Aerosmith Skip Winnipeg Gig, Tyler Breaks Shoulder in Stage Fall

8/7/09, 8:44 am EST

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has reportedly broken his shoulder and received some stitches in his head after falling off the stage while dancing during a concert in Sturgis, South Dakota. “[Tyler] hit his head and back. No concussion, stitches in head and back near shoulder. Broken shoulder,” Billie Perry, the wife of guitarist Joe Perry, wrote on her Twitter yesterday. “Yes he is very sore. We were all worried.” According to the band’s Aero Force One site, the band’s concert tonight at Winnipeg, Manitoba’s Canad Inns Stadium has been postponed.

The status of the rest of Aerosmith’s five-concert tour of western Canada has not yet been announced, but Billie Perry Tweeted that the band has traveled back to their native Boston. “Steven will see his own doctor tonight or tomorrow,” Billie Perry added. “No word on the tour when it will resume should know more very soon regarding this.”

After Tyler sustained his injuries, the band’s management initially said, “Steven Tyler did get a bit banged up and had to have a few stitches, but all Canadian dates are going on as planned,” the Winnipeg Free Press writes. However, Tyler’s doctor recommended that the band not perform in Winnipeg. According to the Free Press, the band is still expected to perform Sunday, August 9th in Regina, Saskatchewan.

As Rock Daily reported, Tyler’s fall in South Dakota is just the latest in a long list of health-related incidents that have struck the band during the latest tour. Guitarist Brad Whitford was forced to miss the opening dates of the tour after he bumped his head exiting his Ferrari, requiring surgery. Whitford’s return was delayed when Aerosmith postponed seven shows while Steven Tyler was recovering from a leg muscle injury. When Tyler and Whitford had finally returned to the fold, it was bassist Tom Hamilton who next missed time as he underwent “non-invasive” surgery.

They postponed in Virginia Beach. These guys are too old or too drunk to keep touring.

LOL

Dona | 8/7/2009, 10:01 am EST

It does seem like these incidents may be alcohol and or drug related. It is a good idea to know your limitations and admit when you get older that you have to care for your body better and take more precautions rather than party like it’s 1999. It is much harder and takes longer to bounce back after injuries the older you get and your body no longer has the flexability and reactions it had when you were under 40.
Take care of yourselves guys, we need you to keep us ROCKIN!

matt in farmers branch | 8/7/2009, 10:28 am EST

Ooof. A shoulder break would hurt like hell.

Old Fart | 8/7/2009, 10:31 am EST

I’m an old fart and these guys are as old as by dad… Great band put it’s time to SIT on a stool and play some acoustical stuff before you break a hip and spend the rest of your life in bed.

Anonymous | 8/7/2009, 10:43 am EST

He JUST got off a leg injury a month ago….I bet dollars to nuts he’s been back on something this last tour, or just real clumsy

Heidi | 8/7/2009, 10:48 am EST

If you said they are too old to keeo touring you have definately not seen the show! It is incredible! I am not an Aerosmith fan, but I saw the show and was in awe!!

Tyler Stevens | 8/7/2009, 10:54 am EST

Mr. Tyler…you are not Iggy Pop. Take it easy big fella. This whole tour has just been hillarious. If it ain’t one guy falling down, it’s another with some other problem. It’s just kind of pathetic.
I love ‘em but wow…maybe staying home is the best option at this point. Or how bout this…don’t undertake such a big tour. Play smaller venues over a few nights and take it slower!

WP | 8/7/2009, 10:55 am EST

eh, it doesn’t always have to be a drug problem when a performer takes a tumble. it’s bound to happen to the best of them atleast once.. I mean did you see the way he was spinning around etc. not suprised he lost his balance. I give him credit for moving like that at his age, but he needs to take it easy for the rest of the tour.

Joe | 8/7/2009, 10:57 am EST

His morphine and heroin should kill that pain right quick.

Jacked | 8/7/2009, 11:02 am EST

People…they are in their 60’s. Lay off with the comments about drugs and crap. They are old…that’s it. My goodness…

kcv | 8/7/2009, 11:03 am EST

maybe they can finish their new album, though no one seems to care on here, everyone is content hearing the same tired oldies, the late 80’s/early 90’s one are especially forgettable…..i love these guys but it’s getting to be comical isn’t it?

wrecksracer | 8/7/2009, 11:05 am EST

Maybe they should just perform seated from now on. Or surrounded by pillows. Maybe an on-stage doctor to monitor all of their vital signs.

ccjapan | 8/7/2009, 11:22 am EST

ZZ Top should take over as the headliners on this tour. Rev. Billy takes it slow and easy.

