Fred Durst: Limp Bizkit Was Used as “Fuel to Torture Other People”

6/18/09, 3:12 pm EST

Before Limp Bizkit emerged from a four-year hiatus with a series of shows last month in Europe, Fred Durst had to get over his hatred of a segment of his own fanbase. “I got abused a lot growing up,” Durst tells Rolling Stone. “For years I looked into the crowd and saw a bunch of bullies and assholes who tortured me and ruined my life. They were using my music as fuel to torture other people, even dressing like me. The music was being misinterpreted and the irony effected me and we stepped away.”

According to Durst, he endured childhood ridicule over his taste in music. “I loved the Cure and Bauhaus and the Smiths,” he says. “The people in my town weren’t privy to that kind of music and I got abused. I discovered the microphone to get out some of that angst.” Durst put down the microphone in 2005 and directed two feature films, before reuniting with guitarist Wes Borland and the rest of Limp Bizkit earlier this year. “I realized after years and years that I can’t take all of that on my shoulders,” he says. “I can just hope for the best and hope that my music finds its way to the people that I’m trying to connect with. There’s some people who are not understanding what Limp Bizkit is about. But, then again, who am I to tell people what they can use art for or how they can interpret it?”

Even though Durst is hoping his music won’t connect with bullies, Limp Bizkit are playing their first American show with guitarist Wes Borland in eight years at an Ultimate Fighting Championship event July 10th in Las Vegas. “I’ve just always liked watching people who are very skilled in all different types of fighting, going to engage with a little less boundaries,” says Durst. “These fights are put together in an organized way. I wouldn’t support Limp Bizkit being on some snuff backyard brawling, fighting contest.” The Vegas show is a one-off, but Durst promises the band is thinking about a U.S. tour, which won’t happen until they’re done prepping a new album they hope to release in the fall.

“The style is not going to disappoint any true, hardcore Limp Bizkit fans,” Durst says. “But it also isn’t going to alienate anyone that else who is going to discover Limp Bizkit for the first time. It’s kinda going to change the game a little bit, but still stay Limp Bizkit — if that makes any sense.”

Even as he crafts a new Bizkit album, Durst says that rap/rock isn’t very close to his heart. “I don’t even listen to any type of music that’s like Limp Bizkit at all,” he says. “I love jazz music and sad music. I’m a sentimental guy. I’m a romantic guy. I’m 38 years old and Limp Bizkit is just something I do. If I was a painter, it would just be a type of painting I make. Some people love it, and its offends a lot of people too.”

Sure Fred, why not call a song called “Nookie” that contained the lyrics “It’s all about the Nookie, so you can take that cookie and shove it up your” is definatly art.

DGG | 6/18/2009, 4:01 pm EST

So he doesn’t like the bullies and insensitive people in his audience, but his next show will be at some event were guys pummel each other, uh huh.

Joe | 6/18/2009, 4:06 pm EST

Fred Durst realizing how ridiculous he has looked over the years and trying to sound legitimate..

Denton | 6/18/2009, 4:10 pm EST

I always thought listening to Limp Bizkit was torture.

The Music Elitist | 6/18/2009, 4:11 pm EST

So if he liked music like The Smiths and The Cure, why didn’t he just join/start a band that made music more similar to his tastes? Why did he have to succumb the rest of Jacksonville’s white trash jock rock taste in music? (*cough*Shinedown*cough*) I know Borland has decent taste in music and that was part of the reason he left Bizkit in the first place.

Blah | 6/18/2009, 4:18 pm EST

Fred, you loved bullies when your records were selling. You incited 200,000 people to set shit on fire at Woodstock. You hate bullies, you out to look in the mirror sometime. And yes, don’t make your comeback at an event where people beat the shit out of each other. At least that guy from Korn tried to find Jesus.

APR | 6/18/2009, 4:25 pm EST

Oh leave the guy alone! What’s it to you anyway? You obviously don’t like him or Limp Bizkit, so why post anything? Get a life!

S.O. | 6/18/2009, 5:11 pm EST

When LB was at the height of it all, he’d always say he was all into Rap, hip/hop, hard rock, metal, & Nirvana. Now he says he was into The Smiths, The Cure, & Bauhaus? Fred Durst is a total hyocrite!!

