Michael Jackson’s Neverland: What Should Happen to the Superstar’s Ranch?

Throngs of fans and media descended on Neverland Ranch following Michael Jackson’s death last week, demonstrating once again how the 2,800-acre property in California’s Santa Barbara County is synonymous with the King of Pop. However, plans for a Neverland public memorial and burial have been abandoned, and it’s unclear what will become of the cultural landmark now. Jackson himself left the land after his second trial for child-molestation charges (the police search of his home “violated” it, he said), and in November 2008 the ranch’s deed was transferred to Sycamore Valley Ranch Company, LLC and billionaire Thomas Barrack, a casualty of Jackson’s mounting debt, according to the Santa Barbara EdHat. The property’s amusement park rides were removed, and Jackson memorabilia headed to the auction block.

(Get a look at Neverland’s historic contents.)

So what should become of Neverland now? A few suggestions:

Neverland, the Graceland: While the mayor of Gary, Indiana lobbies for the Jackson family to establish a museum dedicated to their lives in Jackson’s former hometown, turning Neverland into a public museum much like Elvis Presley’s Graceland seems like the most obvious idea, given the fame surrounding the property. It’s probably the most cost-feasible option as well, as it would just require the Ranch to be restored to its previous state prior to Jackson’s departure. Decades after Presley’s death, Graceland continues to attract fans and earn money, so it’s a given Neverland could operate the same way. However, California law prevents an individual from being buried at a private residence, so the site would have to serve more as a museum than a final resting ground.

Neverland, the Amusement Park: The Ranch previously housed a kiddie roller coaster, Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and many more rides to entertain its young visitors. Southern California is already a hotbed for theme parks, from Disneyland to Six Flags to Universal Studios, and Neverland could be the latest addition to the club. Imagine, a roller coaster called Moonwalker or Dangerous: The Ride. They can even resurrect the 3D Captain EO attraction that was at the Epcot Center and Disneyland.

Neverland, the National Park: It would probably the favorite option to the quiet residents of Santa Barbara, the plan would mean restoring the Ranch to its original, scenic state. Without the frills of the previous two options, the Ranch would be similar to the Strawberry Fields memorial dedicated to John Lennon in Central Park. Maybe once a year, on Jackson’s birthday or the anniversary of his death, a public concert could be held on the land to pay tribute to the singer.

Neverland, the Children’s Hospital: This is probably the closest thing Jackson had in mind when he established the Neverland Ranch, and it’s most likely the best way to honor his memory. Even as Jackson was preparing for his This Is It! tour, his spokesman told Rolling Stone that Jackson was returning to the stage not for the money, but that “he’s doing it for his children and the children of the world.” What better way to honor his legacy as a humanitarian than with a children’s hospital on the site, complete with the rides?

What would be a fitting fate for Neverland? Leave your suggestions for Jackson’s former home in the comments.

Graceland option.

Bobby | 7/2/2009, 6:07 pm EST

While it would be incredible to see Nerverland preserved as a children’s hospital or national park as a tribute to Jackson. I highly doubt that the Jackson family will miss out on the cash – cow a west coast Graceland could be. Given the fact that Joe Jackson was recently pimping his own start up label in between details of his son’s recent death, I believe we will be paying admission to see this piece of Jackson lore. And if that is the case…I vote for Moonwalker: The Ride!!!

Berni | 7/2/2009, 7:01 pm EST

I think Neverland should have been an amusement park the first time I saw it. If Michael could have just made it a park from the beginning and made money off it he would have faired better with it.

Yvette | 7/2/2009, 7:03 pm EST

I vote for amusement park with captain eo, or a rollercoaster ride like the leave me alone video had

Jason | 7/2/2009, 7:07 pm EST

neveland should be an amusement park

Lea'Anne | 7/2/2009, 7:09 pm EST

I vote amusement park people would pay to go there

mr. wildflowers | 7/2/2009, 7:29 pm EST

Definitely the children’s hospital. You can’t really deny that’s what Michael would have wanted.

Mitch. | 7/2/2009, 7:37 pm EST

I vote an amusment park too. Have some high end shops like a MJ art gallery, Collector edition iphones with Neverland downloads for the tourists. People could donate there old phones and pay for the upgraded MJ phone. Big bucks there. The wine growers could have tasting available on the grounds too. It would attract many tourists who will buy admission, some shirts or souvineers and meals from the local area eateries.
Some Disney type attractions like live stage shows and the Captain Eo too. In time a haunted mansion type ride so vistiors can see what it was like to visit the rooms of the estate in all the grandeur. The memorial would provide a ton of tax revenues for our bankrupt state budget. Keep Neverland in California!!!

Michael | 7/2/2009, 7:44 pm EST

It would be nice and appropriate to have a library similar to the numerous Presidential libraries. In it, we will have reconstructed sets and various displays of Michael Jackson’s career and props. Also, his body could be preserved and housed in a glass coffin similar to Mao or Lenin.

Lina | 7/2/2009, 7:58 pm EST

I think it should become the next Graceland. Its a shame California law prevents an individual from being buried at a private residence.. I think Michael would have wonted to be buried in a place where he felt most at home.

Anonymous | 7/2/2009, 8:16 pm EST

As its located out in wine country, Neverland should be changed into the Jesus Juice Winery.

d | 7/2/2009, 8:25 pm EST

But it wouldn’t be a private residence any longer if it turns into a “Graceland”. So why can’t it be turned into Neverland Memorial Park and bury him there?

Danielle | 7/2/2009, 8:28 pm EST

Well i think any of these is a good idea. But the childrens hospital with a amusement park is what i think Michael would of wanted because he loves helping people in need. But i dont know if it should be at neverland ranch because after what happen there Michael didnt want anything to do with that place ever again because it wasnt the same but its not like his family besides janet care what he would have wanted all they care about is the money they will get out of it because they are grubbing leaches. R.I.P Michael.

