Jonas Brothers Talk About Outgrowing Teen Pop in New Rolling Stone

6/23/09, 9:03 pm EST

If the Jonas Brothers‘ first moment on the cover of Rolling Stone found them reaching the height of teen pop stardom, their latest — on stands this week — finds them pushing for an even loftier goal: musical credibility. (Click above for exclusive footage from their new RS cover shoot.)

“I think we are working to make that trade without having to give anything up,” Kevin Jonas tells Rolling Stone in our cover story. (Check out photos from their Rolling Stone cover shoot here.) “But I think it will take time, because of where we came from. I would honestly say to anybody, if you were in a band like us, you would take advantage of those platforms too. It’s easy for people to say, ‘No, I’m a real rock & roller,’ but I think you do what you’ve got to do.”

Our Jenny Eliscu spent time with the brothers in Los Angeles as they prepared to hit the road in support of their most ambitious album yet, Lines, Vines and Trying Times. The album, the tour and much of what the band does these days seems designed to help facilitate the leap from teen pop to contemporary rock. It’s a challenging feat that few have pulled off. (Check out our look at artists who managed to outgrow their pop roots.) But the brothers are working hard on what they know will be a long, slow march to credibility. Eliscu found Nick on point as the band’s creative lead, putting their touring band through their paces (his brothers have started calling him “Mr. President”), while Kevin helps to steer the Jonas business and image (he even built a foam 3-D scale model of the band’s new stage set, which now takes 180 people to assemble at each show).

“We have an operation around us that we run,” Kevin tells Rolling Stone. “It’s not run for us, or dictated to us. Everything that we do, we sign off on.”

But even with a strong operation and a lot of hard work, the band knows that teen idols rarely make the leap to “serious artist.” “Personally, I’m not in the band to say, ‘Hey, you need to respect us, take us seriously,’ because that’s kind of stupid,” Joe tells RS. “We’re doing it because we love it, and we don’t care what age group we attract. If they like our music, they like our music, and if they don’t, fine. We don’t need you like our music.”

Jenny Eliscu’s Rolling Stone cover story, “Boys to Men,” is on newsstands now, and click here for Rolling Stone’s essential Jonas Brothers coverage.

OMGOSH!
wow is pretty awesome, being twice in Rolling Stone? All they’ve reached is thanks to their fans. I’m not a JB fan but I should admit they’re really good.

Real Music Lover | 6/23/2009, 10:39 pm EST

they still suck

basser | 6/23/2009, 10:51 pm EST

How are Jonas Brothers a “band”? Aren’t they a “group” (which brother plays drums or bass? None). Wow, Rolling Stone has sunk to a new low by having these kids on the cover AGAIN. Meet the new Rolling Stone, same as the old Tiger Beat …

me | 6/23/2009, 11:00 pm EST

wow the youngest one…nick is it??? hmmmm he’s turning into quite the young man….

Robert | 6/23/2009, 11:11 pm EST

Are you fucking kidding me Rolling Stone?

You guys are seriously fucked up. No one I know takes the Jonas Brothers seriously. Only virginial teenage girls and pre-teens take them seriously. They’re in the same boat as Hannah Montana and the High School Musical

I’m definitely canceling my subscription now. This is unbelievable…what happened to the old Rolling Stone? When did you guys turn into Tiger Beat?

TheFutureMrsJonas | 6/23/2009, 11:31 pm EST

These brothers are some of the most amazing people in the world. We can see that through their music, and just how they act and what they do. Thank you, The Jonas Brothers, for everything you have done!! :)

Marisa | 6/23/2009, 11:57 pm EST

Basser, actually one of them does play drums on numerous songs in their live performances, Nick.

Make sure you know what you are speaking about before you speak. It gives you a lot more credibility. ;)

Kayla | 6/23/2009, 11:59 pm EST

basser, kevin im pretty sure can play the bass and Nick plays the drums which he plays among other things…….. jonas brothers have become the new thing in pop culture obviously people can not get a hold of that concept. and next time before you make a comment like that look into things you made yourself look like an idiot.

Kristen | 6/24/2009, 12:08 am EST

loved this article, and i love what they said, they dont need everyone to like there music, they love what they do and dont care if people dont take them seriously, thank you rolling stone for having them on your cover again.

Kristen | 6/24/2009, 12:13 am EST

basser- nick plays the drums, guitar, piano and sings lead vocals, next time get your facts straight before you make a fool out of yourself. also kevin plays the guitar and sings as well.

Michelle | 6/24/2009, 12:16 am EST

Actually, both Kevin and Nick are multi-instrumentalists. They both play guitar and piano live and Nick plays drums live. I’ve been to several of their shows and they’re real and everything is live. They are good at what they do. Of course they’ll never be ACDC, Aerosmith, etc., but you know something? Who was Aerosmith, ACDC? No one but themselves! The Jonas Brothers are original and true and they deserve respect for it.

Renae | 6/24/2009, 12:23 am EST

I think they deserve the chance to be heard. People that come on here and just hate, you aren’t affecting anyone. Just be open minded. Rolling Stone is doing a good job of that y giving them a chance. And if you find you don’t like their music, or them, then move on. Don’t dwell on it.

Cristina | 6/24/2009, 12:26 am EST

Love them! They are true musicians because they do sing, play their own instruments (guitar, drums, piano, keyboard), and write their own songs and they are also incredible performers! Don’t misjudge them or be close-minded because of their age or that they have a partnership with Disney because as I said before they are true musicians! And Disney has started the careers for many big names (Christina Aguliera, Britney Spears, JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Shia LaBeouf)!
I’ve had the pleasure to meet them once and be up close to them at events and they are humble, gentlemen, and genuine!
Everyone has different preferences in music and just because JB isn’t your choice doesn’t make them not real musicians!

GG Man | 6/24/2009, 12:39 am EST

C’mon………..another cover of the JB’s…………..wtf man

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 12:54 am EST

Wow, I used to think that Rolling Stone was the pinnacle of musical journalism. But this officially marks the transition from legitimate rock magazine to just another pop-icon worshiping, gossip fueled crap booklet. I wonder how long it will take for supermarkets to put RS up next to US weekly and OK! near the register. I mean I can at least to pretend to overlook the Hills and Gossip girls, but the American Idol LOSER followed by the fucking Disney channel Jonas Brothers? I am not knocking the Jonas Brothers, I respect how they have made a career from a Disney channel following, but they do NOT deserve the fucking cover of Rolling Stone yet, let them earn it first.
What happened to the Nirvana covers? the Blues Brothers in all blue? The fucking John and Yoko cover!! I mean even the Britney covers marked a new turn in pop music. the Jonas Brothers are simply cashing in on the teen empire created by their predecessors, they are nothing new. Getting on the cover of Rolling Stone used to mean something, it used to be a symbol of musical and cultural status, now the magazine itself is demoting the value and its becoming nothing more than another flavor of the week cover…im not angry, just sad

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 12:58 am EST

I just find it hard to believe that there was so little going on in the entire realm of rock and movies that RS had to give the jonas brothers ANOTHER cover

laris boaron jonas | 6/24/2009, 1:15 am EST

wow! they are so much hunk!
i love joe joe!
nick and kevin you are so cute!!!
that us realy beautiful:)

Everrett Harrison | 6/24/2009, 1:34 am EST

Thank you Rolling Stone, for fully functional covers. Not only do I lose weight when I vomit from seeing such horrible acts gracing the cover of a once outrageous and exciting, now bland and mainstream magazine, but I also have bloody comfortable toilet paper as well. Seriously though, another cover? I really thought that these Jomos couldn’t bother me anymore when they play up the diabetes schlock or appear in Good Housekeeping, but twice in a year on Rolling Stone? I’ve lost all faith in you, RS, and in modern music today. Seeing what Disney’s done to music nowadays riles me up and makes me want to go out and buy recording equipment and set up my own studio and record, but then I’m brought back to earth cause I don’t have the money to afford any of that and I can’t have it handed to me by some corporation to force me to churn out generic twee pop to force in people’s faces. Stone, actually start reporting on music, please!

not buying it | 6/24/2009, 1:44 am EST

This trio will always be bubblegum pop to me. I can’t imagine them outgrowing Disney. The youngest (and most talented) may be able to branch out eventually and do something like Justin Timberlake managed to do, but that’s about it. Rock and the JB simply don’t go together.

Eddie | 6/24/2009, 2:14 am EST

Jesus, what happened to Rolling Stone?

Sarah | 6/24/2009, 2:20 am EST

These boys have talent, they write their own songs, play their own instruments and work their asses off almost everyday. They are not another NSYNC or BackStreet Boys, people should give them more credit.

gaston | 6/24/2009, 3:37 am EST

people give JB a chance… it´s ok that disney is over them but they want to grow up

the time is the only one who will going to say that those guys become or not great muscisians

DjDaNgAaCoOlLiKeMe | 6/24/2009, 4:19 am EST

……Joe ur soooo cute xecpt the hairstyle i liked mohawk stuff mor than this.Again man ur sooooo awesome funny talented n bla bla bla like u really much DJ DANGAA…….;D

kim | 6/24/2009, 4:29 am EST

i think people should stop saying “you’re not real musicians, i could play what you’re playing” because they know that… they pretty much just said that

i really like this excerpt, can’t wait to read the rest

brett | 6/24/2009, 4:31 am EST

Whether you like it or not, they’re on the cover again. I think this cover style is really cohesive with their new sound. They are obviously working really hard to move into being respected musicians and i applaud them for that. Joe is right in saying, “If they like our music, they like our music, and if they don’t, fine. We don’t need you like our music.”

William | 6/24/2009, 5:24 am EST

4 words…
FUCK THE JONAS BROTHERS
and fuck Rollingstones Magazine. what the hell happened to good musicians being on the cover? Hell, there are so many bands out there today that are so much better the JB and they just had to get the cover… twice! this is fucking pathetic. i quit

brazil_girl | 6/24/2009, 5:43 am EST

oh mama, they are so hot!

Matty.G | 6/24/2009, 6:03 am EST

Did i just stumble upon Disney Weekly or Smash Hits Magazine or something? Who’s running Rolling Stone mag nowadays anyway.. This is a disgrace, however they continue to put such ridiculous musical acts in there mag so they sure aren’t listening to there traditional fan base!

Sophie | 6/24/2009, 7:24 am EST

JB are awesome. You guys are right, they are teen idols, but hey, i bet you had them too when you were their age. Chill out people.

Mar | 6/24/2009, 7:39 am EST

Congratulations to the Jonas Brothers for achieving ANOTHER cover.
HAHA to everyone canceling their subscriptions. Gosh, what do you want from them, they try so hard to be respected and instead none of you give them a chance.
The Jonas Brothers are a good band, and someday everyone will realize that.
Now about that cover, man has Joe bulked up and turned into the 20 year old he will be soon. He’s very sexy.

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 7:39 am EST

Once is horrible. Twice is unbearable. Rolling Stone just lost a customer. This disgusts me. What a joke.

Zizo | 6/24/2009, 8:24 am EST

YES! Another cover wooohoo~ im so happy for them. for everyone hating…oh build a bridge and get the fuck over it!!

GG | 6/24/2009, 8:50 am EST

Anotehr cover in such a short period of time for the JoBros? What next, 4 stars out of 5? There is something going wrong at RS. I’m sorry. There were people complaining about Kings of Leon being on the cover (well deserved by the way), and then you put the JoBros on again? For what? To help Disney sell more records for them to the teenage fanbase or to increase your sales ….or both I suppose. Whatevs…why I am here? lol

REALLY???????? | 6/24/2009, 8:55 am EST

Is the RS or Tiger Beat???? Can’t tell the difference anymore!

TeddyB | 6/24/2009, 9:02 am EST

I have let my subscriptions to both Spin and Rolling Stone go over the past few years and now I buy each occasionally. The last two issues of Spin had The Dead Weather and a celebration of 25 years of Purple Rain on the cover. The last three issues of RS had Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert and now the Jonas Brothers. Holy shit Rolling Stone, you are so irrelevant in reporting music right now. Of the 3 artists, I give Lady Gaga a fighting chance to still be around in the next 2 years. I feel I may never buy this magazine again. Fucking terrible.

lulu | 6/24/2009, 9:04 am EST

they are AMAZING musicians .people . rolemodels..yes they are getting music worlds respect but they are not changing who they are ..and what they are all about ..the pics are amazing totally hot ..

to jonas fans they will always be bothe BOYS and MEN

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 9:14 am EST

This band will never outgrow bad teen pop. They were meant to be a bad pop band and that’s all they ever will be, even if they were around until they’re all 100. They’ll never turn into anything. I wish RS would consider cover chioces more carefully. Past covers are usually phenominal, Green Day, AC/DC, U2, etc. bands with talent and something to show for themselves, bands who earned their fame… not bands who were pushed to fame by a Disney Channel or other marketing engine, despite lack of talent. Pick better cover choices.

CrystalSpyder4 | 6/24/2009, 9:32 am EST

RS is completely losing touch with its mission and its roots. I don’t even have any particular beef about the Jonas Brothers, nor would I listen to them; however, there are so many worthy artists who are making relevant music…be it veteran acts or newer artists. How can RS keep missing the mark by showcasing kiddie-pop stars on the cover, desperately trying to revamp its audience to the Disney/MTV crowd. News flash: they’re not going to suddenly follow Rolling Stone like it’s their Pied Piper!

With noteworthy releases by current artists such as Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Bat For Lashes, Mastodon, The Decemberists, or even established act such as Neil Young, PJ Harvey, Dinosaur Jr, Iggy Pop, are you telling us you couldn’t find room for a little diversity? Years ago, we would have seen them.

If RS wants to maintain any sort of integrity in the coming years, they will realize that it might be wise to realize that its core audience has little to no interest with tween-pop stars. I’ve been buying the magazine for over 25 years, and I’ve NEVER witnessed such a barrage of mediocrity on the covers.

DAR-C | 6/24/2009, 9:35 am EST

You know RS might have lost customers but I’m sure for every one they lost they gained another 20. For the people who say they have no talent are the ones who have never been to a concert, never heard them actually sing or never heard one of their songs. They only see the Disney label that comes along with them which I find is pathetic. Rolling Stone Magazine is all about the music! And if they find that the Jonas Brothers are worth being on the cover not once but twice then they obviously MUST have some form of talent! You people are just to immature to realize it.. I’m not saying you have to like their music cause obviously they can’t appeal to everyone. But that doesn’t give you the right to say they don’t have talent… Just give them a chance… It won’t hurt anyone!

