New Radiohead Song “These Are My Twisted Words” Leaks

A purported new Radiohead song called “These Are My Twisted Words” mysteriously hit the Web yesterday. Fansite Atease was first to discover the song, which spread like wildfire throughout the night. The source of the song is unclear, but judging by the video below, the track is unmistakably Radiohead, as Thom Yorke’s trademark croon emerges after two and a half minutes of Krautrock build-up that echo In Rainbows‘ “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi.” Radiohead have not yet commented on the song.

It’s previously been reported that Yorke would be contributing a song called “New Moon” to the Twilight sequel of the same name, but this song is unlike Yorke’s previous solo work like The Eraser. The cryptic text that accompanied the original download suggests the song was a Radiohead track and not Yorke solo, and the track is not “The Present Tense” that Yorke debuted during his solo set at the Latitude Festival last month.

Until the band speaks up (Rolling Stone has reached out for comment), fans have been left to speculate about the origins of the track, and one of the most popular theories on Atease is that “These Are My Twisted Words” is the first song off an upcoming EP called Wall of Ice. The evidence? In the large ASCII art file (courtesy of Atease) that accompanied the track, the phrase “wall of ice” is referenced twice: once in the seemingly Yorke-penned prose accompanying the ASCII art and once again, in large letters, in the artwork itself. The file also boasts a release date of “2009-08-17,” so either “Twisted Words” came from the future or August 17th carries some significance.

The song’s discovery comes just days after Yorke told The Believer in a recent interview that it was unlikely Radiohead would be releasing a new album anytime soon, instead opting to distribute music to fans either by song or with an EP. As Rock Daily previously reported, Radiohead unveiled a new song called “Harry Patch (In Memory Of)” last week, posting the song as a download on their Waste digital music store, so it’s conceivable that “These Are My Twisted Words” was also fated for the Waste shop before its surprise leak yesterday.

In the Believer article, Yorke also bashes the major record label system Radiohead escaped prior to the release of In Rainbows, and the text accompanying the file seems to reiterate Yorke’s stance regarding record companies. Plus, there’s this clever piece of artwork which also references “Wall of Ice” in relation to the music industry. Whatever is going on, there’s no doubt we’ll be locked on Radiohead’s Dead Air Space on August 17th just in case.

Mysterious sounds – l like it :D

RazzTheKid | 8/13/2009, 11:42 am EST

No new album? I hope Thom is just fucking with The Believer. I hope he doesn’t decide to do some stupid bullshit like Billy Corgan and release one song a month on his website or something. There’s nothing better in music than a well put-together album…and Radiohead are flawless at that. Oh well, EPs are better than nothing.

Long live Thom, Phil, Ed, Jonny, and Colin. (and Nigel)

matt in farmers branch | 8/13/2009, 12:28 pm EST

AWESOME SONG!

The Harry Patch song took me some time to get used to (until i got that mass email from Thom with the song meaning and the song lyrics).

But this song is flat out amazing.

Long live Radiohead.

Gracehead | 8/13/2009, 12:29 pm EST

Love this song to pieces and I know in my heart that Radiohead are not done making music. They are born to make music. Hope they never stop!

Briley Style | 8/13/2009, 12:51 pm EST

This song just keeps getting better and better and better! Can’t wait for the new EP monday!
haha

Steely Fred | 8/13/2009, 12:56 pm EST

Radiohead are going to lose me if they plan on only releasing a song or two at a time on the internet. I need my albums. Good song.

draz | 8/13/2009, 1:12 pm EST

ehh.it’s okay.rainbows was a great album. i appreciate radiohead trying to branch into classical music with their recent song about the last UK soldier in WW1, but it reveals the limited knowledge they have in orchestration, and that thom yorke has no business trying to be pavarotti. he’s an awful singer but it works well for radiohead music. fragile, paranoid, and disgusted. we can all relate. Hell, if the new stuff turns the kids on to Mozart and Beethoven well, gimme more of the grateful ‘head.

moneysucks | 8/13/2009, 1:15 pm EST

harry patch is better than harry potter. but yeah thom yorke shouldn’t sing classical sounding music. however…radiohead should most definitely compose an Opera! I’d go see it ;-)

Phil | 8/13/2009, 2:20 pm EST

I really like this. Regarding the whole EP thing, has everyone forgot My Iron Lung EP? Now that’s an EP and a half. I really wouldn’t mind if they released a few different Ep’s, Thom even said they don’t wanna do a whole record with all the songs in a similar mould again, lots of different EP’s would be very interesting doesn’t everyone think?

Me | 8/13/2009, 2:45 pm EST

Why do I enjoy Radiohead screwing with my mind so much?

Mike | 8/13/2009, 3:24 pm EST

Radiohead’s “EPs” have generally been compilations of b-sides. My Iron Lung is a compilation of tracks from various My Iron Lung single releases, and Airbag/How’s My Driving is also compiled from various singles. Thom released a “Spitting Feathers” solo EP in Japan (same thing). So more or less they have never released an EP of material that has not appeared anywhere else. In that sense, it would be a new thing for them to do.

fragglerock | 8/13/2009, 4:17 pm EST

ehh..nothing new under the sun i guess. this does nothing to push the sound forward for Radiohead.

mincy | 8/13/2009, 4:20 pm EST

not that groundbreaking or experimental. actually U2’s latest is much better than this. from their No Line Album, fez/being born is a lot more experimental as well.

Paul | 8/13/2009, 4:24 pm EST

singer sounds like a gnat gnawing on my balls. dude sucks. and this is just basic guitar noodling and simple kick drum and everybody here is still gonna kiss their ass cause they’re radiohead. seriously this isn’t anything that great, and certainly nothing new. Rainbows was pretty good.

jango | 8/13/2009, 4:27 pm EST

these guys are still around? seriously, i thought they broke up after okay computers.

