Adam Lambert’s Rolling Stone Cover Shoot: The Photos

6/11/09, 4:56 pm EST

Photograph by Matthew Rolston

“I can’t even put into words what it feels like to be offered the cover,” Adam Lambert told us at his Rolling Stone photo shoot. When he saw his final cover for the first time — snake coiled around his leg and all — he reacted kind of like he predicted he would back at the Smashbox Studios session with Matthew Rolston: “I’ll just kind of sit and stare at it for a little while.” (Check out Lambert’s response for yourself in the video he recorded for us.)

Lambert held nothing back in Vanessa Grigoriadis’ cover story, opening up about the mind-expanding Burning Man trip that led him to Idol, his coming-out experience and his relationship with roomie Kris Allen. And he let loose for our cameras, too, letting Rolston shoot him applying his eye makeup, glammed out with a microphone, and unleashing his inner Wild Idol. Check out Lambert in his variety of poses — including exclusive shots you won’t find anywhere else — here:

tij | 6/11/2009, 5:24 pm EST

Rolling Stone made Adam do some out of this world poses for the photos. Such rebel pictures.

victoriaj | 6/11/2009, 5:27 pm EST

Ooo LA LA! Thanks for the photos. Please post more…..Love me some Adam. Can’t wait for the Idol Tour and his first CD. I’m only going to the Idol concert to see him. Too bad he will only sing five songs, but at least he gets five! GO ADAM. Sing us some MF “Baby Love” – we love MF and you in Atlanta!

pam | 6/11/2009, 5:31 pm EST

Adam is a very, very, sexy, sexy young man who has an amazing voice and talent. My mother is 80 and she is so intrigued by him, also. I a sending my husband out tomorrow to get us that RS magazine. I have not bought a RS magazine in 30 years. My mother is about to have a fit, she wants one so bad. Adam is so not vein about his talent or his looks (which he could be) and he seems so humble. Beautiful smile, gorgeous young man. My fire is burning!!!!! It has been out for 20 years. A new day is dawning and I can’t wait for his record!!!!

Breanna | 6/11/2009, 5:45 pm EST

Adam is so hot!!! I don’t care that he’s gay, I would still have his babies.

sonny | 6/11/2009, 5:47 pm EST

I am also a fan of Adam. I followed him throughout the Idol journey. However, I do not like the cover choice. I think his best feature is his eyes. A beautiful upclose shot with the tilt of his eyebrow would have made this fan happier.
Adam is very sexy regardless of his sexuality. He is very talented and we are all lucky to be able to enjoy this artist. Adam, stay true to you!! Cant wait to hear your album. Go with your heart. Most of us are supporting you with ours!

Mark | 6/11/2009, 5:47 pm EST

You guys have a billion more, come on now. Post them! lol

Adam Lambert Withdrawals | 6/11/2009, 5:48 pm EST

Ahhh! Adam Lambert! The most LOVELY shade of gay!! Coming from an old lady like me, in her 50’s, I’ve seen quite a lot of changes in society. I have family that are gay so I’ve seen many “incarnations” of their societies comfort levels. Adam is the newest generation to show that in this day and age, he CAN be secure in his identity and not worry so much as others have done about whether people will accept him or not. Like people of color (which I also am-filipino) or people of different religions or backgrounds, we all do the best we can do and learn to live the best lives we can. Make yourselves happy! Raise your children right, to be hard working, have good manners and be law-abiding but with a strong sense of self-worth! He is a wonderful entertainer and seems like a very good person. I can’t wait to see his progress in the entertainment industry. I hope he gets good management and advice…and keeps his head on straight! Thanks for covering him in your latest issue! I LOVE Rolling Stone Magazine and have been a reader since the 60’s! You all ROCK!!

layla | 6/11/2009, 5:51 pm EST

Adam Lambert is so gorgeous and an amazing performer/singer.

Amy | 6/11/2009, 6:03 pm EST

Thank you, thank you! Love all the pics from the cover shoot so far. And I’m SURE you’ll be posting more of them. *hint-hint*

Maddi | 6/11/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Adam is so fantatico in so many words u cant explain it!

Susie | 6/11/2009, 6:06 pm EST

I honestly can’t believe how beautiful he is. And incredibly talented to boot. Gracious, honest, he’s got it all.

Thanks for posting the rest of the pics.

You go, Adam!

chris | 6/11/2009, 6:07 pm EST

Adam, we support you all the way.. sky is the limit.

dlt | 6/11/2009, 6:12 pm EST

Just caught the latest photo of Lambert. He’s a mad cat-person. Does he own a gun?

Uranus | 6/11/2009, 6:14 pm EST

omg wow. The photoshoots are some of the best I have seen of Adam! Thank you Rolling Stone! I have been stalking this website for the past few days. Is there more? hehe.

RS where are you? | 6/11/2009, 6:29 pm EST

Is it just me or is there one person posting all of these flattering comments about this guy? I somehow doubt there are a thousand gay people posting non-stop about their love for some talentless public representative of the population

Jasmin | 6/11/2009, 6:31 pm EST

I love you Adam, just love you. You really changed my life!

Sarah | 6/11/2009, 6:34 pm EST

Adam’s got really beautiful teeth – thanks to his Mom who was a children’s dental hygienist :) .

Jessica | 6/11/2009, 6:41 pm EST

It is so nice to see a true IDOL on the cover of RS. Adam is so talented and I cannot wait to buy his album.

LF | 6/11/2009, 6:41 pm EST

Georgia | 6/11/2009, 6:51 pm EST

RS – I am not gay, I am a married 56 year old female, I know talent and others do as well. What does being gay having to do with being sexy, gorgeous and talented?

anney | 6/11/2009, 6:54 pm EST

adam you are my american idol you should won that show

Wow, love the facial expression. So hot! Can’t wait to see you in person.

Jane | 6/11/2009, 6:58 pm EST

Rolling Stone: could you please, please, please publish the photos of Adam in the white shirt with the black suspenders that we saw in the video? Those looked gorgeous.

MON | 6/11/2009, 6:59 pm EST

OMG!
I was just wondering when will we have the photos and they are up, I know there is more, keeping uploading,RS,especially the black suspenders ones.

Love you, Adam!

macon | 6/11/2009, 7:00 pm EST

I found out later in life my father was gay. He married a woman as folks did in the 50’s. He and my mother split up and he got custody of my brother and me. He was a wonderful person and raised two children by himself. I am proud of Adam for coming out. No one should hide who they are and not be happy. I wished I had known my dad my gay when he was alive. It is a shame he had to hide it. I would have told him I loved him no matter what!

dlt | 6/11/2009, 7:00 pm EST

Bowie, Bad Company, Queen, Kiss discovered on a show like AI? Don’t think so. The hosts of the music shows of yesterday were like Ghandi, not like Hitler, and they knew when to get out of the way.

Who’s “a pawn in their game”, Bob Dylan or Adam Lambert?

ugh | 6/11/2009, 7:03 pm EST

More endless hype for a game show contestant with no recordings or songwriting to his name
Rolling stone has reached a new low.
Give the guy a chance?
Maybe when he’s paid his dues and is deserving of the hype.
Canned, soulless karaoke and a telegenic appearance does not equal talent.

