In honor of Jay Leno’s final night as host of The Tonight Show, and to prepare for Conan O’Brien’s debut later today, this weekend’s Rock List was dedicated to “Tonight Songs.” Dozens of evening-inspired song choices were cast, but the Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness stunner “Tonight, Tonight” took first place, probably because it used the theme of the Rock List twice in its title. Billy Corgan and whoever’s in the Pumpkins these days edged out the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Postal Service for the crown. For the full Readers’ Rock List, check the results below:

1. Smashing Pumpkins – “Tonight, Tonight”
2. The Beatles – “A Hard Day’s Night”
3. Spinal Tap – “Tonight I’m Gonna Rock You Tonight”
4. Bob Dylan – I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight”
5. INXS – “Need You Tonight”
6. Genesis – “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight”
7. AC/DC – “You Shook Me All Night Long”
8. Phil Collins – “In the Air Tonight”
9. The Eagles – “Heartache Tonight”
10. Bruce Springsteen – “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)”
11. The Rolling Stones – “Undercover of the Night”
12. Elvis Presley – “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”
13. The Postal Service – “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight”
14. R.E.M – “Nightswimming”
15. Bee Gees – “Night Fever”

“All Night” by Pearl Jam?? Seems kinda fitting, don’t you think?

Seriously?! The BeeGees and no Neil Young. He rarely does TV, yet he has had numerous appearances on Conan. You should be ashamed of yourselves for not including “Tonight’s the Night.”

Agreed. “Tonight’s The Night” should be at the top, and I’m a huge Pumpkins fan.

This makes me happy. I totally agree with No.1

‘Tonight, Tonight’ by the Smashing Pumpkins is tremendous. Finally a vote gone the right way!

I love the Bee Gees.
