Trent Reznor has made a brief return to social networking, hitting up the safe confines of his NIN.com message boards to tell fans why he left the savage world of Twitter. As Rock Daily previously reported, Reznor unceremoniously deleted his Twitter account a few weeks back with no explanation. Prior to the deletion, Reznor talked about ditching Twitter because, simply, “Idiots rule.” As Reznor reiterated in his NIN.com post, it was the trolling that made Twitter insufferable for him and caused the sudden end of @trent_reznor.

“Yes, I deleted my account and I’ll explain why since somehow someone apparently thinks this is newsworthy,” Reznor writes. (Ed. Note: Guilty.) “Around the time news broke of my engagement, a faction of troublemakers showed up whose sole intent was to disrupt, harass, insult and incite.” Reznor recently announced his engagement to West Indian Girl singer Mariqueen Mandaag, and writes that his Twitter was reply-spammed with harassing responses — everything from racist slurs to wishes he would overdose. “YES — I could (and did) block them,” he notes, “but everyone else reading my replies sees ALL of that nonsense.” Reznor goes on to write that the faulty Replies function, or the @, allowed for a constant spamming that eventually inundated his account.

But the real breaking point came following the death of Eric De La Cruz, a fan for whom Reznor helped raise nearly a million dollars to fund a heart transplant. Reznor pinpoints one person who wrote “someone got balls at last! Hey, can I have some of that #Eric money? The dude’s dead, he doesn’t need it lol.” Since all #Eric posts appear on the WeLoveEric Website, Reznor had to explain to De La Cruz’s sister Veronica that that’s the sad state of Twitter.

“It depresses me to think my art and life’s work can attract this kind of scum, and trying to explain to Veronica why someone would stoop to that level of ignorance for attention — and it’s someone that because of me is in her world causing her pain… well, it sucks,” Reznor writes. “If that was your intention you trolling, cowardly pigs — you’ve succeeded.”

In other NIN news, Trent reiterated that just because this is the final Nine Inch Nails tour, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of Nine Inch Nails. Rather, “I am NOT stopping making music or working on things — NIN is just not touring anymore. Nin.com will remain active and alive with lots of updates planned,” Reznor writes.

I’m not defending the lifeless trolls out there, but technically that mess WAS your own fault. 1) You should pretty much know by now that social networking sites aren’t always rainbows and puppies, especially when everyone can say what they feel like with no repercussions and under the guise of anonymity. 2)You fanned the flame by stooping to those trolls’ level and launching derogatory remarks against overweight chicks and even offering advice on how to commit suicide. 3)Up until you announced your engagement, no one really cared for your personal life. But once you put it out there, you opened yourself to criticism, no matter how harsh and undeserved it may be. You didn’t need personal experience to know that, look at the countless celebrities who flaunt themselves to the media and how it comes back to bite them in the ass big time. One thing I will agree though, is the trolls using the Eric De La Cruz situation to launch their personal attacks. That poor boy had nothing to do with your Twitter war, and making fun of his death is BEYOND cowardly. I’m not a personal fan of Reznor, but at least he was using his status to help someone who was in need, so I don’t understand why someone would harbor hatred against that.

DoubleS | 7/31/2009, 11:07 am EST

I can’t say I blame Trent. I’ve been on twitter for a few months the only reason I stay on there is to communicate with a few friends.

Sometimes I get physically ill when I see what people write.

Haters need to get a life, look at themselves, and stop spreading their venom!

Narcissism at its finest | 7/31/2009, 11:59 am EST

I think it’s hysterical that Reznor is talking about how amused he is that people think this Twitter thing is newsworthy. Hey Trent-you were responsible for making it newsworthy, and I don’t buy for one second that this wasn’t orchestrated by him. He seems to have a pub addiction-can’t stay out of the press for longer than about 30 seconds or he gets lonely. How about this Trent-worry about recording a great album-it’s been awhile!

The 90s are over | 7/31/2009, 12:22 pm EST

Oh Please!, the guy who;s been trashing every single artist out there for the las 2 years!

A washed out artist that tough that twitter will give him any street credit:

“Wait, this thing is not working, may be if I trash some geniuses like Radiohead, Prince and more I will get some attention”

Be happy Trent don’t complaint just for the sake of it, the 90s are over.

misshapen melon | 7/31/2009, 12:25 pm EST

trent reznor smart. his fans stoopid. his fans work at gas stations. his fans smash are inbread. twitter duckspeak. shithead. all timesuck. ugh.

ugh | 7/31/2009, 12:28 pm EST

ugh. trent reznor smart. meatle heads stoopid and inbread. all work at gas stations. twiiter their speak. ugh. grunt.

