Kiss “Days From Finishing” New Album, Walmart Deal In the Works

Kiss are wrapping up their first new LP since 1998’s Psycho Circus, guitarist Paul Stanley revealed in a post on the band’s official Website yesterday. “We’re about four days from finishing the new Kiss album. Eleven tracks, and it IS everything I’ve told you. It IS classic. It IS all written within the band. And IT ROCKS BIG TIME!,” Stanley writes.

In news that will likely distress old school Kiss fans, Stanley also revealed that guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer will both handle lead vocal duties at some points on the album. “The songs, sound and playing will knock your socks off. You will all be as proud and excited as we all are,” Stanley added. When Rock Daily spoke to bassist Gene Simmons in March, the God of Thunder described the LP as having a “classic ’70s rock & roll vibe. Meat and Potatoes.” “There’s nothing to prove to anybody,” Simmons said. “We’re not interested in musical trends or anything else. We’re too long in the tooth for that.” No release date has been announced yet.

However, when Kiss do release their new album, it will apparently be a Walmart exclusive. Simmons revealed the news to an unlikely source — actress Denise Richards — during a Sirius XM visit. The promotional blitz will include Walmart dedicating an area of their stores to the band and dubbing it “Kiss Korner,” Simmons told Richards in the video posted at Blabbermouth. Rumors of a deal along the lines of AC/DC’s massively successful exclusive with the retail giant first emerged after Simmons and Stanley attended an Arkansas Walmart shareholders meeting on June 5th.

Classic 70’s KISS = Ace and Pete. We could always hear when the studio musicians were playing and it was never as good…as far back as Destroyer…but then again, Gene never valued the MUSIC as much as we did.

Redolent with Booze | 6/22/2009, 11:46 am EST

Yawn

Jon G. | 6/22/2009, 12:44 pm EST

“Classic” KISS = Classic CRAP.

Monitor | 6/22/2009, 12:50 pm EST

A little excited. A little skeptical. Afterwards, probably, a little disappointed.

Radio Zero | 6/22/2009, 1:00 pm EST

You wanted the fattest and oldest….and you got the fattest and oldest….the most shamefully putrid band in the land….KISS!!!

Kliff | 6/22/2009, 1:01 pm EST

Utter. crap. it’s not ace & peter in that makeup. no real kiss fan could ever take this serious. i won’t be buying it.

Anonymous | 6/22/2009, 1:03 pm EST

Yawn. Kiss sucks.

Bring it... | 6/22/2009, 1:05 pm EST

….I look forward to the new cd. It HAS to be better than Psycho Circus. I like the fact that there’s no outside writers or studio musicians brought in on the project. Maybe, just maybe, the new album rocks like Paul is suggesting…time will tell.

Reddy Freddy | 6/22/2009, 1:10 pm EST

This HAS to be a sign of the apocalypse.

JasonTH | 6/22/2009, 1:10 pm EST

Being a life-long KISS fan, I’m optimistic of the new album. Having Tommy & Eric sing definitely exhibits this new “unity” that the current lineup has. As long as there are no lame ballads, I’m down with this.

fat kid from aurora | 6/22/2009, 1:21 pm EST

what a pile of tripe and buttholes.

I wouldnt spend my hard earned cash on this “classic” album for all the exciting words in CAPS.

Douches.

Leggy Mountbaton | 6/22/2009, 1:54 pm EST

Nothing says “ROCKS BIG TIME” & “CLASSIC” like a Walmart exclusive!

Mike Whitteker | 6/22/2009, 2:05 pm EST

As long as Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer are wearing those costumes, I will not purchase anything with the Kiss logo on it anywhere.

Jeff | 6/22/2009, 2:15 pm EST

No really, who asked for this?

Davis Lee Roth | 6/22/2009, 2:19 pm EST

Van Halen > Kiss

IDIOTS | 6/22/2009, 2:24 pm EST

I love the way you guys all crap on Kiss. The funny thing is, probably half the bands you listen too, anything newer than 1980, was influenced by Kiss somehow. Kiss means rock n roll. Decadence, testoserone, and noise to it’s fullest. Stop being a bunch of homos.

Comfort Inn | 6/22/2009, 2:25 pm EST

That ain’t Ace and Peter and this is not the 70’s. I’m sure they still a decent stage show but forget the record making

Booby Guy | 6/22/2009, 2:27 pm EST

They can KISS my ass!

Ann | 6/22/2009, 2:36 pm EST

Original line-up was awesome…I miss those days…

Ace and Peter Rule! | 6/22/2009, 2:43 pm EST

I can’t get over how little Ace and Peter have aged over the years. They look so much younger than Gene and Paul. Ace appears to be even be a little taller! How do they do it?

Axl Rose | 6/22/2009, 3:21 pm EST

What’s up guys. Just checking up on all the latest music news here on Rollingstone. Anyway, I noticed that you guys weren’t talking about me for some reason. Well, I’m f’n angry. Slash, I’m comin’ down to kick your a$$. Long live Charlie!

KISS- The biggest marketing ploy since organized religion!

MAKE MINE A SINGLE | 6/22/2009, 4:15 pm EST

A classic KISS album meant one good radio song and a bunch of lame filler. I can hardly wait.

Eric | 6/22/2009, 4:16 pm EST

They will kick your ass…
They are what rock and roll is all about!!!
the kings!

artifcialred | 6/22/2009, 4:21 pm EST

Ridiculous!!! Dinosaurs like these guys should be extinct. With no Ace Frehley or Peter Criss, no way!!! Then again, they didn’t make good music with them last time either. The Psycho Circus album sucked ass. Haven’t had a good album since 1977’s Rock & Roll Over. Give it up Paul and Gene and those two imposters.

Licky | 6/22/2009, 4:26 pm EST

The next Kiss album I’ll be interested in is the first one that’s totally farmed out–four completely new guys in the old makeup. The first franchise.

It’ll happen, too.

Steve | 6/22/2009, 4:26 pm EST

Honestly they should just take the makeup off already. It’s just to the point of being sad. Funny yes, but sad nonetheless. They should go back to their ‘Revenge’ line-up, which was their last half-decent album in 18 years. Honestly how long can you milk the past for?

dlt | 6/22/2009, 4:30 pm EST

Wal-Mart won’t let Ace and Peter in the group. Gene and Paul know who their daddy is

john ford | 6/22/2009, 4:36 pm EST

all they care about is money, lots and lots of money, but hey they still put on a solid show.(if your 12)

Jeff The Smart One | 6/22/2009, 4:43 pm EST

I don’t shop at Walmart due to the fact that I’m not a hillbilly, so I guess I’ll just have to download the torrent. Lucky for me Gene won’t care because he doesn’t give a crap about money. Now I’m going to go have a Dr. Pepper…no, make that a Coke.

kilicopter | 6/22/2009, 4:45 pm EST

I think Gene Simmons has turned into the largest prostitute imagineable. It has NOTHING to do with the music. He will pimp out the KISS name, no integrity left!

saltlick | 6/22/2009, 5:38 pm EST

Hey is that Anderson Cooper in the cat makeup? When I’m shopping for day old do-nuts and ALPO at
Walmart I’ll look for the KISS display at the laxative counter.

