Who Is Michael Jackson Memorial Performer Shaheen Jafargholi?

7/7/09, 3:58 pm EST

He tackled a tough one, delivering a haunting performance of Smokey Robinson’s “Who’s Lovin’ You,” a song made famous by the Jackson 5, before a world stage of more than one billion viewers during this afternoon’s Michael Jackson memorial service at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. But who was that dapper-looking 12-year-old who thanked Jackson “for blessing me and every single individual on this Earth with his amazing music?”

It was Shaheen Jafargholi, a Welsh-Iranian singer from Swansea, Wales, who caught Jackson’s eye during the season three finals of the U.K. television hit Britain’s Got Talent. (Check out photos from the Jackson memorial here.) The young singer took the stage alongside big names like Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Usher and Mariah Carey. His performance today was a repeat of one he gave during the TV show, and according to reports, Jackson caught a clip of Jafargholi’s cover on YouTube. Jackson later asked the young performer to join him during his 50-gig stint at London’s O2 Arena, a spate of comeback shows that was slated to launch July 13th.

Jafargholi, who was defeated by a dance group and the now infamous Susan Boyle during the talent series, was personally approached by Jackson’s family to sing at the memorial service, according to reports, because they were aware of how impressed Jackson was with his performance.

Before his rise to prominence on Britain’s Got Talent, Jafargholi appeared in a couple of television shows on U.K. television, and even toured on stage as a young Michael Jackson in “Thriller – Live.”

Jan | 7/7/2009, 6:18 pm EST

He lives just a half hour away from where I live. I always thought he was robbed of the Britain’s got talent 2009 competition. I am a huge fan of Michael and was so very proud that Wlaes was represented so well.Good luck for the future Shaheen, but remember sometimes you have to pay a price for fame and fortune so be wise and surround yourself with people who you can trust with your life always.

Jan | 7/7/2009, 6:20 pm EST

My own tribute to Michael:

Michaels Story

His childhood was forsaken
Fame and fortune was a must
No school or normal pastimes
Into the limelight he was thrust
From those who claimed to love him
To those who loved to hate
They couldn’t see the lost child
Who’s talent would be his fate

He gave us so much pleasure
A star, a real icon
He rearranged the music
A new era had it’s dawn
He changed the path of lyric
Made the world his dancing stage
But in his niaevete
His critics he did enrage

Lost and lonely in his own world
Normality just a wish
He created a place of love
Where pain would be banished
But every act of love and grace
This man-child did bestow
Was tainted by the people
Who would mar his very soul

His life was bared before us
Every move on view to see
The jibes and comments hurt him
Left him broken, no self esteem
They hounded and they cut him
Left him bleeding in the road
Misunderstood and innocent
They added to the load

He faced them with so much courage
A warrior of grit and steel
He played to them and gave them
What they didn’t want to hear
An extravaganza
A new sight to behold
The comeback he so yearned for
So brave and very bold

But God he had a new plan
A place of gentle rest
For this soul He loved so dearly
And wanted just to bless
So as in life, he left us
Softly, didn’t make a sound
Just gently moonwalked from the room
To where angels are around

Then the great big heart stopped beating
Rhythmic feet will dance no more
A unique voice stilled forever
His soul now free to soar
Happiness was elusive
Contentment just a dream
But now the man-child is dancing
In heavens playing fields.

RIP Michael Loved Always, Forgotten Never. Janet South Wales UK

Shaheen – I don’t think there is a person in the whole of the UK that isn’t proud of him and his performance at the memorial and also thanks him for summin up in so few words how many of us feel. A nerve racking moment for anyone, let alone a 12 year old! A memorial to be proud of. x

Shaheen u did the Uk proud, but i pray that you find some fame an success and keep the jackson memory alive. your like the closet thing to the childhood jackson right now for me.

your performance was breathtaking i just hope all the media attention your get is positive unlike poor Mj’s

Eljay | 7/7/2009, 8:01 pm EST

Shaheen, I am an old Jackson Five fan from the US and definitely old enough to be your mother. You rendition of “Who’s Lovin’ You” was the best thing I’ve heard in a long time.

scooby from usa | 7/7/2009, 8:13 pm EST

i was totally amazed when Shaheen was singing and I said to my daughter There is the next one like Michael. This young man is going to carry on what Michael express in his songs. God Bless you Shaheen i will be looking for your 1st record. we even applauded for you with a lighten heart and a SMILE! thank you

Amit.D | 7/7/2009, 8:30 pm EST

I did NOT really think the tribute was good enough! It was a O.K performance by Shaheen Jafargholi (I do consider the pressure performing in front of the world!) but I think he failed to hit the notes in comparison to late M.J as a child, so how can anyone compare the two singers. M.J was not only the king of Pop but dance and music videos.

His elder brother sung a very touching song ‘Smile’

I was touched by the death of M.J but how many laughed at jokes created subsequently after his death, mocking him related to his late media image. As his sister once sung ‘Don’t Know What You Got Till Its Gone’.

He is amazing! The instruments and backup singers were too loud and covering his amazing vocals for his age.

Obviously if MJ invited him on his tour then he is amazing! Loved him since Britain’s Got Talent!

Hilda | 7/7/2009, 9:30 pm EST

Wow, the young and gifted Shaheen Jafargholi, a Welsh-Iranian singer from Swansea, Wales added positive flavor to the memorial of Michael Jackson. My thanks to the Jackson family for inviting him to sing. Shaheen Jafargholi was and still is wonderful. I look forward to seeing and hearing more of him in the future years ahead.

