AT&T Accused Of Aiding Kris Allen’s “American Idol” Victory

AT&T, one of the biggest sponsors of American Idol, may have played a role in Kris Allen’s victory over Adam Lambert according to a new report in the New York Times. The paper says that the phone company distributed cell phones with free text messaging and taught Allen fans how to “cast blocks of votes” at two parties in the singer’s native Arkansas. AT&T is the only mobile provider that allows users to cast American Idol votes via text message. Update: Fox and Idol’s producers and 19 Entertainment issued a statement today confirming their vote was secure and fair; read the full text below.

According to the report, AT&T reps helped partygoers at a pair of Arkansas events cast “power texts,” a function that permits the sending of 10 or more texts at a single time; the NYT notes such messages obviously “have an exponentially greater effect on voting than do single text messages or calls to the show’s toll-free phone lines.” A spokesperson for AT&T admitted yesterday that the company did participate in some viewing parties, stating, “In Arkansas, we were invited to attend the local watch parties organized by the community. A few local employees brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided texting tutorials to those who were interested.”

NYT also reports it appears that no AT&T employees provided free text messaging or power-text tutorials for any Lambert viewing parties, which has thousands of Lambert supporters streaming onto message boards to cry foul despite the fact that nobody has confirmed such events did not take place. During the competition, many Lambert fans expressed outrage over a post at Kris Allen fansite Kris Allen Nation that featured instructions for power texting and using online phone program Gizmo. Sites supporting Lambert, like Adam-Lambert.org also urged viewers to use Gizmo and “power vote.” (Check out photos from Lambert’s Idol run.)

Idol fan destination MJ’s Big Blog points out that AT&T voter assistance has been reported in the past for contestants Taylor Hicks (who also won) and Elliott Yamin.

Since American Idol never made clear the final gap in votes between Allen and Lambert, it’s hard to truly know whether these Arkansas parties played any role in Allen’s victory. Claims that Arkansas alone cast 38 million of the nearly 100 million votes submitted in the finale were quickly debunked in the days following Allen’s win. Fox has made no comment regarding the allegations against their major sponsor, but a disclaimer at the end of each episode warns that votes cast using “technical enhancements,” like power texting, would be thrown out.

Statement from Fox and Idol team: “Fox and the producers of American Idol are absolutely certain that the results of this competition are fair, accurate and verified. Kris Allen is, without a doubt, the American Idol. We have an independent third-party monitoring procedure in place to ensure the integrity of the voting process. In no way did any individuals unfairly influence the outcome of the competition.”

And…? A phony show about supposed talent that is rigged from the start and enables big corporations to spend their unwarranted profits on drivel and “entertainment” for the masses and finally has the sissy winner that our “new society” praises at the expense of good education and health care which would be a better place for all this wasted money. The tube and its’ commercial offerings will always suck!

I guess controversy is good for the show, but Idol does have some sort of non-affiliated outside check and balance — DialIdol.

Sure, DialIdol is not totally accurate, but over the past five years it has a quite decent track record, picking every winner and predicting the night Daughtry was eliminated. This year was different from any prior DialIdol year, in that, except for the week with eight contestants, there was NEVER a true frontrunner in the voting. In fact, Adam NEVER had a week where he was the solid #1 vote-getter. Week 8’s solid #1 was Danny Gokey. Sure, Adam was always at or near the top of a crowded field, but never got enough of a majority to come in a solid @1 in the voting.

Bottom line, this year was a total aberration from prior years on DialIdol, where most weeks had definitive #1’s and #2’s.

So, as is natural, people can feel their favorite was consipired against, but there are some fairly hard numbers on DialIdol that make any conspiracy unlikely.

Vada | 5/27/2009, 9:40 am EST

This is so lame. Billy Bush of Access Hollywood, said that his source told him the vote was not even close, and Kris won by a huge margin.
Kris also won the phone vote as reported by Dial Idol.
This is fake controversy guaranteed to make Adam’s fanatical fanbase even more fanatical, in my opinion

Mark | 5/27/2009, 9:42 am EST

And there lies the answer

A spokesperson for AT&T admitted yesterday that the company did participate in some viewing parties, stating, “In Arkansas, we were invited to attend the local watch parties organized by the community. A few local employees brought a small number of demo phones with them and provided texting tutorials to those who were interested.”

WHY WERE THE AT & T even invited to attend the parties. Who exactly provided texting tutorials to those who were interested). THE FEW LOCAL EMPLOYEES OF AT&T
This is a huge scandal in the making.

Anetstation | 5/27/2009, 10:11 am EST

There are artists, ranging from Picasso to John Lennon to Bob Dylan who already made the case that corporate interests and art don’t mix, they create an inevitable compromise of creativity and truth. So if one envisions the marketing of the selected Idol as a scenario of : through door “A” or door “K”, then does “A” sell more Fords, or does “K”? How much money is at stake. You really believe the folks harvesting all that BAILOUT money wouldn’t play a very active, if not very low prodile, roll in the outcome of this contest to detemine who will essentially be promoting them? So what do you do about it? Easy- “A” fans simply, doggedly, truly BOYCOTT any product featuring marketing involving American Idol. Money talks.

AKB | 5/27/2009, 10:26 am EST

I was there… Saw the whole thing. I asked for a phone to cast a vote for Adam and was denied.

storm | 5/27/2009, 10:29 am EST

I think voting for american idol was really rigged so that a mediocre singer like kris allen will win over adam lambert who was faultless since the beginning of the competition.

Isnt this a shame? This now explains why our votes couldnt get thru for adam lajmbert. This really sucks!!!

and adam lambert should have been the winner of american idol instead of kris allen. such a stupid action for this phone company.

MUSIC FAN | 5/27/2009, 10:36 am EST

Adam Lambert’s manufactured popularity was forced on us by AIPTB and the media has fallen for the manipulation. He didn’t win because his front runner status was a false status and he wasn’t a favorite with the idol viewers as the AIPTB put out to the media.

However, since AIPTB want so much to make him a star, they’ll continue to promote him as if he were the winner just like they did with Chris Daughtry.

Facts | 5/27/2009, 10:39 am EST

Both fan sites showed how to power text. I repeat – BOTH fan sites showed directions for power voting.

The watch parties consisted of 2-3 thousand fans that gathered each week to support Kris, Conway and the state.

AT&T reps (private/individual AT&T reps) were at the last watch party with about 10 phones to “trial” and they were working the crowd handing out business cards and answering questions.

Why wouldn’t AT&T be there? They are the sponsor. Shouldn’t they be there? They should have been giving out free phones – for publicity. Geez. Chick-Fil-A gave out thousands of sandwich coupons. Are they going to be targeted for their support?

10 phones – even used for power texting did not win the vote for Kris.

Arkansas did stand behind Kris and supported him as their own.

Adam was/is good.

Adam and Kris are basically saying that they both deserved to win – and are good with what happened.

Why the continued whining?

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 10:55 am EST

When Danny Gokey was voted off… his supporters flocked to Kris Allen instead of Lambert, which pushed Kris over the edge.

Why is this so hart to understand? There’s no fucking conspiracy.

Maria | 5/27/2009, 11:02 am EST

Just in case anyone cares about the truth, their are Adam fans on a fan forum that are gloating about the fact that they got the New York times to publish this bunch of rubbish. They have been launching a smear campaign and have been flooding the media with their theories and the media is biting. LOL..

This is the same garbage that comes out every year when the rabid fans do not get the winner that they want.

Karma | 5/27/2009, 11:25 am EST

Who really fucking cares?!