Judy | 7/2/2009, 8:28 pm EST

Ya, just petition a land rezone, bury him there and open “Neverland” to the paying public!

samprya | 7/2/2009, 8:52 pm EST

kandis mckenzie | 7/2/2009, 9:24 pm EST

i feel like the family should bury michael jackson on the neverland ranch the place he loved so much so the fans can view the king of po all the time lovwe you mj

maggie cardona | 7/2/2009, 10:44 pm EST

i am a 11 year old girl that says neverland should go to all of his kids and there mother and is wife should live in and the kids that have alot of problems should go to see how it is and get there own familys

Vegas | 7/2/2009, 11:05 pm EST

It should be like Graceland. I also think the amusement park should be open as well. It would be great…get Disney in on it…Michael loved Disney. They could have a Thriller set, something like a “haunted mansion” ride, etc. Michael loved to have fun and he loved music, maybe there could be concerts there as well. It would be awesome and people all over the world would come. Love you Michael!

Claire14 | 7/2/2009, 11:05 pm EST

They should open it to the public like Graceland. He would have wanted that. His presence would remain there and fans would love it. It would be a great tribute to him and his spirit would live on forever like Graceland. They should update the rides and open it back up. Have MJ Imax theatre and view his videos like Thriller and even his new 3d video I heard was never released he made. It would be such a tribute to him and his family would make millions and fans would flock just like Elvis.

Marie | 7/2/2009, 11:16 pm EST

Keeping everything the way it is or was supposed to be is a wonderful thing to happen. A children’s hospital is perfect. I’m sure that “NEVERLAND” will be very similar and succussfull as Graceland and allow him to remain in peoples life and in their heartsand great things will come out of all of this. He cared about kids and it should continue to do so after death.

Anonymous | 7/2/2009, 11:41 pm EST

Please, please Clon MJ… We need him back!!!

JEFFREY HOWES | 7/2/2009, 11:41 pm EST

This would be a great way to honour te king of pop so that we have someone to go and visit our king of pop Michael Jackson. He will be missed so much by myself and other fans and family but never forgotten but this will also be another way that his legacy will live on on aswell as in his music.

Suzi | 7/3/2009, 12:48 am EST

I vote for amusement park for all children sick and well to come and
get away from all their troubles.
They should bury Michael at Neverland the way they buried Elvis
and have a museum of all of Michael’s
furniture and clothes for all to see.
I think this would honor him.
The family could do this for Michael’s own children and they could run it someday and have it.

Patricia | 7/3/2009, 12:59 am EST

Michael should be buried at Graceland. This would ensure his tomb is never vandalized. They should use the Graceland model for Neverland and allow visitors to come and visit Michael. This would benefit the state of CA as far as tourism etc. THe family member should live in the home like Elvis’ family did and still does. Lisa Marie once said when she goes to Graceland she feels her father there. The Jackson’s can have the same experience at Neverland with Michael. We owe it to Michael to save his property. After years of making fun of him and having the paparazzi hound him, this is the least we can do for him

Chris | 7/3/2009, 1:28 am EST

It should be sold off. It’s not a good idea to turn never land into a shrine. Jackson himself refused to live in it. his family was in debt to the tune of 25 million and was filing bankruptcy. There is a realistic question that they have the financial reliability to run a never land museum/amusement part much less manage the remaining estate. More then likely the estate will be sold to a private individual with the stipulation that it can’t be used to benefit from the Jackson name or film some sort of move/ television story based on his life ot recent trial.

Fred | 7/3/2009, 1:46 am EST

I know California law prohibits burial outside a cemetery, but certainly that law could be updated. People bury their loved ones on property all the time. I for instance when I pass will be buried on my mountain property, but that is just my states laws. I think the Graceland option would be best fitting. Bring back the rides and the zoo and have the place be just like it was when Michael lived there. Should California zoning laws not allow it, what if it was torn down, piece by piece and rebuilt somewhere else?? Gary In, Las Vegas, Colorado!!!, or anywhere. That could be done. Ultimately the family will chose, but I certainly do hope it will be like Graceland, I would love to see it and pay my respects, and if he is not buried there immediately just remember Elvis was not originally buried at Graceland. If they do relocate it, they could build a nearby hotel kind of like at Graceland the Heartbreak Hotel. If that fails than an amusement park/museum of sort would be great. Honestly though I would rather have Michael back I was really looking forward to his concert next month.

NYC Fan | 7/3/2009, 2:06 am EST

This is a 4 square mile tract of land. Why not create MJ’s burial place, museum and theatre for his fans; AND create a children’s hospital–a place for their parents and families to stay while they’re getting treatment, complete with amusement park and theatre for the sick children.

Tom Justace M | 7/3/2009, 3:34 am EST

Lets do this make a small donation each of a few dollars and get this place put Michael there have a small hotel or start with his belongings and move up from there museum with rides and whatnot
YOU GOT MY BID

Amanda | 7/3/2009, 3:37 am EST

Wow, all of those are great ideas, but I think the children’s hospital & amusement park is the way to go. R.I.P, Michael – the best EVER.

Michael's Voice | 7/3/2009, 3:55 am EST

What does Michael Jackson’s last will and testament state regarding the Neverland Ranch?

Ruben P. Valadez | 7/3/2009, 4:01 am EST

I agree to have it just like Graceland, He is a Legend to put it mild. Everyone I talked to believes it should be like graceland and would all go with family and friend. God Bless All the Family.

emma | 7/3/2009, 4:03 am EST

I vote for a children hospital.

Prajacta | 7/3/2009, 9:49 am EST

I think part of it shud be open for tourist & some part for children welfare….whateever revenues are generated through this shud also be shared for Micheal’s 3 children so that they grow up in way micheal wanted them to…….Neverland is his dream & it shud be a fair deal….but joe jackson still behaves his usual self which micheal dint like…..Now tht he is gone, I pray to god tht all good is done to his children & estate..RIP micheal

Sandy | 7/3/2009, 10:23 am EST

California officials need to make an exception re: burial outside of a cemetary. Michael should not be buried at Forest Lawn ~ it just seems wrong. Neverland was his home. It makes sense on so many levels to permit Michael’s burial on his own land. That way, his grave will never be desecrated and his spirit will always be at Neverland. His children will have a place to go visit him in private.

