Perez Hilton Confirms Warner Music Imprint: “I Have an Ear”

Perez Hilton’s record label under the Warner Music Group finally seems like its about to become a reality, EW reports, nearly 18 months after word of Hilton’s imprint first surfaced. “I have an ear, which is really important in the music world — to be able to hear a hit and to be able to know who has a good song or not… I’m more than just an A&R person. I’m also a marketing person. I’m also a manager,” Hilton tells EW. Today on Perez Hilton’s site, the self-proclaimed “Queen of All Media” hinted at his upcoming record label and linked readers to all his past music recommendations.

Hilton will reportedly announce his first signee later this month. In the past, Hilton has rallied around and helped jettison into the public eye artists like Mika, Robyn, Chester French and many more buzz artists that have frequented his annual SXSW parties. In EW, Hilton also takes credit for helping push Rolling Stone’s Hot Diva Lady Gaga into the spotlight. “I saw the potential in her from the very beginning before any one else,” Hilton said. Looking back at the personal under-the-radar play list Perez gave Rolling Stone in late 2007, his predictions haven’t been entirely accurate: Operator Please and Ultraviolet still haven’t broken out in the States, but Eric Hutchinson has slowly been building a buzz in the singer-songwriter niche.

Rock Daily first examined the pros and cons of a Perez Hilton record label in February 2008. While Perez has the built-in audience and ear for talent that make him a worthy candidate to lead an imprint, he has a larger audience of detractors than supporters and more beefs than the entire hip-hop universe combined. In the last month alone, Hilton has loudly bickered with John Mayer (over Twitter), Pete Wentz, and Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, with the latter feud ended in a confrontation resulting in Hilton being punched in the face by the BEP’s road manager.

Now I’ll now exactly who to avoid when shopping for new music.

Sober Blues | 7/10/2009, 12:46 pm EST

This waste of space has his own record label?!?!?!?!?! How the hell did that happen?!?!?! He has about as much an ear for music as the homeless guy on my street corner does!!! Good grief, what is the world turning into? As if we don’t have enough crappy musicians out there given undeserved airplay, Perez will help to add to the pile of crap out there? And who would want to owe their careers to Perez Hilton? That’s basically selling your soul to the devil. And not only that, the infrastructure of record labels is falling apart as we speak, and giving this idiot his own label is not only a waste of time and money, by doing it you are basically shooting yourself further in the foot. I’m not at all sorry that record labels are losing out to the internet, especially when they make stupid decisions like these.

Schultz | 7/10/2009, 1:22 pm EST

If Perez looks around we all have ears… I can take credit for anything including Gaga, but it doesn’t necessarily make it true. This guy is a media whore only famous for a blog slagging other celebrities.

Do us a favor Perez and go home and stay there. And RS, do us a favor an quit giving this guy any kind of attention!

Denton | 7/10/2009, 1:22 pm EST

Warner Music Group went on to comment: “Not since Tila Tiquila has someone SO worthless, SO talentless, SO utterly insuffereable, made themselves such a celebrity. Warner Music Group has hit rock bottom. Now, with Perez Hilton, we can keep on digging. Together.”

Sheila | 7/10/2009, 1:34 pm EST

I can’t believe anyone in the music industry would risk taking on the likes of that fake ass loser. Perez Hilton better damn well enjoy his 15 seconds of fame. It’s not going to last much longer. I just wish people would stop entertaining the guy. He’s bad news.

Wombat | 7/10/2009, 2:07 pm EST

Denton, if I could high-five you, I would. You took the words right out of my mouth. I guess we should prepare ourselves for the funeral, because this officially marks the death of music.

wtf? | 7/10/2009, 3:06 pm EST

seriously how the hell does such a dumb piece of sh*t get his own record label?! all it takes is having a good playlist? are you f*cking serious!? i’ve got some great playlists with amazing music. I can’t wait to see what the label releases, im sure it’ll all be pure comedy gold.

what a useless human being. someone get us out this misery and put him down.

Perez Hilton is actually taking “credit” for pushing Lady Gaga? I wouldn’t be advertising that fact

PLEASE | 7/10/2009, 4:07 pm EST

let it be called Douchebag Records.

