“American Idol” ’s Adam Lambert on Sexing Up Johnny Cash and Getting on His Soapbox

Adam Lambert didn’t win American Idol, but he’s the first real rock star the show has produced in its eight-year run (apologies to Chris Daughtry and David Cook). Brian Hiatt talked with the man Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield dubbed a glam-rock sex god about his controversial “Ring of Fire” cover, conversations with Brian May and the culture war surrounding the finale. (Check out photos from Lambert’s Idol run.)

What is your goal? What do you want for your career?
I want to make records. I want to be an entertainer, you know. I want to help people escape and just dance and have a great time and party and love each other, and I want to be able to raise awareness on a couple of things. You know, soapbox about it. Maybe pushing peoples buttons for a little bit. Always with a little wink at the audience with a little camp. With a little seriousness in it, but I don’t want to take myself too seriously. I want to upset people, I want to make people think, I want to keep people interested.

A lot of people are trying to figure out what happened when you lost. Do you have a theory?
Danny had a very strong following and when Danny was out of the competition I had a feeling that his fans were probably quicker to default to Kris than to me, you know just because of the kind of artist that he is. So I think that also might have had something to do with it.

Like a red state blue state thing?
I can see why people would see it as a red state blue state kind of thing. Conservative versus liberal kind of thing but I just want to believe, I may just be being an idealist, but I want to believe that its more about the music which is not always the case. I think that it shouldn’t matter what your religious beliefs are for instance, or your gender or anything else should come into play. But it’s a reality show and that’s what it does. I wish it didn’t but it kind of does.

You sang with Queen last week. (Don’t miss photos from the Idol finale.)
I know! I couldn’t believe it. Like Brian May was brushing my shoulder, it was so surreal and not only was it a personal victory for me but also with Kris up there, I mean Kris and I became really good friends on this. We were roommates and looking at him across the way singing the lyric “We are the Champions” I felt very connected to him at that moment and it was the perfect symbolic ending to this whole journey and it really felt like it put the period at the end of the sentence. And for me at that point, whoever won at that point it didn’t matter after that, that was the winning moment for me I don’t know, you know what I mean, I didn’t feel like I was competing with him at all.

Brian May seemed pretty impressed with you. Did you get a chance to talk to him?
Yeah. He was just such a gentleman. He has such a warm, positive philosophy on life. I liked his outlook a lot. He said, “I just flew on a plane overnight and I woke up this morning and I looked out my window and I just realized how lucky I was to be alive.” I don’t know, it was just so inspiring to hear that come from his mouth. That’s kind of something that I’ve been focusing on personally, the past year of my life, is just positive thought. And there’s a reason Idol came along for me this year and I decided to audition and it worked out cause it came at a time in my life when I really started to try to change my perception you know what I mean.

Rock is a much bigger part of Idol now, why do you think that is?
I think maybe early on it had to do with the judge’s opinion. I think the judges tended to favor the R&B singers ’cause they felt like that was showing more vocal prowess. I feel like early on they dismissed some of the rock singers. And even Kelly Clarkson who was first year’s winner sang her soul and R&B stuff and now she’s a pop/rock singer. I think they felt that the Whitney Houston route was more of a competitive type of vocal maybe.

The finale was mostly a rock night, with Kiss and Queen.
That was so much fun, I was just so excited to be able to play dress up. That’s a really big part of me as a performer, it always has been and I hadn’t really gotten to show myself doing my underground club kid thing on Idol cause the songs that I was singing never really felt appropriate to do that. But when I found out that Kiss was on the show I was like, ‘OK, this is my chance to kind of do that other thing that I do’ so I don’t know I had a blast putting on that costume and rocking out with them.

I think probably your most out-there performance was “Ring Of Fire.” What are your thoughts on that one now?
I loved it. I was a big fan of Middle Eastern elements of music and experimental electronic and tribal sounds. I heard the version by a woman named Dilana, who was on Rock Star: Supernova, I found it hypnotic and really cool. It was country week and I don’t really like country music, I’m going to be honest. The first song that came to mind was a country song was the Johnny Cash song “Ring of Fire.” It’s a cool song. It’s sexy. So I was like I’ll do something sexy. So I figured why not.

Is any part of you disappointed with America?
I have to say it was a little bit of social pressure projected on me by just trying to be the quote un quote “different one” — all the supposed insights into my sexuality and my alternativeness and all my what have you, I think there were some people who were kind of like, “Well, he’s changing your Idol‘ and all this hype and pressure to make a change for America. It kind of got overhyped a little bit.

Rolling Stone, seriously, eff you.

Shame on you calling him (or anyone from Idol) ‘rock stars’. Rock stars write their own songs. These are glorified karaoke singers with stylists.

This is like when one of the judges said he ‘outdid Led Zeppelin’. For the love of god…

Adam sings cover songs well and knows how to dress and move. Period. No more, no less. You should know better.

Denise | 5/26/2009, 7:24 pm EST

I’m one of Adam’s most devoted fans – Yay, Adam! So thrilled at your positive attitude and joy in performing the finale. Glad to see you still can acknowledge some of the unpleasant parts, and am so proud of you!

May your inner glitter butterfly of glam rock be free!

Thanks for some fresh material. We’ve been seeing the same ol’ stuff floating around there for so long, it’s nice to see some new insights from Adam. Nice questions. Thanks for not asking about the gay issue. Been there, done that. I hope he gets some great song writers and producers that will focus on his amazing ability as a singer to do so many genres. Can’t wait for his album, solo tour and music videos. Finally, someone who will truly entertain us!

Deanna Jarvis | 5/26/2009, 7:46 pm EST

Can’t believe how fortunate I am to have been able to live to see Adam Lambert. To be so talented yet so centered, intelligent, and an all around nice guy – I wish him success with anything he wants to do. I will stand in line to buy his music and watch him perform. Thanks to his mom and dad for raising him to be the fine young gentleman he is.

CRUZR | 5/26/2009, 7:48 pm EST

ADAM SHOULD HAVE WON, HE WAS HEADS AND TAILS ABOVE ALL THE OTHERS IN TALENT! i TRULY HOPE HE GETS A RECORD CONTRACT. iT WOULD BE ASUM TO SEE HIM PICKED UP BY A MAJOR BAND AS THE LEAD SINGER

Kelli | 5/26/2009, 7:49 pm EST

I adore Adam – every aspect of him. He is different yes..and I love him as he is. What an idol he is. I will buy his music and pay big money to go to his concerts! I cant say that about any other singer currently out.

Brit | 5/26/2009, 7:49 pm EST

I love that he wants to be wild and provocative! I hope he comes back with his album and just shocks the hell out of people! I gotta feeling Adam will be one to remember.

Page1 | 5/26/2009, 7:50 pm EST

I am a huge fan of Adam. I think Adam will go down in history as one of the greatest rockers of our time.

But, to be totally honest, I am really glad he didn’t win AI because the contract they would give him would limit him to the “cookie cutter” album they want every winner to release. He wouldn’t be able to tour with anyone nor would he have the comfort of being him crazy, unpredictable, creative, sexy self.
He’s a self made artist so he didn’t need AI for that. All he needed was tv time to show us what he’s got.

I cannot wait to see what he’ll come up with next.

I gotta admit I am guilty of googling him, you-tubing him and watching his performances on the AI website.

Much much deserved success!!!

Adamae | 5/26/2009, 7:51 pm EST

Adam is such a good soul and we are all fortunate to have witnessed his talent all season long. True what he said, sometimes your personal life precedes your talent, but don’t worry Adam, you are now in the REAL world where you will truly SHINE. It’s Tuesday and I wish the show was still on so we can have our weekly dose of Adam, I miss him.

Amy | 5/26/2009, 7:52 pm EST

Adam deserved to WIN
I’ll be one of the first in line when his debut alblum comes out

Elaine M | 5/26/2009, 7:55 pm EST

I want to see a QUEEN Greatest Hits album featuring ADAM LAMBERT DO IT ADAM, DO IT

WannabeMRS.Glambert | 5/26/2009, 7:56 pm EST

Adam I love you!!! I can’t wait to hear your first album! I really really loved it when you sang “A Change Is Gonna Come” I thought it was beautiful I hope you do something like that – and I also loved it when you sang “I just love you” – and I think it would be really really cool if you and Kris did a low-key duet..wouldn’t that be awesome?? I don’t know what you would do but something like “I think I love you” – a slower song..I think it would open some people’s eyes. Whatever you do I will love it I know!

love Adam | 5/26/2009, 7:56 pm EST

Adam has a huge career in front of him! It won’t be long before those AI judges proudly say “we found him!”

Jan | 5/26/2009, 7:57 pm EST

Adam,
You re my hero! Keep on being different, Dude! God made us all different. You rock man and I love you positive attitude. You will always be my American Idol.

Valary | 5/26/2009, 8:02 pm EST

I am very happily married, and have driven my husband nuts with my obsession with Adam. His mother sent him home after a visit with the copy of “Entertainment Weekly” showcasing Adam. I admire this man, secondary to my husband, of course, as a legend in the making. I simply cannot believe, although as sweet a guy as Kris is, that he won AI over Adam. God bless the hypocrites!

Linda | 5/26/2009, 8:02 pm EST

Thanks for the fabulous interview. It seemed very fresh. A lot of things I haven’t heard him say before (and I’ve read and watched all the interviews). Adam will go far in the music industry and he is such an inspiration! Such and fabulous person and an unbelievable talent. I can’t wait to see what he does next but I know it will be exciting and fill our senses. I am also one of those who really wanted him to win but feels it’s probably for the best that he didn’t-more creative freedom.

Donna | 5/26/2009, 8:04 pm EST

Adam will go far because his head is screwed on properly. Not only should he be commended for his dignity and style, but you can tell he was raised well. Koodoos to his mom and dad. He is a role model for young and old alike. His attitude is as great as his voice and performance.

I am joyous to watch the birth of our next music icon. Go Adam.

Linda | 5/26/2009, 8:05 pm EST

I am having Tuesday night Adam Lambert withdrawal pains. He sure will be missed! Is there a cure?

Blond Mom | 5/26/2009, 8:12 pm EST

Not only is Adam one of the most talented and interesting people to appear on Idol, he incredibly intelligent. It is no wonder that rock icons, such as Queen, respect him. Can’t wait for his album.

Jennifer | 5/26/2009, 8:12 pm EST

Thank you, RS, for continuing the coverage on this wonderful man. What’s next? A cover please. Someone as sexually magnetic and talented as Mr. Lambert deserves to make your cover. Thank you, Adam for reawakening my love of Rock. Not just the music but the lifestyle and passion that goes along with it. I look forward to reading many more articles on this artist. He truly has restored my faith in music. Now we have an actual Rockstar to look forward to. We haven’t had a Prince, Michael Jackson, or Freddie Mercury in a long while. Adam just might be that one for us.

Darla | 5/26/2009, 8:13 pm EST

Adam is such a sincere, talented person – I am a huge fan and will definitely follow his career as it leads him to success

mike g | 5/26/2009, 8:14 pm EST

I don’t think there is any doubt that stagnant ideology played a
major role in the final voting.
I consider myself to be somewhat
of a layman talent scout and Adam
is by far the greatest talent that
Idol has encountered in all 8 seasons. I was blown away by “Ring of Fire”, it was simply genius.
As for Queen,Adam has the potential to catapult the band back into contemporary consciousness provided the band
still has the juice. I think they do and with Adam will launch one of the most profound comebacks
ever orchastrated.

Seth | 5/26/2009, 8:14 pm EST

Adam is cool and his voice is awe inspiring. I hope he puts out a killer debut album.

eugene | 5/26/2009, 8:15 pm EST

Love, love, love Adam Lambert! Wonderful interview. Thank you!!!

Jordana | 5/26/2009, 8:15 pm EST

ARKANSAS POPULATION 2.8 AND 38 MILLION VOTES CAME FROM THAT STATE ALONE???Adam you are going to be one of the mega stars of this century.Sadly, you lost because of a very well organized group of students from the univ of Arkansas who used a software to cast more votes per min and vote after the lines were closed in their time zone. Also power texting helped them cheat.

Susan L | 5/26/2009, 8:16 pm EST

Thank you so much for this interview! It’s great to “hear” Adam’s voice while going through some serious withdrawal. I can’t wait to hear the fusion he puts together in his album. I can’t wait to see him in concert, even if it is with all the other Idolettes. I can’t wait to follow what I expect will be a fantastic music career. Adam, I am entertained by you, entranced by you and inspired by you!

Diane | 5/26/2009, 8:19 pm EST

God knew what he was doing when he made Adam. What an intelligent, artistic, humble human being he is. Here is to all the success that you strive for Adam. With everything that you have you are sure to succeed. Oh, and you got the look, baby.

Adam Lambert is a fantastic singer/performer! He deserves to be a huge star.
He also seems real nice and kind.

*Beenie* | 5/26/2009, 8:20 pm EST

Adam, you’re an incredible guy! You’re thoughtful and considerate and, most importantly, so true to yourself. There’s nothing more refreshing than an artist who is genuinely happy – because it really shows in your performance and creativity. Your voice is hauntingly mesmerizing. While I’m waiting for your own album to be released, I’m listening and treasuring all of your Idol songs/videos – in the car, on my laptop/PC, etc. Man, you ROCK! And, you’ve definitely ROCKED my world and made me a happier person inside and out! Thank you for sharing your talented gifts. I can’t wait until your album(s) and concern schedule is released. What a wonderful and peaceful thing for me to look forward to. Christmas came early for me this year.

Zayda | 5/26/2009, 8:20 pm EST

Adam, thank you for entertaining us every week. I will miss you on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but cannot wait to see what you’ll do next. You have a fan for life in me.

Tony | 5/26/2009, 8:20 pm EST

Adam Lambert rocks!

Terry | 5/26/2009, 8:20 pm EST

I’m 67 years old and am a lady with soul! So it takes one to know one and Adam has more soul than anyone I ever heard and I can recognize it a mile away! I’m glad he didn’t win… I want him out there doing his thing! He’s forever in my heart and on my iPod – i just can’t get enough of his soul food.

Samantha | 5/26/2009, 8:21 pm EST

Why do I imagine this interview in dark corner of a New York Bar with cigarrate’s smoke and chicks walking with a tray of beers?

Anyway! Hell yeah! finally a decent interview!

Thanks Rolling Stone!

iloveadam2much | 5/26/2009, 8:22 pm EST

Thanks for this interview! It’s great to have Adam himself explain how he felt about so many issues on idol. He is a superstar on his way to megastardom-Adam, you’ve got so many fans around the world already! We can’t wait to see and hear more of you!!

lwilliams | 5/26/2009, 8:23 pm EST

I’m having Tuesday night Adam Lambert withdrawal pains. Help!

Karena | 5/26/2009, 8:25 pm EST

What a travesty that this young man did not take home the American Idol Title….and what a blessing that the rest of us got our World Idol. He is unquestionably the most talented force out there, and yet he is so balanced.
Congratulations, Adam Lambert, our World Idol.
xoxo

Susan | 5/26/2009, 8:25 pm EST

Wow.. some of the above comments are very enthusiastic and funny . I like the one about waning to have Adam’s children . That is a fan who is really taken by this guy.
Well I admit I also have been bitten .Not since the the 1970’s rock era have I felt like following an artist. Personally I would like to see more of him . Like for example a TV variety show where he can have special guest , sing whatever he likes and perhaps have Bob Mackey contribute to his wardrobe. The sky is the limit . I would buy a CD of Adam’s music and go to his concerts when possible ( live in New Zealand) but to see him regularly on his own TV show would be so much more satisfying . Maybe not quite up there with having his kids but it would do . Adam , I wish you great success in your career but most of all I wish for you peace, health and joy . And watch out for those breeders!

JanisK | 5/26/2009, 8:26 pm EST

Adam – baby, you just rock! I am so happy to be able to read your side of things and can’t wait to see what you create next. Tuesday night is a lonely night now for all of us that love you, but reading this article helped! I want you to know that you are such a positive light in the world, it’s almost blinding, darlin’ but I am happy (along with millions of others) to suffer! You make beautful music and bring such happiness to me – keep on doing what you do cuz’ what you give to me takes my breath away….

tourist lol | 5/26/2009, 8:27 pm EST

Adam the best of America ;)

Virginia | 5/26/2009, 8:28 pm EST

Adam has amazing talent that few stars possess. His ability to fulfill his dream will also fill the hearts of young and old alike. From gospel to rock you were gifted to make dreams come true. Would love to hear you sing songs for the Elvis fans also. Keep your head high and follow your path to greatness.

Linda | 5/26/2009, 8:28 pm EST

Tuesday night without Adam on American Idol is bleak. Thanks for the great interview.

Sue | 5/26/2009, 8:28 pm EST

We love you here in Australia Adam.
I will be the first in line to buy your music. I listen to every song you sang on Idol everyday and it makes my day a happy one.

Suzanne | 5/26/2009, 8:28 pm EST

No one has caused this much of a “stir” in the music industry since Elvis Presley! Adam Lambert is an inspiration to so many people. His positive outlook on life, his determination to be true to himself, and his tremendous efforts to not only show us his UNBELIEVABLE vocal talent, but to entertain us while doing so puts him in an ELITE category of temendously gifted artists. GO ADAM!

ryeco | 5/26/2009, 8:29 pm EST

thanks Rolling Stone! Once again you put out the freshest article on Adam, I’ve rarely followed your magazine before, but I think i’ll become a loyal reader now. Would love to see Adam on the RS cover one day very soon, he thoroughly deserved it. He’ll always be our idol, and the first and only star that ever came out of AI.

Lissa | 5/26/2009, 8:30 pm EST

I am so very glad that for the 1st time I tuned into AI this season and was able to go on the Adam journey. Love you Adam and wish you all the success and happiness you rightfully deserve. Your beautiful spirit was meant to be shared with the world

Adam is the best ever on American Idol. I loved Adam’s ROF as much as Mad World and his pre-idol perfomances. The numbers with KISS and Queen were just awesome. Cannot wait for an album and a concert in Eastern Canada!

Thank you Adam for been just you!

