Pearl Jam Reveal “Backspacer” Track List, Pre-Order Details

7/15/09, 3:58 pm EST

Pearl Jam revealed the pre-order details and track listing for their upcoming album Backspacer on their official Website today. The LP is available in two formats through the band’s Website, as both a “Ten Club/Indie Package” CD (similar to the packaging of their last self-titled album, or Avocado as the site calls it) and 180-gram vinyl featuring a 24-page booklet featuring original art by cartoonist Tom Tomorrow. Some perspective artwork — including the cover that Conan O’Brien quickly flashed when Pearl Jam played the debut episode of The Tonight Show — is up on the Pearl Jam site now with the disclaimer “Not Actual Release Artwork.” As Rock Daily previously reported, Backspacer is out September 20th.

Fans can also order a 7” white vinyl of Backspacer’s first single “The Fixer,” which debuted in an excerpted form last night during the Major League Baseball All-Star game. While the single will be released to digital services and radio on July 20th, the 7”, backed by Backspacer track “Supersonic,” won’t be sent out until August 24th. As for the Backspacer track list, there’s 11 songs on there, including “Got Some,” which the band debuted when they performed on The Tonight Show. The track list is after the jump.

Rock Daily reported last month that even though Pearl Jam granted the retail exclusive for Backspacer to Target, the band’s own Ten Club and independent music stores will also distribute the band’s ninth studio album. Last week, Pearl Jam announced their opening slate of tour dates to support Backspacer, which was named after the sea turtle the band sponsored in the Great Turtle Race.

Wow. Lazy on the song titles.

Supersonic and Force of Nature are both Oasis and Speed of Sound is Coldplay. Is this a britpop tribute album?

Wow | 7/15/2009, 5:53 pm EST

So I guess no one can ever use those song titles again, eh? “Supersonic” was originally a JJ Fad rap song. Go castigate Oasis too.

Eddie Vedder's Beard | 7/15/2009, 6:18 pm EST

Let’s not forget The End is a song by the Doors and the Beatles. What a bunch of rip off artsits, huh?

Marc Marin | 7/15/2009, 6:20 pm EST

Even comparing Oasis and Coldgay to Pearl Jam is offensive. It’s the material that matters, not the track titles. The track titles could be non-existent and just represented by numbers and they’d still be better songs than anything oasis or colplay have ever or will ever record.

Ok Marc | 7/15/2009, 7:04 pm EST

I agree that Pearl Jam is stellar, but no need to go all elitist on us. Calm down. “Coldgay” is a weak attempt at an insult.

Anonymous | 7/15/2009, 7:17 pm EST

It’s one thing to nik a song title, and something far more offensive than ripping off one’s sound….This goes out to Oasis from the Beatles, and Coldplay from Steve Vai and Cat Stevens.

Bust Off | 7/15/2009, 7:30 pm EST

OHHH Palllllleeeeeeeeassse! Who gives a shit if the song titles are the same as others. I doubt Pearl Jam listens to Coldplay so they probably didnt know, and if they did, dont care! They have paid their dues for 20 years now they can name there next album “Dog Shit” for all I care. It will still be better than any Coldplay album. How many artists have sued Coldplay now? U2 called Chris, they want a cut. Keep stealing Edges guitar.

@ Anonymous | 7/15/2009, 8:51 pm EST

I like the song titles. Simple and epic. Go back to there classics, same thing.

damn | 7/15/2009, 9:09 pm EST

yeah i agree with bust off here. everyone chill out. does a song title really matter? jeez stop being so critical. Pearl jam can release an album called eat shit and everyone here would still buy it and listen to it.

sds | 7/16/2009, 12:11 am EST

Yeah i agree both bloody cold play and Oasis pinch other peoples music thats weak.. Coldplay are a pathetic excuse for music, at least oasis admit it.. Chris martin should just go and die somewhere

Johnnyfly | 7/16/2009, 12:35 am EST

Oasis is a great band. But PJ is a little better of course.

Johnnyfly | 7/16/2009, 12:37 am EST

I am estatic. I cannot wait for the new album!!!!!!!

shaun greenly | 7/16/2009, 12:42 am EST

I am ecstatic!!!!!! The new album i am sure will be nothing short of spectacular!!!!!!