S.O. | 6/18/2009, 5:13 pm EST

oops, I mean Fred Durst is a total Hypocrite!!!

hmmm | 6/18/2009, 5:44 pm EST

i find it ironic that a lot of people who criticize Durst’s lyrics listen to Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas… who’s lyrics compare pretty well with “Nookie”

Matt | 6/18/2009, 5:51 pm EST

Fred Durst is still alive, and people still listen to Limp Bizkit? News to me.

Anonymous | 6/18/2009, 5:56 pm EST

Fred Durst is a frat boy just like the douche bags that went ape-shit for “Rollin”, “Nookie”, and all the other date rape soundtracks LB cranked out. Sorry, name dropping the Smiths wont convince people your anything other than that. Borland must need to make a house payment as he was the only one in LB with a shred of talent.

matt in farmers branch | 6/18/2009, 6:05 pm EST

Man he’s looking older. I can’t really see a guy that old doing his same schtick now. I hope the new album is heavy and not so goofy.

I must say, Limp Bizkit was the shit back when they first came out. I still listen to Counterfeit every so often. In fact, I remember seeing Cypress Hill and Limp Bizkit on their free Napster tour back in 98 (?). FREE CONCERT. When was the last time something like that happened???

drlarrymitchell | 6/18/2009, 6:06 pm EST

As Trent Reznor put it: “Fred Durst can surf a piece of plywood right up my ass.”

egos | 6/18/2009, 6:07 pm EST

who cares?

Rucky | 6/18/2009, 6:16 pm EST

I would rather be forced to go see that fruit cake Jesse and the 8th street kids reunion than a Limp reunion concert. And I would choose setting my balls on fire right before being hit by a train before I saw a Jesse reunion, so that does not fair well for me buying a Limp ticket.

Michael | 6/18/2009, 6:32 pm EST

Every time I read an article on rollingstone.com I make sure to scroll down to browse through all the hatred-spewing posts that the fucking dorky music snobs post on this site. You all need to get a life. Limp Bizkit was one of the pioneers of the “rock/rap” phase that took over America in the late 90’s and their only crime is that they still didn’t sparkle and fade as quickly as the others did. Give them a fucking break. I’ll admit, Fred will never be an exceptional songwriter, but I still will tip my cap to this bad for their albums I listened to as a kid. For all you dorks out there that only think Animal Collective and Fleet Foxes are music, go fucking cry somewhere else about Limp Bizkit coming back.

Joe 2 | 6/18/2009, 6:37 pm EST

Yeah, I dont see how anyone can “misinterpret” “Break Stuff” as a song used to fuel torture of others. Fred Durst=dooshbag to the highest degree. Worst vocalist ever.

stupid fred durst | 6/18/2009, 6:39 pm EST

,,,,,um,,,the way he holds the “mike” makes me feel funny “down there”.

Red | 6/18/2009, 6:53 pm EST

I know nothing about LB. Thank God I didn’t invest in their music & concert tickets to only hear the leader say is was all an act; that he’s not into that. You’d never hear Jagger say he doesn’t like “Satisfaction”. LB fans should be pissed.

Lookie Cookie Not Nookie | 6/18/2009, 6:54 pm EST

LB is a major vanguard of the death of rock’n'roll music and culture around the turn of the century. Rap too has been in a long decline. LB is another milestone in the dumbing down of America, and look at all the stupidity that has dominated this 21st century inpractically everything up to about now. Go away Fred Durst and all you limp lunkheaded zeroes. It’s time to take out the TRASH.

chris | 6/18/2009, 7:00 pm EST

Well said Micheal…now go back to doing jager-bombs and blowing your frat bros while “mr. brightside” plays in the background.

Re: Micheal | 6/18/2009, 7:06 pm EST

Uh…no. 311 had been doing that shit for years before. So was rage against the Machine. Only thing Limp did was make it into pop. Terrible chapter in music that should never be reopened.

curmudgeon | 6/18/2009, 7:37 pm EST

Fred Durst should just come out of the closet. His band is called “Limp Bizkit.” First E.P. called “3 Dollar Bill Y’all.” And then “Chocolate Starfish…” Just admit it Fred, you’re a peter puffer.