MG | 6/24/2009, 9:40 am EST

Thank you so much Rolling Stone for having the JB on your cover once again.

boo | 6/24/2009, 9:41 am EST

WTF? Cancelling my subscription in 3…2….1….

Steve | 6/24/2009, 9:44 am EST

What a fucking joke RS is turning into. These no talent douchebags on the cover??? I dunno if RS is trying to sell magazines to 14 year old girls or what, but this is fucking ridiculous.

hypocrits | 6/24/2009, 9:48 am EST

nice going rolling stone. you often bemoan the downfall of the modern music industry in your articles and then you directly contribute to it by putting a fake Disney band like the Jonas Brothers on the cover… again

They represent everything that is wrong with the music industry today. But I guess all you really care about is ‘dat money. Enjoy all the little girls with ZERO musical tastes buying your magazine this month. You really think they are going to still be your customers in 5 years? Hell no. You need to ride the horse that brought you here and try pleasing your sustainable customers.

Jann… you are such a corporate beeotch now. You are a complete poseur. Bend over again for the dollar.

In The Foot...Again | 6/24/2009, 10:27 am EST

RS, congrats, you’ve managed to dissapoint again. Why don’t you cover REAL music, artists who ACTUALLY write their own music, and have EARNED their place instead of payed for it.

Lester Bangs | 6/24/2009, 10:41 am EST

I can’t really say I’m surprised.

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 10:42 am EST

In response to several of the “they have no talent” comments, if you actually take the time to read the liner notes, the brothers actually DO write their own stuff AND play their own instruments. Sure, they have a touring band, but what musical act doesn’t? Personally, in a few years once they’ve grown past lyrics involving homework, I expect them to put out an incredible album.

A | 6/24/2009, 10:43 am EST

No one said you had to like them!
They all play instruments and they write EVERY song on their albums!!

Oh and btw Nick DOES play drums!!
They actaully have talent but people always put the purtiy rings or the Disney label 1st!
Go listen to the song Black Keys off their new album and then tell me that 16 YEAR OLD Nick is not a talent!!

Stephanie | 6/24/2009, 10:49 am EST

Actually, if you read the liner notes, all of the brother’s play multiple instruments on their records. Sure, they have a touring band, but what act doesn’t? Personally, I think if you give them a few years they will suprise everyone with a really incredible album… as is a few of their songs are really pretty decent and this is said by a girl who a) just dated herself by saying she knows what liner notes are and b) grew up listening to G’n'R on repeat.

Mourner | 6/24/2009, 10:59 am EST

I just watched Almost Famous last night. I was marveling the whole time at how well Cameron Crowe depicted the thrill of his early life trying to make it as a music journalist beginning with the excitement of being given the opportunity to write a Rolling Stone cover story. Back in those days, that used to mean something. As a musician, I am no longer looking forward to one day being on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. As far as I’m concerned, Rolling Stone is dead. R.I.P. old friend.

em | 6/24/2009, 11:58 am EST

Boo.
Hiss.
Vomit.

Kit | 6/24/2009, 12:11 pm EST

Wow. What the hell RS? It was bad enough seeing them on the cover the first time. Another cover? Really? There are so many other more deserving bands out there. Bands that have been together for years and don’t need a back up band to play live. The Donnas for example. They’ve been together for 16 years and play better than most musicians out there now. They are certainly better than the Jonas Brothers. Come on Rolling Stone, anyone with any common sense knows the Jonas Brothers will fade away like every boyband eventually does. What a joke.

CMB215 | 6/24/2009, 12:30 pm EST

CMB215 | 6/24/2009, 12:32 pm EST

algomajoker | 6/24/2009, 12:36 pm EST

So now we all know where the MBA’s who ran AIG and Fannie Mae into the ground landed new jobs: Rolling Stone Marketing Department! They probably dazzled you with talk of demographics and buying power…Wow!
Was Bobby Sherman or David Cassidy ever on the cover? I forget. No… wait… that’s back in the days of integrity, beofre you decided to cater to the TigerBeat generation.
Somebody there has a little bit of a crush on these boys, don’t ya?

Goo goo | 6/24/2009, 12:40 pm EST

JoBros should tour with Slipknot. Two awesomely sucky bands in totally different genres.

Teresa | 6/24/2009, 12:51 pm EST

Go RS! I’m glad to see them on the cover again. They earned it! And to everybody that has a problem about their music. They write it all. People need to look past the purity rings, and the fact they are on disney. The only thing you guys are mad at, is that they made their dreams come true, yet yours are still on the back burner.I’m proud to say that i am a fan of them and will be for the rest of my life.

REAL music BITCH! | 6/24/2009, 1:04 pm EST

okayyy….wtff?? the jonas brothers?? wow RS first the queer bait Adam Lambert now the little virgin non smoking purity ring Jonas Brothers! guess which group of people are not buying this time! yup you guessed it! everyone who is NOT 12 and under…next time lets try a band like mgmt…or maybe Foo Fighters…or to be on the safe side how bout the band that really knows there shit….the stones! JB FAN | 6/24/2009, 1:07 pm EST

WOW. THIS IS SO GREAT. ALL OF YOU NON JB FANS NEED TO SHUT UP AND LET IT BE BECAUSE ITS ALREADY HAPPENED. THEY ARE A GREAT BAND AND ARE TRUE MUSCIANS. JUST BECAUSE THERE FROM DISNEY DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING. THERE MUSIC IS REALLY GOOD. YOU JUST DONT KNOW HOW TO APPRECIATE IT. THEY ARE UP THERE WITH SOME OF THE BEST. DONT HATE. JB KEEP ROCKIN. WE LOVE YOU.

Wow | 6/24/2009, 1:08 pm EST

Go ahead and cancel your subscription.

For every one lost, I bet RS is gaining 30 anyway. Shame on you for not giving those boys a chance.

To those of you who think they’ve had this handed to them, do a little research before you come on here and bash a band. It may just add credibility to your argument.

Thank you RS for giving these boys a chance and for allowing them to live their dream.

Jonas??? | 6/24/2009, 1:08 pm EST

A

Why don’t you listen to THE BLACK KEYS and you will hear real music – not this pre-fab bs posing as music. Rolling Stone you should be ashamed of yourselves, two garbage cover stories in a row. Is the new rolling stone target demographic 12 year old girls???

Anonymous73 | 6/24/2009, 1:08 pm EST

Hey, common ! They are real musicians and its not because they are qith Disney that thay are not good ! :O These guys are talented and i now they will never be like ColdPlay, AcDc but they deserve respect !
Peace. Love. Jonas.

Well, now we know that the MBA’s who ran AIG and Lehman into the ground have all landed new jobs… in the RS marketing department! I bet they dazzled everyone with their talk of demographics and teen buying power. Why, I bet there was even a pie chart. Mmmmmm, pie…
Remind me: was David Cassidy or the other Tiger Beat teen heartthrobs ever on the cover? But, then, that was back in the days when integrity meant something.

Richards, A. | 6/24/2009, 1:18 pm EST

okay RS WTF?? really? your not gonna put a band like slightly stoopid or 311…but you will put the virgin purity ring jonas brothers…wow what are we 8? and this is supposed to be a rock magazine?? it was bad enough you had ADAM LAMBERT..lets pick a band that actually gets big without some kind of tv show..okay?

Richards, A. | 6/24/2009, 1:20 pm EST

and this is to WOW…you must be some 8 year old..or a parent because you obviously dont know music

i hate them | 6/24/2009, 1:34 pm EST

they will never gain credibility because they can’t play if they want credibility they have tho ditch the backup band

Wow | 6/24/2009, 1:51 pm EST

I dont care their hot guys…Really they are…and if you dont like them then why do you coment their stuff?? Anyways i love it i should buy it..I think i will!!!

Jonas Brothers talk about outgrowing teen pop in new issue; true music fans let out collective sigh and turn to SPIN.

Pslightly Psycho | 6/24/2009, 2:01 pm EST

Gabriella: yo learn how to speaka da language you moron. Only retards speak the way you do.

Me | 6/24/2009, 2:22 pm EST

Okay, I’m somewhat of a Jobros fan, but I’m also with some of the people that say “Why are they on the cover AGAIN when there are other bands that deserve it more?”.
They DO write their own music though, they have their own style, they play their own instruments, and put on amazing performances. You people can’t say they have “no talent”, cause it’s just a blatant lie. People who don’t know them look at nothing more than their Disney label and think they know everything they have to, and that’s pretty damn ignorant and judgemental. I bet you think you could do better? Ha, right. They’ve earned their fame fair and square, you’re not going to find a more talented sibling trio.

And bassist, Nick plays the drums (very often), guitar, and piano/keyboard, Joe plays keyboards, the tambourine, and the guitar, and Kevin plays guitar. You had NO IDEA what instruments any of them played when posting that, so why did you even bother?

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 2:24 pm EST

Damn they look hotter than ever and for all the haters Nobody wants to read your pathetic jealous opinon of the jonas brothers you know what if you dont like them why would you comment on them you idiots

Sorry, I meant “Basser”.

… um yeah, Jonas???

this is for you.

the jonas brothers wrote the song the black keys.

duh.

you’re probably just too caught up in the crap that you listen to to realize that.

jonas brothers forever baby! =]

this is me | 6/24/2009, 2:39 pm EST

oh and one more thing…

whats wrong with the jonas brothers wearing purity rings and promising God not to have sex before marriage??? whats so weird about being a virgin at age 16??

i bet all of you lost your virginity at a young age like a bunch of whores and or just think its cool to have sex before marriage.

well guess what? im a 14 year old girl and me and all of my friends wear purity rings because we believe in God and abstinence.

and besides, God is so cool! =]
like the jonas brothers. unlike you.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. They’re not the only band selling CD’s right now. Go listen to music your taste. I used to be a crazy fan but now I realized they have more than looks. They are talented, rolde-model type guys. They truely seem genuine. And they’re not looking to conquer the world. They just want to do what they like and if a million little girls follow, then so be it. It’s been 3 years, and it was their awkward stage. Now they relized what they want and I think they are ready to move forward with their career.

If you don’t like them, good for you. Just let the guys live their dream and enjoy it.

zoo valdes | 6/24/2009, 2:58 pm EST

another jonas brothers cover… we better get a WILCO cover story in exchange out of this.

Derekp | 6/24/2009, 2:58 pm EST

I think i’ve seen this somewhere before…but it’s not bad at all

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 3:06 pm EST

I cannot force anyone to like a band and obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
However i can say that these guys have my respect and i enjoy their music but obviously i enjoy listening to other bands too.
Saying that they have no talent is false, they obviously write their own music, there’s no real evidence that you can give saying that they don’t and they play their own instruments. They’re brothers and they’re all under 22. Give them some slack, let them mature and whether you still think “they suck, and have no talent” each day they’re gaining new fans and they’re having the best lives and selling records. I’ll be a fan that is sure to stay.

Haters can suck it :) | 6/24/2009, 3:22 pm EST

Wow.

I’ve never seen people hate as much as they hate the Jonas Brothers. And why? Because they obviously have nothing better to do but trash talk people who followed their dreams and succeeded in achieving their goals.

Why don’t you take a lesson from them; get off the computer and do something with your life.

Yes, they work with Disney. Yes, they wear Purity Rings. And yes, they are indeed a pop band.

But that doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve respect. That doesn’t mean that their music isn’t good. And it doesn’t mean they will fade away in a few years like the boybands of the 90’s.

They’re trying to grow out of the “teen pop” genre. Did anyone read the article, or did you just see “Jonas Brothers” and decide that you were gonna flex your “music knowledge” muscles and drone on about how much you think they suck.

Well, get off your high horse, folks. Nobody cares about what you have to say. Go find a story about your favorite band and rave about how “radical” they are.

So what if, at the moment, the majority of their fanbase is teenage girls?

Would you haters like to take a second to talk about YOUR fans? Oh, that’s right. You don’t have any, because you’re all people the ages of 20 to 35 who think they know everything there is to know about music and want to continue living in the past where boybands automatically die out within a few years, and the only way to be classified as a “good band” is to do drugs and have sex all the time.

And to stop reading RS would be pretty ridiculous, don’t you think? Just because they’re covering a band that you don’t like?

You’ve trusted and enjoyed what they’ve had to say for a while, so obviously, these guys are worth checking out. RS hasn’t changed. So they wanna cover bands that you don’t listen to and form stupid and hollow opinions about. Good. Maybe it will open your eyes to the fact that the world is more than 80’s rock and roll and the people today who are trying to simulate it.

Congratulations, Jonas Brothers on your second Rolling Stone cover!

You most definitely deserve it!

Whats wrong with having morals?
Whats wrong with NOT wanting to go around screwing every girl out there and eventually getting an STD?
Seriously people, the Jonas Brothers are a good band. Just because they dont smoke, do drugs, or have sex doesn’t make their music horible. They don’t discriminate women, which makes them well-liked. These boys bring something different. They are talented, they are handsome, and their music is what they are about, and everything is from their experiences. They write their own songs. They most likely won’t go down in history as one of the greatest boy bands of all, but they are pretty damn close.
They deserve this cover as well as the previous one.

Saosin.AFI.Jonas.MJT. | 6/24/2009, 4:08 pm EST

Soo many people hate the Jonas Brothers. And most of them happen to be boys who are between the ages of 13 and 25. Or at least those are the ones that have the time to post so many negative comments on their YouTube channel, articles that they’re featured in, etc. I go to their YouTube channel almost every day, stumble upon the comment section, and see soo many negative comments. And now I just read comments on this article like that. Could you guys please stop it? Whoever takes the time to comment negatively must be really gutsy and have so much time on their hands. And they could be doing something productive or something that will benefit them like listening to music they enjoy. Instead they bash and post hateful comments towards these nice 3 gentlemen who worked hard to earn the position they have now. And they’re still working hard on tour, creating albums, being on their new TV series. They DO get nice comments and a lot of them, but probably more negative ones because the haters want them gone and banished out of the musical world. I love the Jonas Brothers. I have since February of 2008 and maybe before that. I don’t like them as much as I did then (I was crazed), but I still would never bash them. They inspired me, and many others. And so what if they don’t curse in their songs or wear purity rings? Most metal and heavy rock bands don’t curse either. They don’t suck. At all. The bashers just listen to other types and genres of music. Also, you guys (haters) do know that the Jonas Brothers laugh at you and they don’t care what you say, because they have so many fans that actually support them. They love their fans. They basically ignore the people who hate them.