Susan | 5/27/2009, 11:27 am EST

These are the FACTS according to an Arkansas newspaper at the events:
-50 phones were handed out free at one event
-30 phones were handed out free at another event
-Attendance at the event where AT&T was “teaching” people how to send multiple text votes at a time was 2,000+ people
It’s not about who won or who lost. It’s about a corporate sponsor of American Idol showing favortism by giving out nearly 100 free phones and “teaching” people how to cast multiple votes for one contestant and not the other. Would have been wrong if they had done it for Adam. Is wrong that they did it for Kris. It’s a clear conflict of interest and shows the company knowingly affected the outcome. 2,000+ people sending appx. 10 text votes per minute for 4 hours=4 Million+ votes (and they might have even been able to send more than 10 votes per minute, I don’t know). I’m glad this is coming out. Will it change the outcome? NO. Will it cause American Idol to rethink its voting procedure next year? Let’s hope so.

Dunsa | 5/27/2009, 11:30 am EST

Stop bad mouthing Kris AND Adam!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They did nothing wrong…. NOTHING FXXXXXG WRONG but to sing their hearts out and entertain everyone who watched American Idol!!! We love BOTH of them as they are freaking amazing! If you need to blame and accuse anyone for this scandal go to AT&T!!!

This is getting nowhere!!! I am a die hard fan of Adam’s and I’m was not happy with with the votes but Kris is adorable and humble and talented and I know they will both be extremely sad to see this WAR!!!! PLEASE stop trashing either one. If ADAM wins we celebrate and if KRIS keeps the title we also celebrate!!! Is this OK with all of you????????????????????

Lucille | 5/27/2009, 11:32 am EST

The AT&T thing is not a conspiracy theory. It’s a fact. It happened. It’s documented. Dial Idol showed it a virtual tie. Every national poll prior to the final performance showed Adam leading with an average margin of 55-60%. Every poll after the results showed people disagreed with the results by an average of 60%. It’s not right that a corporate sponsor of the show helped one contestant and not the other.

Angie | 5/27/2009, 11:36 am EST

I don’t think the dozen or so phones that were handed out won the show for Kris.

Sal | 5/27/2009, 11:36 am EST

So, Adam didn’t win but apparently Kris didn’t either. Adam was the best singer in the singing contest. Has anyone seen their television performances since the finale? Adam is the one who performs and Kris sort of shows up and smiles and strains to sing that horrible song, No Boundaries. I agree that their is no conspiracy, per se, just another corporate scam!

Lynn | 5/27/2009, 11:36 am EST

Dial Idol showed less than a 1 point difference between Kris and Adam and called it a “virtual tie”. Also, the Geographical Preddictions map on Dial Idol showed Adam “winning” 27 states (including huge states like California, Florida and New York) and Kris only “winning” 20.

SSZor | 5/27/2009, 11:37 am EST

As Bitterberts put their fingers on AT&T and the Text things, they forgot there was not only the rumor of 38M AR votes ,also a rumor about the landslide votes about 20M gap, which is more believable since Ryan didn’t even announce the number, which they did last year when there was more than 10M votes between two David.
Possiblely Fox is hiding the number which shows Adam is not that popular as they thought to not embarrass Adam or Fox itself. As the last pimp, it definitely a good thing for Adam’s career.
But Bitterberts never let it go. With the conceit, they forgot even DialIdol which base on phonecall not text which never got it wrong on the finale Predictions.
OK, what the Bitterberts expect happen? Invalid some votes form several phones?
As if the 38M AR votes is true (which is already cleard), as Bitterberts’ best can do, invalid half of them. It’s still Kris’ win.
Even worser, what about there is more then 20M gap shows out?
Whatever, it’s never a good situation for Adam
What Bitterberts do, is dig grave for Adam, embarrass Adam and Fox.
After all ,it’s surely Adam fans use “power texts” too.

michael | 5/27/2009, 11:41 am EST

It does matter that a corporate sponsor helped out one the contestants- major conflict of interest. Really! Think about it-
its like getting special tips on the stock market, or in betting groups. Its just bad.

Selena | 5/27/2009, 11:42 am EST

Adam Lambert will become a superstar no matter what. Still kinda sucks though- leaves a bad feeling.

Kris & Adam Fan | 5/27/2009, 11:43 am EST

Why is it so hard to accept that Kris won? He’s a very talented guy and I can’t wait until his CD comes out-or Adam’s for that matter. I will buy them both. The whole problem is that AI was pushing Adam to win from the beginning. The show was SO biased the whole time and Adam was told week after week that he is a “rock god”, the one to beat, the frontrunner, etc. The AI bias towards Adam was so blatantly obvious even BEFORE Katy Perry came out in her Adam Lambert cape. Why isn’t anyone raising a stink about that? I personally can’t believe that AI let her go on stage like that-especially with her butt cheeks hanging out of her shorts on what is supposed to be a family oriented show. Just because the judges had Adam picked to win doesn’t mean that America wanted him, too. Maybe America isn’t ready for Adam and all his guyliner and nail polish. Maybe America wasn’t as smitten with Adam as Paula and the other judges were. Maybe it was a whole new Idol ACORN scandal like the one that Obama used to get elected (hey, it worked for him didn’t it?)….or then again, maybe Kris is just better and America voted for him fair and square! ooohh-now there’s a scandal! can you imagine any type of voting contest in America actually being fair!! Get over it people. Kris won!

Family | 5/27/2009, 11:45 am EST

My family of 4 and numerous friends do NOT have AT&T phone service. BUT – we were at EVERY watch party. AND we DIALED our fingers off for Kris. Was that unethical? Rigged? What about the PEOPLE at home using TheIr land lineS dialing over and over? What is the issue here? Multiple dialing / texting? It has been going on since Idol began….and will not end unless the voting procedures are changed.

Come on ... | 5/27/2009, 11:57 am EST

American Idol is just mindless entertainment.

No one gut hurt. We’re not talking Iran/Contra here.

Joe the Plumber | 5/27/2009, 12:28 pm EST

I’m really starting to find this whole thing funny!

Corie | 5/27/2009, 12:29 pm EST

This has nothing to do with Kris or Adam and Kris and everything to do with AT&T. They are AI’s biggest sponsor and they interfered, yes I said interfered in order to boost their own profits. If they had done this for both finalists, it would still be a conflict of interest. But they only did it for Kris. I don’t know or care if it’s been done before. It needs to stop!!!!!!!!!

Karaoke Gokey Votes? | 5/27/2009, 12:33 pm EST

Wouldn’t it follow that most of Karaoke Gokey’s votes would have gone to Kris?

Should have been a landslide.

If you don’t think Adam had “power vote” AT&T users as well, you are delusional. Afterall, I’m sure the Mac crowd in California came out in large numbers with their iPhones and supported Adam in droves.

Why not have the vote counting company release the nitty-gritty details?

Grace | 5/27/2009, 12:38 pm EST

It doesn’t matter only american idol. Adam now is the World Idol and Champion. Hope to see Adam and Queen show soon… They will ROCK the world…

Real Deal | 5/27/2009, 12:57 pm EST

If any of you people actually believe that this is a “contest” in which you have any say, this country is far more deluded in its insipid consumerism than I imagined.

Sal | 5/27/2009, 1:17 pm EST

Corie, you are right! AT&T made their huge profits at the expense of any hope of integrity that Idol could ever have. Whoever thinks that Adam’s fans did the same thing is misinformed. AT&T offered technological support and equipment to the Kris Allen fans not the Adam Lambert fans. Has anyone else noticed on this site and others that Kris supporters often make negative reference to President Obama. What’s up with that? (Okay, I admit that the question is somewhat rhetorical, but I couldn’t resist.) Saw Adam on television this morning. He performed even better than on Idol. Saw Kris yesterday. . .speaking of whining. Whew, he whined and strained himself vocally through No Boundaries. It was really embarassing for American Idol, I would think, anyway.

