read the article today, which enhances the sense we all have of adam as being spontaneous, genuine, full of life, dynamic. i worry for him though. i feel like he’s a little like a hyperactive kid, yes a flower child of sorts as they describe him in the article. i worry that he needs his manager/publicist or someone to help him filter some of his straight from his head into his mouth honesty. — not in real life, of course (who wouldn’t love that about him) — but as he navigates the treacheries of stardom. (0h, and loved that he said he was bi-curious! i think leaving a little more to the imagination of some of his more parochial fans is a good thing for any celebrity’s career).

I really think Adam was so in awe that he was holding back tears! Have you ever seen anyone so precious and gracious and thankful?! I have to say, in Canada, we’re all ga-ga over Adam too. I have two magazine stores holding my copy of RS when Canadian stores get the Adam cover. The problem is, stores like the big bookstores here don’t get the next Rolling Stone until next Thursday, June 18! All the stores I’ve been too are still stacked with the last issue! And I just have to add this: Entertainment Tonight featured Adam on the show tonight and commented that he’s getting all the exposure despite Kris winning. Then had to add, “But let’s not forget about Kris.” Go figure.

Wow, Is all I can say. He is a breath of fresh air. His honesty is such a turn on. Such a talented and gifted man and that cover was the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. Ralston is a genius. I was so mesmerized by the chest hairs I didn’t even notice the snake.

Getting my own copy of Rolling Stone (for the first time in years) was TOH-tally worth it, what a fascinating article. My only disappointment was that some of the really stunning photos (ESPECIALLY the glitter shaker nod to Velvet Goldmine one, so kickass) shown in the behind the scenes vid weren’t included. PLEASE tell me you are going to put them online, and not tiny like this vid, but in all their HQ glory!

I went looking today in San Francisco and only found the Lady Gaga issue. I read people in NY had them – what’s up? Adam Lambert’s Rolling Stone’s Cover was sold out at 8 stores in Tucson when I went to get it today around 4 pm. I’m so mad. I am having to drive out of Tucson to the next major cities to try and get it. I can’t believe the stores did not bring in more copies. The Barnes and Noble was sold out in less than an hour. If I have to drive to Phoenix I will but I seriously hope that won’t have to happen. They still had some Lady Ga Ga mags in the back but I drove all the way there for Adam Lambert. Grrrrrr. Anyone else have that problem?

I drove all over town today looking for a copy of Rolling Stone with Adam on the cover! Finally found the LAST copy available at a bookstore and it is SOOOOO FABULOUS! The BEST EVER!

I just have to say I had the same reaction Adam did. I got it after waiting in line to get mine and when I finally got to look at it I just starred at it. That is the hottest cover Rolling Stones has ever done. I mean Lady Ga Ga was practically naked! But Adam with all of his clothes on was still SMOKING HOT and SEX GOD and yes I was having some pretty naughty thoughts when checking out the cover. Yes I know he is gay but a girl can fantasize!

A Bookstore chain in my city (Miami) are putting signs in their windows saying “We do not have the Adam Lambert Rolling Stone issue in yet. Please check back on Friday”.
A clerk at one location told me they’re getting swamped with calls and walk in customers asking for it.

I am a Christian who admires Adam Lambert for not trying to hide that he is “gay.” The media would not get past his out-of-this-world talent unless questions about his sexuality were answered to it’s satisfaction. Now that that’s out of the way, AL can get down to the real business of what he was born to do…put out a gazillion CDs and bring his concerts to all of America!!!

