Michael Jackson’s Body Heads to Neverland for Public Viewing

Michael Jackson’s body will be transported Thursday, July 2nd to the singer’s Neverland Ranch for a public viewing, CNN reports. The viewing will be held Friday morning, with a private memorial service planned for Sunday, July 5th. Law enforcements officials told TMZ that Jackson’s body would be transported in a 30-car motorcade. Security and traffic control are being discussed, TMZ notes.

Despite rumors that Jackson will be laid to rest at Neverland, no official confirmation regarding where the singer will be buried has been announced. According to the Huffington Post, Mayor Rudy Clay of Gary, Indiana is lobbying hard to convince the Jackson family that Michael should be laid to rest in the singer’s boyhood city. The plan would call for the downtrodden city to reportedly erect an entire museum and performing center dedicated to the Jacksons, with Michael’s grave the heart of the attraction. “If they can do it for Elvis Presley in Graceland, we can do it for Michael Jackson in Gary,” Clay told the AP.

According to CNN, Clay expects Jackson’s body will be present when the city holds a memorial to the singer next week. “I believe that his body will lie in state in Gary, Indiana,” Clay told CNN. “Now, it may not happen, but I believe it will.” The Gary, Indiana memorial is just one of the many Michael Jackson tributes reportedly planned in the coming months. As Rock Daily reported, the singer’s planned This Is It! concert may become an all-star tribute in the coming weeks.

In other Jackson news, CNN reports that Jackson family lawyer Londell McMillan said that they’ve located a Michael Jackson will dating back to 2002. However, according to the Wall Street Journal, it is unclear if the unearthed will is the latest version. According to the WSJ, the 2002 will leaves Jackson’s assets to his three children, his mother Katherine and various charities, but nothing to his father Joe Jackson.

Long live the king of pop

Rachael | 6/30/2009, 3:49 pm EST

I reside in the NW Indiana area, lived in Gary for the 1st 16 yr of my life, during the time the Jacksons were up and coming…Didn’t know any of them personally but was hearing about them in local news…this region has always been proud of Michael’s rise and that of his brothers, so I can see why the mayor would want him to ‘come home’, as it were. But on the other hand, I can’t help but wonder if he is more into seeing the revenue generated, rather than any sentimental feelings….the NW Indiana region is suffering the economy hard, and I think the mayor is looking to the revenue, plain and simple. However, I will be one of those in attendance on July 10th for a memorial at the Railcats baseball park in Gary, because it simply wouldn’t feel right not to attend.

maggie | 6/30/2009, 4:51 pm EST

he will be missed by his family and his fans that sang his songs with him on the video and in concerts and i will miss his smilling face and the wave to his fans

Ma'Zoey | 6/30/2009, 5:48 pm EST

Rudy Clay is right on the money. Gary Indiana as well as the Jackson family shared their gem of a son with the rest of the world, it would only be fair for the rest of the world to flock down to Indiana for centuries to come, to pay tribute to the King of pop, and in so doing, generate revenue for his home town.

I’LL MISS YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.(:

Silvanna | 6/30/2009, 8:18 pm EST

I believe that although Gary is Michael’s childhood home, the place did not generate good memories for him. Although he was accused of child molestation while residing in Neverland, it has been said that he was truly happy there, thus I believe that his body should be buried where he found the most happiness. I am saddened that we have lost such an iconic man. I am also a bit taken a back by Joe Jackson’s recent BET appearance, he did not seem to be mourning the loss of his son but rather there to promote his label.

gemstone | 6/30/2009, 8:18 pm EST

I don’t want to sound mean, but considering the way Michael looked the past few years of his life, I think a public viewing would be… scary. I’m sorry, but an open-casket affair for Michael would be quite inappropriate, because even when he was alive he looked like a corpse. Seriously, I’m not trying to be cruel, but let’s be honest, would you really want your last image of Michael to be him lying in a coffin?

Gwynnview | 6/30/2009, 8:46 pm EST

I had the same thought about the appearance in a casket . . . just that he’d probably look pretty similar to the way he looked at the end alive.

There is probably some point to “closure” for people. I remember when Selena was killed, her parents had a viewing, and stated that they did it partly so there would not be “Selena sightings” after her death.

