Aerosmith Postpone Three Shows Due To Steven Tyler Injury

An unspecified injury to Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has forced the Boston band to postpone their last three shows, Reuters reports. The injury-plagued band postponed their July 1st show in Cincinnati, their July 3rd concert in Hershey, Pennsylvania and their performance last night in Virginia Beach. “Sincere apologies out 2 all Aero Fans regarding the canceled shows. It really bums me out too- you have no idea. Pray 4 Stevens speedy return,” guitarist Joe Perry wrote on his Twitter. Perry later clarified that the shows were postponed, not canceled.

(Go behind the scenes in Boston at Aerosmith’s hometown gig.)

While the band has yet to issue an official statement, Reuters reports that fans at Aerosmith’s June 29th performance say it appeared as if Tyler pulled a leg muscle during the concert. (Tyler frequently stretches backstage to avoid such situations, which Rolling Stone witnessed when we spent time in the singer’s dressing room prior to their homecoming concert in Boston.)

As of right now, Aerosmith are still scheduled to perform tomorrow night, July 7th, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tomorrow’s concert will also be the first to feature guitarist Brad Whitford back in the fold after Whitford required surgery after bumping his head while exiting his Ferrari. Bobby Schneck was filling in during Whitford’s recovery.

Tyler’s injury is the latest in a long list of ailments that have hit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band in recent years, forcing them to delay the recording of their new album. In 2006, Tyler required throat surgery while bassist Tom Hamilton was treated for throat cancer. As Rock Daily previously reported, last year Tyler checked into rehab in order to recuperate from foot surgeries and suffered from pneumonia and Perry needed knee replacement surgery.

Some words of advice to Tyler and the crew: Hang it up…

Shawn Smathers | 7/6/2009, 12:21 pm EST

Jesus Christ, these guys need to give it up. It’s almost a joke now. They should rename the tour ‘The I’m Crippled and Hit My Head On My Ferrari’ TOUR.

batman | 7/6/2009, 1:04 pm EST

Really, If you are concerned about your fans reschedule the concerts now. I drove 3 hours to the Cincinnati show to find out Steven Tyler pulled a groin muscle. After that drive and a cancellation they should pull my groin. LOL

pandora | 7/6/2009, 1:07 pm EST

damn, Steve sure got beat with the ugly stick

pandora | 7/6/2009, 1:08 pm EST

Dianne | 7/6/2009, 3:36 pm EST

Praying for a fast recovery for Steven. Dude has put on so many amazing performances – give him a break folks!

I could only get lawn tickets for Houston, but I am so psyched about seeing my dream-boys for the first time.

Joey – your book ROCKS and it came at a wonderful time for me!

Much love and prayers to my dream-boys!

Jeff | 7/6/2009, 4:35 pm EST

Charlotte and Raleigh have now been postponed, too, according to Live Nation.

Meg | 7/6/2009, 4:55 pm EST

I drove from NH to PA for the Hershey show, and am disappointed but the most important thing is that Steven gets well. He gives 110% at all shows and he’d not be happy performing at any less. Get well soon, Steven!

Foodforthought | 7/6/2009, 6:37 pm EST

Speedy recovery to Steven! You spoiled, bratty “young uns” who keep talking about how old this group is, remember this: Your turn is coming sooner and faster than you think. Crank up YOUR walkers, crutches and wheelchairs and, oh yeah…GROW UP!

Shell | 7/6/2009, 6:49 pm EST

Has anyone heard anything about when the postponed shows will be? I had tickets for the Hershey show.

Anita | 7/6/2009, 7:10 pm EST

The concert in Raleigh is postponed as well. My almost-14 year old son was looking forward to his first, big rock concert, with two of his favorite bands (I’ve trained him well!). Hopefully we can make it for the rescheduled one!

2020 Sub Sonic | 7/6/2009, 7:27 pm EST

Latest news: Instead – The Blue Man group will be performing using Aerosmith Guitar Hero III, in association with Shamwow and in memorial of pitchman Billy Mays – he was a great salesman – greater than life.

Dude | 7/6/2009, 7:59 pm EST

“I’m baaaack….I’m baaack in the…oowwww….I’ve fallen…and I can’t get up”
Seriously though…God bless ‘em all for still rocking on into their later years. Rock and roll is a state of mind and not an age. I say, let em all rock till they drop dead.

Blondie | 7/6/2009, 8:34 pm EST

No one rocks like Aerosmith live! Steven, Brad, Tom, Joey and Joe are all ROCK GODS. Count yourselves privileged to stand in the rain holding a ticket to even a canceled Aerosmith show. Steven Tyler has enough Sexy for 10 lifetimes of you lesser mortals.

Megers | 7/6/2009, 8:41 pm EST

Ok. Dudes. really. im not even old enough to have known them if it wasnt fro my amazing parents who raised me well. i just hope hes ok. and you know its rock and roll when you wanna die doing so SHUT UP ABOUT THEIR AGE! They still rock harder than you ever could.

ursula | 7/7/2009, 4:31 pm EST

As you may know, the Raleigh and Charlotte shows are now both postponed. The crew has moved on and is waiting in Tampa, FL. We’ll see what happens next.