Who cares | 5/27/2009, 1:23 pm EST

Seriously, why is Rolling Stone even giving American Idol contestants space on the website. Not to mention, if Rolling Stone posts one more article about Adam Lambert I think I may give up my subscription. This is a magazine about real music, not effing manufactured karoke singing bafoons. Plus, Adam Lambert singing style isn’t even relevant in today’s music. Ugh, and don’t even get me started with Queen thinking about asking Adam to with them. Freddy must be turning in his grave right now. Please Queen DO NOT SELL OUT!

ellen | 5/27/2009, 1:31 pm EST

Adam is my idol.I don’t buy the last wendesday result.

Here we go again | 5/27/2009, 1:37 pm EST

First, you people really need to get a life. Are you really this upset over effing American Idol? I mean this is the show that crowned Ruben and Taylor as their winners. Personally, the only two from this season that I have heard from youtube that are relevant today are Allison and Kris. Allison could be credible. The rest are lame.

I did watch Adam on youtube, but once I heard “his version” of Ring of Fire, I decided no more for me. He ruined that song, plus he does not even play an instrument.

Please….Rolling Stone get off of American Idols ass and report on real music.

Sal | 5/27/2009, 1:37 pm EST

Corie, you are right. The whole corporate scam is being exposed by a NYT reporter. There is evidence that AT&T allowed reps to help Kris Allen fans with technology and equipment. I saw Adam on television this morning and he was even better than he was on Idol.
I saw Kris yesterday and speaking of whining. . .he really had to strain his vocal cords to sing that No Boundaries song. It was embarassing. Adam was the best singer and he should have won the singing contest. On a slightly different note, has anyone else noticed the Obama comments by Kris fans? What’s up with that? (Okay, I admit this is a slightly rhetorical question. I couldn’t resist.) Neither Kris nor Adam are winners until this corrupt scam is dealt with by Idol producers and their corporate sponsor, AT&T.

Sal | 5/27/2009, 1:39 pm EST

Oops, sorry. I rewrote my comment. I thought I forgot to submit it. Sorry. It is a little different anyway. Guess I thought I was voting on Idol. . .ha!

anonymous | 5/27/2009, 1:45 pm EST

I think it’s a blessing for Adam to come in second… he’ll have way less ties to Idol in the future and he won’t have to sing that horrible “No Boundaries” song 8 thousand times this year! He’s going to be better off in the end. Still, it angers me to see proof that AT&T sways votes in favor of the contestant(s) that they see as fitting in better with their marketing and image.

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 2:06 pm EST

“Why is it so hard to accept that Kris won?”

The answer: “Because he didn’t win!” seems awful logical. They chose to mess with the singer with the most loyal and persistant fans. Big mistake.

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 2:09 pm EST

I think we need to let this go –and I say this as an Adam Lambert fan. The fanbase is doing nothing for either former contestant by continuing to lob nastiness at each other across the lawn. L

blondiespecialk | 5/27/2009, 2:12 pm EST

Funny, there have been debates over the voting on AI for years, and this is the first time that the Rolling Stone and the New York Times decide to pursue it?

I think their favorite lost or it was a very slow news day!

dany | 5/27/2009, 2:19 pm EST

adam should have won!
thats SO unfair

The Big Joke | 5/27/2009, 2:27 pm EST

Its really pretty simple. Let people vote ONE time for whoever they like. Not all this shit about power texting and calling in a hundred times. ONE vote. It doesnt matter now but make the changes if you want credibility. Kris Allen is a boring card board cut out. Saying he is amazingly talented is about as accurate as saying Hannah Montana deserves a grammy. America is getting pretty consistant at screwing this up: Rueban Sandwhich, Taylor Trash, Kris Ass-Clown. I think Jennifer Hudson who is both critically acclaimed for her singing and acting is a perfect example of how America doesnt know what the hell they are talking about. Allison and Adam had the most TALENT. When you vote for anything other than valent this is what happens.

CAD115 | 5/27/2009, 2:34 pm EST

I am not surprised to hear this news about AT&T. I switched my home phone service from AT&T to my local cable provider after AT&T lied constantly about my billing. They said I have free long distance. Then I asked well what is this 20.00 charge for long distance. Oh, that is the charge to have free long distance. Then I called and asked not to have voice mail. We prefer a machine. I asked if there is any change in our package price…No Maam. Until I get the bill and they forgot to tell me it was 10.00 to make changes…. oh well it’s just a one time charge. big deal. But that is how AT&T operates.

As for the Vote….the religious right and AT&T???? Yeah..now it all makes sense.

I wasn’t surprised at all. But I think Adam who was the best by a looooong shot is better off!

SR | 5/27/2009, 2:38 pm EST

Yeah, thanks AT&T. First you help alter the results of the American Idol competition, then you kill sling media on iphone by limiting it to 3G. What’s next on your agenda? Can hardly wait to find out!! NOT!

Rico | 5/27/2009, 2:47 pm EST

I thought Adam should have won because he was by far the best singer in a singing competition. I kept waiting for one of the judges to point out that Ain’t No Sunshine is one of the easiest songs to sing on the planet. Neither happened, and I’ve adjusted. This, though, bites. Any attempt by representatives of a show’s sponsors to affect the outcome of the vote should be investigated. Fox can try saying nothing on the controversy. (That might not be a great long-term stragey – ask Roland Burris.)

dlt | 5/27/2009, 2:50 pm EST

Yes, AT&T was behind Kris’s victory. Kris looked more like a money worshipping republican

fansd | 5/27/2009, 2:53 pm EST

ADAM FANS, MAKE A LOT OF NOISE ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS INJUSTCE,WE ASK FOR A RECOUNT WITHOUT POWER TEXTING AND COMPUTER DIALING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 2:58 pm EST

All right. I didn’t pay much attention to AI until fairly close to the end. I wanted to make sure I had my facts straight so I looked at both of the biggest fan sites, Adam-Lambert.org and Kris Allen Nation. As it turns out, us Adam fans were worse then the Kris fans! We had more ways to cheat and mass vote posted on Adams site. I love Adam and as much as I would like to think AI was rigged…it wasn’t. Or if AT&T tried to rig it they did a crappy job of it. But hey, just because Adam didn’t win doesn’t mean his career won’t be huge! FAR bigger then Kris Allen.

Huh? | 5/27/2009, 3:01 pm EST

“Adam Lambert, the “American Idol” runner-up, told ABC News Radio on Wednesday that media reports suggesting he may have lost because “Idol” sponsor AT&T provided free text-messaging services, along with lessons on casting blocks of votes, to fans of the winner Kris Allen are much ado about nothing.” –ABC News Entertainment.

I’m an Adam Fan, but can we please put this whole thing to rest. Yes, something needs to be done to change the voting system, but all this bad press is not good for either Kris or Adam.

dontlikekris | 5/27/2009, 3:03 pm EST

Kris Allen you are not the American Idol you are the Arkansas Idol, everybody is so bored down there that looking for ways to cheat to make you win was soooo exciting! You also look a little bored yourself…go home…

Teresa | 5/27/2009, 3:45 pm EST

I love American Idol but this is enough for me to say I have had enough. There has been alot of talk over the years about fraud and tampering with votes but I stuck with them and now this. Everyone wants to think that their vote counts and to let this happen and shroud everyone in more doubt is unexceptable they need to step up and have a recount so the American public can believe that their vote counts. I do believe some people in Conway should be fired for their underhanded ways. It sounds to me like Kris has family or friends that work for a SMALL at&t store and they didn’t think it would get this far.

