Michael Jackson Dead at 50

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that law enforcement and city officials have confirmed that Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, died today after suffering what has been reported as a cardiac arrest. Jackson was 50. According to reports, Jackson was not breathing when paramedics were called to his Los Angeles home this afternoon, June 25th. Paramedics at the scene performed CPR on the singer, who was then transported to the UCLA Medical Center. Jackson arrived at the hospital in a deep coma; attempts to resuscitate him failed as he was completely unresponsive. He was declared dead at 2:26 p.m. PST.

(Look back at Jackson’s life and career, in photos.)

Immediately following news of Jackson’s hospitalization, an unnamed member of the Jackson family told TMZ that the singer was in “really bad shape,” with Jackson’s father Joe adding that his son was “not doing so well.” In recent years, rumors of ill health have dogged Jackson, though the singer nor his reps ever confirmed any reports. (Read the music world’s reactions to Jackson’s death.)

Jackson was in Los Angeles for rehearsals for his This Is It! run of concerts at London’s O2 Arena, scheduled to begin on July 13th and run through the early months of 2010. As reported in the new issue of Rolling Stone, sources say that Jackson was frequently absent from the show’s rehearsals, and the run’s opening four shows were postponed for what an AEG Live rep called the “massive and technically complex” nature of the show.

As a testament to Jackson’s appeal despite years out of the musical spotlight, all 50 shows of the London run quickly sold out. Jackson is survived by his three children and an immeasurable musical legacy.

Now we can reflect on his musical legacy. He was a legend. Regardless of his off-stage troubles and the accusations that plagued him, he was a one-of-a-kind mega-star who recorded the quintessential pop album (with huge credit to Quincy Jones) that altered the direction of popular music forever. Goodnight, sweet prince.

Thanks, Rolling Stone.com for covering this story.

I hope the King of Pop will finally rest in peace after all the crap the media and money-grubbing people has thrown him over the years.

In some ways, it’s no wonder he collapsed – who wouldn’t when put under all that incredible scrutiny and for so many years and forced to live a life in utter seclusion because people are more interested in other people’s businesses than their own.

Love you, man, and I’ll miss you.

For black men who have grown up poor or in poverty, a social determinant of health, it is hard to eradicate even if socio-economic status improves later in life. Michael Jackson was one of a kind, he gave black people the start in reaching the the starts in terms of achievments. The Whites were always unhappy with his style and record. Two aquitals and many more close calls. Personally, I did not think he would last this long. He had had a good run in life and May God Rest His Soul.

Didn’t know his music grew up after his era. Don’t listen to pop music and have absolutely NO respect for almost any pop singers, but MJ was different. MJ was loved by all, even though he had his own personal…lets call them shortcomings.

We’ve now lost the King of Pop, and the King of Guitar in the past ten years in Dimebag, both way to early. Not a good last few years.

May he R.I.P.

Lyric Dysin | 6/25/2009, 7:21 pm EST

It’s not funny how easily people turn the table and talk well of a dead man, after haunting his life. So first off, let me confess that I’m not one of those people. Michael’s shining star never estinguished in my eyes. He was a genius. He was an America icon, who sadly no longer felt welcomed in his own country. He changed the way people accepted music. He made music come alive. Videos were only still images before Michael came along. Choreography was just a simple one-two step. Michael was the music’s version of Martin Luther King. He blended races with his talents, pressing crowds of white and black faces together, who was so overwhelmed by his greatestness that they felt compelled to cheer instead of scream. Yes, Michael did that! He made peace and love with heart piercing lyrics that made every person, at one time or another, look themselves in the mirror to seek self correction. Yes, Michael did that. And that is what I chose to remember. Not the scandal. Not the physical transformations. Not the accusations or the lies. Not even the way he spun around the stage wearing that shiny glove. I’ve rather decided to remember that Michael was a man who worked to use his talent to heal the world, to bring people together, and to bring a smile to the sick. My only wish is that now that he’s gone those who believe in his mission would do the same.

I was a break-dancer growing up and so of course Michael Jackson was a great influence in everything that related to dance back then as he was through out his career. I just recently lost my loving Mother to cancer and I know what it must be like for his sister Janet who must be hurting so deeply right now. Janet, please take care of yourself first – I know it is nearly impossible to think of yourself right now but please ask your family to do the same and just talk to him when you are alone – it really makes a difference – it’s okay to do that. May Michael Jackson rest in peace and may he always be around. God Bless You dude – seriously – you deserved another 40 years easily. And may God Bless the Jackson Family as well. I hope they all come together and take care of one another always. I don’t think he ever did any of the things he was accused of. See you around guy.

Anybody who was around when Thriller hit the scene in the 80’s understands that this is a sad day. That was Michael’s magical phase. The events after that time never ceased to get weirder and sadder as time went by. But the other half of this story is America’s sick obsession with celebrities. RIP Michael.

