Aerosmith’s “Rocks” Joins “Toys in the Attic” on Summer Set List

In addition to announcing that guitarist Brad Whitford will rejoin Aerosmith on the road July 7th after he recuperates from a head injury, Joe Perry noted in a Reuters interview that the band will likely add their 1976 album Rocks to a summer set list that already includes the entire 1975 LP Toys in the Attic.

Perry said Aerosmith will likely swap out Toys for Rocks in approximately two weeks. “We do a lot of songs off the first four records anyway,” he told VH1 Classic Radio earlier this month when asked if the band would consider joining Mötley Crüe and other bands rocking full albums on tour. Aerosmith’s trek with ZZ Top kicked off on June 10th, and some fans began noticing that the band has skipped Toys‘ closing track “You See Me Crying.” Perry admits that the song is too difficult for Steven Tyler to sing now — he calls it “one of the toughest songs probably in our catalog” — but thinks Tyler might be able to tackle the song after limbering up his voice with a few more shows.

Rocks features tracks including “Back in the Saddle” and “Nobody’s Fault,” but Perry tells Reuters he’d actually like a break out a less popular album on tour: 1979’s Night in the Ruts — a record on which he didn’t even originally play on every cut. “I think there are probably two songs on there that we could play pretty much right off the bat,” he said. “The rest of them we’d have to sit down and really take them apart, relearn all the guitar parts. There are some rockin’ songs on there and it would be fun to play them live.”

I’m waiting for them to play “Nine Lives” in it’s entirety because I’m a sadist.

Not for $180 ticket.

Or you could buy a lawn ticket like myself for $30.No one is making you buy the expensive ticket.

Night in the Ruts, would be awesome! Great record so under rated!

The tickets are way too expensive, but this will be a show. Rocks is certainly their best.

I think they should play both “Toys” and “Rocks” in their entirety, you’d have 90% of the best songs they wrote in one set and that would be absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to see these guys at the Post Gazette Pavilion in June 24th, 8 days until the concert! It’s probably going to be one of the best metal shows I’ve seen yet!

“metal shows”

I’m sorry, what the hell are you talking about?

Seeing them tonight – kinda wish it was “Rocks” instead of “Toys” tonight.
first time seein ‘em – should be a blast.
although, I could really go for some “Draw the Line”

I’ve seen them everytime they come to NC for about the past 10 years. No matter what they play, it’s an awesome show. THEY ROCK!

I guess Steven can’t sing “Combination” anymore either – it’s his song as much as Joe’s, pretty much just hear him on the track, but not on tour. Best A-smith song, too. “Chiquita” would be killer. BUT… yes, WAY too expensive, like 75 bucks for nosebleed seats – Preposterous!

WILL AEROSMITH START PLAYING ROCKS FOR THE TWO FLORIDA SHOWS???? Now that Brad is back…have they been rehearsing it the last couple of days even with STEVEN’s Groin Injury? Does anybody know? ROCKS is great. They would still have to play SWEET EMOTION and Walk THis way from TOYS.,,,Joey Kramer is signing books in South FL July 12 the day before the concert…ROCKS OR TOYS???? Maybe Tampa will be the first concert with ROCKS!!!

It seems like this has evolved into a case of bait BAIT AND SWITCH. Not only did Aerosmith fail to switch over to playing ROCKS, they also quit playing TOYS!

What a STUPID move by the band: get the fans’ hopes up by giving them something they truly long for, spawn enthusiastic ticket sales, and then fail to deliver.
