Reznor’s life suddenly seems to have devolved into constant squabbling with anonymous people online. I don’t know what he hopes to accomplish. It’s like watching someone shadow box at ghosts. I was a fan and now consider myself not to be – it ended on the day that he published that Metal Sludge fat girl rant. I’ve struggled enough with my weight and our culture’s unrealistic expectations about it for that to pierce me right to my heart. I can’t support a man who’s so cruel to women. He insulted me personally with that, and I’d never been on Metal Sludge in my life, I’m not a groupie, but I was a fan. No more. I’m not going to pay someone who abuses me. If you look at it in one way, artists have careers at our whim. We pay them to entertain us, but they really don’t have all that much power if the audience evaporates. So, Trent Reznor, you are fired, at least by this one lady who now sees that she is too good for you.

reznors twitter was good because he was honest and uncensored, too bad all the trolls on there had to spoil a cool thing.

Yeah, now that leaves him free time to offer career advice to fledgling musicians on the NIN forums. And continuing to take potshots at other artists while he’s at it. Latest targets: Lady GaGa, Coldplay, U2 and Justin Timberlake. It never stops.

There are three types of NIN fans: People who truly like the music and respect the man (or used to); Groupies and teen girls who will soon move on to the next “in” group; and Starfu^^kers that will defend him no matter what he says or does (and are regulars on all NIN forums and boards). I totally agree w/ the “He’s living in a bubble” post. I’ve been a fan of the music since Downward Spiral, and I respected the music this man made. And the NIN forums are terrible- when people complained that JA was closing the NINJA tour, they got attacked. Then, Reznor says “I made a mistake having JA close the shows” and people said “SEE! His behavior over the last three months has proven all the rumors I’d heard about him in the past to be true. He’s a dysfunctional human being with some serious issues. So yea, like most of you I’ve been a fan for years. I was so excited to see Trent on twitter; it’s why I joined. I don’t tweet, I follow other people. His line about dropping the curtain a bit was exactly how I felt. I was getting a glimpse into his life. The more I read, the more I cringed. Dave T.- I think he should have ended his twitter along time ago and I said he has always been over emotional and whinny. However, the majority of people here and elsewhere are acting like his behavior was THE MOST TERRABLE THING EVER and COMPLETLLY UNFORGIVABLE. And I can’t really see how his fan-base can consist of hysterical women, I just attended two of his shows in Europe and something like 95 per cent of the audience were male.
And even if he criticize other musicians, which is not-so-nice (but he is absolutely right about Cornell, when one thinks of his Soundgarden days, he ridiculise himself)but, on the other hand he tries to help less known bands with their careers (like Mew, great band) which is very nice of him.

Reznor’s words were in response to some pretty horrible comments. Racist comments (The one I recall of the top of my head is “slanty eyed chink bitch”) were directed at the person he loves and he acted as most people would in that situation. I wish he hadn’t but only for his own mental well-being. He let people get to him, but I think he acted accordingly. You can’t sit there and poke at someone like that and then act surprised when they go off.

Some of his comments may have been cruel, but people need to realize that they were directed at a select group, and that group deserved it.

I thought it began when Maniqueen started posting on Twitter photos of random people (woman in Ugg boots, elderly taxi man, Yanni T-shirt woman) and made fun of them and saying ugly things about them. Then, all of her LA friends started tweeting about these random people. Maniqueen would take cell phone photos of people she didn’t know off the street, at airports, at NIN concerts then post the photos on the internet and write ugly things about them. What kind of person does that kind of hurtful thing? She is as sick as Reznor.

His constant diatribes against his fan base has made me wonder if he remembers who pays Mariqueen’s and his own bills. This is like going to your boss and telling him off-who hands you your paycheck at the end of the day? I know he is in Love-but Love doesn’t pay the rent when you are famous: fans do. I have been a NIN fan for 15 years, and also teach teenagers. Sometimes when your fans (or in my case students) become combative it really messes with your self esteem and u feel like u want to walk a way, then u have a really great day and it makes everything seem in place and worth while. I think Trent really needs a “Good Day.”

