34 am EST

so happy for adam!!!
cant wait for his album to come out!
thanks RS, for keeping us posted about adam!

Tanabanana | 8/21/2009, 10:33 pm EST

I can NOT wait for Adam’s album and now I have two reasons to see 2012! I have NEVER been this excited about an album!

Tanabanana | 8/21/2009, 10:37 pm EST

I agree with Donna, “He will be Iconic…” The people that are closed minded and up tight about sex and sexuality are going to miss out. He doesn’t need them anyway…go Adam, go Adam….1

P-Town | 8/22/2009, 12:57 am EST

Portland LOVES Adam & can’t wait for his new Album… gonna set records folks… mark my words!!!

Bunker | 8/22/2009, 10:25 am EST

I added your blog to bookmarks. And i’ll read your articles more often!

Irene | 9/27/2009, 8:39 pm EST

If that was the real David Bowie who posted earlier, you’d better be VERY careful what you say about our Adam…cause you won’t have any more fans. Besides, Adam can sing 100000000000 times better than you. He gave your songs what we really want!

terie | 10/3/2009, 4:15 pm EST

Google: 100 most technically skilled Rock Vocalists … ADAM is ranked #2 after Jackie Wilson. Also, I heard via his website … adamofficialdotcom … that a DELUXE edition of his album will also be released … no other info … keep checking his website for updates. Hurry up November!!!