R n' R | 7/31/2009, 12:37 pm EST

Trent bashed on people just like people bashed on him and those around him, all via Twitter. Human nature?

Manners people, have some manners.

Jonalisette | 7/31/2009, 1:06 pm EST

The NET is the LOWEST common denominator for human social interaction. When some humans are anonymous, they feel free to speak up. If they were not spineless cowards, there would be a lot less dirt-speak on the net. They would need to stand behind their words. It goes with the “mob mentality” as well. I thought it was mostly blue collar Americans but it is all around the world. Sad. But apparently quite “human”.

twitterwatchdog.com | 7/31/2009, 1:10 pm EST

Can you say, Where’s the cheese for that “Whine”?

Can’t we all just get a long and have FUN?!?!

hiab-x | 7/31/2009, 1:26 pm EST

He did the right thing getting out when he did, the internet , brilliant as it is, also underlines the sheer incomprehensible volume of morons spread around the globe.

Annie | 7/31/2009, 2:00 pm EST

Oh, god, Trent. Shut up, already. Go away while you have a shred of dignity left. I can’t understand why Rolling Stone continues to report on every temper tantrum this pathetic idiot throws. He’s so far gone, he doesn’t even realize he’s turned into a bad joke. Wave goodbye and please stay gone.

Mel | 7/31/2009, 2:03 pm EST

Amy Wyman- People were trolling the girlfriends account before they announced the engagement. Things just escalated from there.

This had been entertaining for a while then became disturbing. I would just rather listen to the music.

rivers | 7/31/2009, 2:23 pm EST

What’s wrong with all the haters. How can you say he’s far gone, when his ghosts album and the touring was highly successful. Go back and listen to your Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana and stupid RnB and HipHop Stars. Guess what nobody knows them outside the U.S., while all the NIN shows over the world are sold out.

Anonymous | 7/31/2009, 2:25 pm EST

“…why someone would stoop to that level of ignorance for attention…”

sounds like trent’s entire twitter history right there.

MrsBalser | 7/31/2009, 2:34 pm EST

I’m reminded of that old saw “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” Obvious Twitter is too much for Trent Reznor’s delicate sensibilties. Can he really be that stupid? It’s the INTERNET. It abounds with weirdos, psychos, racists, homophobes, creeps, freaks, human garbage of all kinds. You mean to say he DIDN’T KNOW that? Did he actually think that he, being who he is, would be treated with the utmost respect and gentleness and love? It boggles the mind that he would be surprised at the way people reacted to him. He created a dark image to entice a certain segment of the population to buy his music and see him in concert and then horrifies his fan base by revealing himself to be a lovesick boob with the maturity and temperament of a 12 year old girl. Why wouldn’t he think that would provoke a strong reaction from fans (or former fans) were were shocked at finding out their idol is in reality a big, fat, whiny dork? Reznor needs to shut the fuck up. The more he talks the more he makes an utter ass of himself. I hope he takes his beloved and goes off to live on a desert island somewhere, never to be seen or heard from again. Those two truly deserve each other.

GG | 7/31/2009, 2:37 pm EST

“…why someone would stoop to that level of ignorance for attention…”

sounds like trent describing his own twittering.

GG | 7/31/2009, 2:49 pm EST

sorry for that repeat. trent please just take a break. we need to focus on other 90’s artist now. like the spin doctors and that macarena guy.

BK | 7/31/2009, 3:07 pm EST

Twitter is the most trendy, lame and over-hyped thing ever. There is already a huge backlash agaist twitter. Trent was wise to get off this stupid platform.

Bob | 7/31/2009, 3:19 pm EST

As posts here indicate, idiots still rule.

Michael | 7/31/2009, 3:24 pm EST

“As Rock Daily previously reported, Reznor unceremoniously deleted his Twitter account a few weeks back with no explanation. Prior to the deletion, Reznor talked about ditching Twitter because, simply, ‘Idiots rule.’”

For one thing, it sounds like why I abandoned American politics during 2004.
Secondly, the internet areas that idiots don’t rule are few and far between.