I love Kevin, Joe, and Nick. And the nice people for showing respect and support for JB and for yelling at the haters.

i’m an 18 year old girl. i hate the jonas brothers. they have no buisness being on this cover, let alone twice. what audience are you catering to rolling stone? teenie bopper pre teens who have never even heard of led zeppelin? oh, thats right, you guys hate zeppelin too, you have that in common. you pan every zep album in their time but drool over the jonas brothers? your magazine is a joke. let me guess, your trying to “modernize” be “hip” with the young crowd. well, i guess that means compromising every standard you have (correction, had) between this and promoting american false idol you might as well hang up the gloves and call it a day.

the jonas brothers are more talented then a lot of bands they put on the cover, and they more then deserve this. they have worked incredibly hard for this. and news flash, they don’t care if you don’t like their music. they love what they do. and they inspire people, young and old, everyday. so stop with the BS, and if you don’t like JB on rolling stone, stop reading it. problem solved. they couldn’t care less. the jonas brothers are amazing muscians. they write their own music, play multiple instruments, sell millions of albums, have fans all over the world, and stay true to theirselves. they honestly couldn’t care if some 21 year old, or 18 year old in some small town likes their music. get over it. they deserve more then crediblity, and they will go down in history.

i love you joe, nick and kevin.
you guys are crazy talented

I don’t have a real issue with them being on the cover … but TWICE in a very short time? What gives? However good they are, they arn’t worth this exposure.

Anonymous | 6/24/2009, 8:13 pm EST

People that comment this trashing the magazine because the Jonas Brothers are on the cover are ignorant. The reason why they are on the cover is because of the success that surrounds them, if they had no success then no, they wouldn’t be on the cover. The music industry recognizes how successful they’ve become and applaud that. All you do is sit behind the computer screen bashing every person that sees the potential in them. They are human beings, two of them are adults. Just because they cater to a young crowd doesn’t mean they aren’t worth recognition. You guys sit there and support bands and musicians that have a negative influence on today’s youth. If you say that children and teens don’t listen to the adult bands, think again. Open your eyes to the truth, then you can form your blasphemous opinions.

Megan | 6/24/2009, 8:39 pm EST

Since when did people get so small minded?

It isn’t the end of the world that the Jonas Brothers are on the cover, they sell millions of albums, sell out tours and have a massive fan base of course a magazine will interview them. The boys do write their own songs and play their own instruments I don’t really understand the hate towards them but i’m proud of them well done guys.

Seriously fucked up is putting it mildly. We, the chicks of the Rolling Stone Generation, would like to see ‘men’ of music on the cover. Not a pre-pubescent jail-bait trio that should be playing at Attica to make the murderers serving life make that time seem long as possible. They punish the eyes, they assault the ears, and yes, they belong on Tiger Beat, the teenie weenie teen magazine for tiny brains.

The Jonas Brothers are not a group. You can only cluster them together as human hemorrhoids (a by-product of serving time in jail)

So please, somebody find some lotion that will make the Jonas infection disappear, like a bad attack of herpes.

And as for Rolling Stone, rest in peace you motherfuckers. You are no longer a music magazine. You’re a rag. Next week you’ll have Hannah Montana on the cover

At this point, I think you’d get a better interview out of sweet Jimmy Morrison than most of the people you’ve had on the cover these past few months.

The Jonas Brothers are “real artists” bc they write ALL the songs on their albums and they play mulitple instruments, do some research and stop being so ignorant, simple as that!

Lisa | 6/25/2009, 9:35 am EST

i’m not one to really knock the jonas brothers. i think the fact that they play their own instruments and write their own material makes them a lot more legit than some of the other acts out there targeted at the same audience.
however, i feel as though you guys at Rolling Stone are not opening your covers up to other artists. they’re loads of great artists out there who could easily grace your cover. if you guys can have an american idol who apparently should have won on your cover practically a day after he lost, then i’m sure you can have some other new musicians.
it wouldn’t be so bad if you had put the jonas brothers on a later cover, but i just seems that it was last week they were on it.
all i’m saying is that i think you need to pull up your socks and perhaps start being a legit music magazine again instead of just going with the mainstream and putting the same people on the cover over and over again.
the jonas brothers are not obama, and they are most definetely not john lennon.

And by some catostrophe there is, I hope you’re out of the closet. No actual fan of rock music would even consider these guys.

Wow | 6/25/2009, 10:46 am EST

Rolling Stone needs to get a clue; not only are these guys horrible; there are 100’s of great bands that are 100 times more deserving then these guys. Have you heard their music? Its about as awful as you can get in all regards. Its really really really really really bad. These guys are doomed and no they are not every 1/1000th of the early Beatles… any comparasion is completely 100% ridiculous and a clueless statement.

mmhmm... | 6/25/2009, 10:47 am EST

“ok ppl keep saying the jonas brothers are not “real music” um two #1 albums within ten months..”

The fact that they were able to release two albums in the course of ten months says something to me about the amount of time put into the music… yegh.

This crap makes me want to cancel my subscription. Horrible, horrible, horrible music.

Andrew | 6/25/2009, 12:29 pm EST

I find it incredible that so many people take offense to pop music. All of you “musical purists” really need to accept the fact that pop will always be enjoyed by many different types of people. The fact that these guys are selling so many albums should say something about the quality of their music. And have you listened to any of their songs before writing it off as terrible music? Most of their songs have complicated arrangements as well as catchy hooks that keep people listening. Their most recent single sounds like a U2 song, which most people consider to be amazing rock music.

Don’t bash music simply because you find it too “mainstream”. I get heated when people bash poprock because of the label slapped on it.

Eugene | 6/25/2009, 1:31 pm EST

Just think of the possibility of all the countless bands in their teens and early 20’s, struggling in obscurity, crafting quality pop rock without the help of studio and live musicians and outside songwriters that will never be rich and famous because they’re ugly. Don’t be fooled: Awkwardly strumming bar chords is not playing the guitar.

Anonymous | 6/25/2009, 1:39 pm EST

Yes, the boys do write their own songs, and play their own instruments.

But so what?

Their songwriting is schlocky, and their musicianship is mediocre at best.

People are so easily fooled into believing that mediocrity is exceptional.

fan | 6/25/2009, 1:47 pm EST

Eugene, the Jonas Brothers write all of the songs themself, they don’t get outside help! Really, do some research before you just bash them!

I am disappointed | 6/25/2009, 2:14 pm EST

Rolling Stone took the side of these whiney “rockers” who don’t know the definition of a fucking solo. RS is just in it for the money now because they know this stuff sells issues. I simply cannot understand what makes the people at what used to be a decent magazine side with this disney money train. I’m cancelling my subscription if I don’t see a decent band next week. C’mon RS put St. Vincent on your cover or Gogol Bordello, they’re actually innovative and don’t care about the money, they care about the music.

what makes a good "musician"? | 6/25/2009, 2:36 pm EST

People talk about how the Jonas Brothers are not good musicians, and I would like to know what makes a good musician. Is it someone who has done a lot of drugs to the point where their brains are completely cooked? The band that screams so hard you can’t understand what they are saying? Or is it more the people who make songs that others like so much that people are willing to pay to listen to it by the millions?

…I’m going with the numbers on this and saying that the Jonas Brothers are great musicians…

Just because you deem their music unworthy does not mean it isn’t “real music”. They are legitimate artists, and they deserve respect, if not love.

Jonathan | 6/25/2009, 3:23 pm EST

I happen to think they a fairly good musicians. Just because they are not the type of music that you enjoy does not make them automatically bad. It’s all about perspective. It’s like saying a certain food tastes “good” or “bad”, it depends on the person.

If many people like the brothers, then so be it. They are deserving of the cover based upon their popularity.

I hope that all you closed minded commenters out there would realize that there are bigger things in like to be upset about than whether of not this band is good or bad. If the Jonas Brothers being on the cover of Rolling Stone is what makes you upset, you really need to find better causes to direct your energy towards.

I am 19 and a big fan of The Jonas Brothers and no I am not one of those teenie-boppers, I grew up loving Kid Rock and The Beatles my mom played Poison and Pantera when she was pregnant with me, but I am not the kind of person to stick to one type of music.

The Jonas Brothers are three very talented boys, yeah they might star on Disney but they have something to say. I am so sick of reading something about them and all people do is dog them, who cares if they are signed to Disney and have a show on it, or if they choose to stay pure until marriage and choose not to shook themselves with drugs or drown themselves in booze like most teen stars these day. People just need to leave the boys alone, if you hate them so much then don’t comment about them just let them live there lives and if you would actually listened to one of their songs or at least read the lyrics you would see that they are here for the music and that they really don’t care what you have to say about them, they have been made fun of by almost everyone that can make fun of them in Hollywood and they haven’t run away yet. As long as their fans are happy so are they.

Yeah The Jonas Brothers have not been around for a long time but those boys have put in their dues to the entertainment industry, both Nick and Joe have done their fair share of Broadway shows as kids, from Beauty and the Beast to Les Misérables and La bohème and Kevin did commercials. Nick had a failed record when he was 6 years old, they were kicked off their label after their first album flopped, they played in small little venues and for middle and high schools where they were booed off stage. They became The Jonas Brothers back when nick was like 11 so almost six years now and we have only heard about them for really two years, they have worked their asses off to get to where they are now and they deserve everything they have because they call the shots and they write the song and they say what goes into the tour, they don’t have some Disney person telling them what to do, they design everything themselves and Nick is a big part of the fight for Diabetes.

if the jonas brothers want credibility, they have 2 options in my mind . . .
1) quit
2) start doing drugs and porking porn stars

sara | 6/25/2009, 4:23 pm EST

Love them . come out again is the best decision ever

Gerri | 6/25/2009, 4:25 pm EST

I don’t mind that Jonas Brothers are on the cover of RS. At least they sing, write and play their own instruments (at least two of them do) like real artists. I get more irritated when they put someone like Britney Spears who can’t even sing and lip-syncs in her concert.

loyal fan | 6/25/2009, 4:45 pm EST

The Jonas Brothers have been growing with their music for SO long! I think these past two albums have been great. If YOU had a band that had let’s say “way better music then the JB’s” and disney asked you to be apart of their company and offered you a record deal, you would take it. I would take anything that great of a deal to reach my goals of becoming a famous musician. They’re a great band. Give these guys a break. They got a lucky break, and so can other bands! Jesus.

Jenny | 6/25/2009, 6:20 pm EST

People really they might be from disney but that has nothing to do with why they have fans. they write there own music they play there insturments and in concert wow they actually sing. they are really good artists and just because you might not like it cause your alll llike thirty thats okay cause i mean seriously when your young and im not saying like 12 i mean like 16, 17 you listen to different music then you will when you get older. taste change and they happen to be great so haters. get over it. they have graced the cover of rolling stones twice in one year ide say there pretty amazing.=)

Incredible | 6/25/2009, 6:59 pm EST

Rolling stone fire someone… what a joke!!! Horrible music. It doesnt matter what they think they are Pop, Rock, etc… their music is horrible. There are 100’s of great bands out there and you pick the worst of the worst!!! How about Sigur Ros! Arctic Monkeys? HAVE YOU EVEN SEEN THESE GUYS? Do you ever attend live music? FIRE SOMEONE THIS IS A JOKE!!!!!!!

Why are you guys so mad? I love the jonas brothers and I am sixteen and im black. Music is music and who are you to say what they are making isn’t music. How can you even come at rolling stone for chosing them. You need to really chill out and kick rocks. How about you get a band and become as sucessful as them and maybe I might give you the courtesy of downloading you music illegally. Jonas brothers keep up the good work because your new ablum was great. You guy have really developed since A Little Bit Longer. Also brush off all of the haters becuase you are only becoming more popular and they can not stop that. Also I think you guys are the best. Also you guys are really cool and what you are making is real MUSIC!

Wow. No one cares if you cancel your subscription to Rolling Stone. Go ahead. No one is stopping you. Seriously? Get. Real. No one cares about your hate comments either. So if I were you, I wouldn’t waste my time. They’re on the cover. End of story. There is NOTHING you can do about it. And for some of you: I agree that Adam Lambert is a freak and he shouldn’t have been on the cover. But the Jonas Brothers are fine. I like them. I’m not the biggest fan, but I like them.

Cayliegh | 6/25/2009, 8:12 pm EST

What the F is wrong with the editors at RS?!

Have you all suddenly gone retarded?!

I am unsubscribing!

Seriously, WTF!

Last year was bad enough.

NEVER AGAIN!

What are you thinking!

Editors of RS, I’ll see you in hell!!

What idiot at rolling stone made this decision. Horrible. What a disgrace to good music. Do you realize how many bands are 1000 times more deserving than a Disney band whose music by anybody aged 16 or above finds completely irrelavent, embarrassing, and comical?? What a horrible horrible decision. Get a clue. Fire the person who made this decision and get someone out to a REAL Live show… Urrggh I have to get this in the mail Urghh disgusting.

its cool, this magazine isnt really about music, its about whats the new hype, and whats popular, and what sells, its ALL business, you put on the cover what sells, period

Brittany Nicole :) | 6/25/2009, 11:37 pm EST

don’t you guys understand?! the Jonas Brothers have something they’d like to share with the world, through their music and by being on this new cover of Rolling Stone…they’re trying to prove that they are MORE than what all you “haters” commenting on here think they are. But you know what? you’re never going to hear what their trying to say if you don’t open your ears & your mind.

Honestly, these guys are fantastic & so is their new album: Lines, Vines and Trying Times. When i read comments on here that say what the Jonas Brothers make is, “terrible, horrible music…” i know for a fact that you haven’t REALLY listened to them, or read this article with an open mind.

