Courtney Love To Resurrect Hole For “Nobody’s Daughter”

6/17/09, 3:08 pm EST

After numerous delays and false starts to her solo album Nobody’s Daughter, Courtney Love will resurrect Hole and release the album under the band’s name, Love revealed to the NME during a recent studio visit. Love has recruited guitarist Micko Larkin to join the new Hole, and also said that former bassist Melissa auf der Maur will contribute background vocals at the least and possibly return as Hole’s bassist on a forthcoming tour.

In a video of the studio visit, with Love fittingly surrounded by doll parts, Love said that because the scope of Nobody’s Daughter had changed — it was originally conceived as an introspective “Blood on the Tracks,” but Love now likens it to the bombast of Davie Bowie’s Diamond Dogs — that the return of “Rock Courtney” meant the return of Hole. Nobody’s Daughter will still feature some of the tracks born during Love’s collaborations with both the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan and songwriter Linda Perry. The album is finally expected out in late 2009 or early 2010. While we’ve heard estimated release dates in the past, NME reports they’ve heard the entire album and will post a track-by-track of the disc tomorrow.

Were you expecting a Hole resurrection? Take a look at other long-shot reunions here.

As long as Melissa and Samantha are in, I’m down for a Hole rebirth.

earl | 6/17/2009, 3:33 pm EST

But will anyone care is the question?

jesus | 6/17/2009, 3:40 pm EST

this makes me giggle. this is gonna be bad!

Schultz | 6/17/2009, 3:55 pm EST

I agree with earl – I liken a rebirth of Hole to scraping shit off my shoe…

JJJ | 6/17/2009, 3:58 pm EST

It sounds like it will be great–not that anything Hole- or Courtney Love-related could ever be bad.

And.... | 6/17/2009, 4:00 pm EST

Nobody cares. At all.

M | 6/17/2009, 4:35 pm EST

Yay!

surforia | 6/17/2009, 4:35 pm EST

Hole’s rebirth? More like afterbirth.

Cynthia | 6/17/2009, 4:44 pm EST

Nobody cares. Nobody. NOBODY.

Kurt Cobain | 6/17/2009, 5:10 pm EST

Remember the time you murdered me?

brownsvillestation | 6/17/2009, 5:10 pm EST

what a bunch of blah lblahbalahaabalahahahah… ahaghalagagagagagg what the fuck is with you blahablahalahabnababna

wake up courtney…oh and thanks for the musical history lesson….

Obvious | 6/17/2009, 5:18 pm EST

I’m not interested in Courtney Love’s hole now or any other time.

Melissa Auf der Maur, I can get behind.

Edz | 6/17/2009, 5:39 pm EST

Hole without Melissa, Samatha and Eric = another C. Love solo flop.

Edz | 6/17/2009, 5:39 pm EST

Hole without Melissa, Samatha and Eric = another C. Love solo flop.

bloodzilla | 6/17/2009, 6:03 pm EST

i agree that hole needs eric and melissa, but i’d much rather see patty return than samantha.

Cj | 6/17/2009, 6:05 pm EST

Ummm…does this mean all Kurt’s money is gone?

Matt | 6/17/2009, 6:18 pm EST

But the demos of the album that are floating around on the web are amazing…I wish she’d stuck with the solo idea.

Catholic Boy | 6/17/2009, 6:56 pm EST

Is this the last of Kurt’s songs?

1994 Vintage | 6/17/2009, 8:17 pm EST

Throw ‘Live through this’ on and it still stands up well…. it depends if she can recapture any of that sound any more? If so im buying it. Needs a good listen first I think.

aerozeppelin | 6/17/2009, 9:05 pm EST

don’t hold your breath for anything to be released by Courtney Love or Hole.

me | 6/17/2009, 9:51 pm EST

Still un-convinced because without Eric, literally, NO SUCH THING AS HOLE -THE BAND- (in my eyes).

glamrocktiger | 6/17/2009, 10:56 pm EST

I’ll definitely check out the album when and if it actually emerges from the swamp of lawsuits, drug abuse and broken promises

The only thing more pathetic than Ms. Love is the people who devote their lives to hating her

raisedlefteyebrow | 6/17/2009, 11:19 pm EST

“The album is finally expected out in late 2009 or early 2010. While we’ve heard estimated release dates in the past, NME reports they’ve heard the entire album and will post a track-by-track of the disc tomorrow.”

