Nominees for 2009’s Emmy Awards were announced today, and among the countless nods for 30 Rock, Mad Men and the entire HBO programming schedule, Justin Timberlake managed to grab three nominations. Timberlake’s work as guest host for the Saturday Night Live was recognized in the Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series category, while JT also picked up a pair of nods in the Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics for his hilarious SNL digital short “Motherlover” and his “I Live Sports” song from the 2008 ESPY Awards. Timberlake previously won an Emmy in the category for 2007’s “Dick in a Box.”

Other musical notables include HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, with Jemaine Clement scoring an Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series nod — a longshot considering he’s facing against 30 Rock’s Alec Baldwin and The Office’s Steve Carell — while Conchords itself was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series as well as Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics for their Season 2 highlight “Carol Brown.” Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger was also among the nominees, grabbing a Music And Lyrics nod for “Much Worse Things” from Stephen Colbert’s A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All.

And then there’s American Idol, which received too many technical and directing nominations to list. However, in the bigger categories, AI secured yet another Outstanding Reality – Competition Program nod (perhaps the magnetism of Adam Lambert will finally allow AI to win the category after losing six consecutive years to The Amazing Race), while re-signed host Ryan Seacrest garnered a nomination in the Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition Program category for the second consecutive year. For the full list of nominees, check out the Emmy Website.

Apparently the power of Adam Lambert isn’t just in his voice. Well done again RS for recognizing Adam’s influence. Don’t forget we want another cover when his CD drops – pretty please

adamlover | 7/16/2009, 3:29 pm EST

Adam is all that! AI better enjoy now b/c nobody will be able to match what Adam brought to this season. Thank you RS for keeping up w/ our boy!! Are you also going to cover the enormous responses he’s getting at all concerts??? Way more than any of the others.

SK | 7/16/2009, 3:36 pm EST

And then there’s American Idol…of any year I believe that this may be the most deserving. Kudos to the producers and judges for recognizing Adam’s talent. I agree that he may be the reason that they win. P.S. I second Lissa’s motion for a cover when Adam’s CD drops

Jo | 7/16/2009, 3:52 pm EST

Yes, thank you RS for always remembering Adam and keeping him in the news. Another cover when his CD drops would be great and if it’s not too much to ask, recognition of what he’s bringing to the concerts. He’s bringing down the house every night!

poprocks | 7/16/2009, 4:03 pm EST

Love Adam Lambert and only watched AI cause of him—nice to see RS is appreciating his talent and hope they write how Adam is stealing the show on Tour!

Carrie | 7/16/2009, 4:06 pm EST

Adam Lambert can bring any show to TOP ratings!!!

Pam | 7/16/2009, 4:13 pm EST

I’m sure it was nominated because it was probably number one in ratings for the whole series because everyone wanted to see Adam perform every week. He renewed the show’s numbers I’m sure. I saw comments all over about people tuning in just to see him.

Marg | 7/16/2009, 4:56 pm EST

AI should be thanking Lambert for auditioning this season. He’s the only reason I (and I suspect many others) watched the show.

dlt | 7/16/2009, 5:09 pm EST

The power of American Idol is all the paper backing it, all the advertising. The Ojays had a big hit in ‘74

Anonymous | 7/16/2009, 5:25 pm EST

Adam Lambert drops glitter on everything he touches lol, AI will win because of him. I’ve been to two AI concerts and the crowd goes NUTS for him. Oh, and RS, we would still like some of those session shots?????

bebe | 7/16/2009, 7:03 pm EST

Thanks to RS for mentioning Adam here. AI Season 8 owes its high ratings and overall success to Adam Lambert. If not for him, many of us would never have watched the show. I even went to my first idols-on-tour concert just to see the man. Of course, he stole the show. Hope to see him in RS again soon.

Chris Kirkham | 7/16/2009, 7:38 pm EST

I think AI got its Emmy nods cuz of me and my pink bunny.

JD | 7/16/2009, 7:40 pm EST

Why does everything JT does have to be nominated for something? Must have been a very slow year.

dlt | 7/16/2009, 7:42 pm EST

Time for some supper, McDonald’s

teri63 | 7/16/2009, 7:58 pm EST

I was just noticing that the mere mention of American Idol inspired every singe blogger to think of Adam Lambert. He really was/is amazing, and I am one of probably many who subscribed to this magazine due to the very smart people at Rolling Stone who so frequently and thoroughly cover his climb to fame. While I have loved all the attention you’ve given to Adam, I was very disappointed in the first concert review. It’s not that I can’t acknowledge that they all are doing the best they can do, but it was SO UNREALISTICALLY POSITIVE about virtually each and every performer that the positives higlighted about Adam seemed kind of weak. I’ve listened to cell-casts, read all the other revies, and/or watched the You-Tube recaps of most of the performances, so I KNOW Adam’s blowing the roof off every venue he visits. I’d love to read about his latest successes in Rolling Stone!

Timberlake has more talent in his pinkie than any of the haters out there. If you don’t like his music, that’s understandable, but dissing him just because he’s Justin Timberlake is plain douchey

I know I wouldn’t have watched AI if it wasn’t for Adam Lambert.