Fail | 7/31/2009, 3:33 pm EST

Sorry Trent

whatever | 7/31/2009, 3:49 pm EST

God, shut up Trent, you whiny little bitch. Stop being an asshole then maybe people won’t throw it back at you. Go fuck yourself, seriously dude.

whatever | 7/31/2009, 3:49 pm EST

Oh, and YOU are scum. Like attracts like. Remember that.

Erik | 7/31/2009, 4:07 pm EST

It’s nothing groundbreaking that anonymity via the internet brings out some of the more nasty sides of human nature. Personally I try to ignore such comments but I can understand him being angry at such ignorance at sensitive issues.

god | 7/31/2009, 4:17 pm EST

what?

Rotted-Out | 7/31/2009, 4:53 pm EST

No one has cared about Rezy since The Downward Spiral. He is all rotted-out.

Anonymous | 7/31/2009, 5:00 pm EST

It’s kind of ironic having a bunch of people writing negative comments about an article about Reznor not writing anymore twitter posts.

that time | 7/31/2009, 5:34 pm EST

we went almost a week this time without trent winning about something. I used to love his work, but he is the first artist that I ever really enjoyed that made me not be able to stand his music because you cannot go 7 days without hearing something stupid come out of his mouth. Trent discovering the internet was not a good thing.

GG | 7/31/2009, 6:15 pm EST

“ironic.” exactly my thoughts anonymous. that of course brings to mind alainis morrisette. like trent another fabulous 90’s artist.

THIS IS 2009! | 7/31/2009, 6:58 pm EST

Funny that Trent fans defended him by accusing people of listen to the Jonas Bros.
Like if we din’t have Arcade Fire, Radiohead, MGMT, Wolfmother, Dead Weather, M.I.A., there’s something called evolution, some of you NIN fans might be stuck on the 90s defending a washed out artist, but on the real world Trent just turn into the 90s version of Elton Jhon, a once talented old farg with lots of money and lost of time on the web.

Alternative rules, right.

Ryan | 7/31/2009, 7:12 pm EST

The man helped raise nearly 1 million dollars for a hospitalized friend. He used his fame for something useful and not just to promote MTV. He is a good man that works his ass off to entertain us and you morons are insulting a man that has accomplished more than you ever will in the music industry… Not mention as well in life.

Stronger | 7/31/2009, 7:58 pm EST

Exactly, I’m sick of idiots saying “why don’t you go listen to the Jonas brothers” as a defense each time someone mentions that NIN suck. Believe it or not, music does not begin and end with Trent Reznor. He’s not even that good. Totally over-hyped and overrated, I don’t understand how critics could label him a genius. Practically any indie band is lightyears ahead of Trent’s mediocre band. He shouldn’t just stop touring, he might as well hang up the NIN project altogether, cause I don’t think it will affect people like the Beatles breaking up.

NINfan81 | 7/31/2009, 7:59 pm EST

People can be so disgusting. And just because Trent emerged from the 90s and had huge success in that decade, doesn’t mean that he isn’t still relevant. His studio work is more polished, more exciting and unconventional than ever.

Neil | 7/31/2009, 9:11 pm EST

Can’t wait to see you perform Trent, in Araneta this coming week.

Reznor=whiny little girl | 7/31/2009, 9:39 pm EST

Trent you ignorant slut.

DrewBlood | 7/31/2009, 10:07 pm EST

Why is it that all you morons can’t appreciate an artist from one decade to the next Trent’s music is evolving and is still relevant just as much as any other band out there Wolfmother Arcade fire Radiohead are all very good as well and I’m sure they will be in 20 years if they make it that long. Trent will continue to create and will have an opinion just like you idiots !!!

Andre | 7/31/2009, 10:28 pm EST

I just can’t understand what kind of people are writing here, even if you don’t like Trent Reznor or his work, he tried to save the life of a human being. What about you all, what have you done to help someone in need??

Leonardo | 7/31/2009, 11:31 pm EST

Sadly…there are only 3 good artists worth in the world for a long time: Axl Rose, Trent Reznor and Bruce Springsteen

Bekah | 8/1/2009, 12:16 am EST

yeah, twitter is pretty lame.

Joe | 8/1/2009, 12:36 am EST

Twitter is so stupid anyway. I’m glad Trent left. In 6 months or so, Twitter probably be labeled as a “lame” thing for artists to have anyway. Good for Trent. Can’t wait to hear his new music and can’t wait to see his other non-musical upcoming projects!