The article is really great, although it focuses mainly on Nick & his musical abilities, which is fine, because he’s incredible for his age. The article opens by beautifully illustrating Nick’s passion for music and that even though he’s the youngest member at 16, he’s the musical genius behind the Jonas Brothers.

Now let’s think…If Nick Jonas already has this much success at the age of 16, and is writing music at a level like that of the new album and still has SO MUCH potential…i wouldn’t be hating if i were you. If anything he and his brothers should have your RESPECT.

Yeah, sure…they have Disney connections, but clearly, they’re trying to break away from that, and gain your respect. But that’s never going to happen if people keep Unsubscribing to Rolling Stone, and ignore what Rolling Stone AND the Jonas Brothers are trying to say…JUST GIVE THEM A DARN CHANCE. they’re really not as bad as people make them out to be, seriously.

Rolling Stone isn’t “stupid” for putting them on the cover, again. Or trying to put out what sells, they’re staying current. They’re one of the most prestigious music magazines out there. Rolling Stone & their editors/writers see what us fans see in the Boys: their true talent, and need to be recognized and respected for what they do.

Only time will tell where the Brothers end up, but i can assure you, we haven’t heard the last of them. All of you who doubt them will eventually see the light (let’s hope.) because honestly, they DO have the talent to back themselves up.

And notice how every single hate comment on here mentions the word “Disney” in a negative way? GET OVER IT. they’re not going to stay with Disney forever! they’re already trying to shed that image. Of course they most likely won’t shed it entirely, & will always have the shadow of Disney beneath them…they’re trying. And everyone out there should give a honest listen & see what all the fuss is about :)

I recommend the new album but mostly the tracks:

-Much Better
-World War III
-Turn Right
-Hey Baby
-Black Keys
-Don’t Speak

Why do people seriously take their time to come on here and bitch? You don’t have to like the Jonas Brothers, you don’t have to listen to them, you don’t have to read articles about them. Why take your time to complain about them? Spend that time admiring a band you really DO like.

There are plenty of bands that I’m not a big fan of, but I don’t go around talking about it. I’m a Jonas Brothers fan, I’m nineteen and I’m okay with being a fan of them. I like to listen to their music, and I like to follow them. I want to spend time reading about them and watching them, so I do. I don’t waste my time making myself miserable by putting on R&B or rap stations since I’m not a fan of that genre. Instead, I actively seek out what I DO like.

I feel like I’ve made my point clear. I probably won’t go out and buy this issue, instead I’ll just read it if I stumble upon it or it’s bought for me. But hey, Rolling Stone has deemed them worthy of the cover. Respect that.

Brittany Nicole :) | 6/25/2009, 11:58 pm EST

take a look at the 2nd comment on this page:

“basser | 6/23/2009, 10:51 pm EST

How are Jonas Brothers a “band”? Aren’t they a “group” (which brother plays drums or bass? None). Wow, Rolling Stone has sunk to a new low by having these kids on the cover AGAIN. Meet the new Rolling Stone, same as the old Tiger Beat …”

Nick plays both drums AND bass. (I’m not sure if he’s an ace bassist, but i’ve seen a picture of him playing bass before.) He obviously can’t play all of the instruments that he can at once. Solution: back up band. When they perform live, he plays drums on a couple songs, as well as playing most of the instruments on the studio recordings. & whatever else the comment said, i already touched on in my previous comment.

I just really can’t believe how so many people can be so against them. the amount of negativity towards them is insane. i don’t get it. They’re good guys, regardless of whether or not you like their music. Just leave them alone, please.

i’m sorry for posting on here so much but, hearing/seeing people say and write what they do about them gets me upset. I know it shouldn’t, but it does.

yeah rollingstone!! | 6/26/2009, 12:56 am EST

You most definitely deserve it!

Hey. I listen to Weezer, Led Zeppelin, and Lennon, AND the Jonas Brothers. If people hate the Jonas Brothers, why are you commenting and reading this? Your life is a joke if you are one of those people. And so what if you don’t want the Jonas Brothers on the Rolling Stone cover? It’s too late now
…..
I agree!!
..
.” “Personally, I’m not in the band to say, ‘Hey, you need to respect us, take us seriously,’ because that’s kind of stupid,” Joe tells RS. “We’re doing it because we love it, and we don’t care what age group we attract. If they like our music, they like our music, and if they don’t, fine. We don’t need you like our music.”
… joe: you knows!!!

One of the worst bands imaginable… rolling stone is clueless… have you guys ever been at a live concert? These guys are as horrible as you can get…

JB fan | 6/26/2009, 2:22 pm EST

Nothing like JB on the cover of Rolling Stone to bring out the arrogant, insecure, middle-aged fools who think that just because they have a subscription to RS that they are musical geniuses. Those of you hating on them are judging them simply by the fact that they are “with Disney” or “have little girl fans”, blah, blah, blah. I’m 42 and a huge fan, and I don’t care what anyone thinks of that. I’ve been around awhile, listen to all types of music from metal to r&b to pop and am a discerning type – not only are they true musicians, but they are good people, which counts for something to me, but apparently not to the mainstream. They are smart enough to surround themselves with good people (family) and they run a very tight ship and live clean lives – something very hard to do in this industry. “Black Keys”, written by Nick using only the black keys of a piano, is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life. And he’s 16. They put on a show at The Ryman a few months back with several different artists (Brad Paisley, Martina McBride, Stephen C. Chapman, and others) – stripped down and about nothing but music – and it was amazing. They covered classic songs that most kids their age haven’t ever heard (Tom Petty, America, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer). In their current tour, they cover “Sweet Caroline”. What teenager knows about that song? These “boys” have been an inspiration to many and done more for others in their short lives than most people do in a lifetime. They’ve introduced their young fans to classic artists just by saying who their inspirations are. They are constantly giving back, helping to raise $1,000,000 for diabetes research, visiting sick fans, lending their time and music for several different charities, etc. etc. Music is music, we’re not curing cancer here, and there’s not one person out there who can determine what is good music and what isn’t. It’s all subjective and different music brings out different emotions for everyone. Yes, I am an adult who has more important things to worry about, but they and their music drew my teenage daughter out of a funk she was in for a long time. A sort of depression that no therapist could help her with. Until you go thru something like that, you cannot judge, and JB and their music gave her something to get interested in and look forward to. She’s fine now, and will always hold a special place in her heart for them. You don’t have to like them….it’s really o.k. The hate and harsh criticism directed at them when they have done nothing but work tirelessly to share with their fans their music and incredible character is just foolish and unnecessary. Bless their parents for raising them right. And thank you to Rolling Stone for giving them positive coverage. I wish there were more people like them in this world….
RIP, MJ!

Dirty Duck / Ducky | 6/26/2009, 5:00 pm EST

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Fuck Rolling Stone Magazine!
Without a doubt the phoniest and most pathetic music mag in the world.
How can anyone honestly take this magazine seriously unless you’re still in highschool or completely tasteless? The jonas brothers are a BIG joke. Why? Because their is absolutly NO orginality with their image or sound. Remember HANSON? LOL! Same shit. Girls….11 years ago they WERE the jonas brothers.
Where are they now? Exactly.
Groups like these come and go because their fans will EVENTUALLY (although with this shit generation it might take a lot longer for them)grow up. Back when music was TALENT if you made the cover of rolling stone you MADE it…period. Now? One hit song and you’ve MADE it. Bullshit!
Lady GaGa (gag! Gag!)on the cover of a “supposed” ROCK magazine? Fuck off already! Your magazine sucks and obviuosly a good percentage of your readers. A bunch of spoiled brats who wouldnt know good music if they tried. I’m sure half your subscribers have mommy and daddy paying their subscription for them. You can take the brothers and this shit magazine and shove it.

Dirty Duck | 6/26/2009, 5:47 pm EST

JB: you expect people who dont like the jonas brothers to change their views because they know how to play a neil diamond song? (Sweet caroline) I couldnt stop laughing when I read that.

As far as giving to charities how do you know where the money’s going? How do you really know they GIVE? Cause you read it somewhere?
A good percentage of people who give to charaties give so they can be admired. Hollywood can be as fake as the politicians you vote for. Dont believe the hype.

For a 42 year old to defend a bunch of 16 year old wannabe rock stars is pathetic. Put down the magazine and be a parent…stop trying to be a friend. You’re not as cool as you think.

omg | 6/26/2009, 5:52 pm EST

If you think a horrible band’s horrible song “Black Keys” is the greatest song you’ve ever heard… the (a) you like horrible, crap-ballad, teen songs or (b) this is the only song you’ve ever heard.

JONAS BROTHERS are horrible in all ways. Every song is whiney with annoying crap lyrics, and its so funny to see these guys think they are great just because junior high kids haven’t heard good music in their life.

Dan | 6/26/2009, 5:54 pm EST

Good for them! They deserve it.

there | 6/26/2009, 5:55 pm EST

There are many great bands out there and Rolling Stone decides to disrespect them and put one of the most irrelevant bands on the cover again? How long did it take you to put BB King on the cover? Have you ever put Sigur Ros on the cover? Have you any respect for a great band? JB = as bad as you can get.

holly Crap | 6/26/2009, 5:59 pm EST

This is a joke, right? Rolling Stone is crap. The Jonas Brothers?! Seriously?! They are an untalented, pathetic band whose fans are girls under the age of 13. Rolling Stone is becomming more and more a sell out magazine and it’s really upsetting. There was a time when this magazine actually ment something to rock music. And now? It’s just another seventeen magazine filled with useless information on untalented “musicians” if you’d like to call them.

BTW, I’m 15. I used to adore the Rolling Stone magazine. I wanted to WORK for it at some point. I love music, and have always been amazed by the presentation and impact this magazine used to have. There used to be talents of the like of the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, The Doors, need I go on?

It’s sad to see such an influential magazine become a sell out. It’s main goal now is for million of girls to buy it.

So very pathetic.

Did you know the Jonas Brothers are being compared to THE BEATLES?!

I’m sure your little magazine doesn’t help this comparasin.

ALL4GOD | 6/26/2009, 9:06 pm EST

I think it’s awesome how far the Jonas Brothers have come. They have true talent from God, have recognized that fact, and are using it to glorify Him! They keep coming farther and farther in their career and take bigger strides everyday. I personally think “Lines, Vines, and Trying Times” is their greatest and most sophisticated album to date. It shows what they can do and I love that they are going in a direction THEY chose, regardless of whether anyone else thinks. That’s when you know artists are artists…when they do what they love. I think they are awesome and and I know they are doing it all for GOD! [:

And the examples they set for people. they are good people and i love there music cause they are apart of my generation and i will be a long time fan and supporter of the jonas brothers. people say they remember the first time they heard the beattles well i remember the first time i ever heard the jonas brothers. everyone just needs to start thinking about it alittle different and these are probably the people your kids look up too would you rather have them be looking up to musicans who are pot heads and drink all the time??? i think not. Anyways i love the jonas brothers and i will never stop beings a supporter of there music. keep doing what you are doing :) :):):):)

Hannah | 6/27/2009, 7:31 am EST

lmao, I don’t like the JoBroz and I *couldn’t* read the cover story because it was so dull.
But some people need to get over themselves and get lives.

And Rolling Stone is not a ROCK magazine, it is a pop culture magazine that focuses on music. And if you think only ROCK is good then you don’t know very much about music.

Rolling Stone does need better covers though (not just better artists, but better photography and less photoshop)
I like bands like the Cure and the Birthday Party/Nick Cave and then I also like pop like Kylie Minogue and Tokio Hotel so Rolling Stone should take these kinds of people into consideration.

Or maybe they should look at SPIN magazine and try to copy them lololol

Anonymous | 6/27/2009, 3:02 pm EST

what makes a good “musician”? said:

“People talk about how the Jonas Brothers are not good musicians, and I would like to know what makes a good musician. Is it someone who has done a lot of drugs to the point where their brains are completely cooked? The band that screams so hard you can’t understand what they are saying? Or is it more the people who make songs that others like so much that people are willing to pay to listen to it by the millions?

…I’m going with the numbers on this and saying that the Jonas Brothers are great musicians…”

emphasis on the: “Or is it more the people who make songs that others like so much that people are willing to pay to listen to it by the millions?”

Okay, so going by those “numbers”, that would make Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears great artists too. The problem with saying that is that if people buy a lot of their albums, that doesn’t necessarily make them a good band/artist. It just means they play POP music nowadays and that they have singles that differentiate little enough from the norm that they can be played on the radio. So what?

The whole problem here is not necessarily that they’re the worst band ever (which I have to admit is untrue, there are many worse things) it’s that they don’t do anything to separate their music from other people’s (The Beatles most certainly did on the other hand) and that is why they’re famous. Story of music today.

And just because they don’t do drugs and give to noble causes doesn’t automatically make them a good band. There are plenty of great bands out there who don’t do drugs. There are plenty of horrible bands who don’t do drugs as well. This is not about whether they’ve found a cure for cancer or not it’s about the music, which a lot of these “adoring fans” seem to not understand. Good people does not equal good band/music.

In conclusion, the definition of “good musician” you seem to be searching for is none of those things, it is somebody who knows their instrument, plays it well, and ALSO understands the art of music and does (or at least attempts) to do something different with it that makes it their own. That is what makes us grow. Inventing new things and creativity. Not the same old same old society mindset we have today.

At the same time, to even the scores a little, people need to stop bashing them with comments like “they suck” and not explain why. It makes all the people who dislike them look like arrogant assholes.

Peace

How the hell can the Jonas Brothers deserve to be on thr cover of Rolling Stone Magazine?!?! It almost makes me want to stop reading it! Their music, if you can even call it that, has no meaning or purpose, beyond commercial success and radio play. They have no real musical talent and they’re nothing special. 10 years from now no one is going to give a damn about them, most people probably won’t even remember them. Until you stop putting no-talent idiots in your magazine and get back to REAL MUSIC I’m not gonna read it. The Jonas Brothers aren’t even good enough to play crappy music, they’re not good enough to play music at all. Get back to BOB DYLAN and ARTISTS who don’t just sing songs so people will like them. Go back to REAL MUSIC and REAL TALENT!!!

WTF | 6/27/2009, 11:29 pm EST

JONAS BROTHERS???!!??
WTF!?!?!?
WHY! ?!??!?!

no talent whatsoever.