Michael Jackson was killed by the head of a vegas casino. It is clear when he backed out of his agreement in vegas, they did not take it to lightly. It just shows that the vegas underworld is still in control of everything. Michael jackson dead. Well some people are really happy and some people are going to break down and kill them selves. Michael Jacksons death will hopefully not go in vain. I hope the group who did this gets caught and opens the door on the vegas underground and how the killed michael jackson. It was clear Michael Jackson was murdered.

Oh and by the way we are on a nuclear standoff with North Korea in case any of you Jackson Haters Have not been watching the “real News” (not the tv) and Dont have the smarts to google anything outside of the Tv news headlines.

Poopsie – You are so hateful, even in this man’s death. If Jackson did those things with little boys, have you heard of forgiveness? Try to have a bit of taste. If you talk of heaven, are you a Christian? Based on your hateful, sarcastic, biting comments, I doubt it. Take a look at yourself. Judge lest ye be judged.

A true genius. The man made music what it is today. If you ask every artist there inspiration chances are they will say michael jackson. He soul may have gone up to heaven but his legend lives on. And will do for a very long time. I am horrified at some peoples responses, it’s sickening you even have the nerve to write the things you have. The family and children of mj deserve the decency an respect that any one deserves and that sure as hell is nasty and sick.

RIP The king of pop.
Let the ledgend live on.

From your 14 year old fan, my respect and love goes out to the Jackson family.

This is not the end. Only the beginning.

I just can’t believe how mean people can be. No matter what what went on in Michael’s personal life, the man was an icon and Poopsie, get a clue, hope no one talks like that when you die. (who calls themselves Poopsie? Ah yes, a person who has no clue, doesn’t have all the facts and can’t respect the dead, let alone the living.)

No one likes to see someone so young die but, culturally speaking, who cares? Mr. Jackson has been irrelevant for many years now. A shameless self-promoter who could never say no to an award, Jackson turned himself into a freak, a joke. Not to deny his talent, Jackson was a lot less than he thought himself to be (even making himself into a statue too be worshiped on the cover of an album) I could be persuaded to mourn for this man if he hadn’t turned himself and his career into an embarresment.

The end of a sad life yet not nearly as tragic as the sad victims of hid dark side.

poughkeepsiejohn | 6/25/2009, 8:52 pm EST

Growing up in the early to mid 1980’s, I was a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. I was so enamored of Bruce that in 1982, I actually told people that “Nebraska” would sell more copies that Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. “Nebraska” sold about two million records. “Thriller” sold over 26 million. Another example of me acting with my heart and not with my brains.

Having said that, I enjoyed Michael’s music like everyone else. How could you not enjoy it? Seeing him before was like watching Frankie Lymon and Jackie Wilson in their prime. For me, the highlight of it all was The Motown 25th Anniversary Special when he did The Moonwalk at The Apollo theater. Remember that? There was such an electricity about that moment that made people stand up and gasp. Not too many performers can do that.

Then came the weirdness. The plastic surgeries. The masks. The hyperbaric chamber. Bubbles. The two quickie marriages. The dangling of his kid above the balcony. The crotch grabbing. And of course, the child molestation charges. Soon, the weirdness overshadowed what made him famous to begin with: the music.

Like Elvis Presley, I always felt that Michael Jackson was a prisoner of his own fame and he was destroyed by the artificiality and loneliness that comes with it. There aren’t too much performers that can handle that. I guess this is the reason why I’ve always loved Bruce Springsteen. He understood what fame can and cannot do, almost from the start. As a result, Bruce always connected with people and also continued to make compelling music to this day.

Bruce is the kind of person who could walk down a street—any street—and feel at ease with people and not been overwhelmed by hysterical, screaming fans. How sad it is to think that Michael could never do that, even if he wanted to. Let us hope he has peace, wherever he may be.

DragoN | 6/25/2009, 8:53 pm EST

He left historical songs behind. A lot of money will be make on this, which makes me angry somehow. I hate music industry.

RIP, Michael…

NO Michael stabbed Paul (his former friend and duet partner) in the back and robbed MILLIONS from the most talented group of musicians in the past 100 years… Allegations aside, he was indeed a talented performer but definitely had very questionable ethics.

Ringo | 6/25/2009, 9:12 pm EST

Does this mean McCartney regains the rights to the Beatles music again?

glenn | 6/25/2009, 9:12 pm EST

No one will read this, most likely, but today is a sad day for music. Michael Jackson was the greatest pop star ever, hands down, whatever anyone says. He also serves as an example of how fame can destroy people. The man never had a chance to be a person, not since he was a child and not in death.

Rest in Peace, Michael! You will be missed. I have to admit to the fact that I never really listend to your music on a regular basis, but I have heard some songs hear and there. They were and still are very catchy.

