Velvet Revolver at “Standstill”: Slash Talks Weiland, Singer Search

In a new interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Slash confirms what fans have been suspecting over the past few months: Velvet Revolver still haven’t found a new singer.

Noting the band is at a “standstill” while Duff McKagan tours with his punk group Loaded and Slash works on his own solo album, the guitarist said, “I haven’t heard any amazing submissions from singers as of late, so I might… Y’know, Velvet when it finds the right guy will be amazing, but I’m in no rush. I’m not freaking out — because that’s how we got Scott [Weiland] in the first place. He was the first decent guy that came up.”

Though it seems like Slash is taking digs at the band’s first frontman, who split from VR in March 2008 due to what the band called “increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems” in a press release, the guitarist insists he has nothing bad to say about the Stone Temple Pilots singer — except that he doesn’t play well with others. Saying a lot of the songs he wanted to write were “squelched,” Slash calls “fuckin Velvet Revolver” the “toughest five years,” noting that troubles with Weiland and “joke management” meant “I could never be happy.”

“Scott to me is now like George Bush — y’know, I like him now that he’s not here,” Slash concludes.

In April, McKagan told Rolling Stone the band thought they found a new lead singer, but it ultimately fell through: “We were given too much time and we were able to go, ‘Ah, fuck, I don’t like that about the guy.’ ”

seem like slash is a problem…what is it a year later and he still bad mouth weiland? come on…fact is no one wants to play with you guys

Dexter | 7/17/2009, 1:17 pm EST

Slash is a Cancer.

surforia | 7/17/2009, 1:31 pm EST

The frontman for Velvet Revolver will always be doomed. They are impossible shoes to fill, unless your name is Axl.

Brent | 7/17/2009, 1:40 pm EST

did you not just reead that he wasent bad mouthing weiland? an i think the problem is that everyone wants to play with them. who wouldnt? they already have the fame, its not like they have to make a name for them selvs they just gotta make music

Odd, that for a guy who loves to come off as easy-going, Slash has so many problems w/ lead singers, management, etc.

Wonder if Mr. Rose gets a bad rap just because he expects perfection and isn’t shy about it….

toby | 7/17/2009, 2:08 pm EST

remember how everyone waited like 17 years for axl’s disaster? VR is either going to go away or they are waiting for the right vocalist to reveal him/herself.

Steve | 7/17/2009, 2:12 pm EST

He needs to get the Snakepit back together so we can go back to not caring. How’s this for a summer tour: Guns N Roses (but only Axl and his new mates), Slash’s Snakepit, Izzy & The JuJu Hounds, and Loaded, with special guests Adler’s Appetite.

Jeff | 7/17/2009, 2:47 pm EST

I miss the Slash who knew how to keep his trap shut.

I also miss the Slash who knew how to write good songs. That Slash died around 1991 or so (once Axl stopped giving him direction).

dirk | 7/17/2009, 3:27 pm EST

slash is a clown who won’t take off that stupid lookin’ hat because he’s afraid he won’t be recognized.

GNR BABY!!! | 7/17/2009, 4:08 pm EST

SLASH your just not cool anymore your stuck in the past and you died pretty much in 91..

axl atleast is moving on to new things! you rock axl i love you!!!

Jones | 7/17/2009, 4:19 pm EST

Velvet Revolver is done. Since it dismissed Weiland:

VR = 0 new songs; 0 new records

Weiland = 2 tours w/ STP
1 solo album
1 solo tour
1 new album due out this fall w/ STP

zow | 7/17/2009, 4:23 pm EST

get chuckberrys’ singer

butch | 7/17/2009, 4:25 pm EST

maybe axl rose is available.was that his name?what ever happened to that guy?didnt he put out some mediocre album last year?

Vocalist | 7/17/2009, 4:27 pm EST

Any lead singer that they hire will be challanged. If this is “Slash’s Band” and he wants a successful group he’ll need to loosen up the ego. It’s extremely difficult to bring in a lead singer in an already well know talented band. Those are big shoes to fill indeed. They must be open to new ideas.

shank | 7/17/2009, 4:32 pm EST

Poor Slash. It’s not his fault Weiland left. It was Sorum. By now we all know Chinese Democracy is a great album. Even Duff’s Loaded is pretty good. And Scott’s Happy In Galoshes is better than the first VR album. Slash may be a better musician than all of them but they can all write better songs.