CrystalSpyder4 | 5/27/2009, 4:03 pm EST

Even though I am an Adam Lambert fan, I would never wish to take away from Chris’s victory. If he legitimately won, congratulations to him. This should not be turned into another Adam vs. Chris battle of the bloggers. However, if AT&T did have a corrupt hand in the voting system, this needs to be addressed.

No matter what, the voting system for AI is seriously flawed. anyone who has the time and means can make hundreds & thousands of calls/texts, which is quite unfair. Perhaps if everybody had to pay a fee for each call (i.e. back in the 80’s, to vote for a winner in the MTV Basement Tapes show, I believe you had to pay 75 cents a call, which generally meant we would only call ONCE.)

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 4:07 pm EST

What’s the big deal that Kris’ home state submitted 38 million votes?

I really don’t get what your complaint is.

Does Adam Lambert not have a home state too?

Last time I checked, more people live in California than Arkansas.

Why didn’t California rally stronger for Adam, like Arkansas did for Kris.

The bottom line is… fair is fair is fair. Kris won. Get over it.

Anne | 5/27/2009, 4:20 pm EST

Wow. May God help some of you. Every report starts with “The New York Times reported…” yet no one else got the scoop? It was jut the NYT? Please. They won’t even reveal the evidence they have or who their sources are. This is the same paper who basically butchered Kris after he won, claiming that if Adam had performed after Kris then we would have forgotten about him and making Adam the winner. You’re going to take the word of a clearly biased paper with next to zero reliably clear sources or proof? Wow.

Teresa | 5/27/2009, 4:26 pm EST

well how about AT&T refund all the money that we had to pay to vote. You are not looking at the big picture here or better yet charge those people who didn’t have to pay and make it legit?

trixy | 5/27/2009, 4:32 pm EST

Ok, so if AT&T did give a few phones and lessons on how to vote 10x the votes at once I don’t think they could’ve made the 1 million votes difference that seperated the two. No it shouldn’t have been done and yes I did think that adam was going to win it. I liked them both but if technology has come to being able to do this don’t you think it will be done from now on? So what is this going to be an issue after every future episode of idol?

tom | 5/27/2009, 4:33 pm EST

Stop complaining.. They both won.
They will both get six figures thrown at them and they will tour together on a package tour. cmon

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 4:40 pm EST

Adam’s better anyway, even without winning American Idol

bodhikai | 5/27/2009, 4:43 pm EST

St3ve:

DialIdol is based on . . . dialing. And busy signals. So if something is interfering with or enhancing the DIALING and busy signals, then it would skew DialIdol. Conceivably if people are power texting it would jam the system, thereby making it seem like more people were casting individual votes for Kris, and making DialIdol predict a Kris win.

IV | 5/27/2009, 5:02 pm EST

THIS IS A BIG DEAL BECAUSE:

1) AI may lose creditability if it does not address this.

2) 2nd rated contestants may now use this Textgate method to boost his/her own rating to into top 10

ADAM HAS BEEN ROBBED! WE WANT JUSTICE. ADAM FANS WRITE TO CEO OF ATT, LARRY KING, MAJOR NEWSPAPERS!

Mmjwriter | 5/27/2009, 5:27 pm EST

Kris and Adam were both good but in different styles of music. They are both winners in my book for having stuck through the competetition. It seems to me that they supported each other in a manner of good sportmanship showing the best of America’s youth for all to see. I’m very proud of both of them. As far as skewed votes…look at the source.
The NYT I would trust as far as I can spit, and that’s not far. Molly M.

Kang | 5/27/2009, 5:45 pm EST

Who gives a shit. Rolling stone needs to change it’s name to American Idol the website. Not a day goes by without another fucking article about the show. Enough already.

Conway Chic | 5/27/2009, 6:01 pm EST

You people are crazy! I can’t believe how much press this is getting. You all just have to have no life at all. It’s a freaking reality show contest. I was at the infamous watch party. It was about 7 phones, but definitely no more than 10 phones. The local store let people text who didn’t have AT&T. The workers volunteered their time to show people how to text and they handed out their business cards. It wasn’t a mandated AT&T corporate thing and it sure wasn’t a beat Adam conspiracy. This was the 5th watch party. Long before AT&T showed up, there were numerous emails and websites telling people to to power text. Them showing up was more of a hey look at our phones, and I’m going to sell you one. People always have to something to BITCH about!

Sal | 5/27/2009, 6:05 pm EST

American Idol and AT&T just said the voting issue was a non-issue for them. What? AT&T admitted that at least 80 prepaid phones were handed out (prepaid, that means free!) to Kris fans at the Arkansas “parties” and that the fans were instructed how to power text. How can this not be an issue for them? Oh, I also read that their excuse was that the employees weren’t handing them out during their work hours. . .wow, what kind of an excuse is this. AT&T just wants to silence the whole thing. Sadly, it will probably work.

Now who would've thought... | 5/27/2009, 6:17 pm EST

Some of you people are IDIOTS! Crying foul when Adam didn’t win? Let me just take a wild guess here and say it like I see it. Adam’s the type of person that had his fan base from the beginning. You either liked him, or you didn’t. His fan base never grew anymore from the beginning. Kris on the other hand kept gaining new votes. Every week that someone went home, those votes went somewhere. They were going to all the other contestants-NOT Adam. When Gokey went home, it made perfect sense for his votes to go to Kris. They are the same conservative Christian all-American type guys. Kris won by a landslide-it wasn’t even close. Kris Allen is THE American Idol-deal with it.
Oh wait, I think I like some of the ideas on here better that a little podunk state called Arkansas somehow masterminded this whole thing with AT&T. Sounds like a gosh-darned rootin’ tootin’ conspiracy to me!
Jeez…the world is REALLY “dumbing down”. You idiots need to do the world a favor and go get sterilized so that you won’t contaminate the gene pool!

dominique22 | 5/27/2009, 6:18 pm EST

People are missing the point. The voting system is screwed up and it was worse this year than ever because now there is unlimited texting. It was not 10 phones, it was half the state of Arkansas texting and getting in 6,000-7,000 votes and more. It’s not fair to people who don’t have AT&T, or to people not stupid enough to sit and vote for 4 hours. The system stinks.

Kris won fair and square under the current system and that needs to be accepted.

But for the future, the voting needs to be investigated and changed.

However it won’t happen, and the best revenge is if we all quit voting and quit watching the show. Let the far right have the show. Just let them have it. F’ it.

dominique22 | 5/27/2009, 6:22 pm EST

It could have been worse. Danny Gokey could have won.

Face it, the state of Arkansas decided this vote with their power-texting. The people of California have more important things to do with their time.

donna | 5/27/2009, 6:24 pm EST

by the way, the NYT is a great newspaper with top-rate reporting. Thank God it’s not FOX news. The far right is waging a war against the NYT and trying to discredit it because it’s one of the few handful of papers left in the country that are not owned by rightwing corporations.

Don’t buy into it. Don’t smear the NYT. They are one of the few honest newspapers left. They aren’t owned by a corporation.