Michael | 6/11/2009, 7:05 pm EST

Adam will be a lasting superstar, because he is achieving success after working hard at his profession and growing as a man. He is a once-in-a-generation talent, and his candor in the interview shows him to be a really grounded person.

Adam is also bringing back some really hot style. For years every guy in rock has looked so dull, and along comes someone daring and able to carry off his look. Just watch – in six months every young guy in America will be in nail polish and guyliner. And that would be just fine.

Jane | 6/11/2009, 7:05 pm EST

adam is… there are no words! talented, sexy, interesting, beautiful. honestly, who is that good of a singer? his voice is a drug.

Yan | 6/11/2009, 7:09 pm EST

Thanks soooooo much for the photos and the video, Adam is super cute and super fierce!!! I really love the cover; it’s the best cover that I’ve ever seen! Gazillion thanks to the photographer for completely caputuring the charisma of Adam! Adam is truly inspiring, and he did not hold back on the interview, RS did a great job! When I got my copy of RS, it was a happy day! Adam, I love you as who you are!!! Can’t wait for Adam’s album!!!

em | 6/11/2009, 7:16 pm EST

Luck be a lady tonight, dang, Adam
you sure know how to rock the female mind woooeeee, such pleasures, can only be imagined.

Yan | 6/11/2009, 7:16 pm EST

Once again, I can’t thank Matthew Rolston enough! Thank you soooooooooooo much, Matthew! I’ve heard people complaining the snake and its position – aiming at… you know, but screw them! The snake really adds sexiness to the whole cover! Anyway, the whole cover is just on fire, blazing hot! For someone that rarely read magazines like me, now I remember one photographer – Matthew Rolston! Adam is sexy and hot already, but this cover totally brings the sexiness to another level! Sexy and artistic at the same time! Love the green snake and the butterfly, whoohoo, and Adam’s eyes and open lips are just way too hot!

OutlandoGirl | 6/11/2009, 7:30 pm EST

More, more, more please!

OutlandoGirl | 6/11/2009, 7:30 pm EST

More, more, more please!

Cindy | 6/11/2009, 7:32 pm EST

Gimme more Adam Lambert! :D

christine | 6/11/2009, 7:36 pm EST

OK, I admit it, I’m addicted to Adam. He could make a gazillion $ just by posing for pics, but, OMG, that voice! Thanks, Adam, for making me feel so good. You’re going to be right up there with Dylan – a musical genius!

More Snake | 6/11/2009, 7:42 pm EST

More snake – less Adam

Our New God | 6/11/2009, 7:43 pm EST

Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, David Bowie – move over! Adam has usurped you all without recording a single track. What talent, what charisma, what a sham!

LuvinAdamLambert | 6/11/2009, 7:52 pm EST

I loveeee this and I can’t wait to buy it. But the Magazine is NOT on sale yet. I went to Wal-mart, K-mart, Giant, Sheetz, and Turkey hill and i could not find it anywhere. It was really fustrating. But anyways I LOVE ADAM!

Shalimar | 6/11/2009, 7:52 pm EST

That’s not enough! Where’s the rest of them. MORE, dammit, more!!

Jazz | 6/11/2009, 7:54 pm EST

Adam, UR truly a hero, my friends and I can’t hardly wait for you in GM Place, Vancouver on July 8th American Idol concert tour. We love you as who you’re. We can’t hardly wait seeing you in flesh and can’t hardly wait for your debut Album. We’ll buy Rolling Stone magazine with you on the cover asap. MORE MORE MORE, MORE PHOTO’S PLEASE!!

Suzanne | 6/11/2009, 8:20 pm EST

My God but this shot is sexual! Best yet of Adam. I hope they make all the others by this photographer available to view online, and not just the 7 or 8 I have seen so far! Gotta say, I was a bit shocked at some of the content of the article, thinking maybe Adam should have kept SOME THINGS in his past to himself. There shouldn’t be anything else lurking as a threat to him now that this article is out. I bought 4 copies!!!!! Love that boy!

Jory | 6/11/2009, 8:26 pm EST

OHHH MY HEART ADAM STOP IT U R KILLING ME I AM SO ADDICTED ON U … ADAM IS SO HOOOOOOOOOOOOT AND PURE SEX .. I LOVE EVERY ENCH OF HIS AMAZING BODY .. OHH I AM MELTING :)

Following his amazing Rolling Stone Magazine cover, on newsstands everywhere now, Adam Lambert’s next must-see interview will be shown on ABC’s 20/20, this Friday, June 12th,at 10PM ET. Don’t miss it!

Sly | 6/11/2009, 8:34 pm EST

QUOTE: “I was a bit shocked at some of the content of the article, thinking maybe Adam should have kept SOME THINGS in his past to himself.”

I couldn’t agree more. I must be incorrect in thinking Rolling Stone WAS a Music Magazine. Silly me.

jennifer toronto | 6/11/2009, 8:57 pm EST

Hmmm i think adam looksOK in the rolling stone shoot would have been nice to see him sitting on a chair without makeup looking au natural.I have not yet read rolling stone yet with adam on the cover but i kind od think he should have kept things to himself.
What kind of career will he have after idol finishes touring? Broadway bound? maybe.I wish adam the best.

carrie | 6/11/2009, 9:00 pm EST

Those are wild pics to go with the wild idol cover. Thanks for posting. Do we get to see the rest? I bought 3 copies of the mag today. Love Adam.

Eileen | 6/11/2009, 9:04 pm EST

Just bought two copies at Border’s and got the last two. They were only there for a few moments, sales clerk said. It’s Adamania!!

He is so talented: the best singer in years, and he is so drop-dead gorgeous I can hardly stand it!!!! That cover photo is the sexiest: with his mouth open and eyes … would love to be that snake near that slight bulge in his pants. Oh my God I can’t wait for his CD and to see him in person at the AI concert: Like many others on here, I am old enough to be his mom!!!

marina | 6/11/2009, 9:16 pm EST

omg he is so gay.
but i absolutely lOve love LOVE him.
He has an amazing talent.

Barbara | 6/11/2009, 9:17 pm EST

To Matthew Rolston–The cover is an outrageous piece of art, and the black and whites are beautiful. You totally captured the essence of our wild idol Adam.

Mom in the Suburbs | 6/11/2009, 9:20 pm EST

Great article! Glad RS has the taste and foresight to showcase this artist. Iconic cover. I
Hate to sound demanding, but more photos from the shoot please. :-)

dlt | 6/11/2009, 9:25 pm EST

Rolling Stone magazine is Sixteen magazine, Tiger Beat. And some girls never grow up.

This corporate, “Sibling Society”–Robert Bly–of ours. Culture doesn’t pay

MsNewFreedom | 6/11/2009, 9:32 pm EST

I’ve just been to 4 stores in my SMALL town, and can’t find ANY Rolling Stone Magazines!!! I am going crazy here! Had been waiting for the release; and when I found out it was yesterday, I drove around in my PJ’S going into every store that was open.Talk about ADAM LOVE! I WILL find one tomorrow. You can bet on it!

MLP | 6/11/2009, 9:32 pm EST

It is so funny that those that have personal issues keep saying Adam does not have a talent. What pittiful people that have to resort to hide behind a post to throw garbage around!!

On another note, do anyone in Rolling Stones know or can find out if the songs POP GOES THE CAMERA and KISS AND TELL are really Adam’s songs?

