Fricke’s Picks: High Holy Daze

8/4/09, 10:37 am EST

“Please check the contents of your head,” singer-bassist Steve Kilbey of the Church announced in his slow-rolling-wave baritone during the Australian band’s New York gig on July 8th. “Items may have shifted during flight.” Only for the better. For nearly 30 years, the Church’s heavenly-treble raptures — driven by charter guitarists Peter Koppes and Marty Willson-Piper — have been one of rock’s most dependable and still-evolving trips. The set list that night captured the constancy and mutation, going deep into the gothic-Byrds peal of 1982’s The Blurred Crusade amid the stately-reverb suspense of “Deadman’s Hand” and the creeping-pop poise of “Pangaea,” both from the new untitled #23 (Second Motion). A hypnotic enigma of measured pace and mounting-ring dynamics, the album is, in fact, the group’s 23rd — a genuine milestone in longevity and psychedelic invention.

Why fight for something that is not yours. Michael has invested so much for his children, and if he says that his mother should be the caregiver or guardian then be it. I’ve been a fan of Michael despite coming from a small island in the Pacific Islands close to Guam, USA. I enjoyed and love all his music just like millions of people out there and in thousands of countries adore his talent, passion to music and choreographies. He is truly the KING OF POP. He is so different from many stars whom I admire because of their creativity and I don’t give a shit what others say. They deserve to be place on the pedastal for their love for the art. If people out there do not or despise Michael for being such an instrumental to children, youths, adults, and senior citizens of all races. Again, I am just amaze of Michael’s remarkable talent and I hope that there will be a foundation that will help and support those kids with superb talent in music and dance especially those that are less fortunate or coming from a low income families. People that are selfish and like to be negative about the goodness of those that influences others in a good way do not deserve to listen to any music at all or live on this great god’s earth. We as people are supposed to care and love other human raise and not destroy them. If they are not hurting you then don’t make any hurtful feelings toward any one or any artist that are doing what they feel is best for them. They work super hard to be where they at so praise or commend.

Like Michael, Modonna, Prince, Cher, Britney, Whitney, Beyonce, Selena, Jennifer Lopez for their hard work and talent to the art and influences to others especially our youths. WE all need to express ourselves as humans. If you don’t like then beat it.

Thank you and god bless and may you reset in peace Michael. We sure going to miss you so so much.

I firmly believe that the Executors of Mr. Michael Jackson’s Estate should be more transparent to the decedent’s mom, Mrs. Katherine Jackson. She has every right know every transaction pertaining to her son’s, Mr. M.J. Jackson’, estate. The Will clearly stated that his mom should receive 40% of his estate, his children 40% and remaining 20 % to be given to charities {of his choice}. Mr. Branca and his team may not realize how insensitive and blatantly impertinent they are acting towards Mrs. Jackson; the decedents own flesh and blood. She recently lost her son. So, why are they keeping her in the dark? What do they have to conceal?

In short, one could denote by their actions that something underhanded is going on. Is it, Mr. Branca? How would Mr. Branca and his partners react to someone usurping their authority over their mothers’ Estate and not divulge or consult with them about the current status of the assets? We the public are pleading with the Executors to be more forthcoming—Mr. Jackson’s mom requires our prayers and supports during this time of sorrow—not arrogance.

May God Bless you, Mrs. Jackson, and your loved ones—you are in our thoughts and prayers.

In His Service

What the hell do these brainwashed comments on Micheal Jackson have anything to do with David Fricke’s piece on The Church??? Is this a web fluke? Please move the comments……..

Thank you David for your piece on one of the best bands in the world.

The only connection between The Church and Michael Jackson that I can think of is an interview I remember from the time The Church were recording “Starfish” and one of the band members said the working title for the album was “Good”… ;-)

I too say thanks to David Fricke for his article/choice of The Church. Tim Powles deserves a mention as well. His drumming is absolutely amazing on the new album!! And I really love this album!