That reminds me of another bunch of knuckleheads… Tool. Get it? Tool. And all their songs about buttholes. Christ, they named an album Aenima.

I’m into metaphors and all. But what’s the big hang-up with buttholes fellas? hmmm?

tom | 6/18/2009, 8:20 pm EST

Fred,

Your band and its energy ruined the idea of Woodstock. I blame you for the rioting.

That Guy NZ | 6/18/2009, 8:52 pm EST

Limp Bizkit is to rock/rap (or whatever you want to call it)what rappers like Soulja Boy are to Hip Hip. They have/are killing something which is an art and dumbing it down for kids who don’t know any better! As a result people who listened to this sh*t when they were 16 are now in there 20’s and think this is how music should be. Durst pretty much admits here that’s he’s not even a fan of their old stuff!!!. Fred Durst playing the tortured musician? C’mon, the guy that money off the back of “I did it all for the nookie, the nookie, So you can take that cookie, And stick it up your…” Get the Fark outta here!!!!

F the comments | 6/18/2009, 8:54 pm EST

It’s good to see the LB back in full swing and i doubt they will have the old sound because basically rap-rock is dead. Everyone has the Vanilla Ice Syndrome nowadays. They rocked it, now they hate it. To all you fruitcakes crying about Fred Durst, go up to your bedroom and pop in your
Adam Lambert mp3’s and cry yourself to sleep.

Black Hole Sun | 6/18/2009, 9:44 pm EST

Never liked Fred Durst or his “band” to begin with, and no matter what he says about their upcoming record, it will most likely suck as always. And for someone who’s boo-hooing about bullies, he’s never behaved any differently himself. Like claiming he slept with every late 90s pop star when everyone knows he didn’t (even the former Mrs. K-Fed thought Fred was too white trash for her) didn’t help with his already-dwindling credibility. He’s just a relic of the late 90s, and should remain that way for the sake of music. There’s already enough crap on the radio, I don’t know who told him we needed more. In order for that record sell, he’s gonna have to change the band’s name, make themselves utterly unrecognizable and make an album so good it could stand toe to toe with the greats, like Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones. Of course, that would require talent, and I don’t think even Auto-Tune could fix that…

ewuio,m | 6/18/2009, 9:53 pm EST

good for him. seriously.

looking at the pic of Fred that accompanies this article gives Big Dumb Face a whole new meaning. highlights: irony “effects” Fred, he “discovered” the microphone ( i know, i know – it’s a figure of speech, but poorly elocuted), he’s a sentimental guy… the kind that suggests you take a cookie and stick up your – yeah!, his fans – the ones he dismisses with rockstar contempt – even dress like him (gasp, how dare they?

Captain Molotov | 6/19/2009, 12:45 am EST

I’ll admit, this little piece made me think slightly more of Fred Durst and made him sound like less of douchebag than I previously thought. I gained a small ounce of respect for him.

That said, Limp Bizkit still sucks. Straight-up sucks balls.

I’m happy to see Limp Bizkit making a comeback. It’s about time we get some music that is not made by a pretentious bunch of pussies! Fred has come back to destroy emo(homo)music and make some shit that we all can fucking jam to…death to all sissy boys who wear pants that belong on women!

Jack | 6/19/2009, 3:53 am EST

“Nookie” sure was pretty fucking popular considering NOBODY likes Limp Bizkit…ALL OF YOU PEOPLE ARE LIARS! Fuck you, you retarded hypocritical dipshits! Keep telling yourself that you never liked a band you more than likely own 2 to 3 albums from. You’re all posers!!! The lot of you!

Ed Ucation | 6/19/2009, 7:52 am EST

HAHA. Limp Bizkit is the perfect rock band, and you all need to either lighten up or stick your Lady Gaga cover stories up your asses.

Nick | 6/19/2009, 8:33 am EST

“Change the game”, huh? So you’re taking out the rapping. Who cares, you still can’t sing worth a shit, Fred.

He’s coming off of two back-to-back duds, and Results May Vary is one of the biggest disasters in music history. Not just because it totally sucked and didn’t sell, but because of the whole guitar player contest disaster and the band getting booed off of stage at that festival.

Nu Metal is in the same spot as Hair Metal: maybe they’d have some success touring as a nostalgia act (although it is too early for that now) but they will never get success from new music ever again. Especially with the staggering lack of talent Limp Bizkit have.

