Paramedics Spent Over An Hour Trying To Resuscitate Michael Jackson, Brother Jermaine Says

More details surrounding Michael Jackson’s tragic and sudden death have emerged in the hours since the King of Pop was confirmed dead at the age of 50. Jackson’s brother Jermaine Jackson told the media at a press conference that he believes Michael died of cardiac arrest, but advised the press to wait until the cause of death was discovered, the AP reports. Jermaine added that both paramedics and Jackson’s personal doctor attempted to resuscitate the singer at his home in Los Angeles, and doctors at the hospital spent an hour trying to revive the singer. Jermaine Jackson also praised the “heroic efforts” of the doctors who tried to resuscitate Jackson.

(Look back at Michael Jackson photos, cover stories, album reviews and more.)

Despite reports of cardiac arrest, according to the Los Angeles Times, the cause of death remains unclear. Following Jackson’s death, the Los Angeles Police Department opened up an investigation and planed to interview Jackson’s family, doctors and anyone else associated with the singer on a frequent basis to get to find a possible cause of death. However, the LAPD said they found no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing, and that an investigation is often the procedure in all high-profile deaths.

TMZ reports that Jackson’s autopsy will be conducted tomorrow by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office. At roughly 6:30 p.m. PT, CBS News filmed video of Jackson’s body, covered in sheets, being wheeled on a stretcher into a Sheriff’s helicopter, likely to bring the body to the coroner’s office.

TMZ also reports that Michael Jackson did attend rehearsals for his This Is It! concerts last night at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, singing and dancing with his backup dancers. Jackson reportedly showed up several hours late for the rehearsal, which was normal, and that he was “listless,” which a source tells TMZ was also normal.

Update: The UCLA Medical Center released the following statement:

“The legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 2:26 p.m. It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home. However, the cause of his death is unknown until results of the autopsy are known. His personal physician, who was with him at the time, attempted to resuscitate Jackson, as did paramedics who transported him to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Upon arriving at the hospital at approximately 1:14 p.m., a team of doctors, including emergency physicians and cardiologists, attempted to resuscitate him for a period of more than one hour but were unsuccessful. Jackson’s family requests that the media respect their privacy during this tragic period of time.”

It’s sad for everybody close to him – he is also just a human person who was a son, brother and had the same dreams, hopes and fears as the rest of us.

Get real, WHO CARES, Jackson didn,t die because of his beliefs, his body packed up, if you all need a religious crutch, bully for you, Ii respect but feel sad for you, most of the rest of us enjoy life in the here and now and are good people who don,t need a religious perspective to sustain themselves

Long live King of pop in our hearts.

I remember the documentary with Martin Bashir.
They were at a shop where a huge replica of an ancient Egypt sarcophagus was displayed.
Martin: would you like to be burried in this?
Michael: no.
Martin: what would you like to happen to you?
Michael: I would like to live forever.

I’ve just come across this site. I’m not big pop fan, but there can be no doubt that Michael Jackson for all his weaknesses, of which we all have, was a very talented man. I enjoyed his music. Above all else we shouldn’t forget he leaves behind a young family.

Shane...Sydney, Australia | 6/26/2009, 8:44 am EST

Wish you all the best wacko jacko you are a true legand.

All you CLOSE-MINDED people who are taking this very sad situation, espcially for the Jackson family, and DEGRADING AND JUDGING someone else’s religion, should be ashamed of yourselves, and have some respect for Michael and his family, if your so “sad & heart-broken” over his untimely death. This is not the time or place to air your personal opinion.

My heart goes out to the family.

If anyone is responsible for the choices Michael made and the stress is the negative AMERICANS who always called him “crazy” or a “child abuser” and those who chose to use their children as pawns to get money out of a wealthy, rich, genious who loved people and children deeply. You all are on the outside looking in and acting as you know the truth when none of you know anyone personally in the family! Uh, I don’t any of you, but I can start rumors!! What good what that do? How would you feel? Not everything you hear in the media is true! Example why are there reports from so called managers that Janet was in London when she heard the news about her brother and was in flight to La and another stating she was in Atlanta because of filming for her reoccuring role in Tyler Perry’s movie I Can Do All Bad By Myself Too??? People, all you can do is speculate and assume and we all know the saying about those that ASSUME they are making a “ASS” (yes I said ASS) out of themselves. Have a heart for his family for goodness sake!!!