Edz | 6/22/2009, 5:46 pm EST

What no one is mentioning is how America’s family values store has sold out. Last year it was AC/DC Highway to Hell T-Shirts. I guess this year its Louder then Hell T-shirts and Love Gun boxers to go with your groceries and cosmetics. Next year look for Slayer or Manson to be nosing around Bentonville looking for their “exclusive deal.”

Is this still the retailer that won’t carry uncensored versions of most artists’ records? Still the retailer that won’t carry Maxim Magazine and other questionable non-family friendly publications? Ironic that you can get a copy of Grand Theft Auto or the uncensored version of Zack and Miri make a Prono, but no Men’s publication that have females in binkis on the cover or records with cruse words on them.

On Kiss’ side this is a no brainier. It guarantees them promotion to the point of nausea and the fact the disc will at least ship “Gold” (500,000 units) is another notch in their belt. One I’m sure Mr. Simmons will be happy to tell you about. Still between Gene’s shameless promotion of the “Kiss” brand, Paul Stanley being a shell of his former self vocally and the real Ace and Peter MIA, you’ve got to wonder how many in the Kiss army will stand and salute?

HA~ | 6/22/2009, 5:57 pm EST

You guys hit your peak in 77…go to bed already.

Sanchez | 6/22/2009, 6:38 pm EST

God of whoredom, a fucken bore.
You buy this album, you will have been taken by the Wal-Mart storrrrrre.

I'll check it out... | 6/22/2009, 7:22 pm EST

…and approach it with an open mind. It would be great to have a new KISS cd that truly rocks (unlike the Psycho Circus release, which was way too watered down for my tastes).

To the person who posted that KISS “haven’t had a good album since 1977’s Rock & Roll Over” … what about the classic Love Gun album? For that matter, I think Creatues of the Night and Revenge are both solid too.

Imp | 6/22/2009, 7:44 pm EST

If this new release sucks as bad as Psycho Circus, they are done. Funny thing is,I have a feeling they know it.Maybe it DOES rock.

judrichards | 6/22/2009, 8:14 pm EST

Please….No more impostors dressed as Ace and Peter…Please Gene..This could be the worst mistake you’ve ever made and you’re letting the fans down…The ones who still care about the band.

Matt | 6/22/2009, 8:20 pm EST

All u people ripping on Kiss. CAN KISS MY ASS! KISS and Alice Cooper need to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Who agrees with me?

I do Matt. I do. Alice was first so he deserves to be in there first.

Wicked Lester | 6/22/2009, 8:44 pm EST

Has anyone here checked out the tribute band 1977??? They made an album of songs that sound exactly like old school KISS!!!! They took the tribute thing to a whole new level. The sad thing is they sound more like KISS than KISS does!!!

Justin | 6/22/2009, 9:22 pm EST

deano | 6/22/2009, 10:55 pm EST

There’s no way this would have ever gotten off the ground if Gene hadn’t already had a cash-heavy Wal-Mart deal in place. Sam Walton’s kids probably guaranteed Kiss sales of two million. So much for the integrity of rock and roll.

zencb | 6/22/2009, 11:16 pm EST

Ok KISS fans I guess this is the best forum to pose this question. What is so great about this band? Why are they so revered? They have two good songs. I’ve seen alot of the “Classic” footage from the 70’s concerts…it sucked. They were obviously drunk and higher than a pornstar on blow. They are nothing but a product…and a really bad one at that.It is painfully obvious all they want is your money. So don’t give me this “They are what rock and roll is all about” crap..They are trash on par with Nickleback and REO Speedwagon…

Jack | 6/23/2009, 2:19 am EST

The only reason KISS has gone this far is because of the makeup. We all know it. The same thing with ZZ Top and the their beards.

DORF | 6/23/2009, 6:34 am EST

If they’re gonna keep wearing the makeup (IMO they actually made their best music when they weren’t wearing it, but I digress), they at least could have made up new personas for Thayer and Singer, like they did with Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr. Having Thayer and Singer wearing the spaceman and cat outfits is an insult and a slap in the face to Ace and Peter.

SAF | 6/23/2009, 7:18 am EST

I’ve heard it’s a concept album based around the life of Macaulay Culkin. It’s their Tommy.

Eddie Van Heflin | 6/23/2009, 8:29 am EST

No matter how wasted Ace was, he usually wrote the best riffs and had the best ideas. Like don’t do The Elder. Afterwards, Gene admitted he was right.

To zencb's question... | 6/23/2009, 8:54 am EST

I think KISS have FAR more than “just two great songs” … their 70’s output in particular.

I’ve noticed that in recent years many classic rock stations have expanded the number of KISS classics in their rotation. Tracks like “Love Gun” “Strutter” and “Calling Dr. Love” are now getting played as much as “Detroit Rock City” “Shout It Out Loud” and of course “Rock and Roll All Night”

As a fan, for me it’s the music that comes first, not the image. That’s why I’m pumped for the new album. Here’s hoping it’s worth the wait.

As to your feeling that KISS sucked live in the 70’s. I couldn’t disagree with you more. In fact Volume One of the KISSOLOGY DVD series has been the best thing I’ve bought with the band’s logo on it in years.

You feel otherwise. Fair enough.

To the person who said Ace had the best ideas…I disagree. I love tracks like “Parasite” and “Strange Ways” … but I think overall Gene and Paul had the better songs.

Peter on the other hand…

Darrell | 6/26/2009, 8:49 pm EST

C’mon people lets be serious here.If you have Gene and Paul you have KISS. I am a fan of Peter and Ace, but you could not replace Gene or Paul. As for people calling Kiss crap, in all probability the bands you’re listening to were in someway influenced by them. Kiss is the best band in the world, and if you don’t agree you can Kiss my a**.

Becky | 6/26/2009, 9:27 pm EST

I’m a HUGE KISS fan. KISS-I will NOT buy your album in any fashion if you do an exclusive Walmart deal. I don’t support artists who support Walmart’s hypocritical efforts to sell America censored art without a choice. It angers me that if a record has a couple curse words, it’s a censored version that’s sold there, but I can buy DVD’s of Sex and the City or the Sopranos at Walmart. No way, no how. Think it over.

Love, Becky

TLD7996 | 6/27/2009, 12:09 am EST

if Kiss signed a deal w/ Wal-Mart…Firstly, my image of them is blown(wally-world will have them censoring their music, as soon as the first cd is placed in the rack, just you watch) and secondly, i won’t be able to buy the cd, because i have not stepped into a “Wal-Mart in almost 5 yrs. I have yet to get the AC/DC cd either, for the same reason. Bruce Springsteen signed a deal w/ them as well, and he regretted it almost immediately. WAL-MART SUCKS!!!!!!!

TAKO CHANG | 6/27/2009, 1:05 am EST

KISS RULES!!!!!!!
im all original line up but ill give it a chance….

jstarr | 6/27/2009, 1:39 am EST

The Wal-Mart deal is a total sell out to real business owners across the country. Kiss and AC/DC also, have proved they don’t give a crap about anybody but themselves. Bon Scott wouldn’t have signed a deal with the world’s largest corporation.

KISSFOREVER | 6/27/2009, 4:23 pm EST

HAHAHAHAHA… for all those critizicing here… Sorry, but you are just JEALOUS of what KISS is, has been, and will always be… THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD… If you don’t agree, just check the zillions of fans around the globe who will buy this and all-coming cd’s they decide to make no matter what… Have a good day and enjoy the music of your preference.

non_amos | 6/28/2009, 1:45 am EST

I think Gene & PAUL could POTENTIALLY be making a mistake with a Wal Mart exclusive. I’ll explain.