STFU | 7/17/2009, 4:33 pm EST

Who the F*ck wants to play with Slash. He’s a dumbass poser to Guitar Hero.

David | 7/17/2009, 4:37 pm EST

I can’t see them pulling some no-name off the streets [CAUTION: See Slash's Snakepit]. It will have to be an established guy. My guess is they’ll do one more album with someone and then break up.

Vocalist | 7/17/2009, 4:51 pm EST

Alterbridge lead singer may be looking. I agree one or two more albums and that will be it.

blacktrees | 7/17/2009, 5:10 pm EST

Lenny Kravitz!

Mikey | 7/17/2009, 5:24 pm EST

Yeah, I say they bring back that TV show where washed up bands and rock stars look for a new singer. Rockstar Velvet Revolver. Dave Navarro has nothing going on right?

brownie-p | 7/17/2009, 5:34 pm EST

They just may be that desperate enough to find a guy off the street if that is all that is available, otherwise they’d be wise to pick a seasoned singer like Adam Lambert, though I agree with most people when I say he’ll have to fight with them for creative control and that won’t work. Same thing with queen. They should just cut their losses or they may have to hold auditions for just about anyone.

Hey | 7/17/2009, 5:37 pm EST

What about Michael Jackson?

Oh . . . wait . . .

brock_Vond | 7/17/2009, 5:39 pm EST

I like the idea of another reality show. Maybe they can use previous contestants from American Idol, Rockstar … and D-List Celebrities … like Paris Hilton, Denise Richards,

Either that or Scarlett Johanssen, Adam Lambert, Clay Aiken, (or better yet) Bo Bice may be available ….

Jays5672 | 7/17/2009, 6:25 pm EST

This is EXACTLY what I’m talking about with these stupid retarded ridiculous bands. I remember crystal clearly reading the article right here on RS.com that Velvet Revolver were “weeks away” from announcing their new singer. Now where are we? MONTHS past with these guys looking like even bigger Dbags (if that’s possible). Just keep your mouth shut until something is for sure. Learn from Billy Corgan and Trent Reznor. Also, this rant was pointless as I really couldn’t care less what all comes musically from any of the members of this retarded band.

skillet | 7/17/2009, 6:41 pm EST

Axl drove away Slash and Co cause he more control and thought they were all dopeheads. Slash and co ran off Weiland cause they wanted more control and thought Weiland was an eratic dopehead.

Slash is a mellow dude.
VR = lose one bandmade, 2 albums in four or five years.
GNR = 8 or 9 band members, 1 album, 17 years.

Yea, it really looks like people really love working with Axl. He goes through bandmembers like Slash used to go through heroin.

amber | 7/17/2009, 7:12 pm EST

Slash is one of the most amazing guitar players that are still alive. He’s pretty much living history. Any band that he’s every been a part of or played in was amazing and has gotten a lot of recognition.

So anyone who can say shit about him better stfu because chances are he’s gotten farther then any of you hopeless pathetic losers ever will.

heathen2002 | 7/17/2009, 7:14 pm EST

Whoever they get, it’s gonna suck a fat one.

sirloin | 7/17/2009, 7:25 pm EST

I know these hard rock guys aren’t supposed to show any vulnerability but if Slash could just admit he needed him maybe Weiland will come back. After the next STP album of course.

Axl rose | 7/17/2009, 7:35 pm EST

so guys can i get my job back?

Axl | 7/17/2009, 8:08 pm EST

when old guns n’ roses ended slash said his relationship with axl was at a “standstill” looks like history does repeat itself. both band started out fine. made 2 albums and rose to fame. then there egos got the best of them and so it ended.

the alternative: slash’s is a dick

Ego? Ahem—-> Slash is the only real mfer still standing. Cool and talented. A true guitar hero, not a wannabe like you haters.

rrr | 7/17/2009, 9:29 pm EST

slash and axl should go on howard stern and go at it.

pete | 7/17/2009, 9:30 pm EST

chinese democracy rocks!!!!

