Aerosmith had hinted that they’d play one of their albums live in its entirety during their summer tour with ZZ Top, and now Steven Tyler and Co. report it’s a done deal: Tyler and Joey Kramer told Boston radio station WZLX they’ve chosen 1975’s Toys in the Attic. Toys, which hit Rolling Stone’s list of the Greatest Albums of All Time, features the hits “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion.” Listen to the Tyler and Kramer’s whole interview with WZLX here.

In our Greatest Albums feature, RS declared Toys the moment where Aerosmith “perfected their raunchy blues-rock sound” and highlighted guitarist Joe Perry’s memorable riffs on “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion.” The album captures Tyler writing with zest about his favorite topic: sex. Since its release, the LP has sold more than 8 million copies.

According to Blabbermouth, Perry recently told VH1 Classic Radio it “would be fun” to play Toys in full live. “We do a lot of songs off the first four records anyway. We’ve jammed on ‘Uncle Salty’ onstage a few times,” Perry said. “The later records with more songs on them, they would take up too much time in the set. We need to leave some room for some of the other standards.”

As Rock Daily previously reported, Perry also let slip that the band was considering releasing their new Brendan O’Brien-produced album as a Walmart exclusive. The Aerosmith-ZZ Top tour kicks off next week, June 10th, in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

The song “Toys in the Attic” is underated and underplayed. A great rock song, can’t wait to hear it.

SCott | 6/4/2009, 2:52 pm EST

I would have preferred “Rocks” but still I am now even more upset that I can’t go.
Please do a proper in the UK Aerosmith, you were great at Hyde Park!

marco segura | 6/4/2009, 5:55 pm EST

I thing aeosmith is a great and I am only 10 years olb

The Seeker | 6/4/2009, 8:05 pm EST

I hope this means ZZ Top will do something similar, like play “Tres Hombres” in its entirety. That would be amazing.

Yikes | 6/4/2009, 8:29 pm EST

Stephen Tyler has had so much plastic surgery that he looks like Joan Rivers with a wig on.

I can’t wait to go see Aerosmith on June 24th when they come to Pittsburgh. Despite getting older, they haven’t let that get in their way of performing and making some of the best records of all time. Getting to see them is the best 18th birthday gift I could possibly ask for. Seeing Toys in The Attic in it’s entierty is refreshing, knowing that there is still good music out there that actually takes talent to perform, unlike most of the garbage teenage boy-bands and pop singers play today. I can’t wait, keep rocking Aerosmith, this world needs musicians like you to keep the real music alive.

kcv | 6/4/2009, 11:25 pm EST

this is cool but how about an lp of new material before they all turn 70! lol

Watch Dog | 6/4/2009, 11:41 pm EST

R.E.M.’s cover version of “Toys in the Attic” is actually better than Aerosmith’s (original) version, in my humble opinion. Still, looking forward to seeing The Boys From Boston do the “Toys in the Attic” LP in its entireity, live! And yes, what’s with with Steven Tyler and all that plastic surgery? Jeez. Let it go, Steve. Were at your shows to hear your voice–period!

Why did I have to get laid off before buying Aerosmith and ZZ top tickets? Why?!

The Intl | 6/5/2009, 2:28 am EST

why?

Greg | 6/5/2009, 2:32 am EST

“You See Me Crying” is a great song!

john | 6/5/2009, 7:19 am EST

im going to pretend I did not read the comment where someone said REM’s version of “Toys in the Attic” is better than the Aerosmith original…

kliff | 6/5/2009, 10:12 am EST

playing an entire album/cd is the new ‘let’s get an orchestra to play with us’ schtick. just play the great songs, dangit!

grayson | 6/5/2009, 11:03 am EST

best song on Toys, “No More, No More”…

wawijrr | 6/5/2009, 12:33 pm EST

I KILL on Toys with Aerosmith Guitar Hero!