Now I’m well aware that AC/DC succeeded with THEIR deal by selling millions of units. However, when I walk in a Wal Mart now, they have a whole slew of Black Ice. I mean an EXCESS! And you might barely find even ONE CD from another group. What’s up with that?!

Here’s another thing. Axl Rose released Guns ‘N Roses’ recent album as a BEST BUY EXCLUSIVE. I don’t think it did so well. I mean, ‘Chinese Democracy’ was rumored for YEARS, but when it’s finally released, it’s like no one cared, even though the album is actually fairly decent.

I’ll be honest with you. When AC/DC did THEIR deal, I was concerned that it might NOT succeed! What if they had gambled & lost?! They succeeded, but what if they hadn’t? I saw that as a very REAL possibility.

So AC/DC succeeded whereas GNR somewhat failed. BOTH were exclusives. Here’s MY argument. Wouldn’t BOTH groups have been BETTER OFF to have allowed EVERYONE to carry their albums?! Walmart. K Mart. Best Buy. Target. Various INDEPENDENT record stores (THEM especially). Other assorted music stores, such as FYE & Sam Goody.

See what I’m saying?! Let EVERYONE carry the album for an even GREATER sales yield!

What’s Paul & Gene gonna do for the areas that maybe DON’T have a Wal Mart in their community? I think that’s what hurt Axl Rose. Some people DON’T have a Best Buy in their community & the nearest one might be 30 or more miles away. That right there eliminates SOME potential buyers. But if the LP was available somewhere ELSE in their LOCAL community, they’d probably BUY it. Can’t Gene even see this?!

Another thing. Paul stated that the album would be recorded in analog, NOT digital! THAT leads me to believe that besides being on CD, it’ll ALSO be available on vinyl, & don’t laugh! Vinyl in recent years has made somewhat of a comeback. It’s VERY popular in the INDEPENDENTS & even Best Buy now carries a LIMITED selection. Even many of your RECENT big-selling bands are releasing their CDs on vinyl as well (180 gram).

So the reasoning is since this new KISS album is gonna be VERY 70’s, it SHOULD be available on vinyl, but will WAL MART carry vinyl?! How do Paul & Gene intend to solve THIS dilemma?!

I WANT IT ON VINYL COMPLETE WITH COLLECTIBLES!

dash | 6/28/2009, 8:30 am EST

doing a deal with satan/walmart is pathetic, but only to be expected, especially with other major artists doing so successfully recently. even more so, considering the bottomless greed of genie and paul. still, i look forward to the album. just get ace and peter on it, even if they aren’t capable of touring!

Samurai Rob | 6/29/2009, 12:17 am EST

Uh, you guys do know that most of their 18 studio albums were made without Ace and/or Peter. I think even Psycho Circus only had them on like two songs. I’m a HUGH fan and enjoy (some more than others) their entire catalogue of work. That being said – if it had been left up to Ace & Peter, Kiss would be nothing but a memory. I give credit where credit is due: they were all equally important in the birth of the rock monster that is Kiss but without Paul & Gene to keep the beast alive…well, you get what I’m going for. As for Tommy and Eric, you guys ROCK! Don’t let the haters get you down! As for Kiss being so-called sell-outs, I say: Where the Hell have you been these last three decades? Of course they’re sell-outs! That’s why they’re one of the most famous bands of all time, instantly known world wide. Their facese have been everywhere for nearly 40 years! Their pop culture Icons! As for the new album, I think it’s great that after 35 years they aren’t content to keep living on their past successes and are willing to go for something new! Way to go, guys! You keep rockin’ and I’ll keep listenin’!

non_amos | 6/29/2009, 1:44 am EST

To sort of reiterate what I said over on the Meat & Potatoes article, in a nutshell Ace & Peter started self-destructing RIGHT AFTER they hit the BIG-TIME. Just examine the history. Before KISS ALIVE! came out, they were ALL busting their butts to try & make it. They were ALL hungry! And it showed in their live performances.

However, after the success of their live LP, as early as DESTROYER, Ace was ALREADY missing recording sessions, & I’m sure this was to Paul’s & Gene’s chagrin. So the cycle started THAT early on! HEY! The band had just hit it big! But what happened with Ace & Peter?!

It’s like they slowly but surely went on a path of self-destructive behavior that ultimately led to their departure from the band. We’ve all heard the substance abuse stories from Gene, but there’s probably even MORE to it than that.

Peter seemed to think HE HIMSELF was a big star, no doubt due to the success of BETH & HARD LUCK WOMAN. I believe Peter started down THIS road musically, thinking he could make it on his own. But what happened to that ‘drummer willing to do anything to make it’? You know, the ad that Paul & Gene responded to? And besides, a band like KISS is better in its’ sum rather than its’ individual parts, because there’s FOUR characters, & individually NONE of them should probably be a solo artist.

I think Ace was content to be in KISS as long as they rocked hard but his problem may’ve been the partying.

The bottom line is that for whatever reason, Ace & Peter simply couldn’t handle success. They were hungry to ACHIEVE success & worked hard, but once they got there, they squandered it.

In SOME ways, you can’t BLAME Gene & Paul.

ert6818 | 6/29/2009, 9:28 pm EST

I dont care who is backing up Gene and Paul or if they sell the new CD out the back of Genes SUV im buying it.

Just heard a ’small snippet’ of an Ace Frehley song off his upcoming solo CD Anomaly. It was a Youtube video about having to wait so long for his new album. Toward the end on the vid, a song starts playing, something about outer space. It sounded pretty cool from what few seconds I heard, very catchy & VERY ACE!

Spartacus | 7/4/2009, 2:00 am EST

Kiss is great because they are and always have been FUN! Something that is missing terribly from the music industry today. Most of you guys here I suspect could be my grandkids. I have been following music since I was 5 years old in 1964 when the Beatles arrived here. And through all of these years most of the music was FUN! Sure you had a few preachy whiners here and there, but they always seem to come and go. But since about 1993 the music stopped being fun. Oh sure there are still a few good bands out there, but you have to look extremely hard to find them! On the Pop charts, every damn song sounds exactly the same. It’s either Rap or, if it is an actual SONG the singers can’t seem to simply hold a note anymore. It’s like they are all trying to prove they can out sing each other, or who does the best Mariah Carey imitation. It actually hurts my ears to listen to it! The Alternative music seems to be the best at the moment, but even that has a problem with getting to preachy. On the rock charts, for the past 15 years I have heard very few songs that I myself could not play and folks, if I can play it, there ain’t much talent involved. It’s like they all want to be Pearl Jam. All of the singers sound the same (they all have what I call the constipation sound, it is strained as if they haven’t had a bowel movement in weeks). That or else it is just absolutely nothing but noise distorted to the point of being ludicrous! If the record industry wants to know why it is failing, it is because there are not any FUN acts anymore (except, of course KISS!) If they are wondering why album sales are so bad, or why very few rock bands can sell out large arena’s for 3-4 nights in a row, you need look no further than the fact that the FUN is gone from the music, and everybody SOUNDS THE SAME! Conformity is the norm. Except, of course for KISS! I Hope these guys go on forever! I met them in 1979 and they are great guys! They work their asses off to give their fans the best show possible each and every night. AND THEY ARE FUN! Life sucks enough these days, I don’t need my music bringing me down as well! I want to ESCAPE when I listen to music or go to a concert, and there is not and never will be a band better suited to that purpose then KISS! I wish them all the success possible if for no other reason then all of the joy they have brought to me and millions of others for the past 35 plus years!