You will remain a musical legend, and your legacy will never be forgotten! With that said, I hope you are in a better place!

R.I.P. My condolences goes out to the entire Jackson family. My sisters and I grew up listening to Michael. We hung up posters all around our bedroom, wore buttons and even the infamous leather jacket. You truly will be missed. God Bless.

POTUS | 6/25/2009, 9:25 pm EST

He Made Us Dance…and Think

He didn’t have a perfect life — but, he was perfectly talented and among the greatest artistic gifts African America gave to the world. Most of his biggest fans are beyond American shores. There was more to Michael Jackson than we will be able to fathom in one news story or event. How ironic that he passes in June — Black Music Month.

Let’s say it and be honest about it: Jackson was one of the first Black artist who gained and sustained both inter-generational, multi-ethnic and global appeal — STILL to this day. I for one, being that Michael Jackson was part of the soundtrack to many of our lives, will be doing my own personal retrospective about this genuinely phenomenal and gifted artist-entertainer.

How unfortunate, after he just turned 50, that too many of our best and brightest still die too young. I hope the infotainment and news media get it right tonight and the rest of this month (coincidently Black Music Month), and do the right thing — a lengthy substantive (in depth) retrospective-documentary on the man, the music, the roots and his impact. We deserve to know and remember much more about this most remarkable “Man In the Mirror.”

dlt | 6/25/2009, 9:27 pm EST

I was eight, nine years old. My family was friends w/ the black family down the road. The black family, the Simpsons, told me that the Rascals were a white band– they introduced me to the Jackson Five.

Michael Jackson was like James Brown when he first hit. He and his brothers were exciting to watch, w/ their tight as a drum Motown choreography. The Osmond Brothers were OK, but they tried to imitate the Jacksons.

Then I guess Michael went solo, w/ Ben, Rockin Robin (a rockin remake). I was rapidly beginning to lose interest. My sister had one of Jermaine Jackson’s solo projects, I Let Love Pass Me By, Sixteen Candles, etc.

The Jacksons had a hit in the late seventies. By then I was listening to Punk, New Wave, early Bob Dylan, old Motown, nothing new by the Jacksons.

Michael hit again as I flunked out of college. Rockin Eat It–I’m sorry, Weird Al. The riff from Billie Jean was lifted from–Steely Dan? The Moon Walk was nothing compared to James Brown, Tina Turner and the Ikettes, Mick Jagger and Iggy Pop. Michael was a (humorous, not too authenic) monster or tough in the videos.
(Then he started to change white.)

Father Joe didn’t like being poor. Who does? He saw a better life for his kids.

Dear Michael Jackson,

Thank you for all of your great music. You entertained the entire world and will never be forgotten. The good die young, and unfortunately your comeback plans weren’t to be.

I take solace in the fact that you made some of the greatest songs ever. And knowing that right now you’re in heaven. With the 72 virgins promised to all good men that have a combined age of 15.

RIP Michael. You will be missed. I will always be a fan along with millions of others. No matter what anyone says, he was one of the most, if not THE MOST, talented pop star we have seen. He has fans across the world, not just the US.

He was also a kind & compassionate person – keep the rude remarks to yourself. He was never convicted of anything, believe what you want. Be kind people, he was a person with feelings & his family has feelings as well. This man never had a chance to be a “normal” person with the fame & stardom at such a young age. May he find peace now.

A Girl | 6/25/2009, 10:48 pm EST

I can’t believe some of the people’s comments on here. When I started reading this I thought I was going to be among fellow fans who are upset & devastated by Michael’s death. People filled with so much hate should really reevaluate their own lives. I’m sorry for those people, Michael :( You put up with so much pain during your life, but you were loved by so many!! SO talented…we’ll remember you forever.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Michael Jackson’s family. I’m so terribly sad that he died. He is my favorite singer. To all you people who have something terrible to say about him…how dare you say nasty things about someone who has passed. YOU are a disgrace to the human race. You don’t think that anyone in their family reads any of these comments…HELLO? How disrespectful, and cruel could you possibly be? It’s too bad someone has to claim YOU as family or a friend…you’re just gross. Anyways, MJ we will always miss you. You ARE the greatest. R.I.P. Much Love.

Michael, I loved you as one of the Jackson 5’s, I bought every record you ever produced, my first to do thing when I came to America was to see your concert and did that during your Bad tour, you have been a very imporant role model to me in what you have accomplished in your life, you are the best entertainer the world has ever seen, I hope that you have not suffered much and had a good life, I pray for the future of your children and for peace and conodolences to your dear family.

Black Hole Sun | 6/25/2009, 11:04 pm EST

Like Billy Joel said, only the good die young.

