The Beatles made history when they performed the first-ever concert at Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965, and now Paul McCartney will break in the New York Mets’ newest home on July 17th and 18th. Tickets for the first-ever shows at Citi Field in Queens go on sale June 15th at 10 a.m. ET exclusively at 507TIXX.com and the Mets’ ticket-charge line, 718-507-TIXX.

“I am really excited about playing Citi Field,” McCartney said in a statement. “The Beatles were the first to play at Shea Stadium and along with Billy Joel, I was the last to sing at the old Shea. So to be the first to play this stadium is incredible. I am really looking forward to a buzzing show.”

The pair of gigs will be McCartney’s first in the States since his headlining set at Coachella in May, where he played a host of Beatles classics, broke out material from his Fireman project and paid tribute to George Harrison and John Lennon (read the full report). The last time he took the stage in New York (at David Lynch’s April 4th meditation benefit Change Begins Within), he briefly reunited with Ringo Starr, who sang “With a Little Help From My Friends.” The mini-reunion was completed during the encore, when Starr took his seat behind the drum kit for a group performance of “I Saw Her Standing There.”

McCartney also performed “I Saw Her Standing There” when he helped Billy Joel say farewell to Shea Stadium in July 2008, at the last-ever concert at the Mets’ home since 1964. McCartney closed out that show before a capacity crowd of 55,000 by taking over Joel’s piano for a stirring rendition of “Let It Be.” The seating capacity at the new stadium is 42,000.

On Monday, McCartney was on hand in Los Angeles to unveil The Beatles: Rock Band, the first video game featuring the Fab Four’s music.

I wonder how much the tickets will cost. They’ll probably be outrageous, but I can’t find price info…

PhillyPhanatic | 6/3/2009, 1:49 pm EST

Hopefully Mets fans will take this opportunity to enjoy something positive happening at Citi Field.

jilly | 6/3/2009, 1:49 pm EST

Will Ringo play the drums ?

rob t | 6/3/2009, 4:10 pm EST

I hope all of you have the Fireman CD, it’s one of Paul’s best in the last 10 years.
I hope I can get tickets to this show.
Paul is of course one of the last true complete rock legends. I hope he continues to write and song into his 70s.

Ric | 6/3/2009, 5:39 pm EST

Well at least the money they spent wasn’t completely wasted on the shitty Mets. Thanks Paul!!! Artie Lange Rules!!!

Yung Bluud | 6/3/2009, 6:15 pm EST

Why the fuck would anyone go to met stadium to see the dude who called everyone a communist? What is he going to read the book Is this tomorrow to everyone?

Snagglepuss | 6/3/2009, 7:48 pm EST

Ric, you’re an asshole. You must be a Yankee fan and Artie Lange is a fat, burnt out pig. You don’t see any big name artists playing at the new Yankee stadium, do you?

jr in ny | 6/3/2009, 9:40 pm EST

The Mets and Yankees are not selling all their best seats because they overpriced them. I hope the same mistake isn’t made for these shows. I’d hate to see them not sell out but if the prices are too high, they won’t.

Anyone know the prices for the txt to see Sir Paul?

Jim | 6/6/2009, 12:02 pm EST

not sure bout NYC, but Halifax tickets are 136.00 Cdn and about 350 VIP. Jazz Festival, Tall Ships, and the end of the week..ends with a Kiss concert in same venue.

Rockin Robin | 6/6/2009, 12:08 pm EST

These shows will sell out in minutes.
I’ve seen him three times, I’ve seen Prince, U2, the Stones, Elton, Joel, Springsteen, every big name imagineable.
It’s not even close, his shows are worth every dime you pay.
They are timeless events!

Hex | 6/6/2009, 6:51 pm EST

Oh My God!
Looks like Sir Paul may end up with a full blown US Summer tour.
Come to D.C. area please.
Although I will be at Shea/Citi, whatever the venue.
Wont let myself miss a single show. Just about every musician on the planet knows who Sir Paul is. You don’t even need to know the English language, around the world those 4 Lads from Liverpool who changed the world forever.
In the immortal words Of John, Paul, George, & Ringo,
“All You Need Is LOVE”

Hey Young Blood,
You should really should get your facts right. McCartney never made such a statement. Your just another dope writing nonsense.

As someone said before will Ringo play the drums? Even if it is for only one or two songs that would definately make the show. Not that Paul already doesn’t make the show.

dennis | 7/16/2009, 7:49 pm EST

Ringo doesn’t have to play drums just sing. With a little help from my friends, Yellow Submarine, Octopus Garden

OneTallGal | 7/17/2009, 12:35 pm EST

I am so siked. We’ve got tixs for 7/18. Believe it or not I actually saw The Beatles @ Shea I still have my tix from that show. Can’t wait !