Classic Kiss with Ace and Peter? Do any of you people actually realize how long its been since they left the group. Paul and Gene are the driving force behind this group. As for the KISS haters commenting here, they obviously no more than the hundreds of millions of us who have attended KISS concerts over the years and the millions of fans who have bought every KISS album. I think the problem here is that people are jealous of the fact that Gene is a marketing icon who could even make a group like Limp Bizkit look good when we all know the truth. Back to Peter and Ace for a second, Eric Carr (R.I.P.) and Eric Singer are both far superior drummers to Peter and yes, Ace is incredible but if he can’t stay clean long enough to do an album and tour what good is he. Let’s get the new album out and shut up all these critics!!!

non_amos | 7/5/2009, 1:37 am EST

Spartacus, I know what you mean man!. I was born in 1963 & grew up with ‘classic rock’. In some ways, I think the whole ‘digital age’ has screwed things up, among other things.

I mean, look. Although I like 8-tracks personally (IF they play that is), I can also see how that wasn’t a perfect format & that maybe cassettes were a better choice, but WHY did they have to touch VINYL?! You see, they introduced CDs, which not only did away with cassettes ultimately, but first they tried to get rid of vinyl. Wasn’t THAT around the early 90’s also? I know, in some ways vinyl is NOW making a comeback, especially in specialty music stores, but that doesn’t excuse the fact of what they did.

NOW they’re trying to REPLACE CDS with ‘digital downloads’ & now the CD could potentially face what the LP did.

Here’s the deal. Back in the day, WE got good music with the likes of KISS, Aerosmith, Queen, etc., etc. EACH band had their OWN unique sound! However, with the dawn of this digital age, we started getting crap in many cases. THEN you had guys trying to ‘fuse’ heavy metal with RAP! And all sounding the same too. Also look at heavy metal. To ME that was bands like Judas Priest & Iron Maiden, as WELL as ‘hard rock’ like KISS. NOW what’s CALLED heavy metal sounds like a bunch of GARBAGE! They’re invoking Satan & ’screeching & growling’. In most cases you can’t understand a word they say! Oh, & they have a tendency to AVOID lead guitar also. What’s up with THAT?!

As for the 90’s, I do remember music I liked, but it was usually the POP type of music, like Matchbox 20 & Hootie & the Blowfish, etc. Nevertheless, there was also a LOT of USELESS music. Forgettable music. Albums that sucked. One good song!

NOW with this new millenium, we have to get our music from REALITY SHOWS! Like American Idol. So whoever wins, & the runner-up ‘underdog’ get big recording contracts, but instead of writing their OWN songs, like in the old days, they simply SING someone else’ & laugh all the way to the bank! Anything WRONG with this picture?!

One thing I DID appreciate about bands like KISS & Aerosmith is that they had to PAY THEIR DUES! They weren’t handed hit singles on a silver platter while America watched. They had to do it the HARD way! They had to start out in clubs. Get noticed. FINALLY get a recording contract, but even then they had to finally SELL records & gain a following by ever-growing concert appearances. There was no Internet so they had to rely on the printed word & WORD-OF-MOUTH! They also wrote their OWN songs! When THEIR material became a hit, they actually EARNED it! The school of hard-knocks so to speak.

I’m not a big fan of this ‘reality TV’ music because it’s like they’re just manufacturing talent. Find someone with a voice, hold a contest, & VOILA! INSTANT STAR! No toil, no sacrifice, no ‘paying the price’ to make it!

The music industry suffers, & people wonder WHY?! :(

Did you like all of the KISS albums with Ace and Peter? Yes? Oh, well this one will surely be different. Did you like all of the albums without Ace and Peter? Not very much? Oh, well you probably won’t like this one either. Revenge was okay, but that was a far younger, hungrier KISS than this. What was your favorite song off Psycho Circus? Into the Void? Oh, that one had Ace and Peter on it. Sure, check this new album out, along with Ace’s Anomaly, Peter’s One for All, Paul’s Live to Win, and Gene’s CD with the obscene title. Decide for yourself which ones have the most substance and depth…don’t let Wal*Mart tell you which ones you should buy, and which ones are KLASSIC. While your at it, go check out the relatively recent shows with Ace and Peter on Kissology 3, just to remind yourself how great it was to have the original four back together, in case you had forgotten.

i think all you kiss haters should hate this very they have no rights to even mention kiss they dont deserve too Rolling Stone never respected kiss always dissed them when they got the chance and to this day never mentioned Eric Carr death now that kiss Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons ARe Money making machines they will write a positive article to make some cash rolling stone sucks i have never supported them and neither should you they are the money making machine that is even more greedy than Kiss

non_amos | 7/10/2009, 6:43 pm EST

You’ve got THAT right, jmdagptjmw! But don’t forget, Led Zeppelin got dissed too in the beginning! As if they weren’t good rock and roll or something. How could a ROCK magazine take THAT stance?!

As for dissing KISS, I agree there too. I just believe there’s people here who’ve always HATED KISS no matter what, REFUSE to induct them into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, & generally don’t give them credit for ANYTHING! However, the FANS throughout the years have spoken LOUD & CLEAR!

Personally, to me, the Hall of Fame is a crock! I mean, only ‘certain artists’ get inducted. THINK Grateful Dead & THAT type of music. However, if your name is KISS, QUEEN, ALICE COOPER, etc., etc., you DON’T get inducted! I mean, look! Van Halen got inducted & rightfully so, but who DISCOVERED Van Halen? GENE SIMMONS! Gene is even credited on the back of their debut LP! But KISS is shut out?! What a crock! Metallica is inducted & rightfully so, but even James Hetfield made the comment at the LAST induction that bands like KISS & others SHOULD BE INDUCTED!

Ya know, I’m even surprised that all of these articles on KISS are being published here at this site. So what stance does Rolling Stone take when the NEW ALBUM is released? Do they NOW praise it or do they do like they’ve ALWAYS done? THAT is the $64,000 question!

Sam | 7/11/2009, 12:42 am EST

Hopefully the new songs from Eric and Tommy will shut the haters up.
And putting them in brand new costumes should give them their own identity (some-what)….
at least the costumes will be Eric’s and Tommy’s…not Peter and Ace’s.
I think every KISS fan should be happy that they are still relavant in 2009.
It makes me happy and excited.
I don’t understand the hate.
If you don’t like them anymore…. then go away.
Or is it your job to try and spoil our fun?

rw93 | 7/11/2009, 10:55 am EST

For all the haters out there, hate to disappoint you but just got back from the show in Sarnia and these guys have more energy now than they have had in years. If the new album has half the energy, look out. To the people who want to diss Tommy and Eric, hate to disappoint you as well but these guys were incredible. Eric played with so much energy I didn’t think they were going to be able to keep him behind the drums. Peter could have learned a thing or two watching Eric.