VR 101 | 7/17/2009, 9:50 pm EST

Fuck you guys!!! velvet revolver is a talented band. They dont suck at all.if they can find a better vocalist than druggy weiland instead off slash, matt, dave andduff carrying scotts freakin baggage around.scott was a freakin dragg.some of you guys dont even know what your talking about.Axl is not the solution.yet your brainless to remember tht Slash and Axl have beef with each other.yeaa!!! your gonna have a great long successful career with tht.yeaa most of all you ppl care is ohh guns n roses guns n roses.its over.even Axl was a dick.hes a amazing vocalist but a fuckin dick. Some of you dont really know about Velvet Revolver.some of you ppl just listened to a song i bet.the majority of you ppl did just judge them from their music and what you heard. You dont sqwat!!!

Rebellious Uprising | 7/17/2009, 11:09 pm EST

The people who say Slash must be a problem because this is the second time he’s had problems with a lead singer are dumb. If that is the case, then I guess Duff and Matt are egotistical control freaks too, cause in case you idiots forgot, they too were in GNR. And they also has issues with Axl. Like Slash said, their mistake was accepting Scott into the band way too soon, they did not take the time to figure out how Scott would gel with them. It’s like rushing into marriage before taking the time to properly know the person. It almost guarantees that it will end in divorce. Same thing with bands. It’s not just a matter of “Oh, well he can sing decent enough, so let’s take him”. There’s also the aspect of “Can we get along with him?”. And as someone who has had the personal experience of finding out his bandmate’s true colors as the band became more successful, Slash should have known better. He probably didn’t realize that Scott is bipolar drug addict who does not take his prescribed meds, and therefore is susceptible to mood swings, VERY much the same way Axl is. Of course, if Slash knew that, then I don’t think he would be so keen on taking a chance with Scott.

guru | 7/17/2009, 11:16 pm EST

fans of VR and GnR eat poop.

guru | 7/17/2009, 11:23 pm EST

VR and GnR wrote crap songs and never should have left the garage. The only reason why they made it big was because the record companies wanted to get the public used to buying lousy music since the best days of rock were over by 1986. You booger-eaters fell for the lie that “These guys are good>”

guru | 7/17/2009, 11:26 pm EST

VR 101 eats the most poop out of all the VR fans.

cha cha | 7/18/2009, 12:43 am EST

Weiland is a herion addict plain and simple. He is loaded all the time. He hasn’t recovered, even though he is constantly trying to play the card of “I’m clean and sober…now” He isn’t. He eventually shows up loaded somewhere and embarrasses himself. He’s old and he’s over, it’s not appealing. It’s time to grown up, but let’s be real. He won’t. No one will be surprised when he takes the same road to the graveyard as Cobain. Sadly it is common knowledge that his management, friends and family are just waiting for the call that he is gone for good.

You can’t blame VR, and good for them not being a part of the enabling force. It is impossible to create anything, let alone music under those circumstances.

rawkdude | 7/18/2009, 12:52 am EST

At this point who cares?

These Shoes | 7/18/2009, 12:55 am EST

Yeah Scott is always chasing the dragon. The worst thing that could happen to him is that he receives any sort of success that would equal money. It just funds his habit. The best success he could hope for is recovery, retirement, and being a Dad and role model for his kids. Though that doesn’t seem likely.

The rest of the guys in Velvet Revolver are super talented. They need to focus and make a decision. There are talented singers out there, undiscovered talent. Stop the bitchin about what was…Scott wasn’t the ticket to making good music. That was the past and ok it sucked. Move on guys, get back to work and prove your worth.

Shambala | 7/18/2009, 1:09 am EST

Liked Slash’s comments about comparing Weiland to George Bush. But wait there’s a difference — Bush is sober. Weiland sucks. Take your meds wacko. Or not, noboody likes you either way.

Mr Savage | 7/18/2009, 1:50 am EST

umm..what about Prince? when was the last time that guy went on tour?