Adam is the most amazing talent since Michael Jackson, Prince, Freddie Mercury- he’s all of them rolled into one, with his own spin on it. I have admired his graciousness and intelligent and good humored handling of questions throughout IDOL. He is respectful and genuine. That’s why I am a little upset with the RS article. Isn’t RS supposed to be about music as well as the back story on musicians? It’s a good thing I watched Adam perform and already know what an earth shattering talent he has. I didn’t get any of that from the article. For any one who buys it but missed AI this year, they really won’t get an idea of the incredible birth of a once in a generation career that we are witnessing. Couldn’t the author have given some quotes from the producers, the mentors and the other contestants about what a breakthrough performer he is? Throughout the season, there were comments made all of the time about how helpful and kind Adam has been to others. I didn’t get any sense of that in this article. Couldn’t the RS writer have interviewed anyone else to give the very positive picture of who Adam is that we have gotten from countless sources up to this point? I am not sure why Adam needed to tell us everything about his earlier experiences that led him to where he is now. I am proud that he owns his sexuality and embraces it and is speaking out. Bur TMI! I admire him so much and I worry about how some of the explicit details will be received. I don’t want him to closet or lie, but do we have to know he had a crush on Kris? If he was hetero and had a crush on Kara, would I have to know that? If he had a tongue kiss pic with a girlfriend, would that need to be in the article? Also, he says he dressed in drag only three or four times for fun. It looks like all of those pix showed up in this article! On the RS website they had a photo shoot with countless new pix of Adam that were not in the article. There are loads of great pix from the AI season that show him interacting with mentors, congratulating his fellow contestants, or just performing. I guess I feel that there is not a balance of the good genuine guy that we have seen for months (he said that was not an act, it really was his “best self” that we saw) and the back story about a young man struggling to find what he is looking for and going through a lot of varied experineces to get there. He just got such an amazing contract and the opinion of him is so high. From someone who is a die hard fan like I am, I just have to say that I worry that he said too much. Jimmy Carter didn’t need to tell us that he lusted after other women in his mind, even if it was true. Adam is not keeping secrets if he learns to not tell us every single thing he has ever done. TMI, as I said. I think he is brave and I very much admire his honesty. I do think that half of what he revealed was better left for later in his career in a memoir. For now, I will be front and center at his summer concert and will buy any music he releases. I just feel protective of him and hope that he surrounds himself with good people who give him some advice before he gives another in your face interview like this one. I don’t want him to sink his career before it begins. Love you Adam!

I agree with you totally “Protective of Adam.” The main reason the media is so hyped up about AL is because of his sexuality. If AL was “straight” – do you think the media would give him all this attention? AL is the best singer/performer to have come around in almost 100 years, and the media is BLIND to that.
Adam Lambert is new in this business and naive if he thinks the media is his new best friend just because they are falling over each other to interview him and put pictures of him all over the place. Unfortunately, what is so charming about AL seems to be a gentle and open nature, and the media can take advantage of that. He’ll learn quickly that you don’t “spill your guts out” to any media. The media is obsessed with how gay people think and act and tried to pigeon-hole AL as fitting into that “gay” mold, and AL gave them that ammunition for print.

Rolling Stones you sure did catch the allure of Adam Lambert. I mean that is so Adam. It is odd that he is in such a relaxed pose. Yet, it has that old Hollywood Glamor feel to the pose. Adam resonnates sensuality. He is provacative. He puts thoughts into my head I haven’t had since I was in my teenage years. And yet he also seems rather innocent and helpless. He makes you want to protect him. Keep him from being hurt. It is a very confusing picture and yet so powerful because you know this lad will take part in changing our society. He is a bit wild but he is an IDOL. In my thoughts he should be the American Idol. He certainly is the Sexiest American Idol in 8 years. But whether he realizes it or not his influence will change society and the way middle America thinks about Gays and Gay Marriage and more. Adam is becoming one of the most influential men in America. I read he doesn’t want that responsibility but it is something God has given him. He is chosen. Yep, Adam Lambert the Wild Idol will go down in history as one of the chosen people. I hope he is ready for this. I think if he does what he did on Idol he will be one of the really great ones. And not just a great singer.

That vid of Adam seeing the cover for the first time is just precious. I am so happy for him, and seeing his reaction, I kind of got a lump in my throat. He’s worked so hard for this; I’m just thrilled that it’s finally paying off for him!

I give up but I looked all over town today for a copy of the Rolling Stone Magazine and it was sold out everywhere even in the 3 Best Buy stores. So tomorrow I will search again and put in requests at two of my book stores to have them find me a copy. I want to frame one of them and the others will be keep sakes for when he blows up big. Some people have posted here that they worry about Adam revealing too much personal information eg about his early (and I have to say prety mild) drug use; or finding Kris cute – note he did NOT say he had a ‘crush’ on him, just that Kris was his type. Or was this just your cheeky way to stoke up more rumours Adam? You know it can only help sell even more tickets for the AI tour this summer don’t you?
But I think he was/is very, very smart to do this now. He knows the sleezebag pressers will want to dig up as much dirt as they can on him while he is hot and new. To Mr. Cowbell: Adam hasn’t done anything? He made American Idol new again. Or he might have killed it. Think about it. The biggest entertainment show in the states,on it’s last legs because it was getting old and predictable with each contestant sounding the same, and he ALONE made people tune it to see what he would do next. For 4 month we had The Adam Show. Fans from other countries would youtube his performances, flood message boards and scour articles about him. Then, when we thought we would have the BEST IDOL EVER, whitebread America decided to go all Prop 8 on us. It’s all good, though- because the media is on to who America really wants. Who knows how his career will turn out? It will be honestly be up to his management- but he has the potential to be iconic- something we have been looking for for decades. And the ride will probably be as unpredictable as his run on AI.

