Def Leppard, Poison, Cheap Trick Deliver Big Riffs at Tour Kick-Off

It was more than 20 years ago that hair metal taught the kids to tease-and-spray, and since then high-heeled boys and their sticky metallic hooks have become fodder for love-lorn reality shows and slick Broadway musicals. And the answers to some of the pressing questions of our day — Is the Leppard still Def? Is Poison still nothin’ but a good time? Is the Trick still Cheap? — will be answered at an amphitheater near you when the 40-date Def Leppard/Poison/Cheap Trick tour, which opened last night at near-sold out Susquehana Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey, rolls into a town near you. The answers are, in order: Yes, yes, and depends if you sit out on the lawn or pony up top-dollar for ringside seating.

(Check out photos from the triple bill’s opening night here.)

First up was Cheap Trick, who have never really left the road since they went live at Budokan, and their bracing blend of Beatlesque hooks and high voltage riffs still rocks righteously. Cheap Trick rocked the early arrivals with a short, sharp set that mixed classics like “I Want You To Want Me” and “Dream Police” with super-fresh new material like “These Days” and “Sick Man Of Europe” from their just-released album, The Latest. Robin Zander, smartly dressed in a black-tie-and-vest with his long blonde locks tied back in a ninja pony tail, hit all the sky-high notes, and guitarist Rick Nielsen, rocking a burgundy tux and his patented big-billed ball cap, showered the crowd with guitar picks and fat-bottomed riffs.

Next up was Poison who rocked their hair extensions off, as Bret Michaels and Co. put on a flame-throwing, smoke-blowing, drumstick-twirling set that incorporated all the hits: “Unskinny Bop,” “I Want Action” and “Nothin’ But A Good Time.” Everyone in the band seemed super-psyched to be back in the saddle again, especially Michaels, who said, in deference to his tour partners, that he was looking forward to getting “completely hammered and enjoying some great music from the side of the stage.” He went on to explain how “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” was written in the men’s room of a Dallas laundromat. “That’s why I had to do three seasons of Rock Of Love — my best love song was written in the bathroom!”

Topping off the night was a stormy, stomping set by headliners Def Leppard who trolled through their ’80s hits — a picture-perfect “Photograph,” a semi-acoustic “Bringin’ On The Heartache” and a slamming, set-closing “Rock Of Ages”  — like the working class punters they once were before Pyromania went mega-platinum. The one real surprise was a crunchy cover of David Essex’s “Rock On.” But the highlight of the Lep’s set was undoubtedly the stripper-anthem “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, which the band laid down with silhouetted images of gyrating pole-workers projected on the big screen behind them. A couple of jokesters, with a taste for the literal, ran through the crowd clutching boxes of granulated sugar, baptizing themselves and anyone nearby with the sweet, sticky stuff. Every rose has its thorn, indeed.

Let’s see – drop Poison from the ticket altogether and extend Cheap Trick and Def Leppards set. Then, toss out the newer, crap Def Lep songs and throw in some gems from High N Dry and maybe a tune or 2 from On Through The Night and then you’ve got my interest.

Jeff The Smart One | 6/24/2009, 3:25 pm EST

Cheap Trick has to open for Poison?!? WTF

And can Def Leppard get the word “rock” in to some more songs please.

I love the “near-sold out” line.

wily willie | 6/24/2009, 3:39 pm EST

Cheap Trick is the most underrated band in the history of recorded music.

Maria | 6/24/2009, 4:18 pm EST

Bret Michaels rocked! He is soooo HOT! The show was great all the way around but I was mainlt there to see Bret & Poison.

nursepenny | 6/24/2009, 4:44 pm EST

I can not wait to see all 3 bands in Irvine Ca. in Aug, but we all know who will ” ROCK THE SHOW “, the best and that is the one and only ” BRET MICHAELS AND POISON “.
KEEP ON ROCKIN and YES we will have
“NOTHIN’ BUT A GOOD TIME “

Shelly | 6/24/2009, 4:47 pm EST

LOLOLOLOLOLO!!!! Bret is the talent on this tour!! You people are insane!!!

Di | 6/24/2009, 4:48 pm EST

I’m so sorry that Jeff the “DUMB” one and “Duh” UH can’t go see a show so they just slam the show and make stupid comments.
On a lighter note….I’m excited and can’t wait to have “Nothing but a Good Time” when the show is in my area of the country.