ARTWANKER | 8/1/2009, 12:44 am EST

Axl Rose and Trent Reznor are cool. Look at all of you twats. Pretty soon there won’t be anyone left in the poxy American music scene…anyone worth anything will have ditched, rather than beat themselves up for you lame-asses.

A Westy | 8/1/2009, 1:42 am EST

Some people are just horrible. I mean, why people just attack people on social networking sites amazes me.

auramac | 8/1/2009, 4:32 am EST

Sadly, it’s not just Twitter. It’s not just the internet, either. It’s an ugly world, a dumbed-down, racist, hate-filled society we live in. A lot of dysfunction. Look at who we make celebrities, what our priorities are. Listen to what popular music has become. See what people are doing to their bodies- piercing, inking, waxing away their shame or mutilating it. These are not great times to be alive in,

Fozzie Bear | 8/1/2009, 1:09 pm EST

Trent looks like he’s injecting steroids right into his face.

NINfan81 | 8/1/2009, 3:07 pm EST

(sigh) Message boards: the worst form of human communication/interaction that has ever emerged. Why the hell do I bother?

Justin | 8/1/2009, 5:04 pm EST

While I’m not a huge fan of NIN(I like some of the stuff) I commend people like Trent for doing anything charitable and to think that some loser would find humor in that situation is beyond despicable. There are plenty of artists I like and plenty I don’t but talking trash online for attention is moronic.

Teddy | 8/1/2009, 5:27 pm EST

Who can take what anyone types online seriously? If writing offensive jokes and slurs makes you a coward, does kissing ass make you brave?

NIN sucks | 8/1/2009, 7:53 pm EST

Another call to his minions to back him up and go after another person/company Reznor hates. Of course, the emo fans fell for it. AndreaUrbanFox RETWEET of someone else. Trent, get your facts straight. And my my, Bloated Reznor thinks everyone wants to date him. By the way, Reznor lost many fans with the whole overweight, suicide tips rant. I am on ETS and NIN.COM. We do not all love Reznor over there. We post, then we make fun of Reznor. Why? Because he opened the door.

MistressReznor | 8/1/2009, 8:28 pm EST

Amazing the insulting & degrading comments being left about Trent & NIN on a story about him… if you morons dislike him so much then why are you reading about him in the first place??? You don’t want to hear him ‘whine’??? Then don’t read about him… to me you pretty much have to choose to go to an article about him & then read it… you dislike him that much GO AWAY… don’t read it

KramkonG | 8/1/2009, 11:57 pm EST

NIN sucks: just curious as to why you would frequent NIN.com as a non-fan of Mr. Trent? Tell you what, I’m not a fan of McDonald’s but you don’t see me sitting in the drive-through lane ordering burgers an not paying for them. Got a bit ‘o’ time? Then read a book or enroll at ITT Tech and try and assist society, butter-shorts.

KramkonG | 8/2/2009, 12:11 am EST

NIN sucks: get your whitey-tighty’s out of their bundle and answer me this: why do you continue to visit the NIN.com site if you are so displeased with Mr. Trent? AND, if you are so enamored by Twitter, I sure hope your personal page is producing worthy material/conversation…OR you can delete your own Twitter and make a living spouting trash on RSonline…either way, enjoy!

KramkonG | 8/2/2009, 12:13 am EST

and yes, I post more than one response on the same subject…nobody is immune to idiocy/NIN sucks.

lila | 8/2/2009, 3:16 am EST

wildcat767
on slash that website

rivers | 8/2/2009, 6:30 am EST

mosts of the critics here say that reznor fans only like nin. That’s not true. I love NIN and Radiohead because they are true artists. All their albums are different and great. Listen to the Fragile and Kid A. They are amazing, and in my opinion one of the best records in the last 20 years. By the way their live performances are really cool. Go to youtube and watch some of the Lights in the sky live clips and don’t tell me this isn’t great. And there are so many other great bands out there like RHCP deus Muse Arcade fire Portugal. the man the dead weather QOTSA White Stripes. so most of my favourite bands are from the 90s, but this doesn’t mean they are far gone. This only means that they have a true fan base.

zbizboug | 8/2/2009, 7:41 am EST

It all started with psycho fans insulting his girlfriend on Twitter. His Majestys then stooped on the same level and started insulting them back, giving out to the public the real names of psychofan trolls, pointing them out so his more rabid fanbase could start stalking and spamming them. Along the way he managed to insult all his obese female fans, half apologizing a bit later, saying he only ment the obese trolls (great move that). He offered vein cutting advice to said obese trolls. Etc., etc…
Can anybody imagine, say, David Bowie engaging in such classy interaction with the online comunity?