*Patent Pending

your mom | 6/19/2009, 9:46 am EST

Wow. The fact that an obscure blog entry about one entry on Fred Durst can cause so many comments is a testament to….. uh, something.

Does Fred realize that when you listen to bands incessantly you REFLECT THEIR INFLUENCE IN YOUR OWN MUSIC?? Yes, I have seen him wearing a Smiths T-Shirt. But what possible connection is there between the two groups. How in the world does his band resemble the Cure? He tried to be street when he was a VP at his record company. If he really wants to be taken seriously as if his band has something to say, then he will kill his brand, I mean band, and rebuild it to reflect something more interesting. Getting booed offstage for being who you are is a helluva lot more respectful than being cheered for who you aren’t.

And for the record, music fans, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Faith No More set up Rap/Rock in the late 80s. LB did NOT establish anything in the genre. They were a one-hit wonder with “Faith” that got their career extended by Durst’s connections in the business. NOTHING they’ve done can be seen as “important.” Unless you count starting a riot at Woodstock.

your mom | 6/19/2009, 9:49 am EST

And Red Hot Chili Peppers and Faith no More were influenced by Bad Brains and Black Flag and other early “vocalist” groups and genres that mixed black and white music together first. (Ultimately beginning with regaae and punk in the 70s, as well as John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa working together, etc.)

Jason | 6/19/2009, 11:03 am EST

I don’t get it.

For someone who grew up tortured by bullies and supposedly so into the Cure and the Smiths, you’d never be able to tell just by listening to the music and the lyrics.

Hell, they might have been a tolerable band, if he’d just stop trying to rap and his lyrics weren’t so idiotic…

Durst needs to just disappear and so does the rest of the talentless hacks that surround Borland.
And @Jason: Rap/Rock has more of a root in The Clash and/or RATM then Limp Bizkit… what’s The Clash you ask? Look them up, that’s a band with f***ing talent.

tbone | 6/19/2009, 2:09 pm EST

Rock reunions are always a bad idea, no matter who’s involved, but he’s about 10 years early if he wants to make any money. You have to wait until your core audience is about to hit 40 – like the hair bands from the 80’s trying to make comebacks now. It’s like an open casket at a funeral – we’d all rather remember the deceased when he/she was young and relevant, rather than a shriveled old version of a former self.

Durst was “tortured” for his tastew in music? How out of touch is this guy?!? “Tortured”? I was bullied as a kid for being short and scrawny. I know people who were bullied because of the color of their skin, or because their parents could not afford to buy them trendy clothes… bullied over musical tastes? COME ON!!! Your taste in music is a choice, something you can hide if you really want to. Being small, or black, or poor is something that, as a child, you cannot change. It’s “torture” just dealing with their reality for a lot of people. And Durst wants to be viewed as a heroic survivor because he liked punk music?!? Durst can take his cookie and shove it up his ass.

I find it nearly unfathomable that someone out there actually believes Limp Bizkit pioneered rap/rock. Are you kidding me? Your ignorance is staggering. Limp Bizkit is a poor man’s Rage Against The Machine, but with uninspired lyrics or meaning. The funniest thing that ever happened to that band was when Durst had a feud with Scott Stapp. Which is hilarious because he’s the leader of a Creed, a poor man’s Pearl Jam. Funny that the imitators all fell apart quickly…

People:

1. MMA is a credible sport, that is highly technical and not for boneheads. This stuff was created in Japan as a means of survival. I have an MBA, I am fluent in Japanese, and actively participate in MMA. Stereotyping people on an online thread is what little girls who listen to emo music do. Listen to an AC DC album and stop shaving your chest.

2. Rage Against the Machine, maybe you should discuss this with your elders. Run DMC and Public Enemy did this before Zach De La Rocha was out of diapers. Rage is awesome but the truth needs to be told. Limp bizkit did help it reach the masses. Look at the albums sales vs. PE, RATM, Run DMC. So, the guy before has a point. Pioneer is a heavy title but they definitely

3. Deftone. Totally Agree.

4. Early Limp Bizkit was great. The demo version of 3 dollar bill was ridiculously good. Things just went downhill but still had the guilty pleasure appeal.