LOL | 8/13/2009, 5:06 pm EST

U2 is more experimental?!? Did you LISTEN to No Line? They may have changed things up a little, but they’re still treading water. Any album that contains such by-the-numbers garbage as I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight or the embarrassing Get on Your Boots can hardly be considered experimental. U2 would never even try something like this song, it sounds like a mixture of Sonic Youth and krautrock such as Can. Radiohead are just a much more exciting band at this point.

colingreenwood | 8/13/2009, 5:45 pm EST

Please do not mention U2 ever again!!! This song is amazing, btw.

cure58 | 8/13/2009, 7:13 pm EST

Somewhat reminiscent of the Cure’s “Fear of Ghosts”.

Rob | 8/13/2009, 9:38 pm EST

I fucking love Radiohead.

al bundy | 8/13/2009, 9:45 pm EST

U2 are experimental and they happen to do one key thing Radiohead lost somewhere along the way, WRITE A SONG WITH A MELODY!

Anonymous | 8/13/2009, 10:01 pm EST

This is very good music. Congradulations to them.

drt | 8/13/2009, 10:09 pm EST

amazing.
all is amazing.
i love this band!

Jonah | 8/13/2009, 10:17 pm EST

It definitely sounds like a Radiohead track, and a damned good one at that!

jasmin | 8/13/2009, 10:24 pm EST

overrated bullshit. radiohead on autopilot. to the idiot below yes U2 is way better than this. They can write melodies. Radiohead have forgotten how. this is lazy nonsense. Thom yorke is a shit sandwich of a singer. I’ll take anything on No Line On The Horizon over this. That song yorke did for Harry Potter was nonsense. rudimentary orchestra 101 beginning composer crap.

daveg | 8/13/2009, 10:32 pm EST

radiohead could jerk off and put a cherry on top, and most of you would say it’s genius. if thom yorke wanted to stick his teeny prick up your corn hole most of you would gladly bend over & consider it the best thing ever. wusses.

al bundy | 8/13/2009, 11:04 pm EST

A hook and a melody. 2 major words in music that radiohead have seem to forgotten

radio_gimme_head | 8/13/2009, 11:48 pm EST

guy below…sounds like sonic youth? well..they are overrated as well. pretty average autopilot track here. what happened here? Rainbows was a good album. you’d think the momentum would’ve carried. but this is a steaming pile of poo.

Marco | 8/14/2009, 12:01 am EST

what the fuck are u talking about?
radiohead it’s AWESOME
seriously dude, they’re like, the best band in the world right now..

LOLita | 8/14/2009, 12:03 am EST

that’s it??? really?! wtf. any art-slacker paint-by-numbers band could commit this injustice. shame on you yorke and greenwood and the rest of you salad tossers for buying into this crap.

Marco | 8/14/2009, 12:12 am EST

damn.. that song wasn’t good at all..

jenga_doystevch | 8/14/2009, 12:14 am EST

more like ‘could have been’ best band. this song blows. they lost the plot somewhere. radio is dead.

Chuck | 8/14/2009, 12:58 am EST

Not sure why everyone is gnashing their teeth at Radiohead. I agree this isn’t an amazing song, but I also don’t think its aiming for that. It sounds like a doodle…a sketch. Nothing more. Even then, its far more interesting than most crap you hear these days.
If there is anything more annoying than a flock of sheep following an overrated band, its the backlash flock that jump on the “anti” bandwagon because their own favorite band sucks by comparison.

cb900 | 8/14/2009, 1:04 am EST

Remember when Radiohead were amazing? It’s sad to look back on how great Ok Computer era Radiohead was, and now were left with this

Chuck | 8/14/2009, 1:06 am EST

P.S.- U2 never has been, or ever will be, as good as Radiohead. The End.

jadedeyes | 8/14/2009, 1:29 am EST

possible leftover from In Rainbows? either way it sounds like a nice fleshed out demo that may lead to something at the very least, will be a pleasant listen.

grunt | 8/14/2009, 2:33 am EST

New Moon. ugh. thom sucks satan’s member in a bill hicksian sense. grunt. New spoogh moon. Thom starting vineyard soon.

MyleyCyrus'WallOfIce | 8/14/2009, 2:49 am EST

This is a collective of individuals who are gifted enough to create a momentum on their own artistic merit. Without the aid of a corporate sponsor or a costly stage show.

This guy | 8/14/2009, 2:55 am EST

Wow! Way to judge one song guys. Go listen to “Melatonin” from the “OK Computer-Era”(I hate that phrase)and tell me that sounds anything like what they released then…..The sound of this song means nothing without any supporting info(like when was it written/recorded, and purpose it was written/recorded), so to rush to any judgements is entirely WRONG.

And to say Radiohead can’t write melody is ridiculous(look at “The Bends” and even “In Rainbows”) and besides melody isn’t the only thing that matters in music.

Ps. I’m not an angry Radiohead fanboy, they have done plenty of things I’m not a fan of.