Nope I did not. That has been covered on my last blog regarding Reznor leaving Twitter and it was also covered by @fredgarrett in his blog, which I also provided a link to from my blog.

Trent has been really nasty to fans through the site – e.g. not honoring backstage passes he gives out, then blasting his disappointed fans when he doesn’t show up – telling them to ’stop fucking whining’. Then of course he goes off and whines to the internet with some expletive laden rant about how his iPhone app gets rejected.

His behavior on the site – from an outsider’s point of view – was really uncalled for. I bet Ashton gets tons of hate but he doesn’t rise to it, and show the world that he really doesn’t give a shit about the people who’ve made him. Some of his fans were really upset when he suggested fat girls should kill themselves.

Trent on Twitter was cool at first, because you got to hear things straight from him, and it gave everyone a little glimpse of who he is. When he announced his engagemnt, I figure right on, everyone deserves to be with the one they love. I admit that I formed a opinion of her just from reading her flakey tweets, but I never said anything bad about her to anyone, its really noones business what they do in their spare time. I must admit that my opinion of Trent completely changed after the Save Eric campaigne started. I felt it was such a self serving act, it was like he did it to save face since he had just put his foot in his mouth with insulting a bunch of fans then went off twitter for awhile. It was a nice charity act, but just a act all the same. Then it seemed like he was having a mid-life crisis hardcore. It was horrible but facinating to watch at the same time. Attacking fans, attacking anyone that questions any of his actions, the non- farewell farewell tour, the bad concert reviews, he just lost it and it is so sad that he let a couple of jerks get the best of him. I love all his old music, but after getting that insiders glimpse into the man himself, I can’t say that I will support anything he does in the future.

CHRIST! People are so touchy and “sensitive” these days. So people talked shit about you and your girlfriend. So Trent and his girlfriend talked shit about you people. Who fucking cares? They are WORDS, they can’t hurt you people, you won’t DIE from them. The fact that people are THIS wound up by all this is…scary.

Trent is a good dude with a good heart. He is a funking human being too. All of you NIN fans who are upset with him being happy, healthy and engaged and are pissed he isn’t in a world of angst still are the true losers here.

People TORTURED him on “Twitter” which is the stupidest funking thing to begin with. It was cool when he and Rob posted pics updates on what was going down but the constant bantering of idiots finally set Trent off and it was all well deserved. So F*CK off and let the man be happy. You should be happy he is happy. If you’re not I hope you stay as miserable as he once was forever.

I do feel a little bad for him in that his Internet/personal/professional f-ups are playing out to 100s of thousands of people. That was always one of the points I made from the start.

Trent’s not “engaged” nor happy….and that wasn’t ever anyone’s issue, if that had’ve been the case. He and that Dude he’s “engaged” to know they started trouble, but when it was thrown back at them, they couldn’t handle it.
Not only that, he was made to leave Twitter. He didn’t leave because “silence” is calling, or whatever ridiculous “last message” he gave. Trent is a nasty human being who lives to humiliate and cause attention to anyone who dare say anything that doesn’t praise him as their Lord and Savior. He’s a nutcase and a horrible person.

I am so relieved Trent’s twitter account is gone. It was like a train wreck, seriously. I’ve been a fan since day one but honestly all the “in Love” tweets were quite alarming. I thought it began when Maniqueen started posting on Twitter photos of random people (woman in Ugg boots, elderly taxi man, Yanni T-shirt woman) and made fun of them and saying ugly things about them. Then, all of her LA friends started tweeting about these random people. Maniqueen would take cell phone photos of people she didn’t know off the street, at airports, at NIN concerts then post the photos on the internet and write ugly things about them. What kind of person does that kind of hurtful thing? She is as sick as Reznor.