WTF? A track-by-track for an album that might not even be released until next year? Seriously?

hanma | 6/18/2009, 12:02 am EST

Courtney love is a talentless cow.. all her decent shit has been written by either Billy Corgan or Kurt Cobain.. I wonder who she is going to rely on to write her music this time around.

ugh | 6/18/2009, 12:20 am EST

If Melissa’s there, I’m there

chds | 6/18/2009, 12:22 am EST

She might be bat-shit crazy, but she’s one of the last true rock stars…I’ll give it a listen.

why so shocked??? | 6/18/2009, 12:36 am EST

Unreleased does not mean unfinished. Melissa said her record was done like 2 or 3 years ago but the label situation wasn’t right, so she had to learn how to do the indie release thing, and I actually heard a track by track of an entire unreleased album, might of heard of it, Dark Night of the Soul?

Woo! | 6/18/2009, 1:13 am EST

Woo!

weegie | 6/18/2009, 2:38 am EST

She’s like that drunk fat girl who talks too loudly all through a live show.

imagoat | 6/18/2009, 2:39 am EST

why is it every article has loads of people trashing the person they just read about? if she’s not your thing then just don’t listen.

Tim | 6/18/2009, 2:56 am EST

All of Courtney`s cheerleaders who work for London`s NME are still trying to keep what little of her career there is left on life support. But at least Courtney`s few fans can enjoy all those 30 second sound bytes NME posts tomorrow. No record label wants to sign her,but slapping together a new hole with most of the original members missing is a new attempt to attract label interest.

buttercup | 6/18/2009, 6:03 am EST

Wow… a new Hole album? It’s hard to believe this is happening…

It’s not like Courtney Love owes anything at all to the world — she’s already put one masterpiece down on the table: “Live Through This”, so it’s not like she has anything else to prove — but still, I’m gald she’s goin’ for it again… I have a feeling the album is going to be good, judging from Hole’s output so far: “Live Through This” was perfect, and about three-fourths of “Celebrity Skin” was pretty great too… so there’s no reason why this album shouldn’t be good.

But, what sort of saddens me, is that she isn’t releasing the material as a solo project… after her first solo record, which was, well, a failure, it would have been nice to hear a good second solo record from her… I think she should’ve challenged herself to the task to redeem her bad karma, so to speak, but, I think what happened, is that she realised that her new songs have a ton of potential, and so she figured the songs deserve the best configuration possible, so she recruited Hole, which is the safest best, naturally.

Smart move, but still, I wonder what she could’ve done on her own.

Larry Flynt | 6/18/2009, 9:35 am EST

Remember that time Courtney got naked in The People vs. Larry Flynt? That was cool.

Pslightly Psycho | 6/18/2009, 10:19 am EST

Let’s face it: Hole is soooo ’90s. Is this a reunion anyone is reeeaaaally asking for?
I like them back then, but now their music just sounds from a distant past, when flannel and Doc Martens ruled. different climate today. This album will tank.

jimmy vulmer | 6/18/2009, 11:17 am EST

i don’t think it is ever gonna be released…..
maybe after she dies the record company will release it
too bad i’ve looked forward so much to this album

Black Hole | 6/18/2009, 11:21 am EST

Seriously Courtney, let go your dillusions of grandeur. Back in the day Hole was good, now, it remains to be seen.

Anonymous | 6/18/2009, 11:57 am EST

Hey a new Hole record! I guess she finally has enough Corgan/Perry songs to assemble an album. I hope it’s as strong as the album of songs Kurt Cobain wrote for her before he died and she started her new career as his money-grubbing junkie widow. Good luck Courtney! Maybe you could pretend to be friends with Dave Grohl next so he can write you some great songs to pass off as your own on the next record!

The reunion we’ve ALLLLLLLLL been waiting for! Oh wait, nobody cares.

wawijr | 6/18/2009, 12:07 pm EST

it’s not a bad album. it’s has a sevearl songs i like.
Letter to Good
Loser Dust
Dirty Girls
Never go hungry
As it is now, i don’t think it sounds like a Hole album. maybe adding some more hard loud rock songs will make more a Hole album. I do hope Eric and Melissa are involved in it.

courtney's hole | 6/18/2009, 12:19 pm EST

Courtney, you had your shot, and the first Hole album was good, but I grerw tired of you a long time ago. Take all the money you made auctioning Kurt’s stuff, retire, and go live in obscurity, please. Save yourself further embarassment

clover | 6/18/2009, 1:10 pm EST

Courtney love is brilliant. I think she is extremely underestimated. I have been a Hole fan since Pretty on the Inside and I cant WAIT for this album to drop. We want part 2 of Live Through This! I too hope for eric’s return! Melissa- welcome back! Sam?