Adam woke up a lot of older people who never watched AI when the news spread about him. I was hooked with “SATISFACTION” and yes, then it became the Adam Lambert Show each week. Adam kept America entertained on Tuesdays nights for 4 months and we want more, more, more. He has accomplished a lot. Listen to all the songs from Idol and watch the videos. What a voice–what a showman. Good luck, Adam, we are all awaiting the tour and your CD.

As rebel as David Bowie, Prince, Boy George, etc. Adam looks like a rebel post-AI but most of his looks in his AI performances are non-rebels (no gay make-up/eyeliner, goth/rock make-up and goth/rock guyliner up to top 3 night) so we would like to see the two or many sides of Lambert. Adam transformed from being a normal-looking manly guy- ala Joe Jonas/Elvis in the audition and up to goth/rock-looking then finally in the finale and TODAY into gay-looking. What a transformation. Total smoke and mirrors today.

I don’t know why people are comparing Adam Lambert to the Jonas Brothers. Jonas is just a boy band fad that appeals to tweens. Adam’s got the best voice to come on the music scene in years, and he will be a star. Queen already wants them to front the band. I never thought someone would come along to do justice to Mercury vocals, but Lambert can.
Sure, it’s strange to put someone on the cover of RS who hasn’t cut an album of originals yet, but American Idol is the vehicle that made Adam famous. AI also highly regulated what he could and could not do up to this point. That’s why I think it was probably rigged for Lambert not to win. He has much more creative flexibility now. I was not an AI fan until this year but only watched it because of Adam. He will be famous and not just to teeny boppers. Wait and see! Rolling Stone is a music news magazine, plain and simple. Adam Lambert is the hottest new voice to hit the scene in years and very newsworthy. Where are you people getting your publication “rules”? Why is everyone making such a fuss and dwelling on the hey-days of the 70’s? Be open minded and progress people. Adam has an amazing voice and is nothing like the teen music fads mentioned in other posts. He’s going to be around for a long time.

Since when is RS only supposed to have “rock” artists on its covers? Over the years, they’ve had plenty of pop, rap, and blues… even actors. Whoever is hot in the entertainment industry is appropriate for the cover.

Great Cover and Great interview I wish we could buy this in the UK.Adam may not have released an album yet but he has shown what an outstanding singer he is with a vocal range out of this world. Rolling Stone Magazine has faith enough in Adam to know that he is going to be a world wide star.To all of the negative posters on here your entitled to your opinion but you aint going to win the argument about his singing ability or the fact he has the attention of the media world.He is known outside of the USA and there are many American artist that would like to be in that position.He has earned the right to be on the cover of Rolling Stone so don’t knock him or the magazine.If you don’t like it don’t buy it.

Okay, here’s the thing …. Elvis rose in my very early teens, the Beatles hit when I was a high school senior. I “got” the hysteria, but was never part of it. But now, at 61 years old and a grandmother of seven … OMG. There is no one the likes of Adam Lambert. Gay? Who gives a F? If he just sings for us, is his glorious self, I will be enthralled. In truth, I’ve got family members who are gay and could learn a thing or two from Adam about embracing who you are rather than wearing a figurative hair shirt about it. Obviously, I’m not alone. Adam, like it or not, is a symbol for all of us who long to live life according to who we are, not who society would like us to be.
When I first heard about the RS article, it struck me that this could be the best selling RS edition ever and possibly the best selling single edition of a magazine ever. Is Adam that amazing? Hell, yeah.
It’s the combination of unabashed sexiness and genuine sweetness, the tongue in cheek flirtatiousness and burst of belly laugh that hooks us.

