Aerosmith Postpone Two More Concerts, Brad Whitford’s Return

Steven Tyler’s undisclosed injury has forced Aerosmith to postpone two more concerts — tonight’s show in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the band’s July 9th show in Charlotte, North Carolina — the group announced yesterday on their official Website. Both dates, postponed due to an “artist injury,” will be rescheduled soon, according to the site. As Rock Daily reported yesterday, guitarist Joe Perry confirmed to fans via Twitter that Tyler was the injured party, writing, “Sincere apologies out 2 all Aero Fans regarding the canceled shows. It really bums me out too- you have no idea. Pray 4 Stevens speedy return.”

The band had previously postponed three shows, bringing the total to five concerts delayed by Tyler’s mystery injury. While the band has confirmed nothing, fans at Aerosmith’s concert in Uncasville, Connecticut, on June 29th reportedly saw Tyler suffer an apparent leg muscle injury during the performance. All shows since the June 29th show have been postponed. As Rolling Stone learned while hanging out with Aerosmith backstage during the band’s recent Boston concert, Tyler frequently stretches before the show in an attempt to avoid such injuries.

Tonight’s postponed show in Raleigh, North Carolina was supposed to feature the return of guitarist Brad Whitford, who sat out the opening dates of the Aerosmith tour with ZZ Top while recovering from surgery after harshly bumping his head while exiting his Ferrari. Bobby Schneck filled in for Whitford during his recovery. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have seemingly gone from “America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band” to “America’s Most Injury Prone Rock and Roll Band,” as numerous accidents, surgeries and other ailments have wreaked havoc on the band members in recent years, forcing Aerosmith to delay recording their new album — a period that will only be elongated while the band makes up rescheduled performances.

Might I suggest they try some Propofol or Demerol. I hear it’s all the rage these days for aches and pains.

Green Eyes | 7/7/2009, 1:07 pm EST

Darn! We have tickets to the show in Charlotte! So will our tickets still be good for the re-scheduled shows? Will they be in the same venues?

anonymous2 | 7/7/2009, 1:09 pm EST

Hmmm. I hope these “postponements” aren’t euphemisms for poor ticket sales. The “artist injury” excuse sounds shady and too vague.

john | 7/7/2009, 1:59 pm EST

Stupid comment… No wonder you posted anonymously.

Hmmm… The Dallas concert is on the 19th, but i’ll be returning from seeing Tool in Denver on that day…

It’d be great for me if they postponed the Dallas show.

poor sales | 7/7/2009, 6:15 pm EST

No doubt this is due to poor sales as everyone is hinting. People are just tired of all these old men strutting about on canes, pucking and pissing all over the stage, ACDC’s all over the place these days, pathetic… it’s all about $$$. Check yourself into a Home Tyler. You had talent once, but your time has past.

Jodie | 7/7/2009, 8:13 pm EST

I’m soooooo hoping they can make the Tampa show. It’s my birthday!!! I have been excited about this for 6 months now!!! Please get better. Please Please Please

Jodie | 7/7/2009, 8:16 pm EST

Dirty Duck | 7/8/2009, 10:17 am EST

There’s always something wrong with steven…every year.
Whatever. I’d rather be reborn and see the old shows. They were so much cooler in the 70’s…

scoobybug | 7/8/2009, 11:35 am EST

Maybe they should all go into protective custody til they can make up all the postponed dates. And the sooner the better, 7/3 at Hershey Park was our concert. And at their ages they shouldn’t delay rescheduling too long.

scoobybug | 7/8/2009, 11:51 am EST

I really hope the Hershey,PA. concert isn’t rescheduled for the 18th of July. Got Tickets to see Paul McCartney at Citi Field, in N.Y. that night. If this should be the case then let me appologize to Aerosmith and ZZ Top in advance, Paul is no spring chicken either ! and the Celebrities are starting to drop like flies. Paul, take your vitamins and I’ll see you the 18th. Steve, maybe you shouldn’t have walked this way. Get Well Soon.

livenationsux | 7/8/2009, 12:34 pm EST

They should just wheel Steven Tyler out in a wheel chair or maybe he could be propped up and given a cane. This tour should be called “Retirement Community Here We Come”.