The thing that stands out to me is the suggestion that MJ’s body be brought back to Gary, Indiana. MJ’s life essentially has been a life defined by charity and the helping of those far less fortunate. It seems that there are not to many cities, or states for that matter that could use as much help as the ones formentioned. From that standpoint, what could make more sense?

Beverly Arzola | 6/30/2009, 9:35 pm EST

I hope that Michael is buried in the neverland ranch so that we have somewhere to go and pay our respects to our king of pop. I can’t believe that Michael is no longer with us and i will miss him very much he was the best entertainer and talented person on earth but he will live on forever through lots of generations to come and never be forgotten or replaced. I would like to pay my respects to his children who he loved with all his heart and also to his family especially his mother and father who gave the world a great performer who inspired many. Rest in peace Michael and your star will shine forever in our universe.

I think Michael would be mortified if he knew he would be viewed after his death by thousands of people. He was an extremely private person and it seems unfitting that his family would want to do this to him. I think our last memory of him should be of the brilliant entertainer that he was. Let the poor guy rest in peace. Don’t display him like some sort of circus animal.

your such a legend michael

Jay G | 7/1/2009, 10:00 am EST

Words can’t even express what michael meant to me,he was the begining of my love and desire to become an entertainer. My mother is trully blessed that she had the chance to meet Michael at a concert of his in 75,being an 80’s baby I grew up on the “Pop” images of Michael versus my mother being the same age as Michael she related 2 him more, same age group lol. But seriously every entertainer anyone can think of has jocked some for of Michaels swagger, his art his craft and despite what’s been said about him, what he’s been accused of he has his impact on entertainment, and not even just that he even pu the efforts there to make the world a lil less cruel, despite the hurtful, despiseable, slanderous rumors and gossip that was put out on him,he lived his life, sadly though not 2 it’s fullest society, supposedly civilized society taunted, ridicueled, and discraced this poor guy who was so great, that he never even figured out how special he was.autopsy reports at this faze don’t even matter becuse the media, press and even fan that weren’t as supportive and understanding killed Michael Jackson, last thursday my world had shatter when I foucused on the negative, but the good thing is tha he’s in God company now,the same as God will give his children the serenity they need to grow up aknowlegeing the great man their father was. The same as God gonna have to work on Joe,and to give Kathrine and Mike sibling and nieces and nephews the streghth to come together as a family. Our responsibility as fans should be to know how to support individuals as citizen like ourselves usuing their niche for survival and stop putting them on pedal stools that as soon as the make mistakes we’re ready to knock them down. To coclude I really pray the Jackson’s think twice with the public veiwing of Michael, even though his soul is finally at peace his legacy shouldn’t include him being mocked in death as he had been at points of his life, nor should his body rest anywhere he couldn’t peacefuly do so alive, the location should be secret,I mean Michael Jackson The Greatest Entertainer In The World’s Body would be no more vulnerable to scavengerous buzzards than King Tut,think about it Jackson Familey you all are really all you got who you really can trust, and this may seem cleche’,but I love you Michael Rest in Peace man, beyond your professional image, the good soul u had compensated for every flaw u misunderstood urself for haveing, the journey we had despite not knowing u personally,I understood it all,not 2 sound self richous man but I know u in heaven cuz I knew ur heart, the pain u carried with u and all every day I live I pray for ur kids man, they’re gonna hurt for a long time, until one day they’ll be able to reflect the good father you stride to be teaching them the way with laughter, unlike Joseph with pain. God it hurts, but Father he is yours as we all are and our time here is borrowsd,damn…R.I.P. Michael

If he’s buried at Neverland, I hope no one pays a penny to go. Enjoy his music, it was wonderful, but don’t deify a drug addicted pedophile who was irresponsible in all of his dealings. He was the “King of Pop” no doubt. But he’s not a role model for anyone. Let him rest.

Kim | 7/1/2009, 1:43 pm EST

He was my first boyfriend, back in the day he was the first for a lot of us young girls. I (We) had his pictures and his brothers on our walls and in some cases the ceiling (his face was the first face we wanted to see in the morning and at night). I can remember singing and dancing along with him on the radio to ABC it’s easy as 123. When he sang I’ll Be There of course he was speaking to me,ask some of my girlfriends and they would declare the same. I danced with him on Soul Train, American Bandstand and anywhere else I could find him on the station, even if it meant adjusting the rabbit ears. Before the moonwalk I did the robot with Michael, he was a Dancing Machine. I will never forget my mom took me to my first concert, of course the Jackson 5, and of course I thought we was looking directly at me… I can’t imagine music in my generation without him, I am grateful for the gifts he has given to all of us. He will be missed…God Bless his family…Continue to be strong and stand in your Faith.