They are in YOU TUBE as his.

dlt | 6/11/2009, 9:35 pm EST

Couplet By Adam Lambert

But Snake is not gay,
Snake won’t reciprocate

MsNewFreedom | 6/11/2009, 9:35 pm EST

gb | 6/11/2009, 9:52 pm EST

What a work of art. Adam, the photography, the idea for the photography. This should win some kind of award. Adam deserved what Rolling Stone came up with for him. I can’t wait to purchase his first album.

tracey | 6/11/2009, 9:54 pm EST

Adam Lambert has made this cover of Rolling Stone magazine the hottest ever, ever, ever ever! Unbelievable!!!!!

Puh-leeze! These American Idol twits are not worth the time and attention they receive.
Sure, they have talent, and I’m glad that a working kid gets a break.
But I don’t give a fuck about reading some talent show contestant’s life story.
Next!

Talia | 6/12/2009, 2:03 am EST

I would sell my soul to see more photos of this shoot released.

Especially more of him in the suspenders, because *drool.*

I want a poster of that, dear god.

Seriously. Would sell my soul. Yes.

samantha | 6/12/2009, 2:05 am EST

IT should be a crime been so hoT, you guys outdid yourselves. I called three different Barnes and Nobles, they don’t have it yet WTF I need my Adam fix

Weegie | 6/12/2009, 2:53 am EST

Er girls…………um….Adam er..uno…..doesn’t like the cooter, sorry to break the news.

Cazana | 6/12/2009, 3:35 am EST

Adam is gorgeous! Such a dynamic face and body. He is going to be so fun to watch. I can’t wait for his album in fall. Even if he just released one of his demos with his brother banging on a keyboard in the background it’d be a huge hit. The guy knows how to write a hook, sing it like no one else ever could, make us all dance and go wild, look f*cking gorgeous in the video and tear down the f*cking arenas in concert. Buy this RS issue. In 20 years your kids will think you’re cool for having it.

Deb | 6/12/2009, 3:40 am EST

I want to be on top!!!!!!!!

sherri j halpert | 6/12/2009, 3:45 am EST

Love this guy soooooooooooo much,RS can you release all the beautiful photos?

mikasho | 6/12/2009, 3:52 am EST

I have my RS magazine, loved, loved, loved the article, but a little disappointed there weren’t more photos of Adam from the shoot. Now, after seeing these, I feel satisfied… almost. =) Adam is gorgeous, can’t wait to see him in concert!!!

The End | 6/12/2009, 4:03 am EST

Indeed. Rolling Stone has become a farce of it’s original intents, beliefs and attitudes. When the magazine started in 1967, what was the initial strategy? Create a new society that shied away from all the mainstream spoon fed bullshit that corroded the mind? I think that was it, wasn’t it? So low you have sunk. I have seen it time and time again. It’s become pathetic. Who the hell is that kid on the cover? Why are you catering to 14 year old kids? Are you any more relevant now than People magazine? Did this kid even win such brainless contest? Has he had a major impact on the Billboard 200 or charts abroad? Does he even have a record or album out? Are you putting him on just to sell magazines? What happened to your ideals? When you see your old sell out self, do you see it as what you wanted to be when you were younger? It’s so sad, really is. Change the name of the magazine, please. Call it Rolling Gossip or something catchy that grabs the attention of people at the supermarket check out line. Start issue 1 with news about who’s dating Hannah Montana.

vegaslady94 | 6/12/2009, 4:36 am EST

When all is said and done, I would love to know how this issue sold as compared to other RS issues. I am thinking this one will be quite phenomenal. Adam is truly awesome.

Delilah | 6/12/2009, 5:48 am EST

Without a doubt…best cover you have ever done. Captures his essence to perfection, thank you!!!

thespindleshay | 6/12/2009, 6:10 am EST

i want to marry these photos. more please!
to the folks protesting, adam does write music, he’s recorded original music, his fans have found almost everything he’s ever recorded – and we’re waiting with bated breath to hear more!

“………….O M F G…………”

saphira | 6/12/2009, 6:39 am EST

These pictures are insane. He is so beautiful and the photographer rocks.
But I want to see that picture of his face with the snake around his neck that is shown in the video from RS. THAT is amazing. Thanx RS for the article and the photos and everything you have on Adam. He is a superstar already.

Ruby Tuesday | 6/12/2009, 7:14 am EST

Why RS, why???
This is not rock n roll. It is a very clever idea to sell more issues though…..

Joanne | 6/12/2009, 7:29 am EST

Can’t wait for the RS mag of Adam I can’t get enough, Australia loves you please tour here

dlt | 6/12/2009, 8:00 am EST

Adam’s playing the spoons in a new instrumental band (no vocals of course). Will Bo Diddley, the original Hank Williams, the Beatles, Charlie Parker, Mozart ever be better than him?

For all of you w/ hair problems, too little and/or too much, there’s a new product. I forget the name. Only three trillion dollars a pop

Yadayadayada | 6/12/2009, 8:32 am EST

To the people complaining that he hasn’t done anything yet: Alot of Adam’s buzz came from his pre-idol stuff. As soon as he showed up on AI people googled him and found out the guy can sing anything from showtunes ( Brigadoon) to cabaret, AC, and glam rock ( Crawl Thru Fire- an original tune). He also flirted with an alt band called Citizen Vein- all this stuff is on youtube and has millions of hits. RS recognizes up and coming talent when they see it. With the right people behind him, this guy is going to go through the roof.

Yong Yee | 6/12/2009, 8:37 am EST

I’m truly glad that he talked right here for RS. As his fan, I’m thrilled about how open he is, but this is just him. As he said, he wants to control what he can do. Do good music for us, Adam. That’s what we are looking forward now! Take care and wish you a great career ahead.

Adam Fanatic | 6/12/2009, 9:04 am EST

WOW! That cover is soo HOTTT!!! Absolutely STUNNING!!! Can PEOPLE Magazine come out with THE SEXIEST GAY ALIVE!!! You’re Whole Lotta PERFECT, ADAM!!!
I love you. I’m a fan for life.

T | 6/12/2009, 9:07 am EST

Matthew, are you trying to give us girls a heart attack? Adam looked soooo sexy 70’s rock!

Ann | 6/12/2009, 9:10 am EST

Adam is a beautiful man…

music lover | 6/12/2009, 10:01 am EST

Maradona is an old fashion music . we need the original and new music.
Go Adam

reality | 6/12/2009, 10:02 am EST

Enough already with this guy. Let’s wait and see what he delivers on record before we start claiming he’s a rock god. His act has been done before by far greater people. Personally, I find his voice irritating despite his range and power. Way too theatrical for me. If you want Broadway, go to Broadway otherwise you’re just going to get Bat Out of Hell IV.

dlt | 6/12/2009, 10:29 am EST

The best actors are mythical, unlike the caricatures of prime time.

Woulda been nice if Bowie’s mime coach Linsay Kemp had received praise like this, though praise like this has helped ruin many. Both Kemp–who’s he, she?–and Bowie–who’s he, she?–paved the way for, in this case, nothingness.

123adam | 6/12/2009, 10:37 am EST

Rolling Stone,
Thank you for giving us MORE ADAM. We can not get enough of him. He is so brave in his honesty. I am a 40yr old mom, and I LOVE MY ADAM.