Shelly | 6/24/2009, 4:49 pm EST

If anyone has ever seen Bret perform they know he is THE SHOW PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! ask any of his fans!!! Say what you will but have you done what he has???? ask yourself that!!

h | 6/24/2009, 5:16 pm EST

i don’t recall poison playing something to believe in. i think that’s a mistake.

Karie | 6/24/2009, 6:27 pm EST

I didn’t see the show but I have seen Bret twice with the B*M*B and they rock. I do have concert dvd’s of Poison and Dep Leopard and a rare Promo cd of Cheap Trick they put on an awesome show and the cd has every hit of Cheap Trick. So I am sure the one last night was great. The negative comments are probably from people that did not grow up with this music and in that case I would say if you have nothing good to say then don’t say anything at all and go about your own business and music!!

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 6:33 pm EST

Bull-Stuff!Leave Poison in, Cheap Trick is, well, Cheap Trick and that’s fine with me. Def Leppard new stuff is great, and it’s ashame it doesn’t get the play it should but it’s a different world. To be honest most of Leppard’s stuff since Adrenalize has been great, although X was a little to lite, it was still good. The whole bill is great and I’m looking forward to seeing them at Nissan Pavilion in July.

BushCrimeFamily | 6/24/2009, 6:47 pm EST

Leppard and Poison should be opening for Cheap Trick.

ken vail | 6/24/2009, 7:52 pm EST

i have seen cheap trick 10 times over the years…it’s absurd they are 3rd on the bill, and only play 9 songs? their new cd is really great btw.

meeee | 6/24/2009, 7:53 pm EST

I agree with “Uh”…drop Poison and extend Cheap Trick’s set. Poison? “Talk dirty to me” is a blatant ripoff of Trick’s “She’s Tight”. And CT never sunk to “Behind the Music”, and never stopped touring and recording new music. All you reality show junkies need to pry your eyes away from the horror that is “rock of love” and appreciate real talent.

nick g | 6/24/2009, 9:16 pm EST

WOW no foolin’? why rock on over foolin someone please tell me?

Flowerchild | 6/24/2009, 9:26 pm EST

I agree that the others should be opening for Cheap Trick…that said, Cheap Trick is so cool that this doesn’t appear to be an issue for them. They love to play, they know their importance in R & R history, they are not egomaniacs, and two out of the four band members still live in their hometown of Rockford, Illinois. You gotta love people who are recognized as being influential to many important bands, but still maintain their Midwestern humbleness while being absolutely genius. I can’t help but love ‘em!

Rinestone | 6/24/2009, 9:26 pm EST

Can’t wait to see the show in August

foomanchu | 6/24/2009, 9:54 pm EST

Trade Poison for Whitesnake, then let Poison get on a tour somewhere with Warrant and Trixter.

OTTO | 6/24/2009, 11:48 pm EST

This is a great bill. If you watch the first band and leave. Poison? Are you kidding? They were bad when they were “cool.” And Def Leppard? Well, at least they have a few catchy tunes. But what possessed Cheap Trick to hang out with these losers? I’ve seen them several times and they are truly great — not great in the hip/cool great — great in the we know how to put a few catchy as hell chords together and rock great. So if you go, go early and leave. You’ll have your whole night ahead of you.

OTTO | 6/25/2009, 12:03 am EST

OK…So, I’m a little ticked about Cheap Trick having to open for these guys. Here’s an idea…If Cheap Trick has to open for anyone, what about a young band with a similar bent for catchy, cool stuff…? I’m thinking Franz Ferdinand? Or maybe even some band like All-American Rejects? I have no problem with Def Leppard and Poison touring together. In fact, I wish they would take Motley Cru, Cinderella and the other “bands” like that with them…

Peace. | 6/25/2009, 12:40 am EST

Cheap Trick is good but overrated by a lot of people on here.

Poison is hilarious.

Def Leppard is a great time.

def lep | 6/25/2009, 12:59 am EST

Deflep best team in the game cheap poison lucky they were on bill

Michele from Pa | 6/25/2009, 1:15 am EST

I am going to see Bret and Poison only they are the show, the others need them for the people to come out and buy their tickets, Remember Deph Leopard had to lip sinc on Dancing w/ The Stars last season, hello who is a joke!!!!!