Peter Johngren | 7/7/2009, 9:33 pm EST

Great performance and touching comments at the conclusion. You are an amazing kid, Shaheen. Thank you. What a voice and what a gift you have.

amazing performance under so much pressure!! well done!!

simon lomax | 7/7/2009, 9:41 pm EST

It’s probably unfair for me to say this of the lad but when you listen to somebody like michael jackson sing that song at the age of 10, it becomes apparent just how lacking this boy was. Michael jackson really had a brilliant voice and i’ve not really heard that mentioned too much in any of the eulogies. His voice was like a musical instrument. R.I.P mj

rude people suck | 7/7/2009, 10:37 pm EST

any single person that has the audacity to sit and say that kid can’t sing or wasn’t good enough must be deaf. I’d like one of those people to post something on here of themselves singing.

Shaheen was amazing. I loved his tribute to Michael. Takes alot of courage to sing on stage in front of billions watching. There are some mean people here saying he can’t sing. What a terrible thing to say on a day like this. Real fans here are mourning the loss of a legend. Can’t you be nice one day in your life.

Shaheen’s talent is a gift from the gods above, his incredible voice and presence pierced my heart today. We will be hearing more and more of this child and his great talent in the future! It is no wonder that Shaheen is Michael’s chosen protege. THANK YOU MICHAEL for bringing this unique talent to the attention of the world!!!

Joe-Canada | 7/8/2009, 12:43 am EST

I have read somewhere that he came to US on a short notice and has been rehearsing non-stop.
Doesn’t matter how good he is, he’s just a 12 years old kid. It’s not easy to perform at the large event like this plus in front of a casket of his idol.
He was way better on BGT, still he gave outstanding performance.

Sue | 7/8/2009, 12:48 am EST

Well done, wish you lots of luck.

Nicole | 7/8/2009, 1:10 am EST

I see a lot of comments saying he wasn’t “good enough” for the tribute but the fact of the matter is he is better than he was here. During his audition he hit every single note to perfection. But I’m guessing the young lad doesn’t spend his days singing at his idol’s funeral staring down at his casket. This was a difficult performance for al the performers (as you saw Usher and Jermiane and others break down in tears before they could even finish singing). But this young boy was able to pull it off. It was obvious with the red rings around his eyes that he’d just finished crying. He did a wonderful job considering the pressure and the circumstances.

melbourneCITY | 7/8/2009, 1:20 am EST

Love-love-LOVED your performance!
Saw it on youtube first, about two months ago, pretty awesome to see you perform my favourite song for the WHOLE world to see. Thanks! & RIP Michael Jackson!

Nasim | 7/8/2009, 1:35 am EST

That’s right, its one thing to sing in front of so many people, but to do it in front of your idols casket? That was very hard for the adult singers let alone a 12 year old. Great job Shaheen. Rest in Peace Michael, I love you.

Shaheen was so impressive last night. He really paid good tribute to Michael Jackson by showing his talent and how he was blessed by Michel’s music.I watched the memorial on TV and got so amazed when i heard him sang.I know the boy will go places. MJ will surely be missed by the whole world and Shaheen, do the honor of continuing MJ’s legacy of music. Goodluck to you, we will watch out for you and RIP MJ

John Currie | 7/8/2009, 3:26 am EST

Idiotic to say Shaheen messed up!! Put it into context, his idol had died & he was singing to him in front of a billion people. This kid can sing with such richness, texture & tone. Some people obviously have no understanding of any of the above. He did us Brits proud!

Joly | 7/8/2009, 3:31 am EST

Mr. Harris, Susan Boyle is famous, not infamous, but if the media keeps attacking this innocent lady, you will be infamous.

Claire Head | 7/8/2009, 3:33 am EST

Truly humbling and amazing. Shaheen performed in front of 1 billion people last night and is perhaps the most dignified 12 year old I can think of. I supported him through BGT and sincerely hope this boy goes far. With such confidence and talent, let’s hope the world really is his oyster. Well done xx

Kris – no you are not the only one, sometimes sentiment affects the way people perceive and I suspect that’s what happened here. Shaheen is good, but lets not pretend he is something he is not. He has a good future, and he is a very very good actor as well apparently which will come in handy when his voice breaks. His showbiz career is now a shoe in.

Joly | 7/8/2009, 3:55 am EST

Shaheen did himself proud in honor of his hero. He has always seemed like a nice kid, and will undoubtedly have an excellent career without Mr. Harris inventing undeserved slams at other performers.

Bert | 7/8/2009, 4:22 am EST

Very proud that he’s British. Until his career goes downhill and then I’ll call him Welsh.

sara | 7/8/2009, 4:30 am EST

To the posters posting such irrelevant and hurtful comments about a little 12 year old boy who must have been floored to have been personally invited by the Jackson family, shame on you!! Why compare him to Michael and leave all the other PROFESSIONAL artists out of your comparison?! He was there to pay tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON and NOT to make you happy or judgemental. MJ is probably looking down on you and shaking his head! Shaheen was there because MICHAEL was so IMPRESSED, yes that’s right IMPRESSED by Shaheen’s Youtube clip! I could judge 3 of the performers today by stating it was not one of their better performances or that they were no where near as good as MJ but again, they were there to perform a tribute and not to be judged by critics that probably don’t have half an ounce of talent between them! Obviously Michael Jackson thought he was great, so at the end of the day who cares what you say! Great Job Shaheen. You did yourself, Wales, the UK, the US and most of all MICHAEL very proud! RIP MJ away from all the pessimistic, uncaring and judgemental people on this earth! These people thought Shaheen was not GOOD enough to pay tribute to you, obviously YOU did! You will live forever in our hearts Michael!

