  • Metallica will play a benefit concert for the Marin History Museum in September to raise money for a “Marin Rocks” exhibit that has been derailed by lack of funding, California’s Marin Independent Journal reports. “We want to keep the flame growing and flowing,” Hetfield said in a video screened at a fundraiser.

  • The Slits will release Trapped Animal, their first studio album in 25 years, on October 6th. The band’s lineup now includes original members Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt, plus Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook’s daughter Hollie, Anna Schulte and Adele Wilson.
  • New Orleans’ Voodoo Festival has booked its 2009 headliner: Widespread Panic. Billboard reports WP has a history of rocking Halloween concerts, and Voodoo will go down October 30th through November 1st.
  • New Kids on the Block are suing a competing group with the same name, TMZ reports. The recently reunited NKOTB filed federal papers claiming SM Productions tried to register the band’s name and Hangin’ Tough album art with the U.S. patent office.