Karen | 5/26/2009, 8:31 pm EST

Great interview! I hope Adam gets to be the international star he has earned!

vicki | 5/26/2009, 8:31 pm EST

aside from adam’s amazing, out of this world talent, what impresses me most is adam as a person. every interview i’ve seen of him, just proves what a great heart and soul he has. he is a bright light that shines through and through. this young man is going to set such a great example on how someone can be unique and different and still touch the hearts of everyone who watches the journey adam is about to part take in. he has such a great head on his shoulders and he is such a great role model for the young people of today. (and this 41 year old mother of 2, as well)!

Karen | 5/26/2009, 8:32 pm EST

Can’t wait to see Adam in concert. He is an unbelievable talent!!

Musiclover | 5/26/2009, 8:34 pm EST

Adam is so inspiring. I am awestruck.

Adam Supporter | 5/26/2009, 8:35 pm EST

With each interview, it becomes more and more apparent that Adam is a genuine artist poised to contribue to the music industry — not only as an artist but also as an inspiration to several generations.

Keep up the positive energy Adam – we love you!

CdnGirl | 5/26/2009, 8:36 pm EST

Adam you are truly amazing ….wishing you all the very best – keep smiling!

Dawn | 5/26/2009, 8:37 pm EST

Adam was one of the most exciting and sensual contestants ever on Idol. He has a talent like no other and I can’t believe he has not been discovered before he was even on Idol. There will never be another Adam Lambert on American Idol ever. His name should be engraved on that stage he performed on so many times. He is going to go so far in the music industry and maybe he could even do some modeling on the side because he is stunning and very photgenic.

nikki | 5/26/2009, 8:39 pm EST

We love you Adam. You are our American Idol. You are such an inspiration to others by your sensitivity, honesty, kindness and heart felt sincerity. You will go far. Kris is the AI, Arkansas Idol. But you are so forgiving. Your talent is unbelievable. At least AI showcased you to the world, and you will meet with the success you deserve for your great talent and spirit. Never give up your smiling, happy attitude. We cannot wait to see your album. Make it soon. We love you, Adam.

nina | 5/26/2009, 8:39 pm EST

it’s a mad world without adam.

SonyBMGGuy | 5/26/2009, 8:40 pm EST

There is absolutely no other contestant who has consistantly entertained the viewers each week with his stage presence, charisma, energy and angelic vocals such as Lambert. This AI is truly a joke. I truly believe after this controversey with Lambert there will a subsequent decreased amount of adult viewers next season. As far as Adam Lambert is concered, he is actually the true winner. he has followers world wide. A real media buzz. “The world is his oyster now”. Go Adam!

Katarina | 5/26/2009, 8:41 pm EST

will continue to support Adam Lambert any way I can! He has an amazing talent!

Joy | 5/26/2009, 8:41 pm EST

I think what I love most about Adam is his utter fearlessness. That’s so rare and admirable. I even bought a ticket to the AI tour. My first time and I still can’t believe I did it. But I’m looking forward to seeing him live…and whatever else he does next!

Katie | 5/26/2009, 8:43 pm EST

Adam Lambert is the most EXCITING thing to happen to music in a long long time.
He has ABSOLUTELY everything going for him – personality, charisma, good looks, amazing vocal ability.
I’m 26 and I feel like I’m 16 again, getting all obsessed with my favorite singer. Its crazy!!

ROLLING STONE – YOU NEED TO GIVE ADAM THE COVER AND IN DEPTH INTERVIEW!! Please !!!

*Beenie* | 5/26/2009, 8:43 pm EST

I just listened to Adam sing opera… omg… his voice is sooo incredible… There’s nothing more sexy than a gorgeous 27 year old man who can sing everything from heavy metal to R&B to country to opera. WOW!!

Anne | 5/26/2009, 8:43 pm EST

I am 51 and feel like I’ve been waiting a long time for Adam to come along. It has been since the ’70s that we’ve seen his kind of talent and watching him each week reminded me of the great talents of the days gone past and brought back all those great memories. I like how he says he wants to do a combination of different genres, because it’s best to stay open minded. I would love to see him do re-makes of the 60s, 70s, 80s – everyone was saying – I wish Adam would do that song, I’d love to hear his voice on that song. I think it would be amazing to hear that incredible, beautiful voice on our favorite classic tunes.

Roxy411 | 5/26/2009, 8:44 pm EST

I hope Queen offers Adam to fill in for Mercury. That would be awesome. I seen Queen 3 times live and Adam is a re-incarnation of the late, great Freddie Mercury vocally and mannerism. Long Live the King! We love you Adam Lambert!

tiny | 5/26/2009, 8:44 pm EST

just listen to you sing ”MADE WORLD” LIGHTS UP MY DAY

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 8:45 pm EST

I can’t get enough Adam Lambert. He is absolutely amazing!!!! Watching him sing with Kiss and Queen…….. what can you say…
AWESOME

MARY

Anonymous | 5/26/2009, 8:45 pm EST

Adam is absolutely amazing. He is the most talented person I have seen in years, and also has a wonderful personality, which is rare these days.

kanista | 5/26/2009, 8:46 pm EST

Adam, wish you all the best for the future and looking forward to your album. Thank you for taking part in AI this year. You are the reason I watched the show this year, swore off the show when Daughtry was voted off.

micky | 5/26/2009, 8:46 pm EST

I’m sorry Adam didn’t win because of cheat voting, we all know that’s the real reason, but I’m looking forward to his album. I thought he would have formed a “super band,” with music similar to Pink Floyd. I think people feel more connected to bands.

cheryl7475 | 5/26/2009, 8:47 pm EST

i agree, Tuesday nights are so boring now. there is nothing as exciting as watching Adam perform.
he is truly awesome and does it with so little effort, he was born to be a star. i literally can not wait to hear his first album.

MartinaNY | 5/26/2009, 8:47 pm EST

We will miss seeing Adam Lambert on Tuesday nights. :(

However, we cannot wait to see what he has instore for his fans. This man is sexy, confident and vocally a genius.

jan lynn | 5/26/2009, 8:47 pm EST

LUV LUV LUV ADAM. Im 56 and have
not been this excited about a singer since the 70’s and 80’s.
LOVED RING OF FIRE, SEXY. It’s all
been said, ADAM SHOULD HAVE WON,
His talent is so PASSIONATE and I
can get enough of his vocals.
I, too, listen to his music daily.
ENJOY ADAM, CANT WAIT FOR YOUR CDS
VIDEOS, CONCERTS. CANT GET ENOUGH OF YOU.

Missy | 5/26/2009, 8:48 pm EST

Great article! I love Adam and cannot wait to see him in dallas in July. He is my American idol! I look forward to his future music.

gg | 5/26/2009, 8:48 pm EST

I paid $165 for Idol tour tickets [for the first time ever!]just to see Adam!! I have all his songs on my Ipod and I can’t stop watching the duet with Queen on Youtube! Thanks for the great article.

Katie | 5/26/2009, 8:49 pm EST

Good luck Adam. You are a class act, accepting defeat with such grace and dignity. You should have taken the crown, but as long as you achieve success, which no doubt you will, I will be OK with it all. I have nothing against Kris. He is just no ADAM.

Adela | 5/26/2009, 8:49 pm EST

Great interview ! Adam is an extraordinary artist and a very smart and articulate person, from what I can see in all his interviews. I can’t wait to see what he does on his new album !

Marianne | 5/26/2009, 8:50 pm EST

Someone like Adam Lambert doesn’t come along very often – he is the whole package and then some. Looks, fearlessness, glamour, a ton of talent, a fabulous voice – wow. I am so glad to be here at the same time he is – and I can’t wait to see what comes next. This guy can do anything.

Martin | 5/26/2009, 8:50 pm EST

Fans found Adam and lost respect for American Idol. At least we found this dude exists. He is completely awesome. I am a musician and he has a combo of Bowie/Merury/Rose & Elvis going on. Rock on Adam!

Katie | 5/26/2009, 8:50 pm EST

Adam is THE most exciting thing to happen to music in a very long time.

IV | 5/26/2009, 8:50 pm EST

Adam is bigger than AMERICAN Idol. He’s our World Idol! Thanks a million for a wonderful season. Love your performances.

Judiln | 5/26/2009, 8:52 pm EST

Adam you rock! My tuesday nights are now so boring and sad, i couldn’t wait to get home from work and get dinner ready and head to the TV for my Adam fix every Tuesday night. Now i am hooked to the DVR and replaying past episodes of Idol…Thank you for all you have done for my life…made me a better person.

voltaire-sun | 5/26/2009, 8:52 pm EST

Adam you’re so classy. Every time you always say, Kris is so talented
Kris on the other hand never mentions about your talent only what an amazing guy you are. Simon is the best judge of talents. He picked you and he was the only one who didn’t give Kris the formal standing O. You’ll BE #1 globally and famous beyond the earth’s stratosphere. You have a unique voice and that super-human range. Everyone who really knows music said so. The others could never top your vocals. That’s why some people feel you scream. High notes require such intensity, otherwise, it’s LAME like every other current singers, incdg. Kris, Gokey, Cook ect. I can’t wait for that day… when you top the AI earning list. For the first year. I project $30M for your gross. PLEASE LEARN TO SAVE THOSE BIG BUCKS TO COME. HIRE AN HONEST MONEY MANAGER. INSURE YOUR VOICE. I’m in the money biz. Just a bit of advice, you could splurge on 5% of your earnings in your costumes and accessories. I know how you love shopping. I could tell you have a magnanimous heart. 10% tithing of your gross, could make a huge difference in this world. Probably funding charities who would fight for the bullied kids and those who are “DIFFERENT”. THANKS ADAM for your UNIQUE ARTISTRY, I can’t get enough of YOU…I’ll patiently wait. Please take your time with your first album. Get into our souls, make us ROCK, make us CRY for if you go deep into our souls,
it would impregnate our emotions and our minds…ad forevermore, you’ll have a place in everyone’s heart…LOVE YOU….ADAM the GREAT!
I hope you’re reading this if not please forward this to ADAM…!!!

Leila | 5/26/2009, 8:54 pm EST

Adam, I wish you could briefly go back in time to the 1950’s when Elvis hit the scene. You are taking the world by storm just like Elvis did. I was one of those kids waiting to watch Elvis (or at least half of him) on the Ed Sullivan show. Just be you, and thank you for sharing your beautiful incredible voice with us. Senior citizen who will see you in Dallas.

Suz-eh | 5/26/2009, 8:54 pm EST

Everything about Adam is so exciting..even hypnotic. When he performs I am glued to it. My heart races. He is beautiful inside and out. I love all his interviews. He is a class act. I will never tire of him. I just want more. Love everything he has performed. I will buy anything and everything he records. I have never felt this strong about any other artist. He has “it” for me.

lori | 5/26/2009, 8:55 pm EST

Adam is a amazing singer and entertainer. He should be people magazines sexist man alive this year. I can’t stop thinking about him. He is a superstar!

Michelle | 5/26/2009, 8:55 pm EST

I have to say – I listen to all types of music and love non-mainstream. I love “different”. With the discovery of Adam, I am elated. It’s refreshing to hear someone who is unique and so diverse. Kiss and Tell just proves all the more how he can sing anything. On the more fun side, the fact that he is extremely sexy and gorgeous with piercing eyes doesn’t hurt…lol…it’s going to be a long wait, waiting for his first masterpiece!!!

Marianne | 5/26/2009, 8:55 pm EST

Someone like Adam Lambert doesn’t come along very often – I feel so lucky to be here at the same time he is. Looks, glamour, fearlessness, tons of talent and that VOICE – wow. I have loved what he’s done so far, how he has handled all that his come his way and I can’t wait to see what comes next – it’s gonna be big. This guy can do anything.

Kathleen | 5/26/2009, 8:59 pm EST

I’m a 54 year old conservative female who feels Adam Lambert is definitely the most talented, polished singer / entertainer American Idol has ever had on the show! I am a huge fan who will go out of my way to watch and listen to Adam at every opportunity. He is a good and gracious kid who, fortunately for us, happens to also be a phenomenal vocalist. I predict iconic status in the not too distant future for Adam. Anyone who really knows quality music has got to be an Adam Lambert fan!

Christine | 5/26/2009, 8:59 pm EST

Adam – you are AWESOME!!!! I haven’t felt this way about a singer since my David Bowie days!! SO looking forward to your CD. New Zealand loves you xxx

Karen-Rhode Island | 5/26/2009, 8:59 pm EST

I have been sick to my stomach over him losing since like this past Sunday. Then I realize how much better he is off is the outcome. I just hate that Idol played with peoples votes. Hands down, vocally, uniquely, artistically brought it home each week. AI are fools not to sign him. This man will be as big as Underwood. P.S. Clay Aiken is a moron.

Kathleen | 5/26/2009, 8:59 pm EST

i’m having adam withdrawals already!! i look endlessly online for anything adam… can’t wait to see him on the summer tour and his future concerts!!!

Kelly | 5/26/2009, 9:02 pm EST

Adam has inspired women of all generations! He is so exciting to watch that we just cant get enough of him! I know the best is yet to come!

MDerrick | 5/26/2009, 9:04 pm EST

Adam, actually ROF was one of my favorite songs. I downloaded all of them, but love to hit the repeat key on that one. It was daring, ethnic, spiritual, and verty artistic. You also looked hot in that jacket.

Leticia | 5/26/2009, 9:05 pm EST

Adam, I am so sad because now Tuesday nights are lonley. I use to rush from work to see you. I cried when you were in the bottom three. But I cannot believe all the fans you have. Like Paula said you will be iconic! The world just got the greatest gift in music. You are our new Elvis! You stay strong don’t give up and focus on positive things, when you hear gossip about you hold your head up high and don’t mind the little things. Clay Aiken does not even come close to your toes.. lol. Always remember stay away from negative things remember now you are a celebrity and people are mean. Always remember your fans adore you and we will always have your back. That Johnny Cash song the way you interpreted it was so hot I melted. Love you from Puerto Rico, Leticia.

GrantT110 | 5/26/2009, 9:06 pm EST

This kid is so gracious in every single interview I see him on. He is amazing and so talented that I only tuned into this Idol to watch him. Such a nice kid. I will definately buy his cd. Looking forward to it!

Trisha | 5/26/2009, 9:08 pm EST

LOL I still google Adam every other day. Adam withdrawals. This man oozes sex appeal and his vocals make me melt.

geenielyn | 5/26/2009, 9:08 pm EST

Whoa – this guy is hotter than hot – he will go far!!! Amazing, talented, sexy – WOW!!! Good luck to you Adam – you’re already a superstar! :)

Shar | 5/26/2009, 9:09 pm EST

Great interview. You don’t get many people like Adam often. Someone who has so much talent and is yet such a genuine and positive person. You can really tell that he cares a lot about music and I wish him a very successful future. He has made so many people happy and he deserves the same. Tuesday nights are deffinately going to dull without the weekly Adam fix. While we’re waiting for his CD to come out, let’s hope for a Rolling Stone issue with Adam on the cover! I know a lot of people would want that!

luvadam | 5/26/2009, 9:09 pm EST

Adam is truly an amazing vocalist and already a star. I cannot wait to buy his first of many albums and am counting the time until I can see him in his first solo concert! What a production that will be! I would pay anything to see it!!

Olivia | 5/26/2009, 9:09 pm EST

Adam was a star from the moment he stepped on the Idol stage and there is no turning back. He is an awesome, gifted performer. He is a true gentleman and an honor to have as a role model for kids or adults. His starpower will reach unlimited heights. How he gets to so many of us right into our very soul I cant explain. But he does and I dont care how he does it. I just want more and more and more of Adam. You rock and I cant wait to see all that you will do.

TorgenUK | 5/26/2009, 9:14 pm EST

Red state, blue state, who cares WE are so done with that Idol after this outrage but discovered Adam Lambert. He is our Idol and the own who really won, God works in mysterious ways. He will be much better off without that stupid title. Thank You Adam for your entertainment each week!

Jennifer | 5/26/2009, 9:15 pm EST

Love Adam! He is the ONLY reason I watched AI this season, after skipping out on last season. He is an amazing singer and performer, and his charisma and honesty and sensuality can’t help but draw you in to him. I can’t wait for his album, this boy never fails to keep us guessing and excited!

SHIKE-SAMA | 5/26/2009, 9:15 pm EST

Queen needs Adam but ADAM does not need Queen. I’d like to see him do his own album. Probably one concert with Queen. It’ll make everyone worldwide scream and want for more…Then it will blast Adam’s career, like a rocket to the moon. When God made Adam…… there was lightning and rocking thunder that shook our Mad World. ADAM is Shibumi “state of effortless perfection!!!

Lynnsy | 5/26/2009, 9:16 pm EST

Can everyone imagine themselves singing Feel Good? Wearing the silver white suit? Floating confidently down those stairs…
singing those words about “freedom”? On my 70th birthday this year, that’s my party. Black nail polish and all…
I thank Adam for those moments. He is a gift to us all. His joy with doing what he wants, has always wanted is beyond inspiring.
Thank you, Adam.

Aliyah | 5/26/2009, 9:18 pm EST

Adam, I just have to say that as a mother of three teenagers. If my kids become as well grounded and down to earth as you seem to be as an adult, then I will have suceeded as a parent. My family and I loved watching you on AI. I can’t wait to buy your music. I haven’t purchased any cd’s for years, so believe me thats saying a lot! Stay true to yourself and you will do fine.

michael | 5/26/2009, 9:18 pm EST

Its like I can’t get enough of him-I listen to him everyday. He is passionate about his music, and it shows his music.

He should have won-nevertheless, I will buy his first CD the second it comes out.

Gwen | 5/26/2009, 9:18 pm EST

I have never went out of my way to see a AI contestant. Even though I love David Cook, who I still want to see, I love Adam and would actually pay $200 to see him and that is the truth, he is electric and so awesome. I fell like someone punched me in the head when he lost. We had a Glambert party, silver wine glasses, black & pink cray paper and all. He is so much better off he can do what he wants now. What a enormous floowing he has, fantastic.