Franco | 7/8/2009, 5:05 am EST

When I first saw Shaheen on Brit’s Got Talent I was as gobsmacked as when I first saw Michael as a kid. His diginty & poise transcends his tender years especially since like me he is a Townhill boy – one of the toughest housing estates in the UK. Swansea born poet, Dylan Thomas said – “Swansea is the graveyard of ambition.” But he made it, so did Pete Ham & Spencer Davies. I am so proud of them and of Shaheen – he WILL make it!

IRAN | 7/8/2009, 5:06 am EST

Wonderful poem, Janet from South Wales! Shaheen is a hugely talented young man, I saw him on BGT. I wonder if, in some way, Michal saw himself in young Shaheen – a young immensely talend singer just like Michael had been as a child star.

This kid has NO “heart”. What i mean by that, is yeh, ok, i GUESS he can sing (scream). BUT, he didnt move me. He’s NOT authentic. He’s a wannabe. As far as I’m concerned, a statue coulda been staning there with a soundtrack. Lousy. I hope he NEVER is compared to the likes of a michael Jackson. So what the circumstance or his age or whatever. You’re either a STAR or NOT and he’s NOT!!!!

Cara | 7/8/2009, 10:11 am EST

For any of you who think he wasn’t great, check out Shaheen’s youtube version from his audition for BGT – out of this world. They screwed up the sound/volume for his microphone yesterday. I kept waiting for them to turn it up, knowing that millions of people who had never heard of Shaheen were really missing out on an amazing performance. Check out Shaheen’s first youtube clip, you won’t be disappointed.

Nicole | 7/8/2009, 10:43 am EST

Yes, Kris, apparently you ARE the only one that thought he messed up. He sang it better at Britain’s got Talent, but he did excellent at the memorial as well. For a kid singing over his Idol’s dead body (literally) and watching an entire audience in tears, he did a wonderful job.

Kris | 7/8/2009, 10:56 am EST

Thank you Lori!

For backing me up on my earlier comment. I really thought I was the only one who’s thinking this kid messed up. I really miss MJ and the memorial meant for a lot me. But this kid gave totally no “soulness” to this song. There are more better child singers. He was there only for promoting himself. Why didn’t they invite Jamia Simon Nash instead?
But still…everybody has his own opinion. Hope you all respect mine as I respect yours.

Rest in peace my childhood hero!

Jane | 7/8/2009, 11:08 am EST

I cant believe some of you people, this boy is 12 years old, singing infront of some hugh artists, at his idols memorial. Just think of the emotions that must have been running through him. He did brilliantly and I think this is the start of a fantastic journey for him. You will be eating your words. Michael Jackson himself thought he was brilliant, other wise why would he be there.

Fi | 7/8/2009, 11:39 am EST

Saw Shaheen on the Britain’s Got Talent tour and he was awesome. For a 12 year old to sing so well in that sort of atmosphere was amazing. To everyone who criticized his performance, I think MJ was a far better judge of talent than you are. If he thought Shaheen was good enough to perform at his concerts then who are we to question him? Well done Shaheen! It was a briiliant performance and a wonderful to tribute to a great man.

Kris | 7/8/2009, 11:44 am EST

Who cares what some dude named Kris thinks anyway? I’m mean…he’s a fly on the wall. Unimportant. Totally!

Shaheen was amazing! For anyone to be able to sing while holding back tears and being under so much pressure, is amazing! Shaheen was asked by Jackson’s family to perform. He did not put himself on that stage. He was asked to be there because MJ himself thought he was an awesome performer and saw the amazing talent in this kid. MJ can never be replaced, he was the best and will always be! A true legend!!!! Weather Shaheen makes it big or not, just to be recongnized by a legend is a huge step, to be asked to perform on MJ’s tour is even better, but to be asked to perform at MJ’s memorial is something Shaheen will never forget, it was a true blessing and he will hold on to that forever!RIP Michael Jackson!!!

Derrek | 7/8/2009, 12:57 pm EST

This kid was AMAZING! And to all of you saying that he is not a star or he should not have performed. Whatever you haters are saying is ridiculous! Michael would have wanted him there. MJ thought he was amazing as well. Or else why would he want him on a “This Is It” tour…!?! Right? Think before you speak, you sound a little smarter that way.

Mona daS | 7/8/2009, 1:00 pm EST

He was amazing. He has a powerful voice for such a young person. He was very impressive. WOW!!!!!!!

Me | 7/8/2009, 1:11 pm EST

Shaheen did very well. Waaaaaaay better Mariah! Everyone has there ups, downs and even in betweens. It’s all in the ear of the beholder. In Michael’s ears, there were more ups than downs. That’s what really matters. If this kid was soooo horrible, Why did Michael want Shaheen to join him and perform in his last tour? This kid has a bright future ahead of him. Long Live the King! If you don’t like his music, You can “Beat it!”

Derrek | 7/8/2009, 1:16 pm EST

That was well said “ME”. You said it better than I did I believe ha ha. R.I.P. MJ!

Wow, that kid was totally awesome!! And for you people to actually make a mean remark to that absolutely talented kid is just rude and wrong. He’s 12 years old people and very talented. Let’s see you idiots who had something negative to say, go up there and do what he did!! Yeah, didn’t think so!! He sang like an angel and did an awesome job!! Michael would of been proud!! RIP Michael, miss u so much!!

Zailan Razak | 7/8/2009, 1:24 pm EST

Excellent job Shaheen…such a young age with such a mature phrasing & singing!!!…Good luck in your future and I know you will be a big star like your idol someday!!!…HOPE TO GIG WITH YOU!!!!..from Malaysia

Amy T | 7/8/2009, 1:27 pm EST

It amazes me how some people are so bitter and twisted that they are unable to acknowledge talent, maturity and grace.

