“Weird Al” Yankovic Mocks Doors, Casual Encounters in “Craigslist”

6/16/09, 4:57 pm EST

“Weird Al” Yankovic is getting a hang of his whole viral video thing and called upon the power of the Doors to help him parody “Craigslist,” the online classified ad site that, according to Al, is a place you can trade a Camaro for an old wheelbarrow and a slightly used sombrero. As we learned yesterday, Craiglist is also a good place to search for fake Lil Waynes.

Using Strange Days‘ “When the Music’s Over,” Yankovic mocks Jim Morrison and the Doors, from his wig to the way he holds the mic to the psychedelic images spiraling around him to the footage of Native Americans that Morrison was so obsessed with. The video also throws in a girl dancing in front of Los Angeles (L.A. Woman, natch) Yankovic loses the plot a little bit when he pokes fun at Morrison’s mid-song poetry with a story about fighting with a barista, but quickly rebounds with what has to be the first verse in music history every dedicated to Styrofoam peanuts. You have to give Yankovic credit: 30 years into his career, “Weird Al” is still quintessentially himself.

“Dave Grohl of Nirvana said that the band felt they had “made it” after Yankovic recorded “Smells Like Nirvana”, a parody of the grunge band’s smash hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. On his Behind the Music special, Yankovic stated that when he called Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain to ask if he could parody the song, Cobain gave him permission, then paused and asked, “Um… it’s not gonna be about food, is it?”" – Wikipedia

I love it.

Craigslist may ultimately wind up being the worst creation of the internet age. “Hey, I have an idea! Let’s meet up face-to-face with unreputable, unaccountable, complete and total strangers and see if they sell me their stuff rather than raping/murdering me.” Fun stuff.

I understand that is a fan, but you can not be legendary .. because Jim Morrison is the only unique in the world .., dressing like Jim Morrison is ridiculous .. but is good that you’ve done something special .. but please no copy will end up ridiculous .. all my friends and I are fans of Jim Morrison, when we saw this video made us laugh as well .. it is ugly, no style .. and copied as a video too .., but please send it to home! Jim Morrison is the only one! or if one will think of cash as Jim Morrison then goes shit .. you do not want to see either web or live ..

I’m a Door’s fan, but the best thing that ever happened to the band was the death of Morrison. Did anyone really want to see a bloated, aging Morrison on a summer reunion tour with other 60’s era bands? (On second thought, I guess we were treated to the “bearded and bloated” version prior to death.) It was his death the times in which he lived that sustains the band’s legacy, not their music.

The Doors music as well as Morrison’s death help the remaining members sell records even today. To simply limit their popularity to his death is ridiculous. As for Weird Al’s song, he is not mocking Morrison, he is impersonating him, there is a difference. Manzerak plays on the track, he wouldn’t allow Morrison to be mocked. Funny song, and long live the Doors!!

for those offended by the Morrison homage, get over yourselves. Morrison didn’t take himself that seriously, why should you?

This is his best song yet. Not because it’s the funniest. but cuz he’s got the whole Doors thing nailed down (without making a makery of them)! PARTY HARD GARTH!

best way 2 keep ppl talking bout u is to do something bad or stupid or start a rumor that u r dead.
Like High school.. EVERYONE talks about someone bad.. the nice guys… who really remembers them.. its human nature.

Think about all the “Gucci Mane ” texts everyone is getting lately saying he was shot in Atlanta Georgia….

C’mon.. this insnt the days of East Coast rap vs West Coast Rap where Tupak and Biggie Smalls end up dead.

it MARIAH for gods sake.. she was be “has been” if not for this.

Eminem.. he is ALWAYS pulling publicity stunts.