1 of | 6/25/2009, 1:21 am EST

Lotta respect 4 trick. Only trick poison had best lipstick an eyeliner in music. Dflp never have been an image band they have a libary of music sum awesome sum not a lot like life 80san90snot many bands left there’s a reason there around

indian | 6/25/2009, 2:53 am EST

leppards set looks damn good! hurry up august!

sean | 6/25/2009, 5:29 am EST

Man if there ever was a case of “one of these things is not like the other”! I think they screwed up cause Poison should have been on the triple bill with Bon Jovi and Trixter.

Cheap Trick are gods.

Def Leppard are great songwriters when they wanna be.

defskillpet | 6/25/2009, 8:04 am EST

I agree drop Poison from the tour. I’ve seen them twice and it’s always the same boring thing. Cheap Trick never seen, but do like “The Flame”. Leppard will always put on a great show, and it’s always different. Let’s face it they did Crossroads with Taylor Swift and she can’t sing. It would be cool if Def Lep would play a longer set. But Can’t wait until Aug 15 in Hot Lanta. I’ll be sure to arrive late so i won’t have to endure the Poison crap!!!

Elizabeth | 6/25/2009, 8:27 am EST

This is the concert of the summer 09! If you have nothing nice to say then you need to shut the
f*@* up! These are all great bands so stop hating and get a life.
P.S.
I will see them tonight in Cleveland Ohio! xoxoxo Bret!

MsCutypie69 | 6/25/2009, 10:14 am EST

Each one of these bands has their own unique style. However, POISON will be the “STARS” of the show. Cant wait to see them.

KCV | 6/25/2009, 10:40 am EST

CHEAP TRICK has been a band since 1974, have put out 16 studio lp’s, a huge influence on many bands…..poison and def leppard have some catchy songs, but cheap trick is a band that are literally living legends…i’ve seen them 10 times and they are great entertainers, no one is quite like Rick Nielsen, his guitars are a show in itself!

kilicopter | 6/25/2009, 10:43 am EST

The Cheap Trick set is too short, way too short. Drop Poison’s ass from the tour. Better yet, Bret Michaels may lose his mind from the syphilis he has received from one or more of those SKANKS on that show of his.

kilicopter | 6/25/2009, 10:44 am EST

Uh, i totally agree with you.

Anonymous | 6/25/2009, 11:44 am EST

How about Cheap Trick adds a few more songs and Poison replaces the “Guitar solo” and “drum solo” with actual songs. They gotta streamline this shit! I’d rather no solo and no extra songs than just 2 useless solos!

Cheryl | 6/25/2009, 12:18 pm EST

All the haters have to find a life. This is gonna be a good show, I got my tickets for July 1st and have seen Poison many times they do give everyone there moneys worth. And I assure you I will have “Nothing But A Good Time”…

K | 6/25/2009, 12:51 pm EST

As my local newspaper said: “In a Perfect world Cheap Trick would be the headliner”!!All the bands are great live and all have hits but Cheap Trick never was labeled or was caught up in a ’scene’ so they based this lineup purely by record sales I guess. I’d love to hear ‘Tonight It’s You’ from CT and ‘Me & My Wine’ from DL.

BallsDeep | 6/25/2009, 2:26 pm EST

Poison is and always has been a joke.
Drop their asses and add Cinderella, one of the most underrrated bands of the 80’s.

always a Leppard fan | 6/25/2009, 3:09 pm EST

Went to Sheffield in 2006 to see
Def Leppard in their home town. Cheap Trick was on the bill. Have to
say they sucked although I do like their music. Have seem Leppard many times since and they rock, always put on a great show. Would like to see them do a full set. Haven’t seen Poison before so no comment on them.

jackie | 6/25/2009, 3:25 pm EST

All you guys ragging on Poison are just jeleous of how much action they get. Cant wait til the Darien Lake show. Looking forward to having “Nothing But A Good Time” as always!!

My word | 6/25/2009, 3:33 pm EST

Poison is such a joke. CC and Bret are the worst duo in rock history. Casino circuit clowns.