Smitten | 6/12/2009, 11:11 am EST

I’m so excited. Thanks for these pictures!! I was at Target when it opened this morning and got my copy of Rolling Stone. They only had 3 out and I wanted to get them all, but I resisted so that other Adam fans had a chance to buy them as well. Hopefully, they’ve got more in the back.

Anonymous | 6/12/2009, 11:26 am EST

First, Lady Gaga and now Adam Lambert? Rolling Stone should not be endorsing these posers. Let’s put real artists on the cover instead of these idiots.

Lola | 6/12/2009, 12:15 pm EST

thanks for putting these pictures up!! any of the ones with suspenders..? :D

Weegie | 6/12/2009, 12:45 pm EST

Freud would have a field day trying to figure out why young girls are attracted to sexually harmless males…guess because it’s safe, they can idolize and fantasize without having a pesky scary penis to think about. Seems to be alot of 40 something female virgins out there too who dig an androgynous man. Look up – Aiken, Clay.

Weegie | 6/12/2009, 12:49 pm EST

And hey rubes…..the first 3 or 4 weeks of Idol are hilarious, train wrecks, the mentally ill, career losers. But eh, once they get down to the final 2 or 3 contestants they’re just priming you to go out and by another dreadful album by the “winner”. You’re being lemmings lead by your nose rings, wake up.

Carnal | 6/12/2009, 1:24 pm EST

all the people here putting adam down are hilarious. adam is already a star.

Ziggy Starbust | 6/12/2009, 1:46 pm EST

You want to be Bowie so bad..it’s just pathetic

MON | 6/12/2009, 2:15 pm EST

I feel so lucky right now.

The RS arrived in Hong Kong afternoon today and within few hours,
they are all sold out in HMV and PageOne chains.

So Glad that I have ask them to hold one for me early this week.

A lot of Adam fans cannot find a copy now because they did not expect Adam is so popular here.

Jesus, just a few hours!

And the China Adam fans are desperate, too coz the predict date of release would be next week here but it actually came out today. So, their plan of visiting Hong Kong next week to buy RS copies are now messed up…

Peggy | 6/12/2009, 2:34 pm EST

Great story, wonderful photos! Adam’s appeal transcends all age levels, genders and degrees of sexual experience. The greatness of his singing is not just in his technical expertise but in his ability to absolutely sell every the lyrics. He makes songs meaningful like no one else I have ever heard. The RS cover is gorgeous – sexy and playful! Adam is a beautiful spirit who deserves every accolade he receives.

Ken B | 6/12/2009, 2:35 pm EST

I must not be in the Rolling Stone demographic anymore.
About Adam? Don’t know. Don’t care.

Joy Division | 6/12/2009, 3:05 pm EST

Rest in Peace Rolling Stone.

Poor Lester Bangs keeps rolling over in his grave…welcome to the Rolling Stone hype machine

chris | 6/12/2009, 3:35 pm EST

Okay so he’s a gay guy that wears makeup and goofy outfits…..What makes him so “wild”? Does he snort coke off Paris Hilton’s ass on the weekend or something? I don’t get it.

Weenie0519 | 6/12/2009, 3:52 pm EST

It’ funny the guys do not like Adam, Mostly because he is gay. They bad mouth gays but 99 percent have no problem seeing women together. Adam is the greatest thing in years and is way on his way.

Holly | 6/12/2009, 3:58 pm EST

I find it amusing that most of the negative comments here call Adam a ‘poser’ just for being on American Idol but have never even watched him perform. He’s mind-blowing.
Potential legends come from all kinds of venues, people. Open up your mind a bit.

basser | 6/12/2009, 4:21 pm EST

I don’t think Adam is a poser. I think he does have talent, but good grief, people, you and Rolling Stone are acting like he invented the electric guitar, invented rock music, invented the Internet and saved 105 children from a burnng building. Let’s face it, Rolling Stone, with its odd fascination with all things Lambert, not to mention Jonas Brothers on a recent cover (is Miley Cyrus next? Don’t count her out, now), Rolling Stone isn’t so underground anymore. It’s become Tiger Beat …

IAM | 6/12/2009, 4:30 pm EST

rolling stone died years ago; maybe decades ago. they’ve been only putting gross pop stuff on the cover for a very long time. adam lambert, however, is one of the most talented vocalists i have ever heard. it’s unfortunate that his presence on american idol will make true musicians/fans skeptical of him. i really hope that he goes far.

dlt | 6/12/2009, 4:54 pm EST

Many, if not most, females like males they can relate to, perhaps even dominate. They want males who don’t want to rape them, who respect them. (Any self-respecting human being doesn’t wanna be abused, period.)

Homosexual males are raised by strong (and perhaps neurotic or psychotic) mothers, weak or abscent fathers/older males. Freudian art critic/professor Camille Paglia has written penetrating (uh-oh), stuff on this subject (lesbianism too).

I guess Lou Ferigno is too old, sagging. Adam Lambert is the Incredible Hulk.

Carol | 6/12/2009, 4:54 pm EST

I never would have imagined that i would be driving all over the place looking for a Rolling Stone magazine. Today i found 2 copies and i will probably buy a few more. Thank you rolling stone for a great article on Adam and the amazing pictures.

Lexie | 6/12/2009, 7:17 pm EST

Thank you Rolling Stone! Amazing cover! I don’t usually buy Rolling Stone, but had to have this one with Adam. Please, Please, Please show us the rest of the Adam pictures!!!

LUVSADAM | 6/12/2009, 8:01 pm EST

I saw Adam when he was in the top 36 on AI.I thought he was amazing then. If any of you look back at his interviews you will see how down to earth he is. He did not go into the competition thinking how great he is He is very humble and what you see on stage is not what he is in real life. He is a man with more talent than anyone on Idol for years.

Clay Aiken | 6/12/2009, 9:09 pm EST

What has this guy done to land him on the front of RS? Great he did American Idol. Those clowns either record the same Bubblegum bullshit or tank. Lets see what he is made of before we put him on the front of anything.

Jonathan | 6/12/2009, 9:24 pm EST

This guy’s a rare talent. He blew the roof off of Idol this year. Can’t wait to see what he does when he’s not being limited to what can be done on a “family” show.

jays5672 | 6/12/2009, 9:53 pm EST

Big fucking deal!!!!!!!! The guy’s gay. I could have told anyone that from day one and now that it’s out it’s like “Oh let’s just make him into the biggest thing since freaking Elvis Presley.” Why does being a man and loving other men have to be something that’s so amazingly great these days?

ken vail jr | 6/12/2009, 9:57 pm EST

any of you knew the history of rolling stone, they’ve on occasion put teen idols on the covers…i recall one donny osmond and david cassidy getting a cover in the 70’s…it’s a way to sell magazines. they’ll sell more than if they put captain beefheart or some obscure musician on the cover, that’s just the way it is.

Jessica | 6/12/2009, 10:54 pm EST

Rolling Stone Magazines… did you print enough copies of your latest mag with feautre cover is Adam Lambert? I’ve been everywhere and still showing the pics of Lady Gaga…Where is the latest one with Adam Lambert? Hello… crap I can’t find it everywhere so far.