Capt. Andy Hillstrand | 7/16/2009, 1:33 am EST

Quit worrying about the song titles, you haven’t even heard the songs. Relax and wait, then judge. In the mean time, eat some crab.

Reasonable | 7/16/2009, 4:31 am EST

What an argument in the first place. I’m sure when PJ write songs they make an effort not to copy song titles. Like me and other fans of good music they don’t give a fuck.

Craig | 7/16/2009, 8:10 am EST

Some of you you are ridiculous thinking Pearl Jam is knocking off Oasis and Coldplay, two of the most UN-ORINGINAL bands of all time. Seriously, Supersonic was a JJ Fad song long before Oasis, so did Oasis rip off an all female rap group? Seriously, they are just song titles, which over the years many have been repeated. At least PJ’s Music doesn’t sound completely like others, unlike shitty bands like Oasis.

Tylerdurden | 7/16/2009, 8:11 am EST

Why don’t you wait to hear the songs before any assumptions are made by titles. I agree with the eat shit comment

Friggin Tommy Noble | 7/16/2009, 9:14 am EST

They could name the songs ‘Butt Juice’ and ‘Rapetastic’- I don’t care. As long as the music’s good, they can name it what ever they want. Even coming from a huge PJ fan, I can say that some of you are looking WAY too much into the song titles.

Greatest Band In the World | 7/16/2009, 10:32 am EST

This Album is going to be good… I can feel it in the air.

bayliss21 | 7/16/2009, 10:44 am EST

the mighty Led Zep used Moby Dick as a song title. chew on that foreskin all you haters. jezus christ I get sick of the bitching about new music.

Bring On The Rock | 7/16/2009, 11:19 am EST

The second PJ starts playing any one of these songs, only then will the title even begin to have any importance. Until then, shut up and wait eagerly for the music to speak for itself.

sebastian | 7/16/2009, 11:19 am EST

You guys are nutz.Creeps.

Tim McGraw | 7/16/2009, 12:55 pm EST

Just Breathe is a cover of my wife’s song…

Fail | 7/16/2009, 1:32 pm EST

Not that it matters one bit, but the song titles on their own are a little weak (with the expection of 2,3, and 7).

Sammy Davis, Jr. | 7/16/2009, 2:20 pm EST

This album’s gonna suck because the band members have totally ripped off names like Eddie, Mike & Jeff. Come on people – give it a chance and make a LOGICAL critique.

TheCoz | 7/16/2009, 5:31 pm EST

While we are here, isn’t “Just Breathe” the name of a Faith Hill song? I will admit, “Speed of Sound” stuck out like a sore thumb on this tracklist.

Ari | 7/16/2009, 5:43 pm EST

The ‘Get Some’ single sucked on Conan. Hope the rest of the songs arent as bad.

Anonymous | 7/16/2009, 8:33 pm EST

If they actually had Butt Juice’ and ‘Rapetastic’ as song titles, I would consider buying this album…

… but I don’t shop at Target.

hey doosh | 7/16/2009, 8:54 pm EST

yea, but your mom shops at target, maybe she can buy the album for you?!

hey doosh | 7/16/2009, 8:55 pm EST

Anonymous | 7/16/2009, 9:33 pm EST

So there can’t be more than one song with the same name? You people are stupid.

eatburn | 7/17/2009, 8:59 am EST

Reeeally? The song titles bother u THAT much? It’s Pearl Jam. The song can be called ‘Eat my ass’ it’ll still be Pearl Jam rocking that shit.

PJBACKER | 7/17/2009, 10:10 am EST

Do u think that Supersonic will be faster than The Speed of Sound??

Anonymous | 7/17/2009, 10:49 am EST

hahahahaha! Pearl Jam ripping off Oasis & Coldplay! I think I may have pissed my pants with laughter!

ObamaBinLaden | 7/17/2009, 10:54 am EST

Reading the comments for any article makes me wish the world would implode tomorrow. Its like reading comments on a youtube clip. It represents the worst humanity has to offer. Yet I still do and get pissed off. Oh yeah – Oasis and Cold Play can suck my white ass.

maury | 7/18/2009, 9:57 am EST

anybody that says pearl jam is ripping off coldplay or oasis is a big fat douche. coldplay is the worst bad i’ve ever heard everything they put out sucks and sounds the same i couldn’t tell you what song is from what album.coldplay and oasis should stay overseas……

franky | 7/18/2009, 7:27 pm EST

they used to have always such cool covers, and now?? it looks like a kid drew it.. looks like a bad copy from in utero.