Kevin | 7/11/2009, 3:59 pm EST

I haven’t been this excited about a Kiss album since Revenge. While I wish Ace was still with the band, Peter is another story. His drumming live his mediocre at best. I have seen them 33 times so I think I am qualified to give my opinion. The best concert music wise was the Hot in the Shade tour. They sounded great and Eric Carr doing Black Diamond was awesome. Tommy and Singer are very good and this album will be outstanding as all their albums are. Yes even The Elder. You don’t hang around for 36 years unless you are the greatest band of all time. Why do people still question them after all these years? Rock on guys, Rock on!

Sam S | 7/13/2009, 4:58 pm EST

Listen. I have been a die hard KISS fan since i was 4 years old. I am now 17. The music never gets old. Why? Because “I” like it.I’m sick of these people always criticizing KISS. If you don’t like it, then don’t listen to it. You’re obviously jealous if you actually take the time out of your day to write a comment on a website about a band you DON’T like. And if you’re not jealous then you need to get your head examined. But i’m sure the album is gunna be great and will probably become gold or platinum along with the other 40 albums that they have realeased.
And one more thing…No matter what ROCK band you look at today, they were most likely influenced by KISS, whether they suck or not. This is because KISS started it ALL, along with some other great bands of the era of course. KISS was THE FIRST and they always will be the first.
And oh how can i forget…all these people that say Gene Simmons is a money hungry pig, you’re right… but if you were in his shoes and went through years of busting your balls to make it, i’m sure you would be too. he deserves every penny he gets. He’s a marketing genius and people are again—whats the word? oh yeah….JEALOUS!

You wonder why all the old classic bands are still selling out concerts selling albums after 25-35 years. It’s because Bands like KISS actually have music that is fun to listen to. All the new bands SUCK big time and aren’t talented.

ur right, but it depends of band style. Like jonas brothers, it’s a real joke. This is not real rock, this is gay and girl rock… the best band comes from the 60’s years to the 90’s-2000’s years.

sugardaddy | 7/16/2009, 3:30 pm EST

i think Spartucus summed it up best: KISS IS FUN. Bottom line. They never professed to be music virtuosos and by being a simple, catchy rock n roll band, they have probably influenced more people to pick up a guitar or drums than anyone. Personally, I would have preferred them to quit after the farewell tour in 2000, but I welcome new music from them as that was the reason I got into them in the first place back in 1978. (I’m 38 now). If you can’t have fun at a KISS concert, you need to check yer pulse. These guys are pushing 60 and pretty much won’t quit rawkin’….plus they do it 7 inches above ground. So tell that to all yer Rolling Stone flavor of the month artiste’s.

Best stage show ever. Period. I’ll be buying the new album and a ticket to their fall tour.

Kiss Nauseum | 7/18/2009, 9:19 pm EST

I’ve been a KISS fan for a long time, but let’s face it, as a band they made their statement to the Rock and Roll world between 1975 and 1977. Everything outside of that is just a good song here and there – and marketing. For a long time, the band has milked their “brand loyalty” because they have great fans. But now, those great fans are turning into “suckers” because the KISS marketing machine is dancing all over the face of their legacy. This is an insult to their truly great music of yesteryear, their fans, and the other founding members. KISS lied to their public when they stated that their Farewell Tour was their farewell. Their greed has compelled them to enslist imposters to fill the slots of Ace and Peter (albeit the imposters are good musicians), and turn the KISS show into a 50% KISS impersonaters. Guys, take it to Vegas, you are “Destroying” your history and credibility, which is precisely why you are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Who can take you seriously at this point. Gene and Paul are delusional when they say their new album is like those of the 70’s. They’ve been saying that about every album since “Lick it Up.” Guys, it’s time to retire and let your legacy stand on its own…please.

dink | 7/19/2009, 3:20 am EST

It’s not going to be nearly as cool as Ace’s record.

halffastguitar | 7/19/2009, 11:41 am EST

I’m actually looking forward to having both a new KISS album and a new Ace Frehley album. So what if it is KISS without the “classic” lineup? Please! Nothing lasts forever! It’s kind of like back in ‘86 when Van Halen released their first album with Sammy Hagar (”5150″) as their singer and David Lee Roth releasing “Eat ‘Em And Smile” at the same time. In the end, fans got two damn good albums out of it and it’s going to be the same way with KISS and Ace Frehley. So please-quit your bitching and just enjoy!

Will Milano | 7/19/2009, 6:09 pm EST

Honestly, this is just a publicity stunt. This album will be available in stores of all types, just the initial release promo process will be walmart exclusive. This way they can sell cheaper cd’s to up sales with the ‘walmart exclusive” promo to boost week 1&2 sales.
Kiss only had the original lineup for short stints. This lineup now is great, though BK fits in that realm. They made some great music and some poor. For those who are here to burn GENE, I would like to know, did Walmart offer u a deal? No? Then shut the fuck up and let the big boys play.

IronmanLA | 7/20/2009, 2:34 pm EST

Kiss was good with Ace & Peter, Kiss is good with Eric & Tommy.

Gene and Paul obviously thought enough of these two to record an album of new material with them and let them sing.

Kiss is every bit as good today, as they were back then. Can’t wait for the new stuff.

Anonymous | 7/20/2009, 3:50 pm EST

Here are my thoughts on the band. Each member made contributions in the early days that made them successful and deserve credit for what they did.

In my opinion Paul is the true musical talent in the band and without him they simply would not have had enough solid material or stage energy to reach the success that they have. He also kept the bad going when Gene lost interest. He had the talent to be successful on his own but is better off a result of being in KISS because fans love the 4 characters.

I’m not a Gene fan, for the most part I find him to be arrogant and cheesy. A lot of people love him and he has played a huge role in making the band successful. He is undoubtedly the most recognizable character. Without Gene KISS would not have been as successful.

The only thing that pisses me off about Paul is that he seems to make a lot of underhanded cracks against Gene. Other than one comment in his book, Gene always speaks very highly of Paul.

With respect to Peter and Ace, yes Peter sang Beth. Ace designed the logo, designed his own and Paul’s make-up, wrote Cold Gin and sang Shock Me. Ace was a great guitar player in his time. Peter really was never that great of a drummer. They both drank and did drugs and didn’t appreciate the opportunity that they were given. Don’t forget, Paul and Gene selected them and I think 2 other people likely could have made different but equivalent contributions.

Peter and Ave have turned into whiners now and I think that they really have got more than they deserve. Who else gets the chance to screw up their live and then have another chance with a band that was successful without them? Further more neither one of them is capable of touring like Paul and Gene. Peter and Ace only got worse over the years and Ace complained constantly even when he got his second chance.

Paul and Gene are the 2 members KISS would not have successful without. They’ve also kept the band going. Should they be expected to shelf would they’ve built for the sake of 2 people that happened to be in the right place at the right time? They also have continued to deliver for the fans and deserve to continue.

mmmtoms | 7/20/2009, 6:11 pm EST

The problem is their live show is stale now. Keep the bombs, the iconic KISS logo, the big lazers and theatrics but TAKE THE MAKE-UP off and concentrate on making good music! KISS needs to take the make up off and play. They were just as good w/o it than they were with it. Its just a JOKE to see Eric and Tommy in those same Catman/SpaceAce costumes and make up. LAME!

non_amos | 7/21/2009, 12:53 am EST

Yeah, Gene, might wanna THINK about only being able to sell that new album at Wal Mart. Gene, let me spell it out for you:

1) BEST BUY = MONEY

2) TARGET = MONEY

3) KMART = MONEY

4) FYE/SAM GOODY = MONEY

5) INDEPENDENT RECORD STORES = MONEY

6) ANYWHERE I OVERLOOKED = MONEY

Gene, also consider that some areas may not even HAVE a Wal Mart. I know, that’s hard to believe, but ain’t there some areas of the country that resist Wal Mart coming in? Ya know, because they don’t have a union, their supposed unfair labor practices, etc.

