Seems to me like it’s only fair for the Australian lady to get the rights, since she has been doing it longer, and it’s her real name. They need to get a reality check if they think a sane judge will look at this and go “Yeah, that makes sense, two people with very common names that have a spelling differentiation shouldn’t be allowed to share such names. And who gives a crap that Katie-with-an-IE has had her name since birth, she’s not famous! Never mind that “Katy Perry” isn’t even Katy-with-a-Y’s legal name! Or that people barely knew her a year ago and she’s not as big and important as she thinks she is!” Meanwhile, the designer launched her company under her name long before “I Kissed A Girl” hit the airwaves. Katy-with-a-Y was just one shoddy record deal away from being unable to file such a ridiculous lawsuit. Her album hasn’t even done that well and she already thinks she’s it. This reminds me of the time the hockey team the Minnesota Wild tried to sue by stopping a magazine entitled Wild from using that name, even though it has been on the magazine stands long before the hockey team came along. You know, in terms of the dumbest lawsuits ever, this ranks right up there with the judge who sued the dry cleaners for $67 million because they lost his pants, and therefore mislead him with the “Satisfaction Guaranteed” sign hanging outside their window.
