Change-maker or overeager compromiser? The new issue of Rolling Stone, out today, features a roundtable of leading political observers — David Gergen, Paul Krugman and Michael Moore — assessing the first six months of Barack Obama’s presidency. The full story appears on newsstands, but “Report Cards” on Obama’s victories and blunders regarding economic recovery, health care, the environment and education are available here:

Obama So Far

Also in this issue: Jeff Goodall interviews America’s foremost climate-change expert, James Hansen. Plus, how Blink-182 survived their bitter breakup and an extraordinary look at the life of cantankerous drummer Ginger Baker, who is currently living in a gated compound in South Africa.

Plus six artists to watch (including Drake and Little Boots), the latest on the battle over Michael Jackson’s estate, on the road with Green Day, and Rob Sheffield reviews the Arctic Monkeys’ Humbug. For a full rundown of Issue 1085, check out the table of contents and stay tuned for our online exclusives.

Gergen,Krugman and Moore…..sure to be a balanced piece….NOT!!

Jeff | 8/5/2009, 8:04 pm EST

Gergen, Krugman, and Michael Moore.

Hmmm…which of those names does not belong there?

I like Michael Moore but asking David Gergen to sit at a rountable with Michael Moore is like asking Paul McCartney to go onstage with Limp Bizkit.

I’m a super-liberal, lifelong Dem.

I voted for Owebama.

Not again.

He’s for the rich and big business.

At least the Rep.s say their for big business.

Since they both are, next time I’m voting for the truth-tellers

First of all, the notion that Obama was a champion of the progressive left was a lie that Republicans used to fundraise and we all bought it. He is a moderate.

Secondly, I’m so leftist I’m practically a Sandinista at this point, but I’m with Jeff. Michael Moore is to Paul Krugman what Madonna is to.. Paul Krugman. Yeah he worked at Mother Jones or whatever, but his work is far from bullet proof, intellectually.

Anyone read it yet? Then shut up.

erik | 8/6/2009, 3:47 pm EST

why is obama on the cover. This is his thrid since he began running.

How about Wilco?! they are one of the biggest bands in the states just released a new album and are taking the music industry by storm.

Rollingstone is so fucking clueless. Im sure after this Miley Cyris or some american idol runner up will be on the cover.

This last year has made me completely despise this fucking magazine. If it didnt say rollingstone on the cover no one would by the garbage they try to sell us.

I have nothing agaisnt obama, but i would rather see a great band on the cover instead of a politician or a tween pop idol.

BK | 8/6/2009, 3:55 pm EST

I can’t wait to see what a hero RS thinks Obama is after his 4 year term. I don’t think he will be on the cover them.

more messianic worship of their saviour.

Jymn | 8/7/2009, 9:24 am EST

After eight years of hell, death and debt, America needs Obama. The brainwashing that caused Americans to piss away trillions of dollars on a useless war now are whining because Obama is working to dig the country out of debt and built its image abroad so that other nations will help the USA when it really needs them. Where were the shouting, ignorant Americans who now shout down town halls when Bush was dragging the country into hell?