Neverland should become Graceland West. Michael was too extraordinary of an entertainer for anything else to make sense.

rrhoop5469 | 7/3/2009, 10:53 am EST

I think California should make an exception because of how huge of an entertainer Michael Jackson was. Bury him on the property, open it to the public like Graceland with all profits being given to Michael Jackson’s favorite charities with the biggest portion given to the charity he created. Also, a portion of the profits could be given to his kids trust funds.

Bill | 7/3/2009, 10:54 am EST

Based on the fact that Michael sold Neverland, all of the above ideas are good but where would the money go? A billionaire owns the property, now, and he would just get richer and greedier.
Michael’s memorial, whatever it may end up being, should benefit his childred and/or humanity, not putting more money into the pockets of Sycamore Valley Ranch Company, LLC and billionaire. Thomas Barrack,

jessi | 7/3/2009, 11:47 am EST

i aso think like what others think…The major of Santa Barbara should make exception on this matter. MJ should be buried at his own property..he would be happy to be in Neverland forever. Maybe all the fans can come out with a petition and send it to the mayor…

2ndly, agree that Neverland should turned back as how it looks originally and added something like his musuem, and more great stuff for everyone as remembrance and for the future generation to get to know him better.

and also, with this, neverland may generate more income and attract tourists. with the income it may flow to help the needy kids as wat MJ wish…HEAL THE WORLD TO BE A BETTER PLACE…

I am from Malaysia and if I do have a chance to US, I am for sure will spare my time to visit Neverland in the future. I believe everyone from every corner of the country do think the same too…

WE WILL MISS MJ FOREVER..LOVE YOU..GOD BLESS

Maria | 7/3/2009, 11:55 am EST

Build a children’s hospital and medical research center.

Joe | 7/3/2009, 11:56 am EST

U2 should hold a show there.

Emmie V. | 7/3/2009, 12:06 pm EST

California should definitely make an exception and let Michael Jackson rest in peace in his beloved home. If they will not do that, it should be turned into a children’s hospital, with all the amusements restored. Perhaps that would give Michael the greatest joy. What a tragedy this is… I am still numb… can’t stop crying. Michael Joseph Jackson, you are truly an Angel masquerading as a human. The world will never be the same without you. Know that you are loved and respected by the people who REALLY knew what you were all about. Fly free, my friend….

AnotherOption | 7/3/2009, 1:06 pm EST

Turn it into a training centre for crazy American parents-who-want-their-kids-2- be-stars. Have Joe Jackson lead workshops on how to do this. That way he can flog the new pill he’s soon to patent. Chewable “Baby Demerol” can take away the pain of bruising, humiliation and all other minor injuries to children’s bodies and minds as they learn to fulfill their parents’ unfulfilled goals and desires.

All this satirical nonsense I’ve written aside, Mr. Michael Jackson himself said, the site was “violated.” Obviously MJ was used by hangers-on, his family, corporations, pretty much everyone for $$$$$$. In death, let the man rest. The people who want to do stuff with Neverland, mostly are doing it for $$$$$$ (STILL!). True fans don’t need a “Graceland.” He lives on in his music, the stuff that formed the soundtrack to our lives.

RIP Michael. God bless you and your children.

Derrick | 7/3/2009, 1:42 pm EST

i think it should be an amusment park and it should a roller coster that has michael’s videos and pictures of him and all of his family and friends.

gone but never forgotten “rip the king of pop michael jackson”

Ascara | 7/3/2009, 2:23 pm EST

I can not believe I am adding my 2 cents but here goes. I think they should do a Graceland like memorial. Since California law is the problem that is stopping Mr. Jackson from being buried there he should be cremated, and his ashes should be house in an crown shaped urn. (I know it sounds tacky, but I really think Mr. Jackson would get a kick out of it.) Then the proceeds should go to a children’s hospital or research center. (Hospitals are so hard to run well, especially start ups). This way many, many, more children may be help. Also this way his children will get to experience their father’s great philanthropy forever.

Besides I have never seen this place before it is beautiful. Also with California’s debt this could be a way to provide a few jobs, and create a bit more revenue.

Don | 7/3/2009, 2:43 pm EST

I love the amusement park idea and Michael should be buried at Neverland. Forget the rules on this one and go with what is right, Michael may have not been happy living there after the police situation but it was his dream and what made him happy for 17 plus years and his presence is there in spirit he should be there physically as well. RIP MJ

Phil Lasheo | 7/3/2009, 3:08 pm EST

Michael Jackson and Mike Tyson. Two legends used up and thrown away by the white power structure. And before you say “what about Don King? He ain’t white”, remember who his paymasters are.

Katie | 7/3/2009, 3:49 pm EST

Children’s hospital/recovery/disadva ntage d kids space.

Bring the rides and the fun back.

John D. Mellor | 7/3/2009, 3:54 pm EST

No question, the “Neverland, the Graceland” option. This is what Michael would have wanted. It would generate revenue for his children and be a focal point for his fans.

I also think a way should be found for Michael to be buried at Neverland.

Maria | 7/3/2009, 4:07 pm EST

I Think it should be either a museum or amusement park! Also Michael Jackson should be buried in Neverland.

Chrie | 7/3/2009, 5:09 pm EST

Make it a happy place/graceland. Without a doubt make it an amusement park/resting place/ museum and all the proceeds go to UNICEF

Angel | 7/3/2009, 7:16 pm EST

all his fans that are in LA can represent all of michaels fans by making a petition and fighting to have his body buried at neverland, it was his home before it was violated, and thats where he felt most at peace. its always going to be his home so why not let him rest in peace there.

Boyda | 7/3/2009, 7:33 pm EST

Is Phil Lasheo for real?!?!?!!?!? Stunningly idiotic.

I like the hospital / disadvantaged youth idea. Giving to kids would be great.

anna berry | 7/3/2009, 8:50 pm EST

i think mj would not want to be buried at neverland after the alegations of child abuse which destroyed him bad memories neverland did michael no favours

Anonymous | 7/3/2009, 9:11 pm EST

i loved michaels music but i didnt care for his changes in his life. its sad to see him coming from a lovely family and turned his life that made no sence.I guess money changes ppl and it certainly changed him. Thats sad.