Buddy Holly— age 22
Ritchie Valens— age 17
The Big Bopper— age 28
Elvis Presley— age 42
John Lennon— age 40
Freddie Mercury— age 45
Michael Jackson— age 50

If there’s anyone who truly deserves to rest in peace, it’s Michael. The last years of his life were hell, to say the least. No matter what your personal opinion about him is, you can’t deny that he had a larger-than-life impact on the music industry, matched only by Elvis and The Beatles. 90% of today’s pop stars will tell you themselves they wouldn’t be where they are if it weren’t for Michael. He’ll forever live on through his great music and the influence he had on other musicians. Too bad “news” networks like CNN prefer to only focus on the more sensational parts of his life. We have eternity to discuss the negative aspects of his life, I think for now we should show respect for the deceased and keep our mouths shut if we are unable to say anything good about Michael. :(

Yes Michael Jackson was a unique talent, one that I can never truely appreciate. I have never been a fan of his type of music. As Ringo so sharply asks, Does this mean that Paul will now own the rights to the music that Michael ripped off. He was unquestionably the King of Bizzare, both internally & externally. I will always believe that he was a pedaphile. He fit the profile perfectly. For those fans who are unable to come to terms with this, I feel sorry. With proper justice and a legal system that worked, he would have spent the rest of his life in prison.

Concerning jony lagoon and all the other people bashing Michael Jackson: First, natural selection involves the demise or survival of a species not an individual. I’d also like to point out that he did reside on this planet for 50 years, achieved what virtually no other artist has accomplished in his impact on millions of fans world-wide, made the beaucoup bucks (for those of a material bent), innovated pop music like no other, and concerted musical entertainment presentations in a manner that moved and swayed the whole world. What have you done lately, “Jony Lagoon”? Yes, it is the boon of the mediocre to bash the great. I can already hear you answer, “Let me tell you what i haven’t done lately, molest a child”. Truth is, neither you nor I know whether or not that is true. But I do know that there are the personality types that are predisposed to suspecting the worst in a person-they like the supermarket tabloids and Jerry Springer shows and like to gossip whenever the opportunity presents itself. I mean, it’s so much more fun to believe the worst in a person, especially a superstar. Makes us feel better about ourselves. Makes us feel as if we’re somehow better than the man who moved a planet. Such arrogance! Such pettiness! And for those who say he was “sick”, all the more reason to not bash this fellow, this artistic genius whose only mistake was to reach out to needy kids in a “sick” world. Jackson was deviant and i mean that in a good way; he was unique and exemplified the meaning of independent thinking. You can’t be what he was and be ordinary. I personally believe the allegations of child molestation are false. And why? Because he always presented with such a gentle soul. Only in conservative America inundated with religious freaks with sexual issues would they read into his sleeping with children as somehow nefarious. Adults sleep with children in Japan all the time. “This isn’t Japan”, i hear you say. And to that I say, “Isn’t that a shame”.
Let the man, the genius rest in peace.

Mary…Sorry for your obvious pain and anger but would you please respect our time of grief? Clearly someone has shown you great disrespect to cause such bitterness, but take the higher ground for all of our sakes and realise Michael Jackson shared with us his incredible talent so lets just celebrate that rather than use MJs passing as an opportunity to vent your hurt. Its not the time or place. RIP Michael Jackson.

JED | 6/26/2009, 2:47 am EST

Interesting! Concerning the statement from Oklahoma, it makes perfect sense you would feel as you do coming from an ultra conservative religious sector of the states. The whole world suffers your kind of prejudice and administration of whatever “justice” you feel you’re dishing out. And talk about “Out of context”. “Making righteous judgement” was Christ’s appeal to us to not blindly follow rules and regulations and to let our heart’s guide our way. This is Christ’s plea for us to think for ourselves. It was in the context of love trumping law. And even if MJ was guilty despite the several aquittals, perhaps that miniscule cerebral cortex of yours can remember the ole’ “All have fallen short”- and that includes YOU! This is precisely why we cannot judge; it would be calling the kettle black. Let’s stand in front of a mirror and point a finger at ourselves. And indeed, you cannot know if MJ asked for forgiveness as much as you cannot know if he even needed to do so; you nor anyone else truly knows if he’s guilty. Some say innocent, somesay guilty. The real answer is that nobody really knows. So here’s the point and summation to all this, since no one knows of his guilt, it only requires a person with a certain skew to his personality to predispose him to making either a positive or negative judgement call. And that tells you more about you than it does about Michael Jackson. Try believing in the best in people. God will forgive you if you’re wrong. And even if you’re not, you’re not in a position to judge, unless, of course, you’re perfect. Are you perfect? And if not, should we celebrate your death when it comes, as well?

If there is any after-life, and if that after-life is just, that man WILL pay for what he did in this life.

Being a great artist does not excuse one from being a human wasteland.