1. Trent Reznor’s “private life” was still private until Mariqueen and her band mates made it public.

2. I believe the racist spammer who broke the news of their “relationship” on Twitter was in fact an impatient Mariqueen drumming up publicity for herself and her band since Reznor would not publically acknowledge her.

3. I believe Reznor actually thinks he is in love, though I doubt Mariqueen is. It’s pretty obvious she’s still in love with someone else (France Ten?) and is using Reznor for the publicity and free meal ticket.

4. Everyone is in the wrong in this Twitter situation. The trolls for attacking Reznor and Mariqueen. Reznor and Mariqueen for feeding the trolls and acting like immature trolls themselves. Reznor’s “sheep fans” for encouraging Reznor and Mariqueen’s behavior and attacking people on their behalf.

5. Twitter is not “broken”, Reznor just doesn’t know how to use it correctly.

I have doubts the Trent Reznor that commented here is the real Trent Reznor. Not once he used the words c*nt and pig and that is unlike him. There’s still some question out there as to whether Reznor willingly deleted his account or whether Twitter “asked” him to because of his many terms of service violations. He posted personal info online of people he was squabbling with and then created multiple anonymous accounts whose only purpose was to insult those same people. I guess rules and netiquette are only for us common folk.

If Rolling Stone published my ISP or released it to Reznor, I’d sue them and him.

I have been told by a reliable source he was approached by twitter and asked to tone down. He rebuffed asking them to ban me and a few others and as this didnt happen he deleted his account. I wrote about this on my blogs

I think you’ve got a mix going on of some excellent points, some shaky ones and some ulterior motives – it’s true that Reznor’s been unhealthily focused on you because of your standing up to him, but you’re also obnoxiously exploiting the situation. You’ve got your own outlets on Twitter and your blogs, so please don’t hijack this comments page for your own self-promotion. I commented as I did because I think it should be brought to Rolling Stone’s attention that they may not have the real story, or they’ve got only part of it. They’re professional reporters, and this is turning into a big story – the winner of the Webby Artist of the Year Award can’t even function on Twitter.

Well I see Reznor is at it again. Whining like he claims his fans do. For someone who keeps threatening to stay away from the internet, he sure does do a good job of posting all the time. Irony at it’s finest. He brought all this upon himself, his idiotic tweets, his attacks on people who made him who he is today.

As each day goes by, another ring is added to the Reznor/Mariqueen circus. Instead of threatening to leave the internet and go in the “real world”, Reznor just do it already. Leave people alone. This might be why some of us don’t trust or respect Trent Reznor right now as a person. Trent has been bitching and moaning his way through this current tour. There have been times when I’ve thought maybe he’s being treated too harshly, but then I read comments by people who knew him or were acquainted with him, and most of them say he’s always been an ass, and that fans are just seeing it for the first time. He’s the one who can’t stop broadcasting his personal business on the internet. I used to listen to his music. Now I’m not planning on attending any of the shows or listening to his music ever again.

Have to be honest, I stand by my opinion that Nine Inch Nails has not been relevant to anyone outside of the tech crowd since the late 90’s. Trent Reznor can’t take being a celebrity. lol. His current whining seems to indicate his emotions are pretty fragile. Otherwise he would ignore criticisms. I think his rant is a little much. Ranting on popular things get you free publicity. Celebrities are like banks: they want all the benefits of a capitalism, but when the shit hits the fan they want someone to “fix” it for them. If you’re popularity is contingent upon the spread of information via rapidly updated social networks, but those social networks allow free speech, well… I guess…cope! Rolling Stone, your article is biased – you left out the part of Trent’s same nin.com post where he told people how to kill themselves – “cut along the vein, you’ll get better results.” You ARE only presenting half the story, if that much, and taking Trent’s word for it that all of his detractors are in fact “idiots.” Start digging around the web, and you might start to see some other opinions.