AERO FAN | 7/7/2009, 5:38 pm EST

The music of today is garbage…most bands don’t even play their own instruments or let alone PLAY LIVE…AEROSMITH is a classic ROCK BAND, each member is a talented musician. I have seen them play 2 times and am looking forward to the JULY 13th Show…Hopefully they will be playing ROCKS instead of TOYS…GET BETTER STEVEN I don’t care if you have to be in a chair the whole show…LONG LIVE ROCK N’ ROLL and AEROSMITH…

I have been to coutless shows with my daughters and daughter in law and Steven had us up to his room in Canada even. They are such FANTASTIC musicians and Steven was so gracious to us. These are memories we will all cherish for life – thanks and stay healthy and keep putting smiles on your fans faces like you have done for years! We do love and appreciate all of you!

Steven's injury | 7/8/2009, 4:35 pm EST

I was at the CT show and we were seated on the side stage and could see him back stage after the show. It looked like something happened to his head. They were checking the back of his head. Feel bad for all who missed their shows. I show was AWESOME!!!!!

Steven's injury | 7/8/2009, 4:39 pm EST

I was at the CT concert on the side stage and at end of concert we saw Steven backstage and they were looking at his head. Feel sorry for all who had their concerts postponed. IT WAS AN AWESOME SHOW!!

Kat Kelly | 7/10/2009, 7:27 pm EST

Tampa is now canceled too :(

Aerosmith | 7/10/2009, 8:40 pm EST

Do you know if the Aerosmith concert on Monday 7/13 in Ft. Lauderdale is going on as scheduled?

kudzu69 | 7/10/2009, 8:56 pm EST

Tampa and Fort Lauderdale have been postponed….so sad. I’m in Ft. Lauderdale on vacation and was so looking forward to go…they’re not playing anywhere near where I live.

Bill | 7/10/2009, 9:30 pm EST

This is typical of these overpaid “rock Gods”. We had tickets for the Tampa show and took time off work, traveled to the area only to be informed the night before its postponed. How about sucking it up for the fans. But hey what do they care we are all suckers to make them richer while the fans scrape by and now loose money just to see them

Bill | 7/10/2009, 9:34 pm EST

get the fish mouthed geezer a walker and do the showes that the fans paid good money for. What a rip off band!!

pissed in tampa | 7/10/2009, 9:37 pm EST

sounds like rehab for little stevie again get off the horse and on the stage you puss

Sam A. | 7/10/2009, 9:48 pm EST

This was supposed to be my first concert ever. I was so pumped about my first concert being an Aerosmith/ZZ Top concert, and this happened. I have been listening to their Toys In The Attic concert nonstop all week. This just ruined my summer. I don’t know what to do now, I can’t wait any longer!!!!!!!!!

weeping willie | 7/10/2009, 10:08 pm EST

i have been looking forward to this concert for the past six months. And of those months that seems to be all i can look forward to. My wife left me because of my fascination of the event and i recently lost my job due to a combination of five hour energy shots and a somewhat unhealthy fastination with the beutiful plastic discs their music can be found on. “apparently” it was the “last straw” when i was found chewing on “Toys in the Attic” in the janitor closet. My excitement has led my life down the drain and it seems the event i so looked forward to followed it down the pipes as well. i think i’ll cry silently now. goodby

H. Simpson | 7/10/2009, 10:13 pm EST

ahhhh mmmmm tears mmmmmmm

Sammyboy | 7/10/2009, 10:26 pm EST

This tampa concert postponning has Got Me Under Pressure. It also makes me want to punch Uncle Salty in the Adams Apple for throwing away all of my Toys In The attic. So I took his Big Ten Inch Record and said No More No More as I threw it Round and Round the room. What ya think that I’m Gunnar have some sweet emotion when you call to me “You See Me Crying”.

AeroChicky | 7/10/2009, 11:10 pm EST

Just heal and come get your azz back on the stage~ But stay healthy ! Tampa was to be and will be my 40th time seeing Aerosmith. Its gonna be ok !

jim | 7/12/2009, 11:24 am EST

What a disappointment, I schedeuled my limited vacation around this concert. Then I don’t get notice until the day of the concert. It makes me wonder how many people showed up to the ampitheater with no clue of the cancellation, guess they thought they got the best parking of their lives. walley world type parking, yuck yuck.

Krazy Kat | 7/12/2009, 8:38 pm EST

Steven, Luv,Luv and Hugs!!! As an NMT therapist be patient and heal… Your true fans know you and the boys are worth the wait!!!

helen | 7/13/2009, 4:46 pm EST

does anyone know if the July 17th concert in The Woodlands, Tx has been postponed? This is my birthday present to my 15 year old grand daughter. She loves Aerosmith. Her grandparents and parents have taught her well!!

anonymous | 7/13/2009, 7:48 pm EST

My aunt cried and said i was looking forward to the concert.