Even as Brian Williams said on Nightly News, he was a talented performer but had a troubled life. The best thing to say is that he isn’t suffering from anything anymore and condolences to his family. No matter who you are, losing a family member is one of the hardest things to endure.

The most disheartening aspect of the majority of your commments is that people would have the AUDACITY to correlate Michael’s death to whatever form of religion or faith he has practiced during the course of his life. That fact of the matter is that people die EVERY DAY, from all walls of life, faiths and religions!! GET A GRIP PEOPLE!! Death = Death. Nothing more…nothing less. You show NO RESPECT by posting comments about religion. BE HONORABLE, by expressing some sort of grief for another life that was lost. Afterall, that’s point of the comment section. We should merely be paying our respects to a life that has ended. At the end of the day, he was nothing but a MAN and only the Alpha and Omega has the WILL AND POWER to determine where he goes beyond this system of things! AND I’M CERTAIN..YOU WILL NOT be there when Michael’s judgement is read. Just as Michael will be absent when YOUR judgement is read! STOP THE MADNESS! I’M SURE, WHATEVER HEIRARCHY YOU PRAY TO DOES NOT SEE FIT FOR YOU TO PLAY GOD “THE PREDICTOR OF MICHAEL’S FATE!!” You disrespect YOURSELVES and ULTIMATELY YOUR GOD..in doing so! Even an Athiest would profess the same to you POOR EXAMPLES!!

Any Athiest on the site..SHOULD PAY YOUR FORM OF RESPECT IN EITHER ENLIGHTENMENT, SHARING MEMORIES OR SIMPLY OFFERING CONDOLENCES! THAT’S IT! You don’t argue, but rather, you beleive in what you beleive because IT’S YOUR BELIEF!! It serves NO purpose to anyone but YOURSELF to profess what you DO NOT BELEIVE IN! Talk about your experience at one of his shows or perhaps actually being silly enough to buy a glitter glove. That’s the point of this commmentary. Plain and simple.

TRUE TO FORUM: Last night, I was recanting all of my fond memories of Michael Jackson in my youth. I had the LP of Thriller as a child and was so in loooove with him during my childhood. I often use the phrase, “I used to carry a picture of Elvis and Prince in my Michael Jackson Beat-It purse”. LoL. That’s the truth! I adored his music and many others too! That phrase brought to mind something that I had long forgotten. I had a blue Michael Jackson pleather purse with a small pic of his face on the front. It was the “Thriller” album cover pic. I’ll never forget it! My granny actually had a purple one..and that’s what makes it so funny to me now. Those were the days! I don’t know if the purse was local to my area, but I cannot find it anywhere. I have searched vintage collections and I can’t find it. Does the purse that I describe sound familiar to any of you? I’m not looking to buy the purse. I don’t know how to be fanatical about humans for my homage goes to only one (much higher to all of us)..but it is a funny thought and I simply haven’t seen this purse since the 80’s. Back then, everyone was carrying it. LoL!

Nikki | 6/26/2009, 9:21 pm EST

I would like to be clear that any previous posts from me was not meant to be argumentative in nature at all, because there is nother for me to argue. I knew him, now members of the family and can validate my points more than anyone that is posting on this site!!! Again, religion has nothign to do with any of this!! Also, Michael was not Muslim and never converted to the Muslim religion! You so called fans of Michael don’t realize you are also a catalyst in why he felt people misunderstood him but you are. Because he hired Nation of Islam of people as security in the past, people automatically assume he had turned Islam! Uh, no!!!! My brother in law is a well known actor in Hollywood and his father/my father in law is a Muslim and Uh NO Michael was not one of them! Sorry!! Jermaine, yes, Michael, uh NO!!!!!!! Stop talking and spreading what you don’t know! Those who are giving so called true testimonies, identify yourselves, first and last name and state how you know Michael and the family personally! Not that you shook his hand or met him or family members once, but that you KNOW them, meaning you all talk often, they know you by name and you can give heartfelt testimonials and pictures of you knowing them! Can you??? If not, SHUT UP! Thank you!!!!!

