Trent Reznor Says Marilyn Manson Has “Become A Dopey Clown”

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has spoken out against his former protégé Marilyn Manson, calling the shock rocker “a dopey clown” in a new interview with Mojo. According to Spinner, Reznor had some harsh words for the Antichrist Superstar, saying, “He is a malicious guy and will step on anybody’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol now rule his life and he’s become a dopey clown.”

Reznor indicates tension between the pair began during NIN’s The Downward Spiral tour in 1994. “During the Spiral tour we propped them up to get our audience turned on to them and at that time a lot of the people in my circle were pretty far down the road as alcoholics. Not Manson,” Reznor told Mojo. “His drive for success and self-preservation was so high, he pretended to be fucked up a lot when he wasn’t.”

“Starfuckers, Inc.,” the scathing, celebrity-bashing track on 1999’s The Fragile, was rumored to be partially about Manson, but their friendship seemed to be rekindled when Manson himself appeared in the video — even though Reznor is seen throwing Manson’s Mechanical Animals album in the toilet. “Things got shitty between us and I’m not blameless. The majority of it though was coming from a resentment guy who finally got out from under the master’s umbrella and was able to stab him in the back,” Reznor said.

The Manson critique is one of several Reznor has lodged in the past few months. Earlier this year, Reznor engaged in a Twitter battle with Chris Cornell after offering a less-than-enthusiastic review of Cornell’s album Scream. Prince and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo were also recent targets of Trent’s criticism. Reznor’s comments toward Manson were perhaps spurred on by the release of The High End of Low, which received a two-and-a-half star review from Rolling Stone. “He used to be the smartest guy in the room. And as a fan of his talents, I hope he gets his shit together,” Reznor said.

Manson has gone down hill in his last two albums, but i think its just heartbreak, i hope in the next album that he comes up with will be hard rocking shit.

BK | 6/2/2009, 11:43 am EST

Time to hang it up Manson!

Will you bite the hand that feeds you?

czaria | 6/2/2009, 11:46 am EST

Two peas, one pod.

Blue Eyes | 6/2/2009, 11:58 am EST

I think Manson should reinvent himself – cut his hair, no make-up and sing standards from the big band era.

tina | 6/2/2009, 12:06 pm EST

Reznor’s a 44 year old washed up musician who sits on Twitter all day starting school yard fights with musicians who don’t know that he exists. Who’s the clown?

Country | 6/2/2009, 12:20 pm EST

As Manson would say Shoo Shoo MOTHERF*CKER!!! Why doesn’t Reznor just keep his trap shut until the end of the tour and go the f*ck away. There are not many musicians left to bash. Why the media even prints his opinions is beyond me!!Shoo Shoo………

black tie killer | 6/2/2009, 12:23 pm EST

I think “The High End Of Low” is a really great album. Eat me drink me was not the greatest, but I think since twiggy is back, things appear to be getting much better musically…..I like both NIN and Marilyn Manson. But I think when Trent threw Mechanical Animals in the garbage, that was probably out of jealousy because that album in my opinion is one of the best recorded albums ever. The sound quality is amazing.

Joseph | 6/2/2009, 12:30 pm EST

Trent is absolutely right. He tells it like it is, folks.

It’s time to convert to Christianity and play golf like Alice Cooper, Mr. Warner.

Matt | 6/2/2009, 12:32 pm EST

Is Manson wearing a Snuggie in that picture?

artifcialred | 6/2/2009, 12:45 pm EST

Like Trent Reznor has any room to talk shit about anyone. He can’t even sell concert tickets anymore and has made the same shitty-sounding album over and over and over and over again. How fucking boring can you make it Trent? Go fade into obscurity where you belong!!!

trentisadick | 6/2/2009, 12:50 pm EST

trent should mind his business

he just attacks people like a dick he is. trent go and f*** yourself

artifcialred | 6/2/2009, 12:50 pm EST

Having bashed numb-nut Reznor, I will now say it is time for Manson to stop. I was a fan of his back in the nineties, but his act has gotten a little tired. I am sure he still puts on a pretty visual and cool stage show, but if the music is no good, and it hasn’t been in a long time: then what is the point???? Alice In Chains is coming back to save real, hard rock music with a new album in September. Then we can watch all the pretenders scatter like roaches when the lights go on!!!!!

joebronx | 6/2/2009, 1:07 pm EST

Does anybody care about either of these people anymore?

Word.

Trev | 6/2/2009, 1:15 pm EST

trent reznor OWNS you.

lindy | 6/2/2009, 1:31 pm EST

trent is so dead on! I had been a friend of manson’s for 10 years so i can relate to what trent is saying.

lala | 6/2/2009, 1:36 pm EST

Well, he’s right. Manson became joke long time ago. Time to retire already!

frog leg | 6/2/2009, 1:39 pm EST

whats the deal with all this shit talking trent? first chris cornel then prince and now manson?! your not much of a better person than any them. arnt you a recovering herion addict?! how are you gonna bash manson for drug use when youve been down that road as well. just so you know im a huge fan of your music. i could care less about chris cornell or manson but all this shit talking is making you look like some 16 yr. old gossip queen. in other words…SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

Sammy Bookwel | 6/2/2009, 1:42 pm EST

Sounds a bit like a lovers spat perhaps? Both of these ass clowns suck wang anyhow. Piss off ! Go away!

Stephanie | 6/2/2009, 1:43 pm EST

he’s just mad cause manson’s new album is out. even if its not the best, its a self described state of being that he’s feeling, every musician has there bad moments, and i choose to support him. we have all been heart broken

Stephanie | 6/2/2009, 1:43 pm EST

he’s just mad cause manson’s new album is out. even if its not the best, its a self described state of being that he’s feeling, every musician has there bad moments, and i choose to support him. we have all been heart broken

Anonymous | 6/2/2009, 1:44 pm EST

notice, though, that Reznor didn’t bash Manson’s new album, just Manson himself. The new album is definitely a step in the right direction, if not an altogether return to form

Gabe | 6/2/2009, 1:48 pm EST

Lol. Trent’s last records sucked so bad it wasn’t even funny. Trent has all this criticism for alcoholics when he used to be one – and to top it off – his music has sucked since he got off the juice.

Manson on the other hand, has evolved. Some people haven’t evolved with his music, and are still stuck on shitty sound quality from the 90’s. The question is, who has more album sales and chart topping hits?

Marilyn Fucking Manson.

swarm | 6/2/2009, 1:53 pm EST

really artificialred? NIN still fills up arenas and puts on a killer show. and alice in chains saving hard rock? HA!

Jon G. | 6/2/2009, 2:03 pm EST

BOTH of these guys are irrelevant now.

The High End of No | 6/2/2009, 2:04 pm EST

Trent’s right, everyone knows it… even those that deny it. The truth can hurt. Manson IS a dopey clown. The High End of Low is much better than his last two albums (I’d even go so far to say it’s excellent) but Manson himself is a mess and a joke. He has been going down hill for a while now and it seems as if he’s just about reached the bottom. He can’t perform worth a crap anymore either, thanks to his constant bloated drunken state. He can’t even conduct of decent interview because he’s so loaded, too busy quoting his song titles/lyrics, failing at being funny, and talking about all the drugs he does, how dangerous he is, his girlfriends, ET CETERA! Manson is a parody of himself and the rock cliche he once mocked. That’s why I have to say W-W-W-W-W-WOW.

fatkidfromAurora | 6/2/2009, 2:11 pm EST

Trent Reznor is awesome. About time someone is calling bullshit on these “artists” looking to cash in on terrible records-

Fred Savage | 6/2/2009, 2:11 pm EST

Don’t worry Marilyn, we can always work on that “Wonder Years” reunion show we’ve been talking about!

gh | 6/2/2009, 2:42 pm EST

Manson is still alive? Wherever he was the last 8 years, he should have stayed there!!!