Les Paul | 5/27/2009, 6:28 pm EST

The only problem I have is how biased American Idol was towards Adam the WHOLE time. From the beginning, the show favored Adam. It’s supposed to be a contest where America decides. Not some Adam Lambert show. All of the contestants should have been outraged by this and boycotted American Idol after the way they all were treated compared to the “rock god” (puhlease!). I think America has spoken that they are not ready for a homosexual goth guy that wears makeup and screams alot. I voted for Danny until he left. Then my votes went to Kris.

Conspiracy Theory | 5/27/2009, 6:36 pm EST

Personally, I think this whole thing is a load of crap. I agree with Les Paul that the show was biased towards Adam-look at how that one chick was allowed to wear a cape with Adam’s name on it.

I think this whole “scandal” was made up by the American Idol producers. They wanted Adam to win from the start and he didn’t. Now they are trying to create a scandal so that they can come out in a few days and say that they’ve decided to make Kris and Adam co-idol winners. Mark my word. I bet it’ll happen-we’ll just have to wait and see. Either way, both of these guys are good and have a future in music.

S93 | 5/27/2009, 6:46 pm EST

AT&T and AI owes Adam prize money and all the other perks that goes to the winner. And both guys should be banned from singing No Boundries. Please.

Sal | 5/27/2009, 6:57 pm EST

Donna and Dominique22, I agree! Conway Chic, you better read AT&T’s description of what took place. An AT&T official estimated that 80 prepaid phones were handed out. You must have been at the wrong party. There wasn’t just one “watch party”.

dan | 5/27/2009, 7:05 pm EST

the $$$ definitley shows up on adam lambert….! by why not use them both…i blame idol and the rest of them! allen did not win with legit votes, all you have to do is go to k a nation site…good grief…what a site! one look at it indepth and you can see that is is a highly organized place…guaranteed to do what it takes to get their dark horse to victory!!!! feel sorry for him…
i would not want to have won this way….BOYCOTT IDOL!!!

Jack | 5/27/2009, 7:10 pm EST

Adam was robbed of the crown. Kris DIDN’T win fair and square. Why do think even Kris was in shock that he won?He knew it should have been Adam.

Mari | 5/27/2009, 7:33 pm EST

well, everybody knew that there was something wrong with the results!!
anyway, I like kris, a lot, but Adam is just AMAZING and should have won.

Whatever! | 5/27/2009, 7:47 pm EST

I really have a problem with news journalists that print information w/out checking their sources. You can go to the AT&T website and it shows you how to make multiple text messages or blocks – it’s NO SECRET for crying out loud. They are jealous of the success of AI and of course this is their only dirt they can find. Also, do you realize even w/out Arkansas votes he still would have won – “yeah”…they fail to mention that…the peeps at that party with the AT&T reps were such a small percentage.

Also, Fox, AI, AT&T etc could all be sued, you really think they’d risk that? You’re kididng yourselves, there is NO SCANDAL. Jeez.

Be Real | 5/27/2009, 8:23 pm EST

Grow up. What is the difference of being able to cast 20 votes from one phone or pushing a button once and counting as 10. They were both singers, but adam did way to much yelling. The winner has to be appealing to ALL audiences not just the punk rockers.

Rootbeer | 5/27/2009, 8:30 pm EST

I don’t care if any of you were at one of those community support parties for Kris. What remains is the fact that the employees from AT&T, whether or not they were on their own time – they STILL are representatives of AT&T and still employed by AT&T. I think AT&T should be held responsible for the illegal voting . That being they assisted in votes (no matter how many!) that were “technical assistance” – per the AI disclaimer at the end of their program. If that can be proven, and all “technically assisted votes” are thrown out, then whoever won fair and square should be the American Idol.

Ricochet | 5/27/2009, 8:34 pm EST

To Whatever!:
Yeah, but can you get a free cell phone with free text messaging on their website? If this was no big deal, then how come they didn’t go down Adam Lambert’s hometown and do the same thing? It doesn’t matter anyway, because look at the past AI winners. Apart from Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, can you name one who has had real success? Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry can tell you that not winning was the best thing to happen to them, Adam will get his revenge. AT&T is evil, and they always have been. They’re the worst company to sign up with. They’re the reason why the iPhone sucks and Apple is an idiot for agreeing to make the iPhone usable only through AT&T. Oh yeah and one more thing:
AT&T SPONSORS AMERICAN IDOL, SO OF COURSE THEY’RE NOT GONNA DO A RECOUNT!

storm | 5/27/2009, 8:47 pm EST

AI and AT&T should give to Adam Lambert what is due him, all the prize money, perks that goes with the title, and clean this mess created by text voting scandal which really turned out as a big big SCAM!!!

Why people here call adma lambert’s fans as idiots? who the hell do you think you are? you kris allen fans are clearly so DEFENSIVE!

and You Kris Allen Fans together with AI, and AT&T are BIG TIME CHEATERS. YOU SUCK!!!

YOU ROBBED ADAM LAMBERT OF HIS VICTORY, AREN’T YOU ASHAMED OF THAT?

Rootbeer | 5/27/2009, 8:47 pm EST

Another thought – who the heck is the “third party” that AT&T and FOX is assuring the voting results are legal?? Don’t we, the people that are making these folks rich have the right to know everything about the voting results?? I say to make all voting results public. Any contest worth entering will always publish final voting results….what do you think?

storm | 5/27/2009, 9:01 pm EST

Prior to the declaration of the winner, zabasearch has issued a result of the poll and adam lambert got 56% of the total votes and kris allen only had 44%.

What a baloney, when ryan seacrest hold kris allen’s shoulder, i was already sure he would become the winner. what a fucking mess!

Most polls has clearly showed adam lambert leading and suddenly, a twist of fate!!!

what a SCAM!

One thing you all seem to forget…. AI, Freemantle, AT&T, Ford, Disney, ITunes, and even the individual judges are all in bed together for the purpose of generating PROFITS. This isn’t a fair contest, because it is all make-believe! The producers, writers, judges and peripheral contributors are about as involved incestuously as a greedy “family” could be. Wake up! Adam was good for ratings, but he would never be allowed to represent the
country” and pose in a commercial for Disneyworld, or AT&T, or Ford. He’s too risky. Kris, who is a shill winner was the only safe choice for these greedy corporations. He’s a nice young man, but by no means an American Idol. But face it, American Idol is just another scripted reality/game show. And the producers say who will win. It doesn’t matter what the voting public says. Get it? So get over it and move on.

REASONS TO BELIEVE Adam was the real winner on American Idol:
1.-Kris face when he won and his first words:”Adam deserves this”,he knew his friends at UCA organized this complot using technology to cast million of votes.(38 million to be exact)
2.-The results on every single poll I have come across on the internet agree Adam should have won.
3.-itunes sold more Adam’s songs
HISTORY WILL PROVE THIS FRAUD.ADAM WILL BECOME AN ICON. KRIS WILL SOON BE FORGOTTEN.

pebbles | 5/28/2009, 12:07 am EST

Clearly, AI is not a SINGING contest, it is a VOTING contest. AI’s #1 goal is to always top the total number of votes from the prior week…AI always makes the announcement of how many ‘votes’ were recorded. Really, how does 100s or 1000s of votes from one person translate into a successful career….it’s about advertising revenue first, and secondly, what AI can make of the ‘results’.

P.S. Adam was the most entertaining, multi-talented performer on AI … possibly ever… Kris, nice guy, but not an exceptional entertainer…Kris seems more of a middle of the road, comfortable choice for AI.