HAVE2PEE | 6/13/2009, 12:02 am EST

MY NAME~WELL AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS, I PUT WHAT CAME TO MY MIND FIRST AND THAT WAS~ I HAVE TO PEE~GOT RID OF THE I
NOW THEN THE REAL REASON I WRITE IS THIS:
ADAM LAMBERT, HAD HE SIMPLY SAID HE WAS BISEXUAL INSTEAD OF GAY,WOULD OF HELPED HIS CAREER TENFOLD.
ELVIS WAS BISEXUAL~KING OF R&R
HAD HE SAID HE WAS GAY~HIS CAREER WOULD OF BEEN OVER.
SAD FACT, BUT TRUE
NOW THAT ADAM HAS ANNOUNCED HIS PREFERENCE SEXUALLY I THINK IT WILL HURT HIM MORE THAN HELP.
IN TODAY’S SOCIETY, THE AVERAGE PERSON TAKES IT SERIOUSLY.
AS FAR AS THE ARTZY,CRAZIES IN THE WORLD WE LOVE THIS STUFF !
ROLLING STONE TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO CAPITALIZE ON LAMBERTS’ WELL KNOWN SECRET, AND I BET IF YOU WERE TO TAKE A POLL OF THE PEOPLE WHO PURCHASE THIS ISSUE YOU WILL FIND GIRLS AGE 15-60. THE YOUNGER LADIES ARE ALL ABOUT HIS LOOKS, THE MID AGE ARE ABOUT HIS TALENT AND THE LATTER AGERS ARE BECAUSE THEY REMINISCE ABOUT ELVIS.
ADAM IS COY,PROVOCATIVE,LOUD(NOT HIS VOICE),CUTE,SEXY,AN INDIVIDUAL,WHO IS LOOKING FOR LOVE, HAS STRUGGLED WITH IT, AND I BELIEVE WILL NEVER FIND IT. I SAY THIS ONLY BECAUSE HIS WORLD NOW WILL BE MOVING TOO FAST TO PROVIDE WHAT HE TRULY NEEDS AND THAT’S STABILITY. HIS NEXT DECADE WILL BE ONE THAT’S TOPSY TURNSY. IT WILL BE ALL TO SURREAL AND FAST PACED. ADAM HAS LIVED CRAZY, BUT HE HASN’T LIVED INSANE YET. HE TENDS TO GET DEPRESSED EASILY, FOR HE IS HARD ON HIMSELF. HE LOOKS TO OTHERS FOR STRENGTH, WHEN HE MUST REALIZE THE STRENGTH IS FROM WITHIN.
RIGHT NOW ADAM NEEDS SOMEONE TO BE HIS SHIELD AND ARMOR, HE NEEDS HIS MOTHER MORE THAN EVER.
MY BEST GOES OUT TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY. IF HE PLAYS HIS CARDS RIGHT THEN ADAM WILL SHARE THE FAME OF 3 GREAT LEGENDS THAT I KNOW…..
ELVIS
MICHAEL JACKSON
DAVID BOWIE
I WISH HIM THE BEST~;)

Janet | 6/13/2009, 12:26 am EST

It’s selling out everywhere!

AdamGlamGirl7 | 6/13/2009, 1:45 am EST

I’ll tell you one thing, this is the HOTTEST cover EVER! I sooo wish I was that snake. HeeHee.

Millambert | 6/13/2009, 3:03 am EST

I’m not fan of any band or artists, yes I like 1 or 2 songs of Queen, 1 song of Michael Jackson, and the same things with other bands… I’m a fan??? That’s is for fool people… But now… all this change, and here I am, searching Adam Lambert’s videos, Adam Lambert’s photos, Adam Lambert’s news… all things, any thing about Adam… Now I’m searching the songs from Johnny Cash or Smokey Robinson.. ??? In Latin America nobody nows Cash, maybe for the film but his songs… Smokey who???… forget bands like Kiss or Aerosmisth… All change because Adam Lambert… he bring to fresh air to the music… The Rolling Stone interview is amazing and Adam is so honest, modest, open mind, sincere, so down in earth and funny too! Almost cry with his feeling in his childhood and I laugh with his thoughs about Kris and the all psychodelic experience!! But I’m was sad too for the paparazzi issues and I’m feel frustrated too for his experiences with the all media presion about his sexuality! US, please care Adam! He is really an amazing artist and is so sad to watch how half US fight and discredit Adam… Well, if you don’t care Adam: in Latin America, Australia, Asia or Europe he are waiting for him!! Adam please come with us!!! We love you, we will support your career, your personal business always will be your pesonal business!! We respect you! We will buy your albums!! Please! In US the people is so unfair with you! Please came here with us! We will receive you with open arms!!!

Lulu | 6/13/2009, 3:16 am EST

Adam is a treasure.

The new face of Rock!! | 6/13/2009, 3:41 am EST

I have read some of the comments, and still find myself only focusing on the talent of this superstar!! Everytime I watched and heard him I got GooseBumps!! At one time in my life Whitney Houston did the same for me!! Adam, please make the right choices in your life. You have a voice and talent far greater than Elton or Goerge Michaels, but only a very stable man can make it in todays quickly changing music industry. You have a devoted following you have incredible talent! Do you have the people behind you to make you a star? Do you want to be a star? (with all the sacrifices that it entails?

JRW | 6/13/2009, 8:25 am EST

Guys don’t dislike Adam because he’s gay, as someone mentiond. If guys dislike him at all, it’s because of all the special attention he’s getting for being gay. It shouldn’t matter. It’s a non issue, or should be. And it’s not as if everyone who watched American Idol didn’t know it all along. I mean, Hello! (One of the best moments of the show this year was watching Randy Travis’ facial expression when Adam walked into the room with his black nail polish, eyeliner and all that makeup. And then to listen to how he planned to sing “Ring of Fire. Priceless.) God, it must have been hard for Adam (no pun intended) to be roomed with that cute Chris guy. I mean, I’m a guy and not gay, and I know Chris is cute. He was just the cute guy, as in…”what did the cute guy sing this week?” Adam probably thought it was some conspiracy; I mean how could he concentrate on his material and decide what he was going to sing each week when Chris is in the same room all the time wearing or not wearing whatever. Sorry, got off point. Does Adam belong on the cover of RS? Probably not, at least not yet. Let him make a great record and THEN give him publicity. Will RS be having Chris on the cover next to get HIS take on Adam and how he felt being in the same room; and did he know Adam had the hots for him and was he tempted to let Adam, uh, do him just to relieve the tension? I mean readers are dying to know.

dlt | 6/13/2009, 9:15 am EST

Just purchased “Glambooh, the new shampoo! Only t(h)ree trillion dollars a pop. Dat’s right. Only three trillion dollars a pop. So rob your mom & dad & buy now…” I’m sure you’ve seen the commercial.

Bisexual; which Elvis are you talking about? I’ll bet you got your info while waiting in line at the food store.

Bowie’s trailblazing, bisexual space creature Ziggy Stardust was a reaction to the largely heterosexual (and earthy) Woodstock megalopolis. Bowie had also been hanging out w/ the Warhol crowd, Lou Reed

Reno 911 | 6/13/2009, 10:06 am EST

Adam should have a great career…on Broadway playing the edgy rock star or tortured artist.

Sarah | 6/13/2009, 10:33 am EST

I am buying TWO issues – One to frame, the other to just drool over.