Outrider | 8/14/2009, 5:04 am EST

U2 more experimental than Radiohead????? Even on Achtung Baby they never experimented as much as Radiohead’s less experimental albums!! Radiohead is a whole different niche, and they hardly ever dissapoint IMO, whereas U2 is often far too commercial and soft to ever reach that unique sound

Outrider | 8/14/2009, 5:17 am EST

And all things besides, this supposedly new song was not released officialy – it leaked onto the web, so why bother rating this??

quiqy | 8/14/2009, 5:20 am EST

blows

nathan | 8/14/2009, 7:49 am EST

Never really been a radiohead fan, his voice is annoying durge and the melodies are bleak and depressing, then again i suposse that’s the style they’re aiming for

adam | 8/14/2009, 8:07 am EST

Yes quiqy you blow this song rules

Nick | 8/14/2009, 8:22 am EST

Awesome.

radiodead | 8/14/2009, 9:10 am EST

just because you avoid writing a good melody and have dead cat as your singer doesn’t qualify you as experimental alone. radiohead wrote decent melodies at one time. they’ve given up unfortunately. this song is crap. it has to be a leftover or a future B side. because if this is the single, it’s over for these guys. there’s nothing new here. U2 have a much more unique sound both on guitar and vocals than radiohead. at least Bono can sing. and their melodies will be long remembered when this moaning wailing dirge music is long forgotten.

nina | 8/14/2009, 9:22 am EST

All the attention this is getting speaks for itself. Radiohead are the most important band of today.

jeff | 8/14/2009, 9:22 am EST

My fave RH album is Amnesiac so this song takes me back from that era! Hope there is an EP on Monday!!!!!!!

rastapasta | 8/14/2009, 9:25 am EST

just cause somethin is experimental dont make it good either. you got to have songwriting, and soul. this is a fractured soul, very bleak. works on some albums but so cliche now. radiohead are emotionally monochromatic. they only do paranoid, isolated music for people who have given up on life and themselves. they have no joy at all. their fans make fun of people who do find a way to stay positive and who don’t give in. i think radiohead are very sad. i actually feel sorry for them. i think they need to listen to more Bob Marley. everythin gonna be all right! just not tonight with this song.

urmomtasteslikechicken | 8/14/2009, 9:34 am EST

ha who cares about ‘important bands’ what you’re buying the lifestyle? do you think you’re a member of radiohead? lol. grow up. these guys sell their music with as much effort as miley cyrus. they just use different tactics and try to be all ‘alt cool’. they know you will sniff every turd out of their bungholes. get a life.

most people think this song sucks. this time they are right. radiohead should have quit after Rainbows.

Adrian | 8/14/2009, 9:40 am EST

Radiohead are somewhat tortured artists but I like the level of bleakness because it’s honest. Yet again, I am not a happy go lucky person. Go figure. And the band members themselves are pretty happy – raising their families and juggling a successful career.

DS | 8/14/2009, 9:43 am EST

So glad to have a new burst of Radiohead into my life again, really hope this signals a new EP! Can’t wait for sunday night at Reading!

Huh. | 8/14/2009, 9:43 am EST

I don’t get people that criticize bands for being ‘bleak’ and ’sad’. Some of the best music ever created was/is ‘bleak’ and ’sad’. Not all music can be happy, and I’m glad.

Outrider | 8/14/2009, 9:56 am EST

Comparing U2 to Radiohead? Everybody has a taste all of his own I guess… Radiohead don’t do bleak melodies, they are actually very warm once you get to the bottom (if you ever get there), and not at all that hopeless and paranoid as a lot of the posts here try to claim (and I do say ‘try’). Radiohead have done what no other rock band has ever done before: going from a million selling rock album ‘ok computer’ straight to an eclectic, screwed up and strangely beautifull genius electronic album, which itself became a N° 1 hit ‘kid A’. And even Kid A is warm beneath the layers you have to get through to really experience its depth. I love U2 for some of their work, but I never ever get the feeling that with U2 I have to really listen to comprehend what’s going on beneath the skin of a song, and that’s ultimately what makes Radiohead daring and experimental than U2. (compare U2 to Oasis, works better) Just as Tool has no true comparison in their genre (because it is their own genre), Radiohead sit on a niche all their own, and that’s not something you achieve just by selling millions of albums, but by creating an art and taking it to the next level. To me their music is rich as it is warm, yes, even Kid A is warm enough for me, and I am generally a happy person. Keep on going Radiohead!

RH | 8/14/2009, 9:57 am EST

Wall of Ice Ep coming out on Monday???? Please let this be for real!

Cat | 8/14/2009, 10:14 am EST

Terrific song, love it! Dark and sinister = Radiohead at its best. Thom Yorke’s voice sounds dreamy here.

I wasn’t that fond of the Harry Patch tribute either. But that song was written specifically for the cause and I think it’s meant to sound like something Harry Patch himself would like and listen to, i.e. it’s not exactly meant to cater to the tastes of indie rock fans, yeah?

But this song…this song is AMAZING! Looking forward to the next album (or EP, or whatever).

raisedlefteyebrow | 8/14/2009, 11:38 am EST

radio_gimme_head:

“guy below…sounds like sonic youth? well..they are overrated as well.”

Are you fucking serious? Sonic Youth were fucking revolutionary dumbass. Shows you know jackshit about music dumbass.

This is a good song. Everyone who says radiohead has no melody is an idiot and has obviously limited if existent at all knowledge of their music or music at all for that matter. All music (exept maybe for expirimental dischordant stuff) has melody. Just because it sounds dark doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And Radiohead has created some beautiful melodies. Weird Fishers/Arpeggi, Reckoner, and Nude would be some of the best examples. Oh and regarding U2, U2 creates generic, echo laden, uplifting “lets give the world a hug” mush. They’ve never upset anyone because they’re SAFE. Radiohead, as clearly shown on this comments board upsets a lot of people who aren’t used to them. It’s called “pushing musical boundaries”. Some of you should listen to band’s that actually do that.

beeker | 8/14/2009, 11:45 am EST

these times are dark enough. i think radiohead would be more interesting if they actually tried to make a joyful song. not ‘happy’ as someone here suggested. happy is usually being content – that is boring. it’s an odd thing to experience joy, and sometimes hard to convince others and be honest about it. The Beatles could do it, the Beach Boys too. Bob Marley could do it, and sometimes U2. wait that rhymes ;-P. Anyway, sorry to say…this just isn’t that good. I liked KidA and also thought in Rainbows had hints of underlying joy, even amidst the bleak lyrics. But too often they do this same thing. experimental doesn’t always have to be so dreary. i like radiohead but they need to take a break, a short divergence, from these well-trodden themes of isolation and weariness.

radiogimmehead | 8/14/2009, 11:59 am EST

raisedleftcheek – lol. i’m so sorry i hurt your feelings. you obviously have radiohead posters all over your room, a roll of toilet paper, and a jar of hand lotion. radiohead are not so upsetting. now Lady Gagme…that is upsetting, and nearly horrifying. radiohead have good moments but i’m tired of their sameness. this song here is nothing new. it just isn’t. yeah, i guess it has notes that could be called a melody but it’s uninspiring and there’s nothing to it. people said Arnold Schoenberg was such an important music theorist, and yet most of his experiments with atonal music are forgettable garbage.