Jonah | 6/2/2009, 2:50 pm EST

It’s Trent giving an old friend a little tough love. Manson at one time had a lot of potential to do some great things in music, but the drugs and alcohol led him to get lazy and comform to his WWE-like persona. Manson thinks he’s Keith Richards, but he’s really a stoned, goth-metal version of Michael Jackson. Reznor is trying to warn Manson before he slides too far in that direction.

Croz | 6/2/2009, 2:58 pm EST

artificialred… I love Alice In Chains (Mad Season) as well, but it isn’t the same without Layne. It will never be 199x again.

mjs | 6/2/2009, 3:07 pm EST

When has MM been relevant at all in the music biz? MM has not been influential at all. (Alice Cooper wanna b – at least AC made some decent music) while TR has influenced many.

steve | 6/2/2009, 3:26 pm EST

Rolling Stone always does this….they take 3 sentences of an interview with Trent Reznor and make him out to be this monster dissing other artists. There’s actually quite a lot more to these interviews other than Trent bashing Manson, Prince, Chris Cornell, etc. but they never report on any of that.

Anonymous | 6/2/2009, 3:35 pm EST

I love reading the comments from most of you… blasting Trent for voicing his opinion.

Aren’t YOU doing the exact same thing?!

You’re a bunch of hypocrites, i tell ya!

NINSUck | 6/2/2009, 3:39 pm EST

all i have to say is “Electric Birds”

j | 6/2/2009, 4:00 pm EST

I don’t care.

futant | 6/2/2009, 4:18 pm EST

trent is dead on!Mansons music and persona used to be so sharp and full of substance, now the only substance to Manson are the ones he puts up his nose.As for the tounge in cheek remark about Prince and Rivers.Read any of their interviews. They go on arrogant rants about writing 5 albums worth of material at a time and how great they are.If there are hundreds of great Weezer songs, why the fuck would they release “Beverly Hills” or “Troublemaker”?If you have a huge collection of great songs why not release em’?Cause the ones you put out suck shit!

Prince's Dog | 6/2/2009, 4:21 pm EST

Has Trent taken inventory of his own life lately?? He’s 44, acting like a 27 year old with a brand new bimbo on a publicity stunt to stay relevant…which failed…like his last albums. At least Manson has always been a clown….Trent has pretended he wasn’t one for years…now we can ALL see the truth. From the made up less than a week in engagement to a starf***** who he met on Twitter, his random unprovoked attacks on everybody, to this out of shape idiot on stage for the Ninja tour who looks disoriented, fat, and old…Reznor is the clown and it’s OVER. Your fans are gone……
By the way!….Manson was right all along about Trent, but nobody believed him…now we can all see.

Prince's Dog | 6/2/2009, 4:24 pm EST

By the way..if you care about someone and you really want to “warn” them and help them, you do just that….you don’t talk s*** about them to the media. TR is an arrogant jerk who cares about no one but himself.
I’m not saying he’s supposed to do anything for Manson given their history, but you sure as hell don’t do what he’s doing.

NINMANSON | 6/2/2009, 4:39 pm EST

Its sad b/c I love both bands. I Seen NIN play a million times live as well as Manson. They are both talented people who just clash. I think its kind out of the blue that Trent decides to make up of Manson right when his new album comes out. But whatever. Seeing NIN live in a few days for the 8th time and I still love NIN. And I can’t wait to see Manson play live again. BTW Manson’s new album is amazing! It should have gotten more then a 2 star review from rolling stone. Take another listen to it. Its one of those CD’s that has to grow on you and those are usually the ones that are the best.

Anonymous | 6/2/2009, 4:41 pm EST

If Trent spent half as much time writing his own music as he does criticizing others’maybe he would be interesting

artifcialred | 6/2/2009, 4:46 pm EST

All I know is, when NIN booked a show in my area they had such a hard time selling tickets they had to give them up at buy one get one free!!! What a fucking poser Trent Reznor is. And if you don’t like AIC, swarm, you are a bigger dumbass than you sound!!

Eloy | 6/2/2009, 4:48 pm EST

Anyway Downward Spiral is the only decent NIN album

A NIN fan. | 6/2/2009, 5:05 pm EST

I wish Trent Reznor would stop making snarky and negative comments about other people in the press.
Even though what he is saying maybe true, he ends up just sounding like a bitter old man.
And he usually ends up making himself look bad instead of the person he is attacking.
It’s sad & disappointing to see him acting like your typical “celebrity”.

Nick | 6/2/2009, 5:14 pm EST

Manson would have been nothing without Nothing Records. Listen to the bootleg unreleased version of Portrait Of An American Family that was done before Reznor agreed to produce them. It sounds like total garbage. Not that the record was that much better than when Reznor got a hold of it, but he polished that turd to make it somewhat listenable.

And even Manson admits Reznor had the musical reigns on Antichrist Superstar, aka the only good album they ever made. So he owes everything to Trent but has acted like a dick about him since ‘98. Interestingly that’s also when Manson’s career started going downhill. Hmmm.

When history is written, Trent Reznor will be remembered as one of the premiere musicians of his generation. And Marilyn Manson will be seen as nothing more than a fad that peaked in 1997.

HA HA HA!!! | 6/2/2009, 5:20 pm EST

“…The High End of Low, which received a two-and-a-half star review from Rolling Stone.”

^^^As if a review from RS means jacks shit! HA HA HA!!!

brian warner | 6/2/2009, 5:22 pm EST

Reznor, what a complete fing nerd that guy is. He criticizes me for being on drugs; hell, the best thing he could do for his career is to start shooting up again. god knows every album he has made since getting off heroin sucks.

heathen2002 | 6/2/2009, 5:45 pm EST

I love it! Trent is dead on. I used to work as an engineer at Ocean Way studios in California years ago. Manson (or rather, Brian Warner) was working in one of the adjacent studios one day coked up out of his mind, no make-up, in a polo shirt.. A polo shirt! What a bullshit artist.. The make-up is gonna start looking even more ridiculous as he gets older. It doesn’t help that this ass-clown’s music sucks a fat one…

dlt | 6/2/2009, 5:53 pm EST

Marilyn Manson is as reactionary as the Catholic kids I’ve known. And Nine Inch Nails–what was that shit all about?

matt | 6/2/2009, 5:54 pm EST

trent your an ass hole yeah u make some good music i am a huge fan of manson how can u call him all these things when youve done the same an anyone out there who says manson sucks have u ever heard of opinion in the music world nothin is fact some people prefer mansons new stuff an some like his older stuff people can say what they like manson is still selling millions an climbing to the top of the charts i mean eat me drink me got to number 8 an i think high end of low will do better run ya moath haters but look at the job manson has got to what u may have i know what job id rather have an at the end off the day all manson is doing is what all of us is doing working to make money but he is getting his fealing off his chest manson rules

Dear Matt, | 6/2/2009, 6:26 pm EST

Your post below is both sad and depressing. Were you drunk out of your mind when you posted that? I feel bad for you- you seem to be terribly unprepared for life.
Sincerely-
Every teacher you ever had

Steve | 6/2/2009, 6:49 pm EST

I thought Manson died of a drug overdose years while getting one of his ribs removed… Trent has become a grouchy old man, he should go back to drinking he might be happier.

bitterthings | 6/2/2009, 7:00 pm EST

Is it just me, or is Manson starting to look like Paul Reubens? (thats pee-wee herman for those that dont know).

Trents right though, I love both bands… Since Trent shrugged off the drugs, he’s looking better and healthier and he’s consistantly delivered amazing music.. Yes he used to be just as bad as Manson is now, but he moved on. Youre not who you were, youre who you are now– and Trent is definately solidifying his position as one of the more crucial figures in the world of music today.