Anonymous | 5/28/2009, 12:15 am EST

Adam is the bomb, enough said. To all the detractors out there who can’t “handle” him or don’t “get” him: your Idol proclaimed for the whole country to see and hear that Adam deserved to win and should have won. If you can’t believe or accept it yourself, shut up and listen to the person you voted for who questions why you did so. As for AT&T, Fox and the rest of the phony corporate monsters in on the farce that is AI — that includes you Simon Cowell — they’re laughing all the way to the bank. Enough said.

Get over it, Rollng Stone. Good grief, let go of the Adam Lambert losing Idol thing. Is that what is the most pressing news now? A teenybopper show is that important? How come Rolling Stone didn’t jump on the allegations that some Obama voters admitted on TV that they voted for Obama more than once? Talk about double-standard. How about reporting some real music news, like Transatlantic’s reforming, instead of still whining about Adam Lambert? Rolling Stone’s obsession with Adam’s loss and Green Day’s new cd and tour got really old, really quick.

I hope their ratings GO DOWN after this debacle. We should boycott these MFers, they have shown their true colors. No wonder less-than-stellar contestants have wound up winning American Idol, especially when there were WAY better singers getting kicked off the show. And I also hope AT&T joins the latest ranks of big-wig companies to file for Chapter 7.

KRISS ALLEN, RETURN THE CROWN TO THE WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!! THE TITLE OF THE AMERICAN IDOL IS TO BIG FOR YOU. YOU LOOK LIKE A NICE GUY,NOTHING PERSONAL….

tommycanyouhearme | 5/28/2009, 12:41 am EST

This is all rat-shit crazy conspiracy talk…every year from the runners up fans and some of the math on here would get you an F in grade school. That a party or two of 2000 with 10 or hell I’ll go high end 50 phones in Arkansas with a pop. of 3 million could out power the power voting and power texting of the 36 million people in Caliornia not to mention the 300 million in the rest of the USA. I guess those folks in Arkansas are just smarter and better with technology than the rest of us and it also appears thier AT&T sales reps are more business savy.

OK RS…You are seriously saying Adam is the first true rock guy on AI…Rockier than Daughtry or Cook..realy …and I thought I rock god kinda wanted to be a rock god …which if you read your own interviews is not Adams goal. He said he wants to put on an entertaining campy cabaret type show. Who knew that RS is now as credible as Paula Abdul who first misjudged Adams Broadway style rock and claimed him a Rock God.

And for all you Glamberts calm down and stop saying he is the second coming of …Elvis ..Bowie or who ever ..you don’t hear the Kris fans saying he is the next Dylan or Lennon-McCartney. They haven’t put out any music of thier own. Why don’t you wait till then before declaring anything. You can’t even admit that everything he does could be less than perfect. Check out is most popular/best AI show song MAD WORLD..those last few notes are about as off as any this season on the show. Even one of the best AI sites MASTERCLASSLADY. COM was blind/deaf to it when she declared his performance perfect …nothing to critique. Just don’t get the blind adoration.

Blake | 5/28/2009, 12:45 am EST

38 million votes came from arkansas, who the hell can afford that many text in that state? PLUS, not only did AT&T offer free texting to these kris fans, they BUNDLED the texts. meaning, For ever text message they sent in, american idol received 10!!!!!!

idontlikekris | 5/28/2009, 12:51 am EST

Adam’s talent is so evident… people have been very creative using the most eloquent adjectives to describe him .Did anyone see Kelly Ripa melting on the show today when he sang?

SDFAN | 5/28/2009, 1:11 am EST

BLAKE, ANSWERING YOUR COMMENT:not all the votes were casted by texting, also calling with no cost from land lines, from computers with enhanced softwares, with cel phones with west coast area codes that let them vote after hours(those cost) but the fundraisers held by the fans in Arkansas took care of things. Cheaters cost Adam his title.

tommycanyouhearme | 5/28/2009, 1:24 am EST

BTW not every internet poll I saw had Adam out in front …at least not once it got down to the top 5 or so. And gosh maybe it was a conspiracy by glamberts mulitple voting in the online polls …I have no facts to back that up …but will declare as the truth anyway. Fact ..most folks I talked to were not fans of Adam but those that where ..well they were fanatical.

DialIdol.com while not perfect has been the most accurate forcaster of AI voting every year. This year no contestant had a virtual lock on the top spot …Danny and Adam spent the most time at the top but Adams fanbase was not as strong as the AI pimping would have you believe and he more than a few times ranked 3rd and even lower. While Kris …maybe because his fans are younger and use cell phones and yes texting and Dialidol only works on land lines…always out performed his dial Idol score by at least 2 or more points at the very least…from the very start before even thost tech-savy savants in Arkansas could organize. Now Adams hate’em or Love’em style pretty much assured that it would be harder for him to pic up votes as the season wore on from fallen contestants fans and when Danny fell that provided a tipping point as those fans …probably ..jumped on the Kris wagon. So when dialidol showed Kris with a 1% point lead for the finals that meant… by his past scoring…. that he was going to out perform that prediction by at least a few points if not many more. By late wed afternoon I was tell the Adam supporters (2) to brace themselves and the Kris supporters to start celibrating the biggest upset in AI history.

Just a thought | 5/28/2009, 11:46 am EST

If Adam’s fan base was as HUGE as some of his fanatical fans on here would want you to believe, then I have to ask, where were they when they had the homecoming show? There were maybe 3000 people on his whole video clip. Danny and Kris BOTH had HUGE gatherings of people everywhere they went. Kris had the biggest crowds by far-starting when he got off the airplane. And don’t give me some lame a$$ excuse saying that Arkansans have nothing else to do.
Sorry all the Adam fans, face it, your boy wasn’t nearly as popular as you thought.

Sal | 5/28/2009, 2:02 pm EST

Kris Allen fans broke the American Idol rules with their super-power voting. Some of Adam’s fans may have broken the rules, too, BUT they didn’t have the help of AT&T. Some of you ask how a few parties in Arkansas could influence the vote for Kris. Some of the “parties” were held in stadiums with AT&T employees providing technical assistance and equipment. AT&T, as a corporate sponsor, should not have been involved at all, let alone in a scheme that broke the Idol rules.
Adam was the best singer in the singing contest.

Merle | 5/28/2009, 3:13 pm EST

It looks like Kris and Adam have moved on and are excited about the tour. Good for them!

All this talk about AT&T is upsetting because nobody likes a rigged game. What no one has addressed is why are only AT&T text messages counted? Everybody in America who votes does not have an AT&T cell phone. This is unfair.
People who actually vote on American Idol will probably stop watching the show because they know their vote doesn’t count. Why bother. One contestant, one vote.

jordana | 5/28/2009, 3:18 pm EST

This commentary is for “just a thought”posted 5/28. I live in San Diego and shame on whoever organized this homecoming. One day before nobody knew when Adam was arriving, what was his schedual, they kept changng plans the very same day.Sea world canceled at the last minute, the only thing more or less organized was his highschool event where they gathered 5000 people but people didn’t know it was a public event so few people outside the schools they brought was there. The other homecomings were more organized, who to blame?don’t know. But Conway seems to have a very well organized group of fans reponsable for casting 38 mill votes (info given by Fox 16,then they retracted)check their website. How they did it? power texting, computer dialing, using phones with west coast area codes. One fan was interviewed and proudly said he voted 6830 times.YES CONGRATULATIONS THiS CHEATERS ARE VERY well ORGANIZED!!! or do you really think Chris won because of his talent? Check itunes and tell me if Adam has supporters…

At this point this arguement does little good for Adam, Kris and the rest of the contestants. Adam is happy, Kris is happy and the other contestants need to be able to go out this summer and give some great shows.
Next year, however, may be a challenge for the new contestants. Clarification on voting procedure needs to be done for the sake of the new group. Without AI neither Adam or Kris would be where they are today. Personally, Adam rocked my world and he was the star but I am recovering and waiting for the NEXT in Adam’s life.