Anonymous | 7/3/2009, 9:34 pm EST

I think it should become an amusement park for disadvantage children and education grounds for schools. you only live once, what would be more exciting to have schools every year take part educating our students what michael jackson did for the world. He rose to the hall of fame and he wanted to do for the children so why not educate them. no matter if their black or white.

Rachel | 7/3/2009, 10:22 pm EST

I think Michael Jackson should definitely be buried in Neverland. I also like the amusement park/museum idea. In my opinion,I say his mansion should be the museum, and neverland should be the amusement park.

Theresa | 7/3/2009, 11:49 pm EST

Elvis is buried at Graceland. So why can’t they make an exemption for Michael Jackson so that he can be buried at the only home he ever knew “NEVERLAND” return it to its full glory the way he truly meant it to be.
A tribute to a true loving humanatarian who changed the world through his music. God speed Michael. May you rest in peace.

Debbie | 7/4/2009, 1:20 am EST

I think California could make an exception to let Michael Jackson be buried at the Neverland Ranch. What would it hurt. That was his home for many years. That is where he was most happy and put back the amusement park for the children that he so adored. Bring back the happiness to Graceland.

heidi styles | 7/4/2009, 1:18 pm EST

a year before my mom died of cancer, I took her to graceland for a week and stayed at the heartbreak hotel. The tickets to see his plalnes, home and grounds and other places only cost 25.00 for each of us. Everywhere was Elvis. I think the same should be done for Michael Jackson. His fans will be paying to keep it going. We will give it to his children and we will always pay for it. That is out gift to the most womderful entertainer ever. I am a 43 year old white woman and I cried. I never cared to go to Californaia, to far from me, I can see alot on my side of the us before I die and be happy. For this I would visite California, how about that. I guareentee I am not the only one. I only went to graceland for my mom and I am so glad I did. Michael Jacksons home way fare more, no disrespect intend to Presley family. To walk in his home and feel his presence like my mom did when she went into Elvises, we all want to fill that. His fans need to keep his home, for him, us, his children, his family and peace.

hmmmm | 7/4/2009, 5:45 pm EST

I think Peter Pan should fly down with tinkerbell and take the helm at neverland ranch.

Lynn | 7/4/2009, 7:17 pm EST

I think Micheal Jackson should be buried in Neverland. This is the place he created and where he seek peace at. Please allow Micheal to be able to rest in peace so his Fans can have a place to go back and see him. You all did it for Elvis Presley who I also loved and adore. Please you can change laws. Everyday we are getting new laws. We do not have to much time. Thank you for reconsidering California. If we can do it for Elvis then we can do it for Micheal. I am praying for the Jackson Family. Rest in Peace Micheal. I hope they put you in the right place and not just anywhere. You have help so many people in this world. Your Legacy will live in our hearts forever!

Valerie | 7/4/2009, 8:35 pm EST

I would love it if Neverland could be a Graceland. It would be so fitting for Michael, with him buried there, or at least a museum. We will need a place so badly to come visit, feel a sense of closeness to him, really remember him. It must be done. No question about it.

steve | 7/5/2009, 12:08 am EST

i think they should sell neverland and give the money to all the little boys that mj ruined the innocent lives of. He was nothing but a creepy old man. Not at all suprised he was addicted to pills. Not at all suprised he fools around with children. Jacko obviously not fit to be around kids he thinks its a good game to throw your fucking infint over the fucking balcony.

Anonymous | 7/5/2009, 12:50 am EST

childrens hospital

Michael Forever | 7/5/2009, 12:58 am EST

Neverland should be Michael’s last resting place, anywhere else would just be plain wrong. Neverland was where he was happy once – let him rest in Peace there! RIP Michael x

Karen | 7/5/2009, 3:27 am EST

Former president Ronald Reagan was buried beside his museum in Simi Valley, CA. Why not have Michael Jackson buried beside his museum?
Turn the house into a museum with all of his memorabilia than it is no longer a place of residence. AMEN.

angela | 7/5/2009, 4:21 am EST

I think Michael Jackson shuld rest in peace in NEVERLAND bkoz it waz such a big part of his lyf n he waz realy happy there!!! he deservs to be buried there and i think its the right thing to do!!!
All the storys about him being a molester thats a load of crap, i dont believe it and i’ll never believe it!!! he was a kind and loving man and those people just took granted of him… people dont understand him thats why they gota be nasty…

Boyda: Follow the money. There’s your answer. The truth hurts more than anything, I understand.

Neverland R | 7/5/2009, 2:33 pm EST

I think he has the right to be buried in Neverland. Elvis and Ronald Regan have. Why not Michael. The family would be proud.

babygrace | 7/5/2009, 3:08 pm EST

First, R.I.P. Michael and condolences to your Family!! It was amazing to me when I went to your site and realized how much your music impacted my 45 year old life from Motown to now! I Have seen many live shows and have to say that I have never witnessed ANYONE raise momentum in a crowd the way you did. By far the best I’d ever seen!! How about a combination of all…Final resting place in a controlled enviornment that can be monitored and secured from all the FANATICS that would not respect his privacy and would take any piece of him they could get ( sad but true)… and a hospital that would be a testament to his true wishes, that his leagacy reflect his message of LOVE Hope, and GENEROSITY. And revenue..jobs..come on California so many acres wouldn’t ever affect the rich cattle barrons of the county. No matter what allegations, no one can deny his generosity and true wish to help children and make a possitive impact on this world. May God Guide the decision makers down the right path. Love to you Michael, with prayers that you find the happiness that you missed out on in your youth while on this plane. May your gentle soul finally get the rest you so needed and longed for. You will be missed greatly!

Melissa | 7/5/2009, 5:53 pm EST

You know I firmly believe that Michael loved his home at Neverland. It was his retreat away from the world that would be a lot of times very cruel and so I firmly believe he should be buried at Neverland Ranch for his family to be able to see him in private away from the crowds. Him being buried in a public cemetary is unheard of so many people will be around his grave and it will be harder for his family and closest friends to peaceful pay respects to him whenever they want to. It is unheard of for Michael to be anywhere else but Neverland.

maha | 7/5/2009, 10:25 pm EST

It would be great if MJ could be buried in Neverland coz he loves to be there. His peace, happiness, joy, love is there. It should be opened as a muzeum where we can visit whenever we feel wants to be near him.We pay the entering fee that goes towart his kids and sick children all over the world. I am from Malaysia and i will definetely will be there one day to feel him.PLESE GOD LET HIM REST IN PEACE.MJ WILL LIVE IN MY HEART EVERY SECOND,MINUTE,DAY,…FOREVER.

