Beatles Artwork Comes to Reissue Storage Set “Box Of Vision”

7/13/09, 1:33 pm EST

With less than two months until the Beatles’ remastered catalog is reissued on September 9th, the Fab Four and Apple Corps. have announced a deluxe companion set called Box Of Vision for fans to store the upcoming releases. The Box of Vision isn’t just a storage vessel, however: The set will also feature a 200-page LP-sized book featuring all of the Beatles artwork — covers, back covers, gatefolds and inserts from both the U.S. and U.K. releases — covering every album from Please Please Me to the Beatles Love compilation.

An additional book in the Box of Vision will also house the Beatles’ “Catalography,” featuring all the track lists and other information from every release, plus a new essay from Beatles historian Bruce Spizer. But the real highlight is the storage book, which gives fans an eye-catching alternative to just plopping their reissued albums on the shelf. The Box of Vision was conceived to allow the digipaks housing the reissued albums to be stored within the box.

“It’s the ultimate fan piece,” says Jonathan Polk, who conceived the Box of Vision. “I have always been frustrated with the available options for organizing and storing CDs. And, I hated the fact that the beautiful LP artwork I grew up with was reduced to almost postage stamp size on CDs. The Box Of Vision gives fans the best of all worlds.” Fans can take a virtual tour of the Box of Vision, as well as pre-order it, over at BoxOfVision.com.

As Rock Daily previously reported, September 9th also marks the release of the The Beatles: Rock Band game.

While this will certainly appeal to hardcore fans, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. If you have current Beatles CDs, you can only place insert booklets and CDs in the box, not the cases. If you are planning on buying the 2009 remastered set (be it the mono or stereo release) they are already in their own box.

Wow…how is making A BOOK of LP artwork easier than just MAKING NEW LP’S??? Is there a worse and less fan-friendly organization in the music world than Apple Corpse?

You read all this stuff about the “Comeback” of vinyl, which is a very positive thing…someone should forward one of those articles to Neil Aspinall & Jeff Jones.

Jere | 7/13/2009, 2:27 pm EST

It makes sense! With no one buying CDs anymore, why not sell a box for CDs?

I’ll get the remasters, but I’ll probably skip on this unless it’s cheaper than it sounds.

Kevin the Robot | 7/13/2009, 2:41 pm EST

Amazon is listing the Stereo Box of remastered cds for $208, the Mono Box (which doesn’t include all their albums) for $240, and they expect someone to spend $80 plus shipping on this book for a place to store them. I hope Best Buy will be selling the stereo box for under $150.

I’m not sure what Steve is gong on about. How, pray tell, do you expect a band that has been broken up for almost 40 years with two dead members to give you new LP’s? Even with that, they have given you “Let it Be…Naked” and “Love” fairly recently, which isn’t too shabby.

By the way, Neil Aspinall is dead and has been for some time. Why don’t you leave him the hell alone, o.k.?

disbot 3000 | 7/13/2009, 2:46 pm EST

And I don’t care what you say, vinyl is nothing more than a novelty now and will never be more than that again. “Why don’t they release the albums, remastered, on wax cylinders, some I can enjoy the new sound on my Victorola?”

Besides, that’s a whole different marketing campaign. Give it 3 years.

disbot 3000,

It’s called re-issuing the original LPs, with the recent improved mastering.

Are you that dumb?

Anonymous | 7/13/2009, 4:23 pm EST

Also, still plenty of outtakes in the vault, as evidenced by the recent leak of ‘Revolution 1 Take 20′. And we’re still waiting on Carnival Of Light, etc…

A ‘new’ album, can be made.

artifcialred | 7/13/2009, 4:38 pm EST

This is long overdue! The entire catalog of the best and most influencial rock and roll band in history needs to be made available in an all inclusive form. This box to store it in is just icing on the cake, although this icing is a little pricey! 80 dollars (US)

disbot 3000 | 7/13/2009, 4:48 pm EST

And my point is that

1) it would be ridiculous to press these albums, remastered, in an antiquated format (i.e., the Victorola reference), and that

2) they will probably do just that in a few years after the majority of people have purchased the remasters on CD.