Shaheem was truly amazing yesterday -he did better than what accomplished musicians and entertainers on such big platforms have done given his very limited experience AND he was singing in front of some of the most talented people on earth…! (thats bigger than any audition!)Even his manner and choice of words on an interview with a news station afterwards left me in awe as he spoke about his experience and his desire to offer tribute to MJ through his performance -displaying maturity beyond his years.

To all those negative people who have criticised this young man’s performance – all i can say is shame on you – you are blind, unkind and unjustifiably ruthless.

erby | 7/8/2009, 1:27 pm EST

Jennifer his gift is from GOD, only one God and that is the one that created all of us and this beautiful earth.
Michael J was a great talent and I hope he did know the one and only God. I think during his days of torment that he probably had a good many rap sessions with our Lord. Followers of Christ can never be perfect but we can sure love Jesus and try to be like Him.
The only way to heaven is through Jesus and I have heard some things that give me hope that Michael knew Christ. If he did he can certainly rest in peace. May God bless MJ family and friends and all of his fans.

Be for real people. You don’t ever put a 12 year old child down like that. He’s not trying to sound like MJ, he just love his music. This kid was great. He put tears in my eyes and so much love in my heart for him. God will provide for him.

Krystal | 7/8/2009, 1:50 pm EST

This kid was great.

And I wonder, if he did such a terrible job, why did everyone in attendance grant him a standing ovation???

He is an amazing talent and seems like a great kid all around. I hope he goes far, good luck to you kid. :)

Universal concept of the World. We all luv MJ.,however, we all did nothing to PROTECT this HUMANITARIAN. Now all of you work to make MJ’s vision come true. This will be the GIFT the world(owes)can give to MJ. Come together! Make PEACE, HOLD NO CONTEMPT FOR ANY HUMAN THAT GOD HAS CREATED.

Shame on those of you could not see what this young man stand for, he was not there to compete with MJ, he was there to tribute and say final goodbye to his hero.
He has great voice, he sang with passion, with limited stage experience and vocal training he had, standing on that stage among the big names he outstanding performance.
Good luck young man.

Ren | 7/8/2009, 2:53 pm EST

MJ’s mini-me.

Donna | 7/8/2009, 2:55 pm EST

Lori and Kris and any other people out there intent on slagging Shaheen off. If you love MJ as much as you seem to think you would understand that the reason Shaheen sang in front f millions of people, probably intimidated by the huge names there and the fact MJ was right in from of him, was because Michael Jackson WOULD HAVE WANTED IT!!! MJ was a fan of Shaheen. It wasn’t an audition it was simply a song sung out of respect for his idol at the request of the family. Seriously. Some people are unbelievable.

Saad Aziz | 7/8/2009, 3:09 pm EST

I bet all of u haters are low life and scum bugs that have nothing to do but to judge little kids, who is simply just missing their idol

i think M.J. left his torch to this new fresh face.this young boy was so amazing.i cried trough the all service,i grew up on MJ era.he was a genious,w/a lot of shadows following him.so many good things he did,and so many wrong.but we are not perfect,so we can say whatever we want to say.but he was the best artist and dancer on any given day.// so rest in peace.the lord will take care of you.we will miss u.but u r save in a better place..no more pain…god be w/your family..love yaa son…

MSOF Mustard Seed Of Faith | 7/8/2009, 3:49 pm EST

The young man used the talent God gave him to the fullest!! What an honor to be chosen. (Many are called, but few are chosen) I believe that MJ and his family spoke LIFE into this young man. It all begins with a seed planted. We must cultivate our youth and watch them grow into what GOD intended them to be, not man. Only He knows our journey and will guide us through it. Keep growing in the positive, young man, and YOU WILL go far!!
We love you Michael Jackson and know that your work is not in vain. God Bless the family and children. Rest in God’s perfect peace my brother!! We miss you, but will NEVER forget you!!

you were amazing shaheen and it was very moving and everyone knows the reasons for you being there… you are the future and that is not going to take anything away from micheal jacksons past and success!!!

Samantha | 7/8/2009, 4:15 pm EST

This young man was amazing. How terrific that MJ chose this young talent to be part of his show. What was even more amazing was to see MJ’s children sing We are the World. What a great message for all of us. Pay attention to the messages MJ had. MJ was put on this earth for a reason and he carried his torch and paid a big price with controversial opinions that most of us cannot relate. I am not sure I would be too normal, if people chased me and grabbed me all time and wanted a piece of me. Let’s remember that MJ was not only a genious artist but a father, a brother a son. RIP Michael. No matter what the final outcome was of the end of your life here on earth you have touched many people on this earth and will continue to do so. Let’s learn from him and keep the negative thoughts away from our world. Now perhaps all his haters will leave him alone. He is in God’s hands and he is the only judge for all of us.

Vess | 7/8/2009, 4:22 pm EST

I thought this young man was just awesome! If Michael Jackson was including him in his tour, he was truly deserving to sing at his memorial service. He did a GREAT JOB! He will be a great performer one day soon. He had a great send off for his future there at the funeral. Think of all of the greats that were there to sign him up immediately. May God bless the Jackson Family and Michael’s three pretty little children. It is so clear that he was a great and loving father to them. He was simply their Daddy, and I know he truly loved them from his heart. I have never believed any of the nasty and hateful things said about Michael. I just DESPISE that congressman Peter King for referring to Michael as a low life, to me Peter King is the low life, and a racist one at that!!! In this Country you are innocent until proven guilty, but with people like Peter King, if you are black you are guilty no matter what the jury and court says. I hate racist low lifes in public office like him. May he soon go to hell himself with his racist hatred he is spreading around, Yes he is a low life, and someone need to expose him and bring his dirt out of the closet! I am sure there are those that can expose his dirt!