MARLENE | 7/6/2009, 4:44 am EST

DEAR MICHAEL. YOUR BODY SHOULD BE PLACED AT NEVERLAND WHERE YOU BELONG. EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE WITH GOD ALREADY, I’M SURE YOU ARE LOOKING DOWN, AND REALIZING, THAT THIS WORLD WASN’T JUST CRUEL TO YOU PERSONALLY, IT IS JUST A CRUEL WORLD PERIOD. YOU ARE BLESSED, AND WE ALL MISS YOU. I HAVE GROWN UP WITH YOU, AND YOUR MUSIC, SINCE YOU STARTED, AND I WILL ALWAYS DANCE OR SING WHENEVER I HEAR YOU OR PLAY YOUR MUSIC. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR CONCERT IN MIAMI, SOMETHING PEOPLE DON’T EVEN KNOW OF. WE WERE THE SAME AGE, YOU WERE 14. AND THE CONCERT WAS GREAT. REST IN PEACE NOW, LET THE CRUEL WORLD FINISH FIGHTING OVER YOU. I AM HAPPY TO KNOW, YOU ARE WITH GOD, AND NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS CRUEL MESS THAT IS JUST STARTING. GOD BLESS THE CHILDREN. NO MORE TEARS IN HEAVEN. LOVE ALWAYS.

incredible talent . incredibly sad life. greed will win out sadly enough and neverland will line someones pocket.

Even though I really enjoy MJ’s music I think he is an idiot. He should be buried in a mormal graveyard like normal people and neverland should be open as a family themepark- im sure it would attract a lot of people.

Randy Boomdunnit | 7/6/2009, 11:21 am EST

I don’t think any of these people realize WHERE Neverland Ranch exactly is. It’s in Santa Ynez Valley in the MIDDLE of nowhere. There are only a handful of motels and holiday inns surrounding the entire valley and clearly could not accomodate any of this. MJ would not have wanted his peaceful estate and surrounding countryside ravaged by the sudden flux of people looking to make a buck on his name. No one gave a damn before he died, so let it be.

Lynn | 7/6/2009, 12:32 pm EST

All of us who feel he should be laid to rest at Neverland, How do we do it? What needs to happen? I realize there will be road blocks and speed bumps, but it can happen, it SHOULD happen…

Alot of wonderful ideas going into Micheal Jackson’s Neverland. A childrens’ recovery/hospital, back as an amusement park and the zoo. First, let’s not even think of tearing down such a place. I’ve traveled to many places, especially outside the United States and saw many a beautiful places that were built within one’s eye of creativity and prospecive. An individual’s out look – more say looking ahead. Micheal bought a place for himself, but turned it into a place for children. Look around in our country and see the different monuments and other cherished buildings that were built – not torn down. Micheal’s Neverland stands for something with meaning, everlasting memories for young and young at heart alike to cherish forever. He was a genius and goes way beyond what no other person has acomplished. 2,800 hundred areas is wide spread to bring back the amusement park, a zoo with his animals and most of all a place for peace. This is what Micheal Jackson was all about and wanted to share it with the world over – his love and peace, which is what we all need at times like this. He was a great entertainer and not only did his music show this, but also what a true person he was. Keep it and his spirit alive. I feel that Micheal Jackson have wanted this or there wouldn’t be a Neverland. Someday I would like to make a trip to see Neverland and the beauty, love, peace and laughter this place with holds.

How can some of ur comments be so cruel, ur jus jealous cuz he’s a total legend an ur nobody’s an total losers!!!! I think neverland should be opened to his fans an he should also be allowed to be burried there if thats his wishes!! R.I.P Michael love always!! you’ll be foreva remembered an missed….xxxxx

Turn Neverland back to how it was when Micheal was living there and make it a museum.

Bere | 7/6/2009, 8:15 pm EST

I think Michael’s body should be laid to rest at Neveraland Ranch because u can tell he had a passion for children and he had a good heart deep inside. Although Michael is now in heaven,I have a feeling he felt like being a child once again and know that the Neverland Ranch would be a happier place for him. The idea of turning neverland into a Museum would be the best idea!

Shannon Giordano | 7/7/2009, 12:49 am EST

I think it should be whatever the family decides but I would make it into a Childrens recovery center or hospital for children.Alot of his songs were about healing the world and making it a better place for future generations! He was a great person with a huge and generous heart. If any of you were smart and knew anything about the law he was aquitted of all charges in the child moslestation cases!Have you ever heard of broke ass people finding a easy way to get rich quick? It is soooo sad and I know he was not any of the things people have accused him of! Everyone in this world has problems in their life and if he was addicted to pain meds then that is his and his family’s business why are people getting involved and digging up dirt on someone who is definately in GOD’S house looking down on us laughing and saying look at all these losers with no life still talking about stuff that isn’t true..Michael I loved you and your music no matter what you did in your personal life I wish I had the chance to know you and your family on a personal level and you will always be remembered and in my heart.Your family will always in my prayers.I pray every day that your wishes about your children are granted and they stay with your mother!!! I will always love the Jackson Family!

I think it should restored exactly as it was when he lived there and be opened to the public. It could also house a children’s hospital/retreat for sick children and their families. Maybe closing it on certain days to be a private park for only the sick children to enjoy. Micahel would have wanted all of his fans to experience the joy and wonderment of Neverland.

pamela | 7/7/2009, 6:53 pm EST

i think michael should be back at his beloved neverland ranch and the press should let him rest in peace

I think Michael should be put to rest at his home that he truly loved.I was watching a news clipping and it was Michael at neverland showing how he climbs his favorite tree and where he wrote some of his music that moment of watching Michaels face was so lit up he looked so happy so relaxed he looked like a little boy just having fun.Even though he said he didnt want to ever go back there i feel that he should be put to rest at neverland that was his dream house he worked so hard to have his dream and now because of some lie that was made up took it away from him.I think its time for Michael to go back home and thats at neverland, he made neverland that is who Michael was Just a caring and giving little boy and man.