Manson on the other hand? Ive loved every cd, but a blind man could see this slow motion train wreck that has become Manson. The High End of Low is definately a nice change of pace and has quickly become one of my favorite manson records of all time, but he’s gone the way of courtney love of having any sort of relevance in the world today.

footah | 6/2/2009, 7:50 pm EST

Who care both of these guys are not only no longer relevant but there music isn’t even enjoyable to listen to anymore.

N C | 6/2/2009, 7:56 pm EST

Hi Guys, pretty cool discusion (forgive spelling mistakes) that you are having I personally am a huge fan of both NIN nad MM more so Manson though, I can understand Trents concern (despite the negative comments) I suppose i just doesnt want manson to go down the same road he went, and he was his mentor aswell as he admits a fan of his talents, I love all of Mansons records to date, not one i havent liked, I can understand as an artist that change is very important in moving forward, aint you glad that manson is’nt like linkin park or disturbed where all their albums sound the same as the first.. Also if i am correct wasnt it Mechanical Animals that became the most accessible Manson record ever. Despite Antichrist Superstar being the break through album that shocked stupid people…. hence stupid people like rednecks and so on. I do think though that we are all intitled to our opinons, and that trent maybe is just tryna help Manson get his personal life and shit together since he too… once again I know repeat repeat, is not wanting him to go down that road.

I think on a diff subject that High end of low is fantastic, and is an epic of a force that has twiggy and manson playing dirty sex games with instruments.

Thanx guys.

Tony | 6/2/2009, 8:03 pm EST

i think Trent is pissed off because Manson`s new cd kicks the shit out of NIN`S last 2 cd`s

Anonymous | 6/2/2009, 8:05 pm EST

“The question is, who has more album sales and chart topping hits?

Marilyn Fucking Manson.”

LOL. You are kidding, right?

Some Reznor haters around here may be as dopey as Manson since their comments here are:
A)False.
b)Retarded.

god | 6/2/2009, 8:31 pm EST

trent y marilyn son malos pero los kiero igual y los perdono amen

mi | 6/2/2009, 8:41 pm EST

Of course Trent looks like Garth Brooks’ Chris Gaines character these days, so they’re both pretty lame.

Tony | 6/2/2009, 8:48 pm EST

Trent couldn’t be more right. Mason has been a joke ever since Antichrist Superstar (which Trent produced). Everyone knows Manson is nothing more than Trent’s one-time protege. Without Trent, there is no Manson. Manson has turned into a complete assclown.

PA | 6/2/2009, 9:11 pm EST

Its pretty funny anonymous mentions hating reznor while thats all he is fucking doing to other artists.

Realist | 6/2/2009, 9:16 pm EST

To Anonymous,

Since when does high album sales and chart topping hits define good music? 90% of the public doesnt know good music when they hear it.

thinkbeforeyouspeak | 6/2/2009, 9:24 pm EST

as for all this “(whoever/Whatever the fuck) sucks” bullshit, thats your opinion and nothing more then you go on to diss trent for doing the same fuckin thing youre doing. both acts have legions of fans and thats a fact. and ‘relevant’? ‘relevant’ means nothing in music, whats ‘relevant’ is just whats popular and popularity is no measure of talent. mansons live show has gone to shit because his voice always sounds awful these days (nothing like on the cds). im a huge fan of every album both NIN and MM ever released.
PS – rollingstone is garbage, they simply state their opinions as fact and idiots buy and believe it

crzydgldy | 6/2/2009, 9:27 pm EST

Love him or hate him, his comments sure do generate a lot of entertaining discussion. I guess he can’t be that irrelevant.

footah | 6/2/2009, 10:18 pm EST

Being “relevant” really doesn’t have a whole lot to do with what comes out of your mouth especially when the rhetoric is a diatribe on some of your peers. Maybe I am getting old but I remember a time when NIN’s music, lyrics, and videos generated conversation. Not Trent Reznor bitchin about other peoples music

toby | 6/2/2009, 10:22 pm EST

This is a hilarious soap opera of drunk meet dry drunk. Keep these insignificant tales spinning!! It’s like reality TV.

max | 6/2/2009, 11:31 pm EST

Trent Reznor hasn’t made a decent record since With Teeth. He needs to pull his head out of his ass and quit knocking everybody else. He thinks hes Jesus.

Black Hole Sun | 6/2/2009, 11:33 pm EST

Trent is calling out Marilyn for his drug use? That’s like Lindsay Lohan calling out Amy Winehouse for her drug use. Too ironic for words. But I must say, it’s refreshing to see Trent finally pick on someone who might bite back. And considering how Marilyn savagely dissed Wes Borland for going back to Limp Bizkit, I say it’s about time someone did the same to him, even if it’s coming from who’s also no better (although Trent is absolutely right, it’s not just an insult). Either way, this will be VERY interesting to watch. Can’t wait for Manson’s response…

Anonymous | 6/2/2009, 11:44 pm EST

Hmm…Fact: Trent has been a very creative musician and made an excellent combo with Manson in its early years. Fact: Manson in its early years didn’t have an identity to feel proud of back then. Fact: by the time he was no longer working with Trent he was left on his own to forge his career, having its own ups and downs. So far we’ve seen that he’s no longer the Antichrist or whatever you wanna call it, yet he still has a lot of potential that can be channelled in the best of ways. I think musically there is very little that he can contribute anymore, his best areas were always art and literature so why not give it a shot, and probably he could teach those trashy modern writers like Stephenie Meyer a thing or two…

John 5 | 6/2/2009, 11:51 pm EST

I enjoy both Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Mansons albums but I have to say the only reason everyone can love that Mansons albums always sound so different from each other is because before a album’s creation he goes and kicks members of his band and gets new ones. Google him, he has a list of band members almost as long as Guns N Roses. Its not the way a band should be innovative, the guy must be heartless to do that.

Kang | 6/3/2009, 12:08 am EST

I saw that tour at the Hampton Collisium. I remember that no one knew anything about Marylin Manson prior to the show. There was this mystery and roumors about who they were before the show started When they first walked out everyone was like WTF is that??? Then they tore the fucking doors down and fucking rocked hard. It was absolutely nuts, Granted I was on acid and completely out of my mind, but they were fucking raw. Manson at one point pulled out this giant rubber dick and it started spraying white at people. That shit made me go outside to clear my head and I ended up banging some fat chic in the bushes by the interstate. Thanks Marylin!

Marilyn Mansons Come Back | 6/3/2009, 1:22 am EST

Trent Reznor looks like he’s going bald in that picture.

Michelle | 6/3/2009, 1:40 am EST

Manson’s “response” came in the form of a barely coherent Myspace blog:

“i have a knife for every dollar Rent Friendsters made off of me. Attention ONLY to all rapist werewolves: I’m gonna teach you about more than loss. Question is— does this end with my fist in the front of your face or the back of your head? Everyone else, proceed as not planned.”

Translated he means:
Mr Reznor, I don’t need to stab you in the back when I have a knife for every dollar I made you. This is aimed only at Trent and other people who plan to exploit me. I am going to teach you a lesson. The questions is, do I stab you from the back or the front? Everyone else, carry on with your daily routine.

Ryan | 6/3/2009, 1:46 am EST

I love Trent and Manson. Ive waited in line for 12+ hours at shows to get front row center rail at shows before. They both put on an amazing show, and their music is great. Both bands have their highs and lows, their hits and misses.

Trent never said that Manson wasnt talented, he obviousely is. He simply said what he thinks Manson has done to himself over the past several years, and the guy is right.

Manson has become so obsessed with trying to be shocking and edgy, that he depends on drugs and alcohol to feed his creativity. Its hard to open anything about Manson where he himself isnt talking about getting high or drinking. You can look at photos of him and tell the damage that its doing to him.

Really though, to understand what was said in context, people need to read the full article.. This is just one small part pulled out by Rollingstone, and though its hard to take whats said out of context– there is more to the picture.