What part of that can you not understand?

disbot 3000 | 7/13/2009, 4:52 pm EST

Also, you think it would be a good idea to put out a “new album” of unreleased material made up of outtakes that were of such a low quality or of such insignificance that they couldn’t make the Anthology series? George specifically blocked “Carnival” from being included because he thought it was daft. He may or may not be right, but I don’t think I’d build a “new album” off of something like that.

Anonymous | 7/13/2009, 5:29 pm EST

disbot 0000,

I own plenty of bootlegs of studio outtakes just as good as (and in many cases better) than the stuff which was released on the Anthology series.

There IS potential for many more legally released compilations of that kind. ‘New’ albums are perfectly feasible.

And it will eventually come out. But please feel free not to buy it. It would be wasted on you anyway.

And despite your whining, there is still plenty of audiophile demand for vinyl, even in 2009.

BeatleWig | 7/13/2009, 5:35 pm EST

Some severe confusion in the early comments, but understandable given the way the story is reported above. This is NOT a product produced by Apple or the Beatles organization (or the ghost of Neil Aspinall for that matter). Some merchandising outfit has simply paid for a license to use the cover art and the trademarks, and has cobbled this thing together to make a fast buck out of the remasters hype. It’s no different from the Beatles lunchboxes, dolls, frisbees, badly animated cartoons and all the other trash that was churned out in the 60s on the same basis. Unless you collect junk, ignore it.

“You read all this stuff about the “Comeback” of vinyl, which is a very positive thing…someone should forward one of those articles to Neil Aspinall & Jeff Jones.”
Be hard to forward anything to Neil Aspinall. He’s dead.

This is awesome

heathen2002 | 7/13/2009, 10:29 pm EST

Steve- You’re an idiot.

juan aulet | 7/14/2009, 12:17 am EST

All i got to say is “the beatles the greatest musicians of all time”!!! PS- If they make a new album of unrelease material they should include “now and then” and “grow old with me”

Bob Williams | 7/14/2009, 1:50 am EST

Hey BeatleWig….Dig it….

Bob Williams | 7/14/2009, 1:56 am EST

Hey BeatleWig….Dig it..continued…

This “junk” you refer to is not only now worth a fortune but also brings great joy to many of us Beatles fans.
I liked the cartoon btw. :)

EdSullivan | 7/14/2009, 2:43 pm EST

The album artwork is worth the price alone, and since it’s a collector’s item, it will be worth a lot more in the future. Not sure if I’ll store my CDs there, too, but it’s a nice idea.

tim of aus | 7/14/2009, 9:32 pm EST

I find it amazing how anything that is released generates an instant wave of whingeing and negativity. I think the idea of a storage box with the extras is great and is the sort of thing the Beatles deserved. Yes I would have liked it to be cheaper with other things like the actual the text accompanying the remasters as well as the original albums etc but it is one of the the few quality option extras we have relating to the group. I look forward to more.

shank | 7/15/2009, 9:03 pm EST

How about a real Beatles box set? 4 or 5 discs packed with all their greatest songs minus all the covers and lesser tracks like Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Obla-di, Baby You’re a rich man,etc

Anonymous | 7/16/2009, 6:43 am EST

The lead is simply wrong. “Fab Four and Apple Corps. have announced a deluxe companion set called Box Of Vision for fans to store the upcoming releases.” No they didn’t. Apple Corps. licensed the material to another company, whose idea it was to sell this companion set. It is not a production of Apple or the Beatles, it’s a third party business trying to make a buck, with what may well be a quality product.

Robgina | 8/13/2009, 8:51 am EST

im not sure about this box of vision, this is just a bandwagon gimmick to me, if you buy the albums in the box sets that are coming out on 09/09 that will make this box unecessary. its not worth dropping another 80 for a place to store the albums when the box sets already come in a box.

TequilaMockingbird | 8/28/2009, 2:57 pm EST

Let’s be clear: this is marketed as a luxury item, not something as vital as, say, the remastered albums themselves. The ‘Box’ is meant for hardcore fans, most likely, and having the two extra books is a great perk. No, it’s not officially liscensed by Apple, but it’s still a unique package that is nowhere near as tacky as other merchandise ideas. It might not be that bad of a buy.