Really.....Poison? | 6/25/2009, 3:36 pm EST

What the fuck would possess Robyn Zander and the boys of Def Leppard to go on tour with these clowns. POISON even sucked when they were cool and all there colleagues thought so to.

Sambora | 6/25/2009, 7:24 pm EST

Leppard Rocks, Poison’s a show pony!! Just ask all the mates from LA. Even they dont like ‘em. CT keep rocking, you guys just cant do wrong. Just show them whos the flame!!

Music Fan | 6/25/2009, 11:12 pm EST

Hopefully Poison acknowledges the fact that without Cheap Trick’s “She’s Tight” there never would have been “Talk Dirty to Me”. Note for note rip off. Poison always was a chick band…music fans know where the quality is on this tour.

bobby | 6/25/2009, 11:27 pm EST

why is poison even allowed on the same stage as DefLep and Cheap Trick?? what a f-king joke!

lucky | 6/26/2009, 12:24 am EST

please drop Poison from the line-up before they get to SLC, or have them go first and I will be sure to be late for the concert. Love CT music, never have seen them in concert. I agree that DL needs to play all the songs from Pyromania and Hysteria era. I like C,mon C,mon alot. Joe still looks pretty good for almost 50.

Imp | 6/26/2009, 12:52 am EST

“Drop Poison but kave Def Lep play all the cheese songs they made after they sold out” Can you say double standard?

sean | 6/26/2009, 2:34 am EST

Imp – actually the set list is pretty decent. Only one new song: “Nine Lives”, two corny/cheesy songs: “Let’s Get Rocked” and “Two Steps Behind”, and one cover: “Rock On”. All 12 remaining songs are from their classic period. I wouldn’t exactly call that “playing all the cheese songs”.

MikeInPhilly | 6/26/2009, 4:45 am EST

DEF-inately need to throw in some older stuff to their shows and SUPPORT the newer releases instead of playing the “hits” we hear on the radio and in concert over and over and over again. Love ya to death Leps but damn it’s the same old show, you’re still great! but oh how I’d love to get my “rocks off” on some “wasted” and “c’mon c’mon” when “only the good die young” you “gotta let it go” and just kick out the new jams too like “GO” omg that song F’IN rocks dudes!! Support your stuff… we will still come and rock steady!! AND you know we’d be “still shakin’” cause we’re ready for the takin’.. so mix the tunes.. invite me.. and get ready for the big $

Imp | 6/26/2009, 9:10 am EST

Just my opinion, but Hysteria was syrup covered pop garbage.”Let It Go” on the set list would be more welcome. Unfortunately, I don’t think Elliot can belt that one out anymore. He voice was just about shot at the VH-1 Rock honors a couple of years ago.

saw the show. | 6/26/2009, 9:58 am EST

love these people that don’t see the show then blast the bands. Cheap Trick was pretty good, personally I’m not a big fan but I enjoyed their set. Poison was good too. And btw, for you people that complain about the “solos”, those are done so other band members get a breather off stage. All bands do that. Def Leppard definatly was the highlight of the show though, and the crowd responded like it too. I do wish they would play more of their newer stuff though too.

Jack Desmondi | 6/26/2009, 12:32 pm EST

100% totally agree drop friggin, lame-ass, rip-off Poison. CT’s set was ridiculously short and Def Leppard’s was depressingly short of recent album cuts.

ROCKET QUEEN | 6/26/2009, 3:00 pm EST

I saw the show in Camden WED night…I thought It was freakin Awsome ! I’m a huge 80’s fan and was proud of all 3 bands….they still rocked it, made me download some tunes the next day and i’n still jammin out ! And yes I ponied up 350 for 4th row !

Falco Kornblatt | 6/26/2009, 3:52 pm EST

It’s a damned shame that I have to consider giving Poison (are you kidding me?) and Def Leppard my money just so I can see the undeniably superior Cheap Trick. I hope the lineup is rotating each night, because making Cheap Trick open for the rest of those goofballs is just plain wrong.