Besides that, it always sickens me to see people go all emo about a person they never met and could care less that they exist.

All I see is another corpse.

dfez1 | 6/26/2009, 8:45 am EST

This is a HUGE loss to music regardless of what you personally think of the man. Michael Jackson’s music and performance ability are undeniably genius. He was one of a kind. His music had the power to unite all people, regardless of geography, background, or what type of music people usually listen to. His music was above all of the barriers we humans impose on ourselves. Lastly, It’s impossible not to dance to it. Even if you don’t like Pop or Dance music, when you put on an MJ record, your body is moving without you even realizing it. GENIUS.

The end of an era. Many of us were inspired, intrigued and energised by Michael Jackson’s music.

He lived his life in the full, unrelenting glare of the media from a very young age due to his talent, and by doing the only thing he knew how to do superbly well.

Nobody knows what his demons were.

All that remains to be said is that he represented and epitomised an era of music the like of which may never be heard or seen again.

His passing warrants another phrase be added to Don McLean’s epic. American Pie.

Live on MJ, and rest in peace.

I’m sorry to hear that Michael Jackson has passed away as he was a very troubled man who was thrown into the limelight at a very young age. The people (or animals) that can say such nasty things about somebody who has just died are really sick individuals! How would you feel if it was a member of your family that people where being horrible about? You didn’t know him personally so therefore you don’t know the truth of the stories that are written so who are u to judge???? If you don’t like the guy why go on a website about him?? When I heard these sad news in the radio I was shocked. It´s hard to believe that Michael Jackson is dead now. It´s truly sad when people have to die so young and far too early. I´ve never been a big fan, but it´s undeniable that Michael Jackson was one of the greatest and most important artists of popular culture. He was a very talented singer and performer and his unique dance style inspired so many younger artists. But I think he had to become a star too early. Growing up without having a normal childhood is not good. The mass media regularly mentioned certain scandals, but nobody knows if they were true or not, so we shouldn´t judge him here. Whatever stories we heard about him, he was a human being. And in the end his main ambition was to deliver great music that will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace.

To all you sad and pathetic MF’ers:

I hope and pray that karma shows up and kicks every one of you in the teeth for making such ignorant and stupid remarks about someone who has just passed away. The man had more talent in a single hair on his head than you will ever have in 20 lifetimes. Remember that when you are standing in line to collect your unemployment check.

In my near 26 years, I was blessed to experience an individual with such humbleness, positivity, fulfilling passion, charisma, unmistakably incredible talent, & fabulousness which was added as key ingreedients in the music he astonished us with(notoriously r&b & eventually pop)& overall entertainment he astonished us with as well. The fact his life is over, doesn’t mean the legacy’s over. That legacy, will always & forever be a rollercoaster i’ll always ride as long as I gloriously play his music.

God rest your soul, Mr. Jackson-your spirit & music will always forever be golden & enchanted.

Lighters up everyone.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson. You were a legend, you and your music influenced generations of children and will for generations to come I’m sure!! This must be what it was like to lose Elvis. Another legend gone before his time!! You and your music influenced popular culture SO MUCH!! Its sad to see people go before their time, but you will be remembered!!

Its sad that some people on here don’t have any decency or respect, that they need to speak ill of the dead. Come on people, a man has just died. Show a little compassion for him and his family. How would you feel if someone spoke that way of someone in your family? And if you don’t like him, why bother reading a blog about him? Hmmm? Are you just trying to bring down everyone who did like him and who he influenced through his music? Sure, he had his flaws I’m sure, but who are we to judge? He was a human being and to disrespect him in this way right after his death is unconscionable. Those of you who bad mouth him obviously can’t recognize the genius of his music and the impact it had. I could ONLY DREAM of being that talented!! I bet you guys bad mouthing him secretly wished you had a quarter the talent he did.

Don’t be so quick to judge someone you only learned about through the media. You never get the full story through the media, so stop judging him. He was an amazing performer, shoved into the limelight at an early age. He pretty much grew up in front of the camera, so I’m sure some of his flaws were a result of that. I can’t imagine how stressful that would be, going through puberty and such for the whole world to see. The teenage years are stressful enough without that added stress. So who are we to judge him? If you want to lay blame, then maybe in some way, we are all to blame.

I wish the media and paparazzi allowed the stars more privacy. Just because they are well known doesn’t mean their private lives should be an open book. Their private lives should be exactly that, private. Take a look at what happened with Princess Di. She wanted some privacy, to get away from the paparazzi and hence was taken from us too early. Another great person taken too soon. So I hope the Jackson family is allowed to mourn Michael without all the fanfare. Allow them to mourn him in private, not for the whole world to see. To the Jackson family I send you my condolences and blessings. Michael, may you rest in peace and no longer be a tortured soul.