5. I am 31 years old. I wore cross colors in junior high which is embarassing. I am sure all of you went out and got Addidas shoes when Korn got big. I think people should give Fred Durst the opportunity to rebound from the red yankee hat era.

6. rhymesayers.com – Atmosphere is better than anything on this thread.

The people who are defending Limp Bizkit and their music are morons! I keep hearing you say that your sick of the whinny music out right now! I got a idea quit trying to find music on mtv and radio. There are a lot of amazing heavy bands out there that dont rap but definetly rock! Go buy a Sword or Big Buisness album and quit listening to some little goffy guy that wears a red hat backwards! Quit being sheep and look for new music, its out there.

Fred basically just copied everything Chino did from his “fashion” to his vocal stylings. Funny thing is as soon as LB came out Deftones switched it up and dropped “Rap/Rock” and gave us the masterpiece that is “White Pony”, LB gave us “chocolate starfish and whatever….”

If anything they sewage they cobbled together made the label “rap/rock” the kiss of death and undermined some quality music by other groups that happened to get lumped in with these retards.

I can totally see where Durst is coming from. I mean the hole shit bout being bullied, ridiculed and all that, and the hole thing with him walking away because people were mistreating the music.I am a musician, and i would absolutely hate it if my music was used in a way that it wasn’t intended to be used in. Music, like other form of art, has a great power, some people unfortunately manipulate that power for there own personal gain, and thus we have all the problems with my generation doing drugs, abusing alcohol and committing suicide. I get pissed off at people who manipulate something for there own personal gain, which causes someone else pain. Something MUST be done to end it. Durst seems like a guy who has had it tough, and obliviously he does not want anyone else to have to go through with that shit. believe me, life can be hard and really shitty, but if you can overcome it, you will be a better person, and then there is only one thing you can do, help others to overcome there problems. I want to help people through music, if i only help one person then i know i have done good, the more i can help the better. and i think that is exactly the way Durst sees it to.

Uh-Oh | 6/20/2009, 12:36 am EST

Hey guys, if you ever decide to have kids, do NOT name them William. Here’s why:

William Bruce Rose Jr.— Axl Rose

William Patrick Corgan Jr.— Billy Corgan

William Frederick Durst— Fred Durst

So there you go. Unless you want your kid to grow up to be a crappy musician who gets lucky with success but somehow manages to sabotage his own self with his outrageous antics and over-bloated ego and eventually becomes the most hated person in music, don’t name them William.

Ray | 6/20/2009, 2:24 am EST

Oh,c’mon.Compare Durst to ANYONE but Axl! That is completely ridiculous.Axl is Axl,but he’s also a terrific frontman, and despite any crappy blog’s you read, did the Gnr name justice with “Chinese Democracy”.As for Durst, well … As much as I hate Bizkit,at least he seem’s to be a decent human being.Ironic that I always viewed him as a “bully”,when in fact it was the complete opposite. So he was picked on growing up,and walked away from the business because he saw the same assholes embracing his music? Okay,I respect that.He sound’s sincere.Give him a break.

dude | 6/20/2009, 3:30 am EST

“That reminds me of another bunch of knuckleheads… Tool. Get it? Tool. And all their songs about buttholes. Christ, they named an album Aenima. ”

Its clear that you don’t know what you’re talking about. hater

dude | 6/20/2009, 3:38 am EST

nevermind i missed the part where you acknowledged that they’re all mostly metaphors.

they are kinda silly eh. the lead singer is just a strange fella, but he’s still a badass.

Anonymous | 6/20/2009, 4:14 am EST

bizkit rule leave them alone

Greg | 6/20/2009, 4:50 am EST

The only reason why you hate Limp Bizkit, is becauseit’s a cool thing to do these days. Just like eight years ago you thought it was cool to be “rollin” in front of MTV with a baseball cap on your head. So don’t kid yourself. And I find it even more funny how you all are saying that you don’t care about Limp Bizkit, yet you’re reading articles about them and than leave pathetic replies. Hell, if I don’t like a band, I keep it to myslef and don’t make a big thing out of it. I hate pop and emo bands, yet I don’t go out on a hate crusade on the internet trolling articles about them! Jeeez, grow up already.