Jethro | 7/18/2009, 3:09 am EST

Gary Glitter is out of jail. Problem solved.

yeah | 7/18/2009, 10:45 am EST

rock and roll is often spurred by volatility and (unfortunately) drug use. you have to take risks to do something different, and that means working with difficult people.

i’m not a big vr fan, but at least they’re flying the rock and roll flag. it’s better than most of the pop and hip hop crap on the radio.

saltlick | 7/18/2009, 11:04 am EST

these guys aren’t trying too hard .not a priority really.

Guns and Roses | 7/18/2009, 11:13 am EST

First of all, chinese democracy sucks. The GnR arent the same without Slash. Axl tried to make a new band and he just became fat, lost his hair, and his band sucks. Maybe if slash and axl came to an agreement. Ohh, and GURU fucking SUCKS for saying the GnR is shit.

VR 101 | 7/18/2009, 11:14 am EST

Slash has had problems with vocalists cuz apparently the vocalists have had drug problems or big egos or both. Some of you guys forget tht a band is a commitment. One person cant hold the weight of a whole band.and guru obviously doesnt know shit!!! if he doesnt like guns n roses and VR then he must have a thing for the those Jonas Brothers instead.lol bitch! you obviously dont know rock at all.who eats poop the most now

akmike | 7/18/2009, 11:20 am EST

What about Sea-Bass

NAT | 7/18/2009, 11:54 am EST

slash has been around for awhile and has worked with many artist and lets face it there aren’t any good guitarist from the 80’s that are still around. slash is going to be around for awhile and i wouldn’t be suprised if he quits the whole band idea and goes for a full solo career similar to eric clapton

rebel girl | 7/18/2009, 12:19 pm EST

Scott likes the
ramones

yayaya | 7/18/2009, 1:05 pm EST

Look. Slash seems like very a nice and cool dude. He is undoubtedly a piece of music history, BUT, he is probably one of the most overrated guitarist EVER

john ford | 7/18/2009, 1:05 pm EST

slash is a great guitarist and weiland a great writer, singer and front man, he missed stp, so he said the heck with vr and partied his ass off knowing he was going back to stp, who was amazing when i saw them in vegas last year.

bicuspid | 7/18/2009, 1:33 pm EST

Slash has been fortunate to have 3 brushes with greatness. First his mom dated Bowie a few times. Then he gets in a band with Axl. Later he lands a gig with Weiland. Can lightning strike 4 times?

Rocco | 7/18/2009, 1:39 pm EST

Velvet Revolver created interest because the GNR/STP history. Problem is, their videos are better than the songs they are for. Mediocre songs. Not sure if Slash can write good songs. I think Izzy wrote the best songs in GnR. Even with a new singer the songs won’t be very good. People will maybe see em live to hear the old GnR stuff. Loaded sound better that VR.

hucklebury | 7/18/2009, 2:31 pm EST

When you build a band and you need one more person…. say a singer and some one finaly comes along who is super talented and fits the sound you want. Problem is that person starts off great and then progessivly gets a shity additude like They need me more than I need them. They start comming to rehersal or gigs late if at all with their brain on auto pilot and their mouth on overdrive. It sucks and it gets old when you have to do all the work just to keep it together. VR will be better than ever when the right singer comes along. Obama’s probably a better singer than President, hopefully he will be available in a few years. He has way more star power than George Bush and is probably less of a doushe bag than Scott Weiland.

Kewin | 7/18/2009, 3:53 pm EST

to all of you there say shit about slash fuck you!!!
slash is the greatest guitarist ever. i love everything he does. you should try to sid down and watch him playing, then you can see how many emotions he plays with, and that is a real guitarist. a real guitarist plays with emotions….

Axl | 7/18/2009, 5:59 pm EST

the whole slash thing is stupid and childish. god at least axl knows how to grow up for god fucking sakes!!!!

Kelly | 7/18/2009, 9:37 pm EST

I know that this will absolultely never happen, but God… I just wish that Axl and Slash could just throw away their pride and make ammends. I think the world would be a better place if those two could make a GNR comeback. It’s sad because, without Axl, Slash is nothing, and without Slash, Axl is nothing – at least not in the music industry. They make each other look good, their talents compliment each other. Sad thing is, it just ain’t ever gonna happen. But if Steven Tyler and Joe Perry could make up back in the early eighties, these two talented fuckheads should be able to also!