Yani | 5/26/2009, 9:20 pm EST

I love that he is a cheeky, sexy, S-disturber with not just style but substance as well. He has been soaked in the Hollywood scene but seems to have retained some idealistic innocence. While I’m sure he has the positive energy and ability to inspire, I wish people would quit going on about what he symbolizes and focus on what he is, an amazing, captivating performer, and just enjoy!

Carl NJ | 5/26/2009, 9:21 pm EST

I am a married man with 3 children and my wife made me tune into this AI over Adam. I have to say man, I was hooked on this guys vocals. Makes absolutely no sense he did not win. he will be as big as Elvis Presley, same controversey!

carrie | 5/26/2009, 9:26 pm EST

Adam, we love you so much! Definitely having withdrawal symtoms cause it’s Tuesday. We wish you the best. Can’t wait to see you on Idol Tour. You are the only reason why we are going to the concert for the very first time!

Lynn | 5/26/2009, 9:28 pm EST

I liked reading Adam’s goals because he kind of explains what he has done to me: he’s helped me escape, dance, laugh, party and love everyone. Every performance he did on Idol brought out a deep emotion in me. I LOVE the message he is spreading, however intentional or unintentional it is. He’s definitely pushing people’s buttons! I find it funny how so many people were uncomfortable with Ring of Fire. I LOVED it. I think he brings out emotions that maybe some people haven’t let themselves feel and maybe it scares them. And yup, he does it all with a little wink which is what makes us all love him. Entertaining, interesting, and awe inspiring. His voice absolutely amazes me.
I love Adam and I hope he can stay happy and healthy and humble and surrounded by light.

Jaylin | 5/26/2009, 9:30 pm EST

Adam Lambert is the next big super star! I can’t believe America chose bland Kris over this exciting, talented, articulate, beautiful man. Adam is electrifying and interesting-just what the music industry needs. I can’t wait to see him in concert and hear what kind of amazing music he will make. Adam you are truly an inspiration to many and deserve all the success and praise you are getting and will continue to get!

Sarah | 5/26/2009, 9:31 pm EST

Adam, the world loves you! You are going to be Iconic and the world will embrace you! You made season 8 the most interesting season ever. I’ll be the first in the line to buy your CD in Israel. You are so loved and appreciated here, you can’t imagine. I wish I could come to the U.S to see your concert. That is my goal now. Bless you, beautiful inside-out boy, bless you!! You worth all the goodness the world can offer. Love you!!

peanuts | 5/26/2009, 9:32 pm EST

Adam is the winner! People are buying his music videos on itunes. He has 17 music videos in the top 40. Kris has 4 in the top 40. It is very clear to me who has the popular vote. People vote with their checkbooks when they REALLY like someone. Kudos to Adam-expect a nice royalty check!!
Cannot wait to see Adam touring by himself, and for the album. Go Adam.
PS. Everyone in my daughter’s class( 10 year olds) voted for Adam.

SunStudioTN | 5/26/2009, 9:34 pm EST

I am an older gentleman from Memphis. My brother was friends with Johnny Cash and he would have been proud of Adam Lambert’s version of “Ring of Fire”. A job well done. I have seen alot of entertainers, this young man is going to hit to stardom, gratefully so.

Jenana | 5/26/2009, 9:34 pm EST

Adam is going to be a superstar. American Idol this season would have been nothing without him. Although I generally hate that shitty cheesy show, Im glad for its existence for once because it introduced Adam to us.

I can’t wait for his CD.

Also, what an articulate and interesting guy he is. Love listening to his interviews and reading them almost as much, but I prefer to visual !!

Alex | 5/26/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Adam, you are the best thing that EVER happened to American Idol! The fact that you didn’t win is a joke and is absolutely ridiculous. It doesn’t matter because regardless you are going to be a world-wide sensation and super star. Idol is a joke now and has forever lost any credibility it ever might have had. Adam you are the most talented singer out there today and will become a legend in the music industry. You had me and the rest of the world captivated the minute you stepped on that Idol stage. Thank you for being you, we love you just the way you are!

Another Sharon | 5/26/2009, 9:41 pm EST

Great interview! Thanks, Rolling Stone, for keeping Adam in the spotlight. He’s amazing in every way and it’s really thrilling to watch his career take off. I can’t wait to hear what he brings us with his first CD. Love, love, love him.

Jennifer | 5/26/2009, 9:43 pm EST

He’s awesome. I need him on my tv every week :(

Judy | 5/26/2009, 9:44 pm EST

Fabulous interview ! Watching and listening to Adam each week was the highlight of the show. His performances were vocally flawless passionate and daring. He is this generations once in a life time artist ! He defines superstar !

Arkansas Fan | 5/26/2009, 9:45 pm EST

Adam was my favorite but I didn’t vote for him because I didn’t want him to win. I just couldn’t bear to hear him sing that song. It took away his creative ablility. Kris really needed the win because Adam was already a supernova! I belief quite a few people felt this way

Sarah | 5/26/2009, 9:50 pm EST

Adam, the world loves you! You are going to be Iconic and the world will embrace you! You made season 8 the most interesting season ever. I’ll be the first in the line to buy your CD in Israel. Doug Roman | 5/26/2009, 9:50 pm EST

Adam Lambert was the best thing really to ever step on that Idol stage, ever. I am still fuming over the loss but look forward with anticipation what this guy will do next. This mans vocals are insane.

Caitie | 5/26/2009, 9:53 pm EST

I’m so glad to hear other Adam fans’ positive comments. It makes me feel so happy for Adam. I am sitting here typing with my black finger nails (in honor of Adam) and I am just happy. Thank you Adam! You rock!!!!! BTW, Great article! I want to see Adam on your cover and he also better grace People’s 100 Most Beautiful People issue very soon! Can you imagine the beautiful pics who would take??? Hmmmm…..

Jen | 5/26/2009, 9:53 pm EST

Adam shook up American Idol, and America too, by being the most ridiculously fabulous performer the show has ever seen. He caused people to watch, listen, talk, blog, read, write and to pay attention to him. No small accomplishment, it takes a whole lot of talent to do all that. He definately has IT, the factor all entertainers want but only a few have as much or in the same way as Adam. He is blessed and a blessing. Thank you, Adam. You have earned your success.

Sarah | 5/26/2009, 9:53 pm EST

Arkansas Fan from, 9:45
Huge mistake, huge!!

Judy | 5/26/2009, 9:54 pm EST

I forgot to add that ROF,was a smoldering hot and brilliant performance !

Lisa | 5/26/2009, 9:55 pm EST

I voted for Kris but I think Adam is still going to be doing great as well. They are good friends and I like both of them. Adam may be international after reading all the blogs. Good for him! Go Adam!

Caitie | 5/26/2009, 9:58 pm EST

I meant to say can you imagine the beautiful pictures HE would take. Whatever…. you guys know what I mean. Adam is gorgeous as well as extremely talented!

Sayreville NJ | 5/26/2009, 9:59 pm EST

I have to admit this guy vocally is unbelievable. We had Jon Bon Jovi here when he used to sing in local bars. I am picky with my music and I like the likes of Lambert. He is completely a twist on Idol, the dark side we all want to be with the vocals of an angel. We will all support him!

jowilliams | 5/26/2009, 10:03 pm EST

Adam, you are the bomb, dawg. And everyone knows it! There are about a zillion people out here just twiddling our thumbs waiting on some more Adam…Man, you are one class act. We Adam fans are so glad you stayed true to yourself and flaunted the eyeliner and the nail polish. I’ve got the Beth final note on freeze frame. Those glitter eyes…plus, the good little arched eyebrow there…Let’s not even mention the striped pants. I’m SURE none of that was intentional..rofl. The voting was what it was…but, who cares really. It’s all about the music and my mission is to get Adam Lambert to the top of the Forbes Most Influential Entertainer List and….People’s Sexiest Man Alive. Are you with me there, Adam fans. Oh, Yeah. Focus, fans! Think about those photos!!!

Margie | 5/26/2009, 10:03 pm EST

Love you, Adam! You will be our World Idol. It’s amazing how much talent that you have, and very easy on the eyes too! You are amazing! Miss you on Tuesday nights, can’t wait to buy your 1st album. Best of luck in your career. You deserve every success. Your fan for life!

Magnificent Synonum | 5/26/2009, 10:05 pm EST

Thank you, Rolling Stone, for bringing us Adam’s words and thoughts on his Idol experience and that sizzlingly hypnotic event known as his “Ring of Fire” performance. Seriously, there is some borderline obsession going on here and I am relieved to read comments from so many others who are mesmerized, as I am, to the point of utter distraction. Adam is quite literally the first thing I think of when I awaken each morning and today was rough: no live performance tonight. Tuesdays have suddenly become very lonely, but Rolling Stone, this piece helps (as do YouTube and my extensive iTunes collection). This all may sound like a bunch of silly girliness (I am in my mid-30s, a successful professional, female, straight and in a long-term relationship) but so what: the point is that it is utterly genuine and a complete surprise to feel this way. We have felt this young man’s energy each week, while he has soared into our hearts. I want to live one day as richly and as fully as Adam does with every note. Adam Lambert has made me into a fool and I don’t see any end in sight, it’s like drowning and laughing fantastically, hysterically, in utter glee, all at once. I’m a fool for him. A fool! His music and his passion and his sneers and his kindness and his voice take my breath away. Adam, thank you for sharing your talent with the world. Please don’t make us wait too long to see you again.

(Meanwhile, if anyone has a cure for Adamania, Adam Fever, Adamisery, whatever the hell this inexplicable, inescapable obsession is, please share – I fear that many of us are going to alienate the people in our lives as a result of our obession!)

Jadde | 5/26/2009, 10:06 pm EST

Adam ROCKS ~ Good luck to this very talented young man.

gwennie | 5/26/2009, 10:06 pm EST

I think Adam has a screachy, nasal, irritating voice. I love rock, but I hate this guys voice. Also, I don’t get the Elvis comparisons. I have no problem with gays, but come on people….havn’t you ever heard the expression ROCK IS C%#K. Girls, get it through your heads that he’s not interested in you. Elvis was. Adam’s not. So, you better love him for that high screach singing, because he’s no ladies man.

Mrs.McAntire | 5/26/2009, 10:11 pm EST

You are a complete gentleman in every form. You are a class act that people cannot wait to follow. You bring the good out in people Adam and make them happy with your god given voice. Thank you sincerely!

Rachel | 5/26/2009, 10:11 pm EST

There is something about him that makes me want to keep looking him up online. He has such great talent! Adam your the best!

Nikki | 5/26/2009, 10:11 pm EST

I love that he’s into Madonna! He would be the perfect 21st century male version of Madonna. And I love how he wants to sing about controversial and provocative sunjects. He’ll really get Bill O’reily reved up! Stay true to yourself: Sexy, crazy, original, creative, and absolutely perfect!!!

Jennifer | 5/26/2009, 10:12 pm EST

Adam Lambert is Amazing. That is all.

Orion77 | 5/26/2009, 10:17 pm EST

I have been in a band ny whole life as a side job. Adam Lambert has the chops to be internationally known. For real, his vocals are something. I read it before and for his age he is so mature and channels several artists from the Glam/Rock era of the seventies. It’s nice to see him bringing that back. Good Luck Adam, you are the true winner!

Magnificent Synonym | 5/26/2009, 10:20 pm EST

Judy440 | 5/26/2009, 10:23 pm EST

Hey Gwennie go crawl back into your Kris/Danny Gokey blogs, no one on this blogs cares what you say. And believe it or not, no one cares about Adam’s sexual preference. He is a talented singer, has nothing to do with that. So take your narrow minded post and go back to the little people blogs. Adam is one sexy man! America Agrees!

Hippy Granny | 5/26/2009, 10:26 pm EST

Adam: are you reading these…take it all in son….you will rock the world…When you can capture the hearts of the oldsters too..ya got it…and it’s better than Elvis…Your Mom and Dad must have been great supporters to raise such a neat kid….God Bless

Fan of Adam | 5/26/2009, 10:27 pm EST

Adam is amazing and was the only reason I tuned in to watch every week. He’s a true star and will have a career that lasts for years after Idol ends. They were so lucky to have him on the show and we were all so lucky to watch him.

Kelly | 5/26/2009, 10:28 pm EST

This Christian, conservative, red-state person thinks that Adam is amazing, voted for him throughout and thinks people who voted based on anything but talent are seriously messed up. I look forward to following Adam’s career and can’t wait to see what he does next.

Yani | 5/26/2009, 10:29 pm EST

Hey gwennie: This is what you don’t get – Adam gets to us ladies on an emotional level, and we don’t care who or what he’s into, and we are still drawn – THAT’S POWER!

Anna | 5/26/2009, 10:30 pm EST

I can’t wait to hear your first album and to see you in a concert here in New Zealand. You are the most exciting thing that happens in music for a very, very, very long time! You are a tryly gift for the world and I’m pretty sure Freddy would see that in the same way.

Anna

Bamber | 5/26/2009, 10:31 pm EST

Thanks for the article, I can’t seem to get enough Adam! I particularly liked the last question and answer, I also noticed that in how some people responded to Adam being on the show. He’s just trying to further his career, guys…

Myrtle Beach SC | 5/26/2009, 10:32 pm EST

Adam, you should step on the soapbox. You are a true entertainer that captured millions of viewers with your charisma and lovely vocals. You make me melt when I see you. You are a true inspiration for tons of kids and contain the gratitude of a true star. Humble, and gracious in your interviews. That’s what we call a true Idol.

Oliver | 5/26/2009, 10:37 pm EST

I am here visiting an american family and watched American Idol with them. I am from Germany. This chap Adam is brillant. Totally different and has us talking abroad. It’s a mad worl he did not win, but it would be madder if he did not have so many fans, but I see he does, so I feel better now. Danke’

Marlene from Toronto, Canada | 5/26/2009, 10:43 pm EST

WOW, WOW, WOW ADAM! You are truly a magnificent human being, artist, and example for young and old alike. I love how you stir controversy with that voice, and how you are so classy as to ignore all the uncalled-for commentary regarding your Idol journey, yourself as a person and other gossip. You focus on the true definition of entertainment – giving people something to look forward to, to draw a smile, help them escape and just truly be entertained. You handle yourself with true class and don’t fall into the gossip trap. What people tend to forget is you really just want to make music, contribute to artistry and spread happiness and joy to people. RING OF FIRE was intoxicating – I am Lebanese, so I am Middle Eastern, and was totally complimented by the sitar-driven version of Ring of Fire. It was pure genius and I know you have said that’s one song – which really stirs controversy for it’s “love it or hate it” nature – you want to sing on the Idols concert tour this summer. Keep stirring the pot baby, crossing the boundaries (EVERYONE BUY NO BOUNDARIES, RING OF FIRE AND OTHER ADAM GENIUS HITS ON iTUNES) and spreading that captivating voice around – we love you here in Canada and I would be so honoured to meet you one day!

Kelly | 5/26/2009, 10:45 pm EST

I haved watched American Idol and skipped seasons due to Daughtry being eliminated. This season was GOOD. They are all good, however, Adam Lambert was unreal. I don’t care if they critique he was on broadway, this man has presence. I voted several times and I am done with Idol. The show is a complete mockery on the general public’s opinions. Adam will sky rocket. Let’s sit and watch. We cannot wait.

Margaret | 5/26/2009, 10:47 pm EST

RS got it right. Adam is the first rock star AI produced. I’m looking forward to Adam’s new music and dancing to rock songs again.

Thank you, Adam, for all of your performances on AI. I hope you know how much you’re loved!

Christina | 5/26/2009, 10:48 pm EST

I love Adam.. he’s amazing.. he should be on the cover of the Rolling Stone one day.. i truly believe he will be

Genevieve | 5/26/2009, 10:50 pm EST

Here it is, another Tuesday night and we are all missing you Adam. It would be great if you could drop us an occasional “Tuesday Night Performance” on your official website. I know you are extremely busy right now and some of your fans have the tour to see you… but maybe later on.
Wishing you the best and above all just do what will make YOU happy and we will be there to enjoy it as well.

cindl | 5/26/2009, 10:52 pm EST

I owe you an apology. I voted for Kris because I thought it was going to be a complete landslide in your favor and I felt for him. You will do well, with or without Queen.

Camicar | 5/26/2009, 10:56 pm EST

What an articulate and thoughtful person, in addition to being the most amazing performer I’ve seen in YEARS. From the auditions, I thought he was something special and how wonderful to have my instincts proven true not only with his singing, but with his very soul. Adam, stay true to yourself, don’t let others push you into their boxes to make them happy or make them money, remmber that you have become a star because of who you are. Blaze your own path, don’t follow anyone else’s. Sheesh, I sounded like Paula there, but… Just do YOUR thing, Adam. Just remember who you are and don’t lose sight of that and you’ll be around forever. Thanks, RS for bringing us this article.

Dreamer11 | 5/26/2009, 10:56 pm EST

Adam brings out peoples feelings old and new. I am 18 years old and I liked Allison, but loved Adam. When she lost I voted for him. He makes me smile and made my granmother in a rocking chair smile. She said he is Elvis like everyone else is saying, I dont remember Elvis, but me & my friends will really remember Adam.

pippy | 5/26/2009, 10:57 pm EST

Cover on RS and in-depth interview NOW!!!!!

Adam's#1! | 5/26/2009, 10:59 pm EST

I would love for Adam to sing something like Michael Jackson’s Dirty Diana. That world be so cool and dangerous and it would blow people’s minds!

Spirit in the Night | 5/26/2009, 10:59 pm EST

I agree Mr. Lambert should carefully chose, he has the whole thing in the palm of his hand, it is his choice. He is young so I hope they dont try to pressure him. This man is an inspiration for the next generation, way to go Mr. Lambert.

AT&T cheat | 5/26/2009, 11:04 pm EST

Representatives of AT&T helped fans of Mr. Allen at the two Arkansas events by providing instructions on how to send 10 or more text messages at the press of a single button, known as power texts. Power texts have an exponentially greater effect on voting than do single text messages or calls to the show’s toll-free phone lines.