MJ should be buried at Nerverland. It is the most sensible thing to do to remember all that he gave to the world. He was not just a singer and a dancer; he brought so much joy to a lot of people both here in America and all over the world. Too bad it took his death for us here in America to see what the world had already seen and cherished. And for those who think because he paid off his accusers he was guilty. On the contrary. It is biblical to settle with your accusers on the way rather than go through the rigorous court hearing. It depicts the beauty of the peaceful human being that MJ was. Letting go of something does not make you guilty. If you are happy that he is dead, remember it is a road all of us will travel one day. For he will be remembered and all those who hate and speak ill of him, you will be fogotten before your casket hit the ground.
Paris gave us an insight to the soul of her ‘daddy’- a wonderful father, a caring human being who saw the best in both the young and the old.

All these stuff about drug. One thing I did not hear anyone say is that he uses drug to perform on stage. This goes to show the world that he had a God given talent.
What I hear in all these was a cry for help – I just want to sleep like any other human being unfortunately, people around him decided to pump him with drug rather than provide him with the much needed help. Even the nurse who is now singing like a canary, she should have provided him with a professional legaldoctor when he said ‘please find me a doctor to help me.’ All I hear is cry for help and none provided.

I know now that he is a better place. I pray that God will give him the peace he so much wanted here on earth. God bless you and God bless your children.

R.I.P MJ

DANA | 7/8/2009, 11:28 am EST

I believe he should be buried in a place his family agrees on..For the Ranch, he left that place for a reason so why would he be buried there? I do think that it should be preserved as a MJ museum..a tribute of some sort..I can’t imagine someome living there after all the hoopla & his death so they’ll do something..Theres so much money to be made there, they’d be stupid to pass it up..God bless MJ! U will live in our hearts forever!!

Open letter to Mr. Thomas Barrack, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Colony Capital, LLC.

Dear Mr. Barrack, I am writing on behalf of the many fans of Michael Jackson, people who traveled hundreds of miles, if not thousands of miles from other states, other countries this week to visit Neverland Ranch, home of their beloved Michael. Every night I go out to talk to them. When they learn I live here, they ask me who was he really, “tell us stories about him”. I have a few personal stories to share. Many of us in the valley have good personal stories. These folks leave gifts, they cry, you know it all.I tell them about you. Yes, I’ve done my homework on your company. You live here on a ranch in the valley. You saved Neverland Ranch from foreclosure. They appreciate you for it and so do I. We are truly grateful. Now you have a unique opportunity that other people don’t. You can restore Neverland, give it a good purpose and I don’t mean a theme park. These people don’t want a theme park. A school of dance, theater or creative center maybe. Also, a place where people can see Michael’s life and touch him again. I have read so many notes and signs written in pen, crayons, you name it. They want to know who he really was underneath the tabloid clutter, under the legal debris. We can do this in a way that will not adversely affect the valley and surroundings. In a respectful way. In these times when so much is lost and our collective futures are so uncertain, we need all the bastions of love and goodwill we can create for ourselves and our posterity. So bring back Neverland. Do it for the public and do it for Michael. We’ll help you, just ask.

beth alonso | 7/8/2009, 7:06 pm EST

Neverland should be a National Park documenting the talents of Michael Jackson, as well as the humanitarism he represents. It is time to put humanity in persepective and allow those who would follow the great commission to overcome the righteous evil. “Make believers of them, baptize them and teach them all I have commanded you.

~~TAFw~~ | 7/8/2009, 10:04 pm EST

I really dont know what should be done to neverland.I think a neverland museum is a great idea, restore the place back to the way it was before that craziness started on him.I dont know about him being laid to rest there. That was his home at one time,he loved it at one time but then all of that bad stuff happened to him there and I am sure that he felt violated afterwards he did leave that place, even left usa to get away from it all.he didnt even go back to neverland when he returned.I really dont think he would want to be laid there. But a museum about his life is a great idea use the money to help the charities that he donated money to already.Personally I dont think the family should announce when he will be laid to rest,or where he will rest.People can only imagine the craziness that would happen if his fans knew.I just wish people would stop with bringing up the mans bad past, and what he supposedly did.It happened years ago,let it go already.Let the man finally have the peace that he wanted so badly and eluded him every minute of his life..

good idea!!!! | 7/8/2009, 10:35 pm EST

neverland should be turned into a state Penitentiary in honour of the king of pedos….then all offenders sent there

I like the idea of a memorial park for everyone, not too unlike Graceland. I like the suggestion of a Children’s hospital even better.

MJ had a great deal of talent, love, and regard for others, and Neverland is the unfinished work of his art and vision; a legacy and inspiration of all wonderful things possible.

I have one question for the mean spirited. Where you there? No you weren’t, and you have no proof. You are not retarted, your blind. You can’t see it, because your minds are closed. The man loved children in all the right ways. He would never hurt a child, because he knew what it was like. Did he make some bad decisions? Sure he did. Doesn’t mean he did what he was accused of. If my child was molested by anyone with money… you couldn’t pay me enough to go away! Think about that…

Barbara | 7/10/2009, 1:30 pm EST

p.s

Another childrens hospital based on the ability to pay. No child ever turned away. Like Danny Thomas’s ST.Jude Hosptial.

Kimberly James | 7/10/2009, 1:33 pm EST

I think that is a wonderful idea Neverland was put there for a reason if that is taken away it would be sooooo wrong. To make it and put it back to its original reason for being there would make so many people and children very happy most of all MJ. Please use that land for what it was meant for. Micheal Jackson made neverland to cary on his Legacy

All the people who are writing rubbish about MJ – Please dont. He is no more… let him RIP. Dont forget nothing was proven against him. Also, If my child was taken advantage of…I would never have accepted any money….