Alyssa N | 6/28/2009, 2:07 am EST

Rolling Stone, you have officially sold the fuck out.

Screw interviewing and putting musicians with ACTUAL talent on the cover of your so magazine (which is dedicated to covering rock & roll, correct?). Lets put POPULAR people on the cover and hope that our sales go up because preteens and childish young adults who have no idea what real rock & roll (and music in general) is will buy a copy.

Now all you need is a cover with Miley Cyrus on it, then your sales will REALLY be shooting through the roof.

D.F. | 6/28/2009, 2:09 am EST

ok so i just seen a comment on here and so what if the JONAS BROTHERS are on here serously is that any reason to stop reading this magazine..its pretty reatred if you ask me…you know im sure some of you ppl are a fan of Justin timber lake and what not what peopl dont realize is that he sarted out exactly where the jonas brothers are today!!!
maybe some of you should actually realize what you are saying and stop being critcs over all this stuff its just a magazine cover and article i mean jeezz grow up!

Alyssa N | 6/28/2009, 2:11 am EST

Oh and by the way, not all people look up to the Jonas Brothers. I’m 14, and I can’t stand them. And I hope that when people (like one of the bible-thumpers below) say that, “THEY HAVE A GIFT FROM GOD!!! JESUS YAY OMG!!!!!1!!” you look like an idiot.

ok so the jonas brother totally deserve this i mean come one they are more talented than alot of bands out there i mean they multiple instruments and they have great confidence they obviously dnt care what people think..i mean they are still going arent they???
if you dnt like them in the magaizine or on it dnt read it and the person…D.F. he or she has a really great piont rolling stone is a great magaizne i wouldn’t stop reading it if it had a band or person on it i didnt like id buy ot for the info it gives..but what i’m trying to say is these boys inspire ppl every day they help alot of ppl too and im one of those peopl i mean the jonas brothers are amazing guys and if some of oyu ppl would take the chance youd know that too, but i mean you judge them without even knowing them i understand not likeing their music but as ppl..as far as that goes you dnt even know them…i mean seeing them in the mall or what ever dosent count as knowing them so open you eyes and realize you can say what you want to about them but they dnt care what oyu think and your just wasteing you time talking about them so i mean its a waste of time and a waste of breath…so just relax its just a magizine cover…seriously!!!

BALLS. | 6/28/2009, 2:25 am EST

This is some serious chickenshit bullshit. I read through the other reviews and damn…any 40+ year old that has the balls to defend these fuckers must be half retarded. I’m sorry your daughter’s a slut that loves the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus and you can’t see that she’s a slut because she likes these “super innocent OMGOSH (not god, that’s a no no) PURITY RINGS!!!!” bands and that covers it up.

FUCK the Jonas Brothers and their shitty music. (I’ve listened to it, it sucks. Balls.)

FUCK Rolling Stone for being a sellout magazine.

And FUCK anyone who tries to defend them. Nothing you say can or will change our opinions. I commend South Park for making fun of Disney and these teeny bopper douchebags.

My musical suggestions? to all you JB lovers? Try Evanescence, or maybe even Marilyn Manson’s work from the 1990’s. Someone with real talent, not the Jonas Brothers, who don’t sing about anything meaningful.

Maybe it’ll scare some sense into you.

DDLDLFNJJ | 6/28/2009, 2:31 am EST

BTW who are calling them wWORTHLESS DISNEY STARS….they didnt get hteir start from disney

unlike justin timberlake, brittney spears, X-tina..etc, they actually were famous befor they signed with disney

but justin, britaney and whoever else i listed..disney made them who they are today…
and yeah do some research ppl and youll see they were famous before disney drug them into their effing cliche so just shut up about it..seriously!

Anonymous | 6/28/2009, 3:56 am EST

Omj.
The Jonas Brothers did it again!
I absolutley loved Lines, Vines, and Trying Times!
In Joe Jonas’ words. —-> “We don’t care what age group we attract. If you like our music fine. You don’t have to like our music”
:) Love them♥

Hayley P | 6/28/2009, 6:30 am EST

Hey:)
What is the point off unsubscribing from rolling stones because of one copy that has a band that you don’t like on it, its just patetic really!
I really like JB, and there lyrics have alot of meaning, and tell us so much about them, and what there like as guys!

every one that says to a JB fan ‘go and listen to some real music!’, I just think, what is the point off tell us to listen to the music that you listen to, because you all haven’t given JB a chance, and listened to there lyrics. You’ve probably listened to the 1st 2 beats of there song and switched it to another song!

Also about the whole Disney thing, just because JB are part of disney doesn’t automatically make them rubbish, you know!
Disney didn’t help them with writing there songs or anything, so please just stop saying its another Disney artist, because JB ain’t just another artist!

The interview was really good, Thankyou RS for letting them be on the cover for a 2nd time!:D
Lovee Hayley xx

Hayley P | 6/28/2009, 6:36 am EST

Another thing, every one who is commenting on wether or not they even play more than one instrument, they all do!
Kevin play Guitar, Keyboard, and Sings
Joe plays Guitar, Tamborine:P and Sings
While Nick plays Guitar, Drums, Lead Vocalist, and Piano.
so people before me saying they don’t even play any instruments, please get your facts straight, and do research before even commenting on the matter:D
Thanks for reading this:D:D
Lovee Hayley xx

Wanglu | 6/28/2009, 7:01 am EST

I like Jonas Brothers very much.and my MP4 are all their songs .They are great. By the way , Jonas Brothers are the Best!I am a huge fan of JB!I love you and Mily 4ever!

Taylor | 6/28/2009, 11:43 am EST

Wow!
What an honor!
Not once on the cover,
but TWICE!!!
I just recently saw them in concert! Let me tell you, it was the MOST amazing thing to see! Even not so obsessed fans would enjoy and appriciate the show!
I am so honored to call myself a fan of such amazing, grounded boys… Sorry, MEN!
Thank you guys for all you do! You mean the WORLD to me!!!!

PS: Your still not as cool as Jesus!!! ♥

MadelynJT | 6/28/2009, 2:32 pm EST

Wow. I just read this article because I bought this magazine. It’s amazing of course :) And I was reading the last few paragraphs and they were saying how they don’t need people to like their kind of music and they laugh also when people make fun of them. They’ve heard it all. They don’t really care. I commented earlier like 4 times. The names I used were AFI.Jonas.Saosin.MJT, Madelyn, and MadelynJT

I love the Jonas Brothers! Congratulations on making the RS cover again!

The Big B | 6/28/2009, 2:59 pm EST

I really tried to like them as performers and song writers. But it turns out that giant sucking sound that Ross Perot used to reference: It is the Jonas Brothers. Their new (s)”hit” song, both lyrically and musically is just bile inducing bad. They aptly prove that just making money and selling CDs does not make you a good band, good musicians or artists. Just more celebrity fluff. They should hang their promise rings on their (other) instruments and promise never to perform again.

The Big B | 6/28/2009, 3:03 pm EST

…Oh btw Hayley P: I have 2 words for u: SPELL CHECK (you might sound intelligent if you learn grammar and how to spell).

jackie | 6/28/2009, 5:58 pm EST

yay
im so happy for them

Omj? | 6/28/2009, 9:50 pm EST

Is that supposed to fucking mean “Oh my Jonas?”
Goddamn, who the hell seriously SAYS that?

Grow up.

trobs | 6/29/2009, 1:13 pm EST

I think it is funny that he would say “We don’t need you to like our music”

Of course you need us to like your music, if no one likes your music, you disappear off the radar.

They are obviously striving for something whether it is fame, or credibility, the fact is they want to be known.

It really makes them sound like self entitled morons when they make comments like that.

SunShine | 6/29/2009, 1:49 pm EST

So they made the cover twice. Big deal. Rolling Stone Magazine knows when to cash in on somebody popular. They know that Jonas Brothers fans will buy a ton of these mags. I am not a Jonas fan, but “Paronoid” is the most descent song I have heard from them so far.

MadelynJT | 6/29/2009, 2:12 pm EST

No. They make music because they love to. Not to be famous. They just happen to be famous. Actually I don’t know how to put it, but they want to sell albums and stuff, but they don’t need sooo many people to like them. They’re surprised that so many people like them now. They love their fans. People who hate the Jonas Brothers don’t know them. They just think they are some boys who are associated with Disney. They think that they can’t make music and can’t play intruments. And just because they have a back up band doesn’t mean they suck either.

Anonymous | 6/29/2009, 2:45 pm EST

Wow,the Jonas Brothers…again. What, was Miley Cyrus unavailable? Come on Rolling Stone, put some real rock legends on the cover. People who are actually changing the face of music, not recreating some cookie cutter popstar stuff. I’m 14 years old, and I don’t like them. I like the classics, The Stones, Ramones. But Jonas Brothers? When did this become another magazine desinged for 12 year olds? I love Rolling Stone, but it’s stuff like this that makes me not want to read it anymore. By the way, BOYS TO MEN???? They are 16, 19, and 21 years olds who still sell themselves out for Disney Channel. Their show isn’t even funny! They can’t act. They want to be in the entertainment business, then they should really stick to music because the show is straight up crap.

Anonymous | 6/29/2009, 2:58 pm EST

Ugh Rolling Stone, why do you do this??? Really, the Jonas Brothers, really? I think they’re total hypocrites! They say they’re virgins and that they’re really pure and what not, but they’re dumping girls here and there for other disney sluts (Miley Cyrus). They think they’re so hot and they think they’re music genuises. Rolling Stone did you really have to encourage this? Geez. I guess your next issue is going to focus on how faithfull to the lord Miley Cyrus is.

tom | 6/29/2009, 3:51 pm EST

first lady gaga, then that American Idol reject, now the fucking Jonas Brothers? Rolling Stone, there are millions of bands that have more talent than any of these talentless hacks. Do your homework!

Idiots. | 6/29/2009, 6:09 pm EST

To all you jackasses that think the Jonas Brothers don’t have talent, consider a few years ago… they don’t let people with no talent sing on BROADWAY.

Hahah, assholes.

wouldn't you like to know | 6/29/2009, 6:27 pm EST

Honestly i love the jonas brothers. i may be sixteen and obsessed but i could care less. i love their music and they are a very talented BAND! i have been to three going on four concerts and i know im gonna go to alot more (:

Corinna | 6/29/2009, 9:06 pm EST

Thank you for putting The Jonas Brothers on the cover again Rolling Stone.
They are real muscians, great guys and deserve to be taken seriousley.
They have so much more Talent than people think and wont be fading away anytime soon.
I’m 15 years old and I Love all types of music. I’m a huge fan of The Jonas Brothers. So is my Friend, 16. And my Mom, 48.
And to all you who say they “suck” or are “horrible” need to find a better way to spend your time then trashing a Band that you know nothing about. Do you have their CD? Have you been to any of their concerts? Do you know their story to fame? No. You don’t.
So get over yourselfs.
It’s sad how close-minded people are of everything. I’m open minded but know what I like and know why I like it and what I look for.
I look for people with talent…a sound that I like…and good people.

Thank you again for putting them on the covcer for the second time.

Cretin Dilettante | 6/29/2009, 10:01 pm EST

These guys make me rage so hard… They’re like the most successful trolls in the music industry. For kids that don’t really play instruments well, they sure have made a name for themselves… I wish I were pretty enough to get famous for doing nothing…

Toolhead | 6/29/2009, 10:37 pm EST

Okay, I’m noticing a lot of repeated comments from these Jonas Brothers fans. Here are the top 5:

#1 (my favorite): “They’re so hot!” – Yeah, and that’s what makes a good musician (to slutty teenage girls, maybe).

#2: “They play their own instruments!” – Wow. Big fucking whoop. As opposed to WHAT??? The other shitty groups you people listen to? (Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears)

#3: “They play MULTIPLE instruments!” – Again, big fucking whoop. So what? So can I, so can maybe half the people commenting on this page. Doesn’t mean they’re good musicians.

#4: “They write their own songs, not Disney!” – While their songs being actually written by Disney would make them even worse, that still doesn’t prove they’re a good band that they aren’t. They still sold themselves to Disney, which doesn’t bode well for their legitimacy or their dignity.

#5: “They don’t do drugs/they have good morals, etc.” – That’s dandy. So does Miley Cyrus, right? Oh, wait, no, turns out she poses nude. Yeah, again, not saying anything.

Seriously, all these people have no actual taste in music. It’s just a bunch of teenage bitches slamming on hot guys (see “wouldn’t you like to know”’s comment for a good example).

Jodi | 6/29/2009, 10:41 pm EST

jealousy much ? loser

Toolhead | 6/29/2009, 10:53 pm EST

Jodi:

…And hello to yet another sex-driven groupie.

Oh, fuck yeah, I’m so jealous of this band. I want to be plastered all over Disney channel (the biggest disgrace to what once was a genius franchise ever), be hounded by paparazzi (which Rolling Stone is practically becoming at this point) play shitty sell-out music, and have slutty groupies hang all over me. Yeah, dream life.

PLEASE, people, go back to the Beatles and Pink Floyd and stuff like that that has artistic SUBSTANCE, and stop praising these idols!!!!

Wow | 6/30/2009, 12:16 am EST

Love them . come out again is the best decision ever

Haah. Yes, I wish the Jonas Brothers would “come out”.

Yeah and the JB like totally like wrote the song “Hello Goodbye” and like the Beatles like totally stole it…damnnit that good original music!!

A mom in tow | 6/30/2009, 10:24 am EST

I just took my daughters to see the Jonas on Sunday at the Tacoma Dome. If they are sincere about wanting to make this jump, I would say they desperately need to step it up a notch. This was the most low energy show I have ever seen. I have seen 45 year old men on stage with more energy. Perhaps they were tired? But it really seemed like they were just going through the motions. The only energy of the night was when Jordan Sparks came out to sign with them. I saw them as burnt out teen stars and was quite surprised to read this.