Dirty Duck | 6/26/2009, 5:35 pm EST

Seeing the show july 8th on long island. REALLY looking foward to seeing Cheap Trick & Def Leppard.
Poison unfortunatly has put on the same show for the past 8 years. Same set…same songs…same banter from brett. Only now we get to hear about the “Rock of love” garbage (god I fucking hate reality tv). Change your set around for christ’s sakes! Last year me and my buddies knew EVERY song they were gonna do before they started playing. Gimmie a break already! Jeez…it’s like groundhog day without the sinny and cher song.

Sherry | 6/26/2009, 6:07 pm EST

Saw them in Cleveland last night….Cheap Trick only sang five songs….Poison forgot to do I want action but still rocked, and Def Leppard also rocked. The fans seemed to be more vocal during thier older stuff one new song they sang didn’t get a good reaction from the crowd. Awesome show…Everyone should see this concert it is by far the best on I have ever seen minus Cheap Trick.

Sherry | 6/26/2009, 6:14 pm EST

I never saw CT before, and after last nights performance…Thank God Poison was there to pick up their 5-song set…I sat next to a couple who shelled out 150.00 to see Cheap Trick and were severely disappointed with only a 5-song set…They didn’t even stay for Poison and Def Leppard.

bubby | 6/26/2009, 7:32 pm EST

Hopefully, CT will keep playing “She’s Tight” throughout the tour, so the punters will see that Poison nicked that riff for “Talk Dirty to Me”. BTW, the new CT cd rocks!

Anonymous | 6/27/2009, 1:09 am EST

Its 2009. Get a life

Starsky | 6/27/2009, 5:11 am EST

Poison was horrible back in the 80’s, we can pretend anything better from them now……Thanks to VH1 “Behind`the Music” a few years ago and Brett Michaels reality super crap now they like us to believe that Poison is a great band………yeah, sure….and Bush was a great president and Transformers 2 a great movie……..

skankman | 6/27/2009, 9:03 am EST

where was ct last night at Darien? Did they quit tour?

Andy Summers | 6/27/2009, 10:11 am EST

What Falco said.

Michelle | 6/27/2009, 2:57 pm EST

I saw the show in Camden, and I thought Def Leppard sucked. Their stage presence was awful, the set list wasn’t good at all, and all the horrible digital imaging crap was just lame.

Poison was good and actually seemed to want to be there. One thing about the set list, they never played ‘Something to believe in’, at least not in Camden.

Atlanta fan | 6/27/2009, 3:07 pm EST

First..The order of opening and closing is based on current marketability, not history or who’s the best act. Musically, trick and Lep win hands down, but if 15k people show, 9k for lep, 4k for poison, and 2k for cheap trick, then that’s what the promoter goes with. Its business. For those who’ve never seen Lep, you will be amazed. Visually and sound quality are top notch, just wish they would stop with the ballads LIVE. Poison are an entertaining group, with some catchy songs, and cheap Trick are great songwriters, but lets be honest, who sells the tix? Before you hate on another band for being closers or openers, etc, realize it really has nothing to do with them talent wise, just who people demand to see. I would love for lep to do the in the round thing again, won’t ever happen cause its not 87-88 or 92-23 anymore, and they are not popular enough to sell that package alone right now. I mean Journey musically gave lep all they wanted and more in 06 on the dual package musically, but no presence or atmosphere, hell their vid screen was a damn Windows Media background, so lep closed the shows. Simple as that.

Linky | 6/27/2009, 10:13 pm EST

Cheap Trick obviously must be comfortable with this role because they are clearly the superior and undoubtedly most influential band of the three on this bill. Can you imagine a band today saying it was influenced by Poison or even DL? Cheap Trick is as steady today as they were 35 years ago. Maybe they are not into it, but before they hang it up they need to headline a farewell tour and take the stage for 90 to 110 minutes, and let Poison and DL take note.

David Gee | 6/28/2009, 12:55 am EST

Has anyone noticed yet that just about EVERYBODY is dumping on Poison? And yet the promoters thought it would be a great idea to include them on the bill. Of course, the very few who are posting in defense of them are chicks that have shitty taste in music (seriously – one poster asserted their musical ability with “Ur just jealous because they get more action than you do”), so I guess that’s 3K of your audience right there. I’ll show up early, take a long shit in the middle, and then rejoin late.