Kittycatastrophe | 8/2/2009, 9:33 am EST

@NIN sucks:

I was initially supportive of Reznor and MQ when they received hate-filled/troll messages but that support quickly ended. I watched them engage “idiots on the Internet” and then play the victim card without a hint of irony and because of that I have not been to nin.com or ETS in quite awhile; I reserve my comments for sites like this. I don’t understand why people who have a problem with Reznor’s bratty boy antics would continue to visit sites that support him without question. Like my mom says, “If you can’t get along…separate.”

Tweedo | 8/2/2009, 9:39 am EST

Who gives a fuck about Trent Reznor? This guy always have something to talk about. Never says nothing.

Jamess | 8/2/2009, 10:20 am EST

Who, what…….oh wake me when it is someone that matters, saying something that matters.

Lenny | 8/2/2009, 12:20 pm EST

Someone should tell El Trento and the teeming outraged masses in this thread that the horrible! hateful! cowardly! inhuman! demonic! I mean howcantheyDOthatsomeoneshouldc allthePOLICE!!!! pesky trolling types are quite often kids in their early teens insincerely posting anything to get a reaction. Because that is what children that age do. Twitter is their magnifying glass and Reznor is their busy little sizzling ant.

Joe | 8/2/2009, 12:38 pm EST

People like you guys with the negative comments is why humanity is so fucking pathetic. You will get your’s eventually.

Joe | 8/2/2009, 12:50 pm EST

and when you’re seriously suffering, think back to this or anything else you said or did, don’t even complain about it, because you should know why.

It's true | 8/2/2009, 1:15 pm EST

Best (and more real) comment so far:

“Funny that Trent fans defended him by accusing people of listen to the Jonas Bros.

Alternative rules, right.”

zbizboug | 8/2/2009, 2:24 pm EST

Joe, most ppl posting on here are Trent’s fans, even those with negative comments. and there’s a lesson to be learned somewhere in those messages. personally I agree with what Amy Wyman and Kittycatastrophe wrote

BartVanHemelen | 8/2/2009, 3:09 pm EST

You’re missing the point of this. Trent committed a reckless act. Because a fan tweeted something mildly negative to him, he revealed her personal, private information. He also slandered her with false accusations. This is not acceptable behavior for anyone, let alone Trent Reznor. His poor judgment has harmed someone. He continues to act in this reckless manner with slur after slur after slur against fans. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

The Facts | 8/2/2009, 7:00 pm EST

The real point here is, Trent is not IN with new crowd, his not hip or cool with the new generation, in the same form and matter that Michael Jackson wasn’t hip or cool on the NIN generation (the 90s), he doesn’t even had any relevance on today music world.

This is the way Pop culture works, like it or not, there’s a reason why what he say’s and what’s he do is against this generation values, ideas and achievments.

So you might be a hardcore Trent fan, you might be a harcore alternative music geek, you grow up during the 90’s, but NIN is not on the playlists of the 00’s, alternative music is outdated and we’re livin in a new millenium.

So if the NIN fans are recurring to comment on the Jonas Brothers to defended NIN music, they might be turning into the new deadheads, stubborn old guys that don’t want to grow up. I mean this generation is looking at you as the same way you use to look at the 80’s generation. Like a ridiculous, bitter, hopless generation, who still think that been mad at the world is a rebelious act.

XXXNINFANXXX | 8/2/2009, 7:38 pm EST

This whole Twitter mess HAS changed my mind about Reznor. And I really am disinclined to follow his work now that I know he’s an utter jackass and a whiner. Not that this really makes much of a difference, With Teeth blew as did his ambient-music-done-wrong album. (The Slip might be OK to people who haven’t been following ambient for years, but to me, it was derivative and pretty third rate.) Year Zero was just unlistenable. Still, I might have at least been mildly curious about his new offerings before he flipped his shit on Twitter. Not enough people stand up against a vindictive celeb with a legion of nutty fans.