So GENE, are you willing to bet the whole bundle on Wal Mart exclusively? Won’t you miss that MONEY that that fan may’ve paid for the same album elsewhere? Especially the INDEPENDENTS!

C’mon, GENE, you KNOW that you love MONEY! ;)

For the last poster... | 7/21/2009, 3:46 pm EST

AC/DC’s deal with exclusively Walmart proved to be a money monster – they raked in a fortune and the album charted higher than anyone expected. Like it or not, the “store exclusive” deal is likely here to stay. They won’t lose any money or sleep over a deal with Walmart, I can guarantee you that, nor should they.

non_amos | 7/21/2009, 11:46 pm EST

Let me say this. IF Paul & Gene are REALLY wanting this to hearken back to their 70’s heyday, then this album needs to also be made available on VINYL!

I mean, they recorded it in analog, right? Musically speaking, they want it to ‘mirror’ the type of music they were putting out through 1977. On top of all of this, they also hired the same guy who did the cover art for ROCK AND ROLL OVER to do this NEW album as well.

SO……….IF Gene & Paul want to REALLY revisit that golden era of theirs, then it is a MUST that this NEW ALBUM also be available on LP RECORD ALBUM! The great cover art the way it SHOULD be, in LP format. The GREAT sound that 180-gram vinyl will provide. Not to mention whatever ‘trinkets’ or ‘paraphenalia’ that will be included INSIDE the LP! Remember that LOVE GUN had a ‘love gun’. ROCK AND ROLL OVER had a sticker sheet of the cover art. And when you really THINK about it, back then an album was MORE than just the tunes on it; it was the ENTIRE experience! To sit there & just take all of that in back in the day was exciting. It was certainly preferable to a CD where EVERYTHING is made small, including the lyrics that you need a magnifying glass to read!

My point? Will WAL MART even CARRY a VINYL version? Best Buy carries some LIMITED vinyl but SPECIALTY stores carry a LOT of vinyl, even the LATEST releases that are just on CD at Wal Mart.

I WANT the NEW LP on……….LP! Will GENE comply with this request?

Izzy Rele | 7/23/2009, 12:15 pm EST

Kiss is Kiss,Love it or hate it. I’ve been a fan since they blew my ears and eyes out on the Paul Lynne Holloween show in ‘76. Seen every tour since and own all the albums. Sure it would be cool to have Peter and Ace around, but they fell off the KISSMONSTER. Thank ROCK N ROLL Eric and Tommy fit the role to help keep KISS rockin. Wow, the grammar of the KISS bashers really speaks volumes. Simply stunning. Anyway, as one poster put it, KISS is KISS, if you don’t like them, oh well. But you writing about them stirs up more publicity for them, so even if you hate them, you’re actually helping them. Ironic huh? Also, learning the proper use of “their” as opposed to “there” would help your cause of ranting on someone. And spell check helps a TON for some people out there.

It’s ok if you don’t like KISS, that’s what makes America so fantastically great, you have that choice. You have that free will. Now what makes it better is that everyone else has that same choice and that same free will. Why waste time and energy to rant stuff about someone you dislike so much and put it to constructive use? Just my .02 worth. That’s two cents for some of you all….

Jim | 7/24/2009, 8:06 am EST

Its funny how so many people have set out to slander KISS with negative comments, but The KISS train started in 1973, and is still chugging in 2009. Pretty damn impressive! I guess they must not suck too bad! Whether you like their act,or not, they are recognized by young, and old alike. That cant even be said for The Beatles, Zeppelin, or Metallica. My 1 1/2 Year Old knows who KISS is.

To dress up scabs as Ace and Peter is enough for me to hand in my kiss army card and give it to my 9 year old, but he’s smart enough to know the difference between…oh lets say the original mona lisa and a…finger painting, which is what Air-ick Singer and Tummy Thayer are. No integrity, no class, no respect for the history, gosh i could go on.
lastly, thank GAWD that simmons isnt in THE WHO…can you imagine what he’d do? Dress some scab up in Entwistles old stage clothes, put a ‘boris the spider’ chain around his neck and say to the audience: “here is ‘the Ox’”???
Speak with your wallets, kiss fans, and buy the new scab kiss cd a few weeks after it comes out so you can get it USED…let simmons
use his own money to buy up the new kiss cd to make it LOOK like it matters.
…I WILL buy a cd and a vinyl copy of Frehleys’ Anomaly…

One doesn’t scrap the car just because the tires go flat.

Ace and Peter have had many chances to get it right and they seem to be continuing their behaviours in one way or another.

Kiss deserves to go forward whether with or without them. I hope the new album goes DIAMOND.

non_amos | 7/26/2009, 2:20 am EST

It’s like I said. For WHATEVER reason Ace & Peter couldn’t seem to handle success ‘back in the day’, hence the self-destructive behavior. Gene & Paul, OTOH, were more business oriented & obviously had more self-control, at least as far as the band was concerned. I even recall on one of the KISS DVDs from years ago where Gene said that HE wasn’t going to be ‘held back’ by such. I believe he was talking about Peter at the time.

And for the HATERS out there, I want you to stop & think a moment. What was KISS originally? Answer: Gene & Paul! They were in the band WICKED LESTER together when finally they basically ‘fired’ the rest of the band even though they had acquired a recording contract! THEN they formed the nucleus of what became KISS. First they ‘recruited’ Peter, then they got Ace. So guys, get your facts straight. I GUESS Gene & Paul just ain’t gonna allow ANYONE to self-destruct the band, whether it be Ace, Peter, or Vinnie Vincent.

And don’t get me wrong. I’m looking forward to Ace’s new album just like KISS’ new album. However, I still believe he & Peter could’ve had a LOT different outcome with the band if THEY had been willing.

And to be fair to Tommy & Eric, have you guys even HEARD them play?! GIMME…..A…..BREAK!!!!! Great musicians are great musicians, & they’re not always named Ace & Peter.

Nuff said! ;)

1) Walmart is the single largest retail provider of music (in physical form). They are also a huge corporation and yield a lot of power because of it. Therefore they can persuade artists to Exclusitivity deals by showing them what kind of publicity and benefits they get from being Exclusive compared to what they won’t get if they’re just another CD in a bin.

A KISS Walmart Exclusive means there will probably be a complete section of KISS merchandise well promoted in all Walmart stores, promotion for the new album that they would not get if they were in a “yeah Walmart carries it too” deal. The Eagles, AC/DC, have set the mark, and KISS is doing what KISS always does, following the trend. The difference with KISS is the merchandising. KISS will probably make more off the deal from the merch they move than from the CD sales.

2) In my opinion, a new KISS album is only mildly interesting. If it’s got some great songs it will be more so. If not, the diehards will buy it in the first week or two and it will drop like a rock after that. The difference between KISS and AC/DC is that AC/DC never alienated it’s core fan base. KISS did that several times, with diversions musically and things like putting Thayer and Singer in Ace’s and Peter’s makeup, etc.