Michael Jackson was a dream and we are awake now,we lost so much that my broken heart is aching,MJ was our hero, our soul,an angel who tried every way to teach us how to love ,to care, to respect and to live in peace, we miss him for ever,we believed it once he was the king of our hearts, let us live to love and live in peace, all that michael ever wished.

helsbels | 7/8/2009, 5:15 pm EST

What morons some of you are. Shaheen is amazingly talented and did a FLAWLESS rendition of who’s loving you. If you can’t see that then you have serious hearing problems and should get your ears checked.

For a 12 year old with such an enormous talent, he is so down to earth and isn’t trying to be anyone but himself. As a society we should be helping kids like him along and not putting them down, why do you think there are so many idiots on the streets now – they had no one to tell them they were good at something!

Shaheen made the UK proud!!!

Big Bear | 7/8/2009, 5:19 pm EST

I was so moved by Little Paris. Now you can see, after all had been said and done, Michael Jackson was truely a good father to his children. His legacy will lives on forever. Nobody really knows the extend of how he has impacted us until he is gone…
Michael, you will live in us forever…God Bless!

It’s a shame all you grown folks are putting down this child like this. He is just a child, personally i did not see his performance, but what if he did not do that great considering the circumstance, can we all just praise him nonetheless? I thought that’s what adults normally do to encourage children. I can tell you whimps are nothing but evil and probably don’t have any children urselves, if you all have children, i really feel for them, because obviously you all are not the best parents. Good parents encourage children no matter what, as long as its something positive they are doing. I hope this poor child won’t see all these cruel comments. You all are cruel and need to keep ur comments to urselves. And for that idiot who is calling MJ a pedophile i believe you are just a hater and i am almost sure you are a pedophile urself (it takes one to know the other). Just like that congressman King or whatever his name is who called MJ all those ungodly names, he looks like a real pedophile if you ask me. He should be ashamed of himself. He is no better than that hater who went and shot up the Holocaust Memorial. Haters need a life! God bless MJ and may his soul rest in peace! Who are you all to judge? God is the ultimate Judge, so forget all u haters…get a life!

Jamie Foxx | 7/8/2009, 6:10 pm EST

Shaheen is a prodigy!

His rendition of the song was as good as young MJ both at Britain’s Got Talent and the MJ Memorial.

Kris and Lori don’t know anything about music.

Shaheen’s got fantastic flow and delivery.

He’s got more soul and swagger than most grownups in the music industry.

He’s a superstar already.

Justice | 7/8/2009, 6:22 pm EST

Little dude rocked it and everybody knows it. Why would MJ have invited him to tour. He is gifted and respectively sang at his idol’s memorial. Some people can’t ever be happy and like to keep mess going. Show some class and respect MJ and this young talented young man. Thank you Michael for your gift and message of love, generosity (he gave til it hurt) and humanity. YOU ARE THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER EVER. I AM SO GLAD I LIVED TO SEE YOU.

carolyn | 7/8/2009, 7:02 pm EST

Kris,
I agree with you. My grandaughter who is 10 years old noticed that he couldn’t sing also. But, maybe it was emotions. After all MJ had to see the talent.

Sara | 7/8/2009, 7:07 pm EST

I think the reason why these people are being disrespectful to him is because they’re racists against Iranians. Some people have no heart.

stagefright4 | 7/8/2009, 7:07 pm EST

Shaheen was great! I immediatley went on line to see who this young man was and where I could purchase his CD…awesome!

Ambrose Opara | 7/8/2009, 7:14 pm EST

Shaheen as a talented boy who’s gifted with a good voice and courage. Not many adults can stand before a huge live audience to recite a poem of five lines without faltering. For MJ (may his soul rest in peace)to have recognised the talent in Shaheen, then we are yet to see another star in the making if he works harder at it and is well guided and managed. I do not see any reason for any comparisons. No one can fill MJ’s shoes. As for stars, many are yet to be born and Shaheen looks like one of them.

Socks | 7/8/2009, 7:28 pm EST

I watched and thought Shaheen was very amazing. To bad that this person Kris and other no talent plus people couldn’t say nice things about a young child. He was asked by MJ to sing with him and others so he had to have the talent
MJ’s family thought so also. Say are any of you people who are throwing stones in the music business? Have you made a big wow in what you want to do? I think not as you all are so down in the dumps whith your advice.Like ‘Shaheen in the USA!!!’

Gavyn | 7/8/2009, 8:03 pm EST

Although I felt the arrangement of the backing singers was not great the kid done a great job.

Im enjoying reading the adulation that shaheen is recieving and its well deserved

Every one that got up on the stage had been touched by A Master of music, and the entire world. When GOD puts such an artist on the Earth he knew that others would follow. Micheal Jackson was my way of moving forward when I was little. My father was mean. Though it was tuff I knew when I went to the school dances I could cut loose. I was the first white female in my school to do the moon walk. I was all ways the first on the dance floor. That day means more now. 1983 was the best year for us kids music came to life. We are all born to do somthing great. I was born to cut hair, sing, and dance. Micheal made it great for all who love freedom of exspession. We lost alot of great people that week. Ed McMahn, Farra ,Micheal, Billy Mase, then an older actor who realy lived his life he played in Street Car Disire, and T.V show Streets of San Francisco. My heart goes out to all Familys. My heart is still sad from loosing My father last year on July 31st 2008. So all of this is very hard. I hope that we all just remember the good in every thing Micheal did, and let his children heal. BM

Yes Kris, you are the only one who thinks this kid mess up the song totally..maybe you are deaf? or you can’t appreciate beautiful things..or you can sing for us now so we can judge your beautiful singing voice? Shaheen is a child with enormous talent, maybe his voice was a little bit shaky last night, because i think it is difficult for him to sing in front of MJ’s casket, but it is a beautiful rendition of Michael’s song.