CoryCory | 6/20/2009, 10:48 am EST

Apparently, most of you have been living under a rock for the past 15 years. It’s always been cool to hate Limp Bizkit and nu-metal as a whole. They’re a bunch of annoying fucks who put out a shitty genre of music that didn’t even outlast disco before falling off the map.

And saying The Sword is underground music is like saying ICP is underground music. You can get it at Best Buy. Go listen to some Sabbath, Motorhead, or Durst’s aformentioned jazz and be done with it.

stupid Greg | 6/20/2009, 12:01 pm EST

,,,,,,if you dont like what people are saying about Limp DouchBag, then dont read it and then write a dumbass reply,,,,grow up you putz.

CIES | 6/20/2009, 12:16 pm EST

haters, haters, shut up and take your hating somewhere else. no one cares if you hate limp bizkit and fred durst. if you hate him/them so much then don’t read the post and respond to how bad he is. his “crap art” as you would put it, has probably sold more than you will make in a lifetime. so once again go take your hate out on someone else. go beat your wife or girlfriend cause no one else gives a damn what you hate.

Acronimous | 6/20/2009, 8:53 pm EST

Why couldn’t he say he was bullied when he was young cuz he was F-A-T?

Mr. C | 6/20/2009, 9:33 pm EST

Ladies and Gentlemen…announcing Creeds opening act, Limp Bizkit!!

Just think…they could call it the “Return of Shit-Rock” tour.

I will pray for this as I love a good hard laugh.

d'yerman | 6/20/2009, 9:58 pm EST

So some kid grew up listening to the Smith’s, Cure, and Bauhaus all the while being “tortured” by bullies grew up to write “Nookie” and “Rolling”? And now you listen to jazz.
Umm, yeah, you really are a real “artiste” there. What a tool.

SOMETHING TO TAKE NOTICE OF... | 6/20/2009, 11:23 pm EST

I just want to post a quote from Fred, then answer.

“They were using my music as fuel to torture other people, even dressing like me. The music was being misinterpreted and the irony effected me and we stepped away.”

Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit DIDN’T “step away”, they were a trend that over time became REJECTED. How can Fred say that he “stepped away” when Limp Bizkit had their OWN TV SHOW on MTV for the making of “Results May Vary”… Remember that? They did that because their sales TANKED and they tried to get back in the spotlight… When it didn’t work he started to say they “stepped away”…

What a phony, he’s such a good liar he should give up music and be a politician.

SOMETHING ELSE TO NOTICE... | 6/20/2009, 11:26 pm EST

““I loved the Cure and Bauhaus and the Smiths,”

FRED: And you grew up to be a rapper? Those were the bands you listened to… Bands that never rapped, that didn’t even try. And you grew up to rap? You’re fooling no one you phony.

Anonymous | 6/21/2009, 1:40 am EST

no, the reason people hate lb is not because it’s “cool” but because they genuinely suck and make music for for people who watch wwe and fuck their siblings.

this is science.

Freds gotta be loving this though, must make him feel relevant again.

Anonymous | 6/21/2009, 12:12 pm EST

Limp Bizkit are never going to fly as high as they did around the time of Chocolate Starfish… back then it was corny, now its just sad.

Still, listening to Nookie still gets me amped!

hey | 6/21/2009, 1:35 pm EST

Limp Bizkit : Stepped Away ::

You Can’t Fire me : I quit!!

VFed | 6/21/2009, 8:01 pm EST

Another thing I just realized:

I used to read a lot of music magazines when I was in high school (when Limp was still popular), and I don’t ever remember reading ONE SINGLE INTERVIEW with Durst talking about Bauhaus or the Cure. And I used to read them ALL…

Hole | 6/22/2009, 9:31 am EST

Why would you listen to LB when you could listen to Rage?

bebe de pecho | 6/22/2009, 10:13 am EST

man dont cry forget about it!

Pedro | 6/22/2009, 10:15 am EST

Limp bizkit has some great songs… just as long they try to label themselves as rap-rock, everything will be fine. Rap-rop sucked, their hits were not even rap rock. PS: I hate rap, I rather listen to reggae, techno, punk, pop, jazz, WHATEVER

Fozzie Bear | 6/22/2009, 12:00 pm EST

Faith No More, Anthrax, Rage Against the Machine, Cypress Hill, Public Image Limited, even Linkin Park all blow away LB even at their “finest hour”, which was probably a cover of the Who.