GEMDIAMOND | 7/18/2009, 10:49 pm EST

Sebastian Bach would be a great vocalist for VR.

Anonymous | 7/19/2009, 12:31 am EST

adam lambert?

nawaf | 7/19/2009, 12:54 am EST

slash your my icon since i was 14 now 33, believe me when i say this U WILL NEVER FIND ANYONE AS GOOD AS AXL

Eric C. | 7/19/2009, 2:19 am EST

Saw VR a few years ago, too bad Weiland is messed up on drugs, he is an incredible performer, and I have been going to concerts since the 70’s, seen ‘em all.

Tanya | 7/19/2009, 4:30 am EST

I adore Slash. To me he is Jimmy Page of 90’s but last year I saw VR and it was THE WORST show that I’ve seen by far. Velvet Retirment!

Kewin | 7/19/2009, 6:49 am EST

i also wish that axl and slash could do that, but the problem is that axl would like to play rap but slash doesnt. so it’s really hard for them to play together.
but i’m a really slash fan so i support him with everything he does, and i almost like everything he plays.

Liamer | 7/19/2009, 7:30 am EST

GNR Reunion FTW

sbd | 7/19/2009, 8:11 am EST

the last time i farted, it smelled like chinese democracy. anybody else catch a whiff? oh, apparently not…

Axl | 7/19/2009, 9:41 am EST

slash used to be cool but now he’s shit shit shit!!!!!

Kewin | 7/19/2009, 12:44 pm EST

NO!!!!! his not shit!
his the coolest guy in the world!

W. Axl Rose | 7/19/2009, 1:15 pm EST

HAHAHAEHAHAHAHAH
wat a bunch of losers. no one cares about Velvet Revolver Slash.

canigetahellyaa | 7/19/2009, 2:11 pm EST

vr was stp lite, utter crap.Anybody that thinks axl needs slash is sorely mistaken, slash would be lucky to work with axl again.

Bob | 7/19/2009, 3:43 pm EST

The guy’s better than this. It’s sad watching him capitulate to the current trends so disgracefully.

Slash needs to harden the fuck up again, stop bitching and stop selling his legacy away to Guitar Hero, American Idol and Simon fucking Cowell. Be a leader, get Duff et. al. back in the fold and get yourself a fucking singer.

This shit is really getting old.

Anonymous | 7/19/2009, 5:00 pm EST

If Slash & Adam Lambert join force, it would be so great!

weekend shift | 7/19/2009, 6:30 pm EST

Two words: Joan Jett. She is as bad-ass as they come, is currently active as a musician and most importantly, she doesn’t come with a set of personal baggage. She’s perfect for VR. I mean, she’s great frontwoman and is really talented. She writes great songs and really kills on the guitar (I hope Slash wouldn’t mind sharing guitar duty!). They should really open their minds up to the possibilities of having a female in the band, cause Joan would be awesome. VR would have more success than they could have ever imagined with Scott.

fitzsimmons | 7/19/2009, 7:00 pm EST

Meanwhile I don’t understand why Duff doesn’t take over on vocals. Or why Slash isn’t part of his Loaded line-up.
I still think a Weiland/Slash combination makes sense. They were getting better. Libertad was a huge improvement over Contraband.

Matt | 7/19/2009, 7:09 pm EST

Chris cornell would be an awesome front man for velvet revolver

And all that jazz | 7/19/2009, 10:48 pm EST

Oh please Bob, spare me the “he’s a sellout” crap! Like you wouldn’t license your music to Guitar Hero (which btw, tons of other bands have) or appear on American Idol (Queen has, would you call Brian May a sellout for that?). The only that matters is for Velvet Revolver to find a suitable replacement who will last a lot more than five years before things fall apart on the personal front.

Tommy | 7/19/2009, 11:04 pm EST

I saw VR in Sydney and it blew my mind! As did the new GNR. I do agree, they would be better together, but that ain’t gunna happen. I think VR should get Eric Dover from the first Snakepit record… strong voice, great lyrics! Cornell would be good, but he’d cop some shit for it! What about Courtney?! Or Brodie Dalle?!

