Jessica Simpson will return to the world of reality television with a new show on VH1 called The Price of Beauty, the Los Angeles Times‘ Show Tracker blog reports. The show will find Simpson globetrotting around the world, visiting different cultures “to meet women, study local fashions, dietary fads and beauty regimes.”

“I have always believed that beauty comes from within and confidence will always make a woman beautiful, but I know how much pressure some women put on themselves to look perfect,” Simpson said in a press release. The singer has come under fire from gossip blogs and magazines for her appearance of late, starting when she appeared onstage wearing unflattering high-waisted jeans back in January (seen here), US Weekly reports. The Price of Beauty will begin filming this July and air sometime in 2010.

The show will mark Simpson’s return to TV after turning into a household name thanks to MTV’s Newlyweds, which comically documented her marriage to then-husband and then-98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey. That show aired from August 2003 through March 2005, a span that also featured Simpson’s most successful album, In This Skin. Lachey and Simpson filed for divorce in December 2005. For Simpson, a return to reality television comes after she had a less-than-successful turn as a country singer with 2008’s Do You Know and her recent cinematic output, films like Blonde Ambition and Major Movie Star, went practically straight-to-DVD in the States (Blonde Ambition did really well in Ukraine, though.) Simpson also appeared as a computer technician on the CBS April Fools’ Day show I Get That a Lot earlier this year. Interestingly, after being among the most popular pair of siblings in music roughly four years ago, both Simpson sisters will be on television next year as Ashlee has been cast to appear on CW’s Melrose Place reboot.