Mike | 8/14/2009, 12:01 pm EST

This song has a lot of potential, and some great moments – sparse lyrics, but i like the chorus. Great overall mood…feel like it could have been on Amnesiac.

People, why are you complaining about them not being upbeat? When is the last time they made an upbeat, happy song? It’s not their thing – and if you’re looking for that, Coldplay is playing at your local abercrombie & fitch.

As for all the haters in here, whatever….you can’t please everyone – but Radiohead are supremely talented (if you have ever seen them perform live, this is impossible to deny), and without doubt the most critically acclaimed band in the world. Their success speaks for itself.

youwish | 8/14/2009, 12:07 pm EST

pushing musical boundaries, ha ha. you only wish. i applaud them for trying but if their game is pushing boundaries they really haven’t done that so much. they have created something reasonably unique over the years. but they’ve hit a wall. they should get better at orchestral music before they actually release it. the song for the WW1 Vet is just embarrassing. And this is just formulaic. it doesn’t push musical boundaries as much as it pushes in your stool.

because i’ve liked radiohead in the past i’m calling them on this shit. dump yorke as your singer. he is limiting the music.

FISTfirst | 8/14/2009, 12:09 pm EST

SUCKCESS KILLED THE RADIOHEAD.

Mike | 8/14/2009, 12:19 pm EST

“dump yorke as your singer. he is limiting the music.”

This is the most ridiculous statement I have seen in a very long time. Get a clue.

Mika | 8/14/2009, 12:30 pm EST

just an observation: if The Radioheads are so great, then why do they need so many little fan boys and girls to defend them. it’s pathetic.

i’m not even going to bother listening to this overrated shite.

jimmyz | 8/14/2009, 12:34 pm EST

My dad likes Radiohead. they’re getting old now.

dingro | 8/14/2009, 12:46 pm EST

i cant believe they did a song for harry potter. i will never listen to these posers again. so many fan-nies here i thought this was coldplay for a second.

stephanie | 8/14/2009, 12:50 pm EST

yorke and bjork are 2 of the worst singers of the past 20 or so years. they really deserve each other. yorke especially, they try so hard at looking like they’re not trying. what a vocal fart-fest.

Damien | 8/14/2009, 1:05 pm EST

Harry Potter? You mean Harry Patch? Moron

Sammy | 8/14/2009, 1:10 pm EST

It sounds like a b-side and I am hoping something big does happen on Monday:)

dingro | 8/14/2009, 1:18 pm EST

Damien: Harry Patch? I meant your mom’s crusty Snatch. douchebag.

AnnieBell | 8/14/2009, 1:25 pm EST

It always baffles me how popular Radiohead are. I mean don’t get me wrong I am a fan but they really shouldn’t be this popular. They certainly don’t make music for the masses – they make music for themselves. And yet people always seem to forget that.

shoko | 8/14/2009, 1:39 pm EST

if u don’t like radiohead (maybe it’s too pathetic/abstract…) then go and listen something else!

chibura | 8/14/2009, 1:42 pm EST

Hehe..radiohead don’t just make music for themselves. they have an audience, a big one too. they are a ‘lifestyle’ band that’s marketed to represent something that people identify with so that they become pavlovian consumers. this is the same with any product. radiohead are not so unusual, and they are quite accessible despite the appearance that they are trying not to be an alt-rock band.

sarah | 8/14/2009, 1:59 pm EST

it’s not abstract music really. it’s not that difficult or incredibly deep. at least not as deep as all you fannies want it to be. there are deeper artists out there that don’t hype their music like these guys. you fannies are clutching onto something that isn’t going to save you from having to deal with your pathetic lives.

bingobango | 8/14/2009, 2:04 pm EST

oh look how ‘alt’ i am. i like radiohead. the world is ending so i’m just going to stay in bed. i’m going to complain about how the world sucks and not try to change it. because it’s useless and uncool to try. i like other ‘alt’ bands too, but when i want people to think that i know what i’m talking about, i throw radioheads name out there so that i can get some music credibility points.

Me | 8/14/2009, 2:14 pm EST

“SUCKCESS KILLED THE RADIOHEAD”

Ha! Are you serious? Radiohead’s been successful for well over a decade! Ever heard of Creep?

Its obvious that few people here have listened to enough Radiohead to criticize them within the realm of reason. I personally prefer Radiohead’s OK Computer and The Bends sound but to put down Kid A and subsequent albums as trash just because they’re not the traditional rock formula is stupid. So is calling something pretentious just because it’s not straightforward.

This song is good. Not the best from them, but its good. It’s easy to bash a band you know little about. What’s harder is to actually take your head out of your ass and give a fair listen.

yup | 8/14/2009, 3:18 pm EST

well they sure know how to keep the hype

Hunter | 8/14/2009, 5:42 pm EST

I don’t think people name Radiohead as one of their favorite bands, just so they can look “hip” and “alternative”, I think people name Radiohead as one of their favorite bands because so many people love their music so much. Maybe it’s that simple you bonehead critics posting here.