Seeing this new side of Reznor is way more sleezy and entertaining than the Year Zero ad campaign. It was funny to see Mariqueen focus all her attention on shopping and TR’s BH mansion and not her love or knowledge of TR once the engagement went public. It was interesting that Reznor tweeted about buying a truck load of viagra.

WeResist | 8/2/2009, 7:43 pm EST

I do understand what Trent Reznor is saying here. He’s right, not only Twitter is the website with this issue but there are many people that are trolls that just go on there and bash others so they can find a reaction. And most of them are teenagers obviously but some of them may be older.

I do agree with what Trent Reznor did, he deleted his Twitter account because he feel he didn’t need to deal with that BS, and he shouldn’t have to. I love the part when Trent says:”Yes, I deleted my account and I’ll explain why since somehow someone apparently thinks this is newsworthy…”. Hilarious, so true, people are making a huge deal of this and Trent even seems to agree this is something small.

dresden doll | 8/2/2009, 9:23 pm EST

well NIN fans have always been known for being disruptive and bullies especially with the opening acts for NIN on tour. Guess this time all that crap flew back to the man himself!

cara | 8/3/2009, 12:19 am EST

You are doing a great job. THANK YOU! I would love to see you.

cara | 8/3/2009, 12:22 am EST

trent,

thank you for leaving twitter.

Stop livin on the 90s | 8/3/2009, 12:44 am EST

Oh! Trent your so rebel, your so alternative.

When NIN was on it’s pic moment, CD’s were the cool thing, rock festivals rule the planet and been sad and angry was hip.

Now digital music kick a***, Twitter rules and been happy is hiper then been a rebel poser.

My guess is that Trent it’s so out of touch!

Meg H. | 8/3/2009, 3:53 am EST

This is so unexpected that I think the whole community is still reeling. He is so not what a lot of us thought he was based on how he presented himself that no one has been able to process it yet. To think that the guy who’s spent years calling out the industry and every shallow person in it is just as stupid, shallow and inane – well, that takes some getting used to. Reznor’s financee is vapid, mean and seems to take off her clothes for any kind of attention.

Dr. D | 8/3/2009, 4:26 am EST

I as a psych major can attest most of the poor reactions and behaviors these “people” exhibit are from their insecurities that may well stem from their own disappointment and let downs with “faith in fellow man” and it only shows there ignorance to not seeing them selves repeating their own Victim / Tormentor game .
Sadly this is a very strong sign of what the rest of there lives and relationships will look like .

? | 8/3/2009, 4:44 am EST

I’m taken aback that anyone was at all surprised to find out that Trent was a smart-assed , sometimes silly , sometimes negative and bitchy kind of guy . I mean what else could you possibly balance his catharses of anger and constant disappointment with ?
No one is one diminutional except social paths and they are just …. empty .

I kinda figured that would be obvious to people and I can’t blame him for wanting to have some distance from it .
It proves that he has been for real all his career .

Lowell Hein | 8/3/2009, 9:35 am EST

I saw Trent in West Palm Beach recently, and found it interesting that he left the stage after his “farewell tour” without even a “c-ya” (Cuz he was mad about his sound system..)He’s a whiner and a self-styled bad boy, who many of us made rich….Oh, I forgot…He’s just a musician…I a hundred years…he will be forgotten. Time for me to go practice some Bach and Torroba for guitar..Bye Trent!

I'm a nine inch nails fan | 8/3/2009, 11:03 am EST

I’ve read all these post and all I can say is WTF!, regarding his personal life, he’s just a person just like you and me. He puts himself out there for his fans, to interact in a different way and he got good and bad responses(just like in the real world), maybe was a mistake to get closer to fans in this manner. Some fans can’t take it or don’t know how to behave or don’t know how to interact. These fans are way too much into his life and what he does or does not do, or how he replies, etc… you get the point.

Fan or not if I get insulted or harassed in the online world I will react just like I would in the real world. Furthermore, he is an artist, he creates music and if he hits it big and popular thats just a side effect of the art and the profits are well deserved. I will buy his music because I like his music. Who gives a F**** if its popular? or if its in the charts?

Trent also has the right to put down who ever he wants just as he has the right to help anybody he wants. Like I said before he is just a person. More artist or people with clout should help society or people in need in some way. This is a good thing.

You people need to learn how to interact with the artist and his music and separate the BS that result when an artist has problems with CRAZY obsessed fans. Grow up. Is this really more important than the music.