What a legacy to leave!! King of Pop is right. With a long history
Pill Popping, shooting up, lavish spending, failure to pay debtors and sleeping with little blond boys, blind-sided feverish fans are willing to ignore it all just because “Beat It” & Thriller” turned them on. To pay homage to such idolatry is sick as Whacko-Jacko was.

Lara | 7/1/2009, 4:22 pm EST

no matter how famous michael might have been. You have to understand that when GOd wants you that is your time to go. No one should be sad everyone should just make sure that he is not forgotten, and that by keeping his music alive just like other music celebritys such as tupac, biggie, selina, and many more they will never ever be forgotten. May his Soul rest in peace and let him rest in peace. He is human just like all of us at one point we all got to go with the lord almighty the one you should never forget

I was living in my hometown of Memphis, TN, when Elvis OD’d on his commode seat in the national shrine called Graceland. The aftermath was a nightmare (refuted autopsy findings, hysterical fans, media onslaught from fucking everywhere, and practically burying him twice). Just like Michael Jackson. They can’t seem to put the poor bastards in the ground without wringing every emotional and monetary moment out of it. RIP my ass.

At occasional meeting of Michael Jackson, the Icon, accompanied by his friends entered our Company to select coin-operated video and table arcade games, all co-workers became fired up with enthusiasm and passion. I love him.

In all occasions he ordered his games be set on FREE-PLAY.

His Neverland playhouise boasted the most sophisticated and rarest
games. Of one model, the largest, most fun and electrokinetically complicated, there were only 2 made and set up by the manufacturer on location.

The other one — at the world’s greatest Entertainment center in California.

I think it’s a disgrace that everybody is holding this child molester in such high degree. Who pays off his accusers so that the doesn’t have to go through a trial B.S.! If you are innocent, you go through the trial and PROVE your innocence. Screw the gold casket, cremate him and flush his ashes down the toilet where he belongs.

tragedy indeed | 7/8/2009, 1:34 am EST

The tragedy is not the loss of michael jackson, but of the common sense of mankind. Michael was a child molester – how do you think the children identified his genatila from photos that were randomnly shown to them. It is time we protect the children of our nation and world, and not get lost in the star power of an individual. There are those that say look at his difficult past and childhood, as if that gives him some excuse to do what he did to innocent children. Then shouldn’t we turn the other cheek for ted bundy – he had a really rough childhood too. Where would it stop.

He had a wonderful music talent – but how does that overshadow the crimes he committed. So he could sing and dance real nice and therefore has a right to hurt a helpless child.

And lastly if you think he didn’t have it in him to do this sort of thing – come on. Just look what he did to his own body, what makes you think he would respect anyone else’s body.

Wake up people – you know the truth.

shawn | 7/8/2009, 5:53 am EST

Wake up asshole (tragedy indeed) Michael Jackson was acquitted of all charges in connection with accusations of child molestation.
And you talk about children have seen his genitals, wrong again. Only Jordy Chandler has said. By the way the police photographs didn’t match with Jordan’s description of his genitals.

Next time get your facts straight before you charge someone with a crime.

RIP Michael

To ALL HATERS: of Micheal Jackson, guess what we have all sined and there is no bigger or smaller sin, SIN IS SIN, Only JESUS DID NOT SIN!

Rest In Peace Micheal, You might have been troublee in your last days but no one can take away your contribution to good music , you were an Icon and forever will be,. Rest in Peace Micheal i just hope you had a chance to ask GOD for forgiveness of whatever sins you committed, because we all have sin and have come short of the glory of god. Wonderful dancer , singer, father, brother sleep on.

i am a mom and know that if someone
touched my child i’m not settleing
for money i’m gonna see your ass
in jail then maybe civil suite
i never believed mj was guilty and
never will, he was child like
himself and the people around him
saw away to take advantage and get rich. michael was a loving person
who cared deeply for people sure
a little different but most geniuses are, we the people judged him largely because of his looks.
our dibelief in him destroyed him
making him a very sad and lonley person, ican tell you no parent is
settleing for money, it was a money scam, RIP MICHAEL1