Tom in Vegas | 6/18/2009, 1:16 pm EST

The boards on here really tickle me. A large group of people who for the most part, have no life, look for articles about bands/artists they dislike, and make negative comments about them. Get a life people! Try enjoying some music. I will not pass any judgement on this, or any, record until I have heard it. Hole made one of the best records of the 90’s, if she can do it again, great, if not, oh well.

Whole | 6/18/2009, 2:23 pm EST

Too bad the only good Hole was written by Kurt Cobain. She needs to let her hole alone.

taels.... | 6/18/2009, 2:32 pm EST

im so mother fucking happy i dot have a job right now but im gonna save my pennies to but it.
lmao…XD

Lauren | 6/18/2009, 2:55 pm EST

I care! Thanks.

Dave Grohl | 6/18/2009, 3:19 pm EST

Kurt must be rolling over in his grave

Post Grunge Era Hangover | 6/18/2009, 3:22 pm EST

This has the makings of being another “Chinese Democracy” – maybe we will all still be speculating on this 10 years from now!

grungeman | 6/18/2009, 4:14 pm EST

dont mind her singing but this 9min babble is giving me a fuckn headache!

bob o'booey | 6/18/2009, 5:03 pm EST

Won’t last long. nice try though.

Shadoobie Shattered Shattered | 6/18/2009, 6:57 pm EST

A different guitarist and probably a different bassist, but Hole is reuniting. LOL

curmudgeon | 6/18/2009, 7:47 pm EST

I just love the headline. “Courtney Love to resurrect Hole.” It would take a team of ob/gyn’s to resurrect that Hole, I’m afraid.

How about “Wang Chung to resurrect Wang?” or “Lance Bass to resurrect Lance?” or “Van Morrison to resurrect Brown Eye?” I got a million of ‘em.

Michael Schirmer | 6/18/2009, 8:06 pm EST

I love love love Courtney Love and Hole but it’s really sad how fucked up and incoherent she is. You can tell how intelligent she really is but she is all over the fucking place. It’s crazy. Totally sucks. I doubt that the new record will get released. If it does it will be way late in 2010. I’m sure of it. This record has taken almost 5 years just to get where it is today. Guns and Roses RUINED their career by pulling this shit.

fED | 6/18/2009, 9:01 pm EST

…yawn…

kill the industry | 6/18/2009, 10:05 pm EST

I bet she pulls a Van Halen and gets her daughter to play bass…..

Philbee | 6/18/2009, 11:45 pm EST

She is looking for a way to make some money as she has spent all of Kurt’s. Incredible. She is Nancy Spungen mixed with Yoko.

basser | 6/19/2009, 12:49 am EST

Great, first Green Day and how Hole on the road again. Booooring …..

DrZ | 6/19/2009, 1:31 am EST

Well put…70% Nancy…

Weary | 6/19/2009, 2:05 am EST

Such a shame she isn’t dead, whore.

Nutty the squirrel | 6/19/2009, 12:14 pm EST

Here’s where Courtney makes yet another major blunder comparing her first version of this new album to Blood on the Tracks and then compares the revised approach as being like Diamond Dogs.Only a fool would believe she can come close to matching the genius and skill those two records demonstrated. That whoever wrote this didn’t follow up with a question to her, like, uh Courtney what are you ON today? PCP, airplane glue or the next designer drug that induces delusions of grandeur? Courtney sure knows how to work the press.what other options for publicity does she have left? Pose nude? Done that. Arrest for being too loaded? Done that. Drug bust? Done that. Please Courtney…..retire

jimmy_vulmer | 6/20/2009, 5:40 am EST

WTF so what if she is comparing this album to the genious of diamond dogs…that only means that she was inspired by it and aspires to make something like that what’s wrong about that….
why don’t you just stop hating her and calling her talentless live thru this is one of the best rock albums of the 90-s ….so WTF man….
and if she was in it for the money the album would’ve been released 5 3 years ago….
and frankly i am glad she is revising nobody’s daughter cuz the only 2 songs i really liked of the demos floating around thew web….were samantha and loser dust…..the rest was either cheesy like letter to god ( god i hope she loses that song it wears thin after 1-st listening) or pure boring like nobody’s daughter or for once in your life…so its a good choice to remake it and come up with new songs….
seriously man that woman is very talented and intelligent one of the true rock stars of our time in the world cheap teen age rock bands…and probably the only true female rock star

Wind | 6/20/2009, 2:16 pm EST

Awesome news, can’t wait!!