Jesus | 7/10/2009, 4:39 pm EST

fucking Wanrer

Taraja | 7/10/2009, 4:49 pm EST

The only thing possibly worse than this is hearing that Rush Limbaugh will become editor-in-chief for RS. Even then, I don’t think anything could match the magnitude of Perez Hilton *gag* having a hand in the music industry. It’s beyond wrong. And RS says that for every one person that likes Perez, three people hate him. I think the correct ratio is for every one person that likes Perez, THREE MILLION people hate him.

WTF | 7/10/2009, 5:30 pm EST

Laddy GAGA is a hit…so what…Perez has promoted many singers on his site and she is the only hit. I thought he was being paid to promote her, but I see he wanted a music deal. I think his “ear” sucks. What a sick business the music industry has become. I won’t buy anything that is connected to PH. I really believe he thinks he is God. In reality he is only good at ruining peoples carriers for his own personal gain. Now that’s a sick SOB. If Warner music was looking for a saviour, this isn’t the way to go. I think they just put a nail in their coffin!!!

Come on will.i.am…

Knock this bitch out already!

WB = LOSERS | 7/10/2009, 8:48 pm EST

They must be suicidal ! LOL!

EPIC FAIL !

perms | 7/10/2009, 9:15 pm EST

keep up the good work Perez!

Hector | 7/10/2009, 11:19 pm EST

This guy has no business running a label, and labels have no business running the music industry. It’s an outdated model that doesn’t work, and I also agree with the other readers that Hilton’s “ear” sucks.

Joe Jackson | 7/11/2009, 12:27 am EST

Buy my album

Pizza Eating Champ | 7/11/2009, 1:14 pm EST

Perez Hilton says he has “an ear.” Great – I have two of them. Can I get my own label?

The guy’s a dumb-ass.

huh? | 7/11/2009, 2:49 pm EST

Perms, what good work has Perez Hilton done?

susan | 7/11/2009, 3:44 pm EST

I refuse to support any artist that perez loves and those that suck up to him because they are afraid of what he’ll write about them. The ones he hates are the ones I have more respect for since they don’t care about him or try to please him.

Rantee | 7/11/2009, 11:32 pm EST

This is the nail in Warner Brother Record’s music industry coffin… (and they want to claim illegal downloading is the cause of their financial problems?!? Doh, it’s called Stupid Decisions!)

This is obviously a sign for all stockholders to SELL IMMEDIATELY!!!

Sid | 7/11/2009, 11:39 pm EST

Well, any one on a label associated with this cruel ass will be off my listening/purchasing list. Listen up, Warner Music, you will lose way more customers than you could gain if you use this jerk who puts porn on his public website and sexually defaces children.

rd | 7/12/2009, 12:45 am EST

Perez Hilton is given a record label. The decline of Western Civilization is complete.

rd | 7/12/2009, 12:47 am EST

To compare Perez Hilton to Clive Davis is to compare charles Manson to Ghandi.

rd | 7/12/2009, 12:51 am EST

The fact that this miscreant is getting a record label while millions of good, rockin’ Americans struggle is revolting.

Bill Leslie | 7/12/2009, 4:34 pm EST

And record companies wonder why sales are down. pathetic.

DANZIG | 7/12/2009, 7:34 pm EST

Epic FAIL for Mario Lavenderia AKA Perez Hilton !

YES!

Missing Real Music | 7/12/2009, 9:28 pm EST

This really pisses me off. This no talent, arrogant, piece of crap is moving into the music business? What the hell is wrong with people? Warner, I’m looking at you. And RS, quit giving the idiot print. People need to ignore this pimple on society or he will never go away. Disgusting

God Only Knows | 7/13/2009, 8:51 am EST

Damn, how can this guy be given any credence whatsoever. He’s an absolute joke.

Rachelsun | 7/13/2009, 6:38 pm EST

Agree w/ each and every comment about this “persn”!!

Bohemian Rhapsody | 7/14/2009, 1:05 am EST

Warner just killed the music
Put a gun named Perez against its head
Pulled the trigger, now it’s dead.

Fernando | 7/14/2009, 6:47 pm EST

Guys!
This guy gets paid by EVERY artist to promote them.
This guy won’t do anything for free.

I know that for a fact. From 10 gran on you can get your music there.

And by the way, he is also tone death.

Much respect for those who can camouflage the flaws and make money with it.

This guy is the biggest loser in the world.