Steve | 7/19/2009, 11:46 pm EST

Bottom line is Slash and Co are becomming a little like our friend Axl. Waiting and waiting and waiting.. and controlling. All through this process there is talk about Velvet revolvers/Slashes direction.. I have always been of the opinion the guitar play plays guitar and the singer sings… I have respect for Slash but Velvet revolver is dead in the water not it;s all about his direction.. hopefully the solo album gets whatever he needs to do off his cest and just relax.. I thought Scott was great with lyrics. Liberated was much better than Contraband and yet Slash wants to control the direction. It’s starting to reek of Axl type behaviour and shows us that both Slash and Axl are too creative and controlling to let go…

Dave | 7/19/2009, 11:53 pm EST

Weiland may have slipped back into drugs but Slash is turning into the boston strangler.. being too controlling.. having singers line up but for one reaosn or another they dont match HIS direction.. Does this behaviour sound like anyone else we know??? It’s sad but creative genius eventually implodes on itself.. Axl spend 14 years before finally imploding.. how long will Slash?

thedetoxg | 7/20/2009, 6:51 am EST

lets all set up a donation to get the oriiginal GUNS N ROSES together do dope go on stage and fuck some shitt up, stop bickering about qxl and slash, theier kinda old they went through years of drug use and touring. their just shot and cant see the light were they should just chill out and reunite

Scott Weiland | 7/20/2009, 7:12 am EST

Having to learn that your lead guitarist doesn’t have your back, but rather stabs a knife in it instead, is hard for ANY frontman. That’s what breaks up great bands…that’s what broke up ALL of your bands.

maggielindia | 7/20/2009, 9:12 am EST

^^^^Cool Guys!!!
Hot cougars and milfs on ==== Agelover. c o m ==== love you guys; and wanna hook up with men just like you!! if you don’t mind the so-called age gap, if you really have desires in your hearts, then you rock there!!!

scottysgirl662 | 7/20/2009, 10:02 am EST

I don’t know seems like Slash is the one with the big Ego and attitude problem. And no offense but he just isn’t that great. Dean DeLeo is better.

Jugalo | 7/20/2009, 10:06 am EST

Fred Durst would be great in Velvet Revolver. How awesome would that be? Hell yeah!

He was in a rock musical “Movin’ Out”

running gerund | 7/20/2009, 12:05 pm EST

I think many ppl here need to keep in mind Scott left VR.
I doubt Slash is a control freak. He and Duff are not going to settle for less but they know better than to get LSD.

Brandon | 7/20/2009, 12:11 pm EST

Some people seem to be really blowing this out of proportion. It’s not like VR has been sitting around for a year looking for a singer the whole time. They took a break and Slash is working on an amazing solo album with 14 tracks including guests that look like a who’s who of rock royalty. Duff is doing his Loaded thing, etc. Anyways, Slash’s album is gonna be huge when it’s released next year and then VR will record the songs they already have written with their new singer. No worries.

Peachphish | 7/20/2009, 12:36 pm EST

They should just drop it all together and appreciate what they had before it went to crap. Move on and keep doing collaborations. Maybe someday they’ll ALL work it out and just get back together. If not. Oh well.

Peachphish | 7/20/2009, 12:36 pm EST

Slash’s career is gonna end soon. im gonna boycott “Slash & Friends.” i hope it sells worse than “Chinese Democracy.” slash is getting old, bald and fat and i want him to suffer the same crap axl did (except no comeback). the difference=slash deserves it!!!!

excuse me for this but…. WHAT THE FUCK? No one gives a shit about these washed up middle aged rockstars. GnR was the end of it! No one wants the ex members lame final strive for fame. I have one thing to say to Slash and Axl… FAIL FAIL FAIL!!! There are imensley better ways to make a douch of yourself then put out shitty backwash music. My prediction of where these ex- rockers are gonna end up: Being pulled over with coke in their pockets adn a hooker in the back seat, and being sent to court.