Ghary Bowlin | 6/21/2009, 11:57 am EST

Has any Rock Star (and I mean that) ever been so hated? Why?
Courtney is accused of everything, and with good reason. Though to me her talent on record shines through. If everyone is so responsible for all the music, except her, than how did she come to record 3 or 4 GREAT albums of material. Who cares as long as Rock and Roll lives on.
Quit the personal attacks and just listen.

V. | 6/22/2009, 4:38 pm EST

It’s not like she’s your fucking mother or something, stop fucking pissin’ on her man. Just let it go.
Some people like her, some people don’t, life’s like that.
What – for fuck’s sake – do you think you’re acchieving by talking shit about her, don’t you have anything better to do? GOD.
Do you think you look cool by commenting on a newsflash on the internet, do you think people will remember you by it? She’s survived Hollywood, she’s out there, her ass is on the big screen and you’re sitting there behind your PC. I’m just saying.
Yes she’s not always been what she wanted to be and hasn’t always acted like she wanted to act and as if she knew what she was doing… but she’s still THERE. You try and survive all that shit, love to see you guys do it.

Btw I mean Courtney wants to do this, maybe, and y’know just respect people for what they want it’s not like everything YOU do is useful and smart and cool and I don’t know what… fuck.
Haven’t you ever done anything that wasn’t liked by every body.

I’m just sick of you pointless fucks. having to read shit like that from a million people … it’s so fucking useless.

What should she be like according to you – who haven’t really had any experience with anything she has been through, by the looks of your comments? What would you shape her like?

fuck.

I must sound like such an emo right now but I’m sure somebody shares my opinion.

I’m a fan of what she does, and at least I try to understand her and think of the shit she’s been through, she’s not perfect everybody knows that come on.

V. | 6/22/2009, 5:02 pm EST

She’s the one on stage.
And she still has fans, otherwise she couldn’t be doing this. So your opinion doesn’t really matter at all.

what am I doing and why am I doing it XD

courtney | 7/6/2009, 1:27 am EST

god im really excited! i’ve heard the demos and i love them! me and a friend are gonna try to see them on tour. i read a quote from eric saying the new hole album is gonna be harder rock than celeb skin..so if he’s saying this AFTER celebrity skin was released & Hole hasn’t made any new albums since Celeb Skin it makes me think he might be part of this album (YAY)

Jeff | 7/9/2009, 12:09 am EST

Listening to a rough cut of it right now. Brilliant, to say the least. As much as I cant stand it when artists take 5-6yrs to put out new music, this is worth the wait.

Saint Subversive | 7/14/2009, 12:15 pm EST

UPDATE: Courtney was blowing wind out of her painfully thin ass again. She never had the rights to use the name HOLE (and she knew it when she made the claims in this article), and now its official. Sorry dear, but the days of “whatever Courtney says goes” are long over. The guitarist for the band (who co-owns the rights to the HOLE trademark) justifiably put her in her place in a court of law, which seems to be the only place that her big mouth isnt allowed to run rampant. Now if she can survive to the next decade (which is about half a year away), itll be a minor miracle.

Nicole England | 7/20/2009, 9:55 am EST

yes, I am one of these mad bitches that tries to get any information about courtney love that i can…

i just love the fact that when I truely, truely believe the woman – after years of being quite pathetic to say the least, – could never shock me again… she announces that ‘hole’ is resurrected.

sorry courtney, but hole is not hole without eric. Never the less, her material isn’t bad. It’s not bad… but it’s not violet.

you have to be pretty committed to be a courtney fan… she’s hard work. but i’ll give her a chance.. another chance.. to blow me away again : ). (and thank god this album is finally under way, so that i can see her again!).

PrettyOnTheInside | 10/19/2009, 6:22 pm EST

Courtney did not kill Kurt, its Crap, peope just want to push an amazing musician like Courtney down for ridiculous reasons. I am sooo excited for this album to come out. Bands change people move on, I am sure Larkin will do a great job replacing Eric, although he will be missed greatly

appreciate the music, love the talent, leave the Bullsh*t out!