Hmmm | 8/3/2009, 11:09 am EST

Isn’t this old news? Get over it, and move on. Why are trolls still harping over this?

Anna | 8/3/2009, 11:49 am EST

Trent appears to be a nice man, however maybe he could get out into the big non-musical world now and again. There’s a whole exciting world out there. Do something incredibly outrageous like go backpacking around the Australian outback or something, there no one will know or care who he is… possibly a few Aboriginal people or not. I am an acute medical nurse and experienced mental health nurse; thats at times really stressful and challenging, and one is literally saving or at least extending lives. Nevermind all this silliness. Who cares about what some daft people think? I do love NIN but its not the be all and end all.

Shep | 8/3/2009, 12:32 pm EST

I never met a NIN fan who wasn’t a complete douche.

YOU GUYS ARE STUPID | 8/3/2009, 1:56 pm EST

interesting how you all sit here and talk junk on trent. you DO realize that NONE of you will ever amount to anything in this lifetime right? NONE of you will ever be as significant or matter doing ANYTHING. LOSERS

jason | 8/3/2009, 2:10 pm EST

We don’t call them fanatics for nothin’.

AndreaUrbanFox | 8/3/2009, 3:11 pm EST

I have doubts the Trent Reznor that commented here is the real Trent Reznor. Not once he used the words c*nt and pig and that is unlike him. But if it is, it goes to show the guy is still eStalking me…making him a sad loser. Also, if his intention was to defend himself of whatever, it backfired so bad I`m actually feeling sorry for him. It must be hard to come to the end of one`s career and go out so disgraced, unloved and looking like an ass…then again he IS an ass-clown…that skid mark on society and the music industry collective underwear. This lil man with delusions of tall should say sorry to every single person he offended, openly on nin.com call off his NINtarded psychofans and tell them off for going around making death threats (failure to do so implies he agrees with his minions making death threats),he should explain himself as to what his real involvement was in this Eric fund malarky, should marry his trashy geisha and fade into blissful obscurity where both of them belong. And if anyone here is at all interested in knowing how all this circus started just go read my blogs on WordPress username AndreaUrbanFox…enough said.

really? | 8/3/2009, 3:43 pm EST

really andrea so we are never going to hear another word from you about this subject as well… are you gonna be the one to take the high road and let it go and write about something else for a change? it would be refreshing. not a trent “asskisser” but i will say the negative has certainly helped the both of you in regards to the attention.. and i agree that the biggest victim of all is “eric” who can’t defend himself because he is no longer here… and i think if you are going to take rez on.. leave that guy out of it.. his memory doesn’t deserve it.

AndreaUrbanFox | 8/3/2009, 4:02 pm EST

No way! As long as the material is there for me to write about, I will write.
And you should get your facts straight before addressing me. I`m not having a go at a dead person. I am asking valid and legit questions regarding the fund-raising for Eric. Trying to warp what I`m saying has just made you look a fool.
As for TR, as long as he keeps up with his ill advised PR stunts and his foot-in-mouth I will be there to document it all.

lol | 8/3/2009, 4:03 pm EST

lol, this just states the fact that: THE INTERNET IS STILL SERIOUS BUSINESS . SRSLY.

really? | 8/3/2009, 4:16 pm EST

you have got to be kidding me.. stalking other sights to see what is being written about him so you can respond and then “plug” your blog makes you look as legit as a three dollar bill. you are guilty of every charge you have thrown out. name calling as well. tit for tat. :) i’d challenge you to write about something else.. do you have anything else to write about? how about rainbows and glitter?

Internet Hate Machine | 8/3/2009, 4:20 pm EST

@lol

Get the fuck off 4 chan and getting your own fucking thought patter instead of copying internet memes.

Anonymous | 8/3/2009, 4:21 pm EST

This is nothing new. Wasn’t Trent going on and on forever in interviews in the 90’s about some writer named poppy z brite who said something negative about him?

Internet Hate Machine | 8/3/2009, 4:22 pm EST

@really

Go get a god damn english book and brush up on your spelling skills.

Internet Hate Machine | 8/3/2009, 4:33 pm EST

Fuck all the Eric bull shit. That was the single biggest case of “Cry more, cause crying will help” in internet history.

Andreaurbanfox | 8/3/2009, 4:45 pm EST

@ really?