Connie | 7/8/2009, 1:14 pm EST

I have tickets to the show tomorrow in Charlotte and I am so disapointed that this has been rescheduled. I hope they announce soon when the new date will be.

I don’t think poor ticket sales, at least not the Charlotte one. LiveNation stopped doing specials on the Aerosmith concert, because they were selling so quick.

Thief in the Orchard | 7/8/2009, 9:29 pm EST

Hey lay off Whitford. I also injured my forehead once getting out of my Ferrari. It hurt really bad, and even worse my driver had to use the Bentley for the WHOLE REST OF THE WEEK.

Young and full of Shit | 7/9/2009, 2:43 am EST

You fricken snot nosed punks need to learn some respect. Aerosmith has been recording music and touring for over 37 years and they are just now hitting 60 years old. Every musician alive could only dream of such a great career. Hell, lots of Blues musicians tour well past 80. B.B. King is one example. They will play till the end. Would’nt fuckin You? Let us be so lucky to still be able to enjoy there latest recordings and see
them in concert. ROCK ON!

waiting patiently | 7/9/2009, 10:06 am EST

Has anyone heard if July 11th in Rampa is gonna be postponed?

waiting patiently | 7/9/2009, 10:08 am EST

Oops… meant Tampa…. I’m so aggravated I can’t spell right!

Enzo | 7/9/2009, 1:13 pm EST

These guys have the worst luck ever. Those saying that it is due to poor ticket sales don’t have a clue- these are legitimate injuries. And those saying they should cash it in clearly have never been to an Aerosmith show- best American band ever. Period.

Grandpa | 7/9/2009, 3:56 pm EST

I wish I could see them this tour, unfortunately the homes’ curfew is 10:00pm. Maybe this fall they could do a tour of retirement communities.

Bill | 7/11/2009, 5:23 pm EST

Over hyped- non fan appriciating superstars. made plans for the Tampa show and got one day notice of cancellation. Come on check the rehabs for little stevie

It’s not hush hush anymore with Steve Tyler’s “safari’s” into never never land. Time for Steve to fess up, get more recovery time in, and get back to writing their own killer hard rock songs (like they once upon a time did) instead of hiring some misfits who compose pop music that has made Aerosmith a laughing stock of hard rock.

Rob | 7/13/2009, 9:50 am EST

Missed the notice from live nation. Drove 200 miles round trip and paid a baby sitter for the Tampa show. Not very happy.

Johnny | 7/14/2009, 5:58 am EST

My Wife and I booked a hotel in Tampa for that show (we live over 200 miles away from the Ford Amphitheater – few of the heavier acts play in the venues closer to us in Orlando, FL – I’m guessing this is due to our religious rights presence – Tampa is less repressed). Booked the hotel through an online service, so we could not cancel it. Checked out the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (enjoyed Dave & Busters in Jacksonville more) since we were already in town. This would have been our first Aerosmith show ever. Hope the band can recover from there injuries. Looking forward to seeing Aerosmith live, at least once before they retire.

Daisy Rose | 7/14/2009, 5:23 pm EST

What is it with you anonymous? Have you nothing better to do? If you don’t like the band get off the site and out of our sight!!! What an awful negative person

baba | 8/13/2009, 3:30 pm EST

I hate waiting and waiting for the concert to postpone the dates arhhhhhhhh!

Richard Katcher | 8/17/2009, 4:43 pm EST

Get well soon, Steve Tyler. I hope that you will back on stage in no time. You are the greatest band ever. By the way, can you dedicate my favorite aerosmith song to me: Make It? Thanks!
