Film Featuring Young Jack White to Screen At Comic-Con

7/2/09, 12:31 pm EST

The upcoming documentaries It Might Get Loud and Under Great White Northern Lights won’t be the only films featuring Jack White on the big screen this year: One of the White Stripes frontman’s earliest acting roles will reportedly screen at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego on July 23-26th, TwentyFourBit reports. The film is a sci-fi spoof called Mutant Swinger From Mars, and it features a roughly 23-year-old White — or John Gillis, as he was called back then — in the minor role of Mikey.

White can be briefly seen in the film’s trailer up top, sporting a strange bowl cut out of the 1950s, the era the film spoofs (Ed Wood’s 1959 cult classic Plan 9 From Outer Space is an obvious inspiration). According to TwentyFourBit, Mutant Swinger director Michael Kallio began filming in 1997 on a shoestring budget of $22,000, and while in-progress cuts of the film appeared throughout the years, it’ll officially premiere at Comic-Con. According to the YouTube page hosting the trailer, the film’s synopsis is “Aliens from Mars come to Earth and force a mad scientist to ‘create’ a ‘chick magnet’ to lure women so, they may take them to Mars because.. Mars needs women, of course.”

White, who in recent years also appeared in Cold Mountain and as Elvis Presley in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, actually made his film debut as an uncredited alter boy in the 1987 Donald Sutherland thriller The Rosary Murders, the singer/actor’s IMDB lists. As Rock Daily previously reported, the White Stripes’ 2007 Canadian tour will be turned into a doc called Under Great White Northern Lights, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

This film should be direct to video.

Actually,.. back then, he was calling himself Jack White, so he is credited as “Jack White” in his supporting role and Ralph,.. why “should” it be direct to video? Have you seen it? Because, it’s not that bad, not bad at all… Maybe it should go to theaters? Maybe your opinion won’t sway distribution companies from putting it in theaters.

I’ve seen this film and thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course, I’m old enough to have seen all of the films that are spoofed in it. Take a chance, go see it.

The Kind of Movie Michael Bay Couldn’t Make if he only had Twenty-Two G’s… Very Campy, Very Funny… I have seen it and Enjoyed the Hell out of it… its Sooo Awful ( on purpose…) its Awesome… it deserves a “Smoke One-Cult-MidNight-Movie-Lift a Cocktail-Status” atleast… not a “should be direct to video” Poo-Pooing…

I saw the rough cut of this film awhile back and it is hysterical! I would label this film as “The Last Great Bad 50’s Sci-Fi Film”. Definitely destined for cultism.