A JB fan | 6/30/2009, 12:31 pm EST

First of all, to all you who say that the JB have no talent….you are undenyably wrong. They have LOTS of talent. So what if you can play an instrument?! The JB can play from MEMORY. I am a pianist and know that that is no easy feat. If they did not have talent, they would not be where they are today. Some of you will say it is just because of us, the fans, but that is not the case. In order to be in broadway or to even be CONSIDERED for a record deal, you must have natural born talent, which all three of these boys posses. Who are you to have the audacity to say who has talent and who does not? You are not a record producer, so CAN IT! I for one, would like to see what you believe is talented….HMPFH! They are among one of the few groups that have been pictured twice on the front of Rolling Stone and I am proud of them. Well, what can I say? With every sucess comes a bunch of haters who talk rudley about people that they obviously know NOTHING about. Don’t Change Rolling Stone. You are doing a great job! The Jonas brothers are great guys and are talented and you would realize that too if you just took the time to actually MEET THEM and TALK TO THEM ON A REGULAR BASIS! Oh and not all fans are tweens or preteens. I am 18 and I love the JB. Tsk, tsk, tsk….today’s society is so stereotypical. That’s ok, because usually people that down other people never go far in their lives and only cause the person on the other end of the spectrum to go farther. (EX: Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton etc.) So go ahead. Criticize them….because in the end, they will have the last laugh. :) LOVE YOU JB!

music lover | 6/30/2009, 7:18 pm EST

i think that it is very steriotipical to think that if we like them, we dont have good taste in music! jonas brothers in my top five fav but also up there with the eagles, beatles…etc. so i dont know why people are so judgemental, so what if there a band out there you dont like, dont listen to them , do they make you liten to them, no, if you dont like them just dont listen! its stupid to think there are people being judged out there because of what music they like! music is spost to be a fun out lit where people can dance and not be afraid to sing what they feel, and it still should be. music means alot to me, so all of you “music lovers” should just except that your not going to like every band, and you dont have to. jb fans dont go around telling you you suck cuz u dont like them ,so please dont tell us we do because we like them. as long as there are fans and the band feels they would like to continue there going to, so why make a big deal out of it, its just another band, and they play for people who want to listen, not those who dont. so please, just respect music, you dont have to diss music, cuz if your a music lover, youll respect all diversitys of music….
i love jb

Men have sex; boys wear purity | 6/30/2009, 8:20 pm EST

Rolling Stone, men have sex and boys don’t. The “JoBros” don’t have sex…they wear purity rings, so tell me what makes them men?

Men aren't virgins...boys are! | 6/30/2009, 8:26 pm EST

HA! I completely agree with the post below. How on earth are virgins labeled as men? Do you know how hard I’m laughing right now?

Heather | 6/30/2009, 9:15 pm EST

WOOT WOOT!! JONAS BROTHERS MAKE IT ON AGAIN!!! i love them soooo much!! and i love the fact that all the jonas brothers haters are pissed off now. and spending the time to dis the jonas brothers when the should be seeking help from a shrink about their insecurites. you dint see us jonas brothers fns dissing when a band or person makes it on the cover that we dont like!! thats because we are CARING and RESPECTFULL for every musician or artists out their!!! maybe you should follow our lead!

CONGRATS JB ON MAKING IT ON THE COVER AGAINNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!

Jonas Brothers = Insperation | 6/30/2009, 10:18 pm EST

ok wat some people are saying is completely false. Just because u have sex doesn’t make u a ‘man’ They are men because they know when to say no. They know sex isn’t a game and are smart about it. It takes real men to do what they do, they don’t want to get a girl pregnet and ruin both of their lives. Boys are the ones who jump into bed and leave the next morning. They are above that. They are men.

Never to become classic | 6/30/2009, 10:24 pm EST

Seeing the Jonas Brothers up on the cover of the Rolling Stone is disgraceful, it puts shame to this magazine. This cover is Green Day meets Disney, it should never happen – Ever.

ilovejb | 7/1/2009, 1:24 am EST

they r really good musicians and people. and people dont have to like them i know many people dont my best friend doesnt like them and fine whatever but they all play there own instruments and write all of there songs and sing live and they dont lip synch and just cause they were purity rings doesnt make them lyk weird…they respect women a lot more then other guys do and they give back millons of dollers each yr to there charites and meet fans all the time. they just care if there fans love them and they have millons around the world. why do u haters even bother? u have nothing better to do. jb deserves there 2nd cover they work rly hard and dont get the credit they deserve…..i will always be a jonas brother fan!

HM | 7/1/2009, 2:22 am EST

Just because the Jonas Brothers made the cover it doesn’t give you the right to diss them. I think they are great, others don’t. That doesn’t mean I’m going to go around using every swear word in the book to say everyone who doesn’t agree with me is stupid or whatever else. You may not like them but they are still people. They don’t deserve all the garbage you give them. Get a bigger vocabulary people, swear words are ignored by most so your point isn’t making it across.
If RS wants to use the JB to make some cash let them, it isn’t hurting anyone.

jbfan1991 | 7/1/2009, 3:30 am EST

Congrats jonas on making the cover again! the jonas brothers are very talented and are the best out there is. just because they wear purity rings doesnt mean anything. The music is awesome and i love the new album. i mean everyone is entittled to their opinions but really if you are going to dis the jonas bro’s then you really shouldnt say anything at all. i agree with them you dont have to listen to them or like their music. they deserve a lot of respect and they have worked hard for everything they recieve! Keep up the great work guys!

seriously everyone? | 7/1/2009, 3:31 am EST

all u people commenting on how much they suck..have u actually listened to them, prolly not, and if u have prolly one or two songs and to let u kno.. listening to one or two songs of the jonas brothers is not finding out if u like them or not. listening to a whole album or a variation of songs they have done, that is finding out if u like..if u do that and still find out u dont like them, then fine, u dont have to, but stop judging them and saying things u prolly dont kno is true.

they have a back-up band bc there is 3 of them, they cant play every instrument while performing..[[bass, drums, guitar, piano, ect] that 4 instruments right there, already to many.
kevin plays an instrument the ENTIRE show whether it be guitar, acoustic, or piano[[turn right]] hes playing it along with back up vocals.

Katy | 7/1/2009, 3:36 am EST

I haven’t been able to read the comments from the pro-jonas side of this conversation because I can’t understand a word of it. Grammer really isn’t that important, but spelling really is. It backs up the fact that they are a tween band with uneducated followers. If these fucks are trying to be “rock ‘n’ roll” and gain more credibility, they should try being bad. Real rock ‘n’ roll is about drugs and sex….there’s no way around it. It’s how it started and how it should be. Jonas Brothers, keep doing what you’re doing….but stop trying to be what you clearly aren’t.

algomajoker | 7/1/2009, 8:14 am EST

Why does RS give these stories to fans to write? Christian Hoard would never have written such syrupy pap.

Jeff | 7/1/2009, 1:15 pm EST

The negativity of those who hate the Jonas Brothers is pathetic and disgusting. Grow up and get a life. And to answer the question “What makes them men?”, it is something called RESPONSIBILITY!

Toolhead | 7/1/2009, 2:34 pm EST

A few more interesting comments from some of these pro-Jonas’s… (specifically from someone who ironically titled his post “A JB fan.”

“So what if you can play an instrument?! The JB can play from MEMORY.” – Well, that’s dandy. I’d have to say it would be a pretty boring show if they were reading everything off of sheet music. Every fucking rock band has their own songs memorized. Even the ones that suck.

“If they did not have talent, they would not be where they are today.” – I don’t know where you’ve been, but considering this down-the-shit-hole music industry, it’s quite possible their songs could all follow the exact same chord progression AND all be about the same thing and they would still be famous. Just because they’re popular doesn’t mean they’re good.

“to even be CONSIDERED for a record deal, you must have natural born talent, which all three of these boys posses.” – Like I said above, with the current music industry, you don’t need talent, you just need to let the record label puppet-master you through your every move to achieve maximum success, but therefore take all the soul out of your songs.

“Who are you to have the audacity to say who has talent and who does not? You are not a record producer, so CAN IT!” – Oh, okay, and you ARE?..

“I for one, would like to see what you believe is talented….HMPFH!” – Finally, a fan ASKING for my opinion. For starters, I would look up the Beatles, because they’re essentially the group these guys are trying to copy. Listen to the SGT. PEPPER album. THAT is what I mean by creativity. Then I’d listen to some Pink Floyd, Rush, Radiohead, even some Tool. Watch some live concerts of these guys and THEN tell me who is talented. Nice immature “HUMPH!” by the way, who says that?

“…if you just took the time to actually MEET THEM and TALK TO THEM ON A REGULAR BASIS!” – Wow… who ARE you?.. these damn groupies…

“Oh and not all fans are tweens or preteens. I am 18 and I love the JB.” – Yeah, big difference. Preteens, teens, they’re not THAT different, really. I see plenty of teens who like them too. A fan is a fan.

“:) LOVE YOU JB!” Holy shit, do all these fans end the same way???

Oh, and by the way, I agree with Katy, lirn the fuk how 2 fukng speel. Pees.

Toolhead | 7/1/2009, 2:51 pm EST

By the way, I play multiple instruments and am a professional drummer (I’m on CD’s), I think I know what I’m talking about when I say they are nothing special and even quite bad. Even if they can play, they can still have bad music. (Slayer comes readily to mind…)

Rock-n-roller? | 7/1/2009, 3:06 pm EST

Have sex, then we’ll call you rock-n-rollers…NOT. You’re still teen pop, and it’s no use trying to have RS label you as “boys to men,” because men have sex, and boys are 16, 19, 21. You don’t call teenagers or a 21-year-old… men.

RE: Jeff | 7/1/2009, 3:19 pm EST

“Grow up and get a life.” We all know you’re the one that needs to grow up, you little teenage mouth. Not all of us on here are “OMG! like 14 yr olds.” And “responsibility?” What have they been responsible for in their 21 years of life… (and that’s only the oldest). Dropping out of high school isn’t being responsible. They don’t even have equivalent diplomas; they’re 16, 19, and 21. They aren’t men, they aren’t “responsible,” and they aren’t “rock-n-rollers.” They haven’t even had sex yet! They’re still boys living with their parents. Try again Jeff.

We'll stop criticizing... | 7/1/2009, 3:30 pm EST

If you stick to teen pop. People in that genre won’t criticize you because they’re probably under 18. But if you want to become a “rock-n-roller” and play with the big dogs, get used to all the criticism and tell your underage fans that everybody has a right to an opinion, just like them, so when they say “OMG like stop hatin…” it makes us laugh.

RE: A JB fan | 7/1/2009, 3:41 pm EST

You don’t have to have natural born talent to get a record deal. Look at Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears…you just have to want fame bad enough to let Disney/Hollywood Records transform you into a teen pop “star.” When in reality, they can’t sing live to save their lives, and their recordings are heavily edited so much so that my coworkers and I turn off the radio when we hear their songs. It’s sad to see that RS used to be a magazine for us, and not it’s for a bunch of 15 yr olds (if we’re lucky). I can’t believe I’m commenting on a post with minors.

Re: Re: Jeff | 7/1/2009, 5:58 pm EST

“Dropping out of high school isn’t being responsible.”

Actually, they’ve all graduated from high school.

A Girl | 7/2/2009, 12:02 am EST

Woooow…
Really?
Has it come to this?
Can’t they at least find some undrground rock groups?
Or are they just that lazy?

I was about to get a subscription, but screw it!
If all I get is crappy teeny-bopper bands that I’m forced to hear about at school, then I don’t need it.

They’re not even that good-looking!

When I see a Beatle on the cover is the day I’ll subscribe.

What ever happened to talent?

innocent bystander. | 7/2/2009, 12:52 am EST

“We’re doing it because we love it, and we don’t care what age group we attract. If they like our music, they like our music, and if they don’t, fine. We don’t need you like our music.”

I think that’s an important statment for them to make. I think the fact that they make music because they love it, not because it earns them respect will benefit them in time. And, in the end, possibly earn them the respect. Maybe a very, very long time from now, but still.

I suppose because I neither hate nor love the jonas brothers, I don’t understand either side of these comments.

They aren’t the beatles, that’s for sure. But come on, like there could ever be a band to compare to them. And dissing them because they are virgins? That’s just a low blow.(that was possibly a bad choice of words, oh well)

Again, they aren’t the beatles. They aren’t God’s gift to earth. And they aren’t a few peices of eye candy. They are musicians, who, in my opinion, still haven’t really made a name for themselves. I’m not saying that if you ask people if they know who the jonas brothers are they will say no. I’m saying that once they have completely departed from disney and all other labels that people associate them with, then we will see what this band is really made of.

Also, I do agree that rolling stone should probably start doing a little more pavement pounding. Seems a little too soon to be doing repeats.

Also, please stop spelling like a six year old, unless you are in fact six.

Jeff | 7/2/2009, 1:42 am EST

Since when does the ability to have sex make one responsible? When I called the Jonas Brothers responsible I was refering to their decision to wait until they get married. Having sex does not make you a man. Rutting like bitch in heat is nothing more than the mindless gratification of biological urges. And finally I am not 14 years old, I am 38. I have more knowledge and experience than you will ever have. Did you recently have a frontal lobotomy or were you born this stupid?

A Jonas Fan | 7/2/2009, 11:18 am EST

Look, I don’t understand why people constanly have to try to bring them down for the type of music that they write/sing, and for being virgins. Having sex does not make you a man, and I am discusted that so many reviewers think that it does. If anything, I think that choosing to wait made these boys even more mature, because it takes real dedication to do so.

And, like they said in their interview, “We’re doing it because we love it, and we don’t care what age group we attract. If they like our music, they like our music, and if they don’t, fine. We don’t need you like our music.”. Obviously they don’t care if you hate them, or call them gay. If those of you who hate them are so mature, why do you feel the need to post hateful things about them?

Honestly, I’m 17 and know better than some of you “grown up” people.

Jane | 7/2/2009, 12:06 pm EST

“It’s pretty rock and roll. It’s getting banged up a little bit because of the guitar.”-Kevin Jonas

That statement is one of the many reasons why real music lovers have a problem with the Jonas Brothers. Talking about a purity ring and rock ‘n’ roll in the same sentence is extremely laughable. Those stupid little purity rings are not rock ‘n’ roll. You know what is? Donita Sparks of L7 pulling out a bloody tampon at a show and throwing it into the crowd. Gross? Definitely. Shocking? Absolutely! Rock music is supposed to be shocking. It’s considered “the devil’s music” by some for a reason. It’s dangerous and it’s exciting. There’s nothing dangerous about the Jonas Brothers. Nothing.

hmm... | 7/2/2009, 10:59 pm EST

It’s all about the music. I don’t see why people are so focused on their personal decisions. They worked hard. They are talented and unlike alot of the shitty music these days, they actually create alot of their own sound and incorporate influence from alot of people they look look up to. It’s not “trying to be someone else.” It’s actually being inspired by those musicians. I like the Jonas brothers and although I’m only 17, i have great taste in music including the beatles, pink floyd, led zeppelin, and more classic rock thanks to my dad. So the “stereo-type” of Jonas brothers fans…WRONG!