Maybe Im just reading into it, and Im a little bias after having met and talked to Trent in person, but it seems to me that Trent is putting Manson down so much as he’s concerned about the decisions Manson has made in regards to his abuse problems and what the consequences of those actions are… Not because he’s trying to judge his friend, but because he’s been there.. he’s seen it first hand. He knows how it consumes you and chokes your potential. And because he knows his former friend is capable of so much more.

I hope both bands keep making music. and I do hope that Manson one day wont be afraid of change, and will embrace it. I understand that he IS marilyn manson, that its not just all an act for him, and that he has changes his style and sound alot from album to album.. but with the exception of this album where manson actualy displays a little more vulnerability, he really was starting to sound a little cliche.

Im glad he’s back with Twiggy, and cant wait to see what the future brings.

surreal reality | 6/3/2009, 2:15 am EST

Michelle, you speak Manson?

Michelle | 6/3/2009, 2:42 am EST

Ijust thought of something. If Trent says Manson used to pretended to be more fucked up than he was, then how does he know now that he isn’t pretending to be more fucked up than he is?

ET CETERA! | 6/3/2009, 4:45 am EST

Trent > Manson. What is Manson good for now days anyway? Honestly, where has his “talent” and charisma gone? He’s not a musician, his voice is gone, used to be an entertaining performer and he used to have something to say. Do any of those still apply to the current Marilyn Manson? NO. Make all the excuses you want, it doesn’t change the fact that Manson has become joke. For the love of dog look at the picture of him up there^! The guy can’t even put on eyeliner right or help from smudging his eyebrows. I’m amazed he was able to get the white make-up in between the creases of his chins. He is a dopey clown. Comparing Marilyn Manson to Trent Reznor is like comparing fucking Sinbad to Bill Hicks. I don’t care who sold more of what or whenever, that doesn’t make them any better. Who can still form a complete second and not be mistaken for the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland? The Manson fanboys and girls seem to enjoy throwing around insults that have to do with irrelevant things like the way someone looks or how many albums they’ve sold. So, I thought I’d give it a shot. Easy target, Manson is pathetic and is sad. He used to be great and I hope, I really hope, that someday he is great again.

Thanks for disertation. One week when I have off I might attempt to read the whole thing.

Rent Friendster | 6/3/2009, 7:30 am EST

I guess Trent doesn’t have anything better to do, how sad.

Jennifer | 6/3/2009, 8:22 am EST

Marilyn Manson is a dopey clown and always has been. He tries so hard now to shock people and it is so obvious it’s boring. No one cares anymore!

Hock Ptooey | 6/3/2009, 9:00 am EST

They both suck.

Angry dork rock.

3EB RULES! | 6/3/2009, 10:27 am EST

NIN sucks!!! Trent Reznor just releases the same crappy song 12 times on a disc and slaps a different cover on it every 3 years.

3EB RULES! | 6/3/2009, 10:28 am EST

Reznor is a grumpy old man.

Elaine | 6/3/2009, 11:30 am EST

Reznor is just jealous because his last few albums, YAWN!!!

And what was up with him opening up for Jane’s Addiction?? Not as good as you used to be huh, Trent. Bashing other people doesn’t make you look any better, makes you sound like a weak jealous little crybaby. Grow up!!

Teena Byrd | 6/3/2009, 12:02 pm EST

Reznor’s comments are ironic, considering NIN’s last two albums are no longer even recognizable as music. Manson’s new album is a ‘psychotic’ Masterpiece, and anyone familiar with the reason why he chose the name ‘Marilyn Manson’ will readily see and hear that. Also, there are heavy influences not just from his past relationship(s), but from literary sources as well, such as “The Satanic Verses” by Salman Rushdie, prevalent on “The High End of Low.” Anyone can look at the recent publicity and understand that it ties into the expression of the current artistic statement. The layers are so deep on this new album, that it would be impossible for Manson to have ‘lost it’ and to be ‘decrepit.’ The audience is meant to receive art with open arms, open heart, and open mind. The audience is supposed to sympathize with the main character. Art is meant to provoke, not to be judged. Manson is art.

Marylyn Mansn was amusing in 1995…I agree w/Trent – it’s time to either evolve musically or pack it in – at least NIN still make awesome f’in music after all these years – whoever says their songs sound the same haven’t given any recent NIN cds a chance or even listened to it at all – yeah thats right i’m talkin to you the dude who downloaded The Slip for free and put it on his ipod but hasn’t gotten around to listening to it straight through – you know who you are

flogenlogen | 6/3/2009, 1:14 pm EST

damn, trent has a neck thick enough to stand on his head. is he launching an MMA career? maybe we just need the return of celebrity death match. that would make these bitch and moan sessions much more interesting.

Marilyn Manson is a joke, a parody of himself these days. Reznor seems to be taking an unusual amount of shots at people these days but I guess that’s how he’s choosing to spend his time. I’d much rather go see NIN then Marilyn Manson that’s for sure. Not too mention NIN revolutionized industrial music and made it popular. Manson’s just a NIN wannabe

2 who need 2 go | 6/3/2009, 2:02 pm EST

Manson is dopey

and Reznor keeps releasing crappy ’90’s disco

FuttBucker | 6/3/2009, 2:31 pm EST

Give Trent a break…he just needs something to keep him occupied while he’s not kickin ass on stage.

Tweet Reznor | 6/3/2009, 2:33 pm EST

Trent hasn’t written anything good since The Fragile so if anyone is a dope it’s him for thinking he’s so high and mighty when his best years are way past.
To boot everything he does attempt is a lame imitiation of what he once was.
Manson does need to get off the drugs and booze but his creativity and mind greatly destroys that of Tweet Reznor.
What happened to the mystery of one my great idols? it’s gone because now I know via Twitter every mundane thing Tweet does which includes calling out haters and how he uses too many exclamation points!!!!!!!
Give me a break.

Stubar | 6/3/2009, 2:38 pm EST

Who cares about personality conflicts? Manson’s new album is the best he’s put out in a while, Cornell’s Scream was original, catchy and easy to get in to, and NIN’s Slip was boring, repetative b-sides. Maybe Reznor should focus on improving his own work like he did with Year Zero.

KC | 6/3/2009, 3:09 pm EST

Reznor is right. Manson has become a loser. He used to be one of my heroes, but now he’s a drunken loser. Al least NIN still makes good albums. THEOL was a big dissapointment.

Paul | 6/3/2009, 3:10 pm EST

Trent is responsible for 2 of Manson’s greatest albums. As far as The Slip goes its one of his best. Have you actually listened to it all the way through?

Wes Borland | 6/3/2009, 3:35 pm EST

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Greg | 6/3/2009, 3:44 pm EST

Trent Reznor resembles Mel Gibson (even sporting a tan). Go back to long hair and goth and quit hating on others via the media you coward

Logan G. | 6/3/2009, 4:04 pm EST

TRENT REZNOR = MIDLIFE CRISIS

Sam Jenkins | 6/3/2009, 4:17 pm EST

Reznor needs the PUBLICITY for his failing NIN/JA tour and that is why he he is doing that charity too. He exploits anything and anyone for media attention.

Shut it | 6/3/2009, 5:06 pm EST

Reznor really needs to take a look in the mirror and shut his mouth. Granted he is right about Manson, it’s not like he has grown leaps and bounds since the mid nineties. In fact his music has been in a downward spiral since, well, downward spiral.

Beatrix | 6/3/2009, 5:15 pm EST

Manson looks like Siouxsie Sioux with a botched face lift. He should seriously consider adopting a look that better suits his age. He’s even more pathetic-looking than Robert Smith trying to hold on to his youth with the goth makeup.

YAWN.

Iwilljerkitatthemall | 6/3/2009, 5:51 pm EST

Nine Inch Nail’s Year Zero is the most brilliant thing ever recorded.

Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention… When has Marylin Manson ever NOT been a dopey clown?

Willian Keel | 6/3/2009, 9:02 pm EST

Trent is doing this for the attention. He figures he has nothing to lose by making these comments because he gives away his music for free, but he doesn’t realize that he has a source of income worth protecting—his tour revenue. If he keeps it up, people may be fed up enough to not even want to see him live. He would do himself some good by not speaking in public altogether, except to break news about his own projects.

Anonymous | 6/3/2009, 9:11 pm EST

Wow! this guy is a jerk, first he trashed Radiohead because he loose the Grammy against them, afterwards he trashed Chriss Cornell, then trashed Prince and Weezer.

Time to hang it up Reznor!

Matthew W. | 6/3/2009, 9:43 pm EST

RIP NIN. MM is a genius, you’d have to be pretty dense not to see that. A hundred years from now when we read about American popular music of the 20th century, Manson will be there. Trent Reznor (NIN) – not so much. Luv the Drag Queen on your arm, Trent.

Bruce Lawson | 6/3/2009, 9:47 pm EST

Please have this Trent Reznor car crash soon! Reznor has seriously lost his mind Manson’s worst work is still 100 times better than anything Trent could spit out on his little computers. I wasn’t even aware Trent was still alive, let alone made records. He still seems very angry and out of touch. Isn’t this the guy who just got himself engaged after knowing someone a matter of days?

NIN Sucks | 6/3/2009, 10:49 pm EST

Will this affect Reznor?. YES.
Reznor is a dick? YES.

Bruce Lawson, haven’t you already made that comment before elsewhere? Like on the story about Trent dissing Prince and Rivers Cuomo either here or on Entertainment Weekly’s website?

Sinbad | 6/3/2009, 11:29 pm EST

Oh no, another Reznor internet drama. I wish he would RETIRE soon and go live with his toyboy instead of lashing out at other musicians.

Inventory | 6/3/2009, 11:34 pm EST

Alright, I figured out where you made the comment, Bruce. It was on the Trent Reznor Swipes at Prince, Rivers Cuomo in Fan Interview story (the link to said story is right below the Reznor-Manson story), and you wrote the comment under the name “Amish C.”. Couldn’t you least be creative enough to come up with a different comment, or are you really that lame?

Tim N. | 6/3/2009, 11:36 pm EST

Reznor is doing some major marketing on Twitter for his failing career. This fund raising drive is very self serving first to Reznor and his Ho girlfriend. Leave Manson out of the marketing strategy Reznor. Manson was over you years ago.

Stone Cold Eric | 6/4/2009, 12:21 am EST

i’m mad because Reznor thinks he’s the spokesperson for everything that is cool in the world, and has a feeling of self-entitlement. just look at all the brainwashed tweets. he’s so arrogant now to the point that he thinks he’s better than Manson, has slammed different artists in a high school manner, and is talking stupid shit to his fans. he’s clearly a douchebag now in my eyes, whether it be alcohol or drug induced, or just plain sober arrogance.

whocares | 6/4/2009, 1:57 am EST

did somebody say trent has a “failing career?” hardly. he has devoted fans such as myself and he is the most out spoken critic of a failing music industry while at the same time offering people REAL alternatives on how they can purchase music while making it fun at the same time. kudos to you mr. reznor!

Tommy | 6/4/2009, 3:03 am EST

Trent Reznor is a buffoon. Look at how many people are laughing at him
and his career is on the downward spiral and it’s tragic to watch. He doesn’t offer people alternatives on how they can purchase his music – HE GIVES HIS MUSIC AWAY FOR FREE CAUSE NO ONE WANTS IT.

jSiNhArM | 6/4/2009, 3:52 am EST

I am (was) a huge fan of both NIN and Manson, got into both in the early 90’s and have seen both bands many times. I’m sorry all you Manson ass-kissers, but Manson is so lame these days it’s not even funny. His last two albums are complete garbage. When he sings he sounds like he’s trying to take a shit but has severe constipation. I’ll admit Trent’s last few records haven’t been masterpieces, but they are better that what Manson is putting out. And I just saw NIN on the NINJA tour in Indianapolis on Sat. 5/30 and they were as good as ever in my opinion. Manson is coming here soon, but I wouldn’t go if I was given free tickets. I seriously don’t think I could sit through his show and listen to the turds he shits out these days. His 15 minutes of fame were over an hour ago

Jason K | 6/4/2009, 5:04 am EST

Trent hasnt made a good album since 1999’s the fragile. I honestly think the dudes a bit queer and i used to idolize that guy.

Marilyn Manson on the other-hand while Eat me Drink me sucked, I did enjoy the GAOG and the new album the High end of low. Atleast manson changes and gives me something new for each mood i got.

Trent you are nothing more then a whiney egotistical bastered whos time has come and gone. Should have retired back when you were considered a industrail god.

Mr Manson may not be what he was in the late 1990’s but atleast he’s taking a step in the right direction.

Oh and if Manson ever lays off the cocaine and absinthe and made a sober record im sure he would def silence you forever,

Dont be knocking on Manson or other musicians just because you think your high and mighty. Manson may be considered a joke now-a-days but atleast he isnt making himself out to be something high and mighty.

He’s just an average old joe with makeup. So trent shut your trap. Your time is up and i hope Manson doesnt waste his time to reply to your pathetic whineing.

Manson > Trent

Manson FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucy | 6/4/2009, 5:38 am EST

Rolling Stone was one of the very few who gave Manson’s THEOL album a low score along with KERRANG!, I like Trent, and Manson, but I honesty do not think they both care about what they have to say to each other in the long run’

Trent Reznor has bamboozled, hoodwinked, and flim flammed his fans too long now. Reznor never had any artistic integrity and nor common sense befitting his age. Reznor hasn’t put out any good music since the downward spiral and even that wasn’t great – limited audience. He needs to retire for good.

Admiral | 6/4/2009, 11:36 am EST

Trent is obviously jealous of the media attention which Manson and others receive.

And, is it me or is Trent’s neck threatening to swallow his head these days?

PA | 6/4/2009, 2:18 pm EST

trent looks like a fat meathead with a receding hairline.

Marilyn's Mansion | 6/4/2009, 4:52 pm EST

Manson was on a SERIOUS hot streak that ended with “Holy Wood” Is it any coincidence that that was about the time he started partying like a crazed lunatic? I’m not a huge fan of Trent Reznor, but I think there is some creedence to what he is saying.

Steve | 6/4/2009, 6:58 pm EST

I’ve been a huge fan of both NIN and Marilyn Manson for a long time and to be honest, I totally agree with Trent. Manson has definitely lost something in the last 2 releases and it’s pretty disappointing. On the other hand, The Slip tour was absolutely amazing! Trent still puts everything he’s got into show, where Manson put me to sleep for Eat Me Drink Me.
That being said, Trent should keep shit to himself and concentrate on keeping his fans happy.

Ryan | 6/4/2009, 8:45 pm EST

LOL, thanks for making my day wade. I dont think any band in the world has a more limited audience than Marilyn Manson. The Downward Spiral lifted Nine Inch Nails to a world class act, that if not for its commercial and critical success, never would made it possible for Trent to get his own label.. Had that never happend, there would simply be NO Marilyn Manson.

Trent signed him, released his albums, took him on tour, produced his records, and exposed the entire world to Manson, meanwhile NIN was already a success and a headlining act all on their own with a list of acomplishments that Manson has yet to touch despite Trent’s frequent absence from the music scene.

As far as artistic integrity, Trent IS Nine Inch Nails. Nearly everything ever released by the band was first recorded in a private studio by Trent.. The lyrics, the guitars, the drums, the keyboards– you name it, Trent wrote it. Manson? He wrote the lyrics and sang, but its always been someone else in his band to write the music. Without people like Twiggy there to write the music to songs like The Beautiful People, mr warner would still be stuck writing for band magazines at the age of 40.