Rich CT | 6/5/2009, 12:57 pm EST

Why anyone would go see these guys anymore is beyond me! tyler can’t hit any of his notes and blabbers thru most of the show, and they already have 2 guitars in the band and they need a guy playing guitar in the shadows to fill the sound!!! they suck. Saw them with kiss and Kiss actually played better!!!!

indian | 6/5/2009, 2:03 pm EST

meh..this is the same with Green Day wanting to play the whole album of 21st Century this summer, i want to hear all the hits! not just one album for the night :(

Jordan Catalano | 6/5/2009, 2:19 pm EST

Yeah, they may be older than yr parents, but albums like ‘Toys’ are among the best rock has ever produced. This show is going to be epic! I agree with ‘Scott’–they need to follow it up by playing ‘Rocks’ front to back. That would be just as awesome! And for the grumblers, they’re not *just* playing ‘Toys’. Be assured that they’ll still trot out all of those classics you love so much. I mean, like they’re not going to play “Dream On.”

BRING IT, BOYS!

Al V. | 6/5/2009, 2:58 pm EST

I saw the original Toys in the Attic tour. It was awesome and this one will be too.

deano | 6/5/2009, 3:10 pm EST

Personally, I was hoping they’d play all of “Night In The Ruts.”

sean | 6/5/2009, 7:45 pm EST

yea, Rocks would have been great to hear in it’s entirety as well, but I’ll take Toys. I might actually buy a ticket now. I much prefer the drugged up ’70’s albums to the polished commercial ’80’s/90’s hits.

J | 6/5/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Kind of a purest myself. Toys – great, Rocks even better…but what about the original album? Some great songs on there. And not a damn thing commercial about it.

Get Yer Wings | 6/5/2009, 10:29 pm EST

I first saw these guys in 1975 also, on the original “Toys” tour. It will be great to hear the whole thing again, especilly “Uncle Salty”, which they never do live! Kick some butt, boys, and next time do “Get Your Wings” or “Rocks”!

axlroserules | 6/6/2009, 11:20 am EST

Please Joe, say it ain’t so that the band is making a deal with Wal Mart to release the new album……….

That means the new Asmith CD will be squeaky clean…………and that sux for us fans who miss the raunch & blues of old school Asmith.

thomas | 6/7/2009, 9:13 am EST

Good Lord, please let these “exclusive Wal-Mart deals” die!
How about an exclusive independent record stores deal???
Oh, thats right..there are no more independent record stores! Thx Wal-Mart.

HappyJames | 6/7/2009, 11:03 am EST

‘Toys’ and ‘Rocks’ are their best stuff. Heard ‘Last Child’ the other day on WDVE, still kicks ass!

Round and Round | 6/7/2009, 11:25 am EST

From “Toys” will be off the hook……and no I don’t mean that Ratt song from “The Wrestler”

romer0 | 6/7/2009, 7:11 pm EST

isnt a song very aracttic but no is the better

TERRY | 6/8/2009, 12:08 am EST

Toys In the Attic was definitely one, if not the best albums ever. However, I was 15 at the time, not the 50 I am today. There are too many bands hanging around well past their prime, charging top bucks and unable to deliver the goods. They had their day but what the hell do they matter now?

Kelly Foxx | 6/8/2009, 2:24 am EST

I love Aerosmith! Can’t wait. I think “Rocks” is by far their best album, but “Toys” and “Get Your Wings” kick ass. I’m only fifteen but I’m an Aerosmith freak. I love them so much, and I hope I get to go see them on this tour. I’m so relieved they’re playing the old shit, as opposed to the mediocrity of “Just Push Play”, which was good, but not that great for fucking AEROSMITH!

Who cares? With top ticket prices for the tour at $220 plus service charges the boys have proven its about the money and not the music. Plus, all the good seats are priced higher than that with their special ticket packages.

angi | 6/11/2009, 10:17 am EST

Saw Aerosmith w/ 3 Doors Down last night in Missouri. Awesome show as always! Well worth the 1 1/2 hour weather delay (hail & tornados). Aerosmith still has it!!!

valium and fear images | 7/2/2009, 3:18 pm EST

Perfect work!