AdamLuvr | 7/16/2009, 9:17 pm EST

The only reason to watch American Idol this year was Adam Lambert…he raised the bar. Before Adam AI tended to be a karaoke ballad snooze fest.

wicked glitter | 7/16/2009, 9:29 pm EST

I could’nt wait to buy the issue of RS with Adam Lambert on the cover. It was the first time that I have ever bought your magazine. What a great story! The pictures of Adam were beautiful. AI should win the emmy for discovering this iconic performer. See you at Auburn Hills, Adam, for the concert.

dlt | 7/16/2009, 9:36 pm EST

Justin Timberlake is a descendent of Frankie Avalon, a player of Beach Blanket bingo. He plays golf w/ Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop too, probably. More important: I believe he writes his own songs

Lindajean139 | 7/16/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Did I hear the name Adam Lambert? I love Adam Lambert and if AI does win anything it’s because of him. I have never followed a show so closely before and it’s 100% due to Adam Lambert!!

Carla | 7/16/2009, 9:43 pm EST

Adam!!! I want more articles on Adam!! More Adam Lambert please!!

Lisa Kimball | 7/16/2009, 10:24 pm EST

I wish Justin Timberlake would host SNL every week! he was fabulous! And he’s a great talent ….

But i have NEVER followed anybody like i’m now following Adam Lambert! Since the first 20 seconds of air time of Adam AI had my full attention!

tmare | 7/17/2009, 3:58 am EST

Just returned from the AI show at Staples Center in LA. I would never have even considered attending this show if it weren’t for Adam. I was only disappointed that his set was too short. He’s absolutely stunning, completely astounding.

dlt | 7/17/2009, 6:40 am EST

We’re seeing more of Lambert these days. He’s putting on weight.

Enough of the vanity. Timberlake lets Allen and Lambert drive his golf cart. Alice Cooper muses: Lemmy on the thirteenth hole

bob pridden | 7/17/2009, 10:54 am EST

adam makes AI worth watching. great that he is being recognized- and shown us what a real talent contest is like!
GOOOO ADAM and i cant wait to buy ur album! rock on, the best contestant on AI EVER@!!!

Overrated | 7/17/2009, 11:05 am EST

Adam Lambert really not feeling guy but good luck to him…JT really what is the world coming to? Like someone noted it really has been a slow year in tvland. How does mediocrity merit award wtf!

Josh | 7/17/2009, 3:36 pm EST

ADAM Lambert will definitely help AI win its first Emmy! He’s the most intriguing character that helped jolt AI into a new edgier, more relevant entertainment realm.
ADAM was great TV for AI!
He pushed the envelope, so envelope please…the winner is…

Nina | 7/17/2009, 4:53 pm EST

Adam is awesome! He’s the only reason
i watch american idol this season. First time to buy RS magazine, first
time to vote on american idol, first time to goggle on the internet, first time to go to american idol concert and its all because of adam lambert. I’m addicted to him. I want to know everything about him. Please another cover before he’s cd comes out in the fall.

oh shut up about AI already. That show sucks and always has, the first two seasons were decent, but since then its been a suck fest that really needs to just die already. FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS DESERVES EVERY AWARD!!

So FM’s gonna be like AM, gabfest radio

dlt | 7/17/2009, 8:28 pm EST

Like what Walt Whitman said, To have great singers we need great audiences.

Back to the golf game. Lambert and Allen are getting some mileage borrowing Timberlake’s and (Alice) Cooper’s Three-irons. They can’t drive w/ woods–or (Tiger) Woods–yet

Lars | 7/18/2009, 6:48 pm EST

Congrats to AI for the nomination. I have to think Adam did contribute to the success of that show. I watched last year a little because I really liked David Cook. This year I tuned to the auditions and became instintly attracted to Adam’s voice. His vocals are just extrodinary. His abililty to couple the vocals with his dramatic and unique presentations demanded we watch him. All great ones have had that ability. It is about the voice, but it’s also about a singer being able to envelope us in the story. I do think AI owes Adam a debt of gratitude for getting them off boring and taking them kicking and screaming into a new musical era. And conversely, Adam owes AI for giving him the forum to allow the rest of us to witness the birth of the next superstar.

dlt | 7/19/2009, 12:09 am EST

Nothing like checking out the wetness of a superstar

rio | 7/19/2009, 1:52 am EST

I only watched AI because of Adam, I bought by first RS issue for the same reason and will buy all of your issues with him in them. He is totally addictive!! Thank you RS for including Adam in this article, more covers of him PLEASE!!!

maryann | 7/19/2009, 2:56 am EST

I do hope American Idol gets the award…and that would be all because of Adam Lambert!

Anonymous | 7/19/2009, 4:22 am EST

JT is one of the best recording artist there is and sexy as hell as well. So haters please!

Yehey for Adam Lambert. HBIC is the best there is. Thanks RS for supporting him. I just hope you write more about his vocals. Go Glambert!

Adam Glampoo has replaced the velvet Elvis. And, as we all know, there’s much to say about a velvet Elvis. And a Boticelli.

Mickey Mouse or Justin Timberlake? I’m on Walt Disney’s side, I’m voting for Cubby

maggielindia | 7/20/2009, 9:14 am EST

Hot cougars and milfs on ==== Agelover. c o m ==== love you guys; and wanna hook up with men just like you!! if you don’t mind the so-called age gap, if you really have desires in your hearts, then you rock there!!!