Ive always enjoyed both bands, despite what it may sound like above. And I also think Manson is quit talented– but if youre goig to compare talent one on one, its no contest. Trent IS Nine Inch Nails. Marilyn Manson the band has always been Manson on lyrics and one or two (sometimes three) other guys that actualy come up with the music because Manson doesnt have a clue how. So its quit clear to me in that case who has more talent.

In terms of relevance, despite the fact that Radiohead might have beat Trent to the punch in terms of online releases of material, their effort failed and proved to be nothing but a marketing gimmick. Trent fine tuned it, kept with it, and is now the leading force in proving that online distribution without a record company can be quit profitable. I dont remember the last time any band went on the record of saying they cant wait to sit down and talk to him about whats on his mind… Meanwhile Metalica did exactly that. His Iphone app is the talk of the music world for how to better connect to a younger more computer savy generation. Ghosts (which had no marketing campaign at all and was not even mentioned in any interviews at all untill it went live for sell) sold out of all 2500 limited edition $300 copies with 3 days, and went on to become the most downloaded album on amazon despite the fact that Trent released a large chunk of the album directly to the pirate bay (something no one else had dared to do before). Meanwhile Manson acomplished?……. crickets.

paul pfeiffer | 6/4/2009, 11:27 pm EST

Reznor needs to quit being such a jealous troll. Manson surpassed him as an artist years ago, and Reznor has done nothing but hate on him since Mechanical Animals. All his rants just make him look like a loser.

Vanilla Gorilla | 6/5/2009, 3:49 am EST

Damn Manson looks bad in that photo! Moreso than he usually does these days. RR really picked a good one for this article didn’t they? MM is the personification of a “dopey clown” there, or what an aging drag queen would look like dressed up on Halloween. Sad. Maybe Trent isn’t quite as good looking as he once was, but at least he dresses like a man, and one his own damn age! Which is more than I can say for Brian Warner right now.

Vanilla Gorilla | 6/5/2009, 4:23 am EST

Whether you want to admit it or not, Trent has made some damn valid points about all of those people and their music in his Twitter blog, especially Manson. I agree that Trent isn’t currently at the same place artistically as he was years ago, but just listen to his latest musical endeavor when compared with anything by the other artists he mentioned, which I have, and personally I’d take a new NIN album over any of theirs. Manson’s records in particular since “Holy Wood” are an absolute joke these days, just like the man himself has become; not that they were ever all that fantastic to begin with by any means even back in the 90’s, but at least then he had something legitimately deep to say about the state of our society at the time and did so in an interesting and highly creative way, albeit with a lot of help from Trent Reznor.

That of course is the major source of Reznor’s true contempt for Manson. That he, Reznor, was the more creative of the two musically and had the resources at the time to help Manson bring all that rightful vitriol for the world he saw around him to fruition through music. But Manson wasn’t exactly as grateful as he should have been for Reznor’s help and guidance, or so Reznor says, and he’s probably telling the truth.

And once Manson had started to become a household name he dropped Reznor like a sack of dirt. Again I say Reznor, who may not be where he once was on the cultural or musical map, is still faring better than Manson is in every conceivable aspect. And you know Manson is still capable of doing something about his image at least it if he wanted to badly enough.

He’s getting of an age now where he could tone the Marilyn Manson persona down considerably (wear less makeup, dress like a human being, preferably the forty year old man that he is and not some goth teenager), maybe become Brian Warner again. As far as his music goes….meh, I think that’s a lost cause anymore, as he no longer has the voice he once did, the booze and drugs pretty much finished it off, and if he’d live within reason, he could probably live comfortably off his wealth for the rest of his life and doesn’t need to work to survive monetarily at least. Trent also isn’t faring much better vocally even though his health is in far better shape than Manson’s.

Personally I think it would be great if he just became a producer and only a producer, as he was always brilliant in that department, every bit as much as he was singing lead

Advil | 6/5/2009, 6:15 am EST

I guess, just another way for Reznor to stay relevant! And lashing out on nin.com -Good job bro. This “wave goodbye” should be a “kick in the nuts”…..it’s about as painful for the fans to watch this shit unfold.

Darren M. | 6/5/2009, 6:29 am EST

Trent Reznor definitely does not think about how his actions affect other people nor does he consider the consequences. At his age (45), he really doesn’t have an excuse not to be considerate and not to think before he acts.

Jim | 6/5/2009, 12:33 pm EST

Manson’s records have gone downhill since Mechanical Animals (which itself had it’s share of filler). He clearly has no ability to maintain personal or professional relationships. I don’t doubt for a second Reznor’s description of him as “malicious guy”.
If Manson had any sense, he’d make peace with the strongest lineup the band ever had (Twiggy, Daisy, Pogo, Ginger) and get Reznor to produce his next record before he’s too old to have any chance of making something interesting ever again.

Psychosocial | 6/5/2009, 1:47 pm EST

How about. We just ignore trent and not give a fuck about what he says, Yeah, Manson might not be the same he was in the 90s but his certainly returning to form, funny you didn’t slam him when he was actually heading downhill ie. “Eat Me, Drink Me”. An Trent i thought you quit the music industry?? So why haven’t you!! I know if you wanna give everyone such bad reviews of there albums, start your own magazine, “Trent’s Music Hating” We’re everyone is shit except you.

Kel Ammo | 6/5/2009, 2:42 pm EST

What a douchebag… And I never use that term lightly. It seems Reznor has to knock everyone else down to rise above.. Now tell me, who is malicious?

Manson is like every other artist in respect to being hit or miss. If he just played ooey gooey pop, I’m sure all those songs would be hits.

I respect the inventiveness, the darkness and the feelings behind his music. ROCK ON Manson!!!

Now, come to Oklahoma City please!!

Check it out. Which one among us, doesn’t have something in their life that they would prefer that others would not poke a finger at, and hold us in judgement over? Addiction isn’t something thats to be laughed at, or place yourself in a superior position over. Regardless of blame or reason, Manson has had some personal struggles, as of late. And I don’t know what with Reznor. I do recall from Reznors comment, that he was a fan of sorts of Manson, and that he hoped that Manson was able to get his shit together. Commenting on Reznors neck? How elevating was that kind of comment for the person who made it? What do you get out of being so judgemental and mean? Gross. At least both of these men aren’t sitting home on their dicks, playing their Wii, or video games, or Facebooks, or Twitter, or whatever. At least they have TRIED to make some sort of contribution to SOMETHING, with their mind and creativity – no matter how ever limited you may think that is. At least they are out there, making SOMETHING happen. Grow up and stop being so trite and mean. It’s very ugly. THATS whats ugly. Not Mansons make-up, or Trents neck. It’s you, with your so freely given, mean spirited opinions.
Peace Out. By the way – I was rather impressed with Michelle’s translation. Not that MY opnion matters a damn. Because it’s all pretty relative.

As soon as either of them releases a new album that is as creative and compelling as some in their past, I might care what they think of each other.
Other than that, this public bickering slightly amuses me but also realize that it keeps them in the headlines.
Just like rappers and their public beefs just before a album drops.

Yadadadada, Manson is gonna be like the Rolling Stones. He’s gonna keep going through all the drugs, alcohol etc. Some albums will be shit, others will rock..just like the Rolling Stones or fucking Ozzy.

I’m a longtime fan of Marilyn Manson. I don’t like Nine Inch Nails that much anymore.

CAPTAIN SPALDING | 6/11/2009, 1:50 pm EST

Trent Reznor almost got the description of Manson right. The correct version is: “Dopey ASS-Clown”. Anyway, Manson is a huge WUSSY, and I hope he fuckin’ dies!