Kris, if Shaheen was doing bad that night..well can you do the same as he did? i dont think so..not even close maybe…

To be standing there on a huge stage in front of some legendary entertainers with live performance broadcasted by so many major tv channel..was something not so many adult can do..yet he’s still able to pull-out his amazing soulfull voice…not even a single finger shaking…it’s a WOW!!! The song he sang was a hard task but he delivered it outstandingly. Two Tumbs Up for Shaheen!!!!!

ps. Kris I suggest you to wear a glass and go check your ear….

Angel | 7/8/2009, 9:02 pm EST

But after seeing so many comments just eulogizing him and comparing him to MJ i heard both the videos of MJ and Shaheen on youtube. i hate to say this but atleast his performance in this song is no way near to what Michael did almost 38 yrs ago. Shaheen is just decent/good but not great may be due to the immense nature of the moment. i certainly will reserve my opinion of comparing him to MJ for future. I am not an expert but atleast the feel you get by hearing to both versions is incomparable.

LJ in Phx | 7/8/2009, 9:07 pm EST

I didn’t see Shaheen perform at MJ’s memorial so, out of curiosity, I just watched his Britain’s Got Talent performance. Awesome! What the hell is wrong w/ you people who say the kid can’t sing? Like MJ couldn’t sing……that kid has a God-given gift. Did ya ever stop to think knowing the entire freakin’ world was watching while he sang in front of MJ’s casket might have had the poor kid just a little bit nervous??????? He seems like such a bright, happy, personable kid, too……God help him to not follow some of the paths MJ did.

Dennis | 7/8/2009, 9:12 pm EST

Shaheen did a fantastic job. How many other 12 year olds can travel across the world on short notice, be in the spotlight on stage and sing at an emotional memorial service honoring their idol in front of a billion or more people? Music is international no matter what your heritage is. He has many years ahead to develop his own style of music and follow his dreams.

My condolences to the Jackson Family. Micheal will be missed. May Allah have him in his god’s kingdom for he was a very speacial man. Even the world cry too. It is so clear that he was a great and loving father to his three pretty little children. He was simply their best Daddy..May Your Body And Soul Rest In Peace!

sharon scotland uk | 7/8/2009, 10:13 pm EST

shaheen you were fantastic.Sent a shiver down my spine when you started to sing.Loved you on BGT ,you should have won.MJ would have been so happy with your performance.Made me proud to be british for once.xx

when michael jackson popped into my life 45 years ago, he started singing and i kenw that he would be my favorite singer forever as we both aged together. i went through some trmatic phases in my life as a single mother to 5 kids, mjs music kept me out of depression. i was able to dance and clean while singing to thr children. it was such happy times. i love you mj,always have and always will. one day we will meet in heaven and we will all sing together, “wii you be there?”

That kid was amazing!! His future as a singer is going to be totally mind blowing!

Shaheen with your voice you can unite IRAN & THE USA KIDS LIVE WHAT THEY HEAR!U R AMAZING.

Gerard Talary | 7/8/2009, 11:08 pm EST

The article says “Jafargholi, who was defeated by a dance group and the now infamous Susan Boyle”.
Why is Susan Boyle ‘infamous’?
Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot were infamous, but Susan Boyle???
Ridiculous use of the word.

angelalley | 7/8/2009, 11:11 pm EST

Shahleen you were awsome. Kris did you knock MJ when he was 12 and singing I seriously doubt it. Mother always taught us if you can’t say something nice don’t say a thing at all.

Ginette William | 7/8/2009, 11:14 pm EST

The Kid was fabulous; the young Lady that sang the song “We are the World,” was marvelous…Michael, you are amazing, always will be, now that you’re in the world of Spirit, help us, my friend, to open the eyes of the people blinded by ignorance and wickedness into beauty and love and respect for all for we are the world. RIP MJ love you 4ever for your purety of heart.

nona | 7/8/2009, 11:15 pm EST

Great talent. Very well done Shaheen. Hope you always remain true to your talent and yourself.

Mindy | 7/8/2009, 11:28 pm EST

Complete moron! This was a tribute and memorial service to MJ. I don’t think I remember seeing any place where it was a competition and this child was being rated or evaluated for his performance. There are obviously those here that need to step away from the keyboard and reevaluate themselves because their level of thinking is clearly lacking. Also, one would think if someone was going to evaluate and then bash how well they thought this child performed this song during a memorial service, they would take the time to articulate their own words correctly.

Anonymous | 7/8/2009, 11:36 pm EST

…and MJ would haved said “well done Shaheen, you have made me proud”

Sara | 7/9/2009, 12:11 am EST

let’s not just the child, he just rendered a song for michael and we know michael will be glad to hear him..
rest in peace michael..

Marga | 7/9/2009, 2:17 am EST

Considering what Shaheen had to face (flying all the way from his hometown to sing in front of a crowd of thousands — not in a concert, mind you, but in a memorial service for one of the world’s superstars), he didn’t do a bad job at all. I’m pretty sure this kid’s really all that since Michael himself invited him to join the “This Is It” tour.

Well done, Shaheen!

Laila Nevarez | 7/9/2009, 2:22 am EST

How sad this world we live in. Where we tear one another down, rather than life each other up! Shaheen you did MJ justice. You have a God given talent, and we are in awe of your beautiful gift! I hope you show this world just how amazing you are. Mad props to your heritage, and to Whales!!! Love, Laila

Salwa Ansari | 7/9/2009, 2:55 am EST

MJ honoured us again by letting your voice surrounds us. All the best to you Shaheen!

Jamal Darius | 7/9/2009, 5:57 am EST

A couple of good things to point out!

