Pearl Jam have announced a batch of fresh tour dates to celebrate the release of their new album Backspacer, due out September 20th. The album’s first single “The Fixer” will hit radio on July 20th. As Rock Daily previously reported, Target stores will have the exclusive mass retail rights to the album, with Pearl Jam’s own Ten Club and independent record stores also stocking their shelves with Backspacer on September 20th.

The new dates kick in one day after Backspacer’s release with a pair of hometown shows at Seattle’s Key Arena. Seattle previously had a taste of their band’s new album when the city’s Showbox was the host of a commercial featuring Pearl Jam playing “The Fixer” among other new tracks. From there, Pearl Jam head south for a four-concert residency at Los Angeles’ Gibson Amphitheatre — with a quick detour at the Austin City Limits Festival — before heading to San Diego on October 9th.

After that, there’s a 19-day gap until the band’s next two shows in Philadelphia, so keep an eye out as Pearl Jam will likely add more cities to their trek. The band also promises to play New Zealand and Australia in November 2009 (One wonders if the awesome surfing there have weighed at all on Eddie Vedder’s decision to venture into the Southern Hemisphere.)

As Rock Daily reported, Pearl Jam debuted the Backspacer track “Get Some” on the premiere episode of The Tonight Show With Conan O’ Brien, giving fans a sneak peek at the album’s artwork as well. “Backspacer” was also the name of the sea turtle that Pearl Jam sponsored in the Great Turtle Race back in April. Pearl Jam | 7/9/2009, 4:33 pm EST

We are blessed that these guys are still touring and keeping it real. In the year of rock retread and garbage rock by the numbers (Nicklecrap) its a testiment to these guys talent that they are still relevent. Pearl Jam is fantastic.

Zombie | 7/9/2009, 4:36 pm EST

Under. Appreciated.

behrkings98 | 7/9/2009, 4:39 pm EST

It sucks living in such a small town. Nobody ever comes to NYC.

Wrong | 7/9/2009, 4:42 pm EST

The name of the song from Conan is “Got Some,” not “Get Some.” Is it seriously that hard to do a bit of research?

Kennedy | 7/9/2009, 4:44 pm EST

Sorry, my fault. I meant to say Pearl Jam rocks.

Um | 7/9/2009, 4:57 pm EST

Target? Corporate Tools.

Darth Pop Tart | 7/9/2009, 5:12 pm EST

They just ended a 18 year relationship with Sony. A much larger corporation than Target.

Simple Math | 7/9/2009, 5:23 pm EST

Drewdog21 | 7/9/2009, 11:03 pm EST

Pearl Jam is the rock band to which all other artists should try to achieve to be.

tp | 7/10/2009, 9:55 am EST

Bad taste – I think not. His music sucks

Nico de Argentina | 7/10/2009, 10:11 am EST

The best two concerts of my life where the ones that Pearl Jam did in Buenos Aires on November 2005. That night Eddie said “I think this is the best audience we’ve ever played for”. He burst into tears when before playing “I believe in miracles” the audience went “Hey Ho Let’s Go!”, he was remembering his recently lost friend Johnny Ramone in front of the most Ramoner public in the world, the argentine public. It was overwhelming the connection with the audience that night. Can’t wait to get those goosebumps again while seeing them live. See you arround some time in 2010 (hopefully)

No Way | 7/10/2009, 10:12 am EST

It’s a happy day when Pearl Jam comes to town. It’s consistently one of the highlights of my year.

john ford | 7/10/2009, 11:07 am EST

pearl jam is the u2 of america, they are all heart and soul, counting crows? wtf? idiot.

MB | 7/10/2009, 11:13 am EST

A Pearl Jam tour and New Album = Happiness!!!!

St.Xdouche | 7/10/2009, 11:24 am EST

PJ might be one of the best live acts in the last 30 or 40 years. They give their all at every show. Can’t wait to see them in Chicago in August and hopefully more shows are added in the mid West

deano | 7/10/2009, 12:55 pm EST

Will there be a giant Target logo behind them on stage?

ricksmix | 7/10/2009, 2:42 pm EST

It’s always odd when someone who clearly dislikes something takes time out of their day to dwell on it…on-line, no less.

If PJ isn’t your thing, move on – or, at least educate yourself on the subject.

Pearl Jam is releasing Backspacer without a US label – cutting out the middleman. Target will have “big box” rights. PJ will also be offering an online retailer, a mobile partner, a gaming company and a network or possibly networks of indie retail stores.

Regarding the tour: If you never seen them live, you must! If you’re one of the people who “stopped listening” because every song recorded after Ten wasn’t Jeremy, you – of all people – need to go to a show.
On the other hand, I like that PJ concerts are filled with true, life long fans!