Jessickah | 6/11/2009, 2:35 pm EST

Yeah Reznor help Manson get started but the only person responsible for Manson’s success is Manson himself and the fans. Trent is just pissed because Marilyn is still on everyones mine while he’s washed up. I love mine inch nails and always will but Trent Reznor needs to get a grip and stop thinking he’s god’s gift.

fateandmusic | 6/12/2009, 2:18 am EST

It sounds like Manson has forgotten what he set out to do in the first place: Make good music and simultaneously voice his philosophies and opinions. He seems to have become a pouty drama queen, and even if Reznor has a little jealousy concerning the publicity Manson has gotten over the span of his career, at least he hasn’t resorted to the shock rock technique Manson has relied on for over two decades. Some think this whole feud between the two is a publicity stunt. I disagree. Manson and Reznor were friends once upon a time; That I know of, Reznor helped produce at least one of Manson’s albums (Smells Like Children). I don’t think either would be the type to start publicly sparring just because they got bored and weren’t satisfied with their latest album coverage. Reznor’s supposed Twitter rants and tirades against other musicians have become pitifully over-dramatized. This may come as a shock to some of you, but musicians are human, too. They have opinions, and, for the most part, they’re the same down-to-earth goofballs that were trying to make it big twenty, thirty, years ago. They just . . . made it big already.

Snarks | 6/12/2009, 8:58 am EST

Reznor on Marilyn Manson:

“He is a malicious guy and will step on anybody’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol now rule his life and he’s become a dopey clown.”

Substitute “ridiculous fiance” for “drugs and alcohol” and WHO’S the dopey clown now? Oh sweet irony.

dom | 6/15/2009, 1:35 pm EST

ok listen all of you idiot marilyn manson has destroyed nin in music talent they suck because all they do it just moan i have listen to every song and hearing that sounds like mental ghost singing it’s a disgrace nin marilyn manson on the other hand can sing and go screw off go to a manson concert and compare nin sucks so bad yo should euthanis your self dumbass

ninlives | 6/18/2009, 8:53 am EST

Trent should just forget the bullshit that is marylin manson and keep on creating important relevant music. Mansons over his prime trents just getting started

amber | 6/18/2009, 12:28 pm EST

ilove manson

ash | 6/26/2009, 8:50 pm EST

Actually Reznor seemed to separate Manson’s talents from his personally. Basically his didn’t bash Manson’s talents, but only his personally. I believe that was fair criticism.

ashe | 6/26/2009, 8:51 pm EST

ashe | 6/26/2009, 9:09 pm EST

Also both Reznor and Manson really hadn’t put out anything good in years. Renzor hasn’t put out anything good since The Fragile and TDS. I did like Ghosts though because I’m a sucker for NIN instrumentals. If Reznor was so smart like he claims to be he should have had a Ghosts tour instead of that bogus NINJA tour. As for Manson, he hadn’t put out of good album in a while now ever since Antichrist Superstar, and that was more like a NIN album than a Manson album. After AC most of Manson’s album started sounding the same, at least Reznor is not guilt of being repetitive, maybe lyrically but not sonically. Both of them should retire. Reznor should break up Nails and focus on movie soundtracks or something. He’s said all he needs to say with Nails he should just move on and take the Clint Mansell route.

Ying Yang | 6/28/2009, 4:58 pm EST

How it makes me laugh when people say Reznor’s career is “over” or on a “downward spiral”.

Just because the guy doesn’t use greedy record companies or isn’t on the cover of shite like RS or other tat, how is he ‘over’?

NIN had one of their most ambitious and successfu tours on their winter 2008 tour and are still selling out venues.

On the other hand, Manson – who was a piece of shit to start with – IS the one who’s become irrelevant etc. And just cos Reznor has the balls to say something, it doesn’t make him childish and all that crap you morons on here are claiming.

NIN’a albums still get high praise today with maybe only With Teeth getting a but if a bashing but even that gained good reviews as well.

I’m going to see NIN again in a few weeks and I can’t wait. Like someone said on here, I wouldn’t go see Manson if it was for free

mark | 6/30/2009, 4:26 am EST

In response to vanilla gorilla, how can you expect manson to just drop the last 20 years of his career and start “dressing like a human being?” It’s his image and always has been. As far as the song-writing goes, he has become Brian Warner. EMDM and THEOL both are on a personal level because he has gone through alot of hardship in the past five years or so.

And Reznor is just truly jealous and bitter. Manson is not ungrateful to Reznor, but Manson’s main goal is spreading his feelings and beliefs, and not to make Reznor feel appreciated. THEOL was not everything i had hoped it would be, but it’s a step in the right direction. Maybe Reznor should get off his twitter page and create some relevant and entertaining music.

Oh and to ashe…did you really say that all of Manson’s work after Antichrist Superstar sounds the same? That is the most ridiculous thing that I’ve ever heard. One of the key components to the band is a new sound and image with every album. How can you even say that Mechanical Animals sounds anything like any other work of Manson’s? That comment was just truly foolish…

cant pick. | 7/1/2009, 1:06 pm EST

okay
im stuck in the middle.
i love old manson, new manson is just okay, but thats what some people say about reznor that his old shit was better and id have to agree.this argument is just over the fucking top i think reznor needs to back off and so does manson, yes manson is not blameless in the fight but neither is trent, so if you ask me its utter bullshit, and what ever happened to just being happy for someones success? i know people change, and clearly trent lost all respect for manson but who hasnt, and why does reznor feel the need to make everything so goddamn public??
i love nin and i love manson and i feel they both have changed rock music in there own way, and dopey clown or not this is a stupidass argument.

eddepp | 7/1/2009, 4:53 pm EST

I like the way Trent is dissing all of the ‘once good’ artists who now seem to no longer have a shred of creativity left.If only Trent would realise that he is one of them.Everything that came after the downward spiral really was on a downward spiral towards the embarressments he is putting out today. He was once such a perfectionist. How can he be satisfied with the rubbish he is releasing? With each album since TDS he has lost more and more fans. Maybe that’s the real reason he doesn’t want to release any more CD’s – he doesn’t want to embarress himself with the poor sales.I used to love NIN and Manson but sorry – they’ve been mining their tired out formulas for way too long now.

crazed22 | 7/1/2009, 5:00 pm EST

I agree!
Hey Manson and Reznor adding little bleeps and quirky electronic noises doesn’t detract from poor song writing.
You can have the weirdest noises and the best production but I’m sorry that doesn’t make a good song.
I know that you think you’re being creative but you’re wrong, interesting song structures are what’s needed.
Do either of you remember how to write a good song?
Have you noticed less and less people care about you with the passing of every day?

ashe | 7/1/2009, 11:24 pm EST

I have to agree here which makes me believe he’s gonna break up Nails. His latest radio interview convinces me even more now. I mean not happy about the free music deal, he’s more matured and not the same person from the TDS Fragile era. Which means his song lyrically sounds more forced and weak. Come on AWITHTEETHA?!? With Teeth was an absolute disappointment. When I first heard THTF and With Teeth I would have taken another 5 year release if this was they’re new sound. Trent’s best years was in the TDS era when he was an emotional train wreck, and his strong lyrics proved that. Trent still has that creative spirit and drive even though his new stuff from NIN has been weaksauce. That why I hope he gets into producing more things like movie soundtracks, video games, etc which I think he’s going for. Rob Zombie moved on and did other things and is very successful.

Disgusted | 7/7/2009, 10:20 am EST

Both are awesome. I’m so disgusted; obviously Trent knows Marilyn is musically “the shit;” & drugs were an issue with them. Dopey clown? Dope show? Ha ! I’m not seeing it. Tour well guys! Still, like I said I love the both of them.
Btw, I’m rotating The new Manson album and nin’s demon seed. Not a problem.