So i’m begging you, quit or shitty bands now and let people remember you for GnR while you still ahve some dignity left.

Anonymous | 7/20/2009, 5:14 pm EST

VR or any Rock& Roll bands needs to reinvent themselves…no excitement anymore!

Jamies gun | 7/20/2009, 6:24 pm EST

yeah, heard about that Irish guy. Apparently Matt loved his demo and lyrics but he may be too clean cut.

Imp | 7/21/2009, 12:03 am EST

Where did Sorum go? Crawling back to The Cult?

deeznuts | 7/21/2009, 1:23 am EST

Most of you sound like a bunch of aging rock star wannabees that still live in their mom’s basement.
Get on with your lives and find some new music-there is plenty out there!

Ray | 7/21/2009, 3:47 am EST

Could I possibly care any less? Nope.

vlado | 7/21/2009, 6:36 am EST

thats what u get for leaving the greatest band in the world. stop being kids, sort out ur shit and get guns back on
sorry my heart is speaking, it’ll never happen

Mike Love | 7/21/2009, 6:00 pm EST

Saw Holden in”Movin’ Out”. Pretty cool singer.

Will believe it when I see/hear it though.

Daniel Minard | 7/21/2009, 7:47 pm EST

I think a woman who looks good, ‘gets-it’, has a unique vocal style, and presence would really open up a new way of looking at all of this.

Something for everyone.

God bless

AXL wins | 7/22/2009, 2:36 am EST

haha well Slash, it seems that u have failed… again. U put together this supergroup that was supposed to be the future of rock and roll and it blew up in ur face in two albums. Ohh and not to mention that Chinese Democracy out sold both of VR’s albums by a mile.

Charlie | 7/22/2009, 11:20 am EST

hahahahaha AXL wins comment was hilariouse, purily bassed ont h opening line.

Hollister Holly | 7/22/2009, 3:18 pm EST

Just checked out this Holden character on myspace. Not bad at all. Only one song, Bad Tattoo, would lead me to believe they would want him.

Charlie | 7/22/2009, 7:24 pm EST

can you give me a link to holden’s myspace?

mopa | 7/23/2009, 7:18 am EST

axl wins comment just show how stupid some people are, chinese dem was the biggest pile i have ever herd , not guns at all more like a bad elton john record. c/d was over produced & like an album of demos that should never seen the light of day, where contraband (vr) is a kickass rock album if you cant see that then maybe you should be buying american idol cds !

M | 7/23/2009, 2:12 pm EST

I don’t see the point in rebuilding a not-so-great band that was a rebuild of two great bands in the first place. I love Scott Weiland, but that second VR album just made me wish that STP would get back together. So things have worked out for Scott, but now Slash needs to get over it and move on.

Hollister Holly | 7/23/2009, 2:15 pm EST

Can’t fit in on here for some reason.
Just go to myspace.com and search him.

Charlie | 7/23/2009, 3:48 pm EST

okay well thanks anyway haha, and mopa.. I agree, well not the axl whens is stupid… cuz the beggining of his comment made me laugh… but the fact that Chinese dem. was wayyyy over produced haha.

William Sawyer | 7/24/2009, 4:36 pm EST

I went to Darren Holdens my space. Bad Tatto is quite rockin. yeah, Slash probably dug this.

Axl Wins II | 7/25/2009, 5:54 pm EST

Well of course some people are going to hate my previous comment (Name: Axl Wins), because its the sad sad truth. And no matter what anyone says, its the truth. statisticly speeking, Chinese Democracy is way more popular, it sold more copies than both of VR’s albums, the charts could be better for both bands, and if u walk up to some stranger on the streets, chances are, theyve heard of chinese democracy and most or all of its songs. And that same stranger probably couldnt name five-ten VR songs, or even the name of both albums. I know i Cant.

And VR isnt going down in music history as the greatest supergroup either. Chickenfoot is a beter supergroup. Or better yet, theyre not going down in history at all. in ten years people will still remember CHI-DEM, but some might remember that band that made that song in the Guitar Hero III game… ohh wait that was Guns N’ Roses too.lol.(i meant the commercial. HAHAH)

Axl Wins II | 7/25/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Ohh yea Be4 i forget, Hey Mopa,

Go Fuck Urself Bitch.
This is my opinion asshole. nobody else’s. Im not holding a bolt cutter to ur {small} dick and forcing u to like my comments, Axl, or CHI-DEM.