Glen | 8/7/2009, 11:29 am EST

I live in Winnipeg, so it sucks for alot of Winnipegers that were planning on going to the show tonight.

I’m not one of them, for their third show in five years $218 for a ticket is pathetic. You can still get row 2 on the floor here…

ed scott | 8/7/2009, 11:42 am EST

Maybe they should start singing
“Fall this way”

They just need to lose the catwalk that goes into the crowd… and stay on the main stage only.

Steven fell off the catwalk.

Anonymous | 8/7/2009, 11:47 am EST

I don’t know why everyone has to blame old age, booze or drugs every time someone famous does something like fall. He lost his frickin’ balance…the way he was jumping around that could happen when you’re totally sober…I know.I’ve seen them many many times in concert and they are amazing. Prayers to Steven…there are a lot more shows to play before they call it quits!

Jesus H. Christ MBE | 8/7/2009, 11:58 am EST

ed scott-you are a genius. You sublte play on words had me in such hysterics that I had a natural disaster in my swimming trunks. Well done, have a gold star. No Have 3 gold stars since its there 3 times. Oh yeah and its such a tragedy that Steven Tyler has reportedly broken his shoulder

Hey, copycat!

Greendale | 8/7/2009, 12:05 pm EST

That was just embarrassing….dancing around like an ass, then falling off the stage. To make it even worse, the crowd was eating that shit up.

green-monkey | 8/7/2009, 12:15 pm EST

anonymous you need to get out more, your comments are bland and pedantic.just like you. steven tyler is probably all coked up again. too bad.

Jesus H. Christ MBE | 8/7/2009, 12:25 pm EST

Hey “green-monkey”, whats wrong with being “coked up”. I was “coked up” once and I ended up meeting Chuck Mangione in the process. SO THERE!. I recokon he just fell cause he’s dumb. Although he does look a bit drunk.

my 2 cents | 8/7/2009, 12:35 pm EST

I can tell you, Steven Tyler is sober. I was backstage at a recent concert. Even his pain meds are non-narcotic. I saw them for myself. No joke.

He’s worked so hard to stay sober and he keeps getting injured. It has to be really difficult for him.

My prayers are with Steven Tyler and the band in these difficult times.

Touring is blistering hard work.

Anyone claiming that Steven fell because he was intoxicated is a blithering idiot. Believe that.

NN. | 8/7/2009, 1:56 pm EST

You all wish you could be that cool when your that age. He’s rock royalty living a life you only dream of. He’s an American Bad-Ass. Show some respect!

Poncho | 8/7/2009, 2:02 pm EST

Will you people shut the fuck up about saying that you’re praying for Steven Tyler. Prayers don’t do shit. He looked like he just took a little tumble. A younger guy would’ve got back up and took the stage again and continued performing. Time to hang it up Aerosmith. I’m sure Aerosmith has plenty of cash saved up by now that they no longer need to tour.

bunec | 8/7/2009, 2:23 pm EST

Ironic.. “singing love in an elevator” going up when Steve’s going down!! BOINK ha

Anonymous | 8/7/2009, 2:58 pm EST

Attention people with too much time on their hands(you know who you are:green monkey and the rest) I know for a FACT that Tyler is sober so get off your high horse. You wish you had an tenth of the talent Tyler has let alone the engery he has. Odds are you are a typical overweight 20 something with zero talent and no future. Aero happens to be one of the only Amreican bands that has stood the test of time putting out hit after hit.

And to the morons who think people just want to hear the bands classics from the 70’s let me say get your heads out of your asses. Aero has put out more hits since their comeback in the late 80’s then they ever did in the 70’s.

Sure, they are getting old but let’s see you do half of what they do when you wastes of life hit 40 let alone 60. Show some respect for one thing. And second, thank God there are still bands like Aerosmith out there showing the no talent-fix it in Pro Tools-loop it- and sell it as music so called bands out there how real rock is done.

Thief in the Orchard | 8/7/2009, 3:16 pm EST

How many fuckin times did Steven fall off stages during his loaded years with no injury? Gettin straight just doesn’t pay. Rock on old dudes!