Sarah | 6/13/2009, 10:40 am EST

I looooove that pic!! so fierce!! *melting and drooling*

Bruce Kingsley | 6/13/2009, 12:53 pm EST

The guy is an amazing talent. He used American Idol as a platform to get noticed. He was a small fish in a big pond and as he said there is no such thing as being discovered anymore. People are interested in him for many reasons. First and foremost his talent. If this guy wasn’t nearly as talented as he is no one would be talking. But along comes this guy with an amazing vocal range and performance skills. Unless you have watched all his performance than you have no room to critique him at all. In other words shut up. I think a second thing that is drawing people to him is his total lack of inhibition on the stage. He throws himself behind every performance. A third factor is his confidence in who he is. He knows who he is and you don’t like well, guess what? That’s your problem now isn’t it?

YENYEN | 6/13/2009, 12:58 pm EST

OM*G!! ADAM, SNAKE TOLD YOU TO ATE THE FORBIDDEN APPLE? GOD SAID UNTO TO LEAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL EDEN, MULTIPLY AND HAVE CHILDREN. (GENESIS 1:1-2:7) YOU’RE A “ROCK” GOD!!!GLAMBERTS ARE COMING!!

Lulu | 6/13/2009, 4:31 pm EST

Noticed a reference to Elvis and bisexual here. Couldn’t resist commenting. Elvis was (way) before my time, but I discovered him a couple of years ago and his music is great fun! I saw a couple of his movies too. I did a little research, and, let me tell you, if there is such a thing as reincarnation, Adam is Elvis. Elvis was, under Jewish law, Jewish, because his mother’s mother was Jewish. Elvis could have been in the closet or bisexual; certainly his sex appeal and the ultra-sexuality he manifested, the moves, the facial expression, etc., were hardly mainstream macho. He liked little girls, maybe as way of dealing with other repressed sexual leanings. Who knows? Certainly in the 50’s and the 60’s, you didn’t have a career in most professions is you were out of the closet. And certainly not as a teen idol pop rock singer from the South. Adam’s looks and expressions, his background, his coloring his hair black like Elvis are eerie coincidences anyway. Adam’s voice has way more range than Elvis’, but Adam could sing in the baritone range if he wanted to. I’ve heard it do it at times on y***t****.

ivy | 6/13/2009, 6:34 pm EST

After going to 2 cvs (still Lady ga ga), 2 b&n (still lady ga ga), ran into a Borders in Atlanta
They had just put them on the shelf 20 minutes before and sold through half of the stack. Wow! Timing is everything!

I was so excited, I drove to a shopping center parking lot, around the back where there was a shade tree, turned my ipod on with Adam’s music and read from first word to last……with pure delight!!
He is exciting, sexy, magical, captivating, humble, real, sensual, shocking, sleazy, raw, intense and oh yeah, I love his singing
Thanks Adam.

Thanks Rolling Stone.

Unfortunately more Glamboohs/weeds are coming, but they’ll be forgotten/plucked. There was tinsel/shit in Mozart’s time, Charlie’s Parker’s time, Little Richard’s time but they’re not in the history books

Lovin it all | 6/13/2009, 9:20 pm EST

FYI… AR…he is the runner-up, not the loser. You AR are the LOSER because your bigotry prevents you from receiving the awesomeness of what is Adam. “WE” the “ENLIGHTENED” are the fortunate, that have been able to appreciate this magnificient creature and his talent, and are the true winners. We know how the “voting” goes. AI producers were greedy and wanted to grab it all. They knew Adam had worldwide appeal and was going to shoot to stardom without the title, so they aligned the next hottest person with Adam for the win.

Alx | 6/13/2009, 9:45 pm EST

Amazing photo shoot, Adam knows how to enchant the camera, and you guys, are genius at making magic happen with the lens.

yummy, yummy, glamorize me!! Ravage me, take your time, swallow me, glamorize. Thanks for the pics. Love Adam!! I think he is so much more than the Rolling Stone Mag realizes…Glamorize, Crawl thru Fire, A Change is Gonna Come (original version, not his AI version), Citizen Cane. I wonder if the Rolling Stone Mag knows just what they had there and knew all the songs he did. Did they know just how genius this kid was? If they did they would be saying “Ravage me, glamorzie, glamorize, rise, rise, rise.

weegie | 6/13/2009, 10:26 pm EST

We’re just too dumb to be believed anymore….the whole Idol dynasty is designed to line the pockets of it’s “judges”. It’s not a contest the last few weeks of the show, it’s a lavish promo for the top 3 “artists” to sell Dreadful albums and music to brain dead citizens of Amorica. “The TV told me to go buy a CD by this guy, I ain’t got enough motivation and brains to find music on my own”
Rubes !

Adam is so talented and gracious. I am so glad that RS gave Adam the space to answer all of the nasty media focus on his sexuality. This is about music, people! He seems relieved to put it to rest and to address the issue. As he has said all along, he is an honest guy. I love seeing him with his mom. Clearly, they have a close relationship. I hope everyone gives him a break now and focuses on his music. He will be a worldwide sensation.

AdamGlam4Ever | 6/14/2009, 2:39 pm EST

OK, RS, I went out and bought 5 copies (3 for friends, 2 for me). I opened it up hoping to see some of the awesome pix we could of see on the computer screen within the photoshoot video, but except for the cover and that one full page pouty gorgeous shot, the rest were pix you snagged off the web which we’ve all seen before…the most outrageous out there, which I imagine was purely for shock value. I am sad that we can’t see more of what was taken at Smashbox. Could you at least put them up on your webpage????

He’s a phenomenal talent, that should have won the competition. Being gay probably hurt him. Rolling Stone cover? Being gay probaby helped him with that. As far as the whole bi-sexual thing…I’m not buying it. If half your house is on fire, YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE! Unless your a hot chick, then its kinda hott.

Adam Lambert Blows

suzy-Q | 6/14/2009, 5:56 pm EST

We have a superb singer (much better than many, many rock stars) who has worked his ass off the last 8 years, can sing ANY genre of music, and was smart enough to use American Idol as a stepping stone to get world wide exposure. He has done ALOT more than tons of mega superstars in the rock and pop world and still people want to peg him as a poser and not justified to be on RS – are you kidding me??

Lee | 6/14/2009, 6:22 pm EST

All those complaining about Lambert’s being on the cover and “not paying his dues” are simply clueless. He’s spent ten years working to get this far. The training he’s put into his voice is obvious to anyone with ears. And his talent and charisma are light years beyond most of the mediocrities on RS’s covers. Love to know how many issues are sold with Lambert on the cover.

brittany | 6/14/2009, 7:24 pm EST

Thank you for the Adam Lambert cover. He is the most amazing talent and

Sexuality is a hair color, if you’re a cartoon.

Some people think talent and popularity are the same thing. Sometimes they’re right.

insufferable_know_it_all | 6/14/2009, 9:23 pm EST

Weegie and DLT,

DLT–Are you sure your name isn’t the BLT because your brain sure is vegetated like a BLT sandwich.

Weegie–We know Adam’s likes and dislikes.