T. | 5/26/2009, 11:05 pm EST

Adam, you’re a class act….a great singer, and a down-to-earth, nice person. It was a blast watching you on AI. Now, I’m really looking forward to what you do when you have complete freedom!

pebbles | 5/26/2009, 11:11 pm EST

If AI was a singing contest, Adam would have won easily… counting unique votes only and banning text msgs. Instead, AI has turned into a voting contest, with the ‘winner’ racking up thousands of votes per person. Truly a mad world.

Cograts to Adam!! He mixed things up on that show and was so mesmerizing and entertaining…with flawless, effortless vocals. Been searching the web for everything Adam and now keeping current on all the interviews and appearances he has been doing post AI. His great personality really shines thru on these interviews. Here’s a guy with true talent that has loads of ideas…

The real contest that matters is what comes after AI. Adam easily will soar… Sure, everybody wants to ‘win’ when it comes to contests, however, I know Adam is a true winner and this will be widely known as time passes when Adam is still a creative artist. He is by far the most multi-talented, intriguing, amazing singer/entertainer in a very long time.

Thanks, Adam for sharing yourself with all of us!!!

Lucy | 5/26/2009, 11:13 pm EST

Adam you are fabulous and a reason I looked forward each week to American Idol. Ring of Fire was addicting…it just grows on you. I can’t understand why I have this obsession with Adam. I am a conservative, married grandmother so I unlike what Gweenie thinks, it has nothing to do about worrying if Adam is a ladies man. I don’t care. It is his incredible talent and personable charm that has me mesmerized.

Sherry | 5/26/2009, 11:14 pm EST

Adam, we are so lucky you were on Idol! You are the ultimate performer, but not only that, your gentle soul, playful personality, and downright astounding beauty shine through in every single performance, video & photo. Your family should be extremely proud not only of you but of themselves for raising such a wonderful man! I too have downloaded everything I could find online; listen to you daily; and am suffering severe Adam withdrawals!!! I cannot wait to see you and listen to your music for years to come…as a 41-yr-old woman, might I just say I could become a “cougar” immediately! LOL! Seriously, you are a beautiful man with a beautiful soul who has a TREMENDOUS future ahead…congratulations, sweetheart!

Susan | 5/26/2009, 11:17 pm EST

He is something special, with an appeal that crosses generations. My 23 year old musician daughter is as hooked on him as I am. He’s simply stunning — talk about the “it” factor, he’s certainly got it!

Kristy | 5/26/2009, 11:18 pm EST

Adam,

Just stay the same humble, classy, kick ass guy that you are. You will be just fine. Now that Idol is over, you can concentrate on bigger and better things to cme your way. Keep rocking!

gwennie | 5/26/2009, 11:18 pm EST

To Judy440,
If you don’t want to be exposed to all peoples’ opinions, then you not I, should stay off the internet blogs. Rolling Stone, in particular, does not surpress any opinions. Furthermore, the fact that you claim no interest in hearing the opinions of those who disagree with you, shows you to be an ignorant bore.
I DON’T LIKE ADAMS VOICE, AND I PREFER MY ROCK GODS TO PREFER WOMAN. That’s just what I like. Adam is free to like whatever he chooses, and screach about it, and you’re free to listen. But, again, if you don’t want to hear me, get off the blogs.

Kara | 5/26/2009, 11:18 pm EST

Adam is one amazing dude. He’s got the looks, the talents, the star power, the stage presence etc etc etc. All in one sentence, he’s got EVERYTHING that a successful performer needs to have. I am obsessed with him and his music. I have bought all his songs on ITUNES and recently bought the album which was basically the songs that i bought earlier but a double dip is okay for me if my money is going into Adam’s success. I really hope this boy becomes successful and iconic like Simon had said on the show. I have been disappointed with the current music industry for a few years but now that I know Adam will be releasing an album, I am so excited for the new music era! I hope good music will be back on the radio.

ADAMLambertTVshow | 5/26/2009, 11:20 pm EST

Well now there is nothing to look forward to on tuesdays. Adam is gone and we are only left with the itune videos to play over and over and over again…I think Adam should host his own TV show and give us a new song every week. He could be the next Oprah only he would have to sing to us….

lisak | 5/26/2009, 11:20 pm EST

Adam is the most creative, refreshing, exciting performer ever on idol (or most other places for that matter). Interpreting great songs has always been a hallmark of great singers and Adam is one of them.

I hope his record company helps hook him up with some other great musicians to create new music too.

Sherry | 5/26/2009, 11:21 pm EST

Just noticed that post by gwennie…you totally miss the point about the powerful pull Adam has on both sexes of any age…to each her own with regards to how you heard his voice, but I completely get the Elvis references, and who cares who Elvis was in to or who Adam is into? We all comment on how hot Adam is because he simply is a hot, sexy, beautiful man…period. Your crude reference on rock is simply crass and not worth responding to.

smokeyvera | 5/26/2009, 11:23 pm EST

Adam, wonderboy, superstar, sexy, provacative, talented, amazing, This young man reaches the hearts of people from 18 months to 80. Look at the Paisley video who has to get her Adam fix daily and kisses the screen that has Adam on it. Men like him, women adore him, Nobody cares about his sexual proclivity – they care about Adam – uber boy extraordinaire, superstar that raptures us. I have to get my Adam fix daily. Whether it be a powerful ballad, or that Rock and Roll wallop, his lower and medium register, his high register, his sexy stuff esies Ring of Fire. We all know what those are. Loved Ring of Fire, but my personal favorites are Feeling good and If I can’t have you, his studio version is haunting. Adam LOL, you will be a superstar!!!!!!!!!!!!

endywood | 5/26/2009, 11:25 pm EST

Thanks for this. Watching him in some of his pre-Idol stuff has made me like him even more (like Upright Cabaret) and he’s so respectful and articulate in every interview. And I love that he’s not caving into media pressure to discuss his sexuality.

Marg | 5/26/2009, 11:35 pm EST

Every week I watched Adam perform and wondered.. what is a superstar doing in such a silly show?

cyril | 5/26/2009, 11:41 pm EST

Thank you Jeff, for you post at 7:18. It’s ridiculous to call any of these “Idols” rock stars. It’s high level karaoke, I agree. None of these singers have ever had an original thought, and even all of their covers have already been covered. Adams’ version of Ring of Fire had already been done on another talent show.
Also, do you hear the hysteria in some of these people. Do they have lives? Kissing the TV? I love music, but I have allot going on every week. Some of these people are scary. I need to read a Kris Allen blog, and see if his fans sound less CRAZY!

Minnie | 5/26/2009, 11:44 pm EST

I am a conservative mother of three, and cannot get enough of Adam’s amazing vocals, gracious attitude and beautiful smile. I wish you all the luck and love in the world. You bring a smile to my face, you have the power to touch many.

ADAMsingsTomorrow | 5/26/2009, 11:50 pm EST

HEY ADAM sings tomorrow on Regis and Kelly show! ABC be sure to watch!!!

anna in vegas | 5/27/2009, 12:05 am EST

Jeff @ 7:18….stay tuned. E19 has already removed pre-Idol songs written by Adam from his MySpace! Which means they are probably gonna be on his CD. Adam “writes” as well as performs if you knew what you were talking about.

Jordana @ 8:15: Disgusting isn’t it that those votes were not disqualified. AI needs to get rid of Telescope for allowing that travesty. Or better yet, get rid of all the Adam fans who know a great artist who really won! I will not watch Idol next year due to this. Go Adam, show them who the winner is!!!

lynn | 5/27/2009, 12:05 am EST

I voted for Kris because he had the only original cover song of the whole season, Heartless. Adam’s versions of Ring of Fire and mad world had both already been done. Kris is a great singer for people who don’t like scream singers. Also, he’s cuter.

anna | 5/27/2009, 12:12 am EST

BTW….Jeff and Cyril: You both definitely belong on a Kris site. Be prepared for some boring stuff. While you are there tell them he should say nice things about Adam as the reverse, since he never does. Let’s continue this discussion in about a year, ok?

lynn | 5/27/2009, 12:24 am EST

Whoa….anna….this is a Rolling Stone site, not an Adam site. Cyril and Jeff don’t have to like Adam. I don’t like Adam either or, more correctly, I should say that I don’t like Adam’s singing. He screams at the top of his lungs. That’s boring to me.
Now, Kris’s version of Kanye West’s Heartless, That was exciting.

Mira | 5/27/2009, 12:30 am EST

Great interview RS! Adam is just amazing, I love him!

Chris | 5/27/2009, 12:32 am EST

Not only is Adam a talented musician, but it’s been a pleasure to know what an articulate, insightful, and thankful man he is. His interviews are always something special.

David Niel | 5/27/2009, 12:38 am EST

What a stud this guy is! And, he’s the kind of artist that we’ve been missing for at least two decades. The world is SO READY for a male rock star with an edge, some glam, moves, and that amazing voice! I REALLY hope he gets some good material and kick ass producers and blows our minds right out of the shoot! That would be SO COOL! Rock ON ADAM!!!!

jc | 5/27/2009, 12:46 am EST

lynn, honey, Kris is a very talented young man but his rendition of “Heartless” was not very original. You can find dozens of acoustic versions all over youtube. The only original version of a song I heard all season was Lambert’s “Tracks of My Tears.” I will gladly view a video if someone can provide a similar version. If you read the article you will see that Adam gave credit to Dilana for her rendition. Stop trying to justify Kris’ win and go support him on iTunes.

David Niel | 5/27/2009, 12:46 am EST

In response to the people that think all rock stars write and produce their own stuff and that “performers” — especially Idol — are just karaoke singers and no more — to you folks, you are WAY out of touch because the greatest rock stars of all time/bands have gotten in the psychies of its fans — have captured imaginations, and hearts… and it wasn’t JUST about writing or producing or even singing. It was way more “chemical” than that. For anyone that hasn’t seen the huge impact Adam has had on not only the show, but on millions of other onlookers, you seem: stupid, out of touch, or musically dogmatic, because the fact is Adam dug way into the minds and hearts of tens of millions of people, in a way never seen on Idol and frankly in the music industry for a long, long time!

Phoebe | 5/27/2009, 12:49 am EST

Not only is Adam Lambert a phenominal singer/entertainer, he’s also a phenominal human being. He is going to be the only International Superstar ever to be “produced” by American Idol. People are nuts about this guy and that pandemoneum is only going to grow when he tours 50 cities this summer and performs live. America and the World can’t get enough of Adam Lambert. He is the whole package. And yes, I’m a straight Christian woman in her 30’s who lives in the deep south and I could care less about his orientation. And yes, I know what his orientation is.

Margaret | 5/27/2009, 1:05 am EST

History is repeating itself in an almost eerie way. 1956, an entertainer hits the music scene:
-He lost a talent contest before making it big, placing 2nd.
-He’s known for sultry looks, swinging hips and dynamic vocals
-Critics slam him for his “appaling lack of musicality”, “vulgarity” and “animalism”
-The Catholic Church takes up the cause in a story entitled “Beware Elvis Presley” saying he will corrupt America’s youth
-He performed black rhythm and blues for white audiences during a time of prejudice
-NBC threatened to cancel his appearances due to “pressure” from religous groups
-He wore flambouyant costumes on stage
-He lived a non-traditional lifestyle
-He became the King of Rock ‘n Roll and a Music Icon.
The parallels are remarkable. It’s taken 50 years but Adam Lambert is the successor…He is this generation’s Elvis Presley.

Scott | 5/27/2009, 1:06 am EST

“Apologies to Daughtry and Cook”
Umm, Mr. Sheiefeld, have you ever heard of the word “potential.” I would hardly call a national tour in “Wicked” the stuff rock star is made of. When Mr. Lambert (who is mad-talented – no argument there)actually becomes a star, much less “rock star,” you can make this statement. Meantime, Mr. Daughtry & his band are most certainly rockers and they’re nearly 5 x platinum. Mr. Cook and his band went platinum in 4 months and are on a year long sold out tour. I think AI already produced 2 real rock stars.

Josh | 5/27/2009, 1:07 am EST

Has Rolling Stone magazine editors completely lost their minds? Adam’s last gig was as an understudy in the L.A. company of “Wicked”. What kind of rock star is that? This magazine is not what it used to be if you think Broadway actors are better than real rockers like Daughtry and Cook.

AS | 5/27/2009, 1:11 am EST

Rolling Stone just loves my boy.ADAM U ROCK MY MAD WORLD!!!

Lisa | 5/27/2009, 1:13 am EST

Adam, I hope that you can read some of these to know how much you are truly LOVED. I love everything about you — your amazing and beautiful voice and interpretations of songs, your incredible fashion sense and style, your irresistible and wonderful personality, and your drop-dead gorgeous hot sexiness. You can be who you want to be and love who you want to love and your fans won’t care because we love you. What am I going to do now that you will not be on my television with one of your mesmerizing performances on Tuesdays, though? Now that American Idol is finished, I feel like you’ve spoiled and addicted me and now I’m having to quit cold turkey (actually no, since I’ve watched at least a dozen videos of you today). You will be a legend — this I know, and your legions of fans will be there to support you.

Love you, Adam!!

Real Rock Fan | 5/27/2009, 1:17 am EST

Rolling Stone, you used to be a well-respected magazine. Now you’re the laughing stock of the Rock Music World.

Wait a year and see what Adam Lambert is doing musically before you say he is a true rock star or not. Right now, all I see is a very good singer/actor playing the roll of a rock star on a reality tv show.

damon | 5/27/2009, 1:17 am EST

God..he is NOT a rock singer at all..
who write this??MORON???
he just a showguy who love to scream..
Do you actually know what rock is?
Daughtry and David Cook is a rock singer from idol.If you listen to David Cook pre-idol album(Analog Heart),you know what i mean..and did you watch Adam pre-idol music??
he only does theater show and that is who he is..he dress like a rock star but he ain’t a rock star at all..next time please get the fact right first before you published something I called RUBBISH!!!!

Jennifer | 5/27/2009, 1:25 am EST

Scott, yes, you will find Daughtry and David Cook’s albums in the “Rock” bin. But neither of these gentlemen are as engaging or vocally talented as Mr. Lambert. Even you should know that selling records does not automatically make you a star. Adam has made me and many others excited about music again.

KAREN | 5/27/2009, 1:26 am EST

“Apologies to Daughtry and Cook”???
You know what..those two is the best rock singer that AI ever produced.
Yes,they even rock out in the band even BEFORE the idol things..Adam??he never was a rock singer..he only does theater show..
if he produced a rock album after this, that would be completely NEW THINGS to him..
What happen to the journalist nowadays??they keep on writing something stupid are far from the real fact..shame on you!!

olive Yau | 5/27/2009, 1:29 am EST

Wow, from 15 months old baby to 90 years old grannies! From America to all over the world in 3 short months – Adam touches us all! One world, one life for all to share!

Summer | 5/27/2009, 1:29 am EST

I have come to makeshift peace about the outcome of American Idol mostly because I would rather spend my time looking forward to all the great things Adam is going to give us (hopefully very soon!) than mourn what could have been. However, what still angers me is that he was always held to a higher standard than any other contestant because of his amazing talent. He was so far ahead of the pack that he wasn’t competiting with anyone but himself. People complained that he wasn’t showing enough “growth” when in fact his growth couldn’t even be graphed because he broke the dang chart! I will always find it hard to swallow that the most charismatic, talented contestant ever in the show’s history was essentially punished and lost because he was the best.

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 1:30 am EST

Jeff, you obviously know nothing about Adam Lambert – he’s being doing his own thing in LA, had his own band, performance art, etc. and just went on idol to break into the biz.

joe | 5/27/2009, 1:30 am EST

Jeff, you obviously know nothing about Adam Lambert – he’s being doing his own thing in LA, had his own band, performance art, etc. and just went on idol to break into the biz.

Stephen | 5/27/2009, 1:48 am EST

The Fray did a cover of Heartless. They did the original interpretation of the Kayne song that Kris used as the basis for his performance.

Mary | 5/27/2009, 1:51 am EST

Rolling Stone…you were already losing cred in my eyes anyway…..but calling Adam GLAMbert the first legitimate rock star out of AI, just sealed the deal. You most definitley SHOULD apologize to David Cook and Chris Daughtry, who are way more RocknRoll than Adam will ever be. He’s a performer with a voice that is apparently very appealing to some (I like it okay when it’s moderated, not screeching)…..but others don’t find it so appealing. And I’d NEVER put him in the same category of any of my Rock idols…like Bruce Springsteen or Bono. He’s like a 21st century Freddy Mercury, and guess what, it’s been done. But with the popularity of overrated singers like Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry, he should fit right in to the current POP scene. Get real. This guy has talent…but a rocker he is NOT.

Mark | 5/27/2009, 1:53 am EST

Shame on you for trashing real rockers like Daughtry and Cook that write their own music. I’m not sure who this Adam guy is, but since you dissed a rocker that sold a 5x platinum album, your fable is not believable.

Stephen | 5/27/2009, 1:55 am EST

Adam should have won but will probably be better off now than Kris because he can now rule his own destiny.

Mari | 5/27/2009, 2:02 am EST

Congrats adam!! you’re such a gentleman and talented.

Ellis | 5/27/2009, 2:26 am EST

MARK, get a grip. Chris Daughtrey was a country singer who realised there was greater international potential in the rock genre. David Cook, well, it’s interesting that Adam’s musical background kept being dragged up when David’s is the same.

JEFF, so Adam doesn’t write his own songs? When has a contestant on AI ever been allowed to perform their own songs? Never. So how would you know to comment?

As for outdoing Led Zeppelin, no judge said that. Don’t twist what people say for your own purpose.

Glorified karaoke singers? Do have a word with yourself. Your snobbery is precious.

It can’t be helped that the people of Arkansas trod all over a chance that this show had of a credible winner.

Michelle N. | 5/27/2009, 2:28 am EST

AHHH! Why did the interview end there?
He’s intelligent, articulate, personable, charismatic, but most importantly, he has THE voice. That Godlike, hypnotic, perfectly precise voice. I love it. Can’t ever get enough of the fabulous Adam Lambert. It’s no coincidence that Adam got into theater the year Freddie Mercury died. There’s your Freddie reincarnation right there!