Michael Jackson has left the world. But his music, dance, songs, and a wonderful soulful personality will never be forgotten. He will continue to live in our hearts and I know I lot of celebrities and ordinary people are devasted and wept about his death. For those who don’t know, the king is Elvis. For those that don’t realize, learn how to spell. It is very sad that Farrah died such a terrible death. Yes, Michael Jackson was great as far as a musical entertainer. But anyone who does not think he was a child molester is sadly mistaken. I’m sure they think OJ was innocent too. As far as his family, I’m sure they have better things to do than read any of this! I am a religious person and forgiveness or not, I don’t believe Michael will meet his maker. He will really be hot where he’s going! I can’t believe so many people care so much for a man who could have really cared less about them. Michael was great when he was still black….but he was never happy with the way God made him. He altered as much as he could. If that wasn’t enough he was strung out on drugs. So what if they were prescribed to him legally. Only because he had enough money to get anything he wanted and make anything he did go away….I really feel sorry for you people who seem to worship him….he is not a God!!! Far from it.

Amongst being an innovator, and the number one top selling artist of all time, most of all Michael Joseph Jackson was a person. As the media analyzes various topics of his life that don’t need to be, we forget how he really affected our lives. I love his dance moves and his incredible voice but most of all I love how he made me feel about myself. Overshadowed by the mass media, Michael’s love of the world and his untouched dedication to his fans far surpass any ignorance that may be displayed. Never meeting a man I wished I had, he truly knew that all of you were his family. I’ve seen love, kindness, and an innocence shine in people before but never like Michael did when he smiled. Like many, if I could have had the chance to be closer to him I know I wouldn’t have bombarded him with requests of autographs and pictures. I would have loved to just listen to him and truly be a good friend. I am writing this from the bottom of my heart, witch is truly broken and can be healed with the support of the family that we have formed. Please help me carry his name on by doing the little things in life you don’t normally see or do. More than being one of the most successful people in life, I truly believe that Michael Jackson just wants us to “Take a look at yourself and make that change”.

Your family will always be here for you, and never forget what you have accomplished!

Michael Joseph Jackson

Who cares? He was a sick freak. Everyone is so obsessed with his death like it really effects them. So he made one good pop album 20 years ago…and we all know that pop artists don’t have much real talent anyways. He only wrote 4 songs on Thriller and he didn’t even write the title track. So basically, he was a good singer 20 years ago and ever since has been getting worse and more disgusting every day. Get over it. Live your own lives and don’t try to bring yourself close to some celebrity who has done nothing for you.

BurroughsFan | 6/27/2009, 2:14 pm EST

I was never a Michael Jackson fan, but I’ve been interested in the responses to his death, particularly from the more fanatical of his fans. The irony that strikes me is that Jackson’s fans’ fascination with him is what fueled the media’s focus on all the details of his life. Magazines and TV shows report on what their readers and viewers want to see. The end result is that Jackson lived in a fishbowl, and I feel sorry for him because I can’t imagine that that was a very happy life. His fans consumed his music and performances and, ultimately, consumed him. Without intending to do so, through their devotion, they made his life–and his death–into a media spectacle.

Hey FK | 6/27/2009, 2:29 pm EST

I would just like to remind all those who criticize Michael Jackson and his life that he was one of the first artists to make significant contributions to social causes as well as a plentitude of financial contributions to various charities and he did this 20 years ago before it became trendy or a public relations requirement. He did it out of the unending generosity of his heart. I respectfully wish that he truly rests in peace away from the clutches of the evil media.

Onetwothree | 6/28/2009, 11:24 am EST

The death of Michael Jackson has been blown out of all proportion. For someone who abused drugs for as long as he did we should be amazed that he lived so long. He never gave a damn about anyone else so all those who are professing their undying love for him, get a life, get over it and try to be a better person than he was. Spare a thought for those he molested! There is so much that is worthwhile out there, while his music will live on, let’s not forget the sort of person he was – he made some really dodgy choices with his life. Only God will judge him, but he was truly an example of how not to live your life

Onetwothree | 6/28/2009, 11:26 am EST

He was a true example of how not to live your life!

BurroughsFan | 6/28/2009, 12:20 pm EST

Regarding Priya’s claim that “he was one of the first artists to make significant contributions to social causes…,” my response would be that you consider him “one of the first” because you simply don’t know what went before. Do a search for Marlon Brando in the 1963 March on Washington. Read about George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh. That’s my frustration with Jackson’s fans: he has to be “the first,” “the greatest,” and “a genius.” He was an excellent entertainer, but musical genius? No. Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix–these are musical geniuses. MJ was not in their league. On a different topic, the alleged molestations, I’d say whatever happened, can one really imagine that the parents that were lending out their kids didn’t hope to get something out of it, one way or another?