Hunter | 8/14/2009, 5:46 pm EST

Oh yeah, and not only are Radiohead WAY better than U2, so are Pearl Jam and Sonic Youth too.

radiosuck | 8/14/2009, 5:54 pm EST

well i’d be offended if I was Harry Patch and radiohead wrote that song for me. Sounds more like your grandma’s Hairy Snatch.

duckie | 8/14/2009, 6:05 pm EST

ehh..another mediocre song from an overrated band that has overstayed their welcome. thom yorke could rub his ass on his guitar and you guys would say they’re ‘pushing the boundaries of music’. what a joke. the only hting they’re pushing is THEIR music w/all this hype nonsense. The only thing brilliant about it is they’re getting you to push your pin # on an atm machine. radiohead should retire and start an ‘alt’ media company.

Grady | 8/14/2009, 6:07 pm EST

Man that is bad. I’d written off Radiohead a while back but thought I’d check in to hear if anything has changed. Nope. More of Thom & co’s mopey, dark, depressing sonic sludge.

Like so much of modern music: we know only what you’re AGAINST (the government, war, the “man”, “evil” technology… etc. etc.)… but what are you FOR???

pinkstain | 8/14/2009, 6:08 pm EST

lol, you said Hairy Snatch. It’s Hairy Patch.

pinkstain | 8/14/2009, 6:11 pm EST

Lia | 8/14/2009, 6:50 pm EST

well, I really like the track.

and maybe you people should be a little more open minded. and i mean it in the sense that there are different kinds of music and different kinds of tastes. you are really in no position to judge. nor compare, for the matter.

if you dislike radiohead then fine, suit yourself, go listen to whatever it is that you do like. but dont come here pretending to be above everyone else.

Gimme a break radiohead haters! Is it the best song I’ve ever heard from them? No. Is it pretty good? Yeah. Why? Because I bet they didn’t know when they started the song, how it was going to end up. That is what is best in their music. The Frankenstein lab experimentation. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
If you don’t like it? Go listen to Tokio Hotel. You will probably like that. Word!

I love Radiohead and have been on a binge of their music for the past two months, but this track sounds as if they are treading water creatively. It seems as if Radiohead tried to mimic the feeling of Weird Fishes but failed to top it. Hopefully a few more listens will pull me in, but nothing is making me love this track.

quiqy | 8/14/2009, 8:36 pm EST

radioheads new song blows

LOL

maracuyito | 8/14/2009, 8:47 pm EST

The ‘clever piece of artwork’ you talk about in the last part of the post is actually from the webcomic xkcd, in case someone didn’t know. Just in case… Please don’t send me horrible messages hating me for pointing the obvious in case everyone knows about it and instead go to xkcd.com and enjoy those comics. I like Radiohead a lot, I liked the song and i’ts great they’re no longer with a record company ’cause record companies are run by assholes. They had their chance to do things right and handle music responsibly and not overcharge for it a long time ago and they didn’t, so fuck them. Bye.

bigsowndz | 8/14/2009, 8:54 pm EST

Once you have seen this band live, you understand why people love them so deeply. Until you have seen them in person, you have very little concept of the stunning grace, power, and genius that is Radiohead.

rubberbandman | 8/14/2009, 8:56 pm EST

yeah, Grady said it best here: What do Radiohead stand for? It’s easy to be against something. And it’s also considered more ‘cool’. But to be for something, now that is brave and you generally take a lot of shit for that. Radiohead aren’t for anything really. Bunch of mediocre hypocrites. this is shite.

maracuyito | 8/14/2009, 8:56 pm EST

Shit, now that I read most of the posts, I see that no one actually gives a shit about the artwork… You’re just hating Radiohead, as if anyone is gonna stop liking radiohead because someone says they’re overrated, or defending the band againste the ‘haters’ as if they needed someone to do that, or as if any of those people really hated Radiohead, which I think it’s not the case, you hate the fact that others like Radiohead, not the band itself.
Ayway, I’m glad no one will answer my post about the artwork with the guy on top of the wall of ice.

rubberbandman | 8/14/2009, 9:00 pm EST

radiohead’s sound is influenced primarily from The Beatles, U2, and PinkFloyd as well as IDM artists. Those 3 specific bands I mentioned have songs that will stand the test of time and will probably be remembered 300+ years from now. radiohead will not. they lack the tunes. The will be remembered 30 years from now for shock value and media/marketing tactics, that’s it. then the ywill be forgotten.

josh | 8/14/2009, 9:00 pm EST

pop is dead | 8/14/2009, 10:19 pm EST

radiohead is getting boring

londonafter | 8/14/2009, 10:36 pm EST

that new moon shit can’t be for real!!!!!!!!!! Thom Yorke writing a song for one of the worst movies ever!!?? i thought he had studied literature so he should know how much of an insult to good reading the twilight series are! AAAAAHHH what a fucking sellout!!

Chuck | 8/15/2009, 1:44 am EST

Wow.
I’m now completely convinced 95% of you haters only know Radiohead because of media attention and from playing Creep on Guitar Hero.

As for the rest of you, what in the hell is so wrong with this song?? You all act like you haven’t heard a thing the band has done for the last 10 years. Is it their best song? No! But it is FAR from their worst, and hardly different from anything since “The Bends!”

This is OBVIOUSLY a doodle. It is the greatest band in the world messing around a bit, and sharing the result.
And when you say us fans would love it even if Thom shit on a record, it is true. Because Thom’s shit still sounds better then your favorite band any day of the weak. Deal with it.

MyleyCyrus'WallOfIce | 8/15/2009, 3:14 am EST

HYPE.
Take note on how much one song has garnered through simple ‘leak’.

Now think about the band you most like. Have they/could they pull something like this off?

