Blink-182’s Travis Barker Talks New Song “Up All Night”

With Blink-182’s reunion tour set to kick off next month, drummer Travis Barker is giving fans some hints about to expect from the band’s next album. Barker tells MTV News, the bands Blink members joined during their hiatus — +44 and Angels & Airwaves — will definitely have an influence on Blink’s new tunes, but the trio will also try to pick up where they left off.

“All the stuff we’ve done since we last played and recorded, it will influence the new stuff,” Barker said. One new song fans can expect to hear this summer is called “Up All Night,” which reportedly continues the darker sound of the trio’s self-titled 2003 album. That new tune “feels like it could’ve been on the last record, or right where the last one left off,” Barker said. “It’s kind of heavy, if you mixed Box Car Racer [Tom DeLonge and Barker's side project] and Blink. It all makes sense. The pieces are all together.”

Like No Doubt and Aerosmith, Blink are hitting the road prior to recording a new album in order to get the creative juices flowing. Blink hoped to start making demos right away, but Barker’s recovery from his September 2008 jet crash, coupled with the band’s desire to rebuild their onstage chemistry delayed any new material. “We just started practicing for the tour, going through the old shit, playing the greatest hits — only we’d start experimenting on them a bit, working on different versions,” Barker said. “So, it ended up that some of the old songs have new flavor to them, and then we also got around to making four demos, including one song that’s pretty much complete,” he added, referring to “Up All Night.”

While the band hopes to work on the new album as soon as the tour wraps, both Barker and Mark Hoppus are planning to bring a studio on the road with them during their reunion tour.

I really liked Boxcar Racer and Blink’s last album (maybe more so than earlier releases), so if what Barker says is true, I feel relieved.