All I can do is comment on my personal experience (and 46 people I know of personally) and that is that I/we redialed like crazy people for Adam and received 3 hours of busy signals and, on average, 10 votes that connected for Adam. To me that does not seem like a fair voting system. I knew about Gizmo, but on Adam’s site that I was on they counseled against it because it is technically cheating, so I opted not to do that. American Idol is responsible for not having a more fair/controlled way to vote and I feel cheated of voting for Adam.

This is ridiculous. The same voting techniques have been used for previous Idol seasons. Why is it only being brought up now? The press wanted Adam Lambert to win so badly? We get it. The point is: Kris Allen won, fair and square. Adam Lambert fans had the same information Kris Allen fans had. The difference was either Allen’s fans were more dedicated and stayed up for the entire duration of voting to get their AI contestant to the very end, or there were just more of them, hence the more votes. How exactly does one watch party in Arkansas affect 100 million votes? It doesn’t. So people need to take Adam Lambert’s advice and relax. There’s no conspiracy going on here. He lost. Get over it.

No, no, not the same. Adam Lambert’s fans didn’t have the assistance of AT&T employees. That is a huge no-no. AT&T is a corporate sponsor of American Idol. This was a contest that resulted in a million dollar contract. . .prize money. It is documented that AT&T employees gave technical assistance and equipment to Kris Allen fans. It is also reported that the so-called parties were held in huge venues – a stadium! This is a little different than voting multiple times. Kris Allen fans got the sponsor’s help in CHEATING!
The FCC needs to investigate. I sure hope none of Kris’ relatives were employed with AT&T.

Yoyo | 5/29/2009, 11:29 am EST

ADAM HAD THE HELP OF SIMON COWELL. That is worse than AT&T.

Adam Cowell told the TV viewing audience to vote for Adam…THAT IS AGAINST THE RULES.

Yoyo | 5/29/2009, 11:31 am EST

Simon Cowell is not supposed to tell viewers of Idol to VOTE FOR ADAM.

That is against the rules…HOW ABOUT THAT FOR CHEATING.

That is against the rules of the show and if anything that proves that Adam was unfairly PIMPED by the show.

Yoyo | 5/29/2009, 11:34 am EST

Plus Adam Lambert fans were also POWER TEXTING…why isn’t the media following those leads?

Plus Simon Cowell, who is an employee of 19E and American Idol told everyone to vote for Adam Lambert.

Simon Cowell is only supposed to critque the singers…NOT TELL VIEWERS TO VOTE FOR THEM.

THAT IS AGAINST THE RULES OF THE FCC.

Yoyo | 5/29/2009, 11:36 am EST

Simon Cowell looked right into the camera on the show after Adam sang and told viewers to vote for Adam.

Simon Cowell is not allowed to do that as an employee of American Idol. He is only supposed to judge the contestants singing.

MightyJ | 5/29/2009, 11:44 am EST

The week before the finals Simon Cowell, an employee of American Idol and Fremantle 19E looked right into the camera and told viewers to vote for Adam Lambert.

For those who are complaining about AT&T and the FCC. It is against FCC rules for an employee to push one contestant, their favorite, over another. It is against the rules. So in reality Adam was cheating because Simon was telling viewers to vote for him.

The judges are supposed to critique the contestants, not endorse them. So apparently Adam/Simon were breaking the FCC rules before AT&T did.

Jen | 5/29/2009, 12:06 pm EST

Simon was responding to another judge’s comment that Adam would be in the finals. Simon said that you cannot “assume” that he would and that the fans would have to vote for him if he was to make it.

Maggie May | 5/29/2009, 1:51 pm EST

Regardless if Simon told viewers to vote for Adam or not isn’t the issue. Simon also claimed that Adam would win as he did David Cook. Both comments were made before the finals. If for any reason AT&T had any involvement in boosting the votes for Kris and not Adam then those text messages should be null and void. It’s not fair. It’s a shame that this kind of thing took place. Adam was the standout from the beginning. He will be the one to sell records…not Kris. Now they are trying to draw the attention away from the voting to Adam sexuality. THUMBS DOWN TO AMERICAN IDOL! I’m done watching.

Abbie | 5/29/2009, 2:18 pm EST

This just proves once again that American Idol is tainted. As are all reality shows. The reality is the show sucks!!!!!!!! Allison and Adam were the only true talent on the show…..

Yoyo | 5/29/2009, 2:38 pm EST

No Simon looked right into the camera and told viewers to vote for Adam Lambert.

That was NOT a critique but an endorsement.

THAT IS ILLEGAL.

jordana | 5/29/2009, 3:04 pm EST

YOYO,Simon is a judge, that is what they do JUDGE,he thought Adam was the best contestant, he is not forcing anybody to vote. They could have been power textng somewhere else but 38million votes came from Arkansas, population 2.8 mill.Don’t you thnk there was a irregularity ????

jordana | 5/29/2009, 3:18 pm EST

Judges are supposed to critique not tell people who to vote for. That is against the FCC rules.

Where is your proof that Arkansas voted 38 millions?

Once you can produce the proof then you can’t say that is true.

But all people have to do is watch the show again and see Simon telling people to vote for Adam.

Plus Adam was not supposed to appear on magazine covers before the show was over.

To jordana | 5/29/2009, 3:19 pm EST

Where is the proof of people voting 38 million times from Arkansas.

PRODUCE IT. If you can’t then it is NOTHING.

Sal | 5/29/2009, 3:50 pm EST

YOYO, MIGHTYJ, and JORDANA, You are all grasping at straws here. The real problem was the equipment and the technical assistance that AT&T employees provided to Kris Allen fans in Arkansas. Simon saying vote is irrelevant! He didn’t technically assist the voters in voting for Adam. The cheating that the FCC will be interested in will be the AT&T coporate involvement in the Arkansas voting. They are the corporate sponsor of American Idol. A million dollar contract was given to a contestant with AT&T interference. The figure of 38 million came from Fox and then they backed away from it. It is likely, given the AT&T technology involved ,that at least half of the Arkansas votes had AT&T involvement. This is a huge, million dollar scam!

Tumi | 5/29/2009, 6:45 pm EST

Cheating small or big is still cheating; it’s shameful, immoral and illegal. Whether the exponential text votes were the cause for Kris’ win or the combination of AT&T and Danny’s fans’ participation, it only reminded us that big corporations run our lives. It was none of Kris’ fault but can he erase the stigma?

Someone | 5/29/2009, 6:48 pm EST

You all are big babies. First off, Adam didn’t need to come on the show, he has talent to get a deal. Second, the judges aren’t to support a person. Also, if you wanted Adam to win, you sould have voted more or asked others to vote for him. This is getting old, especialy cry babies like you guys!

Patti | 5/29/2009, 6:54 pm EST

When America stops tunning into American Idol because of this last texting scandal they will realize we all know the show is a fake. No way should Kris have won over Adam who was consistenly the best singer on the show. No one came close to him in the all the episodes of idol. Shame on you American Idol for trying to fool us all into believing this was America’s vote. No Way!!!! We are much smarter than that. Adam you ROCK!!!!!

Music became big biz like football became big biz. Hence the–where are the cheerleaders?–end of em.