I guess I’m just baffled how exactly does this guy, who still hasn’t done anything substantial (well, he IS entertaining, but I think that’s not the kind of entertaining you’ve been talking about), equals other people who share this position – like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger; or, to go less rocky, even Orlando Blum or Christina Aguilera? That’s exactly what Lenny Kravitz has been talking about recently, talking about how poisonous these shows can be – kids who want to be famous/fabulous. But what with? Because it is certainly NOT his music, as he has none. Oh wait, I’ve forgotten – he does HAVE some, that he himself states is crap in one of his numerous interviews; not to mention there doesn;t seem to be a word about it in the interview in question. So it’s not about his previous musical efforts, it’s not exactly because of his recent ones, as he doesn’t have anything original yet; the last possible reason is – RS is servicing reality formats now.

Apart from his incomparable talent, Adam deserves this cover because of what he’s done to the hearts of people around the world. He really has turned so many of us otherwise rational adults into fanatical, obsessed, besotted individuals who cannot get enough of him. He’s an incredible person whose courage and talent is a gift to us all.

Here’s my advice to all the cranky, disgrunted old-school RS readers who can’t seem to let go of the fact that this isn’t RS circa 1969: PLEASE MOVE INTO THE 21st CENTURY.

After reading some of the rants–I mean posts–here about Adam’s cover and the fact that he hasn’t yet amassed 20+ years of career highlights in order to have “earned” a spot on the cover of RS, I’d like to suggest that NEW TALENT is what keeps the music world turning. If we don’t pay attention to anyone but Bob Dylan, where are we?

In my opinion Adam Lambert may just represent a paradigm shift in the music world (sorry, geezers). Everyone keeps trying to pigeon-hole him into one genre or another (is he rock? is he goth? is he pop? is he Elvis? is he Freddie Mercury? is he musical theater? is he a lounge singer? is he gay?).

Learn to think outside the box!

Yes there has been a paradigm shift and there is a burgeoning alternative and independent music scene in our country worthy of widespread praise, but an american idol contestant who does not even make music is not part of that shift. Rolling stone must change with the times, that I can agree on. What I do see however is a culture that we have created which projects talentless people into stardom and convinces them of their privilege, case in point a television contestant that believes his sexual preference is somehow news worthy of RS. RS is simply grasping to maintain some semblance of readership by any means possible.

Adam is hot, agreed. Everyone’s waiting for the CD (me too), however his appeal is looking at him while he performs – he is an entertainer. Personally, I think his following will be from concerts. He controls the stage and the audience at the same time. Not to mention his amazing voice and creativity. I know his rendition in Brigadoon is probably not most of this forum’s style, but it is perfectly sung- you all should listen to it! I’m a music major, grandmother, & wife. My husband thinks I’m nuts about my craziness over Adam, but has agreed to go to the AI concert this summer!

Well, we people of the loving heart and open mind, we evolved souls applaud Rolling Stone for the Adam Cover. No one in decades has generated so much interest as this kid, and he is courageous, honest, articulate and intelligent. His performances are intoxicating, brillant, seductive, and mesmerizing. I already ordered my copy of Rolling Stones featuring Adam from Ebay, can’t seem to get in the UK. Hope RS sales go through the roof and validate our Adam.

Judging from the comments here, the vast majority loving the new RS cover, it is clear there is a bit of a culture war going on. I will not respond to any individual negative posters but all of you who do not like Adam or don’t agree with him being on the cover of RS – you must ask yourself what is your REAL problem with Adam? It is obvious to many he is exceptionally talented, humble and if you researched him you would know he has worked very hard. But if you really cannot comprehend his talent or his appeal then why not just listen to what you do like or read about who you do admire, rather than send hate messages. There are many bands and artists that I don’t like particularly but I do not go googling and sifting through the internet and leave negative posts about them. Instead I listen and read up on the stuff I enjoy, and in Adam’s case, adore. Please do likewise and stop pi**ing on the fans and Adam’s parade.

I went to 4 stores yesterday looking to buy at LEAST one copy and had no luck. I am so bummed. RS, please put out MORE copies next time you have Adam Lambert on the cover. Thank you!

For the record, I am a fan and I have no problem with him being gay and I think it was important for him to get it out there in print so people can get over it. That said, I don’t like the article. It gives a totally different impression about his character than I had gotten during other interviews. Way too much information. Then again, I’ve always been one to like a little mystery. He should have saved some if it for later when he’s looking back on a long, successful career. If I didn’t see other sides of him during the competition and other post interviews, I would think he was a just a club kid. I just don’t think the article did him justice. It seemed to focus on things that would cause people to talk, that’s all. I am sure he will get some good and bad from it. Either way, I wish him success. He has provided much enjoyment to many so far.