Bon Jovi | 7/12/2009, 12:50 pm EST

“Into the Fire” on the new Manson album.. sounds like OASIS! not a joke- if u dont believe me go check it out! the best tracks are probably “Leave a Scar” and the ballad “Running to the edge of the World”. Trents recent output is on the same level, good but could do better. All the moaning is just to keep them both in the limelight.. NIN played T in the Park this wkend in scotland, any good?

Tams | 7/27/2009, 3:44 pm EST

a true artist is one who creates as a mirror from with in. If you listen to his albums you can tell what he was going through during the time he was writing. That is a true artist. A sell out is someone that keeps pumping out the same shit every time just because they know it sells. I am so tired of hearing people say that he should go back to his previous styles. Style changes as the person does as long as they are true to themselves. He is one of the few artists out there that actually produce his own raw emotions, his fans should be grateful and respectful that he allows us to be apart of that. You don’t have to like it but you should be able to respect it.

Remixt | 7/27/2009, 6:54 pm EST

Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson are both irrelevant. Have a nice day.

Weeaboo. | 7/29/2009, 4:28 am EST

The prime time of Manson: Everything before Eat Me, Drink Me. prime time of NIN: Everything before With Teeth. Their new shit is equally full of suck. All my heroes are getting older and losing their touch. Moving on to more interesting stuff, like Dir en grey and MUCC. Interesting and unique song construction, enigmatic lyrics, doesn’t sound like most of the recycled trash that clogs MTV and Radio playlists.

Sick Messiah | 7/30/2009, 9:04 pm EST

I seen manson last week .. The band live sounded good .. but manson himself was out of tune , and mumbling alot .. After every song he got ice on the back of his neck and a oxygen mask .. he had no energy .. Dopey Old strung out Clown .. his last 2 albums sucked hard … Sad thing is that live manson is even worse now

I seen NIn about 2 months ago .. The band wasnt at its greatest but it was still a 9 out of 10 .. Trent was still energetic , and in tune .. Even with his voice changing he still was good .. but he cant screech in his scream like he used to .. NIn is still the best act on the road ..The last album was thrown together .. and wasnt very good .. but a few songs off of it sound way better live .. nin usually does .. But Nin’s peak thus far is the Fragile .. hands down … and mansons is mechanical Animals .. hands down . Manson fans need to be real .. And let Manson know . He needs to get his head out of his ass ..

Old School | 8/9/2009, 10:23 pm EST

What this is all about…..is the fact that the original fans from the beginning of NIN and MM are getting old…our heroes…Manson and Trent are now old/older. Nothing is the same anymore or will it ever be. They aren’t the “shit” like they used to be and/or as we’d like them to be. The “glory days” are over and it’s hard to accept. Getting old sucks and everybody knows it.

Chi La Fa Laspetti | 8/29/2009, 2:53 pm EST

This makes me sad. I have loved and respected these two Artists for a long time and still do. I wish they could see they need each other to be the best that they are. Please get it together because you both inspire my artistry and allow me to dig deep within myself to be the best interpreter of me and not be afraid of sharing it with the world, no matter what it thinks. And by the way nothing you make ever sucks because it is a part of who you are and if someone loves you they should get it. I do. Thank you both for letting me know you were here.

this is the new shit | 9/21/2009, 10:12 pm EST

i agree with “mjd”:

“Babble babble, bitch bitch, rebel rebel, party party. sex sex sex and don’t forget the violence. blah blah blah got your lovey dovey sad and lonely stick your stupid slogan in everybody sing along.”

come on people we’re arguing over the internet over something that is so small and minor. i think we have all made our points. There are plenty of NIN/Trent fans, and plenty of Marilyn Manson fans. or plenty of haters for both, for that matter! that means they are equally good or bad or whatever. we just all have our own opinions. personally, I’m for Manson, but i’m neutral on NIN and have nothing against Trent. he was slightly rude with what he said, but hey, it’s his opinion if we agree with it or not. it might be Trent’s jealousy, it might be Trent’s tough love. who knows? We’re reading into what he said just a little too far.

Anonymous | 9/26/2009, 2:30 pm EST

aww your’e just jealous Trent by the way, what have you been doing lately?

Joey | 10/12/2009, 3:07 am EST

Its funny how everyone says Trent’s career is washed up, If your on the internet you should see past the fights. and what hes doing to reform the music industry, and trying something new, Trent is a dick, but his points are valid, Yes I’m obviously a nine inch nails fan, but more importantly i was a manson fan, I loved every album, until golden age, which i waited for months, got it, listened to it once, twice, trash. from then on he has been a joke, everythings about drugs, sex, god… the same damn pony hes always rode, but he still made points and made society eat it. then he comes out with golden age, them download and delete me (eat me drink me of your special) and the high end of low… not art, just look at me im still scary! look i said “were from america where we cum on faces!!” Oh my god i have a song called arma goddamn bullshit ass song” basically … PAY ATTENTION TO ME IM MARILYN MANSON!
(To his ulitmate respect still puts on a pretty damn good show live)
to the NIN haters… it to response to what i saw
A. What jealousy? 4 albums in the last 2 years
one completely free
Just because MTV or Fuse doesnt say anything doesnt mean hes not doing music any more, the slip was the shit and you know it,*not a master piece but beautifully put together*
B. Manson goes down in history? yeah as the guy who caused columbine *I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT*
Trent Reznor is already in college courses for his contributions to modern music including recording techniques, a pioneer of sampling and much more (he did not invent industrial music never claimed too, NINs not industrial its always been electronic hard rock)
C. The shit talking that he does, is guilty but it seems to always be blown out of proportion,
D. Trent is a recovering addict, which is why he and manson dont talk anymore, they had a falling out, made up, trent couldnt handle mansons constant intoxication, broke it off, understandable under any circumstances for a recovering addict.
F.everyone is so quick to act like trent is a washout, if you look at what hes done that other artists are following, he appeals to the fans, because he knows without us he wouldnt exist, he still makes music that has substance, and for the ass who said every album sounds the same as the last… youve probably never listened to anything but closer and probably think johnny cash wrote hurt first. every single one has been completely new and interesting with a different concept, if you didnt like it that is fine, thats not why Im going off on this adderall infused rant, you can hate trent reznor and i will probably just have nothing musically to talk about, im sure your an interesting and genuine individual who is full of respect and knowledge *that is pre emptive sarcasm for the nasty comments this might attract*
The bottom line is they are both great artists and interesting characters in there own right for our generation, Mansons just lost, he has over indulged on substances and sacrificed his intellegence and insight, which is not undoable. he doesnt have to get clean, but he should, or at least deeply reflect on himself so that he can present something that means something to people, like he used to. like trent wants him to do, they were dear friends, trent didnt just come out and say “Mansons a dopey clown!!” and banging pots and pans. no he said that “he used to be the smartest guy in the room” so…
I dont know why i wrote this… i guess im just exploiting my right to go off on a long winded and probably very unorganized,
I would like to apologize on behalf of anyone who actually read everything i just said…take a nap.

ski | 10/27/2009, 4:53 pm EST

fuck u manson haters. come to one of his concerts and try saying that shit and i’ll make your face look as ugly as your asshole. manson fan 4 life!!!

Alyssa | 11/15/2009, 3:41 am EST

Im an Australian Make-up artist that has the biggest dream to be Manson’s make-up artist and believe what ‘blue eyes’ was trying to say, theres nothing wrong with Manson and nothing wrong with trent. Manson just needs a few years for a make-over and get back on his feet and know that fans like myself and ’ski’ will always be around for him. Anyone whose read Manson’s autobiographies will understand that theres been tention between the two for years and i will admit that Manson’s music may be less common bt all artist are bound to have ther moments where ther not as good as ppl are expecting but please people have faith tht Manson will return with his best album yet. Manson will get a make-up over the re-invent the singer thts been loved in the past.