Very few artists can do something like what this band has done. Keep an eye on Radiohead. They’re not doing something that hasn’t been done before. They’re just doing it better. And smarter.

Which says a LOT about a band and its fanbase.

Hi.. | 8/15/2009, 3:26 am EST

I like music. I like some Radiohead songs. I enjoy their distinct and unique style. The same style that is present on this song. This song is definitly not one of their greatest, because they are capable of making better tunes. I still like this vibe and sound though. If you don’t that is okay, you can listen to whatever you want.

Chris | 8/15/2009, 3:29 am EST

Wow i didn’t know there was so much Radiohead bitterness. Where is this coming from? A lack of understanding maybe

hello | 8/15/2009, 4:26 am EST

we got another fanboy!
LOL

shut up already!!!

bob | 8/15/2009, 8:16 am EST

If wall of ice doesn’t some Monday there will be a riot lol !

deadmanwalking | 8/15/2009, 10:47 am EST

most of the comments are so negative on this song. and they’re right. this is garbage. it’s funny that radiohead fans are nothing more than jonas brothers fanboys & girls. same thing just a different band. radiohead have changed nothing.

dirtydiapersonurhead | 8/15/2009, 10:52 am EST

garbage? shite? boring? YOU’RE A 100% RIGHT. This song sucks ass. Radiohead should call it quits. someone said it best, “it’s easy to be against something, but what are you for?” being for something takes balls. because you take a lot of shit when you stand up to people. radiohead took the ‘cool’ route, and just say everything is shit and government sucks etc. well, what are you going to do about it? radiohead have nothing to say. it’s over.

dfence | 8/15/2009, 10:59 am EST

radiohead sucks

Ally | 8/15/2009, 2:14 pm EST

I love this song. It’s not so much rock, but it resembles something with a eastern touch. The repetitions come in patterns, almost like mantras. Some people will not understand this, and probably that is why so many come here to say the song is shit.

adam | 8/15/2009, 2:58 pm EST

actually radiohead is for something. it’s called making music. yea they’re not poet-sages like bob dylan but i would rank them in the top ten best bands in history.

londanafter sucks | 8/15/2009, 3:10 pm EST

londanafter you cant say its sucks becouse youve never seen it before and also its great cause it means we get new thom yorke material so shut it

EricSwartz | 8/15/2009, 4:02 pm EST

I became a Radiohead fan last month. I still do not understand their lyrics but people tell me they are cool.

scottyg | 8/15/2009, 4:30 pm EST

radio is dead. best band in the world my ass. i’d take a Muse song over this any day. radiohead should have taken their managers advice and QUIT.

jumpsuit-jimmy | 8/15/2009, 4:33 pm EST

fanboys suck. this song is okay. nothing great. whatever

Kelly | 8/15/2009, 4:36 pm EST

…i like this song =/

i lack fanboys | 8/15/2009, 4:58 pm EST

YEAH people tell you that they are cool but its you who decides rather they are cool or another mediocre boring depressing shite!

pikachou | 8/15/2009, 5:06 pm EST

radiohead does suck lately

Drunken Punch Up | 8/15/2009, 5:07 pm EST

All, if you don’t like their music then don’t listen – simple. It’s not been shoved down your collective throats. We’re all victims of marketing and perpetrators of consumerism – you’ve accessed this via rolling stone for goodness sake. Real Radiohead fans know their true value, and actually don’t care what they look like, believe in, eat for breakfast or if they continue to make good music….each song will be judged on it’s merits. Get a life if you don’t have anything better to do than make stupid comments. Go consume something else.

xanderjones | 8/15/2009, 5:31 pm EST

wow….holy crap everyone hates radiohead! sweet!! that’s awesome!

I think that radiohead is being blackmailed, or otherwise told to not talk about certain stuff. Because they always had their anti political/political thing going on, and they actually were starting to name names, and name places. but then they had too much to lose. listen to “wolf at the door” off hail to the theif and you’ll know what i’m talking about. That’s my theory anyway.

The harry patch song wasn’t THAT great, but it’s good for radiohead fans.

but seriously i hated every single radiohead album when first released, and i always thought, “ok they finally went too far” but after a couple listens you really do know there is something there, even if you don’t quite or can’t quite understand it.

I think i like this direction they are going with releasing only a few songs here and there and ep’s and what have you. dude….screw the record labels, screw the “best of” radiohead album.

This feels more like i’m collecting something. like i have to wait until next week to figure out what happens next. Did alicia’s dead husband actually drown that fateful day or was he just lost in the bush for 2 years with amnesia and the harlem globe trotters?!?! I HAVE TO KNOW!!

i’ve been told i write very chopilly lol. ok, anyway listen to in rainbows disk 2 there’s a few pretty great radiohead type songs in there (you fanboys will know what i mean by that)

victor | 8/15/2009, 6:08 pm EST

okay..so u2´s new album isn´t very experimental…that´s okay…but haven´t any of you heard POP or Zooropa??? really experimental and weird stuff (amazing also) they opened the doors for Radiohead´s Kid A and Amnesiac, all really experimental and great also….I am a huge fan of both bands…both are my faves….a tie….and I wanna say…radiohead does nothing??? haven´t any of you heard about The Big Ask? their low energy stage? the way they are trying to rework the way musics are released? all their camapigns and stuff??? if you are gonna argue have decent arguments…what the hell…people know nothing of nothing and wanna argue…about u2 and radiohead….and music…comparing radiohead to jonas brothers that´s funny huahauhauhauhauhuaau….one makes music just for the sake of it, the others are disney posers….

cmen | 8/15/2009, 7:04 pm EST

You say what does radiohead stand for? Plenty if you cared to look it up. The question should be what do you stand for? And who the @#% are you anyway?

bob | 8/15/2009, 7:31 pm EST

Too many haters! I wonder if Pink Floyd had nasty haters in their heyday?Probably

okay | 8/15/2009, 7:49 pm EST

Shane | 8/15/2009, 11:07 pm EST

DONT even compare that nickle back crap with radiohead.