Priya | 6/28/2009, 2:31 pm EST

To BurroughsFan:

I would like to clarify some points about my message which you clearly missed. I never insinuated that MJ was the one and only to ever do humanitarian work for a good cause I said “ONE OF the first” which he was and certainly cannot be compared to the pathetic “stars” today who do so for a photo op. Mj truly was a STAR who shone brightly through his multi-talents. I have yet to find one artist today who can match his style, grace and ability. The world has had over 3 decades to produce something even comparable to MJ and thus far, I’m still waiting for him/her to come along. On the point of me now knowing what came before…you’re completely right. I don’t know and frankly I don’t care. MJ was the man who was innovative and special in MY generation. Your argument is severely faulty. Many people think Tupac was a musical genius (I happen to not be one of them but that’s irrelevant) I’m sure you agree it would be very idiotic to try to compare Tupac to MJ, they are from different generations and music in MJ’s time was very different from music in Tupac’s time. The same can be said for you stupid comparisons about MJ’s music to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis that was a different time. Find me a comparable artist in the time of MJ who had even a fraction of his talent and then I might bother to consider your stupid arguments. In regards to the “allegations” and if you don’t know what the word means I suggest you look it up. They were never proven and people should do their own research to find out about how the other of the second accuser was a crack-whore who pulled welfare scams and told MJ when he offered to fund her son’s college education that “there was no point” since he wouldm’t live for more than 10 years thus she asked for the assistance in cash to spend on herself. Stupid skank.

BurroughsFan | 6/28/2009, 9:05 pm EST

Priya:

I do know what the word ‘allegations’ means. You don’t usually get a doctorate in English from a major university without knowing such things. I used the word allegations because, unlike a lot of people, I don’t pretend to know what happened, but I can clearly see that the parents stood to profit from having everyone think he was guilty. You don’t seem to be able to tell that I’m on your side on that issue. As to the assertion that you can’t compare artists from different generations, that is, to use your own word, idiotic. Musicians themselves (and I am a musician, too) do that all the time. But, again, to quote you, you don’t know and you don’t care, one of the most honest articulations of American anti-intellectualism I’ve seen in a while. I tend to think informed opinions count more, but I supposed that’s old-fashioned…

Anybody seen Michael’s dad Joe Jackson at the BET Awards? What a POS he is! What kind of father attends an awards ceremony to plug his business ventures while his dead son isn’t even buried yet! When the reporter asks him how he and his family are dealing with the grief his answer is “Great, we’re doing just great”. You lost a child a mere three days ago and you’re doing “great”? Not to mention his exact sentiment was “We just lost the greatest superstar in the world”. He’s more concerned about losing his meal ticket than losing his son. Wow. No wonder Michael turned out to be such a damaged person. I mean who wouldn’t when you have a parent who treats you as nothing more than a cash cow instead of a human being? Not even Michael’s death can make his father show any kind of remorse, sympathy or sadness. What a shame.

To Old Rock Lady

How can you sit in judgement of MJ? Did you know him personally? Were you present during the alleged molestations? I for one don’t pretend to know what happened, unlike a lot of people. Clearly, the parents of the kids stood to gain by having everyone think he was guilty.

You shouldn’t be so quick to judge someone you only heard about through the media. He lived in a fishbowl and I’m sure that was not a happy existence. Besides, the media skews stuff, but you obviously believe everything you hear in the media. I feel sorry for you.

Do I worship him? Yes, I think he was one of the greatest singers and performers of my generation, if not the greatest. I feel like part of my childhood is gone now. In my opinion, the musicians and performers of today aren’t even in the same league as MJ. He was quite talented, and his music touched and inspired so many. His death is truly sad, but legends never really die.

And yes, it is terrible that Farrah died such a horrible death, but if you want to talk about that, you should be posting on another blog. This one is to remember Michael Jackson. Since you obviously weren’t a fan of his, it boggles my mind that you even bothered to read this blog about him. This is for his fans, so shut your pie hole and go away. Speaking ill of the dead on the internet is one of the most cowardly things you can do, not to mention bad karma. You will get your just desserts all in good time. Besides, how would you like it if it was your family? Would you like it if people talked that way about your loved one? Have some compassion, a man just died.

As for comparing Elvis and MJ, that’s like comparing apples to oranges. They are from different eras, and are different genres of music. I was too young when Elvis died, so I don’t pretend to be an expert on Elvis. I do have some of his music and seen old footage of his performances, and I will agree, he was great too. Elvis was the King of Rock n’ Roll, and I don’t think anyone here is disputing that. Michael Jackson on the other hand, was the King of Pop. Get your facts straight.

One, learn how to spell. Its affects, not effects. Now, as I said to Old Rock Lady, speaking ill of the dead is cowardly, not to mention bad karma. Stop judging him based on what you know from the media, you never get truly unbiased, objective information. Obviously, you believe everything you hear in the media, which is sad.