3) No matter what the quality of the album is, a new KISS album only appeals in numbers to a middle-aged audience. Yeah, some of you have kids that like KISS, yada yada, but I’m talking overall numbers here, it’s not like there’s going to be a herd of teenagers flocking to Walmart to buy the new KISS CD.

4) Think about this: KISS is using no outside writers or producers. Why? Take the business point of view, they KNOW the album isn’t going to do huge numbers, and they want to keep as much of the cash as they can. No outside writers/producers means no sharing royalties, more percentage for Gene and Paul and perhaps there’s a small piece that might go to Thayer and Singer if they have songwriting credits. Otherwise, they just get mechanical royalties for performing on the CD. Anyone with knowledge of the way royalties works will tell you that mechanicals don’t pay the bills, it’s all about credits and publishing.

5) New music from Ace is more exciting to me. Not that it’s going to set the world on fire either. The KISS album will probably outsell Ace’s. But it will be more interesting to see what percentage of fans of each are satisfied with the new tracks.

RE: JIM | 7/26/2009, 10:01 am EST

> One doesn’t scrap the car just because the tires go flat.

And one doesn’t replace those tires with tricycle tires and expect the car to work either.

Fan | 7/26/2009, 10:17 am EST

1) Walmart is the largest retail provider of music (physical media anyway) and is also such a huge corporation that they can persuade artists to sign Exclusive deals by showing them the numbers and what they get for it, compared to what Walmart will NOT provide if they just stock the CD in a bin along with every other retailer.

2) Differences between AC/DC and KISS: First, AC/DC never alienated their core fanbase. They’ve always been a hard rock band. KISS on the other hand, took musical departures, members lost focus, they dress up new guys as original members, etc. A new KISS album will not outsell AC/DC’s last one.

3) A KISS Walmart Exclusive is more important to KISS for other reasons. A section of every Walmart store having KISS merchandise for sale, Publicity in Walmart advertsing. KISS will probably profit more from the merchandise aspect of the deal than the CD sales.

4) As a fan, I’m more interested in the new music from Ace. It won’t outsell KISS. But it will be interesting to see the percentage of how many “realistic” fans are happy with the KISS or Ace songs. You have to throw out the sheep and the naysayers.

5) It’s not like there’s going to be a flock of teenagers running to Walmart to buy the new KISS CD. It will appeal to middle-agers. Yeah, you have a kid who likes KISS, yada yada, I’m just talking overall here.

Why does it matter so much if ace and peter are in the band. tommy thayer and eric singer are very talented musicians and if they werent why do they do what they do professionally? eric is in fucking aloce cooper too. obviously he doesnt suck. i understand many are disapointed that its not the originals but if kiss is gunna carry on they gotta do it right. and for those who say kiss sucks, you are entitled to your opinion.
but if they suck why did they sell 100 million albums? and why were they the biggest band in the world in the 70’s? and why does everyone in the world know who they are? and why did all theyre albums go at least gold? and why are they all filthy rich? music is a form of fucking art. if they wanna realease another album more power to them. its how they express their fucking ideas. and some asshole said they steal songs? again wouldnt they not be famous? the drugs your doing are really altering your sense of reality. wake up and welcome to the real world.

Anonymous | 7/27/2009, 6:35 pm EST

Let’s take this one at a time…

“Why does it matter so much if ace and peter are in the band.”

In my opinion the problem isn’t so much that Ace and Peter aren’t in the band, as much as there are two other people dressing like them. To use Paul Stanley’s analogy against him, Paul said something to the effect of “it’s just a uniform like any baseball team wears” Yeah, but the New York Yankees don’t let anyone wear #3. Those characters are an extension of Ace and Peter’s personalities. They are NOT extensions of Thayer’s and Singer’s.

“tommy thayer and eric singer are very talented musicians and if they werent why do they do what they do professionally?”

I’ll meet you half way on that. Singer is a very talented musician. Thayer’s a hack and always will be. And there are plenty of hacks making who “do it professionally.”

“i understand many are disapointed that its not the originals but if kiss is gunna carry on they gotta do it right.”

In my opinion, they did it right in 1980 when Peter left, Eric Carr wore HIS OWN CHARACTER and the band went on. This is not right.

“and for those who say kiss sucks, you are entitled to your opinion.”

Thank you for noticing.

“but if they suck why did they sell 100 million albums?”

DID being the operative word.

“and why were they the biggest band in the world in the 70’s? and why does everyone in the world know who they are?”

They were the first band to really BRAND themselves, and your second question goes back to what I’ve already said about the characters being extensions of the musicians who created them. Mass audiences do not know who Singer and Thayer are. They know Ace and Peter.

“and why did all theyre albums go at least gold?”

Splitting hairs possibly, but several KISS albums did NOT go gold.

“and why are they all filthy rich?”

Go back and read the part about MARKETING.

“music is a form of fucking art.”

yes it is, but there’s a lot of shitty artists in the world too (KISS haters insert your favorite Paul Stanley remark here).

“if they wanna realease another album more power to them.”

It is America. They have that right. I have the right to decide what to buy or not too.

“its how they express their fucking ideas.”

Whatever.

“and some asshole said they steal songs?”

steal is a harsh word. I don’t think that Paul Stanley has had an original idea musically since about 1982 though, and Gene long before that. The stories of them adding their names to other people’s songs in order to record them and pocket a bigger piece of the pie is legendary though. Do a search on Brian Adams and Jim Vallance sometime and see what Gene did to deserve credit on Rock And Roll Hell.

“again wouldnt they not be famous?”

One has nothing to do with the other.

“the drugs your doing are really altering your sense of reality. wake up and welcome to the real world”

Truly adult of you.

I belive that all you out there whineing and crying have nothing else better to do but try and piss off us fans. Good,Bad,or ugly you stick with a band through the ups and downs. I know Ace and Peter are the original line up but when they reunited peter was haveing trouble with carpel tunnel and he said if I remember after some of the shows he would have to soke his hands because of the pain. As for Ace I think he just didn’t want to be a part of the group anymore so he could do his own thing doesn’t mean there is still bad blood sometimes things just get routine. So lets not be so hard on Tommy and Eric it is not there fault that Gene and Paul would like to keep the dream alive. Come on can you honestly say that if you were approached by Paul or Gene and they said I would like you to become a member of KISS you would not jump at that chance “your a damn lier if you said no” So quit bitchin and just be glad they are still around if they were not you all would be crying I wish they would get back together. Well news flash they did and they made another album Psycho Circus and all you people did was bitch about how awful it was so why should the origanal continue when you crapped on them the way you did. This is just my opinion and I know what they say about those but really if your that sore about all they have done just walk away It is called marketing and kudos to gene for trying to milk everything he can from it as long as there are people willing to buy why stop the money machine.Dosn’t mean you have to buy it or do you because your addicted and that is why you are mad.

Personally, I’m ready for a new KISS album. I think that KISS is a great band that cares about its fans. If they do a deal with Wal-Mart, their album will be a lot cheaper than say, Best Buy or some chain record store in the mall.