China has taken jobs and even the Hummer from the United States. Tom Qian of Shanghai Daily reports that Qiu Xuefan, vice director of Wenzhou Chamber of Commerce, has announced plans to construct a smaller version of Neverland at Xianghua Town of Chongming County, which is about an hour drive from downtown Shanghai. The project which will cover 667,000 square meters is expected to cost 100 million yuan (US$14.6 million) and be completed in a year.

Meanwhile Gerald Posner of the Daily Beast reports that a senior executive of Colony Capital which controls the original Neverland states that it will not be used as a Michael Jackson museum.

No wonder China is growing economically while the U.S. is declining. Chinese business leaders recognize opportunities that Americans do not.

Michael Jackson may or may not have been the “greatest entertainer of all time” as his supporters claim, but he continues to be very popular. His fans are at least as dedicated to him as Elvis Presley’s fans are to him. Elvis Presley’s home Graceland continues to attract his fans 32 years after his death. Paul Simon even wrote a popular song about Graceland.

Opening a museum to Michael Jackson isn’t about Jackson, it’s about his fans. They deserve a place they can go to feel close to him and remember him.

Those who aren’t sentimental or dislike Jackson should consider the economics. A Michael Jackson memorial would create jobs. People would work at the site. Others would provide services to those going to and from the site. Visitors from other states and countries would want lodgings and meals.

The Chinese recognize the potential value of a Neverland. Why should Michael’s fans have to travel to China to visit his memorial when we have the original?

If Colony Capital cannot recognize the value of Neverland, perhaps the citizens of California could pass a referendum to preserve the site and even make it a state park. The referendum could authorize issuing bonds to finance purchase of the site by the state of California. The bonds would be repaid through admission fees, memorabilia sales, etc. The bonds might be so popular they would become a collector’s item themselves.

California legislators who want Michael’s fans to vote for them might want to go ahead and authorize the project without waiting for a referendum. Any excess fees from “Michael Jackson State Park” could be used to fund other state park activities. Then there are the tax revenues that tourism would generate. Perhaps Congress could provide funds to upgrade roads to the site.

American music companies have often accused China of pirating American CD’s etc. Will American apathy allow China to pirate Neverland too? I see no harm in China providing a duplicate for Michael’s Asian fans who cannot afford to come to the United States. Americans shouldn’t have to travel to China to visit Neverland.

China’s Neverland won’t be ready for a year. The original already exists and could be opened at any time.

Susan | 7/10/2009, 4:38 pm EST

My thoughts and prayers are with the Jackson family and I hope they will be allowed some peace to mourn their loss. Michael was truly a gift and we are fortunate that they so lovingly shared the memorial with us. Michael — we miss you and wish the very best for your children! They will do well. You would have been SO proud of Paris! for her UNSCRIPTED and beautiful remarks!

Why are so many who claim to be fans so adamantly stating Michael should be buried at Neverland? Obviously they never watched his programs as he expressly stated he would never return there?! It would be so inappropriate to place him where he specifically has stated he does not want to be!… Yes he loved it there at one time, but lying young children (for whom he designed the place) and vicious media ruined it for him. It is sad, but true.

He deserved ANOTHER memorial resting place that is untarnished by a history that brought pain to him.

RIP Michael!

Erene | 7/10/2009, 6:21 pm EST

Yeah Never land should become a memorial park, michael jackson should be buried in never land by the tree he use to write his songs at..
Peace..Erene

denise | 7/10/2009, 11:52 pm EST

I’m admittedly torn. I suppose the more selfish side of me would like to see the first option, simply because then it would be a place that the fans can actually come to and visit. However, I know the last option is more in keeping with what Michael would have wanted. Given the choice between a circus shrine and a hospital to actually benefit children, there really is no choice. However, that being said, if the place were to be turned into a Graceland tourist attraction, the profits could certainly go to benefit Jackson’s own kids as well.

destiny | 7/11/2009, 1:40 am EST

First of all: To you Hubba bubba ding dong. You are so jealous and childish. You better watch yourself, before you end up in a box before your time. Why do you hate. Its obvious that MJ was talented, and loved people. And has done more for people than you can dream or think of. Please dont embrass yourself anymore with your stupidy and ignorance. You are ignorant. (piss on his grave?) You will reap what you are sowing…

destiny | 7/11/2009, 1:50 am EST

Michael will be missed greatly. My heart goes out to his family and children. Words cant express how my heart mourns for this young, talented and gifted man. He has left way before his time. However,I am so impressed with the great things that he accomplished on this earth. Eventhough he left prematurely (50yrs)his accomplishments are still far more than most. I am proud of him in so many ways. Neverland would be served best, I feel by restoring it back to its original state and allowing under-priviledged children to visit the range as Michael used to allow them. And enhancing it so that tourist could visit and honor his memory as well. It was a beautiful and loving idea to have this place for children. I feel that Michael loved children. And because he missed most of his childhood life, he wanted to express this by helping other children and by giving back to them. And Because he gave back so much to others and children, God will always take care of Michaels children. He has sowed those good seeds and his children will reap those blessings. Michael rest in Peace. I love you forever.

Hello:
I will get right to the point. I have actually two topics. First of all, Michael didn’t like to be gawked at, at Neverland unless he was inviting people in. When he was forced to leave Neverland, due to the expense, it broke his spirit, and he said he would never return to Neverland.
First, deepest condolences to Mrs. Jackson, and the whole Jackson family.
However, in respect to Mrs. Jackswon,(Katherine) I feel it would be in appropritate to bury Michael at Neverland, since he didn’t want to return there ever, it broke his heart to leave. He didn’t like to be gawked at, there, and stayed hid inside when fans lined up.
He was “The King Of Pop, but once he said, he would like to know how it feels to be normal. He also said, “He gets tirard of being stared at when he is recognized, and that’s why if he could change one thing about his life, he would like to know how it feels just to be normal, and he also said, he wanted to be treated like a person not a personality.
In respect to Katherine Jackson, and the rest of the Jackson family, and since he loved his mother so, so, much, and Jermaine was so close to him, I feel the appropriate place for Michael to be buried is at the Jackson family compound, where his mother, and other family members reside.

Sincerely
Annoymou s-My next comment is very, very important, and if you can it needs to be sent to Jermaine Jacskion.