Mohammad Nawaz | 6/26/2009, 9:31 pm EST

It is sad news and I pray to almighty Allah to have mercy on our brother M. Jackson and grant him a place in paradise and peacful life hereinafter. Although it is great loss to all of us however I am very comfortable that the did not suffer and died very peacefully. I can see Farrah died on the same day too but she suffered a lot throughout her illness and I feel very sad for her too afterall she was a human being too. As for as MJ is concerned he chose to leave this world on the night of Thursday following the big day of Friday a very holly day for Muslims. He died as a Muslim and I believe that he is in good hands and inshaallah Allah will take good care of him.

May almighty Allah bless his body in the grave and soul in the heavens.”Ameen”

I come from a Catholic background. Have been through bouts with Judaism, Islam, but came back to Catholicism. Oh, well, only God knows the soul and we all struggle with the realities of our physical existence. Michael definitely had his own struggles.

At the end of the day his soul is in a different place, and his music remains with us.

Michaels Was Brother | 6/27/2009, 12:54 am EST

Yes, I am sad. Yes, I was shocked. But being a Muslim helps me with this grief. I know i cannot turn back time, i know it is useless to cry, so i don’t. He is where we will all be one day. The most i can do for him is put my hands together and beg my Lord to show him mercy. and grant him paradise. And to tell you the truth, my heart tells me that he has been successful in the hereafter aswell as in real life. Michael was an extra ordinary human being with a very kind heart, and had all the attributes a true Muslim possess. Its shows that divine justice always prevails and it was Michael’s destiny to die as a Muslim.
All you haters out there that want to dissociate Michael from his religion don’t you see the hypocrisy in your love for this kind man? On the one hand you claim to adore him and his music yet you feel he was deluded when it comes to his religion!!??
You kid no one but yourself, this is what you call divine intervention and divine justice. He deserves Jannah and Peace. Inshallah he has now got both. I say to those who oppose what i say to look into Michael s life and see that he wasn’t a stupid man – religion had always been an integral part of his mental makeup and thus before the end (thank God) he was gifted. Let Michael be a beacon of light to us all in more ways than just one. Ameen

No one can really be sure that they are the only ones who have the “truth”, The most we can do is love one another..even our enemies as the bible states…I am sure in my heart Farrah and Michael are at peace…finally.

I was Privileged to Meet Micheal in 1983.I said to him can I ask you a question? he said sure, then he said I knew you were gonna ask me that, I could feel the spirit from you, thus reflection . he really was the man in the mirrow. may that man rest in peace.

DM | 6/27/2009, 2:06 pm EST

Its amazing how when someone dies he becomes an idol a legend. But when he was alive most of those that are now saying “oh I am a MJ fan and I am devastated” did not continue to support him, no longer bought his records, as that is obvious he went into financial problems as he no longer was the money machine he used to be. So now he dies and everyone buys his records and everything else with his name on it. Why didnt everyone go bail him out financially when he needed it the most? Those are the things that urk me be about this world.

shorty74 | 6/27/2009, 4:20 pm EST

It DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU OR I THINK OF MICHAEL JACKSON, whatever he said and done during his life is now in the past as far as God is concerned. We as the living cant even handle whats on our own plate, let alone judge others. Michael, you are now in the best place you can be, in God’s memory, you have a better chance at getting the REAL LIFE (in paradise) than those of us still living in this terrible world. I hope your mother, children and family members will make it there to see you, just as I hope to get there to see my beloved parents. Til then, Michael, REST IN PEACE.

verity | 6/27/2009, 8:58 pm EST

At the end of the day Michael was a person like you and i with feelings and had like many a hard life growing up in this world, he was unable to be a normal child due to the media light and this was reflected by his desire to enjoy child like activities as an adult, he loved children and i doubt he ever hurt them as he just wanted to be free like them.

I hope it is soon that his body will be able to be really laid to rest…GOD rest his soul, the sad part is, will everyone else be able to give it a rest?

HIS STORY INSPIRES MY THE MORE TO BE DETERMINED TO ACHIEVE MY GOALS IN LIFE… BUT AT THE SAME TIME I WANT THE FATHER OF THE LITTLE KID JORDIE CHANDLER TO FACE THE WROTH OF THE LAW FOR MAKING MICHEAL TO GO THROUGH ALL THE HUMILIATIONS WENT FACED WHILE HE WAS ALIVE…!
