My Morning Jacket’s Jim James is a busy man lately: In addition to his Monsters of Folk indie supergroup, the MMJ frontman, performing under the mysterious alias Yim Yames, will release an EP of George Harrison covers titled Tribute To on August 4th. Recorded just days after Harrison’s death in 2001, the raw collection groups four songs off Harrison’s legendary solo album All Things Must Pass with a pair of Harrison’s most beloved Beatles songs. James called Harrison’s music “a prime example of the healing power of music,” a point that Tribute To proves. The EP’s track list is after the jump:

Tribute To:

1. “Long Long Long”
2. “Behind That Locked Door”
3. “Love You To”
4. “My Sweet Lord”
5. “Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)”
6. “All Things Must Pass”

Can’t wait for this. James’ work with MMJ is incredible, and I can’t wait to see what he does with Harrison’s tunes.

Beck is covering classic albums as well. He is redoing the Velvet Underground and Nico. This is a great development.

I’m getting chills just THINKING about James performing “All Things Must Pass”.

Jim James is a genious. I just hope this doesn’t distract him from MMJ’s next project.

Actually, James’ web site says it will be released 7/7, not in August.

His voice will compliment those songs PERFECTLY.

I really dig that Long Long Long song. Cool Beatles slow jam.

I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS ONE.

Amazing!

The Rosewood Thieves just released a covers EP of Rock and Roll of Famer Solomon Burke songs called ‘Heartaches By The Pound’. Burke wrote the liner notes for the release! Check it.

We had heard about this, and Jim, your talent will make George’s songs soar. I know he would be flattered.

Peace always to you and yours,

David
