As anyone who watched last night’s Game One of the NBA Finals can attest, the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant is a very talented basketball player. So talented, in fact, Lil Wayne took time out of his busy schedule to pen an ode to the Lakers’ Number 24. The track, called “Kobe Bryant” and reportedly produced by Infamous, combines Bryant post-game interview clips, announcer accolades and Wayne spitting rhymes about the finer aspects of Kobe’s game.

“He’s the greatest on the court, I’m the greatest on the verse,” Weezy raps. Wayne, an enormous sports fan who blogs for ESPN, also tackles the “Who’s Better: LeBron James vs. Kobe Bryant” debate, firmly placing himself in the Kobe camp rather than supporting Justin Timberlake’s man-crush LeBron. Listen to the song at XXL.

As for the rap-rock Rebirth, MTV reports that while work on the album has finally been completed, the LP has been pushed back once again, this time to August 18th.

“Expect great music. That’s all I ever want them to expect from me,” Wayne told MTV after the Movie Awards. “I wanted to grow and show my growth as well. It’s a difference from when you go in a room and come out and you’re better and everyone says, ‘How did you do that?’ So with this album, I wanted everyone to see my growing pains.” Potential Rebirth tracks include first single “Prom Queen,” “Hot Revolver” and the Beastie Boys-inspired “Fix My Hat.” As Rock Daily previously reported, producer Dre of Cool & Dre compared Rebirth to OutKast’s genre-bending Aquemini.

So I guess Rebirth is fitting to be the next Chinese Democracy? Every time the album’s release date nears, it gets pushed back to another date. He better realize that when you promise people that your record is going to come out at a certain time over and over again, eventually people are gonna get fed up and move on.

first, screw the Lakers. second, Lil Wayne will lose all credibility with this “rock album.” if it contains auto-tune, it is AUTOMATICALLY not a rock album. plus, the singles are crappy

yo, yo, yo,-hold up dudes, not am I only the Rock & Roll Authority & respected Poet & Musician, but I am also a respected Sports Commentator, so you all need to listen to me.
Kobe has had enough problems in his career, and doesn’t need to align himself with this little Gangsta Wayne, can you dig what I’m sayin here!?
As for the Lebron/Kobe thing, I’m calling it a tie for now, Lebron played great in the finals, but in the end, couldn’t get it done. My people tell me that you will see him next season as a NY Knick, & you heard it here first.
Lil Wayne is bad newz, so get that through your thick heads, and listen up when “Brutha J’ graces the Rolling Stone Blogs, your dismissed.

haha | 6/7/2009, 10:02 pm EST

8E@$+ | 6/11/2009, 10:55 pm EST

hey brutha j or watever ur name is i dont think LBJ would build a huge mansion with a bowling alley hair salon and movie theatre if he was goin 2 NY plus i dont think he would leave the place he grew up in and just leave his family like that he just wants a bigger contract like any smart athlete and lil wayne is the best so dont dis him

Boitumelo trey ata | 6/25/2009, 9:24 am EST

Yeah, ayt….wayne do ur stuff man u da best

BpN | 7/1/2009, 11:48 pm EST

Yeah Brother J I didnt hear it here first, I heard it a long time ago, and not from you. There is a big chance he will be leaving for the Knicks, and the main reason LB’s good friends with Jay-Z part owner of the Knicks, plus a big pay day if he leaves Cleveland. Besides he cant win one with Cleveland even with Shaq (an old dog) so he will leave, probably for Jay’s team.