Lucy | 5/27/2009, 2:33 am EST

It really grates on me when people keep asking or discussing what could have possibly happened that caused Adam not to win.

How many times does the 40% of the vote put in by Arkansas (38% of it for Kris) have to be mentioned before it sinks in? It’s not a rumour. The Speaker of the House was the first to mention it to the local media after being given the information by AT&T. AT&T have not denied it. They have just said that they are “unable to confirm” = “No comment”. It was reported by the local media and was all over the net by early morning on Wednesday. It remains on the web pages of some local newspapers for Wednesday and Kris’ Arkansas fans are naive enough to still be boasting on his site about what they did.

Alicia | 5/27/2009, 2:34 am EST

Jeeeeeez! “Rock fans” …….. Rock stars are not so up themselves that they won’t appear on this show.

Take a cue from them and get over yourselves.

Mike | 5/27/2009, 2:39 am EST

Ok a dude here checking in to say that I like Lambert. Reminds me of Tyler, Mercury with some Jagger mixed in. Definately consider Lambert to be a rocker. Cook and Daughtry are more standard rock. Lambert is more glam-rock. Still I don’t think Rolling Stone is too far off. I’m predicting Lambert will be the most successful AI contestant ever.

Katrina | 5/27/2009, 2:44 am EST

Adam Lambert is the most talked about person in the music industry right now. Period.

tij | 5/27/2009, 2:58 am EST

I think no matter how many times you repeat this same season again and again, Adam Lambert will never win American Idol because he is “different.” Adam Lambert is the type that likes to shock America because he is different. Most of America will never see his gift eye-to-eye, they will only see the things about Adam that shock them, thus causing America to vote for what is safe vote.

Adam Lambert is the David Bowie of the 70s, Elvis Presley of 60s, Freddie Mercury of the 70s, and My Chemical Romance of the 2000’s.

cyril | 5/27/2009, 3:22 am EST

So typical…..all Adam fans think that anyone who doesn’t like Adam, is a big homophobe. You claim we don’t like him because he’s gay. Wake up. We don’t like him because we think he sings badly…..whiny, over-emotive,overwrought, too high pitched, to theatrical, too squealy, and without any depth or resonance.
His voice sounds thin.
You insist that we should all love him for his talent, and ignore his sexuality, but whenever we hate him for his lack of talent (in our opinion) you immediately say it’s because we hate gays. You can’t have it both ways.
I live and work with gay men, and I couldn’t care less who Adam dates. I hate his voice, I hate all the drama in his act. I like Kris Allens voice, and I like his pared down approach to music. End of story.

Rolling Stone U guys should do a adam lambert cover story,I just cannot get enough of him.

Jessie | 5/27/2009, 3:37 am EST

Thanks Rolling Stone for doing an article on this articulate, sensitive, intelligent, passionate, unique artist. Adam is just fascinating. Everything about him is fascinating…his looks, his voice, his personality, his style, his outlook on life and on the music business. Adam is going to have the kind of impact that changes the music industry, much like Elvis, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones did back in the day. In one interview he was gushing about how much he loves Madonna and how she would be his ideal person to collaborate with. He’s so sweet that he has no idea, he’s going to be BIGGER than Madonna. I don’t think the reality of how huge he’s going to be and the type of impact he’s going to have has really hit him yet. Hang on Adam, you’re in for one heck of a ride!

Susan | 5/27/2009, 3:42 am EST

Adam won by losing. I think he’s actually the most loved person in America right now. He’s all anybody is talking about. His official web site, adamofficial, crashed tonight because it didn’t have the bandwidth to support all the people flooding it and signing up. Nearly 15,000 people in less than a week. It’s Adam’s world and we’re all just living in it.

DVary | 5/27/2009, 3:44 am EST

So, when’s the cover story coming out? This boy can sell. I couldn’t even find the Entertainment Weekly cover on the stands. Hands down the most fascinating, talented and vocally superb contestant ever to appear on Idol.

Queenfanforever! | 5/27/2009, 4:03 am EST

It`s funny to see how people fight -> it`s like “my mom makes better food that yours” really…
I Love this guy, when i listen or see him performing it`s like he`s been put a spell on me! And yeah i love Zeppelin, queen, The Stones and so on… But now i also love Adam!!!
Rock singer -> maybe is/not… But every rock singer needs also a really good band behind them. And when you say he`s not writing he`s own songs… Do you know him REALLY!! But We`ll see what happends and i hope that you trashers eat your words.
Adam has never said that he`s a rock singer, he has said that he loves rockers ( Zeppelin, Queen …)but also said that the new album probably wont be “rock” album, because he want`s to do something which is not only one genre.
And about he`s voice, we all our own opinions on what is a good voice! And the end When people talks about you, you are on top but when it`s quiet you have to be worried about it…

To Ellis that write..”so Adam doesn’t write his own songs? When has a contestant on AI ever been allowed to perform their own songs? Never. So how would you know to comment?”
JEFF means that Daughtry and David Cook already write their own song and have their own band even long before the idol..David Cook for example already have a solo album before idol(Analog Heart)fully written by him, solid rock album and has been in two rock band “AXIUM” and “Midwest King”..he write his own material..Adam just sing with other band not his band..he has no band..and write no song..so get it?

don | 5/27/2009, 4:28 am EST

Adam Lambert and Citizen Vein..that is not his band..he have no band..he just sing with them lol..

blake | 5/27/2009, 4:54 am EST

You most definitely SHOULD apologize to David Cook and Chris Daughtry…
Adam is definitely not a rock singer..

Missy | 5/27/2009, 4:59 am EST

Ellis: David Cook, well, it’s interesting that Adam’s musical background kept being dragged up when David’s is the same.

Huh??? uh, hardly. David did some musical theater in high school, but he started in his own rock band at age 15, Axium, and has been writing and playing his own music for years, before going on AI. Put out one independent rock indie album, Analog Heart, and had another one ready to go when he went into AI. Wrote or co-wrote 10 out of 13 songs on his new album. His background is completely different from Adam’s, which is mostly musical theater, by his own admission. Let’ just get the facts straight. These guys would not consider themselves like each other artistically, except they are both great talents with nice personalities. But David is a true rocker.

Kar | 5/27/2009, 5:47 am EST

Ohh, shiny!

I wonder if RS will still be supporting him in a year’s time.

Sunn | 5/27/2009, 6:10 am EST

Many many congrats Adam on your well deserved fame. You’re the most talented and fascinating music artist I’ve laid eyes upon since Cobain.
I wish you the very best and wait breathlessly for your first album. Don’t make me wait too long.

Rolling Stone, how about that Adam Cover feature I’m waiting for?

sarah | 5/27/2009, 6:27 am EST

Adam is already a star. His album of performances is number 2 on the itunes chart (Kris is number 6). His youtube video with Kiss had well over 1 million hits before it was taken down yesterday and his “demo” clip is closing on 2.5 million. His original songs on youtube are now over half a million views and fast climbing (and he wrote them!). I like Kris and feel sorry for him. The good people of Arkansas did him no favors by putting him in this position and from the look in his eyes he already knows it. I wish him all the best .

I never thought id see the day where the next Elvis presley came about -BUT ITS HERE!!!! Its name is Adam Lambert!!!!!!!!!!! Holy cow, this guy is GORGEOUS beyond words, sexy, kind, classy, and can sing like no other, hes the best thing that ever came out of idol its too bad they didnt realize it and made the boy next door win, lets face it kris allen won because Idol cant go with the times but has to be safe-Adam you will be a worldwide Star in whatever genre you decide to take on, i see you as the Elvis Presley of this time, you are amazing, talented and god such a beautiful hot man……love you in Buffalo

blake | 5/27/2009, 6:31 am EST

lol…david cook got 6 MILLIONS hits with Billie Jean last year before it was taken down..beat that..

del | 5/27/2009, 7:23 am EST

After being prodded by Seacrest on ‘Larry King Live’
monday, Adam confirmed that Queen has asked him to perform with them and that he doesn’t know what to do because he does not have time for the summer Idol tour and joining Queen (plus making his album, though he didn’t say that).

For all of you questioning whether Adam is perceived as a rock star and whether Rolling Stone is out of line…well maybe you should look to what Brian May has done – he’s asked Adam to perform with Queen as the frontman. Is Queen real rock enough for you?

LisaH | 5/27/2009, 8:06 am EST

Thank you, Rolling Stone, for more excellent coverage of Adam. He and Kelly and the best things to come out of that cheesy show. Don’t get me wrong, I am entertained by AI, but I don’t normally expect to ever listen to music from the contestants again after it ends. Not the case with Adam Lambert — can’t wait for new music, solo tours, media appearances, anything Adam!!

Anonymous | 5/27/2009, 8:47 am EST

But i think now all the ” he`s not a rock singer” people say, that Bryan May sucks..? And What about the Slash, maybe he sucks too??
They see that guy is something special… Yeah this guy is not Freddie, Mick Jagger … But i thinks he has lot of edge!
I think still lot of hates comes because he has theatrical backround, and he`s gay ( SO FUCKING WHAT!), luckily these stars are not so narrow mindeds…
I think the GLAM rock lives now the last years really, and that is really shame because i love real Rock and Roll! But when you look these new rockers NO!!
But that would be wondefull opportunity learn from the best…
But i am ready to hear what Adam will going to do and i cant`t wait for he`s album!!!
And that kind of stage present and voice, i am sold!
And i never before watched AI before Adam came in…

CRG | 5/27/2009, 9:26 am EST

I actually like Adam but there is nothing “rock” about him. All he’s done is THEATER. How is that rock? Daughtry = rock? Check. David Cook = rock? Check. I’m really baffled by this Adam = rock sex God thing. You guys need to go to a Daughtry or Cook concert to see some rock God action. I knew once you guys put the JoBros on the cover that all rock cred for your mag was lost. Don’t think I’ll be renewing my subscription again.

Kim | 5/27/2009, 9:51 am EST

Thanks for the interview RS – how about that cover and in-depth article next?
Adam, you have the vocal ability, imagination, creativity and stage presence to reach the top. Along with countless others who saw your potentional from the moment you appeared on our screens, I’ll be coming along for the ride and supporting your career in whatever way I can. Stay positive and never stop believing in yourself.

tij | 5/27/2009, 9:56 am EST

Adam Lambert is an OPERA-ROCK singer like Freddie Mercury of Queen, Gerard of My Chemical Romance and the opera-rock singers of JCS.

I thought this was obvious the first time you heard Adam’s voice. It was as if Freddie Mercury was born again.

Even Gene Simmons said so: “Adam is a great singer. He would be great in Queen. Like Freddie Mercury. But Mercury wouldn’t work in the Stones or KISS. Nor would Mick Jagger work in Queen. Got it?”

justthefacts | 5/27/2009, 10:19 am EST

I’m looking forward to see what kind of album 19 lets Adam put out. I hope he isn’t Bo Biced.

Some interesting chart numbers:

Kris plus Adam’s combined digital sales over 7 days (859,581)

David Cook’s with 4 days of digital sales (942,000) in 2008

Mary | 5/27/2009, 10:48 am EST

Adam Lambert is a true artist and musician. Since when is it a crime to be classically trained? You can still be a rock singer and have a background in musical theatre, it just means that this guys knows how to use his voice and maintain it so he won’t burn out in five years. I think it’s fantastic to be flexible in your own art. Whether you like it or not, rock has been shifting since it began. Music is not meant to fit into neat little boxes: it’s an art form. Adam is creative and driven to do something different to challenge the audience…every rock great rock artist strives to do that (The Beatles, The Who, Queen, The Rolling Stones…etc).

wannabeMRSGlambert | 5/27/2009, 11:02 am EST

I can’t help but put in my opinion. I LOVE Adam…but I am starting to get worried: ( I think that although Adam can Rock it if he wants too..I don’t think he is a Rock Singer – however if he did go that route Queen would be the best way to go…but I think Adam likes the dance – pop stuff…I have listened to a couple of songs he wrote before idol and they are very pop rock sounding..and at Upright Caberet he performed Bonnie Raitt, Gnarls Barkley, Five for Fighting, Four nonBlondes etc…I think the media has “rocked” him out so to speak. I think he worked with what he had on Idol but we haven’t seen the true Adam yet. I hope hope hope he does something between “A Change is Gonna Come” (which it sounds like he wants to kind of do ) and “I just love you” – at least on his first album – he can go crazy with second by then he will have more experience and probably even more fans. I think Kris will do well because I have heard some of his stuff he wrote and it’s pretty good..a lot better than some artists that’s for sure that are on now. I am ADAM all the way and will buy whatever he comes out with – I just hope people’s expectations aren’t going in the “rock” direction…I don’t think even Adam wants that

I agree with MARGARET. Adam will be as big as Elvis.
I hope Rolling Stones puts Adam on the cover soon. You will make lots of money, too. Thank God, my sister gets EW in the mail, because it was sold out the week Adam was on the cover.

Adam doing “SLOW RIDE”, “WHOLE LOTTA LOVE”, singing with KISS and then QUEEN=ROCK STAR!! Go Adam. We can’t wait to hear and see you soon.

Sheri | 5/27/2009, 11:07 am EST

To Ellis: Do you have a clue what you are talking about? You say that Chris Daughtry was a country singer before Idol, where did you get your information? Chris was in two rock bands prior to Idol…Cadence and Absent Element. If you bothered to check your information before posting you would see that in no way was Chris ever a country singer. Both these bands were pure rock!

As for Adam, who cares if he lost…he doesn’t. I’m not a big fan of his vocals but I am sure he will do well in the industry. As someone said earlier, it really is pathetic that people don’t have anything better to do than cry over a stupid reality show!

Linda | 5/27/2009, 11:17 am EST

I like Adam but am not crazy when he does his over the top vocals. Even Adam has credited David Cook as showing him that it would be possible to make it on the show since David didn’t always go for the obvious song choice. Cook was truly original in his song choices, arrangements (and yes he did several of his own), interpretation and guitar playing. So please don’t dismiss him that easily since he’d been playing in bands for 10 years and writing his own songs as well so I’d definitely say he’s a true rocker.

EM | 5/27/2009, 11:18 am EST

Adam a rock singer?

Absolutely. Please check out the Citizen Vein… the real live rock band he has fronted.

On youtube. Some of my favorite adam stuff.

Mar | 5/27/2009, 11:25 am EST

Adam has stage presence, star quality and a powerhouse voice. But it’s very premature to hear people calling him Elvis’ or Freddie’s reincarnation!! It’s like over-pimping him all over again!!! (Over-pimping can hurt him, remember?)

He DOES have enormous potential, I just rather wait for his album before declaring him anything other than a fantastic Idol contestant.

mom_shell | 5/27/2009, 11:28 am EST

RS never dissapoints, way to go with this article, hope I see something deeper about Adam on my mag when it reaches my mail box! American Idol played it safe, but those who know and understand about music are backing up the real deal: Adam Lambert! Can’t wait to see what his record is about, I expect it to be better than great.

David Cook is good.

Daughtry is coo, even though we had to wait 2 hours before is concert started when he came to Ventura.

Kris is a sweet guy who will have a certain fanbase.

But dude, check this out – Adam is fricken DOPE!

I don’t care if he does rock, glam-rock, blues, techno, country, sings in Spanish or WHATEVER! He is going to take over not just the US but the world with whatever it is he decides to do. He’s got just that many fans…already! I am am member of a few different Adam fansites and I can tell you he already has fans in other countries.

He’s got young, old, white, black, democrat, republican, fat, skinny, gay, straight, married, single, men and women. Dude…what more can you say.

Regardless, he’s got a fan in me for life and I wish him nothing but success…whatever the ‘genre’ or ‘classification’.

Jo | 5/27/2009, 12:38 pm EST

WOW! I guess you all missed the message Adam & Kris kept saying – — Can’t we all get along?

If you like Adam’s singing or not, he DID get people talking and all with a 1:30 performance each week.

I happen to be a fan of Adam and feel that we have only seen a tiny fraction of what he can do. We’ll have to wait and see what he comes up with to “stir the pot”.

glambert#1883 | 5/27/2009, 12:39 pm EST

Adam deserves a cover on RS!
He is not only a huge talent but he exudes positive energy. I hope he never changes!

Sue | 5/27/2009, 1:12 pm EST

I think that we should just let Adam be Adam. He knows what he wants to do, and be. He’s alternative…not Heavy Metal, or Classic Rock. His voice is what it is. He doesn’t need to sound like anyone then Adam, and still make a fortune. I grew up listening to Rock. Queen has always been one of my very favorites. Freddie and Adam’s voice are very similar. He could front quite well for Queen. I do agree he needs his own cover on RS. He’s too beautiful not to.

john | 5/27/2009, 1:22 pm EST

Citizen Vein is not Adam’s band..
He never mentioned it either..he just sing a couple of song with the band..that’s it..

karen | 5/27/2009, 1:46 pm EST

I find it funny that people keep bringing up Cook and comparing him to Adam. I think Adam is a much better singer and performer than Cook. I find Cook rather boring.
I think most people will eventually find Cook rather boring. I’m not really impressed with his writing.

I’ve heard Adam say in an interview that he has performed with a band and done some writing.

Adam will do well he is so versatile!

Obsidian Eye | 5/27/2009, 1:50 pm EST

HEY Jeff of the first comment on this article!! Adam HAS written music, ROCK music. Find “CRAWL THROUGH THE FIRE” somewhere like youtube or limewire, OKAY? And he DOES plan to write the music for his first album. This guy’s read loads of intelligent books in his lifetime and is most likely more literate than you!! And “glorified Karaoke singers with stylists”, you say? I don’t give a flying f*ck about other AI alumni, but if you can’t hear and recognize Adam’s genuine and serious vocal talent, you must have a ton of gooey earwax clogging your stinky ears. Also, FYI, the judge did NOT say Adam ‘outdid’ Led Zeppelin–she said something roughly along the lines of “how can someone improve on Led Zeppelin…but you’re just PERFECT”. Furthermore, artists do cover other artists. It’s been happening for decades now, in case you haven’t noticed. You might have appeared smarter in your post had you stated that Rolling Stone’s being premature, given that Adam has yet to release an album. However, a flat-out denial of ADAM’s SERIOUS TALENT AND MEGASTAR CHARISMA, just makes you look sophomoric and undiscerning – you’re probably bathing in the nostalgic glow of a PAST Golden Era, like I (STILL) AM MYSELF. However, unlike you, I have found hope in Adam Lambert – if there’s anyone who can usher in a NEW GOLDEN ERA IN ROCK or at least translate the CURRENT into present terms, for the love of your god, it’s ADAM LAMBERT. You should know better than to uncritically make general statements rather than use your critical thinking skills. THERE, you’ve made me waste time responding to your low-quality assessment. Congratulate yourself for being smarter than me for ALL OF TWO WHOLE MINUTES!!