For the both of you questioning why RS would but the 2nd place on the cover is obvious. He’s better. Go to you tube and look up Adam Lambert and Kris Allen National Anthem note for note. See who really sings the best. Adam was robbed of his win on AI because of the Christian Coalition and all it’s evil but you know what? Adam and Kris are out in the real world now. It’s not a popularity contest against perceived good and evil anymore. Adam has already won an award–the Young Hollywood Artist of the Year award. The higher ups in the music industry–not lame stupid ass brains like you who–but people who KNOW what true talent is is going to reward whoever has the most talent accordingly, and that would be Adam. So deal with it, you Danny Gokey, Christian Coalition Bigots.

And about the cooter thing–I have had a pretty gay blond man before. So the mission is not impossible.

NurseTracy | 6/14/2009, 9:27 pm EST

Amazing cover. Just when we thought we had seen the hottest pics of Adam-Rolling Stones comes out with this. Absolutely stunning-that is all I can say.

Suze | 6/14/2009, 10:13 pm EST

Adam, take a cue from Rufus Wainwright — proud and undeniably talented.

Avoid over-exposure and cheap celebrity — just go make great music and rock steady, baby.

kyla | 6/14/2009, 10:15 pm EST

omgg i love adam lambert hes sooooooooo H-O-T cute ahhhhhhhhh hes sooooooo sexy i love u

dlt | 6/14/2009, 11:14 pm EST

BLTs is tastey. Can Glambooh write at least one half-assed song? Rufus Wainwright can

“Does he own a gun?”
Adam’s gun is apparently really big judging from some of his you tube videos.

well its my 10yr old son who told me about the gay issue,he’s been an Adam fan ever since the American Idol season(2009) started… our bet for (AM), sad thing he said a young good looking guy to be a a gay…but no matter what, your still our American Idol! total performer!!!

looselips | 6/15/2009, 1:47 am EST

I think he will have many men and women throughout his career. He loves the attention from both sexes! It should be all about his talent and not who he sleeps with. I hope there is another Adam and Rolling Stone collaboration in the future! Great Cover!

popgoesthecamera | 6/15/2009, 2:14 am EST

Yes, suspenders and snake on shoulder photos please! And more of the water bottle! We’re dyin here! If we have to buy them, just let me know where.

Nick | 6/15/2009, 2:35 am EST

Sorry….could this “artist” be any more contrived…from his look–late 90’s hot topic–to his whiny singing style. He is not doing anything new or exciting. I could care less if he is gay. I just wish he would stop with the whole Avril Lavigne “I’m rock” pose and just focus on music

Tumi | 6/15/2009, 3:24 am EST

Adam Lambert puts a smile on my face every time I read about him or see his pictures. So gorgeous, talented and outrageous!

dlt | 6/15/2009, 7:01 am EST

BLT w/ turkey bacon, on wheat, rye. I’m sure you know where to find “guns”.

Back to the subject. Is Lambert an artist? Maybe if we’re talking paint by numbers

glambert1920 | 6/15/2009, 9:43 am EST

All I can say is “WOW” Thank you so much Rolling Stone. You are Genius!

Terrie D. | 6/15/2009, 6:06 pm EST

I totally agree with Bruce Kingsley. Adam Lambert is definitely talented & those of you who don’t agree then why google him, blog him or anything else for that matter? So don’t buy his music, don’t buy magazines that feature him & don’t watch him perform in concert or anywhere else, for that matter. Who CARES? He has enough REAL fans without YOUR acceptance. There must be something about him or else you wouldn’t even BOTHER to comment. SO JUST GO AWAY!

Adam who?? | 6/15/2009, 6:59 pm EST

Sorry perhaps ive been living under a rock or something but who the hell is this guy… please tell me he’s not just some idol contestant cause that would be a new RS low if thats the best we could get for a cover.

I remember when it used to really mean something… rock cred you know??? Oh well maybe im just a very jaded 28 year old with nothing better to whinge about :(

rockergirl54 | 6/15/2009, 8:03 pm EST

To Adam Who….Girl you are only 28 years old and you have definitely not been around long enough. You have been living under a rock and have you ever missed out!! I’m 54 and Adam is the greatest singer/performer to come around in decades!!! Since you don’t know who this man is don’t EVEN JUDGE this cover and refer to it as an all time low. The cover is THE BEST THAT RS HAS EVER COME UP WITH!!
ADAM ROCKS MY WORLD!!!

Adam Who??? | 6/15/2009, 11:13 pm EST

As I live outside the US I don’t get American Idol, we have a local version which is just a lame kareoke contest with big TV network backing. Its a glorified game show… with many “tallented” singers who could put together a great tribute or cover band but to be honest nearly always lack not only any real cred but also the ability to come up with their own material as the show gives no credit to original performances… and that is the reality of being an artist….

Adam Who??? | 6/15/2009, 11:41 pm EST

PS – Im a bloke as well… granted probebly the only one viewing this article but yes at last check male …

CC_227 in Switzerland | 6/16/2009, 6:10 am EST

to Adam Who, I agree with you 100%. You are a jaded 28 year old with nothing better to whinge about if you come here and post about critizising someone you don’t even know.
Adam is not one more artist, he is ONE OF A KIND that only appear once in a long while and we are very lucky to have been able to witness his being born as a superstar. That is why he is in the RS cover.
And I’m in Europe, so I guess you DO live under a rock after all if you haven’t heard about him.

dlt | 6/16/2009, 9:05 am EST

High school (and college) can be like ancient Greece. Life beyond, however, is more like Rome.

Of course the reason why Lambooh’s on the cover of glossy Rolling Stone magazine: money. Money and power. The clowns backing AI, media in general, the censored news we see, read. If you allow yourself to become a product, if you’re no artist, you can become a product, a piece of (there’s some short-lived glory), disposable shit. Iggy Pop’s China Girl: “I’ll give ya men who wanna rule the world…” How much of a cut is Lambooh, Clarkson getting? Not even a sliver, compared to the shmart advocates of slave labor running things, battling over each slice of the pie.

There are starving jazz musicians–many others, of course–who have more talent than Lambooh, Aiken, any of em, in one of their thinly clipped fingernails.

ddk | 6/16/2009, 3:46 pm EST

WTF??? Rolling Stone writing about this guy? An American Idol person? WTF?? Jann and Will, did you really approve this article for RS? American Idol does not breed lasting stars…those who will sell tickets 50 years from now! And he is NOT Ziggy Stardust with his makeup. Guess I’m just to old to understand why…

Loved the Dylan interview…first class!! And let David Fricke do all the interviews from now on and Matt write about politics. Are you listening, Jann? I love you!

Woot! | 6/16/2009, 7:38 pm EST

I actually really like Adam Lambert, I am just so excited for the music business. It seems to be flairing up a bit, and Adam is just another chapter. He sure is unique, I hope he does something completely different with his debut then past American Idols, he has spunk, he has a voice and that’s an interesting combination!

AdamRocks | 6/16/2009, 9:51 pm EST

I live in Oregon and can’t find it anywere I went to borders freds and barnes and noble I’m going 2 keep on checking borders. I’m going 2 keep looking for rollingstone issue with Adam on it if it kills me.

Samantha | 6/17/2009, 12:58 am EST

I love Adam’s personality, honesty and good looks, theatrics and all, but with all that voice training how did he get that whine? Seriously? And just because you can sing within a high range doesnt mean you should, but Adam cant resist demonstrating it incessantly at the expense of producing the effective, beautiful music that he is highly capable of.