But there’s still good music around. You just have to find it

JackieLambert | 5/30/2009, 1:00 pm EST

As far as I am concerned American Idol disappointed me this year and I probably won’t be watching next year. Adam deserved to win because he performed well the whole process. If cheating was involved I demand a redo of the voting!

pt | 5/30/2009, 3:01 pm EST

You know I really don’t care how Kris all of a sudden got past to the top…He was not the best singer at all this year..fact is I didn’t notice him till at the last…..
i am really disturbed at Kara (the judge) for being on the view and opening her mouth….the other judges do not try to get in the middle of a controversy…hope she leaves….
Really I hope the best for both guys…Love Adam but Kris will probably go a ways. but i think Adam will be an international star….Hope At%t are proud of themselves and I don’t care to watch Idol anymore, it is rigged….

janet | 5/30/2009, 3:06 pm EST

Adam can be on any cover he wants to be, cause he is not tied up like Kris is…that is why it is good not to get the title, Adam can do as he wants….soon as tour is over he can do his thing…

Moonstruk | 5/30/2009, 3:18 pm EST

One can only know if those extra phones voting for Kris changed the results if one knows the number of votes by which Kris won.

And for those that say it is impossible, DOESN”T IT ONLYTAKE 1 Vote TO DECLARE VICTORY?

SO SURELY ‘80′ WOULD DO IT Too….

Adam not being popular is REAALY an impossibility!

BIG fan from South Africa, as is All my family and all my friends…
Everyone I spoke to was dumbfounded with the results…

BELIEVE ME…ADAM IS POPULAR!!!!!

Jennifer | 5/30/2009, 4:24 pm EST

This is a bunch of crap, Chris should lose the so called title. This whole thing was riged from the begining. I will not watch the show again. Kris Allen was not as good as the others, I had not even remembered him throughout the show. Adam should have one hands down. REDO without ATT involved.

Hoop | 5/30/2009, 4:30 pm EST

the show should be taken off the air, it is a scam the peoples votes really do not matter. I hope Kris feels good because he only won by cheating. If I was the family of Adam I would take it to court. American Idol lost alot of viewers over this. Adam should get the title he was the best out of very one on there.

steve | 5/30/2009, 4:32 pm EST

What a joke that Kris Allen won, I use to enjoy watching the show but not anymore, the cheating has gone way to far. Kris Allen really su– on the show. the way he sings you can not look at him, he does somethign funny with his mouth. The show is a scam, give the title to Adam if you really want the viewers to ever watch it again.

Consumer please complain! | 5/31/2009, 12:03 am EST

Basically, people have to stop making it an “Adam” issue, and start making it a consumer rip off issue. The vote was essentially rigged … I mean that’s obvious. AT&T admitted to improprieties in the voting process in Arkansas. This means that there was fraudulent behavior on their part and possibly AI, and consumers may be entitled to get their money back for being falsely enticed into voting (in order for AI and AT&T to suck money out of them of course) with the promise that their votes would count during the AI season and especially the finale. Some people spend a lot of money voting, and for what? IT’S RIGGED FOLKS.

Fraud By Wire is a federal crime, therefore applicable in every state simply by filing a complaint. You can file a complaint on line with the FCC or by submitting a complaint in writing by US Mail to:
Federal Communications Commission
Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau
Consumer Inquiries and Complaints Division 445 12th Street, SW
Washington, DC 20554.
http://www.fcc.gov.cqb

Compla in, as a matter of principle. Why should AI and AT&T not be held accountable?

Steve | 5/31/2009, 12:56 am EST

Arkansas Idol will be watched only in Arkansas!
Shame to you AT&T!
I will cancel my AT&T service.
Steve

dixie13 | 5/31/2009, 1:57 pm EST

Kris is cute. Adam is sexy. They both are winners. It is so cool to see them as friends, and admitting both are talented people, and both are going to be successful.

SDFAN | 6/1/2009, 4:24 am EST

Of course there are more residents in Calif but fans in Arkansas cheated…

dlt | 6/1/2009, 7:12 am EST

We’re all “talented people”. It’s just that some of us are prostitutes, one hundred percent egomaniacal

Michelle | 6/5/2009, 8:58 am EST

Adam deserved to win. From the beginning the judges and I have watched him remain the same steadfast person. He never changed himself, he stayed the same. He already has the talent.
Kris was in the bottom three more times that I can count, and he had many ‘bad’ weeks as the judges called them.
People need to grow up and not freak out about a person’s sexuality. It doesn’t matter if Adam is gay, he is the best singer on American Idol. He deserved the title.

Kerry Kolsch | 6/7/2009, 10:03 am EST

It does not matter that Kris won by millions of votes because millions of votes were generated by the AT&T help. An AT&T spokesperson is the father of one of Kris’s pre Idol band members. Adam took no part in fan sites that taught methods to generate votes, Kris did. His face book account emailed three Arkansas universities with cheating instructions. There were also the go phones with California numbers sold by AT&T at these events. AT&T was aware of the time zone cheating and encouraged it. If anyone does not think that Adam was more popular juts Google Trend Adam, Danny and Kris and you will see that Adam always had more interest.

contactme | 6/8/2009, 5:06 pm EST

IF ADAM WOULD HAVE WON THE NEWS WOULD HAVE BEEN, “GAYS RIGGED VOTE FOR ADAM LAMBERT,” KRIS WON. GET OVER IT AND ROLLING STONE STOP PLAYING INTO THE HYPE….

CELEBRATE HIS WIN AND GIVE THE NICE DUDE A CHANCE.

Frustrated | 6/10/2009, 1:07 am EST

Adam definately has a lot of talent but Kris Allen does also. I thing we should remember this is “American Idol” and the choice that was made by America was Kris. He stands for what most Americans apparently believe are good values and the fact he will be an excellent role model for future generations. What more could anyone want? Great talent and real values!

Anonymous | 6/10/2009, 10:20 am EST

Let’s be serious here,

Adam was/is great to sing,
But so is Kris.

But Adam’s eyeliner and nail-polish?
I think it may have been too much for American Idol.
Kris is a great role model.

Geoff from canada. | 6/11/2009, 1:12 pm EST

i cant believe people who get so caught up in all the bullsh*t. this show is doing exactly what mainstream commercialised over-produced music has done to popular music today. how many tweeny pop stars actually write their own music? or have a say in what gets released on their own albums. any talentless pretty face can be an over-produced pop star. if you actually like music look to where your ‘favorite’ artists have found their inspiration before big business sucked it out of them. classic rock has influenced every genre and created genres within itself.

fairandjust | 6/12/2009, 10:06 pm EST

be fair…just because his gay , doesnt mean u shouldnt vote for him…kris is great too…but kris loses in his voice range…and simon didn’t tell ppl to vote for adam… but they both are as good…but kris may become another taylor hicks if his not carefull….and adam should also watch it

ginger | 6/18/2009, 1:33 pm EST

This is a something that will die down in time, but I loved Adam and think that possibly Arkansas saw a great talent and decided to get colleges and atand t involved where Adam didn’t…I think Kris knew that he wasn’t the real american Idol…didn’t do him any favors….by cheating to get the votes in…I have heard no one in my town talk about Kris it is always Adam….and he is swell, now one of the sexiest men in People magazine…I am ready to go to Kansas City and see Adam and Allison’s duet…There is 9 of us girls going, or I should say ladies…wish it was an all Adam concert……I hear he is singing David Bowie Fame and that should be great…..

Trina | 6/18/2009, 1:44 pm EST

Thank God for American Idol or we would of never known an Adam Lambert existed….he has come so far in just a short time…best talent I have seen since Elvis…
As for Kris I have nothing to say only it should of been Allison next to Adam…Can you imagine Adam and Allison singing with Queen…They would of rocked…..