Hello,

I never met Michael Jackson, but I saw him interviewed, after he married, Lisa Marie Presley, during the Summer of 1994. I thought, that he seemed, very nice, and I was very sorry, that his marriage, to Lisa Marie, did not work out, as they seemed like a very happy couple.

I think that the Neverland Ranch, should be used, as an orphange, for disadvantaged children, around, the world, which is something, that I think, that Michael would have really wanted, especially with regard to the humanitarian work, that he did, which I really do feel, that he did not get the credit, that he
so rightly deserved!

I also feel, that the Neverland
Ranch, should be opened, to the
Public, every so often, but I really do not feel, that Michael would have wanted it, to be converted, into a Mausoleum, as I
have gathered, that he loved to hear the sound of happy children, around the place, when he lived there!

I would really like to contact the Jackson family, where my views, are concerned, on this, because I was a part-time Drama student, for the best part of twelve years, and I am also a part-time writer, well I am more of a hack part-time writer, really! And I do understand, that pressures of showbusiness, that Michael had to put up with, to a certain extent, anyhow!

I have noticed, that there are some people, have posted, a lot of positive comments, on this website, and if anybody can inform me, how I could contact the Jackson family, where this is concerned, then I would be very much obliged to them! Thank you.

I deeply regret, not trying to get to know, how much Michael meant to his fans, while he was alive, as much as I could and SHOULD have won, but I was very naive, about how close, he was to his fans, over the years! And, I must confess, that I am a little bit shy, where the really big names, in showbusiness, are concerned! But I have learnt, that there was nothing selfish, about Michael Jackson, while he was alive, and they do say, that it is never too late! And perhaps, I can make amends, where his memory, is concerned, in a very small way, anyhow!

Thank you for your time.

I have observed that some people have posted a lot of inappropriate comments on this site. So…can anyone inform me how I might contact Michaels family? I would be very much obliged because I want to tell his wonderful, normal, genuine and not at all dysfunctional family to inform them I will be contacting them to discuss strategy about how to deal with such rounders, bounders, hounders, and of course, scoundrels! I intend to pour old honey on them, roll them in flour, cover them with feathers and crocodile scales, then let them bake in the noon day sun as a reward. Thank you.

as an observer to this completely one sided, ahem…”competition” (self declared so by the backward hubba “type”), i have to say it is literally “game, set, and match”, to Han D. Job!

no doubt!

I mean…the hubba type now blogs in ALL upper cae…wow! this shows the hubba type has lost it, and is now shouting (remember…blogging etiquete folks).

In fact, it is not even a blog from the hubba type, it is simply an uneducated rant!

whereas Han D. Job blogs in a thoughtfyl, educated, insightful, and non rude, polite, and professional manner.

If I was you Han D. Job…I would not waste my time blogging in reply with the hubba type…if you do, you are casting pearls before swine!

While I can’t think of any reason why to go to the Los Angeles area, I would consider it if there were a Neverland a la Graceland. Still, I wouldn’t suggest a second Graceland -one is more than enough. Gary Indiana needs the tourism more, and that is where it all got started. Plus that way it could be more of a Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson museum, to give the family its due.

Neverland Ranch should be turned into something that benefits needy and/or sick children. That is certainly the option that is most respectful to the memory and spirit of Michael Jackson.

AND, ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE: ARE YOU THERE?? Do you think you could be a little less lazy about your website and take some care with and exert some control over the comments section of your posted articles? There are TOO MANY ridiculous comments that have nothing to do with the article. It’s very off-putting to the rest of us.

The news about Michael Jackson was heartbreaking. It’s very sad that people are still picking him apart after his death. Let the man rest in peace. After all the things that the media put him through, I think he deserves to be left alone. And about Neverland being the final resting place for Michael is against everything that he vowed. After the 2003 molestation trials, he vowed never to go back. Michael always said he wanted to know what it was like to be normal… so do the normal thing, and put him where his family will be after they pass on.

RIP MICHAEL

What would be a fitting fate for Neverland?

My vote is to turn it into a nuisance dump! Heck it has been full of nuisances, and nuisance behaviour, since the King of Nuisance (MJ) bought it for the singular purpose of turning it into the nuisance capitol of the world!
However, I am open also to letting the children of the world decide what should be a fitting fate for Neverland.
Yes…let the children decide. Let the children decide what to do with Neverland. Let the children decide. For they are innocent. The children will know best what to decide. Let the children decide. For they are innocent.

Mill | 8/9/2009, 12:09 am EST

I think Neverland should never be a Neverland for Michaael Jackson. I think the Gary town where perfect for him because that’s where his legacy started. And I also believed that the AEG and the Colony capital killed him so they can control his estate.

ilovmj | 9/21/2009, 3:21 pm EST

neverland is a nice place and a very pretty memory of mj, even he wouldnt turn to that place anymore.

i think neverland is better to be something for children all over the world, just like michael did for them. a children hospital + an amusement park are perfect for that.

Michael Jackson..its avery beatiful name. I love u mike. miss u alwayss…:(

antwon | 9/25/2009, 1:50 am EST

they sold put michaels stuff back and make a musium

antwon | 9/25/2009, 1:51 am EST

they shuld i mean

Mike | 10/2/2009, 9:58 am EST

Michael’s dream was the children, let them benefit from Neverland it’s a win win situtation. Proceeds should go to charity to help sick and dying children. Otherwise it’s all in vain.

dennis | 10/29/2009, 6:20 pm EST

I think it should be restored back to when he lived there. Put the rides back and open it up for tours. Other then that whats the point

Lyarrum | 10/29/2009, 11:40 pm EST

Michael would have wanted a childrens hospital. Or a place where the children’s hospital’s could allow the children to go, to escape their illnes.

Donnalee Reynor | 11/15/2009, 2:22 pm EST

It would seem to me that Michael saw Neverland as a place to get away from sickness and pain for children, so I don’t see that he would have wanted a hospital there. But a place that would be free to those children recuperating from their illness sounds perfect and what Michael would have wanted. And opened at specific times to the paying public where it would then pay for itself. Michael went out of his way to hold onto it with at least a small part of the ownership, so I don’t think he wanted to give up on it completely. I love you Michael.