I challenge u to read my other blogs and have a serious, well educated comment for each of them. Cant wait to hear what your views are on Dignitas

Andreaurbanfox | 8/3/2009, 4:46 pm EST

AndreaUrbanFox | 8/3/2009, 4:45 pm EST SO bogus, SO lame, SO obviously a NINtard

next!! | 8/3/2009, 4:47 pm EST

next!!!!!

really? | 8/3/2009, 5:13 pm EST

i tell you what andrea when you write(excluding your blogs) a well educated comment that doesn’t include calling someone a “nintard” (which i am not) a “fool” which i am not… or any other “shortcut to thinking comments” you have made about a variety of people then i will come to your blog and read you with an open mind. if you are going to dish it out andrea you should be able to take it as well. now go back to twitter
and continue to write your “immoral and controversial material” and post your pointless links… i certainly hope those don’t include the other writers you support on twitter.. otherwise that wouldn’t be so nice now would it?

Bill Cosby | 8/3/2009, 5:29 pm EST

I find this whole situation ridiculous. I will always be a NIN fan, but I am also of the opinion that TR way overreacted to bullshit on Twitter. Theree are many celebrities using Twitter that read the same type of trolling nonsense every time they log on, but they don’t make matters worse by engaging these people. That being said, I think some good points have been made (rarely) but most of this is just hateful trolling nonsense. I really wish TR would not read crap like this comment board, but odds are he knows about it and will let it get to him. My only question I guess is this: Even if you think TR is a shallow human being, if you have listened to NIN for several years are you really going to overlook the music you enjoyed because of this stupid drama?
It’s hard to imagine someone really appreciated the music to begin with if they can dispose of it because the front man isn’t what they thought he would be.

Andreaurbanfox | 8/3/2009, 5:39 pm EST

I admit that I love NIN and all of the insults calling Trent Reznor “bloated” are really just a reflection of how I see myself. Anyway thanks you guys for listening.

Puppy Go Home | 8/3/2009, 5:43 pm EST

I think Trent has finally lost his mind. He is a grown 44 year old man who instead of doing productive things in his life by now, is doing the most stupid childish things he can think of. Oh for the love of god Trent give it a rest. We really dont care what you do any more, you are your most worst enemy. I’m sorry but your whore is just a child her self, with nothing to do in life but follow toy around like a puppy. If you still have abandonment issues you need help. It took you what 3 months to ruin 20 years of your life in music. And I know you worked really hard at it. And it seems like as soon as you finished listing your tour you quit twitter, which seems like something you would do. You need to go home and find your self cause this new guy is an idiot. Now your getting drunk. Everyone I know was so proud that you did With teeth and stayed sober, and now this.

Dr. Bob | 8/3/2009, 5:46 pm EST

Come on and answer the impostor’s question Andrea. What were your motives for retweeting the nasty eric comment? At times your inane rambling made a few valid points. But you pretty much lost all of your credibility with that epic #fail.
You should thank Trent Reznor. He is the only reason anybody reads your ridiculous self-obsessed blog.
And FYI- I’m not a NIN fan. I simply find you to be a repulsive human being. Go back to twitter and stop self-promoting yourself here. Let the real fans/non-fans debate this issue.

Jack Nutsack | 8/3/2009, 5:53 pm EST

Andrea has retreated back to twitter because a few people on here dared to question and/or disagree with her. Good riddance.

ninformation | 8/3/2009, 10:12 pm EST

Anyone who thinks “I am NOT stopping making music or working on things — NIN is just not touring anymore. Nin.com will remain active and alive with lots of updates planned” is news is an idiot. He has been saying this for months!!

Rabbitbunny | 8/3/2009, 10:30 pm EST

What we have here is just another angry old white man with a persecution complex and an objectifying, lascivious taste for young women. How very common Trent Reznor has turned out to be, having a tired midlife crisis and coming out to the public that he made up his old image. He’s even started an internet war! wow. He’s got the pattern of a mental disorder down cold. Good luck with that ghetto trash narcissist that is MQ.

annoynamous | 8/3/2009, 11:03 pm EST

Well hes trashy girl has just left her band. Wonder what b brought that on.

annoynamous | 8/3/2009, 11:08 pm EST

If you go on WIG site they posted that she cant do both, in so many words, so she left the band to start a new chapter in her life. This is were its really gonna get good. Hes going to be her complete boss, and now she will have to answer to him.I wonder how long this will last, just another chapter in this book.