1. Micheal Jackson was the ultimate performer of our generation, r.i.p.

2.The little Welsh/ Irainian kid ( don’t matter if he was from pluto) Shaheen was invited by the Jackson clan to perform and he did so with a standing ovation.

3.The people from Iran should be proud, don’t you people watch the news as see what is going on over there, they need help with their country, not silly comments, they want freedom of speech like everyone else.

A couple of bad things to point out!

1. Jamie Foxx’s ignorant racist statement ( yeah that’s right, it works both ways you know ) “We want to celebrate this black man – he belongs to us – and we shared him with everybody else.” If a white person said ” John Lennon was white and he belonged to us” they would be hung drawn and quartered by every black person in the world.

2.The Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson turning a sad event into a race issue, there was only one Martin Luther King and he was a gentleman and these two have been in his shadow ever since,Slavery was abolished in America on December 18, 1865, Today’s white population can’t be held responsible for they forefathers actions, it is now 2009, I am ashamed that these idiots represent my race by using the giant chip they keep on their shoulder to use as a race card all the time, so wake up world and let’s start cleaning up the mess, Micheal cared so much about this issue.

3. And finally, I am an African American but i think with a clear mind, and it don’t matter what background, culture, minority you are from ,our shit is the same color!!!!!!!

Rest in Peace Micheal, and well done Shaheen!! Peace!!!!!!!!!!!

Sonia | 7/9/2009, 11:23 am EST

you were greatttt shaheen,
and u may not know it but every iranian who saw you was very very
proud of you.u’ve got lots of fans here.

Pastor Sam O. Adeoye | 7/9/2009, 12:31 pm EST

I get to know Micheal Jackson in the 70s, around 1978 / 1979 and ever since then he has been my hero. To many people’s surprise, whenever they enter my library and see Micheal’s pictures on my wall, they will ask, “what is Micheal’s picture doing in a pastor’s study room?” and l will say to them “Micheal preached the gospel of Jesus more than any pastors or churches in the world. He preached the message of LOVE, and that is the message of Jesus Christ, that is the Message of the Kingdom of God and that is the Heart of God: LOVE” When churches all across the world was preaching tithe and offerings, he was preaching the message that heal the world and give hope to so many people across the world. I wish he is still alive. I wish he live forever. I love Micheal and he will for ever remain my hero. Sam O. Adeoye +2348023596503

Pam | 7/9/2009, 2:20 pm EST

Shaheen Jafargholi´s performance was absolutely outstanding and moving. This was the best way to honour Michael Jackson. This boy is extremely talented and it´s amazing that a child can express a song with so much soul. Hopefully he´ll have a better childhood than Michael Jackson.

Jeanie | 7/9/2009, 2:49 pm EST

Wow, Shaheen, that was a great performance! This kid has TALENT, GRACE and CLASS. I was impressed with his voice as well as his interview. He is articulate and has got CLASS. I am from LA. Simon Cowell should intoduce this kid to the music industry in the USA. I will be the first one to buy his CD.

Beth | 7/9/2009, 4:09 pm EST

Shaheen .. it seems to me that the spirit of Michael Jackson has annointed you to carry forth his torch. He must have recognized that in you when he heard your voice.

And the irony that Shaheen is also both Western and Iranian is an enlightening point to those of us who are not.

Yes, we do need to spread more love in the world and Michael and Shaheen are ambassadors to this, as we all should be.

But let’s not be harsh with those who disagree and call them names when they express other viewpoints, because the people who say such things are in need of love too. We may not like what they say, but we must respect diversity. Yes, disagree, but respectfully!

It has been proven time and time again that love and kindness and tolerance is much more effective than confrontations.

We are all shipmates on this planet, all members of one family. Each of us has a purpose and a calling to do something good.

And thank you Michael, Shaneen, and everyone .. for doing your part to spread and share The Love.
The best to you, and our future.

Rob Thomas, Llanelli, Wales | 7/9/2009, 4:25 pm EST

Just gotta say a huge well done to Shaheen. Brilliant performance. Well done. He did Wales proud. We’re only a little country with a big singing voice!

Bec | 7/9/2009, 5:04 pm EST

To Jamal Darius…Words well spoken! It’s nice seeing an African American not using the so-called “Race-card!” So many people are holding on to the past and not seeing how many people want to make the change; e.g. Blacks, whites, Brown, red, etc.!

Sassy | 7/9/2009, 6:41 pm EST

Why are people comparing SHaheen to MJ and arguing about it? MJ must be turning in his grave. He would be horrified to hear all the arguing and debates. MJ 38 yrs ago and Shaheen today have completely different qualities to their voices!!They are both unique and equally talented in their own right. MJ recognised his talent and wanted to give the Shaheen the opportunity he may not otherwise have had. His family simply honoured that wish.Come on people, MJ sang about peace, honour and love, respect his memory, look in the mirror and make the change!!

joel | 7/9/2009, 6:44 pm EST

WHY IS IT ABOUT COLOUR?
IF MJ HAD BEEN WHITE WOULD WE BE BANGING ON ABOUT WHITE MUSIC?
TALENT IS TALENT – i WISH THE BLACK RACISTS WOULD ALL SHUT UP ABOUT BLACK MUSIC, BLACK TALENT, BLACK HERITAGE…
WHITE PEOPLE DON’T GO ON ABOUT WHITE MUSIC ETC, – WE WOULDN’T DARE – IN CASE WE OFFENDED PEOPLE OF A DIFFERENT COLOUR!!!!!

Sorry this boy is not my cup of tea. He is not original. I dont think he should have been at mj’s memorial!! He was put on stage to be promoted, to make money of course. Shame on whoever put him on stage, totally disgraceful.

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER MICHAEL JACKSON!!!!!!

coachmaddog | 7/10/2009, 11:58 am EST

I hope MJ wasn’t sleeping with him, too.