I mean, c’mon people, KISS are icons. They are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, yet, more people know and have heard them than most of the artists in there. And you can’t bag on Gene for being money oriented. He’s always stated that he is and will never sway from that. I admire that honesty. Tommy and Eric are great musicians so screw all of the “they’re trying to play Ace adn Peter crap.” They have their own distinct sounds and they bring a lot to the KISS fold. I mean, everyone was talking this same anti-KISS, they’re over crap back in the 90s and then they released Revenge (which ended up being one of the best hard rock albums of the 90s). I hope that happens again. As a fan, I love their work. Their older music stands up next to the junk out today and can hold its own. Don’t know too many other bands that can do that. Do you?

tspring | 8/6/2009, 1:37 pm EST

“my fave band rocks, and your fave band sucks,”….”this guy is great, that guy sucks.”
Enough!!! When the new cd comes out and you decide you like the music, buy it. If you think its gonna suck simply because it KISS, then don’t buy it. If you want a KISS bathroom mat, buy one. If you think its stupid to buy KISS M&M’s, the spend your money on Reeses Pieces.

KISSFansince'76 | 8/6/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Well, it’s been fun reading all of the comments from the KISS bashers. They have no tolerance of any music but their own, and that’s too bad. But why do they spend so much time and energy bashing something they just don’t understand?

And just because I’ve been a KISS fan for over 30 years doesn’t mean I’ve agreed with everything the band has done. I haven’t, and I don’t know of a fan who has. But, by the same token, it doesn’t mean that I’ve abandoned the music that has come to mean so much to me and millions of other die-hard fans. It’s the same reason I’m an Oakland Raiders fan. I haven’t abandoned them either, even though they’re not the same team that they were back in the bad ‘ol days of the ’70’s.

KISS bashers can take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut, as far as I’m concerned.

To me, a true test of a band is how well they do in concert. Those of you who bash KISS obviously haven’t seen them live, and probably aren’t aware of what the KISS machine has pioneered in the art of live shows.

Tell me something, KISS bashers. If KISS is such a crappy band, then why in the hell do so many bands claim them as an influence, and why do so many bands emulate them in concert?

Kiss Army | 8/6/2009, 3:12 pm EST

I have one thing to say.
The Kiss Army are in the Millions all over the world, why, because they wanted the best and they got the best. KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And are still getting THE BEST :}
Now yall just keep complaining Gene loves it. (the blakdimon)

JLF | 8/7/2009, 4:16 pm EST

My issue with the band these days is that they are a glorified tribute band. Take off the make-up and be KISS 2009, not an imitation of it’s 1970’s self. The reason why the Revenge era is so highly regarded is because KISS were musically relevant then. Kulick and Singer were amazing players in their own right and there was no reason to emulate or imitate a bye-gone era. I see no reason why they can’t be successful again doing the same with Thayer and Singer. Even with the Ace and Peter dress up show, they still can’t headline an amphitheater on their own!!! They had to tour with Aerosmith and Poison to do that.

demon within 78 | 8/7/2009, 4:33 pm EST

the kiss army? whats that all about? did gene go to dinner with you?
did paul sit down and jam with you?
in return you get songs that are what–2.5 minutes long?
and albums that are loaded with crappy filler songs/ sooo why are you a kiss army fan? what did the commanders do for you?

demon within 78 | 8/7/2009, 4:55 pm EST

im not really a kiss basher
they had some good tunes but a really really lot of bad oncs
most albums had 1 or 2 good solid tunes the rest fillers
i hate to admit this but i thought revenge was a great effort
to bad they bought most of the material from songwritters it really to bad. cant you see they cant deliver. they never could, and when they did it was what 2.5 minute songs and the rest fillers. they put on a great show!!! but i cant listen to a show. so why cant i listen to a great album? because they cant deliver an album thats truely something that they wrote themselves and only themselves.

for those who feel kiss should violently end it their lives because of age or whatever why don’t you put a gun to your head and call it quits! thats just being stupid. If kiss wants to record an album and be proud of their talent then go jerk off somewhere else. The band members have aged but the music gets stronger and better, and people love it. Its not like rap music where its all about shoot the homies, get up in here, take some drugs, beat your girl up, smack that bitch, shoot the person, rape, murder whatever. That’s not talent. That’s someone who has no skills to be a better person in life….

I guess that Ace’s new album will be available EVERYWHERE! We can take some comfort in that. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Ace’s album doesn’t even rival the new KISS album in sales. I mean, they’re BOTH being promoted online & both are NEW albums, NOT yet again ANOTHER compilation. The compilations probably barely registered a pulse. Even by Ace. But we may see a different ballgame this time around.

Yeah, & I like independents & there’s not NEARLY ENOUGH of them! AND they sell vinyl too. I bet Ace will release Anomaly on vinyl but I’ve yet to get a response as to whether KISS will or not!

But I won’t bash Ace for still trying and I wish best of luck to anyone who after 30+ years in the buisness has enough heart to continue trying to give their fans one more reason to enjoy a love of music. What happens overseas were we do not have Wall Mart? Will this be exlusive to Americans? Maybe Gene is not in it for the money this time!

I love Eric Singer, but not in Peter’s make up. Man it’s like not getting over an Ex wife that leaves so you make the new one wear her outfits and change the colour of her hair to look like the last one. Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent at least had their own personality. Originaly Eric Singer was just filling in for Peter to end the farewell tour. That seams kind of reasonable. Then Tommy had to fill in for Ace who pulled out of the Symphony show. That was 6 years ago. If the make up had come off then and they toured for a new album I think they would still be alot more respected. I wish Ace had not sold his make up rights to the others. Remeber when they could not use his make up on the kids face on the cover of KISS My Ass? That was a blessing in descise.

Huh... | 9/24/2009, 5:11 am EST

I’ve been a KISS fan since second grade when I overheard my cousin listening to Destroyer. I was heart-broken with the loss of the original line-up and the sad excuse for music that was Unmasked and the Elder. Even Creatures of the Night, though in retrospect that is a fairly awesome record. Then came Lick It Up and Animalize. Those got me. Following records were OK, then came Revenge which I thought was fantastic. Then Psycho Circus, and I realized with that record maybe things weren’t as good as we remember them. I listened to Sonic Boom grudgingly, VERY grudgingly. But, you know, I have to say it’s pretty good. Not along the lines of Destroyer or Love Gun, but not nearly as bad as Psycho Circus. Nope, Tommy Thayer isn’t Ace Frehley, nor is he Bruce Kulick. Eric Singer isn’t Peter Criss (he’s actually a better drummer as was Eric Carr). All in all, it’s a surprisingly good effort.

Get over it people! At least KISS have given us fans soooo many live gigs as well as solo tours… wake up! As a fan I am happy about the fact the band is doing something new – with Tommy and Eric I’m betting that this will actually be a good thing! Simply, I’m glad my favourite band is creating something again.

Mate I had the pleasure of watching the guys rehearse before both the Symphony and Grand prix shows and let me tell you they were as awesome out of “uniform” as they are in them….
I really dont understand all the hate???

For me Kiss has been a big part of my life and I thank them for still being “Hotter than hell”

Why are you guys so negative? I liked Psycho Circus and I look forward to this new record too. Sure, I wish it was all four original members, but I’ll take a new Kiss studio album over no album.

demon within 78 | 11/14/2009, 2:18 pm EST

HOW TO PUT THIS? sonic doom is not very good.if you listen to the leads, tommy is just playing old school ace leads. well ace plays a lot different now. i dont think tommy could keep up with ace. anomaly is so much better.
ask any real musician. my rating is to thumbs up for ANOMALY. one thumb down for sonic doom