Honestly... | 7/14/2009, 10:13 am EST

Aerosmith is better than many bands, even some younger ones. Of course they have more injuries now, they are pushing their 60s (I know Steven is actually older than 60). If you think they should just roll over and die quietly so be it however, actual fans will still buy CDs and tickets to their tours. It sucks when a concert is postponed or cancelled but, that is life. Michael Jackson’s fans probably didn’t expect him to die and of course end up cancelling the shows. They are rock stars but, still cannot predict life any better than we can. I have tickets to Indy and I hope it goes on as planned but, if not, I’ll still try to see them again! Anyhow, for those looks comments, since when do rock stars have to be classic beauties?

pghfan | 7/14/2009, 8:09 pm EST

saw them a couple of weeks ago at post gazette pavillion. great like always. rather see them at a later date then not at all.
get better soon

Becky | 7/16/2009, 4:09 pm EST

I saw Aerosmith in Atlanta last night and was very disappointed. Tyler was no where near up to par, and the concert was cut short of it because of it. Good luck in Texas.

Sucks!!!! | 7/21/2009, 11:00 pm EST

I waited for two months to see AEROSMITH’s with my beautiful girlfriend (07/13/09 at Fort Lauderdale)…and guess what..IT’S SUCKS!!!! We drove to an empty parking lot thinking…What the hell the concert is at 7:30pm and it’s already 7:00pm and it’s nobody here yet! when a lady came up to us and said “I’m sorry it’s not my fault, I was only hire to give up this paper, the concert has been postpone”. and I was NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Life suck!

Ashley | 8/2/2009, 3:34 pm EST

This is my second time driving 6 hours to Virginia Beach to see Aerosmith. BOTH times the show was canceled!!!! Any word on if we will get our money back yet??

Debbie | 8/7/2009, 9:23 pm EST

I got to see Aerosmith in Mansfield Mass and they really rocked the place. Steven I just want to tell you that you still have it. Keep on rocking!!! I will pray for your speedy recovery and cannot wait for the new CD and your biography book.

Lucky for OK | 8/8/2009, 2:31 am EST

Aerosmith put on an awesome show in Tulsa on July 30th. Tyler was amazing, as was the rest of the band. They showed no signs of injury, illness or slowing down. It’d been 21 yrs since they played Tulsa – they certainly did not disappoint!

Ashley H. from Oklahoma | 8/10/2009, 11:04 am EST

You guys really do need 2 get a grip, its not like they won’t get better soon. And, when they do get better, prepare to have the best time of your life.Aerosmith rocks, and they put on the most rockinest concert ever. Rock your asses off. And, to Steven Tyler, get to feelin better soon, baby, and rock on.

Ben | 8/10/2009, 4:52 pm EST

Some of the comments berating Aerosmith and Tyler for his accidental fall and injury shows just how self-absorbed and indulgent some people are. This guy and his band are the ultimate rockers. ZZ Top and Van Halen are two of this country’s creme de la creme bands. They have both opened for Aerosmith. Need I say more. Can you imagine how much happiness Aerosmith has brought to the lives of people. I mean like Joe Perry, a mega guitar rock and roller, doing a video intro for the Guitar Hero pair of teenagers who do their thing before the show starts. Imagine being introduced by Joe Perry!!! Then Tyler doing his wildman stuff onstage. No one has more charisma or energy that the crowd feeds off. When Aerosmith takes the stage no one sits down for the rest of the concert. I have never seen that with any other band. No one sat down when my two young boys and myself saw them at Nissan Pavillion in Virginia. And no one sat down in Denver at Fiddler’s Green Ampitheatre when I hauled my oldest son, on leave from the service, from the east coast all the way there to see them. Someone in the audience gave Tyler their crutch. Imagine that someone was there on crutches to see Aerosmith. They had injured their leg. So why are we such morons if Tyler gets an injury entertaining us? In fact given Tyler’s wildman tactics on stage I have wondered how he never got seriously injured up till now. He is probably making fun at himself over his ungracious accident and can’t wait to get back onstage. Aerosmith has ‘IT.’ And Tyler has a lot to do with that.

tooldtorock | 8/12/2009, 11:03 am EST

most of you young “critics” dont have a clue!!Other that the Stones, no band holds a candle to Steven Tyler and the boys.So take your “too old comments” to the Jay Z concert and have fun!!I’ll rock with the old guys for while longer!!

PSYKT | 9/17/2009, 4:54 pm EST

AEROSMITH ROCKS! NO MATTER HOW OLD THEY ARE, YOU YOUNGSTERS ARE JUST JEALOUS CUZ YOU COULDN’T HANG. SPEEDY RECOVERY TYLER!

Johnny Ioannidis | 9/23/2009, 10:56 pm EST

Aerosmith SUCKS and they’re UGLY as sin!!!

ur mom | 10/19/2009, 10:40 am EST

alright assholes, aerosmith kicks ass and anyone who thinks different, i hope you choke on the bong smoke dick fucks!!! they may be old but if they still wanna put on a show then let ‘em. they were good then and the’re no different now so shut the fuck up! get better steven.

suzy | 11/13/2009, 3:44 pm EST

This is sad news, but it does seem like rock ‘n roll belongs to the young. Their bodies can’t keep up.