Anonymous | 7/10/2009, 11:59 am EST

NEVER NEVER NEVER

Anonymous | 7/10/2009, 12:01 pm EST

Anonymous | 7/10/2009, 12:17 pm EST

I dont believe mj was watching this boy on you tube at all. Michael isnt here to say he did or didnt. This is all about money! and in my opinion he wasnt that good. Not appealing at all in my eyes

clark kent | 7/10/2009, 4:16 pm EST

there can be a lot of contributory factors why one may not be able to give 100% during performance. there’s pressure, environment, emotions and the like. mariah carey wasnt able to sing perfectly too because of her emotion over the loss of a friend. when the kid met MJ and was presented opportunity, i am pretty sure he already imagined how his life would become but when MJ died, some of the kid’s dreams died too. surely performing in the memorial of a man who gave this kid a high hopes is never easy but he did his best. he performed well.

so for the adults who should understand this kid’s situation better, i hope you will reconsider your thoughts. if the kid’s performance did not meet your standards, just remember that the King of Pop, our idol gave credence to this kid.

khalida malik, Pakistan. | 7/10/2009, 4:38 pm EST

great job shaheen, you were marvelous,, even MJ must be happy at his choice of talent.

Anonymous | 7/11/2009, 7:04 am EST

i agree in my opinion i dont believe mj watched shaheen for days on you tube. Is all about money, link this boy to mj and see the dollars rolling in!
mj not here to say he did or didnt

Money money anything for money

wales | 7/11/2009, 8:04 am EST

i think that those who criticize shaheen forget that he is a 12 year old child. he was invited to mj’s memorial by the jackson family. He will not become a famous singer because of the memorial but because he is an awesome singer in his own right. Everyone in wales especially swansea are really proud of him. And those of us who know him and his family personally send him all our love.

Anonymous | 7/11/2009, 8:25 am EST

he is just another impersonator and didnt even win britains got talent so i ive heard,no idea why he was at mjs memorial maybe simon cowell was behind it all

anyway well done to him for trying

Simon Davies | 7/12/2009, 8:10 am EST

Gotta laugh at some of the comments here, after psychologically profiling the most of the people on here i have come to the conclusion that many are from his school who are jealous of his fame, fortune and above all Talent , don’t worry kids, you will all have a job when you leave school flipping burgers in Mcdonalds, while Shaheen his sitting comfortably in his Bell Air Apartment.

Well done son and good luck in the Future and don’t let the press get to you, the world is full of sad people and it looks like most of them post here : )

Go Shaheen | 7/12/2009, 12:00 pm EST

People – MJ had been watching BGT. It was already in the news that he wanted Diversity (the dance group that won BGT) to perform with him in London, so he would likely have seen Shaheen’s performance on the same show, too. Shaheen performed earlier in a tribute Thriller show tour as a young MJ. His performance wasn’t that as good during the memorial as during the BGT shows, but think about it – this kid absolutely idolized Michael Jackson, loved and performed his music, was working very hard to be successful like him, was looking forward to meeting and performing with him, and now instead had to sing at his memorial service. How could anybody be “on”/in top form with that? Even Mariah Carey apologized for her performance because she was so emotional, and she is an experienced performer. Watch his earlier youtube original audition of BGT. He is an incredibly talented singer.

Susanne | 7/12/2009, 3:59 pm EST

I can’t believe people here are critising this 12 year old boy… It’s already clear that MJ knew about this child, and I’m sure if any of you actually saw him on BGT or like me actually went to the BGT live tour just days before he flew out to perform at MJs Memorial it’s clear that he is extremley talented… and has improved greatly since his auditions on the show! However to go from performing from 15 million uk viewers in a talent contest to performing at one of the worlds most talented musicians funeral, who happened to be an idol of yours oh and not forgetting 1 billion viewers world wide I think all of you wouldn’t be on top form either.

Leave the kid alone, he did a great thing and hes an amazing singer!

Mr.J | 7/12/2009, 9:42 pm EST

Sharheen is not MJ and will never be. But Sharheen is a star in the making and he will go far.
For someone this young who had only 24 hours arrived to LA on Monday, performed Tuesday morning.
For a 12 years old, he is pretty darn good!

alana | 7/12/2009, 10:52 pm EST

Jeanie | 7/18/2009, 4:41 pm EST

I love this kid, Shaheen. He has so much talent. The negative comments seem to have come from jealous people. Reach for the STARS, Shaheen like your IDOL, Michael Jackson. Do not let negative comments get to you. Your talent and poise will bring you BIG TIME SUCCESS. Love from LA, USA.

ve | 7/18/2009, 7:55 pm EST

this kids voice is mind blowing, as i sat there in the staples center listening to him sing i was amazed such a beautiful voice from such a young kid… I hope he goes far

poohdog | 7/19/2009, 4:17 am EST

This boy has an awesome talent and thanks to the Jackson family for inviting him to sing at the funeral of their beloved Michael who apparently recognised and acknowledged this new talent before his untimely death,

Annemarie | 7/19/2009, 2:07 pm EST

Ya’ll should check out shaheens audition for britains got talent, he wasnt actually trying to impress with his ability to sing michael jacksons song, it shows how good he is if he thinks that his secong choice performance is this one

I watched the memorial with my mum and I started crying when Shaheen started singing. I watched EVERY BGT episode and I think he had the MOST talent there. I’m SO glad he was on the Memeorial for his idol

BritGirl | 8/30/2009, 7:37 pm EST

Shaheen really was Brilliant, I still remeber his first Audition on Britain’s Got Talent, he’s so cute, he reminds me of my Lil Cousin. He’s got a awesome voice, hopefully, he will make it Big, Thanks to the Late Micheal Jackson.