Matt | 6/22/2009, 12:05 pm EST

Actually, the people that say the other band members were talentless are wrong. Sam Rivers is a pretty good bass player. He’s not Flea or Rob Trujillo, but he’s pretty good. And John Otto is actually a fabulous drummer. Just never really got much of a chance to showcase himself.

MLB | 6/22/2009, 12:25 pm EST

Is Fred still “New Era committed”? ‘Cause we gonna have to sue his ass.

Scott | 6/22/2009, 12:29 pm EST

Holy shit this is awesome, I don’t know about any of you but to me this is great, I’ve been a LB fan since Significant Other, over 9 fucking years. I’m so tired of all this emo shit coming out, American Idols coming out of the closet, its so fucking repetitive and gay, its about time LB came back. Sure Chocolate was probably the worst LB album ever, but damn, would you rather listen to Adam Lambert or some shit? Fuck you assholes who hate them, Chocolate went diamond (25x Platinum) for fucks sake! Sell more than 40 million albums then talk shit about Fred.

Steve | 6/22/2009, 12:36 pm EST

Let us not forget that the late nineties were a terrrible time for music in general and these guys were leaders of that whole crap scene. There was some good music coming out as there always is but the majority was garbage. Rap Metal was an atrocity and I hate seeing Rage Against the Machine lumped into this genre as they were nothing like these guys. RATM was both innovative and brilliant and sang about things that actually mattered. 9/11, as terrible as it was at least killed this buble gum-metal-rap scene as music once again started to mean something. Terrible that it took such a horrible event to do it but looking back at history it always tends to be the case.

Sad | 6/22/2009, 1:59 pm EST

Fred Durst was bullied. He hates that some of his fans are bullies. He wrote a song about “breaking shit”. He’s doing a show at a UFC event. He doesn’t listen to rap/rock.

What a jackass.

The Cure | 6/22/2009, 6:54 pm EST

u never listened to us, cocksucker

NeatBeatz | 6/22/2009, 8:09 pm EST

“Would you rather listen to Adam Lambert or some shit?”

Hell yeah, I would! Adam Lambert is talented, which is so much more than I could EVER say about Fred Durst. And that last I checked, Brian May didn’t offer Fred to sing for Queen, which would actually be more direspectful than pooping on Freddie Mercury’s grave. But then again, LB fans have never been known for their great taste in music.

H. | 6/23/2009, 3:59 pm EST

And a few years ago all the negative people here bought Chocolate Starfish, and they all liked it…

Former Fan | 6/23/2009, 5:46 pm EST

This band was great before they appeared on MTVs spring break playing “Faith” and all the trendies jumped all over it. The success went right to Fred’s head and everything lyrically that came after was total crap. Every song was Fred just stringing together words that rhymed and yelling about stepping back and breaking shit. That’s why Wes left the band in the first place. Fred did not grow listening to any of the bands he mention in the article. When LB first arrived Fred said he was into skateboarding, tagging, and thrash bands like Suicidal Tendencies (he even stands like Mike Muir). I hope Fred was matured and is ready to pick up where $3 Bill left off…I’m curious to see what it will sound like

I like what I like!!!!!! | 6/23/2009, 9:33 pm EST

Listen to all you whiners crying about whether or not you like LB. First of all, Music is put out there for people to either like or if you don’t find another damn band and stop Bitchen!

For the record i liked the 90’s music. Do all of you have to like the same thing as me? No! Of course not. I happened to love the Rap/Rock sound. It has got a bit stale but it was great for the time. Rap was at it’s all time best in the 90’s. Anyway I can bet more than half of you couldn’t write a better song than Limp Bizkit. You want to talk about Corny!
Also the members besides Durst are great. First of all they have a DJ who was part of House of Pain and revolutionized the sound of a dj, He did it before LB with Pain on the Judgement night soundtrack. Then Otto and Rivers are so tight together for a sound. Wes forget it. He is one of the most Electrifying guitarists i have ever seen!!!
Remember! It is not how hard a song is written, It is how good it sounds. Peace out!