And im stupid?
U probably live in a trailer and share a pair of breifs with ur cusin.
Enjoi having sex with ur sister and the next nascar event on the speed channel.

Ohh wait sorry. i forgot u dont get the preimium channels with fre goverment cabel. enjoi public access hoe-downs

New VR Vocalist Auditon | 7/25/2009, 7:52 pm EST

Listen to a killer new Velvet Revolver singer audition and rate the vocal track! Enter YouTube search term: Velvet Revolver Vocalist Audition July 2009.
by Lorenaudition

Scott | 7/27/2009, 8:45 am EST

Well yeah more people will have heard of Chinese Democracy than of Velvet Revolver. Chinese Democracy was announced at about the same time as Starship Troopers.

Anonymous | 7/28/2009, 11:14 pm EST

I think Guns N’ Roses is way cool. But, the new album Chinese Democracy isn’t really even by Guns N’ Roses. It’s by Axel and some other people no ones ever heard of. So don’t say Guns N’ Roses new album sucked, say Axel’s new album sucked. Because Guns N’ Roses is awesome. But Axel can’t do what he used to be able to do. He’s cool still, but he used to be a lot cooler back then.

Anonymous | 7/28/2009, 11:15 pm EST

Sorry about posting it twice. I’ve never used this site before.

Anonymous | 7/28/2009, 11:17 pm EST

By the way Slash is still way awesome. He’s just not as awesome as he used to be like everyone else who was in the original Guns N’ Roses.

exposed | 7/29/2009, 1:26 pm EST

I believe Matt Sorum is championing a guy called Darren Holden. He is Irish.

sirloin | 7/30/2009, 7:14 pm EST

Maybe Sorum and Holder can split off and form their own band.
Leave VR and GnR alone.

Cyril Sneer | 7/31/2009, 8:25 am EST

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed 50% of the new material on Chinese Democracy?

revolver tattoo nz | 8/1/2009, 7:52 am EST

i dont care what anyone says but i wanna sing for vr if scott could get a chance, fuck let me have one,

revolver tattoo nz | 8/1/2009, 7:55 am EST

check out ray old velvet revolver audition on you tube, its not scott but theres something different about him, bits of four tracks on it showing mellow tones and a rougher edge, fuck he cant do any worse than the ones who are auditioning at the moment, give him a go i say

Anonymous | 8/1/2009, 10:23 am EST

eric…fukin…dover!

Vick | 8/1/2009, 4:42 pm EST

Slash. why don`t you stop beating this dead horse ? Velvet revolver is dead..finished You never had anyone or found anyone after Scott quit. now no one cares. Scott went back to a band (deleo brothers)that knows how to write great songs and has his back. After you did that american idol episode you have lost all respect and crediblity.

killer | 8/2/2009, 4:45 am EST

Actually ,I wouldn’t ming seeing/hearing what Darren Holden would bring to VR.

Jamie | 8/5/2009, 2:28 pm EST

KEVIN JONES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OPEN YOUR EYES

Griffin | 8/5/2009, 4:59 pm EST

Joe Elliot told slash about Holden. He knows him from Dublin.

merty_boy | 8/12/2009, 4:46 pm EST

you know, what the hell? g’n'r used to be the real deal. what i mean is that loads of bands “played” rock ‘n roll, G’N'R lived rock ‘n roll! Will there ever be bands like this again? probably not! times have changed, ita all money, sales, merchandise! what the hell happened to the music ppl? these guys were honest musicians who lived like shit, but didnt care cos theye were doing what mattered to them and us- they were making kick ass music…

dave | 8/15/2009, 3:50 pm EST

check out this singer, wyrdo. search nathan satan black flame, or lorne cooper black flame, on youtube. he’s perfect for the gig.

clydebank | 9/8/2009, 10:50 am EST

Metalunion | 9/11/2009, 9:09 am EST