HAHAHA | 6/28/2009, 2:13 am EST

Poison…..HHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAA AHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHA, what garbage.

malcolmkettering | 6/28/2009, 7:15 am EST

As a 25-year CT fanatic, I would be disappointed in this set list. Their role in this triple bill is to literally dismember the other 2 bands, which they could easily do. given they are limited to a short set, why not concentrate on a mix of big hits and searing short rockers? here’s my suggestion:
hello there
just got back
dream police
she’s tight
big eyes
hot love
baby no more
i want you to want me
surrender
auf wiedersehen

closing with a roaring auf wiedersehen and as well as showing off the fraud of Talk Dirty To Me’s main riff right before Poison would be, well, poison for Poison.

David | 6/28/2009, 9:42 am EST

Did anyone see Soul Asylum open for Cheap Trick a few years ago? Soul Asylum blew them away. It was the first time ever that Cheap Trick didn’t seem incredible.

David | 6/28/2009, 11:06 am EST

Anyone see Soul Asylum open for Cheap Trick a few years ago? Soul Asylum
blew Cheap Trick away.

Anonymous | 6/28/2009, 2:19 pm EST

Slightly surprised – it’s an interesting line up. For some reason I always imagined that Def Leppard would be dick heads to Poison dudes.

Anyway not one stop in MN – what kind of bullshit is that? Lameness achieved.

lisdoran | 6/28/2009, 11:50 pm EST

I saw the show in Camden and it was so great. Would have liked moe CT songs. They were the first concert I ever went to so it great that they are still performing. Bret Michaels sounded hoarse before the 2nd song was over but still put on a great show and Def Leppard just plain kicked ass.

Marc | 6/29/2009, 8:51 am EST

Last year, CT opened for Heart and Journey, which I thought was an awesome triple bill. However, after looking at CT and DL’s set lists, I think the bands and the fans would be better off if Poison were dropped, so the set lists could be extended. Also, Poison’s style of music doesn’t fit in with the other two. I am sure there is some financial or marketing reason that these three bands have teamed up.

Johnny | 6/29/2009, 2:06 pm EST

Man, that’s an awfully short set list for the best band on the bill – Cheap Trick. Def Leppard was cool in 1983, not anymore. Cheap Trick will always be cool.

Steve-O | 6/29/2009, 2:09 pm EST

For Cheap Trick fans – they’ll be playing the Sgt.Peppers album live in the fall at the Las Vegas Hilton. That would be much more worthwhile than seeing them here play 8 or 9 tunes.

..? | 6/30/2009, 10:49 am EST

couldnt agree more, drop poison and get cinderella!

Chris | 6/30/2009, 4:12 pm EST

Soul Asylum blows everyone off the stage. Wish they were out there more, and wish they would get there due!

Fan of All Music | 6/30/2009, 10:36 pm EST

Again everyone is riffing on Poison, for those of you that don’t know, Poison have been headlining there own summer tour for the past five years and selling out, how come with Leppard and Trick they aren’t even coming close, Leppard does sound great, they should they play along to a pre recorded live track that was produced by mutt lang, cheap trick nobody cared then and nobody cares now, there both riding the coat tails of Poison

linus | 7/2/2009, 12:02 pm EST

went to pnc arts center weds. nite.parking sucks. got there 7:10 cheap trick had played 2 songs already.they should be given more time to play and cut down on vince ’s gab. forth time i saw def and it was still a great show, but the arts center shows always end @11 :00 pm.

ldystrge | 7/2/2009, 12:06 pm EST

I agree NO Foolin? I also understand, this is a Pyromania, and Adrenalized leg of the tour, they have been playing Foolin since 06, it has been replaced by Too Late. My question is why not Tear It Down, and where is White Lightening?? Are you serious, and Adrenalized leg of the tour without White Lightening, not just a great song but also a great tribute to Steve Clark, and where is Only The Good Die Young, C’mon C’mon, Go, anyway, can’t wait, will be a great show Lep Rules!!