Everyone has their opinion and here’s mine so I hope that some 40 year old man doesn’t call out a 17 year old :)

God. | 7/3/2009, 12:25 am EST

Are the Jonas Brothers completely fucking retarded? “We don’t need you to like our music.”
Okay, then I suppose you don’t need people to buy your CDs then either.
Without people liking your music, where the fuck would you be, exactly? I mean it’s commonly known that that’s how the Disney Channel works, not having fans and all, but really? What a smart, clever thing to say to your haters, Kevin Jonas.

Majo | 7/6/2009, 12:09 pm EST

THEY ARE SOO HOT LOVE U JONAS BROTHERS!!!!!!!!! DO MORE PHOTOSHOOTS U GUYS CAME OUT SEXYYY

Sarah. | 7/7/2009, 12:46 am EST

Sorry but why on earth would you want another band to fulfill the sex and drugs stereotype of rock and roll. Rock and roll is a music genre not a lifestyle choice. Why would you want another band to create bad examples for children? The Jonas Brothers are great role models and because of them children are choosing to stay away from alcohol and drugs. Maybe their choice to abstaine from sex isn’t liked by everyone but it is their choice. Not yours. So who are you to judge their choices? Their music may not fall under your idea of ‘real music’ but thats no reason to talk crap on websites like this. If you hate their music so much then stop wasting your time reading about them.. go read about the bands you like..

someone | 7/7/2009, 1:02 am EST

in the actual article they were saying how the way Joe said the whole “we don’t need you to like our music” they said he said it kind of defensively. i just dont like how he’s changed.

Lori | 7/8/2009, 5:01 pm EST

I can’t believe I’m actually posting this, but here it goes:

I am well into my thirties. I have a vinyl collection that most would be highly jealous of, and I have seen some of the most incredible artists in concert (Paul McCartney, The Police, The Rolling Stones, to name a few), but I actually think there is something to the Jonas Brothers.
The Beatles they are not, but I also don’t feel as though they should be written off as the “Boy Band of the Week.”

Unlike past boy bands (NKOTB, Backstreet Boys, N’SYNC, etc.), the Jonas’ actually write all of their own music and play their own instruments. Nick, who is only 16, is by far the most impressive. I bought their album for my daughter and when I was looking through the little booklet that comes with it I noticed that he played guitar, drums, piano, glockenspiel, keyboard and sang lead vocals on the majority of the album (I should also point out that two of the songs were written by him alone). I also find it impressive that they perform their instruments in concert and they do not sing to a back up track. These seem to be rare finds in current artists that are under that much public scrutiny. I am more than happy to take my daughter to see them again (I took her last year to see them as well).

They are quite an impressive group of young men, yes, men, and I feel as though they should be treated as such. So lets just give them their moment and see if they can stay afloat after they jump the Disney ship. That’s the true test of their musical credibility and then we’ll see whose right, RS or you self proclaimed “musical purists”.

G-Rod | 7/8/2009, 8:22 pm EST

I’ve never given this band a second thought as of now they are a passing fad in my eyes unless they come up with something original that doesn’t sound like recycled pop. The question is how long will they last? Not to mention the Beatle comparisons irritate the hell out of me but in the end who CARES so they are in cover. Rolling Stone has lost it’s credibility a long time ago, for a magazine that had people from The Hills in their cover this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Anonymous | 7/11/2009, 7:01 pm EST

Hey Sarah, If the Jonas Brotherswant to live a rockstar life, let them. If parents raise their children with good morals, just because a famous band is drinkin and doing drugs, it doesn’t mean they have to do it to. They’ve got a brain they can use. Don’t underestimate them.

I love rock (especially Guns N’ Roses) but I’m don’t drink or do drugs nor have I ever because it’s my choice. It’s a little something known as freewill.

Good for the Jonas Brothers. I hope they go far with their music.

DontHateOnJonas | 7/12/2009, 11:04 pm EST

just because they make money and can keep a promise doesnt mean u have to hate them and OMMMMG atop hating just ignore them if u dont like them ! so shut the fuck up and get a life and go listen to your rap or whatever u listen to cause i’m sure it’s soooooooooooooo much better than abstinence yeah u little whore music and banging everybody and drug abuse crap

P.S. Go f yourself OH thats right u already tried thank you have a nice day!

Shiloh P | 7/15/2009, 3:50 am EST

I think all the old rockers and stuff like that need to lay off, the Jonas Brothers arent a bad band. I have seen them in concert and they really arent bad. I listened to there new CD online and it sounds better than I wanna get laid old rockers so they still have a little pop but there growing out of it into real rockers. I love the Jonas Brothers!

chelsea | 7/16/2009, 2:29 am EST

dear “basser”
“How are Jonas Brothers a “band”? Aren’t they a “group” (which brother plays drums or bass? None). ”

nick plays the guitar (as they all do), drums, and piano so shut up
they all have great talent nd i think they will make it

Anonymous | 7/16/2009, 2:43 am EST

“RS, congrats, you’ve managed to dissapoint again. Why don’t you cover REAL music, artists who ACTUALLY write their own music, and have EARNED their place instead of payed for it.”

they have always written ALL their songs, they perform well live, play various instruments, and they HAVE earned their place, they werent always with disney, they made their way there and now i am positive they will move on to rock and roll

Ryoko | 7/16/2009, 2:43 pm EST

Haha I find it hilarious that a majority of you argue over the Jonas Brothers. Either you like them or you don’t. Some people consider them a group, others, a band.

Anyways, in this day and age, it’s hard major to actually find some talent. Usually now, people become famous just because they’re hot. I admit that the Jonas Brothers are hot, but they have more talent then most groups/bands/whatever these days.

So you might like them, you might not. And why cancel your subscription? I mean, this is their second time on the cover, yes, but what if some group/band/whatever comes up on the cover and you like them? Then that’s just your thought. And then someone else would be complaining over them. Resulting in you defending the group/band/whatever.

So if you don’t like them, oh well. That’s your problem. Geezews…you might not consider the Jonas Brothers as “Rock”, but they are a great group/band/whatever that inspires many. So degrade them or support them, your choice….geezews..

Cap'n Pants | 7/16/2009, 4:34 pm EST

Call it what it is.
A tween targeted cash grab and a waste of a double issue to boot.

Since the format change Rolling Stone seems to be having an identity crisis.

Between American Idol, the Hot Issue and the Sasha Grey and Gossip Girl articles it doesn’t know if it wants to be Tiger Beat, Entertainment Weekly, or Maxim.

rockman | 7/16/2009, 5:06 pm EST

The Jonas Brothers need to expand to real rock n roll before I respect them. What also seperates them from rock is that many of the top rock artists worked their way to the tp, such as ACDC, Aerosmith ,Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, The Ramones, etc. The Jonas Bros were practically handed it by the disney channel. Not to say that they don’t work hard, but it came way easier for them and they really are not as mind blowing or great as people make them out to be. Kids and youth these days just listen to them and don’t bother to listen to the classic and good stuff. They need to get away from the Disney Channel and make GOOD MUSIC!! And just watch-they might get fucked up like the Carter boys once they leave Disney Channel and have no backing. And 20 years from now, they will probably just be one of those “hey do you remember?” bands like the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC

the truth so realize it | 7/16/2009, 11:11 pm EST

ok i’m going to through this out there. Do any guys like them? NO! NOT ONE guy on earth likes them. You know why because they cant get a cross gender appeal. They can play their instrument well but, really 20 years from now will you still be going to their concerts probably not. You’re probably are going to eventually outgrow their music and realize they are or were coporate sell.Oh, and their music isn’t rock it still is teen pop because i actually listened to some of their songs and it deinately isn’t rock.In order to get my respect the jonas brothers are going to have to change their name and completely change their sound. They don’t have to write about sex and drugs they just need to change their sound and lose the purity rings. Maybe then I’ll try to respect them.

amoudhfyre | 7/20/2009, 12:19 pm EST

hey well i am a jb #1 super jonas fan :) :) lol

KatyWells | 7/20/2009, 5:04 pm EST

The Jonas Brothers are amazing men and u’d be lucky to find anyone like them anymore! They are great role models and if they wrote about Stupid stuff they would not be who they r today. and when u write music it is about wat u want and feel no matter wat other people say! Nick Kevin and Joe never gave up on their dream no matter wat and they write their own music and play lots of instruments and actually care about the real world unlike mily cyrus who is the worst “role Model” Ever! Anyway anyone who wants to hate on the jonas brothers need to think and if they had half a brain they would know the jonas brothers and all the work they have put into their career!and know not to judge a book by its cover!

njonasfan | 7/21/2009, 2:50 pm EST

I will honestly admit that I LOVE the Jonas Brothers. And I do think that their music has grown a ton since their past albums. The boys themselves know what it will take to make this leap, but when you hear the name “Jonas Brothers” it does not sound like a hugley serious group. The leap could potientially force changes of the name, or something else to help them seem more serious. But their music, that is already better than “good enough”.

Anon | 7/22/2009, 1:58 pm EST

If they want to be taken seriously they need to go “screw Disney, screw our prepubescent fanbase, screw Billboard, let’s do our own thing for a while.” Really, regardless of their music if they just stop doing whatever the people managing them want I’ll respect them a hell lot more.

Look at the people in bands like Pearl Jam and Iron Maiden, they don’t glorify sex/drugs/all that stuff you parents dislike without being corporate sellouts.

Speaking of which I’d really like to talk to the Jonas Bros, just to see what they think about all that.

Cecelia | 7/29/2009, 6:37 pm EST

For the love of God, Nick, ditch the brothers and go solo.

jb forever | 7/30/2009, 11:21 am EST

guys, if you don’t like them… you don’t like them… but don’t say crap that isn’t true… you have to admit that they are talented or they never would’ve come this far… you have to admit that they write their own songs cause they do. it’s a fact, not a myth… you don’t have to like them but give credit where it is due

I was writing a really long comment on how RS is going downhill, but then it came to my mind, that SEEING the Jonas Brothers on the cover, TWICE, just says more about Rolling Stone magazine than words can say.

The first RS copy i bought was RS#1082, it will be my very last too.

Jake R | 8/17/2009, 10:24 pm EST

Alright, i have a love of all music from GOOD rock like zeppelin and other greats to folk and even some hip-hop. and i would just like to say that the people that have been making fun of there life choices are stupid. it’s about the music not there lifestlyes or how they live their life. Sure they were purity rings and have a goody-good image but so what? People need to start paying attention to what really matters here. THE MUSIC

I would also like to say that there music is not rock it is pop rock and they are indeed sell-outs
and the only reason that they are famous at all is because they are on the disney channel. Think about it, there are bands with guys more talented and better-looking and are going nowhere. Those are also the people that aren’t sell outs.

These boys have yet to make any good music that i will respect, and believe me i have tried to like there music, i have sat down and tried to lie to myslef trying to convince myself that they are good to see what it is that people see in them but even i can’t pull off a lie that big. But those of you who are old enough to remember
will remember that the beatles were a sell-out boy band in there early days before they starting composing the music that they are remebered and respected for now.

I think theses guys have potential,
someone just needs to steer them in the right direction and we just have to wait and see if they have what it takes to jump the disney ship and become credible musical artists.

So in the meantime pull up a chair and crack open a beer. who knows?
you might just get a few laughs out of it, i know i will