Congrats RS for having the foresight into putting Adam Lambert on the cover of your magazine early on in his career. Adam will prove to the naysayers that he does in fact belong on your cover. Although he hasn’t released an album yet he has written several original songs. He has also been working hard to get his name out there for years and decided to go on American Idol so that he could reach millions of people with his music.

Before trashing Adam or RS why don’t you give him a chance to prove himself. He obviously has a voice (every guest mentor mentions this – even Slash, KISS, and Queen – but you are right naysayers, who are they to know? Who is RS to know?). He’s also a great showman and has great stage presence! It’s just a matter of time.

I’ve got 3 boys, am happily married and love Adam. I can’t wait for his “sell out album.” Adam just keep us old ladies happy. I was actually on a waiting list at our local bookstore and was lucky enough to get one when the first shipment arrived last week. Many weren’t so lucky and have to wait for the next shipment. Funny….the cashier said they had never received calls before requesting RS before it came out. Excellent article. What’s not to love about this guy?

rolling stone went downhill?

…honestly, the people who were on their cover were always the worlds baby from nirvana to britney spears, whatever appeal they had, they had and if it were close to the “classic” artists of way back when (which are todays equivalent to fall out boy and lady gaga and dont say it aint so) then all the more hype music magazines would give. hell you dont even have to play music anymore to be called a “rock star” that hollow meaningless title they seem to apply to Gossip Girl actresses now….

right now its adam and people are saying his singing other peoples songs may not say much about what his original work will be like but if you dig through youtube you can find some original work…not bad stuff, yet unnoticed until he promoted himself through American Idol (honestly, how great a tactic was that?) I’m glad he did because he has a vocal talent that’s backbreaking orgasmic and real.

oh well, poor adam. he’s talented but how far can his career go if he’s just being criticized for being gay? really, i thought we were a changed nation..then again, i’m a bit delusional. apparently, we’re still freaked out about real talent, its just as intimidating as it always has been.

well whatever, i’ll buy his record even if everyone else is too busy yawning by then.

Adam is a once in a generation talent. Everyone recognizes it- Smokey Robinson (standing ovation for Adam), Slash, Queen, U2 (gave permission for him to sing their song- first time for IDOL and U2) and Led Zeppelin members (only granted permission for their song because Adam was going to sing it.) That’s music industry cred that most chart topping stars don’t get at the height of their careers. Everyone in the industry recognizes that this young man has something unique and powerful and magical. It’s funny that Gene Simmons was all praise for Adam right after the performance with Kiss, but once he heard comments in the media saying Adam outperformed Kiss he got jealous and said Adam doesn’t have a rock voice. He said Adam has great talent, but not a rock voice. What does that mean? Queen thinks Adam is the closest to Freddie Mercury they have ever heard. Freddie had the best rock voice of anyone ever. Also, Adam totally rocked the Led Zeppelin song and the Aerosmith song he did on IDOL. He can sing anything at a level and with a nuance and presence that is unequalled. We are lucky to see his career unfold from the ground floor up. Save this cover because it will be worth a lot some day.

Rolling Stone you have totally outdone yourself this time. The cover is the best one this year and so incredibly sexy. Your last issue had Lady GaGa practically nude and you know what even fully dressed Adam Lambert exudes more sex, lust, desire, intrigue than Lady Ga Ga did nude with bubbles. I tried to get the Rolling Stone’s Magazine at 15 stores in Tucson and they were all sold out. I now have to ask other family members to find a copy in their states. It is crazy but that is how popular Adamania is.

I live in the UK so I’m still waiting for my copy, I never bothered with Rolling Stone before this. The pictures of Adam online are fantastic, and I’m so looking forward to reading the full article. American Idol was Shown on ITV2 over here, which is a minor digital channel. I don’t usually bother with American Idol either, But I saw a few seconds of Adam doing Ring of Fire one day while channel hopping and was hooked.

Grew up in the days when guys spent their time arguing over which rock band was best and then trying their damndest to recreate those sounds in their backyard garages. Loved watching Adam pay hommage to the rock gods-about time someone did! Am so tired of the music scene being dominated by poptarts and rappers (neither of which can sing a lick). Best male voice to hit the music scene in years. Go Adam and lots of success.