Rolling Stone is DONE! | 5/27/2009, 1:50 pm EST

Did I really just read that Adam Lambert is the first rock star out of idol? That is a joke. He is a tool who wishes he was a rocker. Come on Rolling Stone enough with this Adam love. I would bet most of those who purchase your magazine, like myself, don’t watch or care about a damn karaoke contest. American Idol sucks and no true person who cares and love rock would ever consider being on the show.

I am done with Rolling Stone. You guys are now a joke.

Lesleigh | 5/27/2009, 1:55 pm EST

LOL…I was watching a Burt Sugarman’s “Midnight Special” infommercial, last night – and I have to say that if America could just re-visit the wild costumes/make-up and other stuff that David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, Elton John, KISS (well, they wore the same outfits during the AI Finale), Aerosmith, et al wore during their appearances on that late-night showcase – they would think that what Adam Lambert wore & did, this year on American Idol was T-A-M-E !!! I just couldn’t believe all the Anti-Adam fearmongering going on in the Bible-Belt, this season…just because of superb/experienced showmanship of this exceptionally-talented singer! All my best to dear, humble Kris Allen (he will do just fine as the “American” Idol)…but the truth be told – Adam Lambert was crowned “World Idol” MONTHS ago! ROCK ON ADAM !

Obsidian Eye | 5/27/2009, 1:58 pm EST

GLORY, GLORY, GLORY BE TO THE GLORIOUS LAMBERT OF GOD/GODDESS!! HA!

HA-HA. You people are delusional and really a waste of life. Go plant a tree, donate all the money you use texting to a good cause.

What is really funny is this dude sings a song someone else wrote and you wet yourself over it?

Oh even better…Adam bigger than Elvis. Please get a life. ROFLMAO. I am so happy I do not watch American Idol. Look what it does to people.

Rolling Stone is DONE! | 5/27/2009, 2:00 pm EST

Oh and Jeff….I am with you dude…I am with you.

cowell | 5/27/2009, 2:01 pm EST

ahh..well..
for the first step..David Cook still ahead of those two..they both still didn’t managed to break his record..
for “ACCIDENTAL IDOL”,that would be AWESOME!!David Cook still rules!..at least for another year..
yeah, even the “ROCK GOD” can’t beat it with his “AWESOME” idol single lol..

Kris Allen: 468,101 (10 Songs)
Top 100: 438,727 (7 songs in Top 100)
Adam Lambert: 358,912 (13 songs) Top 100: 254,246 (5 songs in Top 100)

David Cook: 942,000(14 song)with 11 SONGS in Top 100..(LAST YEAR RECORD)..
even if you added Adam and Kris numbers it still won’t match David Cook’s number..

for now..David Cook still the WINNER!
I think you should apologize to DC and Daughtry for this RUBBISH article..RS..KEEP ON ROLLING BULLSHIT!

Dan | 5/27/2009, 2:13 pm EST

Damn…Idol fans are disturbing.

This guy is no more a “rock star” than Lady Gaga or Katy Perry. Does he have the potential to be a pop star? Absolutely. I can totally see him as the male version of either of them.

This whole second coming of Elvis, Freddie, Christ himself is typical Idol craziness though. I’m surprised RS is buying into it.

52 y/o conservative Christian | 5/27/2009, 2:54 pm EST

So… they both win!! Kris Allen is the new American Idol, Adam Lambert is the next American ICON. Adam, I hope you and your family are extremely proud. I don’t care what your sexuality or your religious preferences are, I just want to hear you sing!! I hope you hurry and get that first CD out to us soon!!

PS… I LOVED Ring of Fire!!

Obsidian Eye | 5/27/2009, 3:00 pm EST

In the same way that Adam’s fan base rampagingly charges through a wide and wildly colorful swath in demographics and geography, so shall he conquer the music world. He is an ARTIST, in the true sense of the word, UNLIMITED BY GENRE STEREOTYPES AND LIMITATIONS AS TO FORM, CONTENT, STYLE, AND SENSIBILITY. HE WILL DARE TO EXPERIMENT INSTEAD OF RELYING ON HOOKS AND FORMULAS, PUSH INCESSANTLY AGAINST RULES AND BOUNDARIES, THRILL US WITH JARRING JUXTAPOSITIONS, ASTONISH US AGAIN AND AGAIN, KEEP US SPELLBOUND. “ROCK STAR”? NOT JUST! HE’S GOT THE MAGNETISM-MAGNITUDE OF A ROCK STAR, BUT HE’LL BE MORE THAN THAT! And while Daughtry has sold a lot of records, he just doesn’t have “IT” to even bring him within the scope of the term “Rock Star”. He’s just…droopy and drippy. Cook, on the other hand, has a permanent stake stuck in the soft spot of my heart. Love to Cook and Lambert! HAIL PAGE, PLANT, & GARCIA FOREVER!!

Obsidian Eye | 5/27/2009, 3:18 pm EST

Um, DAN, it’s NOT Idol we’re huge fans of, it’s ADAM, who happened to come to our attention via Idol.
Let’s face it, the music industry muck needs a savior, a hero, a mythical god…the fact that these Jonas kids appeared on the cover of RS just proves this point, right?
We need our dope, our jones, I NEED TO “GET MY KICKS BEFORE THE WHOLE SH*THOUSE GOES UP IN FLAMES”, ALRIGHT? ALRIGHT!! ADAM BOTH SATISFIES AND LEAVES US WANTING MORE. HAIL MORRISON!!

devin | 5/27/2009, 4:04 pm EST

Awww I love Adam. He’s such a Wonderful and talented guy. Thanks for the great interview!

Liz | 5/27/2009, 4:45 pm EST

Im not going to try and start a fight but what some people do not realize is that Adam hasnt done just AI. He’s been a part of 2 LA Broadway shows and he sounds COMPLETELY different than he ever did on Idol. His range and ability to sing has come from having to sing parts for two shows a night. Broadway is hard to do people. I found Kris to sound like a lot of songs out there right now and he’ll have a lot of competition getting his stuff out there. If people paid attention to the article they would see that he doesnt want to be labeled as just a rockstar but someone that branches out and pushes genre boundaries. This wasnt a RS ARTICLE people, it was an INTERVIEW.

Obsidian Eye | 5/27/2009, 4:52 pm EST

“What is really funny is this dude sings a song someone else wrote and you wet yourself over it?” – LMAO, WHOEVER THE HELL WROTE THIS!!! now SONGWRITING IS THE ONLY THING?!! DUH!! BASED ON YOUR LAUGHABLE “LOGIC” WE’RE ALLOWED TO APPRECIATE ONLY SONGWRITERS WHO SING OR PERFORM, AND ONLY COMPOSITIONS OF THEIR OWN?? WHAT HOGWASH!! I THINK IT’D DO WELL TO FIRST AND FOREMOST ACQUAINT YOURSELVES WITH AAALLLL OF ADAM’S PERFORMANCES. THEN FIGURE OUT IN WHAT SENSE AND ASPECT ROLLING STONE USED THE TERM “ROCK STAR”—THERE ARE MANY FACETS TO THE TERM, IF YOU PEOPLE HAVE ANY SENSITIVITY TO WORDS NOT JUST IN A SINGLE LITERAL SENSE. WHAT DOES THE TERM CONNOTE? IMPLY? WHAT QUALITIES ARE EVOKED BY THE TERM? HOW HAS IT BEEN USED FROM THE TIME THE VERY FIRST ONE APPEARED? ONE COULD BE PLAYING ROCK MUSIC AND BE FAMOUS BUT STILL NOT FIT THE BILL OF “ROCK STAR”–LIKE DAUGHTRY, FOR INSTANCE. GET A LIFE? DAMN, WE’RE DAMNED LIVE ELECTRICALLY CHARGED, IS WHAT. TOO BAD YOU’RE JUST…EXISTING…SITTING THERE LIKE ROCKS AND GROWING MOLD. PLANT A TREE? SURE, WHY NOT? IT’S NOT AS THOUGH WE CAN’T DO THAT WHILE LISTENING TO AN ADAM LAMBERT PERFORMANCE!!! DUH AND DUH!!!!

Obsidian Eye | 5/27/2009, 4:59 pm EST

“Get a life”– WHAT A SAD LITTLE CLICHE. What’s YOUR life like? How long does it take for you to read a short article and post a comment? Maybe very long, very veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeery loooooooooooooooooooooooong. It’s the only logical explanation for your baseless assumption that an Adam Lambert fan doesn’t have a life. Don’t ASSUME and make an ASS out of U or ME. Get a brain.

Jamie | 5/27/2009, 5:19 pm EST

So RollingStone claims Adam is a real Rockstar? What’s next RS? Will you have Andrew Lloyd Weber on your cover proclaiming him as the originator of Rock and Roll? Or will RS start including Broadway reviews of the next wave of rockstars that impress. I mean really why do you buy into the hype of a guy who is nothing more than a theatre geek only capable of being an understudy? What has happened to RollingStone Mag? I think I may be done with RS.

Me | 5/27/2009, 6:06 pm EST

So Adam wants to be like Lady GaGa and Katie Perry? Heh. Adam’s no rockstar, he’s this generation’s Liberace.

Bruce K | 5/27/2009, 6:15 pm EST

This was the only season of American Idol that has kept my family and I rivited to see what the heck Adam Lambert is going to do next. This kid is the most talented contestant to grace that stage. We are looking forward to seeing what he does next.

Opp | 5/27/2009, 6:56 pm EST

Damn he’s sexy.
Sings like an angel.
Total package.

Carrie | 5/27/2009, 7:09 pm EST

Adam is a Rock God, and I am not an Idol fan, but I am in LOVE with Adam Lambert, and I am a fan for life. He is sexy, talented, and more than gracious! He should have won Idol, but will be a big star anyway.
Go Adam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TheFutureMrsLambert | 5/27/2009, 7:10 pm EST

I love Adam! He’s amazing. What I love most about him is that he’s so comfortable with who he is. He isn’t afraid to be himself. But he knows what the crowd wants and what people are going to like and he’ll do whatever it takes. He’s amazing; I think that, in the end, he’ll end up on a sort of KISS-Queen-Zeppelin-Robert Plant-David Bowie level. I’m so excited to see what his long and successful career will bring. This guy is the shit.

Jessica | 5/27/2009, 8:09 pm EST

Adam is a rock star like the Jonas brothers because you can only be a rock star if you are in a band of less than four people that dress in suits when they perform.

Daughtry and Cook are in a band of five people, they all play instruments and they don’t wear suits when they perform. Adam doesn’t play an instrument and wears a suit so that is one of the reasons why he is a rock star. So that is why rolling stone magazine says that Adam and the Jonas brothers are worthy of rock star status. And Adam looks like Joe Jonas when he is not wearing makeup so it’s all good.

MusicLover | 5/27/2009, 8:36 pm EST

OK. Listen up. Rolling Stone: You do a cover on Adam Lambert. IT WILL SELL OUT. Millions sold, millions made. That’s just the beginning. There are Adam fans ALL OVER THE WORLD. Nuf said.

Sherri | 5/27/2009, 8:58 pm EST

Adam is so fricken cool. He’s so humble and down to earth. Not to mention extremely hot!
But he is SO talented. My gosh. There are not alot of people in this world who can sing like that. (Especially guys).
He’s gonna be a huge star!
Great interview!

danita | 5/27/2009, 9:13 pm EST

“Me” at 6:06PM wrote that Adam Lambert is this generations Liberace. That’s an insult to Liberace. At least he could play the piano. When Adam Lambert’s not making my ears bleed, the only thing he plays is bat the eyelash.

Kelly Foxx | 5/27/2009, 9:38 pm EST

Call me crazy, but he’s the next David Bowie. Disagree? Wait and see, just watch. Lambert is gonna be HUGE, iconic. There’s nobody else out there in the industry who has what he does. All you fuckers who say he’s no rockstar must be on crack. If Brian May thinks he’s awesome, then I don’t think the opinion of an unhappy blogger matters. Lambert probably doesn’t give a flying fuck what you think.

Lisa | 5/27/2009, 10:20 pm EST

I think Adam Lambert has everything going for him–he’s the complete package as an entertainer. I love him and will support him in any way I can. He’s my role model and I’m inspired by his positive attitude, kindness towards others, and humility. I can’t wait to see what he does next!

Joanne | 5/27/2009, 10:44 pm EST

I cannot get enough of Adam, can idol do a one hour special on all of his performances only.
Australia loves you Adam hope you eventually come here to perform we will be lined up to buy your tickets.

Dannan | 5/27/2009, 10:51 pm EST

Rock star? Pffft. That’s just funny. He has a gorgeous singing voice, but he ain’t no rock Strange that tis has to be pointed out to Rolling Stone.

Even more disturbing is Adam’s assumption that Kris Allen wasn’t beating him by a million votes *before* Danny got voted off. Does he know something we don’t?

Way to support your best friend, who’s all but sacrificed his victory in consideration of your loss, Adam.

Dannan | 5/27/2009, 11:08 pm EST

Rikki | 5/27/2009, 11:27 pm EST

Okay. I love Adam, but I’d also like to say something about the negative comments on this.

For all of you who are like ‘Adam sucks, he’s just a theater geek, he doesn’t even write his own songs’? Um, yeah, you’re wrong. Just like someone else said, Adam was in an alternative band, Citizen Vein. Which he was the lead singer of, and also wrote AT LEAST half the songs they released. Look it up.

And also, if your name is ‘Rolling Stone is Dead!’, why would you be on the Rolling Stone website? Seriously, if you hate Rolling Stone, get off the site. It doesn’t need you here.

That being said, if you don’t have something nice to say about Adam, just use some self-restraint and say nothing. I mean really, what possesses you people to talk shit about someone, ON THEIR OWN INTERVIEW? Really, you should have some damn respect.

So, in case you missed it…keep your shit to yourself. Because you can say a lot of things about Adam, but he knows who he is. And I can bet he’s doing better than the majority of you haters right now.

peaches | 5/27/2009, 11:31 pm EST

Adam is the most exciting thing that has happened to Idol! If you’re talking about him at all, that’s exciting! Mystery sells, and predictablity does not!

Dannan | 5/27/2009, 11:33 pm EST

Kris Allen’s arrangement of “Heartless” is an original. It doesn’t sound anything like The Fray’s. Just because it was acoustical doesn’t mean it was the same as other acoustical versions that have been done. His phrasing is way different. Get a clue.

Oh, and power texting and block voting have been going on for years with all American Idol contestants. Check out the Lambert website with power texting instructions on it. It is a non-issue. Lambert lost because heaps of people preferred a real musician who doesn’t rely on gimmickry and pimpage. Stop using the Christian/Gay-Bashing excuses. Not all of America is homophobic, ya’ know. He’s just using that as an excuse for losing.

RayLorene | 5/27/2009, 11:46 pm EST

Funny how it seems its only Kris fans that have something negative to say about Adam but Adam fans don’t cut down Kris. What’s that saying, “You can tell the tree by the fruit it bears?”

Mike in Seattle | 5/27/2009, 11:51 pm EST

It is really strange how much effort some people put into hating someone. Very strange. And totally sad for the people doing this.

Aaron | 5/27/2009, 11:55 pm EST

Adam is the bomb, enough said. To all the detractors out there who can’t “handle” him or don’t “get” him: your Idol proclaimed for the whole country to see and hear that Adam deserved to win. If you can’t believe or accept it yourself, shut up and listen to the person you voted for who questions why you did so. Enough said.

Brian May Got it, You Should 2 | 5/28/2009, 12:02 am EST

I think Brian May probably knows what he’s talking about:

“Amongst all that furor, there wasn’t really a quiet moment to talk…“But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.”

Well I guess we can all put the sexuality rumors to bed….sheesh. Talk about the ambiguously gay duo.

But come on, Adam is the shit. He’s a great singer, has serious star status and I look forward to his record. Thank God he didn’t win– he would have been stuck with that excuse for a single.

bea | 5/28/2009, 12:19 am EST

@dannan: wow … I’m wondering who the hell are you to say he does not have a rock voice if all the evidence to the contrary ….
if you did not know how to spend your time… instead of posting comments what about a
nap ?

BJ | 5/28/2009, 12:35 am EST

Rikki – well said! Adam, I wish you all the luck in the world! Can’t wait to see you on tour!

kerry | 5/28/2009, 12:44 am EST

I don’t care if Adam is gay or jewish or anything else. I don’t like the way he sings or performs. To much hype, not enough soul. I’m not a Christian, but I think Kris is a good musician and a really good singer. I loved his arrangements, and I hated Adams. That’s all there is to it. Why can’t Adam fans accept that there’s allot of people out there who just don’t like what Adam does. It’s not personal. He lost because more people liked Kris’ musical abilities and singing. that’s it.

Obsidian Eye | 5/28/2009, 1:22 am EST

Say, DANNAN, you wrote, “Stop using the Christian/Gay-Bashing excuses. Not all of America is homophobic, ya’ know. rachel | 5/28/2009, 1:28 am EST

Adam rules!! He became a superstar as soon as he stepped on the idol stage and sang his first note. He is the most famous person on the planet right now and i can’t get enough of him!!

He is pure class!! I want to thank his parents for raising such an awesome perosn and also SoCal for giving him a wonderful place to grow up.

Rolling Stone is DONE! | 5/28/2009, 1:32 am EST

MY BEST QUOTE TODAY..