Anonymous | 8/7/2009, 3:16 pm EST

He was doing the same old song and dance, but walked this way right off the stage. And now that he’s crying, the dude looks like a lady. Living on the edge of the stage, is hard on the knees, shoulder and head. He’s beat up like an old rag doll.

Dream on, if you think he’ll be back in the saddle again, cause the pain medicine will provide him with a sweet emotion. You’re crazy! It’s amazing this hasn’t happened sooner.

Time for Aerosmith to take a permanent vacation.

Anonymous | 8/7/2009, 3:21 pm EST

Its really hard to tell who is saying what when the name is Anonymous. Anyways I heard that it was an angry roadie that set a booby trap in order to injure him. This is just a rumour at this time though.

DOUGEBER | 8/7/2009, 4:05 pm EST

HEY STEVEN GET A GRIP, WALK THIS WAY, YOU’RE CRAZY.

Naysayer | 8/7/2009, 4:12 pm EST

Guess, Stevie forgot his walker that night. Senior citizens should not be dancing like that, they could get hurt. Maybe Steve could do the next “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” commercial. Yeah, that would be cool!

Patrick Chewing | 8/7/2009, 4:52 pm EST

As sure a sign as anything that it’s time to hang ‘em up, dude.

Jerry Ace | 8/7/2009, 5:54 pm EST

Who cares that he broke his arm or like whatever. Aerosmith are old and rubbish. If you want a good band who know how to ROCK IT UP then you should check out Metro Station. They r the most impotent band since the jonas brothers or Michael Jackson (RIP)

jump the sun | 8/7/2009, 7:17 pm EST

Wow, I’m amazed to read the ageist comments here. Yeah they’re old, they’ve been kicking ass for ages, they’ve done more than you could ever imagine in your pathetic little lives. So quit hating. And why should they call it quits? Are they the first band to have had a stroke of bad luck on tour? No! Keith Richards fell out of a coconut tree and hurt his head, to the point that he required surgery. A few weeks later, he was back on tour with the Stones like nothing ever happened. You guys should be grateful that bands from that era are still touring and making music, they’re the last of a dying breed (no pun intended) in a world where the Jonas Brothers are considered cool. Speaking of which, the idiot that compared the Jonas Bros to Michael Jackson needs to be in a mental ward. Because you have to be beyond insane to even mention MJ and the Jonas Bros in the same sentence.

STFU | 8/7/2009, 7:19 pm EST

It’s what this poser to Guitar Hero gets.

Anonymous | 8/7/2009, 7:26 pm EST

Wow, you people make me lose faith in rock n roll. Who cares if they are getting old, they still put on some of the most amazing performances. They are true rock n rollers. If you guys want to turn to younger bands who don’t know rock n roll from pop, be my guest and go listen to your metro station but leave real rock n roll to the professionals. Aerosmith will keep rockin!

tweaking bird | 8/7/2009, 7:59 pm EST

yo JUMP THE SON, whats wrong with mentioning jonas bros and mj in the same sentence. after all they are both manufactured crap made for the idiot masses to enjoy.

dmarkg | 8/7/2009, 11:01 pm EST

Aerosmith rocks. Metro Station is a Disco Band, not a Rock-N-Roll Band. They sound like Minudo or the Backdoor Boys.

jump the sun | 8/7/2009, 11:13 pm EST

@ tweaking bird:
Please say that out loud in public and see if you won’t get your ass kicked.

Anonymous | 8/8/2009, 3:20 am EST

The Jonas Brothers fucking suck. If you’re saying they’re better or more rockn’roll than Aerosmith you might as well be sucking your own dick.

Terry Kozak, South Detroit | 8/8/2009, 8:47 am EST

Christ, this is disappointing. Sad to see that Tyler took such a nasty fall. I’m looking forward to them hitting this area. Just got their new Toys in the Attic album, gaveit a spin on my record player and thought…wait, oh, this isn’t 1975.
What’s next, a review of the Head East album containing their hit “Never Been Any Reason?”

I’ll bet Joe Perry and Joey Kramer are afraid to move now. They’re the only ones that haven’t crashed and burned this tour…place your bets?