a person? | 8/21/2009, 8:38 pm EST

I was sitting here reading every comment left on this page, and i cannot comprehend exactly why men in their 30’s and 40’s are leaving pathetic and hateful comments on a band they don’t even like.
I am a 14 year old girl, and i am a jonas brothers fan. does than automatially mean that i have bad spelling? No. Does that mean you should assume that i am in love with them? No. Does that mean that i’m some short little girl who would sream if she saw them? NO. And does that mean that i do not have a wide array of musical interests? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I’ve grown to detest all of the assumptons made about us jonas brothers fans. We are not all preppy little girls who say OMG. As a matter of fact, i have never once used the retared abbreviation. and im not freaking retarded, i’m in honors courses and i still maintain a 3.5 gpa, for hose of you saying us teenagers are stupi. THINK AGAIN. Although some of their fans do believe that they actually love and are going to marry one of the boys, that does not mean all of us do. Of course, we like them as people, but at least i’m not immature enough to think i know what love is and believe i am actually in love with someone i’ve never held a conversation with. And for all of you saying that their fans should listen to real rock, I DO. I love led zepplin, acdc, the rolling stones, kiss, motley crew, guns’n'rosees, ect. But strangely enough, ive heard all of the beatles’ albums and did not like a single song. Can any of you idiots guess why? because i have an OPINION. i prefer diferent types of music than you do. and its most likely becaus i am from a different generation. am i the only one who understands that each generation will like their own kind of music? of course, there are the occasional people who listen to nearly everything, but for the most part, we will like the newer music. that’s just the way things are and the ay they’ll always be. The beatles were YOUR jonas brothers, and we’ll be telling our daughters and sons about the jonas broters, and they won’t even dare to listen to it. the cycle will repeat on and on like that for all time.
now, to touch the subject of rock’n'roll. i agree, the jonas brthers are not rock’n'roll. but they are a different kind of music, something called pop rock, idiots. since when did they EVER claim to be ‘rockstars’? they generalize their sound as power-pop, and alternative pop rock. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. And just because rock’n'roll is music from a few decades back, that does not make it real music. you know makes real music? people who write their own songs, and play their own instruents, and can play every night and not get tired. and not to mention that they LOVE what they do. they’re not doing it for YOUR enjoyment, they’re doing it becaus it is what they’ve always dreamed of. and you cant say they don’t do all of those things. now for the subect of their person choices, my favrite to discuss. having sex does NOT make you a man, having respect for the opposite sex does. and these boys posess the ability to control their hormones unlike you horny little bastards. That is something that is important to them personally, and did you ever think that maye they don’t WANT to have sex yet, and its not just to be a good role model? i’ve felt that way since i learned how babies were made, and i’ not doing that to be considered a holy person or because of my religion. i’ abstinent because thats the kind of person i am. i don’t feel comfortable having sex in a teeanage or adlt relationship with a n extremely high chance of it nt working out. and i don’t ant to go around giving eople stds or getting pregnant. and don’t have to worry about being used for sex, unlike some stupid skanks. and i don’t drink because that rins people’s lives. for examle, john bonham the drummer from led zepellin. he died shoking on his his own vomit because he so so extremely drunk. and i actually know the technically term for it, pulminary edima. look it up, if you don’t think a teenage jonas brothers fan can be that smart. and you know what? That wass the biggest waste of talent i have ever seen. he was my favorite drummer o all time, and then he died because of alcohol so at least the jonas brothers are smart enough to not die unlike ‘real rockers’ as you call them. and drug kill you too, if you havent noticed and smoking, the same. Maybe it’s actually a matter of wanting to live, because it sure seems like all the other rockstars wanted to die, considering they made all of the choices causing it. And now for the diney cookie-cutter pop accusations. by o means are the jonas brothers plain cookie-cutter pop, that’s hannah montanna, not kevin nick and joe. Before disney ever came alon, they released an album with columbia records called it’s about ime, and oe of those songs made it to a number one spot. and then guesss what happened they got dropped, and they stpped releasing the cd, which is now worth around $300, at LEAST, on ebay. and then guess what? disney offered them a record deal, and of urse they took it. disney didnt make them be anything they weren’t, they let them b be the good behaved guys they are, and that’s why they’ve stuck with disney. and just to prove disney didnt make them famous completely, i’ll tell you i’ve been a fan since i first heard mandy, back in the 2005 2006 period of time, BEFORE disney. HONEST. and if you still think they’re plain cookie cutter pop, listen to the songs off their new album, hey baby, much better, don’t speak. i can guarantee that yo have nEVer heard anything like that on disney, because they’re not typical disney band, theyre music is as daring as it gets these days, and you know it. they’re influences are people like the beegees, niel diamond, elvis costello, prince, johnny cash, the zutons, and k.o.l. and that is NOT cookie cutter crap. those people made a name for themselves, nd that’s why the jobros look up to them. and lastly, the reasoning behind most of their fans love of their songs is the LYRICS. the lyrics are such beautiful, meaningful, completely relatable poetry, and msic without meaningful lyrics shouln’t be considered music at all. well, think i’ve rambled on for long enough now that you get the idea. but one last thing: real musicians aren’t loved by everyone, they have to take the critiscism and the haters and all of the people who they know will never listen to their music and the real msicians go through all of this hatred because they are doing what they love, and they’re not going to stop because you don’t like them. so, basically, all of you haters bashing them on here make pretty much no point, because in the end, it doesn’t affect them. they are ust 3 boys living the dream, and they’re not going to let anything pull them down.
p.s. this is for all the jonas brothers fans who have defended them through al the hat and aren’t ashamed to say that they love the jonas brothers music.
kevin, nick and joe, our heroes.

Emilee | 8/22/2009, 4:33 pm EST

I agree COMPLETELY with *A Person?*
Nice name, but yes I actually read your whole novel on why you love the Jonas Brothers, and I tell you I think she is my long lost best friend. Everything she wrote I completely understood and I LOVED IT! I am also fourteen and last year in school I had all A’s and so everyone saying we are stupid, not all of us are!

I don’t want to copy everything she said but I am so happy someone understands what I think about the Jonas Brothers.

someone | 8/23/2009, 1:27 pm EST

Thank you so much to “a person?”….your comment said exactly what I’ve been trying to tell people for so long. Just because your a “Jonas Brothers Fan” doesn’t mean that you are a random teeniebopper with no taste in music. I have a friend I have this argument with all the time. She loves indie artists and the Beatles, and classifies the Jonas Brothers as “Disney crap”. She’s pretty much against anything Disney anyway, but that’s beside the point. I just have to keep telling her if you gave their music a chance…really listened to the lyrics and the layers and the meaning of the songs, then maybe people would finally give them the chance. They were a band before Disney, they have their own opinions and values, and they’re three guys whose hard work has finally payed off. they aren’t like someone who auditioned for disney for acting and then was told they had to sing, or someone who disney thought was cute so has her lipsyncing all of her live concerts. They just want to play their music, and have worked so hard to get where they are now. As Joe said in this article, they dont need people to like their music. They’re not doing it because they have to, or for your enjoyment. They’re doing it for their own enjoyment. And they have been playing music and had fans WAY before disney, so people just need to put the stereotypes aside and look past all of their biased opinions and see that these guys are three super talented teenagers with real values. I’m not saying you have to like them, just give them a chance. And if you cant get there, at least stop publicly hating them and us, because we all have different music tastes and we all have different opinions about what makes a musician, and no single one is right or wrong. So back off.

Aoife | 8/27/2009, 4:00 pm EST

I agree completely with A Person and I could give a speech just like her but I won’t waste my enrgy on you haters. Why did you even bother typing how much you hate them you are fully grown men and women and are jut jealous because the youth of todaty look up to and give the Jonas Brothers the respect you don’t deserve and will never receive.
And they are not in the same boat as Hannah Montana as they all right their own songs and play their own instruments!!!
And lastly you’re probably not going to like it if you are prejudiced (sp?) and of course adults probably aren’t going to relate to the lyrics as much as teenagers as the mail creative contributer of the Jonas Brothers is Nick and he’s only 16 and of course he’s going to write songs about what other teenagers like himself can relate to!!!
Jonas Brothers are true idols to teens and kids everywhere unlike you so called adults who just sit on your fat asses critisizing them!

Me | 9/1/2009, 11:51 am EST

Ugh!
Why do people comment on this if all they have to say is bad stuff.
It’s pointless!!!
And people saying that RS has sunk to a new low; are RIDICULOUS!!
People are the The Jonas Brothers are not real musicians.
Well, I don’t know about you, but my definition of a real musician is somebody that can write their own songs, can play ther own instruments and respects other musicians.
And oh would you look at that:
Write their own songs : CHECK
Play their own instruments: CHECK
Respect other instruments: CHECK

And to people that are saying that they don’t deserve to be musicians cause they came from disney, that is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. I guarantee you that if someone said “HEY LISTEN TO THIS SONG” an you didn’t know it was by them, you’d like it!
People hear that it’s by the jobros and they automatically think it must be crap. BUT ITS NOT!

So just give these kids a chance!
They are just trying to make their family proud.
x

a person? | 9/13/2009, 2:45 am EST

thank you if you agreed with my super long crazy rant. i’m surprised that anyone actually took the time to read it, but thankful. we need to get the truth about these boys out there, they really deserve musical credibility.
me and my best friend are sitting here rereading all of the comments by the bashers and we’re laughing about how completly pointless and idiotic they sound. i searched this back up to show her what i wrote and i reread it out loud and i’m glad i actually took the time to defend them that thoroughly. they deserve our defense. so whenever you see a hater, don’t be afraid to tell them off. they deserve it for making all these inacurate assumptions based off of NOTHING.
this rant won’t be as long, but i do want to point a few important things:
Jane, your statement: “Those stupid little purity rings are not rock ‘n’ roll. You know what is? Donita Sparks of L7 pulling out a bloody tampon at a show and throwing it into the crowd. Gross? Definitely. Shocking? Absolutely! Rock music is supposed to be shocking.”
i don’t know what the heck your problem is, but i sure wouldn’t appreciate my favorite artist throwing their freaking bloody tampon on me. i’m not sure why you would find that enjoyable, that’s for you and your therapist to sort out. but i know pretty much everyone on the face of the earth besides you would just find that DISGUSTING. it’s not just gross, that’s the most stupid thing i’ve ever heard of. since when is that GOOD? never, that’s when. and just because their music isn’t shocking doesn’t mean that it has to be. it sure seems to be working and they’re gaining popularity, and people like them a whole lot better than this chick i’ve never heard of who throws her disgusting tampons on her lOYAl fans. that’s rude and disrespectful. i bet they’re not fans anymore after that experience. go sort out your own problems before you come around dissing people on their admirable aspects.
now for Toolhead:
shut your spastic, trashing mouth and get a freaking LIFE. and i know that this may seem hypocritical cuz i’m sitting here writing this, but at least i actually looked it up because i LIKE THE BAND. toolhead, you are one of the most ignorant commenters of this page, and you really need to reread everything you have written. i don’t care what your opinion is, you dont know your facts, so get these delusional ideas of what you THNK you know out of your head. just because someone is SUCCESSFUL in todays world doesn’t mean you have to sit here and whine about it and qote all the fans for attempting to defend them. why are you even sitting here taking your valuable time ( though i’m sure everyone can see that you don’t HAVE anything better to do), making fun of the only band in the world who wins a general popularity. and don’t say they’re totally worshipped, its obviously not true because every single day they have to deal with haters like you, yet somehow they are quite possibly the worlds most famous current band. i’m running out of my time because i actually have a LIFE, but i do hope you come back and read this and understand just how retardedly obnoxious you are. you make no sense and think you know what real muic is. guess what, there is no such this as real music and if you think you have the holyness to judge on what is, you’re truly mistaken.
thankyou for all the people who will defend them forever, alongside me, we show that they’re not just some backstreet boy style crap. i don’t know about you, but i can tell right now that i will be their fan as long as i live, and that’s what makes them famous. us fans make them stronger.
but they’re already strong enough on their own, as we can all see.
i’ll be back in few months to read you resposes and deal with anyone who dares to call them fake again.
kevin joe and nick, the most inspirational boys to ever grace the stage.

p.s. if they’re so horrible, then why exactly did they have two number one albums in ten months, two rolling stones covers, milions of albums copies sold, millions of concert tickets sold it their 5 year career, a multi million dollar WORLD TOUR, the oppoiritunity to play for obama’s daughters at THE WHITE HOUSE, a double pattinum record, and two platinum records, and millions of fans that would die if they met the boys?
not to mention that people actually care enough to trash them.
so, i’m going with the idea that they are not horrible, if that wasn’t already easy enough for you ignoramouses to understand.

hahahaha, dude, i love how nobody’s commented bad things since i showed up and told everyone off :]

Rida | 10/3/2009, 8:32 am EST

Awww jonas brothers rock!!

Lena | 10/4/2009, 2:10 am EST

Soooo, its a disgrace to have a disney band on rolling stone? Hmm. Last time i checked its not about what you’re in, it’s about your talent. And these brothers, have tons of talent.

Krystal8307 | 10/16/2009, 1:31 pm EST

Basser you said (which brother plays drums or bass? None)
Nick Jonas plays the drums, guitar, piano,a and sings. and hes only 17. Thats alot more then some other bands can do. So maybe you should get your info right before you talk.((:
And The Jonas Brothers might be known just as Kevin,Nick, and Joe but they had an amazing band!! There’s John Taylor who plays guitar along with Kevin, Nick, and sometimes Joe. Hes also their musical director! Greg Garbowski who plays Bass!!! Jack Lawlass on Drums!!! And Ryan Leistme plays Keyboard!!! Theres alot more to The Jonas Brothers than tight jeans and screaming girls!!!

shut the fuck up. just because you told everyone off doesnt mean they dont think you are an idiot. you ramble and are stupid.

having the jobros on the first time was a mistake. now they are supposedly trying to grow up and out of the disney chokehold. i would not mind so much if they were on the cover after actually producing decent music, or even improving the shitshow they are now. but to have them on twice so close together? and for what? money? ridiculous.

producing 2 #1 albums so close together is not a sign of talent. its a sign of good marketing to the teen population that will buy into it.

just because people play their own instruments doesnt mean they are good. just because they are good people doesnt mean they are good.

im kind of excited to see what nick comes out with. if it is any good i might give them a chance in the distant future. but anyone who becomes famous by shoving their music down the throats of kids by having disney play your songs every commercial break ( i have a little sister. i have actually watched this happen ) must not really have any talent.

i feel sorry for people who think these kids are god’s gift to music.

hey *to a person*:
you’re the retarded one who’s sitting here reading my RANT while you just took your valuable time to read it. i don’t really give a crap if you don’t see this, i eel the need to tell you off.
ut i probably shouldn’t, because i guess that’s what feeds an idiot like you, unreliable inormation and you’re need to think you know everything.
news flash, if you dont give a crap about them, don’t earch them up then read all the comments and freak out on somene who actually uses factual info to defend them. go get a life, its not my fault you are a judgemental son of a bitch and don’t know what you’re taking about.
p.s. notice how you THINK you’re really making an impact with your seven inch essay on why the jonas brothers suck(since you’ve seen them on commercial breaks?).
boohoo, i’m so scared. at least i’m not pathetic enough to think that a seven inch essay would really make a diffence.
douche bag, its not my fault you’re afraid to admit to what you know is true.
kevin, nick, and joe, we love you, ignore these people, they obviously know nothing, by their ignorant remarks about untrue things.
:) )

dang. way to hate.. if you don’t like them, good for you. there’s no need for you to come on here and waste your time hating on them. go listen to your music or play your “many insturments” Toolhead. your a dick by the way. yeah, i’m a fan. i’m 15. so what? they clearly said they didn’t care what age group they attracted. so if your 40 and you love them, more power to you. i’m getting real tired of this shit of them getting alot of hate. what have they ever did to you? absolutely nothing. they never said you had to listen to their music.. and I don’t like them because there “hot” or because there on Disney. I like them for them. and their LYRICS. if you actually TRY to understand the meanings, you might get something out of it.. and thanks to “a person” , you made my life haha. so yeah. just stop. your wasting your time. and your sure not changing our opinion on liking them anymore..

AGREE WITH YOU 100%

& Some people on here have to get their facts straight before they say anything.
All 3 brothers have graduated High School.
Ever heard of homeschool?
& They all play instruments,They sing, They do awesome jumps and stunts onstage, they all know how to play guitar and piano, They do have a band behind them, but they often join in, in playing drums, guitar and piano/keyboard. And Kevin plays Lead guitar through out most of their show, except for when he is playing piano in like one of the songs. So, like I said, learn the facts before you talk.