Christina | 7/3/2009, 10:13 am EST

I saw the concert on June 27, at Darien Lake, near Buffalo, New York. I thought Def Leppard was Awesome!! I didn’t even care that Cheap Trick never made it. If only Def Leppard played I definately would not have been disappointed. They put on such a great show, it didn’t matter if anyone else showed. I wish they played more than one night so I could have seen it again. Def Leppard Rocks!!!! They are #1 in my book.

evilbanks | 7/7/2009, 2:59 pm EST

Sounds like the same old boring crap that Poison has been playing since their reunion tour back in 97 or 98. Hey Poison: CHANGE THE SETLIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WW – completely agree.
I am looking forward to seeing the bill but CT will be the high light of the show for me. They play because they enjoy it. IF you get a chance ever to catch them when they dig deep into their catalog for a set list and not just the best of CT… it is so very worth it.

Saw all bands before multiple times. All different, but all good. My wife and I personaly thought that the lineup was very good. This time saw them at Scranton PA. All were on A game. Def Lep was A+.

It is tough for these 70s and 80s bands to play anything but the hits as the average fans only knows the hits.

Same thing for AC/DC. Some argue that Powerage is their best album; however, hardly any songs ever got into last three tour sets.

We also just saw Styx, REO, and .38 Special (the first two who opened up for Def Lep a year or two ago). You definitely get your money when these types of bands tour together.

Poison is amazing. If you don’t like poison then dont go see the fuckin show. I’m going to the show in Chicago and the only reason I’m going is to see Poison. They get more pussy than you so you should just stop hating.

Def Leppard rocked the house in St. Louis. CT and Poison were poor compared to what def put on. For those of you that are Poison Fans, my question is when was their last hit song? Def keeps putting out new stuff and it is all good. You can not compare Poison and Def Leppard. Def is a legend. Poison was mid 80’s fad that has faded.

Cheap Trick and Def Leppard all the way

TJ | 8/3/2009, 2:25 pm EST

Going to see this show in Nashville. Can’t wait!

caroljoy | 8/7/2009, 9:34 am EST

Glad I checked this post — we are going to the concert ONLY to see Cheap Trick. All I was trying to find out was who was on first. Apparently we will be able to enjoy a very BRIEF Cheap Trick performance for our $150 tickets…..too bad. They should tour smaller venues on their own…

Just got back. This show was the best. I went for Cheap Trick and Def Leppard, but Poison was awesome as well. It was a GREAT show. All 3 groups. If you can get cheap tickets, go. You won’t be disappointed.

Went to Last Nights concert! It was the bomb!!! Cheap Trick I thought got a bad rap! They played awesome! Poison was great too! And Def Leppard was the bomb! Overall great concert!!!!

Concert was overall awesome at the Superpages! The sound guy for Def Leppard needs to go in for a checkup though. Joe’s vocals were completely drowned out for the first 8 songs. Only complaint!

It’s true, Cheap Trick are the true rock gods here. It’s sad they’re relegated to a 9-song set. Although I’ll say that “If you want my love” is a bad choice given their way-too-short set. And The Flame is nothing short of ATROCIOUS! They didn’t even write that piece of crap. Def Lep had some xlnt stuff before they went all glossy. But I can stand to sit through most of the post “Hi & Dry” stuff. Brett WISHES he was Robin Zander-who can ACTUALLY SING! Poison did rip off CT & CC’s not fit to wipe Rick Nielson’s ass! Sorry, but it’s true. Poisen should be on a bill with Warrant, Cinderella, And to the fella’ who even MENTIONED Soul Asylum in the same sentence as Cheap Trick-you got a call-you’re new hearing aids are ready….

Poison should be on a bill with Warrant, Cinderella, Skid Row, Whiteskank, & all the other Hairfarmers & not “poisoning” otherwise good bills like this one. Oh, and to the fella’ who even MENTIONED Soul Asylum in the same sentence as Cheap Trick-you got a call-you’re new hearing aids are ready….

Thundernuts | 9/24/2009, 7:58 pm EST

It’s simple people. Def Leppard has more hits, has sold more albums than Poison and Cheap Trick combined. I like all 3 bands, but seriously now. Poison is a farce. They have some catchy songs that I like, but they’re to Rock and Roll what Polly Shore is to Cinema. Cheap Trick is a great, talented band, but they can’t sell tickets on their own. Def Leppard is the headliner of these 3 bands. No question

pinkflyd7 | 10/30/2009, 10:08 am EST

Why is a 70’s band even mixed with two eighties bands? Cheap Trick should be with bands like Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Styx, and Boston. And Def Leppard pretty much went downhill after Hysteria.