Paulover | 8/8/2009, 1:22 pm EST

Sorry stevy
Get better soon

Anonymous | 8/8/2009, 2:23 pm EST

Aerosmith went 30+ years with no real injuries…

Then 2008, Joe Perry endorses John McCain…

And now God is trying to kill the whole band.

This is McCain’s fault.

Jesus H. Christ MBE | 8/8/2009, 3:33 pm EST

yeah JUMP THE SUN, TWEAKING BIRD probably would get his ass kicked. He would get his ass kicked cause the majority of this country is obsessed with souless hacks who would rather do a f**king pepsi commercial than play from their GODDAM HEART!! Now goodbye, get fucked and go with Christ.

Mike | 8/8/2009, 7:43 pm EST

I hope things go well for ST.

loubert | 8/8/2009, 11:08 pm EST

The year is 2009, not 1974. Why are you people so obsessed with these nestolgia acts? These bands havent come out with any exiting ground breaking material in decade{s}. I had the misfourtune of going to an aerosmith concert once. It was filled with the same drunken degenerate fools as always. AEROSMITH FUCKIN ROCKS MAN!!!, was what the guy next to me mumbled before collapsing and spilling his beer all over me. Ohh yea i forgot to mention he pissed his pants too. I would have been kool with the spilling beer, and the pissing his pants if aerosmith really did rock, but there was nothing life changing or mind blowing about it. I go to 30 or 40 shows a year and they all rock more than aerosmith. They also dont have to rely on songs that were hits 30 years ago to put on a desent show. And im not talking about the freaking jonas bros

Kelly Foxx | 8/9/2009, 1:50 am EST

I really hope Steven gets better soon. Aerosmith is definitely one of the greatest rock n’ roll bands of all time, and even 39 years after their formation, they still kick ass! Sure, they aren’t as good as they were thirty years ago, but no one is. Fuck you, Loubert.

Rik | 8/9/2009, 9:27 am EST

It’s pretty funny to me that one of the other guys in the band hit his head “exiting his ferrari” and had to have surgery.

TheDrummer | 8/9/2009, 11:15 am EST

i really hope this isnt the end of the band. i hope steve heals fast and well and i hope the tour finishes successfully with no more delays and i hope the new album is successful as well. long live aero!!!

loubert | 8/9/2009, 1:25 pm EST

whats wrong kelly? it seems like were making up more then we are making love. Girl you have to change your crazy ways. I think that was a bit harsh there miss foxx. Ive seen aerosmith Joe Perry is far from the guitar god u people make him out to be. The time of glitsy glamourous front men are far behind us. Do You think Aerosmith waited so long to put out this album because they care about making a quality product. I think its because they dont give a shit about making new innovative music. They know all they have to do is team up with another band with a big name {ZZ top} and simple people such as yourself would come in the thousands. I was just trying to help you people out, go see medeski martin and wood and you will have a far better time.

daddycat | 8/9/2009, 3:21 pm EST

It is time to spend some of that money that they work so hard for.The band should retire. They made some of the best partying music off all time. But they wont cause they love to play.TYLER should just take a vacation smoke some good weed get some good pain meds hydros or oxys. But this time keep a good eye on him so he doesnt over due it.

Well Now! | 8/9/2009, 3:49 pm EST

Hello Everybody…whether you like or not! You are stuck with me! Such wonderful compliments are being assigned to all of you. Your not alone. Try being me? Shoulder down, so what! Shake it off. Because you can.Tom is healed , Joe is healed, Joey is doing fine, and Brad is healed. Blessing after blessing. You come first! Tour dates can be rescheduled. Shoulders heal, toes heal, stiches can and will be removed, and you never have sounded better Aerosmith. You most definitely have alot of juice left!!! Pina Colada time. me. Love to pieces.

supernova | 8/10/2009, 1:46 am EST

me and my friends drove 8 hours, and blew a shit load of money to go see them in Winnipeg, half way there we get a phone call saying that the show was canceled… BRUTAL! (turned out to be a solid weekend though)

Eh | 8/13/2009, 5:46 pm EST

Aerosmith sucks. crappy music. and should never be played. FUCK YOU AEROOO

twistingbacchus | 8/17/2009, 9:55 am EST

After this fall in Sturgis, it looks as if Tyler will no longer at the present time be clean & sober .The drug companies will rake in a fortune after doctors put him on pain meds!!!! Can you say Sister Morphine????