FUCK YOU HATERS | 6/24/2009, 3:44 am EST

here they are fred!!! The haters! FUCK the haters good on you for reuniting, come to new zealand limp bizkit!!! you wont be dissapointed. You guys rock, you always have and always will rock. Keep up the good work Limp Bizkit.

TheKurt | 6/24/2009, 5:02 am EST

Fred Durst called his music art like he understands what that is exactly..how ironic….it aint opera Fred and even some opera aint art either…you’re not writing Beethoven’s 9th for chrissakes…

asdf | 7/3/2009, 1:17 pm EST

i think wes borland is a great guitar player and if fred durst let him showcase his talents, LB would be a better band.

Dizzle | 7/4/2009, 1:00 pm EST

I give the guy plenty of respect i think they brought nu-metal to a new level surpassing RATM. and everyone who says fred is the worst vocalist ever id say hes more like 71 on the best metal vocalists of all time, Cory taylor = 86, jonathon davis = 13, mike shinoda = 72. get your facts straight b4 you talk shit. and you dont like the songs cuz you cant find a way to relate thats your problem go throw on some fuckin emo shit or death meatal (worst fuckin shit ever) and slit your wrists and cry yourself to sleep. people like these guys because they have decent beets, songs that you can jam to, and songs you can rock the fu

Dizzle | 7/4/2009, 1:04 pm EST

and songs that you can rock the fu

Open-minded | 7/6/2009, 5:08 pm EST

Limp Bizkit were not the best musicians in the world or anywhere close. But at one time they did make some music that I thought was good and I did relate to it. 3 dollar bill was a great album but I am willing to admit that the 2 albums that followed were just fun (Significant other and Chocolate Starfish). There wasnt much substance to them at all with the exception of a few songs. Results may vary had some substance but lacked the passion and it felt like they were trying to hard. Then that last thing, The Unquestionable truth, well that was garbage. It sounded way too much like RATM. That first album had so many other influences than the rest. It had funk, rap, heavy metal, grunge and the lyrics had substance. I think the biggest overall problem with them has been inconsistency. I, like many, I have always kept buying their music hoping to relate to it like I did the first album. I am always willing to give them a chance and if they tour I’ll be at a show. They put on an awesome show no matter what. I understand what he is trying to say in this interview. If you don’t then you just didnt listen or understand his music at any point.

keep it real | 7/7/2009, 6:38 pm EST

limp biskit was a kickass band!they jammed@Atlanta stadium with Metallica and Linkin park but even being the metallica fan, linkin park was the best of show.limp biskit is more than fred.he fucked up making the best song he ever made doing “all in the family”by Korn.he Disses korns lead singer and it is funny as hell!like a competition roast/rap/metal but fred burned him and all them korn fans didnt think it was funny.now they hate the whole band.what the fuck did Wes Borland do to be hated? keep it real limp,i’ll bring my hookers to your next jam!

YES! | 7/8/2009, 6:40 pm EST

“For years I looked into the crowd and saw a bunch of bullies and assholes who tortured me and ruined my life. They were using my music as fuel to torture other people, even dressing like me. The music was being misinterpreted and the irony effected me and we stepped away.”

So, Fred Durst realized that he looks like a total tool because people who used to beat the poor guy up dressed like him now?

I could have thought of a number of better reasons to walk away from such an amazing band…..Like he just realized the gravy train was about to derail an dyou can only ride the coat tails of a shitty trend for so long.

Good luck with your comeback album and tour Fred. Your amazingly talented. Not really.

Kris | 9/8/2009, 7:07 pm EST

limp bizkit fucking rule

kirko | 9/13/2009, 2:30 pm EST

cant wait for the new LB album, fuck the haters go listen to your emo shit, metal music these days is a bit boring bring back the nu-metal and have some fun again LBFL

too uncreative for pseudonym | 10/10/2009, 12:00 pm EST

Fred Durst: Limp Bizkit Was Used as “Fuel to Torture Other People” – finally something we can agree on, Fred… if you only hadn’t felt obliged to indirectly humiliating the poor Smiths in the process.

Birdman | 10/26/2009, 2:29 am EST

So Fred Durst’s a douche.

This is a revelation how?

And this is from someone who mostly enjoyed rap metal and who loves both genres.
