What started this whole thing was when he suddenly dropped the curtain and said some off-the-wall things that, to most fans, were shocking. We have never seen Trent talk about personal things like love. I’ve got to say that The Fragile was very good and the rest have been decent in their own way. (Not to mention the live shows).

As far as the Chris Cornell thing goes….I was a big Soundgarden fan (and still am), but the guy can’t belt it out like he used to (putting it mildly), and the solo/Audioslave stuff comes NOWHERE NEAR Soundgarden. So I think Trent has some validity there. (He just wants Chris to put out some better stuff, that’s all).

Anyway, it is MUSIC. Like it or not. It is your choice to make. That’s fine. I just ask that you don’t let all this ‘he said, she said’ to get in the way of that opinion. I mean come on, most rockstars/ musicians can be pricks at any given time.

Twitter is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of. That’s massive hyperbole, but I think it is almost entirely pointless. These “social networks” are leading us further away from real human moments and real human contact. It was John Stewart who recently did a bit on how CNN is jizzing all over Twitter – turning portions of their news into tracking what other people are twittering about on CNN. How is that news? How is that worth anyone’s time watching? This isn’t Gossip Girls. This is mature, serious news. While Twitter could be used responsibly and potentially positively, right now it is online high school cafeteria gossip.

I don’t really have anything to say about the drama, but would like to comment on the quality of Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor as an artist.

Nine Inch Nails is one of the most important bands of the last twenty-years. Reznor has made seven albums (eight if you count “Broken” EP) that range from hard-rock (With Teeth) to genre-defining classic (TDS) to conceptual high-art (The Fragile ) to straight-forward, almost garage rock (The Slip) to industrial (PHM) to neo-classical (Ghosts) to the socially conscious with hip-hop beats (YZ).

Every song on every release is intricate, well thought-out, multi-layered, complex and meticulously put together.

There have been few other artists (Bowie, the Beatles) that have been able to put out such an interesting and diverse body of work. As for the live show? There is nothing else like it.

Trent has the emotional stability of a thirteen year old girl on her period.

Antichrist Superstar is produced by him. and songs like Wish, March of the Pigs, Head Like a Hole and a lot of the early 90’s. all of this were more than relevant for all upcoming industrial metal bands. His also a soundtrack composer, that has worked with Oliver stone and David Lynch, to say a fell. He’s been pioneer in exploring the new ways of the music industry, and has succeded in making money with music in the new way, outside the majors. Perheaps he didnt help building the atomic bomb, but he is certanly a great artist.

If the reason Reznor is behaving this way is because he thinks he’s untouchable and his fans will always stand by him no matter what he does, he needs a reality check. Twitter, along with MySpace and Facebook aren’t all that bad. In fact, there’s some good in them. Look at the whole Iranian election controversy thing going on right now. The government is trying to silence the protesters in every way they can, including blocking access to all social networking and video sharing sites, but the Iranians are more technologically advanced then we give them credit for. These guys find a way to circumvent EVERYTHING! It’s amazing! Thanks to Twitter, they can still speak their voices and we, the world can hear them loud and clear. The problem though, is that up until that point, people used Twitter solely for mundane purposes. But that doesn’t mean that for that reason alone we should shut down all social networking sites because of the few a-holes that make it suck. You also have to think about the people that TRULY need it.

I used to like some of Reznor’s music too, but with the way he’s been acting since March, it’s hard for me to listen to any of his music because all I can think of is the kind of person that’s hiding behind the curtain (or in this case, computer). His latest Tweets are rather embarrassing. Seriously, what kind of “music professional” calls people “a pig and a prostitute?” Oh yeah, it’s only rock and roll, and he has immunity from the name calling. I’m not sure what he’s thinking. TR’s looking more and more like a bored and petulant decadent emperor of a miniature Rome in decline, dissipating his energies ferreting out petty conspiracies, dispatching henchmen to his crumbling borders and consorting with exotic concubines. If TR was a politician rather than a pop musician, we would have invaded a small island nation by now and busily set about enslaving the indigenous inhabitants. And if he was an executive of a corporation, we’d be witnessing a price-fixing scandal replete with seedy allegations of company funds funneled to prostitutes. It all stems from a heady brew of unresolved Mommy issues, male privilege, hierarchical social power, money, sex and the fear of death. He’s got personal and male socialization issues he’s never completely dealt with and is projecting them into this dinky, dumb*ss Twitter conflagration like it’s the f*cking Pacific theater. In reality, it’s just the same conflict within himself that he’s always fought on stage and in his addictions, and it appears that the wrong side is winning. If he didn’t want to deal with this psychodrama sh*t when he was younger, I don’t know what made him think it would get any easier when midlife arrived and it started to sink in however dimly that he’s gonna die some day, just like all the rest of us, a reality which no amount of money or fame or sex can stave off. It’s not enough that he’s had a twenty-year career, financial security and social acclaim – no, he’s gotta bully vulnerable young female abuse survivors so undervalued by their society that they have to turn compulsively to food for comfort in the absence of meaningful social connection or career support, and throw his own weight around like a rutting bull, defending his indefensible choice of a b*tchy bride and his barbed-wire guarded heart. It’s pathetic, it’s appalling and it’s infuriating, because it’s the same old song and dance to the devil’s pipes that men have been doing for millennia, finding it far easier to attack others even unto genocide and live with a self-destructive and suicidal depression than to just look in a f*cking mirror to figure out why they feel so bad and consequently need to force others to suffer as well. Then, all of her LA friends started tweeting about these random people. Maniqueen would take cell phone photos of people she didn’t know off the street, at airports, at NIN concerts then post the photos on the internet and write ugly things about them.