Michael Schirmer | 8/16/2009, 1:01 am EST

I really hope they put out a proper album. I need some new Radiohead. It’s been too long.

markwade | 8/16/2009, 1:15 am EST

Radioshit are not as much about making music as they are about hype. but it’s like at the other end of the spectrum of hype. they play with your mind a bit. i just wish they’d put that same energy into the songs. They’ve done decent albums that will be around for a while, but they lack songs that will be remembered forever (meaning 200 years+ from now.). SO they will never live up to their potential. Instead they will sulk about it, and act all ‘alt’ and shit, and try to figure out a different way to promote an album. They’ve basically ditched the business of music and gotten into ‘alt’ marketing.

this game is pretty tired if you ask me.

Mr. T-Bag | 8/16/2009, 1:27 am EST

Creep sums up everything these guys are about. They could have quit right after this song because it sums them up perfectly. “I’m a creep, I’m a weirdo, I don’t belong here, I would go play with myself, but I don’t have any balls.” Everything they’ve done since comes back to this core message.

heyZeus | 8/16/2009, 1:38 am EST

an actual radiohead fan

“I’m guessing most people here are into Nickelback, Linkin Park and other shit like that.”

No. I was in your Mom but I played the shit out of that. I couldn’t get the stank out for a week. Shit was rank like this Radioshack song.

frenchtickler | 8/16/2009, 2:01 am EST

hehe…RADIOSHACK SUCKS!!

Random Listener | 8/16/2009, 2:24 am EST

I don’t understand these comments that say radiohead sucks. First off… why are you commenting on a band that many, many people enjoy even if you don’t? Are you God? No… So shut up… the music industry doesn’t revolve around you.

Bill | 8/16/2009, 11:12 am EST

Mr. T Bag you are any utter moron. Nice day, anyway.

Wall of Ice????? | 8/16/2009, 11:14 am EST

If we don’t get anything on Monday, I will try not to be disappointed but like everything with RH – it’s all hype.

Radiohead | 8/16/2009, 11:30 am EST

the album is going to be great just like in rainbows, nuff said.

Radiohead | 8/16/2009, 11:30 am EST

the album is going to be great just like in rainbows, nuff said.

Dan | 8/16/2009, 12:20 pm EST

I must say, there’s a lot of fucking idiots on the web.

Good song.

raisedlefteyebrow | 8/16/2009, 1:10 pm EST

“They’ve basically ditched the business of music and gotten into ‘alt’ marketing.”

And this is bad because? Oh I see. You love the music industry because you enjoy the continuous piles of shit they shove down your throat. You liked Chinese Democracy didn’t you?

Junior | 8/16/2009, 1:56 pm EST

Wow, it makes me sad for my generation that can’t even appreciate good quality music (that that of what Radiohead are doing – experimental and daring). Instead people tend to like bands like Fall Out Boy or Paramore – generic and bland. It’s really a sad world. I like this new song because it reminds me of Pink Floyd and Sonic Youth. IF you don’t like what they are doing don’t post and make yourself look like a fool.

tanyateonelli | 8/16/2009, 2:58 pm EST

you douche are a fucking idiot comparing radioshack (lol) to the great enduring PINK FLOYD. fuck off! Radiohead are not nearly as inventive as the Floyd have been. fucking morons. go play with you thom yourk action figures.

Mingus | 8/16/2009, 3:05 pm EST

when i think about the music form the generation of say 16-25 year olds…this generation has produced the worst music i’ve probably ever heard. It lacks any life. The beats have become tired and you guys can’t seem to do anything new whatsoever. You’re basically the generation that abandoned melody and when you do attempt it you just recycle old melodies and old ideas. maybe it’s not your fault completely. i think there are greater forces at work and the world as we know it will end in 2012.

radiohead are calling us to our end. enjoy the rest of your weekend! ;-)

Sarcasm:Come on in. | 8/16/2009, 6:15 pm EST

Radiohead r old and stupid. whys dont you all listen to real bands like metro station or miley cirus. the cirus family are the most important artists since michael jackson. Radiohead couldnt write a decent hit in 10,000 Days.

Jana | 8/16/2009, 7:01 pm EST

Spellbinding, eerie, mystical, disturbing, yet somehow comforting…GREAT SONG! Ends too soon, makes me long for more.
Hope the rumoured EP arrives in the near future.

herbie | 8/16/2009, 8:05 pm EST

success did kill radiohead

Jimmy Shoemaker | 8/16/2009, 10:47 pm EST

maybe theyre following their long time semi-imposter friends, Muse by adding to the twilight movies

thats my theory

VedoSunian | 8/17/2009, 12:22 am EST

Omg I want to bash out most your brains or lack there of on this post. You’re a bunch of thumb sucking, Flo- Rida listen, idiotic, drones. You don’t have a clue as to what exactly makes Radiohead so brilliant so go download the latest Rhianna song and keep your mouth shut about what you can’t possibly understand.

Sean | 8/17/2009, 12:24 am EST

I think the people who weren’t fans before In Rainbows and those who jumped off the bandwagon after Kid A need to keep their worthless comments to themselves (Lidia, et al). What the hell, the song is SICK. If you don’t hear what makes this music great, piss off and go listen to Coldplay.