“Adam is a rock star like the Jonas brothers because you can only be a rock star if you are in a band of less than four people that dress in suits when they perform.

YEAH..RS SUCK REALLY BAD THIS TIME!

“When Adam Lambert’s not making my ears bleed, the only thing he plays is bat the eyelash.”

WELL..THAT IS THE BEST SKILL HE HAS..HAHAHA..

i already listen to Adam’s pre-idol music and it sounds completely RUBBISH,i will throw it in a bin even if i got it for free..AWFULLLLLLLL!!!go check it out..KUDOS to Daughtry and David Cook,at least their pre-idol music million times better than the Glambert..hahaha..

OK,I’M DONE WITH RS TOO..

Linda | 5/28/2009, 2:22 am EST

Adam said: “Maybe pushing peoples buttons for a little bit. Always with a little wink at the audience with a little camp. ” It’s his ability to find humor and lightness in himself that is so, so alluring to me. Is he an incredible vocalist? Absolutely. But if he took himself super seriously, he would have been a less entertaining performer for me. On top of that, it’s clear that he’s a genuinely nice guy. He helped a lot of the other contestants with their song choices and performances. All of them said (in an interview of the top 7) that HE was the one they’d go to if they had a problem and needed someone to talk to.

So you’ve got this incredibly talented guy with a range out of this world, who can sing Freddie and sound fabulous doing it – who doesn’t take himself too seriously, is kind to others and always gives credit to anyone who’s helped him – and he’s a great dancer, has wonderful stage presence, and style. What’s not to like? I’ve never seen anyone that combines all of these elements together so well.

I read with interest your comments above. What is the matter, if one body like Adam more than Kris’ vocal voice, outcome, performance etc? It doesn’t mean, that I am just “angry” about his lost? Those who try to underestimate me, or those, who are more attached to Adam’s music, at least I like to ask those people: Do you know how to do these “cover”-karaoke-music from the original so different, that you can’t recognize it anymore? Why Biran Adam, Kiss, Slash, Green Day, mentioning only few, are so “sold” out with Adam?, because he is not just an American Idol, He is becoming a world’ Idol. We in Europe at least think about when we discuss about Kris and Adam. Kris has is own style, and in ots own style he might become a long lasting artist. Adam touches people who can identify themselves with very different music background. SO Adam is becoming an artist, whose music will be sold around the world.
Thank’s a lot for American Idol, really, they gave Adam the possibility and to us to get known to Adam. Thus, therefore American Idol did 2 things at once:
The show did:
FIND an IDOL FOR AMERICA and FIND AN IDOL FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD!!!

Boniverfan22 | 5/28/2009, 2:42 am EST

Let me get something straight
American Idol is an overglorified fucking karaoke contest, and if Adam had any balls, he would have toured relentlessly and tried to get his own record deal, but instead he went on a prettier version of Star Search and shot to stardom because everything on AI is boring. Fuck that. Get fucking lives.

lulu | 5/28/2009, 3:08 am EST

anything about Adam , really!!
And it spelled Brian:)
But i think Adam is Ok!

Holly | 5/28/2009, 6:07 am EST

I don’t comment on websites almost as a rule, but… thank you, Rolling Stone, for recognizing that this man has so much more going for him than just a lame reality show [that before this season I never even watched]. He’s like Velvet Goldmine come to life. Effing brilliant.

Adam fan in UK | 5/28/2009, 8:29 am EST

I am 54 and being there and done them for rock and roll. Grown up with likes of Stones, Who, Zepp, D Purple, Cream, ELP, Yes, Bowie, Queen, D. Bros, Steel D, Eagles etc..etc and currently I love KoL, Pink and Adam Lambert. What’s wrong with that??? If you think you know Rock and attacking RS being lame because they cover Adam? What’s a narrow minded self-serving rock fan that you are. Look at the music channel now, all those kids run around half naked with technology assisted voice. It doesn’t matter how we found them, gems is gem which Adam is. Are you happy and accept Adam if he was singing on the street and hey being offered a record contract? – It won’t happen as you know. He went out to make an oppotunity for himself. and I hail him for that. He is a very exciting discovery simple as that.

Edge | 5/28/2009, 9:19 am EST

One thing’s for sure that ADAM LAMBERT will be a great artist in his own right. IDOL was just his tool to have a name out there. Now that he has got it then I am sure that he’ll use it in the best way that he could. ADAM LAMBERT will always be ADAM LAMBERT.

donna | 5/28/2009, 9:31 am EST

um…sorry but as a musician, painist from a family full of musicians, composers, conductors, etc…liberace did not have as much talent as adam lambert has in his little finger…he was a curiousity and a barely half-way decent pianist…maybe HE was the adam lambert of his day in that he was ‘different’…please- there hasn’t been a new talent on the horizon like adam in ages- like him or not…and i personally LOVE him…
adam has written music..they cannot perform their own music on idol..so saying he is not a rock singer because of this is ridiculous..
the bottom line is he can sing anything and time will define his style..

Lindajean139 | 5/28/2009, 11:31 am EST

Adam is a pure genius!! No one can even come close!! The pure vocal power, the performance skills. He blew every one away. He is all everyone can talk about. Former idol contestants are drowning in their own jealousy – shall we say Clay Aiken. We are going to see lots more from this guy and I can’t wait!!

Don’t like rock, but love Adam. It doesn’t matter what he sings, we dig his voice and gracious attitude. He has been taking a lot of sh*t from a lot of people. Some comments are just mean and more mean. He himself didn’t say he lost because of sexuality. He acknowledged that he is not everyone’s cup of tea. Love that about him! Thanks RS. Can’t wait for the mag with Adam on the cover.

JkR | 5/28/2009, 12:32 pm EST

Adam Rocks!! Thanks Rolling Stone for the article and hopefully future cover.

Sami | 5/28/2009, 12:44 pm EST

I rarely watch TV anymore. I tuned into the recaps on the AI website to see this singer everyone was talking about.

Adam Lambert is the new “it” guy. He has it all. The androgynous hot guy with the freaking amazing voice.

After seeing his shortened performances I listened to the studio versions. They suck compared to his live versions. Overproduced is the only word I will use.

He is so watchable and needs to do as many raw performances as possible and tape them. I am very drawn to him as a performer and will compare him to Madonna in this regard. Can’t help but want to see him perform and not just listen. I hope the people helping him with his career decisions see that.
He has good instincts and I am really proud of his ability to handle the crap about his sexuality. I don’t care which way he swings, he is going to be the David Bowie of our time.

Jan | 5/28/2009, 12:56 pm EST

I doubt Idol will never see another contestant as good as Adam. I was so done with the show. Definitely wasn’t ever going to vote again. Adam made me want to watch and want to vote again.

Kelly Foxx | 5/28/2009, 1:18 pm EST

Oh my God, some of you are such fucks. How the fuck can you say Freddie Mercury is a rocker but Adam isn’t. They both have similar voicees. Angelic and flawless. They rock! You don’t have to smoke a million cigaretts to get a raspy voice like Steven Tyler in order to be a rockstar. Everybody is differnt. Lambert is a glam rocker, and so much more. He’s the next Bowie, another chameleon.

Anonymous | 5/28/2009, 1:59 pm EST

Jeff, I’m with you all the way. “Kelly Foxx” – Adam Lambert would/could NEVER be Bowie – for starters, as far as we know, he has no original songs to speak of. He says it himself; he’s an entertainer! I wrote it on another thread – Idol and its judges wouldn’t know rock `n roll if it bit them in the ass.

Chipitasgirl | 5/28/2009, 4:38 pm EST

WOW, my one small comment among many. What tickles me the most is when people who prefer someone other than Adam, take the time to be so rude on line. The article was great. Adam was honest and obviously he is creating exactly what he was hoping…..look at all the comments…..he wants us all to think…..Adam Lambert Rocks the World and whether you want to admit it or not, just by sending in a comment, he drew you in. And thats what he does best. Draw us in. Amazing

ravengirl | 5/28/2009, 4:41 pm EST

Adam deserves a cover. Now!

vm | 5/28/2009, 4:42 pm EST

All I can say is there was only one ELVIS and there will be only one ADAM, the word ADAM makes me want to listen to music again and I am 56 years old! Love his voice and his performance – THE BEST!

cocobear | 5/28/2009, 4:51 pm EST

not only do i love adam for his gifted talent, i honestly feel that his graciousness and positive outlook are the more important thing about all of this. it is how we treat others that is more important than anything. the fact that he is wise enough to look at it all with a sense of humor and the fact that he is talking about an outlook on life are the things i am really drawn to and impressed by in someone who could clearly very quickly become someone with too much attitude. it is the ability to control one’s ego in the face of tremendous changes and remain humble that is really the outstanding value and character integrity that entertainers, and everyone, should aspire to.

Kristin | 5/28/2009, 5:06 pm EST

I don’t understand why anyone who’s been on Idol can’t be a rockstar? Like they’ve been tainted and sold out before they’ve even started. I think if this is their big break, good on them for getting the job done. I will not judge them on the basis of where they came from, I will judge them on their talent and entertainment value they present. I believe Adam is an amazing performer, whether you personally like the music he makes or not, you cannot deny he has a talent that not everyone has. Whether it’s jealousy or just plain ignorance, I think people need to lighten up and realize it’s an art. If you don’t like it move on. I hope great things happen for him, he deserves it. I thought this was a great article :)

A COVER FOR ADAM!

Wilna1877 | 5/28/2009, 6:05 pm EST

Thank you RS for doing this interview with the lovely ADAM!

Apart from talent…life becomes what you commit to. ADAM is committed to music. He will be a success.

Kris has committed himself to God, his wife and then his …. his music. It would be tricky for him to put his music first.

Throughout the competition his wife have been sidelined. WHO IS SHE??? So much kept in the background, we still dont know her name. How does she feel about being ignored?

Kris – A newly wedded AI with expectations from THE CHURCH and wife has a lot of balls to juggle.
Which will go first: The wife? the church? the music?

Lynette | 5/28/2009, 9:52 pm EST

I personally think that Adam should keep his private life to himself. It’s not his fans who are questioning his sexuality and putting the pressure on for him to be some kind of poster child. It’s the media and tabloids and gossip mongers. Being discreet is an honorable position to take. I think Mr. lambert should simply ignore the speculation – eventually fickle gossip mongers will tire of this question and move on to focus on asking someone else very inappropriate questions.

Adam's Private Life | 5/28/2009, 10:27 pm EST

Oops – I put a title where I was supposed to put my name. Now I’ll put my name – DailyDoseOfGood -

One more thing – regarding this red state blue state bunk. I am what would be classified a red-stater if someone wanted to stereotype me. Fortunately – this is America where we try and break the mold on stereotypes (or at least that’s what people claim . . . ). I do not sit in judgement of anyone – I would only hope that people make good judgment calls about public behavior and discretion. I do. And this Christian conservative LOVES Adam Lambert (and so does her daughter). He brings us GREAT joy!!!!!!

Oh JESSICA and “Rolling Stone Is DONE”:

SUITS AND NOT PLAYING ANY INSTRUMENT WHILE SINGING MAKE YOU A NON-ROCKSTAR?? You are such IGNORANT POSEURS, you’re ridiculous.

Let me burst your “I’m a rocker bubble” AND GIVE YOU YOUR DAY’S ROCK 101.

First, kids, do you know that the VOICE IS AN INSTRUMENT?

Second, let me provide you a list of people you MAY have heard of:

ROBERT PLANT of Led Zeppelin, JIM MORRISON of The Doors, JANIS JOPLIN, EDDIE VEDDER of Pearl Jam, AXL ROSE of Guns N Roses, MICK JAGGER of Rolling Stones, OZZY OSBORNE of Black Sabbath, CHRIS CORNELL of Soundgarden, ROGER DALTREY of The Who…

ALL vocalists (without playing instruments), ALL REAL MAJOR ROCK STARS.

I guess you POSEURS think that liking Daughtry makes you a rocker? He doesn’t hold a candle to these ROCK GREATS. I don’t even consider his music REAL ROCK. It’s sentimental drivel riddled with simple formulas and hooks. Just plain old melodic singalong pop incorporating the instrumental sounds of rock…masquerading as rock. Listen to the bands listed above and MAYBE you’ll figure out WHAT REAL ROCK IS!!!

AND as for Adam having worn SUITS in performances, I suppose you little nitwits would disrespect THE BEATLES??

Take this sage advice: It’s better to shut up and appear ignorant than to open your mouth and confirm it.

Don’t bother with Rolling Stone ever again. You’re not rockers nor real music lovers anyway. Ta-ta, off you GO!!!

BR | 5/29/2009, 12:22 am EST

Go to Idolatry and watch his interview. See the real deal.

Hey and Kia ora to Adam from New Zealand. Our family planned our Friday & Saturday evenings around ADAM LAMBERT because he has got a vocal range, stage presence and star quality status that draws you in. Idol let the world see Adam and it is only the beginning for him. We can’t wait till we see him as a major star in any genre of entertainment. Adam all the way.

Please, just make this cover article of ADAM, and we’ll, ADAM fans, just do the rest…

No one is asking you to buy his music if you don’t like Adam. Why bother posting your comments here where 99% of the viewers are die hard Adam fans? Do you really think you be able destroy his popularity by doing this? Shame on you!

I think the people here who are thrashing Adam ought to seek professional medical advice for portraying so much “hate”. How can you try to destroy and humiliate a person who you don’t even know? You guys need to shut the fxxx up. Not that anyone is asking you to go buy his music, right? What a ignorant bunch of wasters!

Billie | 5/29/2009, 4:26 am EST

For the idiots who enjoy spending their time hating Adam, here’s a suggestion for you! Grow a tail and kick it between your legs and crawl away!!! That is what is going to happen to you when Adam starts to take the world by storm!

Randy | 5/29/2009, 6:37 am EST

@Anonymous “Adam Lambert would/could NEVER be Bowie – for starters, as far as we know, he has no original songs to speak of.” –

Actually, he has lots of original songs. However, originals are not permitted on AI. Search YouTube for songs by “Citizen Vein,” Adam’s band. He wrote or co-wrote most of the songs you’ll find.

Marilyn | 5/29/2009, 7:04 am EST

There are so may haters in America, if you don’t like Adam Lambert, can we (world) have him? Obviously, Americans (few) don’t have any comprehension of what is talent. It’s so tragic but it doesn’t surprise me, seriously, America always votes for the wrong man for the job, the joke is on you America. By the way, great interview.

COVER, COVER | 5/29/2009, 7:41 am EST

All I can say is Adam played Linus in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” when he was a kid, his start in acting and singing, and I would have loved to have been his blanket! ADAM IS DA BOMB, and anyone who says otherwise is JEALOUS, JEALOUS, JEALOUS. And oh yes, the Allen camp rigged the voting, but no use fighing Idol city hall. If I were an American, I’d launch a lawsuit and demand FOX to disclose everything!

Just how RESPECTED is Adam in the music industry? This new tidbit has just been revealed. When he asked AI to sing “Whole Lotta Love” they told him it would “never” be cleared. In 8 seasons, Led Zeppelin has refused to clear any of its songs. Adam asked AI to try anyway. When they told band members who wanted to sing it they said “Sure”. Turns out their kids are huge Adam fans!!!! Top people in the industry are literally going to be banging down the door at RCA to write songs for Adam and produce his album. I think he can pretty much write his own ticket at this point and take his pick from the best of the best. He is THAT respected, hot and in demand.

LOVE ADAM FEELS RIGHT!

Avery Jones | 5/29/2009, 2:43 pm EST

If the NY Post is right, Adam will soon be on the cover of Rolling Stone, not Kris Allen. Kinda like when Ruben Studdard won, but Clay Aiken got the front covers of major publications. Adam is the the next big thing.

Donna | 5/29/2009, 8:25 pm EST

Adam is one of those individual performers who comes around only a few times in our lifetime. Elvis, Michael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie for example. I think most of us Adam fans know he’ll have more freedom to do his own music by not winning. Kris may have the title, but Adam is the star!! Please RS…do a cover on him soon.

Mary O | 5/29/2009, 9:12 pm EST

I’m a 58 year old grandmother and I totally love Adam! He is talented, handsome and sexy. I enjoyed watching him every moment he was on and voted for him. Yes, I was disappointed when he didn’t win but I understand he will have more freedom in what he chooses to do so I guess it’s good although I certainly feel like he deserved the win. I look forward to whatever cd he puts out as I will definitely be buying it. And, yes, he reminds me very much of a young, sexy Elvis.

Sally | 5/29/2009, 11:04 pm EST

Adam does write a lot of his music. He’s not an overnight sensation. He’s been in the business a while. AI gave him a chance, plus AI does not allow the contestants to sing their own stuff.

Adam is and will be a huge rock star. He has star quality written all over his face.

Trish | 5/30/2009, 12:45 am EST

Adam, a duet with you and Dilana would be awesome!

Jim | 5/30/2009, 1:03 am EST

If this is the future of rock, I’m going country.

Sandy | 5/30/2009, 3:01 am EST

I agree with Rolling Stone that Adam is a ROCK STAR. He is definitely on his way to become one of the best rock stars of all time. (If he release a rock album, that is). But I’m sure he’ll become a worldwide star for sure. His itunes are doing very well overseas already. Personally, I can’t wait to buy his music when it is out. I also heard that Adam is going to be on the next Rolling Stone cover! I’m buying that for sure.

Anonymous | 5/30/2009, 3:20 am EST

To Jim -> GOOD FOR YOU :)
Adam is really a wonderfull peron and singer!
And if Jim even listen to this guy interviews, he is not going to do only rock so don`t worry:)
And one thing, i still wondering why people write about him, or watch he`s videos on tube… If they don`t like ( hate) the guy REALLY then you have to GET A LIFE!

Jasmin | 5/30/2009, 6:47 am EST

to Anonymous | 5/30/2009, 3:20 am EST

Don’t you get it? Adam has become part of our lives now. We wake up in the morning with Adam and go to sleep at night with Adam. Adam is all over, he’s in our blood now. To say to people – “GET A LIFE” means one thing to us: we do have to get a life, only it’s with Adam. Our life now include Adam. Thank god for bringing him to us. If it wasn’t him, we would sure have had to invent him, but for sure, we wouldn’t be able to make it as perfect as the real Adam :) .