Anonymous | 7/20/2009, 1:34 pm EST

alright first of all, how can u even compare Coldplay and Oasis to Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam kicks their asses anyday, and they can use those song titles just cause Pearl jam’s songs are way better than Coldplay’s and Oasis’s, so they basically have the right to use those song titles

old fan | 7/20/2009, 1:35 pm EST

i saw them yrs ago, live. they rocked but i hade to pay 7 bucks for a fucking beer. i thought they were anti-corporate? and also once it became “the eddie vedder show” we all left. no one wants to hear you butcher john lennon songs, just rock out with the band.

Ronnie77 | 7/21/2009, 3:30 pm EST

Oh dear me, slagging off song titles, bored are we??

I hate racists and red states | 7/22/2009, 4:09 pm EST

You are all moronic. The music they make is for true fans of the band, anyway. Lazy on the song titles? Target? It’s not even about the music, is it? It’s about your jealousy of their fame and your insignificance to the rest of the world. These forums are a pulpit to others just like you. Perpetual ignorance is what Pearl Jam attempts to stop from spinning with their music. Unfortunately, people like ObamaBinLaden (the moron who posted, not the president) will never go away.

IndyPJfan | 7/25/2009, 9:21 pm EST

Blah Blah Blah…all you Pearl Jam haters can suck it…this album will effin’ rock just like all of the others…I can’t wait to hear how good this is. All you haters, go to itunes and download some more Creed!

Matty | 7/29/2009, 7:14 pm EST

B-Sides was the best album…I’m still waiting to hear “Hold On,” live!!!

Anand | 7/30/2009, 10:48 am EST

Pearl Jam are a great band. SHIT BANDS AND ARTISTS include but are by no means limited to: Green Day, Nickelback, Sum 41, Coldplay, Creed, Bon Jovi, Deff Leppard, Motley Crue, Kid Rock, Eminem, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, LInkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Stone Temple Pilots, and the shit list goes on and on…. Thank God that a truly great band like Pearl Jam exists.

ThingsToBe | 8/10/2009, 2:42 am EST

its funny, i love pearl jam and i think this album is gonna be great. but i like creed to, lol, idk, i just like music. Pearl Jam i think is better though, no offense.

David | 8/12/2009, 7:03 pm EST

Very excited for the new album, being a serious PJ fan. Not too wild about any of the new songs in particular just yet (although ‘The Fixer’ and ‘Got Some’ seem solid), with the exception of ‘Amongst the Waves’, which sounds incredible.

Ozzie pj fan | 8/13/2009, 1:17 am EST

The song titles aren’t drastically original enough to be considered a rip off anyway. They’re quite vague. If they had a song called “Blitzkreig Bop” or “Tomorrow Never Knows” then ok. Oasis’s sound/look on the other hand… well! Can’t wait to see them!!!

eggyboy | 9/13/2009, 2:30 pm EST

speed of sound is called clocks.get ur facts right.xits an awesum album.

seeker | 9/29/2009, 2:53 pm EST

pearl jam is still the best rock band of all times and will continue doing so, never compare the doors to them, at least they wont sell out on an overdose like mr.jim

seeker | 9/29/2009, 3:00 pm EST

pearl jam brings music to life rather than old bands who could never do so, keep on rockin in the free world!!!! the hell with new bands, in my opinion they all suck, no other band can reach to what PJ has created in this lifetime

Anonymous | 10/4/2009, 1:03 pm EST

Anand… you just lost all credibility when u said stone temple pilots suck

Pating | 10/7/2009, 6:48 am EST

I love pearl jam. My favorite band ever since. But I also like Green Day.

the wadd | 10/8/2009, 11:50 pm EST

Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands,Eddie Veder can sing anything and make it a #1 hit

Usman Khan | 11/23/2009, 7:28 pm EST

I thought people who listened to Pearl Jam didn’t give a rat’s ass about titles cause Pearl Jam doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the titles either or have we forgotten the one word track names and the longish one? “elderly woman behind the counter in a small town drinking coffee and complaining about the dumb coughs who won’t get over the fact that Pearl Jam has better things to think about than pleasing people with cool sounding song titles like ’sub atomic international cow shit brigade’ “