Roger Waters | 8/17/2009, 12:55 am EST

Who ever said it sounded like Pink Floyd is spot on. It sounds like Interstellar Overdrive. Its a nice moody piece but basically a b side which isn’t a bad thing. Well that’s my 2 cents.

koala | 8/17/2009, 1:21 am EST

wow radioshack sure sucks

papa jon | 8/17/2009, 3:31 am EST

i am gonna but new HEALTH’s EP

not radioheads

jneri | 8/17/2009, 10:09 am EST

What makes these users think that Radiohead should “call it quits”? They are simply making music as a form of self-expression, not for financial gain and certainly not for acceptance.

If you were walk into a jazz club and hear a trumpet solo that you don’t understand or dislike, would you tell them to call it quits?

I’m starting to think people just post comments on these stupid sites just to piss everyone off, it really doesn’t make sense otherwise. These artists don’t owe you anything.

In any case, sounds like a b-side.

Drunken Punch Up | 8/17/2009, 2:08 pm EST

That’s the great thing about Radiohead, they don’t even need Thom Yorke to sing to make great music. Bring on Reading!!!!!!!!!

P.S. U2 have a cause? They sold out big time, wasting loads of money on claw sets while trying to preach about poverty – what losers. I was one of the 88000 at Wembley – I wasn’t blown away. Bono is a bonehead.

DKFellon | 8/17/2009, 5:42 pm EST

Radio head is great.) -dk

lol | 8/17/2009, 6:35 pm EST

laST WORD

radiohead sucks

Bluv3350 | 8/18/2009, 10:42 am EST

One thing about the internet is that it’s given any dipshit with a computer the convenience of being a critic without having any qualifications, as witnessed by the people on here saying Radiohead sucks.

Look, I like pop stuff too. It has it’s place in the world. If you like Miley Cyrus, fine. I think she blows ass but she’s harmless. Shit, I even like Coldplay. But if you think Radiohead suck and the new track sucks then you need to turn off your FM radio for a few months and step outside your comfort zone by listening to something different. Unfortunately I think this is something that most average twits aren’t willing to do. It requires too much thinking as does most of Radiohead’s music.
So don’t sit there and tell me how bad Radiohead are when you’re listening to shit like Lil’ Wayne.

The new track is great! Has a lot of things going on sonically at the beginning. Sure the lyrics aren’t the most complex thing Thom and the boys have ever written but you know what? When Radiohead release a track or album, you know it’s them and it never sounds the same. If you want to make that arguement for U2 or even Coldplay, fine. But that’s what makes them unique and able to stand the test of time. All the shit hip-hop you all seem so keen on won’t be remembered in 5 years. Just like all the boy bands you used to listen to.
Enjoy your watered down FM radio, wankers!!!!

strawberry_jam | 8/18/2009, 4:18 pm EST

I like the song; you’re all little bitches.

alecoTO | 8/18/2009, 5:32 pm EST

Great song.

Some of these comments just scream “Welcome to the damned human race”. Ah well.

lil gil | 8/18/2009, 7:16 pm EST

some of this comments scream

welcome to radiohead fanboys era!

kim | 8/19/2009, 5:05 am EST

i’m dumbfounded by the amount of idiotic comments here. saying the band sucks without giving any reasonable explanation? how old are these people? 10?

the song is brill, by the way. wouldn’t expect anything less from this amazing band.

travhop | 8/19/2009, 10:10 am EST

this is hilarious.

you’re comparing a band that sounds like NOBODY else to the Muse, and all that shit.

grow up, Radiohead have some of the most mature writing styles out there right now.

and when people come on here and are like ‘radiohead suck, or man nickelback rule, radiohead can suck a dick’ that shit does NOT help, so keep that shit to yourself.

but i will say that nickelback are pretty terrible, same with fall out boy, hedley, and other shitty imposter bands.

Anonymous | 8/19/2009, 11:08 pm EST

Out Of This World Once Again !

Pork | 8/20/2009, 5:48 am EST

Wow, theres some serious dipshits here. If you dont like radiohead then what the fuck are you here whinging for?

Seriously, just fuck off to your pop forums and discuss your favourite beyonce songs with your fellow “hip” friends.

IMO this song is great, and is a sign of more awesome things to come from a truly remarkable band!

James from Houston | 8/20/2009, 4:00 pm EST

Reading these comments makes me very happy to see there are people out there who like Radiohead almost as much as I do!

Jesse | 8/20/2009, 10:00 pm EST

1) Radiohead is amazing
2) I don’t like this song
3) I dont think Radiohead will release this as a real song…it’s obviously not strong enough.

PMMF Custodian | 8/21/2009, 9:46 pm EST

Groovy soundscapes in this new one. Radiohead is like no other band.

stephen | 8/28/2009, 12:24 am EST

just finished up listening to horses… followed by this new radiohead tune. well, it’s nothing more then a workout. there is not a song here. i guess that’s why it’s not going on an album. pure publicity stunt. it sounds nice enough though.

Balaenoptera | 9/4/2009, 12:33 am EST

Found the song on their website. They let you download it for free. Not that complicated….
As for the song itself, it’s good, in a sort of creepy way

greysondie | 9/14/2009, 7:53 am EST

forcing power sulfate less

Skylar. | 9/14/2009, 12:11 pm EST

Excuse me, I’m fairly sure no song needs a “hook.” Nor a “melody.” A song needs developed lyrics. Hell, a song doesn’t even need a sense of direction. “Treefingers” from Kid A lacks any developed melody, yet somehow it remains one of my favourite Radiohead songs. And why is everyone slamming “Harry Patch (In Memory of)?” Greenwood composed it. He also composes for the BBC. He’s not some “beginner” composer. He knows what he’s doing. you, on the other hand, DON’T.

Think twice before you mess with our fan base. We are elitist snobs because we know what we’re talking about. Not sure about all of you.

Jon | 9/29/2009, 10:26 pm EST

Good on you Skylar.

Long live Radiohead!!!!!

Btw, this song is pretty damn awesome live, saw it on Youtube.