MJ may not have been much to you, but in my opinion, he was a gifted performer and singer, and inspired many, including myself. So yes, his death affected those he inspired in some way.

Even if Michael Jackson didn’t write all the songs on Thriller, you can’t dispute that it is the greatest selling album of all time. And you talk about the fact that he only wrote 4 songs on Thriller as if it doesn’t happen every day. How many artists rewrite old songs or use material written by someone else on their albums? Granted, MJ didn’t write as many of the songs on Thriller, but if you take a look at later albums, such as Bad, he wrote all but two of the songs, if I remember correctly.

And if you didn’t like him, why bother to read a blog about him? Obviously, his death affected you enough to read this blog.

Do you know for certain that Michael Jackson was a drug addict and child molester? Were you there? Did you know him personally? You say “only God will judge him,” but you are quick to judge someone you never knew. It ticks me off how quick people are to judge people they only know through the media. As I’ve said again and again, you never get a truly objective and unbiased report in the media. You believe everything you read obviously, so if the media reported that aliens had landed, I’m sure you believe that too. And who on this earth hasn’t made some bad choices at some point in their lives? If you didn’t care about his death, why bother reading posts on this site?

Deeply Depressed | 7/2/2009, 12:56 pm EST

I always loved Michael Jackson’s famous, complicated, and very talented dance moves and he has such melodius and beautiful voice for singing. I loved his sons, my favourites were Black and White, and do you remember the time. I liked the part where he turned into gold powder by spinning around. I do not have any of his CDs, unfortunatley, nor did I listen to his songs very much. When i heard he died, I was really shocked and really depressed. I never got to see Michael Jackson in real life, only on TV. I admire the fact he loves children a lot. Meeting someone like Michael Jackson is very rare and only the lucky have this once in a life time oppurtunity. Although I never really listned to his music very much I was deeply devasted and depressed. I can not beleive that I felt this way for someone I hardly knew, I only knew the basic facts about him. I still act express why I am so sad. I guess Michael Jackson really touched everybody’s heart in this world!

Fatima | 7/2/2009, 4:44 pm EST

if you really look back, why hate on him? all his songs had some kind of moral message…unlike some things out there today (some claim to be “talent”)…
i agree with those words someone said earlier- people obviously CARE if they are giving it the time to read these type of blogs

I didn’t like what he did to children but I did && still do love his music! I now listen to Thriller, Beat It!, && Billie Jean alot! I was shocked when my friend called && said that Michael Jackson had died! It’s sad when people die! Just because he did what he did to kids doesnt mean his music wasn’t great! And it also doesnt mean everybody should judge his music && career! He was an amazing artist! R.I.P!

he was a great man…….

edwardmorales2 | 7/6/2009, 10:48 am EST

Wherever his spirit is right now I hope he’s found peace, and even though he’s gone (and when all of us are long gone) his music is going to live on for all time. It is bittersweet that it took his death to put the focus back on his music, even though the rest of that attention is focused on the bullshit that surrounded him his entire life – when all is said and done may it finally be put to rest. I know this is so cliche, but here it goes – R.I.P. THE KING OF POP

Michael Jackson is musically the “King of Rock Music”(1982-present), because he is the greatest rock star of all time. Elvis Presley was the “King of rock and roll” in the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. Elvis was the first king of pop in the 1950’s. Remember that “pop” is an abbreviation of “popular”.
“King of pop” means king of popular charts, popular music or popular culture.

Elvis is musically the “King of rock and roll”(1950′S-1970′S), and Michael is musically the “King of Rock Music”(1982-present)

Elvis just sang rock and roll. Rock star Michael Jackson experimented with several rock genres such as: soul(”Baby be Mine”), funk-disco(”Billie Jean” or “Thriller”), funk-dance(”Bad” or “Smooth Criminal”), funk-hip hop(”Jam” or “Scream”) and hard rock/heavy metal(”Beat It”, “Black or White”, “Give in to Me”).
Then Michael is musically the “King of Rock Music” FOREVER!!!

LOVI | 8/19/2009, 2:36 pm EST

She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don’t mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one, who will dance on the floor in the round

She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don’t go around breaking young girls’ hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do ’cause the lie becomes the truth

Billie Jean is not my lover
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

For forty days and for forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she’s in demand
Her schemes and plans
‘Cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
(Do think twice)

She told my baby we’d danced till three, then she looked at me
Then showed a photo my baby cried his eyes were like mine (oh, no!)
‘Cause we danced on the floor in the round, baby

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don’t go around breaking young girls’ hearts
She came and stood right by me
Then the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her room

Billie Jean is not my lover
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son

Billie Jean is not my lover
She’s just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