In Israel, you can listen to Adam on the radio (around 3 or 4 stations are already broadcasting 3 songs by Adam for over a month now)!

Waiting for the COVER ARTICLE next month.

GO ADAM!!

I watched some videos of adam lambert at you tube and i like the one where he performed at ” WICKED” and kissed the girl at the end of the song. WHOAAAAAAAAA…. i wish i was that girl lol….

Adam lambert is devastatingly gorgeous hunk, he looked so handsome and his piercing eyes, my my my seems to penetrate my soul too….

I love you adam lambert.

japanka | 5/30/2009, 8:07 pm EST

His song at the play Ten Commandments was also great. He has very impressive vocals.

I wish he can release his album soon. I cant wait to hear him record his song. He can sing any genre of music and still comes out clean and faultless The video of him singing with Noa Dori ” The Prayer” was also very good and touching.

Great voice really!

Why can’t ya’ll just let the winner win, if he had been the other way around people wouldn’t have to comment or convince themselves about how the other guy should have won. Jeez, I like Adam and thought he would win, but in a way I’m glad he didn’t coz he is a sore loser just like ya’ll.

RosaMaria | 5/31/2009, 6:15 pm EST

And just to clear myself because I know how defensive ya’ll are gona be about that comment, I voted 4 hours for Mr. Rock Star and got through most of the time. I was a fan, but it ain’t my life.

@Jim | 5/31/2009, 8:13 pm EST

The future of rock? Adam can sing rock and listens to rock but he has said numerously he’s not going to do only rock. He’s more a pop artist than anything so you have nothing to worry about.

David Niel | 5/31/2009, 9:04 pm EST

Adam a sore loser??? Either you can’t really read and had someone read this article to you and then type your response…. or…. you’re just clueless. Adam has been extraordinarily gracious and happy about 2nd place. And, Rosa, when you type “y’all”…. it invalidates your intelligence a little bit. Sorry. Oh, was that the person typing it… if so, sorry to them… :-)

Jory | 5/31/2009, 11:25 pm EST

God i love him with every vein n my body ,, he is the best thing happened to ai ever period .. he is amazing artist but above that he is a great human being .. he brought more joy to my life seriously .. he is amazing . i wish he achieve all his dreams and goals and be successful n the future cuz he deserve to be happy and successful ..

I am a ‘granny for Adam’ fan and I just love him. Also am a bible toting evangelical christian. Adam has fans of all types and ages. He has the most magnificent voice I have heard in my life time. I have American Idol withdrawals because he isn’t on the show anymore. Nothing to look forward to on tuesday nites! Someone needs to give him his own weekly TV show. Wouldn’t that be cool? Have some of the great music guests on and sing with some of them too.

Rolling Stone, thanks for the article and I hope you do many more and give Adam the cover very soon.

annacarole | 6/1/2009, 4:33 pm EST

STOP with the stereotypes! I’m a Bible thumping Conservative.
Gay-shmay! I love Adam Lambert!

kitty | 6/1/2009, 6:59 pm EST

So excited about the Rolling Stone cover. Does anybody know if any other American Idol contestants have made the cover of Rolling Stone?

musik | 6/1/2009, 10:01 pm EST

It really is Adam-mania! He has that something which cannot be defined but it’s a magnetic appeal.I hope RS comes thru with a cover.

I can’t recall anyone like him who has attracted such a range of fans from grannies, to teens on up and then there’s the male fans. (Rocky Horror lovers applaud! I love that movie.)

His vocal abilities take your breath away but he has a sex appeal as well. Now we find out thru interviews he is extremely intelligent, funny and writes music as well.

Is there anything he cannot do? I just hope that we get to see more of him–in concert I mean, wink, wink.

I for one, cannot wait to hear the songs he has written. I would love to see him in concert–uh, not the AI one though. I will wait until he goes solo.

Anyway, everyone needs to buy his current AI songs so that he will climb those charts. Buying an artist songs/CD’s is only the real vote that counts with the record companies.

Rebekah | 6/2/2009, 12:07 am EST

I think Adam’s theory about Gokey fans being more likely to vote fr Kris probably played a part in his Idol loss. However, it really doesn’t matter, and I’m sure Adam is going to do great.

Also, what’s all this red state vs. blue state stuff? I’m a Conservative, Republican, and a Christian, but I am also a proud Adam Lambert fan. I was voting based on pure vocal talent alone!

P.S.- (Because someone asked earlier in the posts) Clay Aiken was on the Rolling Stone cover when his surprise runner-up status helped him outshine AI’s season 2 winner Ruben Studdard.

Old Rock and Roll Broad | 6/2/2009, 1:43 am EST

I’m a 68-year old laday and as I’ve written on other blogs, I haven’t been this excited for a singer since I first heard Elvis sing. Adam has what everyone says you need to be successful. He has that illusive “IT.” And brother does he ever! I think he’ll even be bigger than Elvis. Can’t wait to buy his first CD.

Heather | 6/2/2009, 2:01 pm EST

Thankyou Rolling Stone for seeing Adam as the Rock Star World Idol he is!! I have enjoyed your articles on him and will definiately be buying your next issue.
The idol final, Adam doing Beth and performing with Kiss should go down in TV history as the BEST PERFORMANCE EVER, EVER!!!!
YEP, WORLD IDOL, ROCK GOD!!!!and the world is waiting…I am hoping to see Adam do some music with Queen, that would be the ultimate!!!

Marianne | 6/3/2009, 9:11 am EST

I haven’t read ALL the comments. But I read enough to say this….
I think we should just forget about who got the title and just focus on the Idols careere. I mean, Kris got the title and this is great for him cos he is younger and has less experience than Adam does, and it’s gonna be great for him to have the Idol machine behind him to guide him and launch him. I’m happy for him.
Adam got what he wanted and needed, the biggest platform out there to get seen and heard. He has much more experience than Kris does and didn’t need all the Idol machine to back him up. Both Kris and Adam got what they wanted out of Idol. They are both happy with the outcome. I say we just be happy FOR them and WITH them. I love the fact that they are such great friends and that they are at peace with the outcome. I personally think we should do like Adam said: focus on what’s next.
I have nothing against Kris, he seems like a nice guy, but his style of music is not my cup of tea. I won’t be buying his music. But I still wish him well. Adam on the other hand has everything I love and admire as an artist and will definately buy anything he puts out! LOLL For me, it’s Adam all the way. And he will have a fantastic and marvelous career.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! LOLLL

Adam often talks about growing up ridiculed for being different. At first, I thought he was referring to his looks, but he changed his looks later in his life. Perhaps, he is talking about growing up as a gay young man. If in fact I am correct, I’d like to know what he had to endure and what made him such a confident and positive person. I can’t think of anyone so fearless and full of life as he is now. Yes, he has enormous talent, but his sunny personality really captures my heart. It could be a really inspiring story.

Nicholas Kevin | 6/4/2009, 3:47 am EST

I love Adam.
I haven’t been as excited and crazy like this for someone or something before!
Adam has everything that I really really love.
Not only his music and singing, but alos his attitude, the way he handles all that things, the way he answers those queries, even the way he laugh and walk…

I’m so excited about Rolling Stone’s next issue. Hope they do a great job for Adam’s issue :D

And I’m also so excited and can’t wait for his debut album. It must be MARVELOUS!!!
Hope Adam takes enough time to do it, I believe his debut album will be a fantastic one. Hope it will be #1 in Billboard and produces many many hits!

Glamberts, please keep supporting and loving our boy!

Sorry, RS, if this poser shows up on your cover, you’ve just lost another subscriber. He hasn’t even accomplished anything yet (couldn’t even win that lame-ass show) & suddenly he’s then next Elvis???!!! Any moron claiming that knows absolutely NOTHING about the legacy Elvis Presley left with the music industry & how he changed the playing field forever. Beatles???!!! Excuse me while I laugh my head off!! BWAHAHA!!!! What kind of idiots does this draq queen have for fans? One thing I do know, the ole Clayster was absolutely right about RING OF FIRE – that was the most godawful howling I’ve ever had the misfortune to hear on YouTube. I don’t know ANYONE who likes this guy.

Anyone who would knock Adam Lambert and his amazing gift are either (1) extremely musically challenged (2)a typical narrow minded american idiot or (3)jealous.

Thank you Adam for the courageous step with AI to share your gift with us. Keep the passion m8, hold your friends close. And remember to call your mom and dad often. I thank them too.

Peace

Adam Lambert rocks! I will be buying his album, and I can’t say that about anyone else from Idol. Can’t wait to hear you again, and your fine to look at too!

Janet | 6/5/2009, 8:30 pm EST

@madamimadam:
Don’t worry, RS will never miss you, as I just ordered a subscription, because of Adam! They will never know you left! And with your shallow, judgemental way of thinking says alot about your character and the friends you keep. People that think alike tend to flock together which explains your claim that everyone you know thinks as you do.

Adam Lambert is like Elvis in that he is controversial yet enticing and catching fans like wildfire. He could very well be taking the music world for a very fine ride. He could very well reach super stardom and become a legend. And I for one, believe he will accomplish just that! Go Adam!♥

Earthbound | 6/5/2009, 10:37 pm EST

…”as I just ordered a subscription, because of Adam!…”.

Does that mean Adam will be on the next cover magazine?

I’m from Israel and I want to order 6 copies (for me and friends), but I just don’t know yet if this rumor about Adam on the next cover is true, so in a meanwhile, I’m waiting to know for sure…

i think that who caares if hee is gay? he was the ONLY performer on idol who was consistantly A.M.A.Z.I.N.G every week. i think that there are 3 reasons the he didn’t win and these reasons shouldn’t be, 1- he is different (and possibly gay WHO CARES?) 2- the judges favoratized him (with good reason) and 3- he changed alot of his songs (which i don’t think really matters it shows that he can be an artist) ADAM IS AMAZING and will do SO MUCH BETTER THAN KRIS!

Sabrine | 6/7/2009, 10:37 pm EST

I had given up on american Idol until some of my coworkers started rambling on after thy watched Adam sing Ring of Fire. The following week I tuned in to see what all the fuss was about??? Adam Lambert mesmerized me to the point where I became a total Adam freak, I even subscribed to Rolling Stones when I found out he was boing to grace the cover of RS, I don’t want to miss anything about this new Rock star or shall I say “Rock King” soon to be, at least in my eyes. Like I read elsewhere, AI will never be the same they might as well end the show, I’ve read milions of blogs peple young and old were hypnotized by the talent and charizma of this new Rocl / Pop king.Way to go Adam, you have my support no matter what.

Jean | 6/8/2009, 2:35 am EST

It’s soooo fun to know that the one (Lambert of course) you find an extraordinary talent, that the one you believe is a hell of a singer, performer and entertainer, that the one you find yourself listening to his singing and watching his videos over and over again like crazy…. is also a beautiful person, nice, kind, humble, sensitive, smart, clever, intelligent, sexy, open minded, enlightened [please stop me :) ] young man. Adam is justifying our love for him and makes it even stronger and deeper. This combination of outstanding and rare talent along with amazing beautiful nature make Adam the best entertainer the world has to offer.
RS, we love you for loving our Adam!!

L.I.L.A. | 6/9/2009, 8:29 am EST

I second you, Sabrine.
i NEVER watched AI till i keep hearing my brother & friends waxing lyrical about some bloke which they said i must check out.
i have NOT seen someone so hypnotic with such amazing stage presence on the telly in a long time.
the glambert is going to get me to buy CDs all over again… can’t wait for his upcoming projects.

mommermaid | 6/9/2009, 11:34 am EST

I don’t care what his sexuality is!!! I can’t get that song “Mad World” out of my head! I love watching his videos from AI and seeing his growth from start to finish. Give me more! Give me more!

To thine own self be true… Adam, you are exceedingly talented, you are brave and you are loved! With regard to JEff, I am thinking in time this guy is more than capable of doing his own music, and blowing all of us away with his talent in the process!

Adam ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! I loved ring of fire!!!!!!!!!

Carol | 6/9/2009, 5:26 pm EST

Cover of Rolling Stone, how cool is that! “Just as cool as Adam Lambert.”

Lisa | 6/9/2009, 8:12 pm EST

I’ve spent more time listening to Adam’s pre-Idol work than the wonderful songs he covered on Idol. He has such mad talent, how has he not had an album out before? Adam’s going to go no where but up from here. Love, love, love him!

djg | 6/9/2009, 8:44 pm EST

I find myself holding my breath when Adam sings, fearful of missing the slightest nuance in his voice. I wish him success, happiness and longevity.

50 yr old lady | 6/9/2009, 9:13 pm EST

Adam,
You oooze sex! Gay or straight you are human sexuality. When I was 18 I fell for a guy that ended up being gay. (still one of my best friends). And today at 50 I have fallen for you…or at least your music. Knock ‘em dead! But please learn from others before you what dangers are waiting for you if you live too wild of a life style. Ahhh come on! I’m old enough to be your mother so let me nag :-)
Love you Adam!

Rock 'n' Roll rebellion | 6/9/2009, 11:55 pm EST

Elvis was despised by the keepers of the status quo when he first came out singing covers of “colored” music and was even banned at the Grand Ol’ Opry; The Beatles were a scourge on America, demoralizing our youth; Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix were “of the Devil”; and those “queers” of glam rock T-Rex, David Bowie, Queen, to name a few, were deemed unlistenable with their power chords and untenable screaming; hell, even Lynyrd Skynyrd was despised by the Bible thumpers in the Bible Belt back in the day. Their rejection by the mainstream only created lasting legacies and legions of followers, “Sweet Home Alabama”! Today, all of those formerly rejected-by-the-mainstream weirdos are icons of our mainstream culture, used to sell cars, perfume, hotel rooms, and can all now be heard on numerous radio stations Coast to Coast any minute of any given day. Today’s rejects and “weirdos” are tomorrow’s icons. Adam Lambert is off to a good start in joining that tradition with his rejection by the mainstream as the “American Idol.” Long live Lambert’s legacy!

I watched some of the video of Adam’s interview with Rolling Stone and I love it when he is doing his hair. I wear my hair similar to his and I learned how to style mine by watching him. I love everything about Adam and I will be so excited when his album hits the stores. Adam Lambert rocks and will for many many yrs to come. Can’t wait to see him in concert and maybe get his autograph. Much love to u Adam!

Adam's Uncoditional | 6/10/2009, 2:34 pm EST

With looks like that, who needs to sing… And then, he opens his mouth and starts singing, and that, oh dear, just blows my panties out of this world into a galaxy never heard of.

With his talent and looks, he will have it all one day… This girl envies the guy he is with.

Best of luck!

Adam Lambert has my hormones going crazy. Can’t wait to see and hear more of him. I will purchase the Rolling Stone Magazine just to have his sexy cover. I dream maybe he’ll cross over to women again someday. If not, that’s ok. I’m a devoted Glambert regardless.

jamesen | 6/11/2009, 5:39 pm EST

Jeff
Adam fronted a band called Citizen Vein and co-wrote several songs. Rock songs…really good ones. Idol might not be the coolest path to take in the music industry, but now that he’s at the party who cares how he got here. The kid has crazy talent and business savvy. A killer combo! Brian May think’s he great..Rolling Stone thinks he’s cool..I think he’s hot…so maybe you should re-think your prejudice.

Allison | 6/11/2009, 11:56 pm EST

Gay or straight, ADAM IS GREAT! LOVE YOU ALWAYS ADAM LAMBERT! NO MATTER WHAT!!

David | 6/12/2009, 5:31 pm EST

I look forward to Adam maturing and becoming a great artist, well to put it in context, greater than he is now. Adam’s ‘Ring of Fire’ version was as good as Cash’s version of ‘Hurt’. I think the outcome of Idol was probably more of a commentary on American society, it was ready for a Black president but not a gay Idol. Best of luck Adam and keep your head. This straight guy is a fan.

Renee | 6/13/2009, 4:46 am EST

I think adam has a gift like no other. God has blessd you Adam Lambert…………………
For you I pray you pick the road that leads to god and peace.
You bless others with your song and the person that you are.

WHEEEEE | 6/13/2009, 9:46 am EST

Adam does it all perfectly. His rock starriness is ideal and he will be remembered forever.

peggy | 6/14/2009, 11:32 am EST

Kris may have got the title, but no way could any of them outdo Adam on Idol…How many waited for the others to come on each week and see what they were going to do…and I am so thrilled that Allison got signed to a record deal..I loved her also…Adam and Allison’s duet was wonderful and you could tell they fed musically off of each other..Hope both of you the best///

kaydee | 6/14/2009, 11:37 am EST

I cannot wait to see Adam in Kansas City, 9 of us ladies are going to go and it is because of his talent…Hope he is good to both sides of his fans, women are the ones who buys his records.. Let all go and just consontrate on his singing….I beleive God gave Adam the most amazing talent…
Love his hair and the way he sings and performs.

Carol | 6/17/2009, 6:43 pm EST

I was trying to get on the Kris Allen link you had but it just keeps going to the Adam Lambert story. Adam was okay – I did like one of his songs. I don’t really get all this about him, but “to each his own”. He seems like a nice guy and I wish him success. I am thrilled Kris won. I think he is really talented and has a great voice. I think he deserves more attention than he’s getting, but he just isn’t as flashy (duh) as Adam, but that is what I like about him!

Glambert forever and always | 6/28/2009, 5:39 pm EST

Jeff
I would like to know who you think you are judging someone like Adam, or any of the ‘Idol’ contestants for that matter. I don’t see you making it to second place on American Idol. Or maybe you’re just one of those sad, pathetic people who auditioned for Idol and didn’t even make it to Hollywood week. Adam IS a rock star with an unbelievable amount of talent. Adam DID write songs pre-Idol, he was in a rock band, he did recording work before Idol, and he was in several different musicals. And now he’s one of the most talked-about, famous people in our society today. I don’t see you on the cover of Rolling Stone, do I? No, I don’t. You’re just a stupid ignorant, arogant person and nothing more.