JCfrom DH | 7/10/2009, 3:10 pm EST

Sweet! First the Dead, now PJ to help say goodbye to my hometown Spectrum.

Slash | 7/10/2009, 3:20 pm EST

I’m actually going to sit in for Mike during the Seattle shows. It should be awesome!

Mozart | 7/10/2009, 5:47 pm EST

I jammed with the boys in Salzburg. Awesome, until the Kaiser’s goons shut the whole thing down!

“Regarding the tour: If you never seen them live, you must! If you’re one of the people who “stopped listening” because every song recorded after Ten wasn’t Jeremy, you – of all people – need to go to a show.”

No-o-o-o!! These are the people who ruined the Eddie solo tour by shouting like bours through the intimate set.

“On the other hand, I like that PJ concerts are filled with true, life long fans!”

Exactly. Not to be a snob, but… exactly.

I’m hanging out for the rock gods better known as Pearl Jam to head back to Australia. These guys have shown over a long time why they are still the best…….’cos they rock hard!

mariovedder | 7/11/2009, 2:42 pm EST

pearl jam is the best fucking band the first song that i heard of them was yellowledbetter when i had 15 years old since then i became fan of them and i saw them the first time on july 17 2003 i thought that would be great when i could see them performing live what i saw that day was just beautiful they really know what it means be a musician not just be a fucking rockstar theres a lot of them this days PLEASE COME BACK TO MEXICO AGAIN

Peace Brother Jerome Watkins | 7/11/2009, 4:57 pm EST

yo, yo, yo, -listen up, when “The Music Authority” graces any Rolling Stone Blog, I am “Brutha J”, a well repected Poet & Musician in my own right- y’all need to get over Pearl Jam, because the greatest Band in Concert today, is AC/DC, whether you like it or not, Black Crows, and Papa Roach, also rule!!!
if you have nothing pertinent to say, then get the hell out of here, cause I’m not having it.
I would NOT waste my money on a Pearl Jam Concert, and that’s the bottom libe, cause Peace Brother Jerome Watkins says so, you’re dismissed!

Anonymous | 7/11/2009, 5:17 pm EST

Karma | 7/11/2009, 5:20 pm EST

Kicked in the nads | 7/11/2009, 5:26 pm EST

To all the Target cracks, just wait and see how cheap you’ll be able to buy it for. It’s a good thing dummies.

shank | 7/11/2009, 8:05 pm EST

I never saw Phish but I’ve heard all their albums and it’s hard to believe they could be better than Pearl Jam when only Farmhouse has any decent material on it.

RAD | 7/11/2009, 11:16 pm EST

saw PJ for the 1st time in 1994 and have seen them 6 times since. they rock!!!! there is no better rock and roll band. however no east coast shows?????? what’s up with that?

John Ford/Jammer RE: “pearl jam is the u2 of america”

REM was always the U2 of America and that’s an insult to REM. Pearl Jam is the Oasis of America and that’s a huge insult to Pearl Jam. Let’s see, where else can we take this?

I Love PJ! Ive seen them so many times. I also like Phish and think they are a great live band, but no way in hell do Phish songs compare to Pearl Jam songs. Pearl Jam is better hands down. Live it can be a toss up since Phish can jam but Pearl Jam has better songs and Vedder is coolcer then Trey!

Greendale | 7/13/2009, 3:44 pm EST

Pearl Jam’s ticket prices are starting to get pretty high….

everyone needs to relax | 7/17/2009, 6:56 pm EST

donny your dumb….brother louie you should go away…

pearl jam rules!

as if | 7/19/2009, 6:43 pm EST

counting crows??? really??? big yellow taxi remake and mr. jones?? give me a break!

pearl jam has an entire library of music, real music. not that other musicians shouldn’t be appreciated, but come on…if you have any taste in music or have truly listed to pj’s catalog you’d be crazy to say that the counting crow’s are superior…whats the singer’s name anyway??? oh yeah, mr. courtney cox…or mr. jennifer anniston — thats his claim to fame! pj band members are in it for their music and fans, not to be as someone already said “rock stars”

as if | 7/19/2009, 6:48 pm EST

and one more thing…pj is not the pre-packaged crap that can be marketed to droves of people just because they fit a certain look, etc…they’ve earned every single penny threw hard work and superior music!

mark | 7/20/2009, 12:29 am EST

are you sayin there only comin to the south for the surf? what about all there fucking fans down here!!!!

ryno | 7/20/2009, 2:08 am EST

plz come to christchurch/massive fan

Thomas | 7/20/2009, 12:09 pm EST

Awesome to a genuine band still keeping it together and just as creative as ever.

And I don’t think they’re playing Australia just for the surf. I’m pretty sure Eddie could just fly there anytime he wants to for that.

offhegoes | 7/20/2009, 7:40 pm EST