Adam Who??? | 6/17/2009, 2:30 am EST

Trust me in 10 years time this will be RS cover every one will look to each other and say… “Who was that guy again? Oh remember that TV show… what was it called again? Idol? Oh yeah that was it”.

Beleive me you aint going to see this one signed, mounted and framed on the wall of the Hard Rock cafe.

Teri | 6/17/2009, 11:05 am EST

I’m totally not understanding the people who maintain that Adam shouldn’t be on the RS cover due to his having arrived at celebrity via a reality show. Adam chose American Idol as his platform because he’d already worked hard on his craft since the age of 10 and in Hollywood for the past 8 years hoping to be noticed. It’s a huge world out there with many, many talented people vying for a spot in the limelight, and being noticed at the right place/right time by the right people requires a certain amount of luck, just like winning the lottery. If you win the mega million lottery, does that mean that because it was a game, you’re not really rich? By the same token, does Adam’s having been “discovered” via a game mean that he really has no talent?

I think that choosing AI to showcase his talent was a brilliant move by Adam. Those he worked for in Hollywood clubs and worked with in theater were in awe of his talent and encouraged him to go on Idol so that the world could hear him. He had to audition to get on Idol, and then once on the show, the judges moved him up the ranks because of his awesome voice and range. Then, as the game progressed to the voting rounds, America responded to what they heard and saw by voting him all the way to the finals. Millions of people watched the show, so millions thought Adam was truly talented. (Of course, there were also many who thought Adam “screamed” or just didn’t enjoy his voice, but that’s the case with all music and why we have such a variety of styles from which to choose; Not everyone likes the same things.) Additionally, guest mentors such as Slash, Jamie Foxx and Smokey Robinson all praised Adam’s vocal ability (Smokey even gave Adam a standing ovation after hearing him sing an interpretation of one of Smokey’s own songs), and Brian May, who performed on-stage with Adam was so taken with his “…amazing instrument…” that he later contacted Adam to discuss potential future collaborations. Even Kiss’ Gene Simmons, who has made a few off-color remarks about Adam and his self-outing, acknowledged that he is very vocally talented and “…should have won” American Idol.

Anyway, there have been 16 winners and runners-up of American Idol in the eight years the show has been on the air, and few have graced the cover of Rolling Stone. In Adam’s case, these facts make him acutely interesting and, in my opinion, worthy of the RI cover:
1. He has quickly attracted a huge base of devoted fans that includes many in the music industry and other entertainment celebrities;
2. The judges on the show who are industry experts were in awe of his talent and recognized his unique “star” qualities;
3. It is safe to say, I believe, that Adam has generated more internet buzz and meda attention than any American Idol contestant in the show’s history. Yes, much of it has had to do with previous speculation about his sexuality, but there have been other gay contestants who were not “out” on the show, and speculation about them was much less intense. I think it’s because, whether you like or dislike him, Adam’s stage presence and unique voice have made millions take notice and talk about him. I’ve yet to meet anyone, including my nearly 80-year-old father-in-law, who doesn’t know who Adam is.
4. Adam is among the first (the ONLY one I can think of) who has entered the rock/pop music industry and divulged his homosexuality BEFORE becoming established (or, in his case, even making his first CD). He is honest and has guts, which will serve him well throughout his career!

My final point is that, even if you, personally, don’t like someone, it’s ridiculous to say that, based on YOUR opinion, that person shouldn’t achieve success or grace a cover of a certain magazine. There have been many groups or people on the cover of RS that I didn’t particularly care for, but I didn’t go looking for the website article about them so I could comment on how awful I thought they were or why I thought they weren’t worthy. My opinion is my own; I acknowledge that others have the opposite view and the right to have their favorites highlighted. Adam is MY favorite, so I was thrilled to see him on the cover of Rolling Stone. Others who have been on the cover that maybe I didn’t care for were others’favorites, so I’m glad for those people that they got to see their chosen artists/celebrities on the cover.

dlt | 6/17/2009, 2:01 pm EST

We know the difference between republicans and democrats: republicans like expensive shit and so do many democrats. I can think of one good republican band, the Fleshtones.

Smokey Robinson, Slash, Etc. are gentlemen; do ya think they wanted to make the kid feel bad? Also, they were probably thinking about their own careers, their own retirements.

Bah humbug

Andrea in KC | 6/17/2009, 2:32 pm EST

I finally found a copy of Rolling Stone believe it or not at Blockbuster’s….

It was sold out everywhere else. I went to like Walmart, Target and CVS

Adam Who??? | 6/17/2009, 7:03 pm EST

To be honest with you all my problem lies with Idol not this artist as I’ve never heard him (no Australians have that I have asked – and I work in Radio) Idol worked for one season… both here and in the US. Kelly Clarkson and the Australian season one winners all held huge success but we have had 5 or 6 seasons since which have not produced any enduring tallent. Evidense of this lies in the fact that the only American Idol anyone I have polled can remember let alone like is Kelly Clarkson. American music is massively popular in Australia however the Idol concept only works if you pull a massive TV audiance and hype up the artist with an explosion of exposure, this is why the guy will never go international cause the American Idol show simply doesn’t get a high number of viewers outside the US. We have our own version of the show … and yes we get very similar looking 15 minutes of fame artists that apeal to 15 year old school girls for a month then simply get replaced by a new hot fad the next year. And you wonder why I question getting the cover?

BabyBoomer4Adam | 6/17/2009, 7:39 pm EST

This young man is a once in a great while talent. Thank you RS for having the vision to put him on your cover. He has across the board appeal, no matter your age, gender, sexuality, geographuy, or any other divider you choose; he unites. Can’t wait for his first release and I will buy a Rolling Stone mgazine and have NEVER purchased one before, in my 54 years.

Dorena | 6/18/2009, 2:48 am EST

Adam is sexy gorgeous. RS Thank you for putting him on your cover. For those doubters, Adam does have original music that was written before AI & it’s all great stuff. People are excited about him because he is the real deal and has proven that he can sing anything well. Adam has a lot of expectations from all of us with his album. All of his fans know that what Adam says he will do – he will absolutely do and he will do it well. Can’t wait what the future brings with this amazing man! Yes, post the suspender pic!

dlt | 6/18/2009, 7:37 am EST

Of course Australia and other countries–folks in the US as well–have never heard of Glambooh. It’s American Idol, American. Americans don’t know too much/anything about Australian Idol, or whatever it’s called, Australian stars.

The power of the press, hype. As (the Reverend) Little Richard would say, the power of the “mouth”. In other words, more smoke than fire

Donna | 6/19/2009, 7:11 pm EST

Just read on MSNBC.com Adam is releasing an album this summer that was recorded in 2007/08. Can’t wait for this one. Rock on Adam we love you. Kris who?

jw | 6/20/2009, 9:00 pm EST

im australian and i watched this season of american idol and i loooove adam lambert. i cant believe he didnt win, which was also covered on the news here. i know plenty of people who know him and i believe he will be a huge star. what radio station do you work for? one that doesnt require you to be able to spell obviously. maybe you should ask for a raise so you can afford cable and know whats going on in the world. the only difference between australian idol and american idol is that an artists sexuality would not determine the outcome!

DONNA K | 6/20/2009, 11:28 pm EST
